His class convinced me to change my major to Sociology. He's awesome
Great teacher, easy class.
Soci3810 is his Criminology course. He's very easy to listen to, but if you go into class tired, his voice may put you to sleep. The subject matter is presented in an appealing way and videos are a tool he utilizes often. Attendance = bonus points.
I've had him for 3 courses, and I think he is by far the best teacher at UGA. His classes were easy, entertaining, and you actually learned something. He also cares about his students and will help you with any problems you might have. Take his courses!
I actually looked forward to going to this class! Awesomely entertaining and you learn so much! Take him!!
I wasn't excited about taking Sociology, but now it is my favorite class. He is such a good teacher and really knows his subject material. I would definitely recommend him!
I decided to minor in Sociology after taking Todd Krohn's class. He is interesting and engaging. Also, he extensively easy on the eyes.
He is a very liberal, but fair and knowledgeable prof. He hates Zell Miller, asside from that he is a Great professor. highly recommend
He teaches sociology in a manner so effective that he inspires open and thoughful debate. Highly, Highly recommend him.
One of the best teachers at UGA! His criminology course is great, take it.
You will have to study a lot for this class and really bpay attention, but Dr.Krohn is amazing and maks the topic very interesting. It is nice to see that he is interested in the subjects he teaches.
Far and away the best class and professor i have had in college. I took his class as a short summer session and LOVED it. I wish it would have lasted longer. I highly encourage anyone to take him. As for me, I want to take another class with him. Really interesting discussions.
he's hip.
In a word. Awesome
He is such a great professor! His tests are pretty easy if you study and go to class. I would reccomend his class to everyone!
I found the class to be difficult. I assumed it would be an easy A, but worked hard and ended up with a B. Very very interesting class. He has good discussions and awesome videos, however his notes are complex and text book style which i disliked. Great class though!
Good guy, but the way he just kind of puts up page after page to copy while he lectures can be annoying. The material is usually very interesting, and you can tell he really knows his stuff, but there's just so MUCH of it that it can be difficult to study effectively. I'd still recommend it, though.
He really knows his stuff and the class is very interesting, but because there are so many notes, the tests can be difficult. Went into this thinking an easy A, but will end up with a B. Really nice, helpful professor, though.
Krohn is a very good professor. He does a wonderful job of explaining things! I would reccommend this class to anyone!
I really enjoyed this class, so much so that I am now a Sociology minor. His notes were occasionally a pain in the butt to copy down (I would recommend bringing a lap top) but they're not too hard. I read the book and the notes and ended up with an A in the class. I would definitely recommend him and the class!
I loved this class, Krohn is very helpful and his class was actually very interesting!
Tons of notes to copy and he doesnt use a microphone, but there is no work and only 3 tests. Very easy as long as you read the notes and maybe scan the book. Highly recommended.
The class is pretty intense because of the pages and pages of notes taken per lecture. A couple of times we did get to watch 30 min movies. The discussion sessions are completely pointless and you do NOT learn anything in there. However, attendence to both lecture and discussion is mandatory. There are only 3 grades in the class, and they are hard tests
good teacher... the class is only three tests... and well you can figure how much stress goes along with that no matter what the teacher... but he is good and he isn't out to get you, just be there for the tests or else you will get an extremely hard ESSAY test in which he grades harsher than the multiple choice tests... oh, yeah NO CURVE
He's an excellent teacher who is very enthused about his work. He makes the material interesting but he puts up a ton of pages to copy. The notes seem to follow the book word for word. Make sure you know his statistics (% of such and such) for the tests! The tests are all multiple choice and there are only 3. Bonus points for attendance.
he's very clever with some of his comments- has a lot of interesting views. his class is fast paced and missing a class is a bad idea. break outs were awful and pointless.
I was planning on being a Criminal Justice major until this class. There are so many notes, the information is outdated, the tests are random and confusing etc. I love studying crime but I don't suggest this class. I think I will get a low B (hopefully). He doesn't curve and the tests get harder. All my other classes are As except for this one.
I thought the class was hard...not like high school sociology! Hard to read/see notes because he uses overhead projections. Did better on tests after I started to do the readings...lots of exam questions like "who would say this" and would list theories
He is hilarious and awesome at teaching. He keeps you interested, and sociology is an overall very interesting topic. It's a lot of notes, but he goes slow enough for you to copy. Attendance isn't mandatory but you get extra credit for being there when he does take it. Take this class!!! I loved it.
There were tons of notes and the tests were incredibly hard. The information is actually pretty interesting and you think you know the material until the test is in front of you.
I LOVED this class. I felt like everyhting he talked about was important and applies to my daily life. He is very knowledgeable and though I disagree with many of his opinions and those of the authors of the textbooks, I really enjoyed listening to his lectures. And, test questions are directly out of book and notes.
This class was a blast. The teacher is really interesting and he keeps your attention. The test are a little hard but if you study there not bad. To get a good grade you have to study the book along with the notes. Overall this class was amazing and by far my favorite class. I would recommend taking the class.
GREAT class and GREAT professor! The class is not easy; there are a lot of notes and you HAVE to read the book, but it's very interesting. There were only three tests in my class, but if you read and go to class, they're not hard. TAKE THIS CLASS!
Overall easy class. Attendance isn't mandatory, but there are pages of notes to type during class each day. The 2 bonus points for attendance in breakout is helpful for your grade. Make sure to read the chapters and the tests will be simple.
HATED this class. He gave tons of notes, some of which were on the tests, but mostly test material came from the book. I thought the material was useless to life, and the break-outs were pointless period. He was unapproachable and made rude comments when he was trying to be funny. I don't mind working hard in class, but this was ridiculous.
He is a nice guy and is fairly entertaining. Notes are best taken on a computer because there are so many of them and he goes pretty fast. The tests are very specific from both his notes and the book.
