Fairly new at teaching Zoology, although he carries a Phd in his profession and very passionate on what he teaches. His course is very demanding of time,he doesn't know how to structure the course so anything can be thrown at you and you have to handle it.One cool thing is that you go on 3 trips during the semester,he's also young hip and very cute.
I took an ELI class and it was extremely difficult. The study guides were not even compariable to what was on the exams. The labs were very involved and confusing. He went over each assignment with a fine tooth comb and mark you down for every little thing. By far the toughest class I have ever take at NOVA in the past 5 years.
This class is Awesome. If you are interested in wildlife or nature, you must take this class. Dr. Tupper is the real deal.
This class was great. Sure it took some work to get through, but it was def. worth it. I had a good time in zoology, and did fairly well. If you are interested in conservation, animals or science in general, take this class.
BRACE YOURSELF WITH THIS PROFESSOR TENDS TO GET CARRIED AWAY WITH COURSE MATERIAL.ASSIGNS TOO MUCH AND GRADES HARSHLY.MISLEADS YOU ON YOUR FINAL GRADE!!!ONLY TAKE HIM IF YOUR INTERESTED IN ZOOLOGY BUT IF IT IS A COURSE REQUIREMENT STEER CLEAR YOUR HEADING FOR A BULLDOZER!!!ALSO DONT WASTE MONEY BUYING THE TEXT HE WILL ONLY TEACH OFF THE FIELD GUIDE
HE IS NOT A GOOD TEACHER. HE IS VERY ARGUMENTATIVE ABOUT THE MATERIAL. HE DOESN?T FOLLOW THE TEXT AT ALL! HE GRADES PEOPLE MORE ON THEIR INTEREST IN HIM PERSONALLY. HE IS BORING AND TALKS VERY MONOTONE. HE SEEMS TO BE VERY YOUNG AND UNPROFESSIONAL. BEING OLDER I FELT HE TALKED TO ME AS A CHILD. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND HIM TO ANNOY UNLESS YOU WANT A
Be prepared to eat, sleep and breathe zoology. There is a lot of work in this class so I don't recommend taking it if you already have a full load. He is a caring teacher, but kind of disorganized; the book he teaches from is bad so look for alternatives. You can do well if you have a lot of time to study. He's super hott.
Cool guy
He's a good guy, and really wants you to learn. Take this course if you are interested in animal bio.
Good dude. The zoology course was great. Buy the book, pay attention to the review notes.
In lab: Two field trips. Lots of assignments via blackboard. there are two exams in lab: be able to recognize sounds (crickets, toads, birds...), phylum, order, class, species. Lecture: he doesn't post his notes in blackboard, you have to take notes and you have to write very very fast!! Take his class if you are not taking any chemistry, biology,
Not a class about mammals!!! It includes all phylum. Easy class if you are taking easy classes. lots of assignments. Hard. The guy is cool but he thinks you want to be a zoologist.
Dr. Tupper is a great professor. The course is packed with information so be prepared to study. The amount of info. can seem overwhelming, but as long as you are good with time management you'll be fine. If anyone knows their stuff it's Dr. Tupper, the man is brillant and knows what he's talking about. Take this class, it's awesome.
Took this class online as well as BIO102. No matter who you take this class with it is tough. Professor Tupper is very good at explaining and works with you to help you get through this. The only problem during the two semesters I had him is that he takes a really long time to get back to you on emails and with grades, sometimes a whole month.
This class is a lot of fun. Someone wrote something about him flipping his lid? That sounds really weird, he gets cranky when people walk in late and when we don't turn our work in on time, but other then that, he is chill.
Oh my god, he is sooo annoying! He is very blunt and grouchy and he acts as though he is such a cool guy. He is not that bad I guess but he seriously gets cranky sometimes and the tests aren't that easy.
Test - hard, first 2 tests will he will give some hints/answers sometimes. The final is very hard and long. Lab is okay, nothing too hard beside ID the animals' sounds.
Dr. Tupper is a great teacher that really wants you to learn. He's pretty relaxed although gets grumbly if people are being stupid (coming in late/not bothering to even try to learn etc). LOTS of info in this class so be prepared & pay attention to the start/end of each chapter & taxonomy/chars...if you do that it's cake...oh & trips are cool too.
he is super hot!!!!!!
Dr. Tupper is one of the best professors you will ever meet especially when it comes to any material related to the animal kingdom. Extremely helpful and very clear. The class is a lot of fun. Exams are very easy if you pay attention to his lectures. Also, he posts the lecture slides on Blackboard. I recommend anyone to take his class. It's fun.
