i took her psychology class online hoping to save some time from going to class. I spent a majority of my time on the computer doing stupid little assignments that did absolutely nothing to help me learn the material. i got an A but i hated the class
It might help if the tests corresponded to the book. There was no way possible to get a good grade in this class when she was teaching from a different book all together.
The absolute worst teacher I've ever had. Teaching methods sucked. Totally psychotic!!!
At first I thought that this was the hardest class I ever took. Now that I'm at KU I realize that she teaches to prepare students for *real* college not JUCO! Now I really appreciate what I learned. Don't take her if you don't want to work and learn
Ms. Klinger is a good teacher, she's just an abstract one. All the tests corresponded perfectly with the book, you just have to study. If you plan to go to a 4 yr take a good instructor not an easy one.
I had this online and don't feel I learned much due to the numerous assignments each week. It was a struggle to get everything completed. I would have preferred to spend more time on each subject, but we really seemed to race through. I'm not sure if this is her fault, or the state curriculum.
There is a lot of work in this class, but I am learning a lot. I wish the other students weren't always complaining about this and that. They must not have had to work hard in high school.
Toby is a good psychology teatcher. A lot of people complained about the way teaches, but I liked her class. Just use your comprehension skills and you will do fine. She has a good personality and loves what she teaches.
shes from New Jersey, so her voice is just plain annoying...also, she is very monotone. Her papers are hard and her tests are easy, so proceed with caution.
Be prepare to take this course with her ... it's pretty hard to understand the concepts of physcology in this course ... however, she is very HELPFUL though!!!
she is HORRIBLE
I don't like this service because I think it is very juvenile, but I had to respond. One of the little girls in my online class sent a note out to all of us to come here and complain about because she got a bad grade. I think this is a hard class, but it makes me think. So to my online classmates, grow up and don't complain until you do the work.
she ia a good teacher. loves to interact with the class which is helpful. dont take her if you like to go from chapter to chapter. she jumps all over the book but every thing she teaches corresponds with the next. tests are pretty hard and there are not alot of points. it is a very interesting class. its not as bad as it sounds, i promise!!
She builds concepts, and does not just go chapter to chapter. This will be a little hard to get used to, but once you do the class is great. Its challenging, so unless you are a psyc major you may as well take someone easier, but I don't regret the work I put in at all. Tests are easy, just the concepts can be difficult to understand.
Toby Klinger is a very incosiderate teacher. Do not take her if you plan on having a life outside class. She is very hard to please and if you think you are doing well wait until right before finals and then she will tell you that your flunking. DO NOT TAKE HER!!!!!!
I hated this class, Ms. Klinger was a horrible teacher, she wasn't clear when projects were due, we had assignments online where the links wouldn't work or you couldn't find it but she didn't care. she thinks people don't like her class because she jumps around in the book but people don't like her class because she is very unclear and unflexible.
Made me think.
I agree with previous posts. She is very unclear. I'm taking the online course. There is way too much work for a 3 credit class. I have to check online almost everyday to make sure I'm current on the assignments. Quizes & tests are very poorly worded. Very frustrating! If you must take this class from Klinger - don't say you weren't warned.
Toby is a wonderful online teacher. She is very helpful and challenging. She made me love online learning. As long as you keep in contact with her and communicate any issues you have, she's really good about working with you.
I liked Toby, she made you think and she made the subject very interesting and fun. She has a great personality, a little weird, but I definately recommend her.
I took her online class. It was really easy. There is a ton of busy work, so if you are taking this class to do less work or b/c you don't have much time, rethink it. There is something due almost everyday! But, although the assignments are time consuming, they are pretty easy. She is fair and pretty helpful. Lots of work in this one!
I have no problem taking a course that is challenging, but this course is challenging in the sense that no one has any idea what is going on at any given time. If you want to learn something or want an "easy A" look elsewhere. Especially if psych is not your field of interest. First class I've ever had to drop.
Hard class. Like AP classes.
this teacher is unprofessional, unorganized, and prideful..seriously, I would never take another class with her..ever!