If you study and read the book you're golden. Easy class, interesting material, nice guy. Not very much emphasis on practical use. His tests are not very hard at all if you know how to study. Some TA's breakouts are better than others, they aren't all useless. Don't expect him to change or curve your grades. Take a sense of humor to class with you.
The hardest part of this class is staying awake while reading the book, which unfortunately did me in. Take the practice quizzes on the book's website, you will recognize about 10 of them on the test. Breakout was boring but unfortunately mandatory. Lectures are very good and worth going to
Highly recommend! Make sure you read the book and I would suggest taking a laptop to class due to the extensive notes to jot down. He had all of the notes typed up which made it easier. He's very helpful and trys to make the dry parts of this survey class more interesting. Definitely do the practice tests on the on the books website.
He tries to make class interesting. Lots of notes, but they're all typed up on a powerpoint. You just need to bring a laptop to class and copy them. The topics we covered were very interesting in my opinion. The breakout session helps you further understand the material. Tests weren't ridiculously hard, but I studied a lot and only got a B average.
This man is horrible. What's funny is that most of the students go, "Oh, he's so interesting! I've never heard any of it before!!!!" That's because half the time he's making it up. He only cites in his notes the obvious information. A lot of it is outdated. He will make fun of students and clearly hates Georgia (the state). I do not recommend.
I have taken 4 classes in a row with this professor and I never get tired of his class. He is extremely honest and makes the class interesting. If you go to class everyday and at least do most of the reading there is no reason you shouldn't get at least a B.
This is my second time taking one of his clases. He is very straight forward with what he expects from you. Attend class, take notes, and read. He takes attendance once a week on a random day...He gives a lot of notes, and recently stop allowing laptops in class so be prepared for hand cramps! His test are fairly easy, mostly multiple choice.
One of the best teachers I have ever had. If you have any interest in any of the classes he teaches, I would highly reccomend it. Great information. Great class videos.
He's a great teacher, and I find him funny.. he's really sarcastic, which I get a kick out of. Definitely read the book and take the online quizzes. His tests are all multiple choice, which i found straightforward and easy. I feel like every day I think about something I learned in his class. Great teacher. but Ive never talked to him in person...
My favorite class of the year. The final brought my grade down and I didn't end with the grade I wanted but I still received a "B". He's very sarcastic and likes to joke. If he gets a laugh he'll keep going. There's only 3 test so you must study the book. I did practice test online for the test 2 and it was my highest grade.
Although reading the book is vital for passing the test, the subject material is VERY interesting so I really didn't have a problem with it. He doesn't allow laptops and everything is written by hand. My only problem with this was that everybody cannot write as fast as he talks so each day my notes were incomplete.
GREAT Professor! Always makes class interesting by telling funny stories and jokes, as well as interesting facts. You must read the book to do well, but if you take the online practice quizzes it makes the tests much easier. I'm taking him for every sociology class from now on!!
Awesome teacher, straight up. Test for Criminal Punishment and Society were half multiple choice, half essay, most of material came from notes AND book. Test are straight up without any gotcha questions. He has a funny, dry sarcastic humor which is funny.
Krohn is hands down my favorite prof at UGA. His class was my first (and probably only) B+, but I learned more in one semester than I have in all my Criminal Justice classes combined. Everything he teaches is applicable to a future career in criminal justice as well as to daily life. Approachable and funny - but multiple choice questions tricky!
Awesome teacher. Makes material interesting. Random attendance through out semester, but come to class and you may get points added to final grade. Scanning/reading the book is necessary. Notes are straightforward. Overall just a really nice dude, and definitely worth taking!
He is the best professor I took my freshman year. I actually decided to double major in soci so i could take more of his classes. He is very straight forward and if you read the book and do the online quizzes you'll do fine. he is a good and funny teacher. goes through notes a lil fast but usually says everything thats on the notes.
Mr. Krohn is such a nice guy and a great professor! He REALLY knows what he's talking about, and he loves what he does so that makes him that much more enjoyable. Also he adds 2 points to your GPA if you don't miss a day of class! I definitely recommend him for anyone wanting to take sociology. Thanks for being a great professor, Mr. Krohn!
He is difficult in that you have to read your notes and the book to do well on the tests. But hands down the BEST teacher at UGA. I added sociology as a major after taking him and made a point to take all his classes. I would recommend him to anyone- very funny and witty.
By far the BEST teacher at UGA. I've had him for three classes now and will be taking him again next semester. Very funny and makes class interesting. Tests are multiple choice, and VERY tricky, but manageable. Must read the book. He has no filter, which makes the class entertaining. You want to take him!!
Dr. Krohn is easily an awesome teacher. He's engaging, fun, and knows his stuff. Definitely take him if you have the chance.
AMAZING. I'm taking as many classes as I can with Krohn. He's hilarious and keeps everyone interested. VERY smart. There's alot of notes, so summarizing is good. If you don't miss any classes, you get 2 points added to your grade. 3-4 tests on notes and book so READ them! love love LOVE him!
An easy teacher with an entertaining, cynical sense of humor. Tries very hard to teach objectively, but it's easy to tell he stands well to the left on most issues. Read the book and get the attendance bonus and you'll do fine. Despite some quibbles, I highly recommend him, and will likely take him again.
Professor Krohn is a good teacher that relates well with students. He only has 2 tests and a final but all 3 tests are straight-forward. Read the book and do the online quizzes. He gives 2 bonus points for attendance which can be very helpful. Easy B+ or A-. Only negative is he gives a TON of notes. Also flies through the notes. WOULD RECOMMEND
Prof Krohn was a great teacher. The class was straightforward and interesting. Despite disagreeing with his personal viewpoints, I enjoyed his sarcasm and cynicism. The attendance bonus is super helpful and he shows the funniest videos (esp. the parking garage attendants!) I would def. recommend!