The first day I walked into class I thought he was a cutie. But throughout his semester he just faded away,he expects students to be on time when he is late sometimes. The little hints he gives for his exams aren't so helpful. I took BIO102 with him and I felt like I was taking Zoology. Forgot to mention that his powerpoints are so long!!!
i wish i read the comment before. extremely hard
take his class if want to fail
Professor Tupper is my absolute favorite teacher. He is so sweet and supportive. He has high expectations for his students and wants them to succeed but you really have to pay attention, go to the lectures, and take excellent notes if you want to do well in his class.
Dr. Tupper is a great professor. Wants you to do well and succeed. If you actually want to learn, he is very helpful and accomodating. You NEED to show up for class regularly and on time. Pay attention in class and study, you will learn a lot. I actually looked forward to going to his lectures.
Amazing teacher. He's an expert.. but like a cool expert. Totally hot and really fun.
He is a great teacher however I would not advice anyone who has not studied BIology in the past to take his summer class.
He is a good professor, just study really hard from his lecture slides and you will be fine.
I took this class ELI. Dr. Tupper is SLOW to grade papers. On two occasions when I emailed him, he took more than a week to respond and I had to email again. The materials are poorly organized and require a thorough updating. The study guide does not provide adequate guidance as to what will be on exams. The "practice exams" are inadequate.
Dr. T is an amazing teacher, you can tell he has a passion for what he is doing. His class was difficult because of the amount of info presented but you will learned a lot and the info is really interesting. Dr. T will not give you a good grade, you have to earn it but the material is provided to you, so simply study!
Print off the power points from BBoard and add notes around it. If he asks someone if they are paying attention write the next thing he says down. For the tests he has a review the class before and gives questions from the test.
incredibly gorgeous but his attitude can change that ask him for help but know what your asking He's super passionate about biology well zoology All Bio classes are hard btw his is only because it's a lot of taxonomy memorization Use the book & power points to study form study group - slide show on taxonomy tests reviews b4 hand awesome field trips
TOOK MR T ON A 5 WEEK SUMMER SESSION, WAS STUCK IN CLAS TWICE A WEEK FROM 8AM TO 6PM. CLASS WAS A LITTLE HARD BUT PAY ATTENTION, WRITE EVERYTHING HE SAIDS ON THE REVIEWS BEFORE A TEST AND I PROMISE YOU'LL END UP WITH AN A+ LIKE I DID =)
He is very passionate about zoology. He is VERY hard. You will have to study real hard to even slide by in his class. Very attractive and kinda a smart ally but he's kind but not too reasonable. No hmwk, no quiz, no extra credit. Just exams. Do not miss a class cause he goes over a lot in one lecture.
HE IS VERY PASSIONATE AND KIND.
He's not even bad. He is very passionate about science but he is very easy and cool. His test questions come directly from the powerpoints. I would recommend him and sometimes he will let you out of class early :)
Dr. Tupper has a no-nonsense approach to teaching. He's funny and honest, and does not tolerate incessant questions or off-topic comments. While his lectures cover a lot of material, you will still need to do a fair amount of independent study in order to succeed. He knows his stuff, so don't try to one-up him with facts you read on Wikipedia.
Dr Tupper is GREAT!!! As much as his classes felt like honor leaves, just read his slides before class and should do fine. Most of the test questions are taken from the slide. Pay careful attention in class - he will pick on students from time to time. He's pretty laid back - just read the material before you go to class. Highest praises!
Honestly one of the harder classes I've taken but well worth it. Dont think that you can roll up late to the class or not pay attention and get a good grade. Show up on time, take notes, and read the textbook or view the slides and the class won't be too difficult. He's a great teacher, if not initially intimidating.
He was a good professor. The content was hard but he tried to make it easy and enjoyable. He definitely puts the effort in to being a good professor. I learned a lot and I'm glad I was able to take the class with him as a professor.
I took him in an 8 week and it was hard! I got through it though. Definitely study for the exams! use the study guide material too. Sometimes the essay questions don't relate so most times I didn't really look at those and just went on a whim. Overall a great teacher and really makes you learn it.
Difficult class, especially for a first time BIO student like myself. He's clearly in love with the topic and he keeps his lectures interesting. Funny when he's in a good mood, but can get really grumpy. Could be more specific about project instructions, really prompt grader. Fun labs. Requires a lot of memorization of terms.
