Daily papers, but lots of good info. If you want to really learn, take Hammond.
Geeky. Hard to understand. More concerned about his political career
Stares too much. Get too close for comfort
Dense. Too zealous for me! Very crtical of those who have different ideas or opinions. Wanders too much and drifts from topic to topic.

After years of seminary and classes, he finally helped me "get it!" Wonderful fun teacher.
Very energetic and deep. Lots of papers to write.
He still teaching? Cool! good professor, if you want to learn about the BOM or the church he is good at it. I do remember he make you do journals etc. lots of writing. Easy class.
I took him for Doctrine & Covenants and thought he did a good job. He tried to help us grasp the "big picture" and keep the temple as our goal. We only had two papers the whole semester, so there isn't a ton of writing.
Has lots of tangents, very self-deprecating. Write a lot of papers, hard tests- very detailed, tricky questions. Read lots of conf. talks. Don't take his class on the block, too much work!
Very good person. Great intentions! Gave great help and was very encouraging. I really liked Brother Hammond and he still says hi when I see him around!
Great teacher! VERY SPIRITUAL! loves the gospel. A bit of word but its not hard. JUST DO IT and you will learn a lot and do well in his class
One of the best Professors on campus. Sincere, and passionate about his work. Highly reccomended!!!!!
Pretty good teacher. He knows his stuff
Wonderful teacher who is enthusiastic about teaching the gospel and the blessings it brings into our lives. Do the course work and you'll be blessed for it.
didn't really like him, too much lecture not enough discussion, tests were really really hard, plan on taking it for like 3hrs if you want to get a good grade, unless you know the scriptures really really in depth. Nice guy, boring teacher!
I LOVED brother hammond. great class, learned alot. i highly recommend him. He loves his students and loves what he teaches. i would love to take every class that he offers. He is highly intellegent, and cares about the scriptures.

Breeze for RM's!!
Lots of busy work!!!!
great teacher
He's nice, but I felt there was a lot of busy work.
HE is an amazing person and a great teacher! You'll never fall asleep in his class.
He likes to lecture and doesn't let you speak, plus he tried to kick me out of school for the stupidest reason and let the other person involved go away free. he pretended to know me and my family. it was funny he asked me how my step dad is, I don't have a step dad.
Loved the class. He is a great professor and if my schedule dictates I will take all my religion classes from him. Great info and willing to listen to questions and give helpfull answers. he rocks.
Awesome teacher i have taken 2 classes from him and i will plan to continue taking classes from him
Really gets down to teaching the doctrine. There is a lot of reading, and his midterm is hard, but I learned so much in class. I would recommend him to anyone. Just a great man.
Great teacher. Really gets to the meat of the subject. Really cares about the students and helps them learn.
Amazing class. Amazing professor. Requires a lot of reading and daily reading jornals, but it only takes about an hour each. I would definately recommend this guy to a friend and plan on taking another class from him in the future.
Loves it! Best religion teacher I've ever had! I learned sooo much! He's really enthusiastic and funny in a nerdy way. There's daily readings and stuff but they don't take long and they're a really good way to get some good insights. I would recommend this class to anyone! and I have!
Great class. Had a paper due every class, which got tedious but was never hard. Enjoyed it.
Brother Hammond is awesome! He loves what he teaches and it shows, he is also the funniest man I have ever encountered. Keeps the class entertained, but not distracted. He was in the state legislature for 4 years, that proves he has the right stuff!
Excellent teacher! He's funny, but in a nerdy way so took me a little while to figure it out. Lots of reading, lots of writing, but it isn't difficult at all and you learn a lot. He really cares about his students: I was behind and he worked with me one on one. I'd recommend him to anyone!
I still remember the spirit with which he taught his class 9 years later. You need to take a class from him no matter what. It's not a blow off religion class so spend the time and do the work you will be rewarded.
HE is agreat religon teacher but assighns to much work for a 2 credit class!
Way excited about class and genuinely cares about students learns and calls you by name. Really enjoyed his class!
