Awesome professor!!! If you do not want to go the lectures, you do not have to go because he puts all of his slides online anyway. Your grade in the class depends on the preformance of your classmates, but if you follow the chapters and complete the problem sets, you should be able to pull an A.

Go to lecture and discussions and do your problem sets (which are only like 4 problems) and you will get an A. Although it is tempting to skip, as he mostly just reads the book, you should go because he can sneak in other important graphs. I liked him overall. He also makes corny jokes :)

Idson is great! He wears these crazy hats to class and makes corny jokes, but you just laugh at them bc he's just cute. It was a nice nap, and the discussions clarified a lot. The notes are online and you really don't have to listen, and the sample tests really helped. I ended up pulling off a B!

The material itself is interesting and useful in the real world; however, he makes the class much more difficult than it actually should be. The problem with this course is the grading system. The final exam counts for half of your final grade in the course. If you are doing well in the beginning (as I was) and then mess up on the final, your grade suffers tremendously. He no longer collects homework which leaves to not having much motivation to do it. Avoid unless the policies change.

Those who think these tests are really hard are guys never read textbook and never go to the lectures.

Knowledgeable, and good for an intro class. But boring lectures. By week 4 I figured out that you can either read the textbook and not go to lecture, or vice versa, and still end up with the same grade. He uses text verbatim from the book on his slides. Overall fine and isn't bad if you're just taking economics as a major requirement like me.

Lectures were boring and unnecessary, but attendance was not mandatory. My TA was awful but that's just luck of the draw, not Idson's fault. Tests seemed hard but not too hard to cram for in my experience. Course graded on a curve, 13 free points for HW completion, hard midterms & final. Cool accent that makes it easier to listen to lectures.

Idson does a great job of helping you actually understand the economic concepts rather than just re-state the textbook in lectures. Problems sets are free points, they are graded on effort not accuracy. The course paper, if you put the effort in, is quite simple and a good grade boost. Make sure you know his main lecture examples.