GREAT professor! He's very well educated, well respected & will help you if you put forth the effort. Attendance is mandatory! Lectures are dense but will fly by & he will call on anyone to answer Qs & make sure the class isn't lost. His exams are mainly MC w/ an essay or two & the essay topics are given in advance. Study groups are highly advised!
He is tough but gives you multiple chances on the labs. Study for his exams, not just know the stuff but understand it.
Take it with someone who has a degree, this class is tough BUT probably the best class of your school career. Prof is tough but gives everyone a chance to get an A. This isn't the class where you take an exam and forget the material by the next one, everything comes back so attendance and studying on your own is important. I recommended this class!
He s gooood , but class requires a strong and hard paced student.
A lot of material and it gets very dense. You HAVE to go to lecture and pay attention. Reading the text helps. Tests are tough but he reviews most of the material ahead of time. He wants his students to do well and it shows, but you HAVE to put in the time and effort to understand the concepts. Tough class but great prof. 10/10 would recommend.
I took BIO120 with Dr. T years ago. I was young and immature so I had to retake his course- purely because I didn't put the time or effort in the first time. His style really preps you for 200 level courses. If it weren't for his class I probably wouldn't be doing as well as I am in much higher level courses. Read the book. Pay attention.
Great professor. Take his class.
This is an ELI course that Dr. Tupper taught which means he doesn't have much control over what is assigned, however he did his best to help the students through the crazy amount of work that ELI assigned. He is sincere and I would recommend taking his lecture class for BIO 102 not the ELI course.
The course is material heavy and to pass you have to have a general understanding of a lot of terms that will be completely new. A lot of studying is needed, but Tupper makes it entertaining. He is nice and engaging and tries to have a relationship with his students. It gets easier, don't give up!
Professor Tupper loves TRUE/FALSE questions which can be a bit confusing if you don't study enough. He calls on you to make sure you were paying attention, beware! He gives extra credit in the essay questions, he'll tell you in advance what these will be about. Labs are very easy and he really cares about you learning and doing well in his4 class.
Dr. Tupper is a very engaging lecturer. He knows how to explain things clearly. He lectures then quizzes students on what he just said, not as a punishment but to make sure you understood. Take lots of notes in class and get the text book because his online slides while helpful can be vague.
Fantastic professor with a super engaging teaching style. Take as many notes as you can, as the lectures can be heavy. Labs are super informative and respectful of the animals. He may allow you to borrow the required textbook from him if you cant afford it. Theres a super cool field trip near the end of the semester too.
Professor T was literally the best! I took his class my second semester at nova and my first bio teacher really wasnt the best. But he is amazing he gives you extra credit for attending and he drops your lowest test grade! Hes honestly amazing and does really great in depth lectures! I would definitely take his class again so I recommend it!
Dr Tupper is amazing and passionate. His lectures are awesome & break down complex topics in understandable ways & will always leave you wanting more biology. They're so fun time just evaporates. He is super caring & will keep explaining any concept until you understand it. Attend class, take notes & study & you'll get high grades.
Do not take this Professor, he is very strick and dosen not know how to teach. He is a very slow lecturer and goes too slow. Additionaly he does not offer office hours and dose not reply to emails. He also dose not offer feedback on assignments rather he just assigns random 0s or low marks with no explaintaions
Please do youesel f a favor and dont take this professor, His class is super hard and he assigns a research paper every week. His class is basically an english course. He is also super harsh grader and provides no feedback, he also dosent respond to emails. do not take him!
Hes very harsh grader Dont take him u will fail trust me
Repeating student that took Bio 102 and now taking Zoology with him. Covid makes everything more "difficult" however TAKE HIM, he really does a excellent job. Test were straight forward and gave study guides (which saved my butt). Lectures were always engaging! Wont regret!
Take his class, it will change your life.
Extremely knowledgeable professor who cares about his students.
Great professor
Professor Tupper is a great professor - definitely knowledgeable. Absolutely wants his students to pass and will push to have people engage. Although he does grade harsh and you truly wont pass if you dont attend class. His test study guides were literally the exams themselves. Suffer through the 4 hour class but youll do fine!
Spring2021 online because of corona. I'm sure he's better in person and he says that a lot. But virtuallyl its hard to keep up with his lectures. He skips around and just talks. There is a presentation and 1200 word essay for some reason. There are five tests but they follow the study guide exactly. He also goes over the study guide in class.
I just finished his class for BIO 101. He is a passionate professor and cares a lot about his students, always going over exams before the actual exam. His BIO 101 consists of 4 exams, and no mandatory attendance is required; however, it is best of your interest to show up because he always goes over the exam materials during the class.