So far, he is my favorite religion teacher. He makes it his goal to know all the students names. He really dives into the spiritual aspect of the Book of Mormon, and not the history aspect like some do. He is more for personal progress then knowledge of the Book of Mormon. I loved him.
I took the Pakistan class. The in class part was easy, and the homework part. But he was unclear on what he wanted for oral presentations, and when I asked him for help or guidance on my topic, he wouldn't help. The test is kinda hard because he doesn't use a textbook or a study guide so there's not much to study on.
He is the best religion teacher ever. He has great insights, and really knows what he is talking about. I learned so much in his class. Would take his class again. Great teacher.
I really like Bro. Hammond. He is a sweet man, and is really passionate about his subject. The downfall is that he gives enough homework/busy work for a 4 credit class! It is incredibly stressful and frustrating. He is often late about posting assignments, and it can become difficult to try and stay on top of the workload.
I love bro. Hammond as a teacher. He is the funniest guy and his laugh is hilarious. The pakistan class itself is just a lot of work and hard. Bro. Hammond taught the class well and is interesting to listen to but the midterm and final are impossible because there is so much to study and its so broad I would definitely take him again for this class
I really like Brother Hammond, he's a really goofy guy, and cares about his students. He has good insights, and is a relatively easy teacher, didnt take up all my time!
Bro Hammond is top notch. Very caring, makes an effort to remember who you are loves hearing what everyone has to say. Very fair, understanding, patient and very helpful. But you will work hard for your grade. But I learned so much and gained great love and respect for Pakistan. Favorite class. I would take all my classes from Bro Hammond!!
He teaches this class like a seminary class. Makes you memorize 12 passages that you have never memorized before. Did not have the syllabus ready by the first day of class, but he said the class would be easy. It is anything but easy, the workload is way too much for a religion class. If you liked seminary then take him, but if not avoid him.
I loved Brother Hammond! He's a silly teacher, good with the students, and genuinely cares. The work load for BOM122 is alright, you have to read your scriptures 30 min 5x per week, and blog about it 3x per week. The midterm is pretty difficult, but it's open book! There are a few papers that took some time, but I'd recommend him. Great class!
Awesome teacher! He's way entertaining, and although there's quite a bit of work, it's not more than a normal religion class and you learn a lot doing it. My favorite religion teacher so far, I would recommend to everyone!
Brother Hammond is a great person. I would not really recommend taking a class from him just because the way he taught was not very helpful to me. He was very unclear on our projects and exams. There were NO study guides for the exams which I really didn't appreciate. Like I said, he's a great guy but maybe not the best at teaching.
Was a good class, didn't really like the method of teaching, but Brother Hammond is a very enthusiastic teacher. Every week you hand in a personal evaluation sheet on how you have done with the things expected in the class. The reading schedule is confusing, but you don't really have to read what the schedule says. But it was still a good class.
Too many good things to say about this guy. Incredibly passionate about the subject, I walked out of that class feeling like I actually learned something, and enjoyed doing it! The homework, tests, and research are a breeze as long as you actually care about the subject (you should! and will, with Bro. Hammond teaching!)
He's great. So knowledgeable and willing to answer any question. He has fun with the class too. I would take a class from him again in a heartbeat.
Bro. Hammond really focuses on the spiritual aspects of the Book of Mormon rather than obscure facts. For each class period, you are required to spend 1.5 hours outside of class reading the scriptures and manual and preparing a prep paper. Not hard, and it really helped me delve into the scriptures. Self-directed learning, fun discussions, AMAZING
Very nice and genuine!
The BEST teacher I've had in college next to Brother Darin Merrill, but they're in 2 different leagues of awesome! Hammond is very spiritual, willing to answer every question, SO humble, thought provoking, inspiring, insightful, wise, profound, encouraging, uplifting, kind, funny, always cheerful, and SO Christlike. Just DO the work! It's SO easy!
Brother Hammond is by far the best teacher I've ever had! He's so knowledgeable and spiritual. He always has a good story for class. His assignments are way easy! Just one small worksheet for every class and that's it! Take his Pakistan class!