Dr. Krohn holds extremely interesting lectures with crystal clear details, yet the tests were a little less than fair. He spits out a million dates, numbers and percentages and expects you to know a few of them for the test (without letting you know which ones to focus on). There are also couple trick questions on the tests. Expect to write a lot o
Best teacher I ever had in college.
Didn't let us use laptops which was inconvenient. A lot of notes to basically just copy from the board as he goes over them. Subject was interesting and there were heated discussions at times. He takes roll about once a week for participation grade. Overall good professor. Take notes and read over them to do fine on the test.
I took this class because I needed a social science... The material is very boring and very redundant. His lectures come straight from the textbook, but you still need to go to class because he takes random attendance and he adds 2 pts. to your grade if you never miss a class. The tests are all multiple choice and question wording is tricky
Such a great class. Yes he flies through the notes and your hand will from writing so fast, but he's a good teacher and he makes the material interesting. You do have to read the book, but he puts questions from the online quizzes on the tests so do them! Not a hard class, and he adds 2 pts. onto your final grade if you don't skip class.
TAKE HIM! Especially if you are a soci/criminal justice major! You get 2 points added to your final grade if you never miss a class. He is awesome and the class is really interesting! Study the notes and the book for the tests which are hard if you don't read. He makes the class fly by and is a really nice guy! I highly recommend him for any class!
Great Proffessor! And super funny too!
He is incredibly funny but lectures include tons of statistics that rarely appear on the tests. Wording can be tricky too. He has a very good sense of humor though and you watch a lot of eye opening docs. If you attend every class you get 2 extra points to your final grade. I learned a lot from him but prepared to write a lot of notes!
If you are a CJ major...TAKE KROHN!!! He is an amazing teacher and passionate about criminal justice. He does random attendance checks and gives you extra points if you are there to sign in. He is a GREAT professor!!! He is really funny too!
Funny professor, very friendly and engaging in class but there are a lot of notes. In our class he took attendance for the first week and then quit taking it. Some of the test questions are tricky and have very similar answer choices, but if you read and take notes you should do well.
Topics were interesting. Professor was very opinionated; and tests were based off of his beliefs. Tests were nit-picky and hard.
Krohn is a really good teacher. He has a dark sense of humor. I have had him for several other classes. It's pretty straightforward- you take notes every day in class and the tests are pretty much the same. Sometimes he throws in a question off the reading, but the book sucks and we don't discuss it in class. Highly recommend!
I've taken Krohn twice for criminology and juvenile delinquency and I LOVE him. His notes are very detailed and you can't type them, but if you study the notes you'll do fine on the tests. The book isn't really necessary to buy. He's really funny and really nice and helpful. If you're a SOCI/CJ major TAKE HIM. Best CJ teacher yet!
Great professor. Funny, knows his stuff religiously and the tests are straight from the notes. And there's lots of them. Offers extra credit points if you don't miss classes.
Krohn is amazing. He really knows his stuff and knows how to keep the class engaged. His tests are difficult if you don't study from the text book's website (lots of good study materials: quizzes, flash cards, etc). You must read the book to get an A in this class!
LOVE THIS CLASS!! Krohn is awesome! If you read the book, you'll do fine on the tests! 2 points extra credit if you come to ever lecture (passes attendance sheet around). Doesn't put notes online and they are kind of lengthy. Overall interesting class and great professor. Taking more classes taught by him in future.
Funny and great professor. Tests were kind of tough. If you want to do well, there's a good bit of reading involved in the textbook. He doesn't allow computers, so you can't type your notes (which sucks because there are a lot). He offers extra credit if you don't miss class. Would definitely recommend.
Some people love Krohn, I personally didn't. You can't use technology and you basically just take hand notes for an hour. He's dry (although has some dry humor) so it gets boring at times. Tests are the whole grade and most of it comes from the book not the lecture notes. Not my personal fave.
Was a great teacher but his notes are more like essays so get ready to be writing a lot in class. He had 2 tests and 3 papers. Definitely turn in the paper early for feedback before submitting the final draft because that really helps you know what you're doing rightwrong and boosted my grade. Random attendance checks for extra credit.
I loved this class. The trip to the jail is fun, and the material is really interesting. The book is a little boring to read, but not as bad as some others. I think Dr. Krohn is really funny, and he really loves what he does. I would definitely recommend taking this class.
The class is not easy, you have to read and pay attention in class. Krohn uses his lectures and material in the book not covered in class for his tests. But he really loves the subject and makes it interesting to learn about. There is an option jail field trip- take it! Randomly checks attendance for extra credit.
I didn't do a lot of reading for the first two tests and my grade suffered. You must attend lecture AND do the reading if you hope to do well in this class. However, I love Krohn and am looking forward to taking him next semester. He really engages you in the topic and is hilarious. Even considering adding it on as a minor.
Krohn is a pretty straight forward guy. The only grades he gives are 4 unit test, including the final. While the final is cumulative, each test is tough if you aren't a heavy studier. You can skip his class and still do well if you read. However, some tests are 30% lecture, 70% book and the next may be 90% lecture, 10% book.
4 tests, final is not cumulative. No homework but you have to do the reading to get an A. The textbook is interesting so it's not bad. His notes can be long but he's hilarious and we watched a few videos/documentaries. He takes attendance randomly and you can get extra credit at the end for not missing. Easy A if you try a little bit.
Class was extremely entertaining. Not for those who have a poor sense of humor, but fun. Tests are not hard, provided you do study for them. His sense of humor is very dry, but makes the class entertaining. All the notes are given in class, but expect to see material out of the book on the exams. Great class, would take again.