MR TUPPER IS THE BEST!!!! Aside from being a great teacher, who can break down complicated concepts to the layman student in fun and engaging ways, Mr. Tupper is a genuinely good human being. He is fun, charismatic and upbeat, and is all around a very chill guy. He doesn't grade too hard, and jokes around while not getting off track for the lesson.
Dr.Tupper is a good teacher but he teaches by talking and doesn't really use the PowerPoints all that much. This class was tough, be prepared to study everyday for it. Besides that he made the class very comfortable so it was easy to talk to other people in the class. I highly recommend taking him.
Dr. Tupper is one my favorite professors at NOVA. He is very passionate about what he teaches and it is reflected onto his lectures and his way of teaching. You will enjoy taking his class and you will leave the class feeling like you have learned significant information. He is overall a very lovely person.
Pros: he's nice, understanding, not a lot of assignments, passionate about biology Cons: doesn't grade the assignments, majority of your grade is based on the exams (one after each unit), very lecture heavy which are sometimes hard to follow. - wouldn't take again but thats only idc about biology. if you love bio, take him
He is a great person and is very passionate about biology. His classes are great but I understand it's not for everyone. Your grade is determined by tests grades, and he talks ALOT. He does not teach through the slides so make sure you are absolutely focused and paying attention to what he is saying.
I took bio 101 and 102 with Dr. tupper, and he was an excellent teacher. He is very good at teaching science subjects, is highly knowledgeable about the subject, and is the best professor. He genuinely cares about his students and treats them with respect. Please take his class. He offers study guides to assist you in preparing for tests.
Great teacher, and will have you memorizing a lot, but honestly very well worth it. Love his teaching methods and I feel safe and comfortable to be in his class, really cool teacher.
BEST PROF EVER!!!! I wish I could restart the semester so that I could retake his class. TAKE HIS CLASSES!!! He is so funny and loves his students so much. You can tell he cares about his students and how well they do. Prof Tupper, if you see this, Thank you for being such an amazing professor!!
Dr. Tupper is passionate about learning and interacting with animals and it shows in his teachings. I highly recommend taking his class if you'd like to learn about the natural world. Zoology as a subject is relatively dense in the content department but Dr. Tupper does a wonderful job of lecturing in a way that keeps everyone engaged and happy.
Dr. Tupper is an amazing teacher. He is always fair and never shows favoritism, made the class really fun with his humor and kindness. His grading criteria is clear and he offers many extra credit opportunites. I went into zoology knowing nothing and came out with a whole new passion for learning and caring for animals. Truly, an amazing teacher.
Professor Tupper is the best professor I've ever had. He is incredibly knowledgeable, always available to help both in and out of class, and genuinely cares about his students' success. You'll learn so much and gain a mentor who will guide you through your academic journey. Also you can't get out of his class and not love the animals.
Professor Tupper is the best professor I've had. His clear teaching makes complex topics easy to understand. He truly cares about his students and supported me during a tough personal time. If you can, you'll want to take his class again.
Sorry to say I missed the eval period, but Prof Tupper is excellent. Highly recommend if you're keen on the subject matter. He clearly cares very much about teaching students as much as possible. Don't be intimidated by the lectures, if you have trouble keeping up, then pre-make notes to add to in-class. I'll miss the course! Great professor.
Had a different prof for 101 (who was fine) but took Prof Tupper for 102. You'll learn a lot (seemingly more than from some others) from taking his courses, especially if you pay attention. Happy for the opportunity to have taken his classes. Highly recommend esp if you have interest in the subject and don't just want to check off a requirement.
Dr. Tupper is a great professor overall and has great lectures. He tends to go very off-topic throughout the class, Which is hard. His exams are quite hard but doable. He gives extra credit and takes you to parks to teach better. But again difficult exams and confusing material. He needs to make the ppt's a little more connected 100 ques in 100 min
Dr. Tupper is a good professor, no doubt, but his exams are too hard. Very lecture-heavy and book-heavy. Study all day and all night and, his exams are still too hard. 100 ques in 100 min is too much. 1 question per minute. Too much information to study, hard exams, and too much reading made this class hard to bear.
Incredible professor, passionate about his work and wants you to get the education you paid for. Understanding, lovable grouch. His textbook goes with his lectures. Lots of lectures and note-taking, pay attention! Would take his course a thousand times, but that's because I adore zoology. ;)