Bro Hammond was one of the best teachers I've ever had. He's really fair, there's a paper due each class that's super easy, and it's easy to get an A. 95% self graded. A few tests and papers but they're easy. Bro Hammond is super humble and genuine and really cares about all of his students and how they're doing.
so great.
He is an awesome teacher! He usually makes class interesting and is a great guy. He is helpful, humble, and fair. I would love to take a class of his again. I learned much more than I expected. There is a worksheet before each class period and a couple of projects but nothing that is too hard.
He is my favorite teacher! I've taken him for religion and for Pakistan and he is my favorite teacher of all time! He is very clear, and a fair teacher
Took Missionary Prep class. Most of grade was based off of daily preparation for class, 10 minutes of reading scriptures daily and an hour of study in the textbook each week. There are a few bigger teaching projects graded for participation and 7 scripture tests that are more difficult. He's a fun teacher and helps you appreciate the subject.
When I first went to class I was turned off by the sunday school type setting. I thought, "I'm an RM, try to teach me something about the BOM." It turned out to be my favorite class. Br. Hammond is THE most humble man I know. You can feel his love for the Savior in everything he does. He knows all the students names. He is happy and very insightful
Brother Hammond is amazing! I will definitely be taking another class from him in the future. His insights wonderful and his love of the gospel is evident. As long as you are good with writing this is the BOM class for you. No exams!
He is the greatest Book Of Mormon teacher ever!! His class was super easy and you give yourself the grade! I highly recommend him, you will not regret it.
Such a weird, strange teacher haha but his class is very easy. maybe 1 test, no quizzes, easy to pass prep forms, his classes jus drag on, and on. hopefully you love to doodle:)
Bro. Hammond was pretty easy for Pakistan. Just a few readings a week, and then a discussion in class. There are only 2 papers due and 1 test. I would recommend him, he's pretty easy. And funny.
Brother Hammond is a great teacher! You can tell he loves the gospel through the way he teaches. The class is very easy to pass with an A. You do a daily prep. paper, there are a few assignments that are really easy, and 2 scripture memorization tests. If you want a class that doesn't overload you with work and is enjoyable, take this class!
He doesn't really teach with the spirit. I'ts all fluff and just stuff that he knows (which isn't much). He does this weird thing where he pretends to be choked up so that you think he's feeling the spirit... WAY too much busy work. You have like 3 useless, time consuming projects and papers. 30 minutes of study daily plus a paper. not worth it
Brother Hammond is so awesome! He teaches with the spirit. There are no tests or quizzes except 2 memorization tests but they're easy, and you have a short paper due every class, but it's based on your opinion. Attendance is mandatory, but because he's awesome you'll want to go. I would recommend him to anyone for Book of Mormon!
I really enjoyed this class! Brother Hammond is a quirky dude. Kind of strange but really, he cracked me up. There weren't too many tests but he challenges you to use the Honor Code on what few assignments you have. If you want the spirit with lots of laughs, take this class! Brother Hammond is definitely different, but hey, all God's children. ;)
Bro. Hammond is a great professor. All of the prep papers are self-graded; basically you get what you put into it. Not hard at all & compared to other religion professors I've had, Bro Hammond is one of my favorites! He brings the spirit into class & also has a sense of humor - the perfect balance for a religion class.
Such a great professor!! I learned so much from his class!! Super clear instructions, very helpful, and works with you instead of against you like some other professors do.
My favorite teacher by far! He teaches the stuff that matters. I am going to take all of his religion classes! He gets kind of emotional sometime because he loves the Book of Mormon so much. He is hilarious and fun to be with. it is so easy too!
Bro Hammond is exceptional in class. His lectures are incredibly interesting, and he really knows his stuff. If you pay attention, you will feel the Spirit and learn a LOT in class. However, he assigns a lot of busy work. Two major projects and two large papers every semester, then a 300 word paper and 5-10 chapters every class period.
Brother Hammond is so awesome. I have taken 3 of classes now and I've received an A in every one and I loved every one of his classes. Few assignments, but they're easy. I will always recommend him! He's so great.