This is the worst teacher I have ever had. She is very unorganized and unclear. She also doesn't fully know her subject, because if you ask her a question she will dance around it if she doesn't know the answer. There is a ridiculous amount of busy work. The only good thing about this class is it is optional to show up...thank goodness!
Hard. I hated the whiners. tell them to not take another online class
I do not reccomend this on-line course to anyone. I really used to enjoy psychology but I cringe at the thought of it now. The tests and quizzes are very hard, you have to look in not only the book but her weblectures, psych sim etc. just to find an answer. It is never clear what she is looking for. I did not enjoy this class.
the online class was horrible. i read every chapter but still did horrible on the tests. you have to dig for hours in the text book until you find a answer that is only the slightest bit similar to the answers to the question. i would not recomend this teacher at all. was not helpful, and the tests were unbelievably hard.
This class was NOT hard. It was alot of abstract and conceptual teaching and learning which alot of students obviously cant handle. Very good teacher and intellingent lady. Most people complaining are just out of high school and blame the teacher for their failure It is a college course most are lazy and pampered-have to work now, it is college!!!
teacher and class was very unorganized. Reading were way out there. No book was used. Would not recommend this class unless circulum was changed.
This is a hard class in the sense that you have to learn the material but everything is heavily curved so yes you may not get 100% on anything but it is curved so it makes it much easier. She is a very nice lady as well. I would take it again (online)
She really made me think. She was very responsive and gave lots of feedback to class discussions.
Tough course-learned a LOT!
This prof is trouble on a stick. I am working on my 2d doctorate; used to teach law school (this is not whining about hard work)! Her online course is disorganized, she is disrespectful to students, obnoxious and can't figure out that her online students are lost because she hasn't thought thru the online teaching process. Don't take her class.
She is very disorganized. this summer crammed 2 tests, multiple quizzes and a final into 2 1/2 weeks. lost track of time. asked for help, but blew me off. lots of extra credit, i earned an A, but would not take her again.
This teacher was horrible! Was rude to me. Would not assist me when I tried to get help. She called me a liar because she did not agree with what I was trying to tell her. I was not impressed with this teacher and how her class works. I would recommend against it if you can. I think she needs to reorganize her class.
i took psyc(online) from her this summer08' and i just love her.i am surprised reading some reviews by students who think she is rude. my exprience with her was awesome.she replies to my email super fast. She is very very helpful. she is my favorite instructor so far. i am even enroll to take Psyc-218(online)from her in spring09. Highly Recommended
unreasonable, very poor on-line class, avoid her!
This is the second class I am taking with her and I think she puts together an excellent online experience. That is, if you are willing to work. I just don't understand those who are so negative. Do you expect just to get a grade without making an effort to understand the material? This is college.
This teacher stinks!!!!
AWESOME INSTRUCTOR !!! LOVE HER APPROACH. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !!!
I took psych 218 online from her. The class was easy, had discussions each week, two exams (open book and untimed!) and a take home final. Can't get any better! She used the textbook a lot for exams and there is some busy work but overall Klinger was great.
I took this class online, the layout was very unclear, convoluted and confusing. This teacher takes her self way too seriously and assumes you have nothing better to do than read her nonsensical syllabus. I would NOT recommend her for online course work, I can't speak for her classroom abilities. Will not answer questions!
I took this class online during summer of 2010. The tests were timed and the final was four assay questions. There are at least three postings plus additional responses each week. She is very critical with feedbacks. If you have a lot of time to seat in front of a computer to read long studies plus "thick skin" this class is perfect for you.
I took the online version of this class, and she is terrible. I learned more in my high school psych class. The tests and quizzes are on material that we have NOT discussed. But the grades are so curved I should have gotten a C in the class, but I got an A. That's really the only good thing about this professor.
Can be helpful; can come off rude in an online world. INSANE busiwork that doesn't pertain to tests. Hoped to save time w/ this easy subject in a 16 cr. sem. & instead spent more time w/ her class than all others. I'm not 20, A student, no prob. doing work; but this was stressful. Don't take if you're in other classes & can't sit at comps all day.