Each test is worth 25% of your grade. He takes attendance about every class but sometimes neglects to do so. If you have perfect attendance you get 2 extra points on your FINAL grade in the class. That helped me make an A-. He made me laugh a lot and was always eager to answer any questions! Super cool guy!
I absolutely loved this class; it was tough for me but I really enjoyed the lectures, and Krohn's personality. You write *a ton*, but I thought overall it was a good, interesting class to take.
Dr. Krohn is honestly one of my favorite teachers I've had. He makes lectures funny and engages with the class. Participation is taken @ random and can only help you for extra credit. His tests aren't that difficult but prepare to study lots of material. It's also good to have/ read the textbook. I would highly recommend him!
Krohn is a good professor in that he is very knowledgeable and explains things well. However, I found him very cynical. Combined with the fact that you have to hand write everything, the class can feel pretty long. Definitely don't take on Tuesday Thursday like I did. Random attendance, extra credit if you're there every time.
This class has a lot of theories and application. Tests are multiple choice, but aren't the easiest. Attending lectures is a MUST. Dr. Krohn is a great professor who is passionate about what he does. He provides you with all the materials necessary to pass in lecture! Make sure to go over the book too.
I took SOCI 1101 and 3150 with him and loved both classes. He is a great lecturer and he makes the material easy to understand. If you take good notes, you'll be set for the exams (although I suggest doing the reading as well.) He requires attendance, but if you show up everyday, you receive two points tacked onto your final grade. Highly recommend
JD is a great class. krohn has a great sense of humor and i enjoyed his lectures. show up, take good notes and skim the textbook and u will do well. miss no classes and u get 2 bonus points to final grade
Prof Krohn is great. Class grade based on 4 tests- final isn't cumulative. All tests are 50 multiple choice questions from the book and from lecture. EC for attendance, but you need to get the notes because he won't post them. To make an A, you need the online study tool from the book. Not too hard. Interesting and dry humor- applies SOCI to life.
Definitely need to read the book in order to make an A, because some of the test questions are from the book. You need to know everything, including people, statistics, etc. The tests aren't that bad, but since they are just 50 multiple choice questions, and there are only 4 exams, you need to study for each exam!
Very funny and knowledgeable. However, his exams are ridiculous. The exam material is inconsistent with class lectures and textbook material. Many questions seem to be random, and something that many would deem unimportant. You can study rigorously and take notes from the text and still make a B - which is very irritating and disappointing.
Professor Krohn is hilarious, he does take attendance but his lectures are so interesting I've enjoyed attending (plus there's extra credit if you go to all the classes). He doesn't post his lectures online though. There are only 4 exams but if you know the information they really aren't too hard (plus they're online). Highly recommend this class!
Professor Krohn was one of my favorite professors in college. I kept the textbook for this class because the material and the way he presents it was so interesting.
Gives you extra credit if you go to all of the classes. Super interesting class. Amazing teacher.
One of my favorite professors. He is so caring. He also has a great sense of humor and makes class enjoyable. Attendance is mandatory, but you get extra credit for attending all or most classes. The tests are timed an taken on a computer, but quizlet is your friend. I would 100% take a class again.
Dr. Krohn is pretty laid back. He's passionate about his subject but pretty much the whole class is only lectures and a few documentaries. You're pretty much only graded on tests, and he takes attendance almost every class. His tests are pretty easy, but read the book that's required. He pulls questions out of it. All in all, would highly reccomend
Professor Krohn was by far my favorite professor of the semester. He sets clear guidelines and expectations, and has very engaging lectures. His course only has four exams as the only grades, but he does offer extra credit if you attend every lecture.
He's very interesting, funny, and laid back. You only have four exams, which are easy as long as you read the assigned chapters (but there's a lot of reading.) He also offers review sessions before every test. All in all, he makes class interesting, the content is easy, not many grades, and you get extra credit for attending all the lectures.
Professor Krohn is super chill. His lectures are pretty entertaining, plus attendance is just for extra credit. Just make sure you do well on the tests and you'll be fine.
Dr. Krohn is a great professor. His lectures can be very interesting, and he can be very funny. His tests are online and are relatively easy. Anything said in the lectures or in the book is fair game for the tests. He gives extra credit for attendance. Most people shouldn't have trouble getting at least an A-. Overall would highly recommend.
All of the tests for this class are online, which makes them very easy to use your notes or other outside sources to help you. He also is such a nice and funny professor which makes you want to go to class. Also, you can earn up to 2 bonus points on your final grade just by attending class. HIGHLY recommend for an easy A.
Krohn is the bomb. His class is all lectures but they're actually very interesting and he has a great sense of humor. Tests are all online and take home. Showing up to class gets you extra credit for your final semester grade, so I would recommend going. Take this class!
Nice guy. Interesting lectures. Grade is from 3 exams and the final (equal weight). Solid choice for a core social science class!
I really enjoyed Introductory Sociology with Krohn. The only grades he takes are the four test (no final) and attendance. He will give you extra credit if you attend class frequently. He presented the information in an easy-to-understand way, however, he still challenges you to think.
Professor Krohn is a great lecturer and makes the content interesting and easy to learn. Class attendance is taken, but if you get 0-2 absences you get 2 pts added to final grade. Class has no technology policy, and is very notes heavy so get ready to write. Test are online out of class and very easy. Would definitely take again!
I love todd. this is my second semester at UGA and this has been my favorite class here, and he has been my favorite professor. definitely take this class if you can
Todd is AMAZING!! His lectures are very interesting, and tests are extremely easy (if you have Quizlet on hand.) Attendance is random but isn't necessarily counted against you unless you miss half of the lectures. All tests are on eLC and outside of class, so it's open resource.
Really great and to the point, he has fairly easy tests that are online so you can take them anywhere- you only need to study a little. He suggests that you buy the textbook but you can go without it, although it is an interesting read if youre into sociology.