Brother Hammond is a hilarious teacher, very spiritual. His class is awesome, I highly recommend this class for anyone.
Reading for 30 mins every day. Turn in a summary of what you read every class about your insights so it's really easy. He assigns 2 or 3 large papers, but are easy. Everything is done on your honesty, so don't take advantage of it or it will backfire. Great inspirational lectures, i felt the spirit every time in class. Super funny and lovable.
He is so AWESOME! You have to do a reading of 3-5 pg before each class, answer questions and take a short quiz. Midterm super easy, individual presentation, group presentation and written research paper (-no final). It was kind of a lot of stuff but he was just so fun. The class was not difficult just a lot of work but I'd take it again.
Bro Hammond LOVES what he does and that literally spews off of him! He applies absolutely everything to the gospel. He's kinda scatter-brained at times, but if you just ask questions you're fine. There's a lot of work for this class - but it's usually pretty easy, just time consuming. You will gain a greater appreciation for all of God's children.
I LOVE BROTHER HAMMOND! He is the nicest person. He gets to know each of his student by name and gets to know them personally. He'll never forget you once you've taken his class. It is obvious that he love what he does and it makes the classes very enjoyable. No tests, simple reading assignments, a few easy papers and easy group projects.
A really awesome religion teacher! I took Church History from him and really liked it. the the Assignments aren't hard and there is only one "test" its more of a worksheet and its open note, open internet, open everything. You really have to go to class and not skip.
Brother Hammond is by far my favorite professor. He is the most humble man I know. The Spirit was always so strong during class and he genuinely cares about every person there. He helped me gain a greater love for the Book of Mormon and helped me in so many other ways. Brother Hammond is seriously the best!
Brother Hammond was quite boring for me. He takes a bit to long to get out what he's trying to say, and he doesn't dive deeper into student's questions, he just passes over them casually. With that being said, the class was easy. 75 minutes of reading before each class, and a 200 word reflection on what you read.
I have a huge respect for Brother Hammond. He really cares about each student individually and wants everyone to succeed. He is sincere and strives to have the spirit in his class. His class is fairly easy with a few projects but nothing crazy. Very kind man.
I love Brother Hammond as a person. I think he is a wonderful man with a lot of great values. As far as his teaching, his directions are sometimes confusing and it takes him awhile to get his point across. What I love about his class is that there aren't any tests in the testing center, however, there is A LOT of busy work and homework/reading due.
Amazing person, and extremely humble. He is the guy to take for Family Foundations (now called "The Eternal Family"). He makes the class much easier because he is all about the doctrine rather than the assignments. The class can be controversial, but he handles it really well. Every two weeks you have a quiz, a large group meeting, and a report.
Brother Hammond is the biggest sweetheart! I daresay that it was his warm personality and inspiring testimony that made the class so meaningful. I found myself looking forward to his class every single time just to hear his spiritual thoughts. Homework is 75 minutes of reading plus a 350 word essay every night, but it was worth it-I learned a ton!
Easy participation work but a very boring class. He is a great guy. He sticks to the lesson and doesn't really follow where the class wants to go, so I felt like I learned less than I should have. Easy, but if you want to have fun and learn take it from another professor.
Brother Hammond is a really inspirational teacher and really cares about the subjects he teaches. Homework is usually just readings to prepare for class, with a few group projects that are not bad at all. I would really recommend taking his class.
This class and this teacher are not prepared, and frankly quite bigoted. Don't take if you in any way lean to liberal philosophy. Also, don't take if you're not white, or if you're a white person that cares about non-white people.
He is the coolest old man, and was great for the eternal family class. I felt like participation was always very involved, and that the class was calm during controversial topics.