She's completely rude and condescending when you ask questions. she gives a lot of work that is frivolous, confusing, and has almost nothing to do with the material. I left this class not wanting to be a psych major anymore.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS! If you are enrolled in the class but it has not started, do yourself a favor and drop it! Take something else and take this class next semester with a dif professor! Her online course is SO disorganized that you will be more stressed about finding ALL the informantion than you will be about the tests - which are ON campus!
I took her online also, and haven't had any problems yet. I really like the class and do not think she is rude, even when I had to take a week off and turn in lots of late work. Yes you have to write a lot but the material is fun and interesting so it is easy. She was helpful in the beginning when I was confused, but smooth sailing after.
Took Women's Global Studies for Non-Western culture credit only because it fit my schedule- ended up learning ALOT! Class was very nontraditional. She can be a little disorganized but its not rocket science to figure out what she wants. Eye-opening literature, great discussions! Do the readings, write thoughtfully about them.
I took the online course. So much reading! There are we lectures that supplement the text. Although helpful, these web lectures contain A LOT of "Try It Outs" that can be quite time-consuming, although they are interesting. Toby (woman, not man) is VERY helpful if you ask, and responds quickly. If you're confused navigating her online course, ASK!
Took her online human development class. Don't bother taking this instructor is an understatement. Clarity of material & expectations is not there. She is condesending & rude. Straight A student, so I'm aware of what it takes to do well, not whining, but don't think she has the first clue about teaching - especially online.
Mrs.Klinger is a teacher who truly cares always replys to messages and give her input but she also wants you to use your brain to its fullest. For me her teaching method was way to much information for intro. Her quizzes and exams are extremlly difficult, but she does use a curve Thank God! This class has tons of reading!
Do not take Human Development with this instructor! The online format is confusing. The only saving grace is that she grades on a curve. Way too much material thrown at you. Papers and assignments don't have clear guidelines. Really snarky when a question is asked. Alot of "let's start a discussion". Terrible! Avoid this online class!!!
This class has a ton of reading and writing responses. Mrs. Klinger grades on a curve and is very generous. She also gives lots of extra credit opportunity. The most important thing is make a good attempt to do the work and she will make sure that you will get a very good grade.
This class has a lot of busy work, is not clear, hard to follow, disorganized, and her expectations are hard to understand. I took it online and highly suggest NOT doing that. She is not a very good or helpful teacher. Her tests are HARD even though they are open book. Take this IN class with a different teacher. I could not tell you what I learned
I took Human Development online. And wow! Toby's instructions are impossible to follow. When you ask her a question she replies with rude comments and makes you feel dumb. Lot's of busy work. Her comments on your work are not constructive, more like she thinks what you say is dumb. I would not reccomend her. Different teacher, for sure.
A lot of ways to gain points int his class. Tests are very difficult. 2.5 hours for 100 questions and still run out of time. even though its open book. You have to post when expected to. Extra points are available as long as you work and not try to skate through this class. Very helpful. Directions for essays are confusing but willing to explain.
Hands down WORST class and I received an A. I didn't even enroll in PSYC 218 because I thought I was going to fail. Everything said about this professor is true. I failed every exam and only passed because of the extra credit quiz she gave and the curve. Absolutely nothing is clear and she is not helpful. Very hard class.
Piles work loads on & then you can not uderstand her or what she wanted. (Literaly)She is the worst professor I have ever had. This is an online course. Unreal! You can't even understand her when you have a meeting with her. WORST EVER !
While the course is easy once you figure out how it is structured, it is confusing. Toby is helpful and doesn't mind if you ask questions. She also responds quickly to emails and is open minded to other opinions. Her tests are difficult and focused on specific details rather than broad ideas, however the exam is open book.