Great professor. Online tests. You wont regret taking this class with Krohn.
Krohn is gonna be ur best option for SOCI1101. Class is very easy, and all tests are online. If you show up to all classes, you get a 2 point boost added to ur final grade. You need a 94 to get an A but its totally do able, especially if you attend all lectures. Plus, hes a very funny! He makes lectures not boring and interesting.
I loved Dr. Krohn. He is a genuinely nice person who is very sarcastic in a funny way. You can tell he really knows what he is talking about, and he does an excellent job in explaining things with statistics and examples. It was also so interesting and valuable. The tests and final are online which is a bet. Bottom line: TAKE THIS CLASS.
Professor Krohn is awesome. He is absolutely hilarious and his lectures are very interesting. The tests are all online and if you don't skip class you get 2 points added to your overall grade. Definitely take him.
The lectures are really straightforward and interesting, but just be prepared to write A LOT. Some days he'll show a documentary instead of taking notes. The presentations are not available online and he takes attendance most classes, so going to class is important. Tests are online and not hard if you take good notes. Class discussion encouraged.
Most of the lectures do not directly correlate with the textbook chapters assigned. He doesnt mention the textbook at all during class, but expects you to read it because 15% of the exam questions come from the book without any review of the concepts/examples in class.
Krohn is one of the best profs I've hadsuper funny and gives engaging lectures. Tests are all online and aren't hard as long as you take notes. Gives EC for attending class, so I'd highly recommend trying to go every session. You can't go wrong with taking him! (:
BEST CLASS AND PROFESSOR AT UGA. The lectures were so fun because everything you learn is interesting and useful. The tests are online so find some friends and make an A on all of them! You don't have to read, but the book is great and definitely helps with the tests. He takes attendance but if you can't make it you will still get a great grade.
I'd say take Krohn anytime you get. The quizzes are trickier than you think, but they're online and if you stop to read them carefully, you won't get tripped up. Didn't buy the textbook 'cause it's suuuper expensive, but if you come to class every day (attendance is basically mandatory), you don't need it. Graded on discussion q's as well.
Inadvertently sold my soul to this NIGHTMARE of a class. Unless you want WEEKLY quizzes that cover 100-150 densely packed textbook pgs, test minute detail, and are designed to trick you, save yourself!!! Writing-intensive discussions bi-weekly. Fast pace + technology ban carpal tunnel and incomplete class notes. V stressed & unhappy all semester.
Only take this class for CJ req. You have out of class quizzes every week and lots of textbook reading. You can only take written notes in class (can take pics) and he talks really fast. Quizzes are 80% of grade. I would recommend typing notes later to key search during the quiz. He is so nice and funny though! I put it A LOT of work and got an A.
Only take this class if you have to. A is doable but hard. You just have to only do bad on a couple quizzes, get As on all the rest, go to every class and write long discussion posts with lots of citations. Quiz questions are so specific even if you read the text its hard to get a 100 and nobody understood the grading on short answers.
Despite never being able to meet Professor Krohn in person, I found him to be an extremely reasonable and understanding teacher. He was extremely approachable and fair when I had computer difficulties, and I could tell that he genuinely cares about the success of his students. The class was very thought-provoking. 10/10 would recommend.
Krohn is great, really, but this class is exam heavy (8 quizzes 80% of your grade), so doing okay on a few will screw up your grade. I didn't use the textbooks since they're pretty expensive, but the notes were useful and I did pretty well with them. Just read every question carefully, is what I'll say. Discussions (5 of them) are worth 20%.
I really like Dr. Krohn as a person but I hate his class. He is super funny and isn't afraid to crack a joke during class. His class is very lecture heavy and there are only four tests, one of them being the final. There is normally one chapter due every week from the textbook but one chapter is around 30 pages with tiny font.
Krohn's lectures were very interesting and he made the material fun to learn about. Textbook isn't required but lots of questions do come from the book. Your grade is made up of 4 exams divided equally but they're online and open note. As long as you attend lectures and skim the chapters you'll be fine. Krohn is a funny and well respected professor
Great lectures and funny guy, but only grades are 4 tests. If you take this class be prepared to read the chapters because a lot of test content comes from the book and is never mentioned in class. Using the Inquisitive website that comes with the book made a huge difference. Reading chapters+Inquisitive took me from a 76 on my first test to a 98
Love this dude. The lectures are so interesting and he cares about his students. Lots of the test questions come from the textbook. This man was the sole reason I woke up on tuesdays and thursdays (even in online lectures).
Todd is great. He is funny and engaging in class, and the content is interesting. Would have liked this class more if only four tests didn't make up my grade and I didn't need a 94 average to get a 4.0 in this class. He also took away the extra credit opportunity for us cause our class was a hybrid so he couldn't keep track of who came to class.
Professor Krohn was really funny and his class was really interesting. The class id definitely lecture heavy but he makes it entertaining and it is easy to do well in his class. There is no homework, which means that your grades depend on how well you do on his exams. His class was one of my favorites though!
Krohn made this class awesome! Attendance was mandatory, but you won't want to miss his lectures because they are so interesting. Im taking one of his criminology courses next semester because I liked his class so much. Definitely take his class if you can
Lectures were very interesting - really got me interested in thinking more about sociology and the world around us. No homework because you're graded on 3 tests and a final, but the tests are open note and the lowest test is dropped. Would 100% recommend for anyone who needs a social science class for credit.
He's a pretty darn good prof. We were one of the only classes this semester to be entirely in person and he took advantage of it. Really good lectures, brings up super interesting factoids. Grade is only 4 exams and are really easy, class averages were all 90+.