Pretty standard for religion professors: uses tons of obscure quotes to back up his own opinions about how we should all be living like its 1950s America. Not as confrontational as other religion professors, but still spreads potentially damaging ideas. Also very disorganized, but is willing to admit that about himself. Nice guy, mediocre professor
I really like Bro Hammond, but DO NOT take him for Rel. freedom. I took it the 1st semester he taught it, and he had no idea what he was talking about. The readings were difficult, boring, and often never discussed in class. I got 52% on the midterm & was one of the highest scores, so the tests are nearly impossible. Love Bro Hammond--not the class
Bro. Hammond is a great guy; he knows his stuff and loves the students. However, he's set the course up with a lot of busy-work; most of it is reading that isn't relevant with the class discussion. Each class we write 250 words about what we read, but I don't think he reads what we write. Like I said, he's a good guy; I don't suggest him as a prof.
He's amazing! Has great knowledge & testimony that shows through in his classroom. Wants us all to learn from each other. Super kind & will always help you out! Homework takes some time, but it's not hard as long as you do it! I've been inside his home, & he practices what he preaches! Such an incredible spirit and love there. Such a genuine guy.
One of the worst professors I've had. He doesn't really take care of ilearn. Doesn't read your papers. Rambles throughout class. Very nice as a person, just a horrible professor. Some group work in the class, and dating is required (not a bad thing). Class isn't bad itself, I wouldn't recommend Hammond if he was the last professor on Earth.
He was so amazing! He is very in tune with the spirit and gives the most incredible lectures. He cares for each student and you can tell. He respects everyone and loves his family. He can be pretty funny too.
Bro Hammond was one of my favourite teachers. I took a first block class and was sad when his class finished. His classroom is very relaxed, open discussion but prepare to study 5 hours a week. Self-assessed class. He knows all his students' names, regardless of whether they contribute or not. He's passionate and inspirational about the Gospel.
Brother Hammond is one of the best religion professors I have ever had. He is the nicest and the most genuine man ever. I loved his insights! Would definitely recommend him over and over again and take his class again for sure!
Brother Hammond cares about his students and knows them by name, although he bases his class on traditional and ambiguous quotes without context. The reading assignments are heavy, but none of them are scriptural. He always has a quote, yet rarely references true scripture or doctrine. He is not progressive and teaches his conventional thinking.
Brother Hammond is the most amazing, genuine, and christ-like professor. He teaches you doctrine and does it in a fun and entertaining way. He truly cares about his students and wants nothing but the best for them. I would take all his classes if I could. There is very little work, and I feel like I have learned so much this semester. I LOVE HIM!!!
I am not crazy about religion classes but this class was easy and I enjoyed showing up. I don't care to read, he assigns readings but it is only prep for a discussion in class, so not a lot of pressure.
Brother Hammond is super sweet. He seems to care for all his students and tries to make the class as fun as possible. Tbh I didn't always pay attention in class but when I did, the things he said always stuck with me. He makes sure he doesn't hurt anyone's feelings with what he says and is very careful with his words. I recommend him!
Hes great and invited us over for waffles
Brother Hammond is so nice! He truly is a very kind and genuine individual. I had a bit of a hard time with the structure of his class. I felt like it was more of a Q and A every class than leading us through a discussion about specific scriptures. It made it hard for me to show up.
Brother Hammond is by far my favorite professor at BYUI. He took out the time to individually get to know every one of his students, have us over for dinner sometimes, and really was like a bishop or a counselor to me. I love how he strived to push us all towards Christ and how he did it in such a loving, inclusive way.
Brother Hammond is super nice, sweet, and very caring. His class is kind of a joke though, he lets too many people talk so we rarely get to learn anything, let alone anything new. I wish he would take over the class more often, and share his own presentations. The homework is pretty easy. About what you'd expect for a 2 credit religion class.
Brother Hammond is SO AWESOME! Definitely take a class from him; he doesn't do busy work and he cares so much. He's amazing and I'm taking another class from him next semester!!
Brother Hammond is a well-rounded religion professor who is easy-going and extremely spiritual. His lectures are insightful and easy to understand. You will better understand the gospel if you participate in class, do the preparation readings, and put effort into the bi-weekly writing assignments.