Mrs. Klinger is a great teacher. Although there is a lot of work, the amount of time you partake in this class will be beneficial to your grade. Turn in work on time, contribute to discussions, and don't be afraid to ask questions. She is busy. yet is still able to reply to emails in a timely manner. I would recommend taking her class.
All we ever did was answer two or three questions a week that were vaguely related to our book. Also, the tests have such a huge curve that you can bomb the test but still pass the class. I feel like I'm in a remedial course or something. This is not a good way to learn.
Terrible. Just terrible. Took this class online and retained ZERO information. The way she grades, her clarity on directions, and her organization SUCKS. I do not suggest this class for someone who cares about the subject. Her quizzes are easy, tests are hard. She gives a HUGE curve.
Class was a breeze if you do the weekly assignments you can bomb tests. She knows your cheating on tests and makes them extremely hard, Book is almost not needed. Questions on tests are obscure and hard to find answers for even in book. She has her own lessons and they almost never match up with the book, double the reading.
I really love this professor. At first the class is very intimidating but she curves EVERYTHING! I didn't read the book much but kept up with her lectures. As long as you do the work and try, you will pass this class. She is a very smart women and knows what she is talking about but a very fair grader
Took the class online and there were 25 students at the beginning, 13 dropped out half way through. The two unit exams are very, very difficult even though it was online open book. Lots of reading required and lots of discussion posts (which are bulk of grade , thank goodness,) Take home written essay final and also a term paper required.
I took her for an online class called Global Women's Studies. I love this class, it's super easy, but it does require a lot of reading and you have to meet deadlines on the assignments, but otherwise, it's a great class. I probably have about a 130%+ based on all the extra points she gives me; dunno why I get them, though. There is no textbook!
LOVE Toby. Spastic, gets excited & can be hard to follow sometimes. READ READ READ (but you don't have to read everything). Mostly discussion-based, 2 indiv. papers that were easy enough, 2 grp papers were annoying, but if you line out what to do, cite lots of sources, & do bibliography you'll be fine. LOTS of extra credit. Participate.
This class was terrible. Her assignments are confusing and all in different places making navigating the class confusing and overwhelming. When asking for help she gives vague answers and expects you to figure it out for yourself, same with her feedback on discussion posts. Quizzes and tests are frequent and very long. Grammar was poor in lectures.
Super hard, online psych. She must think it is a 8 credit course. Way too much work, no time for exams (runs out everytime)- very unorganized, syllabus is all over the place and not seeing her willingness to help. Definitely do NOT recommend.
I took this class online and it took me a week to figure out how she organized it and where all the information for the assignments were. You have to read every single thing about the syllabus and info she gives you to even figure out how it works . Very disorganized, hard grader, a LOT of work, and intensely difficult quizzes.
Hands down worst class I have taken- very un-organized and completely off the grid on her quizzes and exams for a intro psych course. Highly do not recommend.
I took her online Humanities course. There were major typos, incorrect due dates, and the instructions were copied and pasted (often without changes). It was a lot of work trying to keep up with her. When she did give feedback, the messages were late, and confused. This was a bad idea.
Before taking this class I was so excited about it being that I love psychology. I would take this course with anyone else. Klinger has assigned so much work and has yet to grade anything or give feedback and here we are halfway through the semester. I can honestly say I haven't learned anything. There's a bunch of reading articles.
Loved the class! She wants her students to reflect and apply the concepts.
Poor communication and a total lack of organization. I have had no difficulty navigating any of my other online classes but this one is a total mess.
The class I took was online. The instructions were unclear, and assignments were graded harshly. A 3 credit hour class shouldn't take 15 hours per week due to the teachers inability to "teach".
Strict grading, unforgiving, difficult to follow, and all around very discouraging. You'll recieve a grade workout any explanation. What's the point of taking a class if your professor isn't going to help you understand what you're missing? The only thing you'll learn from this class is how to use D2L like a pro because everything is so scattered.
She does not require a book for the class which sounded good at first. Instead she has all of these random articles that you have to read (some are really difficult), over the course they all seem to be based around the same thing. LOTS of reading and writing. And two group papers!? She's a scatter brain and is hard to follow sometimes.