I took this class online so I had virtually no interaction with the prof but the way he organized the online course was really clear, easy, and manageable. This was my first fully online class and it was one of the easiest Ive taken. Plus, the class material was super interesting.
Do not be fooled by the rest of these positive reviews. This class is a nightmare. Up to 12 hours of work a week. There are weeks when we have 200+ pgs of reading, a discussion post that demands five responses all 150 words each, 2 hr documentary, and quiz. The Red & Black article "Overloaded virtual classes prohibit student growth" is about him.
This course was the hardest course I have taken at this University. The extremely heavy workload does not compare to the workload that generally comes with a 3000-level class. We had to read around 200 pages of textbook every week, watch videos, listen to podcasts and write a discussion post and reply to five different people. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Avoid taking this class online if you can. Professor Krohn assigns an ABSURD amount of work every week and ignores any concerns raised by students. The material is interesting but there is just so much of it. 2 required textbooks, grade based on 8 tests and 4 discussion posts (with a crazy amount of required replies)
Great guy but this class was terrible. It was online so he basically just gave us 200 textbook pages to read every 2 weeks with a quiz and long discussion post on hour long documentaries. A completely unnecessary amount of reading and work for a class like this.
Do not take this class unless you are ready to do a ton of work. There is soooo much reading and you are graded by 8 quizzes and 4 discussions. That is it. Honestly quizzes are fair and pretty easy but come with like 2 textbook chapters and 5 articles to read + notes + documentary and 5 responses for the discussions.
I don't think this class was *hard* but I think the workload was absolutely absurd. To get an A in this course I felt like I emptied my braincells every week writing an absurd amount of discussion posts. Don't take this course unless you enjoy pointless busy work. Content was cool, workload insane.
The important messages and info from this course was drowned out by pointless busywork and absurd grading criteria on discussion posts. The workload was ridiculous and harmful to my other courses this sem, don't take this class if you're looking for an easy intro course. It's easy but way too much work.
He is not nearly as bad as others say he is. Although there is a LOT of reading, I thoroughly enjoyed his class and found it to be generally easy. There is a lot of textbook readings that can be upwards of 100 pages, but it is easy material. The overall grade is based on a few discussions and quizzes. He is really kind and helpful!
There was a lot of work for the class, but it wasn't that bad. He was really nice and I felt that the discussions were graded fairly. The quizzes have a lot of information from the textbook so definitely be sure to read. It was really interesting and I liked the class a lot. It really isn't hard as long as you review the information and readings!
Love Professor Krohn, unfortunately my experience with him is minimal since it was an online class. Very interesting material and wasn't very time consuming. Quizzes/discussions are not very hard, grades really depend on the TA. He is very understanding however and brought multiple of my grades up when I had him read over what the TA's graded.
Professor Krohn has been around for a while. That being said, he's informative, diligent, and cares about his students.
I took his Criminology class online and loved it. There is a ton of reading so expect to spend some time with that. He provides additional notes and those were sooo helpful. So long as you care about the class and do your work, you should get an A.
Professor Krohn is an amazing lecturer. This class is fully lecture based, and then 4 test grades determine your grade. It's important to not only attend class, but also complete the readings outside of class as the tests are based off questions for both. This was my favorite class this semester. Professor Krohn can make anything interesting!
The class is pretty easy if you show up to class, get the notes, and study. He is kind of annoying about attendance, and will only post the slides at the end of the unit, and if you miss 3 or more classes, he docks your grade. The class is super lecture heavy and note heavy. He also assigns 50 page readings for every test.
Super easy class. Only 4 tests (each 25% of grade). Take this class for an easy A. Professor was well informed and tests were easy.
Awesome Sociology survey class. No curve balls. Lecture, book, and 4 tests. Lectures are interesting and crystal clear. You will learn a lot. Professor has a great dry sense of humor but you have to listen carefully for those jokes and puns. Sit up front and lean into this class and you will get an A.
Todd Krohn was a great prof. Easy to talk to and the class was super easy. He also is really interested in what he teaches, which is nice. The textbook is free online. It is a lot of reading, but it helps you understand the content. Only exam and attendance based.
This class is pretty easy. Attendance is taken every day and his lectures have put me to sleep multiple times. There are only 4 tests and that is all of your grade. They are all online and 50 minutes for 50 questions, but pretty straight forward. Definitely not the most interesting class, but you don't need to put a lot of work into it to pass.
TAKE THE CLASS!! Professor Krohn has been the best professor I have had at UGA when it comes to teaching content. Even as a STEM major I enjoyed the class. It was easy and as long as you take notes on his lectures you'll do great!! Only 4 tests including the final (all online). No other assignments except attendance.
This is a super easy class and has no homework besides reading the textbook. Attendance is taken everyday, but good attendance will add points to your grade at the end of the semester. Lectures are fairly interesting, but sometimes can be long. I recommend taking this class for sure.
Really enjoyed this class. I recommend it if you need a social science credit. It's just four tests all open notes. He lectures the entire class, but the material is generally interesting. You can get extra credit towards your overall grade if you attend all of his classes.
Attendance is required, but XC for perfect or near perfect attendance. easy online open note tests. Lectures are not the most engaging, but an easy A. Overall pretty good. I recommend making a friend in the class as that helps the time fly by.
Professor Krohn is chill and interesting for the most part. Read from the slides during class with some videos and anecdotes here and there. Gives an extra 2 points to your grade if you attend all the lectures. Tests average 3-4 chapters with an average of 50 pages each, and your grade is comprised of 4 tests, each 25% of your grade.
I thoroughly enjoyed his class. The grade is comprised of 4 tests and an attendance grade that can add points to your final grade if you don't miss any classes. I was late quite a few times since it was an early class, but if you miss the attendance sheet you can sign it after class. He makes it very interesting and funny and tests are open note.