Overall, Brother Hammond is a great guy. You can tell that he cares about his students. However, I didn't love his teaching style. I thought it would be more hands-on learning to get ready for a mission, but it was more of a light lecture. I also didn't think he was a very organized grader or teacher.
This is my second time taking a class from Brother Hammond and he is AWESOME!!! I love him so much; he is motivating, kind, and will take time to get to know you. TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN. Unfortunately, he only teaches 2 classes, so I won't be able to take another class from him, but if I could, I would. NO BUSY WORK.
I love Brother Hammond! He knows the BOM super well and gives good lectures. His message is always good. he wants you to be reading the BOM for class and creating tags on the library app but not a ton of homework. Hes kind and cares about his students individually.
I took REL351 (world religions) from Brother Hammond his first semester teaching it, and it was great! He is very kind, pretty goofy and cares a lot about his students. He has also traveled around east Asia quite a bit, so he knows lots about those religions. I learned a ton in this class, and I grew a great appreciation for other cultures :)
I had brother Hammond for my Teachings of the Book of Mormon class, and he was awesome! He knows what he's teaching and gives great insight into the scriptures. Very inspirational lectures. He genuinely cares about each student. He also has very cool ties from Thailand (Thai ties).
He was a great religion teacher and I look forward to take future classes from him.
Brother Hammond is a really nice traditional 50's guy. I think the people in our class really made it an impactful class for me. I will say if you are in a class with people who are quiet then I can see how it could be a pretty bad experience. His I-Learn is a mess and his teaching style is erratic, but he does care for his students.
Brother Hammond is the nicest professor I have ever met. He cares for his students deeply. People have said his lectures are not good, but I deeply disagree...he is such a light. He has the amazing ability to testify of Christ and his restored Gospel. I loved this class! I felt he truly cared about me, my mission, and my future.
He is nice, though not very organized. I wish our lectures had more structure; we usually went on a tangent, and I don't feel I got much from the course as a whole. There is little homework, simple readings and projects throughout the semester- not very time consuming. Bro Hammond, cares for his students.
Brother Hammond is a caring professor who makes an effort to connect with students. While his teaching style can be erratic, he genuinely wants students to grow. Unstuck ai was a helpful resource for preparing for his tests.
Brother Hammond is a pretty good teacher without a lot of unnecessary assignments in his class. He does tend to say things the same way but it's never without energy. His handwriting is sometimes hard to understand, but he normally uses powerpoints anyway.
Loved Brother Hammond a lot. He is my favorite religion professor. He assigns readings before class and the usual "were you here" assignment. His lectures are often disorganized, but you always get something good from them. He cares for all students and will love you more if you shake his hand when entering class.
Brother Hammond is my favorite professor! I have taken him twice already and hope to take another class with him. The work in his class is doable, not time-consuming, and very thought-provoking. His lectures are spiritual, and you can tell he is passionate about what he is teaching. He cares a lot about his students.
Truly my favorite teacher here! Brother Hammond is so sweet and welcoming! My class was for new/non members (intro to the church class) and I have learned so much from him! It's mostly doing some reading before class and then we talk about the reading or just the topic of the reading!
Love this guy! I have never learned so much from an online class. I will try to take an in-person class with him. Minimal work for an online class and it's not too much to take away from the testimony growth aspect that a religion course should have.
If you want an easy professor for religion, choose him. However, you're likely to dig much deeper into doctrine with other professors.
This is my third semester choosing to take a class with Brother Hammond. He is my favorite professor on campus! His classes are fun, but he knows how to rein it in and apply his strong testimony and teach strong gospel principles. You can tell he cares about his students and their personal conversion and testimonies more than just the "curriculum".
I absolutely loved his class! def would take a class with him again!
He is a great professor! Seriously the kindest soul ever, not heavy on the assignments and is a good class. Would definitely take a class from him again!
Brother Hammond is the most wholesome, kind, and funny teacher I have had. He really cares about his students and wants to see them succeed. You can also truly see his love for the gospel, which is very inspiring.
HE IS AMAZING. Definitely take his class! He is the kindest soul ever and there is barely any work for this class!