Everyone should take this class. I have learned so much in a short time and I have truly enjoyed myself. Professor Klinger is an excellent teacher. She grades fairly and allows for self expression and growth.
Toby is very intelligent, sweet, and generous. She is willing to help and answer questions. She gives out a lot of extra credit points. If you actually try to analyze the material, you'll do well in the class and learn a lot. She finds a lot of thought provoking material that intertwines in a very interesting way.
This class wasn't so much hard as it was disorganized. I took her course online and nobody knew how the class worked for the first two months. It's an easy A if you can decipher the syllabus. I didn't open my textbook one time and a lot of the discussion posts require you to get really personal about your life. I was not overly impressed.
This class is sooo disorganized. The teacher has hyperlink after hyperlink after suggested reading after video after assigned reading. Jeez. It's a good thing it was a psychology class because I started feeling crazy. Who could follow this scatterbrained layout? The syllabus is a book in itself, with too much unnecessary information everywhere.
This class was difficult. You don't need to get the textbook, because she basically gives it to you, but it is hard to navigate. Her assignments are graded weirdly and she is tough about it. She does give audio feedback though. If I were to take this class again, I would most likely pick her.
This class was really hard for me. The quizzes were fairly easy. You pretty much could copy and past the questions into quizlet and get the answers. The only thing that saved me for this class was the fact that she had a curve for the grading. For example, the tests were worth 100 points. However, she automatically gave you 25 extra credit points.
Textbook reading, power point reading, articles, hyperlinks and any other way that words can be written - you will probably need to read it for this class. If reading isn't your best way to learn or you don't have time to read- avoid this class. I don't know if the on campus version of this class is better- but the summer online course is difficult
College Algebra was easier than this class. I was so confused. So, unorganized it took me over a week to figure out everything. Online you have to read lectures that (I.e. Unit 1 Module 1-4 Module 1 has about eight lectures you have with tryouts) test 90-100 questions two hours. You have to read the book on top of it. Should be short quizzes.
She gives way too much information/extra details. But the class should be an easy A as long as she gives extra credit whenever she feels like "you went above". The way she presents material is confusing/unorganized. There are 4 units with 3-4 modules each. You do 2 "Try it out" posts and a peer review for each module. 3 long exams and 1 paper.
Toby is greAt. Not for everyone however. She teaches in a scattered way but she is very clear on what you need to do and how to do it. Very understanding. I would definitely take a class of hers again.
Lots and lots of discussion. There are very sensitive topics discussed (WGS 201) so it is important to enter the classroom with an open state of mind. She enjoys playing the Devil's Advocate for sake of discussion, so do not mistake it for anything else. A really great person to talk with a lot of knowledge to share
I took the hybrid course. So 8 weeks face to face. 8 wks online. Face to face was easy to get discussion points. I just showed up, acted like i talked in the groups and turned in my hw. Online is a TON of reading. She's kind of a scatter brain so its really difficult to follow the lectures online and in person. Easy A as long as you turn in work.
Extremely scatterbrained, unorganized, quiz/exam heavy, posts on readings due every week or so. QUIZZES - not difficult/NOT timed. EXAMS - not easy/TIMED. You will read every page of textbook but chapters are assigned in what feels to be extremely random. I DO NOT recommend this professor. I'd move down the line to the next available professor.
WORST TEACHER EVER. its like she doesnt understand how to set up an online class. you will be teaching yourself everything and doing tons of hours of reading and homework. tests are very hard and short time limited as well. avoid at all costs! i had all a's with 2 b's before this class and i failed it. shes the worst. her class is the worst. F-
Easily the most unorganized online course I've taken. Lists plenty of questions for discussion, but only allows you to answer the "highlighted questions". Not to mention every assignment description is littered with typos. Prof gets angry when students answer the same questions but has the discussion board closed until you make your own posting.
There is a lot of reading in this course, and at the end of the semester there are two big papers to complete. Overall, the professor is pretty lenient with grading and as long as you put some effort into your work you will get a good grade.