Easy class with a good professor. Can't go wrong choosing him.
His class seems overwhelming at first, mostly because his lectures are hundreds of slides and you're only graded on a few quizzes and discussion posts. But once you get past this intimidation Professor Krohn was really good- he explains things well, he keeps students up to date all the time, and he seems understanding. Class wasn't bad at all.
Krohn is a straightforward teacher; there's 4 (online/open note) tests and an attendance policy that can add to your overall grade. There are SO many lecture slides, as everyone has said, but this is a great class to bump your GPA up with an easy A. Krohn isn't the most engaging teacher, but his office hours are pretty open. He has a TA as well.
super easy class, great professor. he wasn't the most interesting but his class was super easy. online tests, attendance for extra credit. i paid no attention in class and didn't study for anything and still did well.
Attendance sign in sheet passed around every class, you get extra credit for attending. Slides posted online after the unit is over. Graded by 4 exams, multiple choice, open note, online. "Final" exam is 100 questions instead of 50 but not cumulative. Make sure to have the textbook because some test questions come straight from the book. Take him!
The way he speaks during his lectures keeps you engaged and entertained. Lots of lecture slides, but you really don't need to take notes on everything. All tests are open note and there are no other assignments. If you miss more than 50% of lectures, then you get 4 points taken off of your grade, so make sure you attend! Super funny guy
Prof. is super insightful, real, funny, and (I hate using this word but) "woke". Like he really opened my eyes to many perspectives and presents everything very honestly, which some people may not like to hear, but it was refreshing to have a prof that is real like that. Attendance isn't req. but u get extra cred if you go enough. Tests aren't bad.
Grade is entirely dependent on 4 semi-cumulative, open book exams. Lectures are interesting and engaging. Missing attendance can dock your grade 5 points, but perfect attendance can boost it 2 points. Fairly straight-forward class. Took it alongside rigorous courses, and it provided me a nice break in my day. Cool guy, interesting material, easy A.
Not a hard class. The grade is based on 4 tests. I would recommend going to every class because you will get a 2-point bonus to your grade at the end of the year.
great professor - only grades are 4 exams including final all online. makes lectures interesting & funny. only extra credit is for attendance so go to class. would take again - super fun guy
This class was an easy A. There are 4 exams, each worth 25% of your grade, and the questions come straight from his lecture slides which he posts before the exam. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you show up to every class you get extra credit and if you miss over half the classes you get points taken off. Overall recommend.
One of my fav professors, lecture topics are interesting and he's a good talker. Attendance is mandatory, you get a gpa boost if you attend a majority of lectures and a gpa decrease if you miss more than half. Grade based on 3 tests which are online and easy. Tests consist of lecture-specific content and content from the textbook readings.
GREAT CLASS! Professor Krohn is laid back, and his course is very easy. Attendance is necessary, but you can get extra credit on your final grade for perfect attendance. There are only 4 tests but they are extremely easy!
There is a lot of reading assigned, as well as occasional documentaries that are at least an hour long, but the class itself is so interesting. Quizzes and discussions are not too difficult, especially because they are often opinion-based questions.
TAKE A CLASS WITH HIM! I seriously do not care about ratemyprofessor ratings so for me to come on here to rate him means a lot! He gives you bonus points on your final grade for coming to class, Online quizzes (no tests), he gives good lectures that are so interesting, went out of his way to schedule a Clarke County Jail tour for our class. BEST
He is so easy and his lectures were fun. There are only four tests and they are all online. They were easy and you don't have to get the textbook to do good on the tests. Attendance is mandatory. I would definitely take him again.
I love him! One of the best professors I've ever had. He understands if you need to miss class. Go to office hours because he's an incredible resource for CJ majors. Lectures are funny & super in-depth & interesting 8 online open note quizzes and 4 discussions are graded. You get extra credit for attending most lectures. I hope to take him again!
he is hilarious and great for this class! super knowledgable and you can tell he really just wants everyone to learn, even in a large lecture. the class is graded on 4 online exams, each 25%. attendance isn't mandatory, just don't miss more than half the lectures or you'll lose points, but there's bonus points for only missing a few lectures
This class is only 4 tests, and you can get extra credit by attending. If you miss more than half the lectures, you'll lose points in the class. Show up, take some notes, study for half an hour maybe - tests were open note. Krohn made this intro class an easy A, and I appreciated it. Make sure you have a copy of the textbook for references.
The information learned throughout this class I will take with me for the rest of my life. Extremely valuable class to take, also easy A. All 4 tests are online. He is a super caring teacher and teaches such important information. Take him!!
Lectures were long and not very engaging, but it is clear that he is passionate about the content. Definitely take this class if you are interested in the material. Tests are not easy but are not unmanageable either.
Nice guy, interesting class. Lectures are boring at times. Attendance is taken, but you only lose points if you miss more than half the lectures. 4 tests are the only grades. they are open note and pretty easy.
Krohn is a great professor to take if you want an easy class. However, his lectures and the textbook readings are long and boring at times. There are four online exams (including the final) taken in a 1.50-hour window. Attendance is mandatory, but you can miss half of the lectures and still do well in the class.
Really cool professor, caring, and pretty funny in his lectures, so even if you're not interested, you'll have a nice class period. Attendance in mandatory, no abscences results in 2 extra points to your letter grade. If you have any issues, email him, he's very communicative and clear to work with. Only graded off of 3 tests. Easy class overall.
Lectures are interesting if you enjoy learning about sociology. Krohn is cool and likes to make jokes. Grade ice based off 4 tests. I recommend!
While the lectures are very lengthy and consist of a lot of information, SOCI 1011 was a pretty easy class! All of the slides are uploaded before the exams. There are four total exams (one of which is the final) are online and open note. Study the slides, read the textbook, and show up to class (2 points added if there are no unexcused absences)
BEST PROF EVER. Literally said on the 1st day that the class was an easy A. Just 4 online at home multiple choice tests. You get extra cred for going to class, but only shirts your grade if you miss more than half of the classes, so go to most classes and you're fine. Lectures are engaging and interesting, couldn't recommend him more!
Don't take this class if you cannot type quickly. I spend all class typing notes and still don't get everything (slides are just words) The notes are important for the quizzes so you need to write them down. He posts slides before the quiz but I still have to copy and paste 10+ slides because I give up in class since it is too fast.
Professor Krohn is great. He goes a little fast during lectures but he posts the slides right before the exams so you can copy down all the things you missed. The content is interesting and he played 2-3 very interesting documentaries in class. The only grades in the class are 4 tests which can sound a little scary but they are relatively easy.
He's a nice guy and funny. His lectures are mid and no one pays attention. Grades are 4 tests averaged together. Tests taken at home but heavily timed. The tests are half based from the lecture and half from the textbook so make sure you read. The class is fine but the tests make it hard. Bonus points if you are at every lecture.
Krohn is the best. He's hilarious and makes lectures interesting, he also cares about his students and wants to help you. I learned so much in his class and thought he did a great job. Quizzes are online and open note, easy A and you will learn a lot. Take this class.
Krohn is awesome and super engaging. There is 4 tests total which are all online with no lockdown browser. Attendance is mandatory but you can get a friend to sign you in because it's just a sheet of paper. His lectures are entertaining and he cares about students and the content.
Easy A. Attendance is mandatory. Tests all taken at home and are very easy. All you have to do is go to class and have common sense on the tests.
Professor Krohn's class was really interesting. It was definitely lecture-heavy, but he keeps the class entertaining. The class was based on four tests, and there is a textbook that is required. Read the textbook a while in advance! The chapters are very long, and reading them is vital to doing well on the exams!
this man is so great he's my favorite teacher i've ever had. he is so kind and he lectures well. you're graded on 4 exams, each online and open note (super easy) and i wasn't even taking notes after october and still ended with an A-. the class is super chill and you get easy extra credit for attending all the lectures (give or 2 days).
Hilarious guy. Handled some tough subjects with a lot of respect and care. Great lectures, and a quiz due each week, but nothing too bad. Textbooks made quizzes easier but they are not technically required.
Professor Krohn is an amazing professor. His lectures are very engaging, and his subtle humor is awesome. He has been one of my favorite professors at the University. Attendance isn't technically mandatory, but if you miss more than 50% of the lectures, you lose 5 points on your final grade. Definitely worth taking, good A.
Love him!! Def one of my favorite classes that I've taken at UGA. Your grade is 100% based on tests but they are relatively easy. Tests are online taken at home but very heavily timed and half the questions are from the textbook so google doesn't really help. Super funny guy and overall a very interesting class!
Interesting lecturer. Attendance mandatory, but he keeps it interesting and offers good extra credit for not missing any lectures. Grade based on 4 tests but Tests are all online, he recommends textbook and its mentioned on tests but not entirely necessary. Would definitely recommend.
dr. krohn is probably my favorite professor ever!!! the course work is interesting on its own, but he does a great job of delivering it. there is a lot of reading, but the quizzes are still very manageable and straightforward if you pay attention in class. the discussions are also easy and helpful. highly recommend!!!!!
Overall, Dr. Krohn was an amazing professor and the best sociology professor! His class is composed of four tests, which are taken at home online, and they are very easy. Professor Krohn has a big passion for sociology, and this passion made the lectures interesting. This class is a super easy A, and I recommend taking this course.
Dr. Krohn presents the material in such an engaging and awesome way. You can miss up to 50% of classes with no penalty, but if you miss none you get +2 to your final GPA. Graded by 4 online tests (25% each) with questions from the lectures and the textbook. He posts the slides before each test. Super awesome class and easy A.
Good professor overall, as far as the course structure goes, the entire grade is based off of 4 exams with a two point boost for near perfect attendance. There is a textbook used for this course, buy the extended edition otherwise you wont have the last several chapters (entire unit of material). If you show up to class and read you should be fine.
Professor Krohn is amazing! He makes the lectures very engaging even when the material can be dry. He handles a lot of difficult topics very well. There are 8 quizzes and 4 discussion posts; there is a lot of textbook reading too. READ THE ASSIGNED CHAPTERS!! There are many questions on the quizzes that can only be found in the reading. Take him!
Krohn was an awesome professor through and through. His lectures were very engaging and interesting, and the class is based on 4 online tests (no lockdown browser). The exams are straightforward. You only have to go to 50% of the classes to get full attendance credit.
This class is interesting and straightforward. Lots of reading some weeks (but usually its fair and can prob skip.) Each week you have a quiz about that week's reading and slideshow. 1 discussion post due every two weeks. He does open the modules early so you can get a jump on the readings. I enjoyed the discussion posts and the FRQs on the quizzes
You can tell he loves what he teaches. lots of dad humor so the lectures are interesting. Attendance is mandatory but also used as extra credit. There are only 4 tests which consist of things from the lectures and from the textbook. Lectures are not posted until 2-3 days before the test so going is encouraged
This class is pretty easy; classes are only lectures and homework is only reading. The tests are all fairly easy, and they are open-note and online. The topic is really interesting, and Dr. Krohn is a good speaker. The only part of this class that was difficult at times was the large amount of reading, but it's not excessive at all.
Just take him. 4 online exams with no lockdown, and he makes lecture so fun and interesting. LOVE HIM.
Todd Krohn is awesome! Attendance is randomly taken, and extra credit is given for attending a certain % of classes. The grading is clear, and made up of discussion posts and quizzes. He's also so funny! Lectures and class discussions.