RUN! (But really. She tells you to buy the most updated textbook, then uses her copy from 2015 that doesn't correlate at all. Half the links she sends are broken and when I emailed her about this she told me to fix them if I wanted an A. What?? The assignments are unclear and goodness are there assignments! EVERY DAY!)
I took the online version of her 130 class. I think the lectures were all just copy-pastes from somewhere and they were riddled with typos. There are online discussion forums, she'll downgrade you if you repeat a question but only lets you see what others have written after you post something. Not sure how that works.. Other than that, QuizletA
absolutely awful teacher. she was rude, inconsiderate and disrespectful. you miss one class you fail. end of story. will never take one of her classes again
I took this class online and it was not difficult just a lot of reading (duh). She is a fair, easy grader. As long as you do your work, actually do it there is no reason you shouldn't get an A. There are 2 papers, one you get 2 months to complete and the final. Several discussion posts and you get 2 attempts for the tests which make them easy A's.
Toby has a 10 page syllabus that is redundant and encompasses all semesters in one. During the summer she has discussions that are due twice a week with 1 quiz each week, unless there is a test. Grades discussions after unit tests. Her powerpoints are severely outdated and don't flow with the reading in the textbook or her lectures.
This woman is the worst professor I have ever had. In class she just sporadically talks the entire time and gives participation points. Her online lectures are useless and outdated and do not align with what she tests you on. The quizzes have no time limit but the exams are 100q in 2hrs. DO NOT CHOOSE THIS PROFESSOR! She should not be a teacher!
ATTENTION!!! DO NOT TAKE AS AND INTRO TO PSYCH!!!!! This is not an introductory class she will assume you know what she is talking about! the transition from in-person to online was extremely difficult with little to no guidance. When emailed her responses were rude and not helpful at all. EXPECT TO TEACH YOURSELF!!!!!!
Class was an easy A but do not be fooled. This class was a requirement for my major and I thought I would love it. Toby's lectures were so confusing and her links barely worked half the time. Doing the "try it outs" every week was like pulling teeth because there was not much direction. Be prepared to learn nothing in this class.
Professor Klinger gives great feedback. Every week was pretty much the same and it was easy but a lot of reading. Though its a lot of reading you get a group of reading and you can choose the 1-2 you want to read which is nice. Its really hard to get behind because there are so many opportunities for extra credit.
Klinger's nice, but Global Womens Studies (online) is the hardest class I've EVER taken. Disliked how the course was organized. Requires SO MUCH reading, especially those journals that repeat the same thing 600x & use vocab that no one actually uses. The majority of the assignments are discussion posts. Heavy HW due like 3 times a week. No tests.
She grades assignments randomly- based on however shes feeling in the moment- no rubric. She makes everything more complicated- constant typos and links that send you to the wrong site. No textbook- so you have to read a combination of a million confusing articles every week. I winged it. Worst class in the universe- and Im a feminist.
Absolute worst. I emailed multiple times for help and never once got a reply. You will have a hmwk assignment that is discussion based every weeknight. So many typos, directions are unclear, and many of the links to complete hmwk no longer work. Comments on graded work suggested I add things that weren't even outlined in the questions. Good luck.
Took the WGS class: - Her grading criteria is awful and doesn't make sense - Instructions for discussions/papers don't make sense - The way the online course is set up is confusing and hard to navigate - Lots of typos - Links for some things don't work/go to the wrong place - Gives feedback that isn't relevant to the assignment Wouldn't take again.
I didn't learn a thing because all of the 500 articles you had to read were outdated or used language that was hard to understand. She sometimes gives out multiple reading assignments (articles that are 10+ pages) per discussion, and her feedback is useless. The canvas page is hard to navigate and has a lot of typos. 1 group project.
Please do yourself a huge favor and pick a different professor for this course! prof lacks the ability to give clear instructions at any point in time you will read about 100 pages of peer reviewed journals per week, and it will seem pointless to do so at times
