I love going to Mr. Lintons math class. Not only is he a great teacher he is funny, helpful and a genius. Very nice on the eyes as well! As long as you are willing to put the effort in he will do anything he can to help you out!
Great teacher.I didn't know anything going in and got a solid foundation for next math class.May come across as tough to weed out kids but explains well several dif. ways.all tests and quizzes are from homework -open notes. Great method of teaching math lingo.Very clear no surprises. Just do homework and you'll pass with flying colors and learn.
Calc 1, my favorite class. All around brilliant guy, one of the best math professors I've ever had, but must say the coursework is VERY challenging. You must be dedicated to putting the time and effort in, otherwise you will not succeed. He loves questions, always very helpful, and is pretty easy going.
I enjoyed professor Lintons class. He made it very easy to pass. All exams came straight from our homework. On top of that we had access to our homework while taking the exams. So do your homework and you will pass! He is extremely helpful if you ask a question. I would certainly take this professor again. He is very intelligent and knows his stuff
Great Professor. A lot of homework but comes in handy. You can use your hw for his exams he gives. He is very knowledgeable in mathematics. Learned a lot in this professors class. Highly recommend him!
seriously he wants to much homework. You cant use hw in exams. you have 3-4 hrs of hw a night. 15 vocabwords per chap, must know word for word. Take home exam, along with a reg. exam. an online hw also, book work all is due ea. chap. better off taking the Math LAB. He requires way to much hw... DO NOT RECOMMEND IF YOU ARE TAKIN OTHER CLASSES.
Very challenging professor. Motivated and very approachable.
I Love this teacher, he is firm but will explain everything you ask about.
Great teacher. He does expect a ton of work though, and tends to give extremely challenging problems. You end up learning alot in the process, and he is very approachable for help. If you're interested in an easy grade, stay away. If you're interested in learning the material thoroughly, I'd highly recommend him. Wish I could take him for Calc II
Extremely demanding class. I spent 25+ hours a week on the homework. Learned a lot but the requirements are overwhleming.
Extremely tough and demanding professor. I was prepared to do as much work as possible but this guy was a little much. He's rude also. And memorizing definitions for a math class makes no sense. I spoke with another math professor about him and they were appalled that he had his students doing that. He wastes valuable time.
Great teacher. He does expect a ton of work, understand what you learn and tends to give extremely challenging problems. You end up learning alot in the process, and he is very approachable for help. If you're interested in an easy grade, stay away. If you're interested in learning the material thoroughly, I'd highly recommend him.
great math teacher! I have never liked math and always struggled. He explained everything in detail, sometime overly so, but will be more than happy to give extra help. I was so well prepared for the next math class that i didnt even need to study! Great class!
This class is A LOT of work... But I actually enjoyed it. Linton is approachable and funny. Class could get boring but it's stats! Love his way of giving tests - only take home. Although they are a ton of work, you really get to learn the material. Great teacher.
I have always struggled with math but this is the first time it has made sense. He is not an easy professor, you have to work for your grade but if you have a question or need help he is there. Lessons are easy to follow and there are ample ways to do well. Uncommited students be warned, you have to very disciplined to take his course.
Do not take Todd Linton for this class. To much work and very arrogant and doesn't know much about anything. Definitions, come on.
Excellent Teacher - I am NOT a great math student however, I was willing to put in the work to get a good grade. This teacher will match you with effort. If you are really trying he will make sure you understand. This subject is hard period but without this teacher's help notes clarity, I wouldn't have been able to succeed. Be ready to work though.
Horrible teacher doesnt know what hes doing. wants to much work. memorizing definitions on top of the work is ridiculous. He grades terrible you need a 126 for an A+ 112 B+ 98 C+ like come one now that's bad. I recommend you take another teacher or take math lab.
RUN! Started off with 21 students 5 made it through. Gives to much HW for one class and taught us stuff that does not belong in 0600.
Hard teacher and a lot of work.. But I needed that. I have been out of school for so long and I'm glad he was my professor! People complain about the vocabulary he makes us learn but it was very helpful and it made me understand math on a new level. Hard work pays off in his class and attendance is important. Ty prof Linton you are a great teacher!
If you want to learn math and learn it well, take this guy. He's straightforward: show up and do the work, and you'll pass. The grading system is easy to understand: yes you need at least a 126 on a test to get an A...a 126 out of 140. He also drops the lowest test score. I got an A in the class, but I definitely had to earn it! Do the work!!
Great professor who makes statistics enjoyable to learn. Learning the class' material is no easy feat, but his lectures and handouts clarify a lot of confusing aspects of it. His exams are challenging, but feel rewarding once you have deciphered what the questions are specifically asking. Be prepared to do the work, and you'll pass the class!
This class in NOT easy but it is rewarding, fun, and interesting. Todd is good natured, willing to go over the examples numerous times both in class and out. I do recommend a tutor if you are not good in math. It helps with the take homes and to solidify your knowledge. The key to passing the class is take the time to do all of the homework!
WORST TEACHER EVER! So miserable and rude. Don't teach if you don't like it, we are paying for our education. He hands out a piece of paper at the beginning of the semester with definitions and these questions that have nothing to do with math! The questions will be on all of the quizzes and will loose points if wrong, total idiot!
If you are lazy, have a weak foundation in math, or expect a good grade just for showing up –stay away. However, if you are willing to work, this is the right professor for you. He is not easy, but if you take the challenge, your math skills will improve twofold. I only wish he could be teaching at the four-year institution I currently attend.
Firm and fair. Expect a lot of work. He expects clear and concise answers using the right terminology. The class transferred as QBA1. The exams were all take home, so a higher level of proficiency was expected. He loves baseball stats, so be ready to learn about it. All around a great guy, use his office hours to your benefit.
Horrible professor !! Professor Linton was not helpful at all and gave assignments that people in calc could not complete. I passed the classes but it was extremely difficult.
You really have to be ready to learn. As the semester goes on you understand how he is with grading things. He prepares you for anything you will need to know for the exam and does a great job teaching everything. Has helped in a great manner and anyone who needs help in math should take his class.
Mr. Todd Linton is the rude professor I have never seen before. Please don't take him for next semester. I want to tell somebody please don't take his class for Calculus I. Some his explain is not right. He is trick teacher and rude guide. thanks.
Great guy, he's really smart and really wants you to succeed. but if you don't respect him, he wont respect you. For my class, he gives u lots of hw but doesnt grade it but it's smart to do all of it. exams are literally copies of odd hw problems. only bad thing is he gives these SUPER hard take home exams that make you work hard to get it right.
To this day, one of the toughest classes I have ever taken. However, after taking this course, I understood math better than I ever have. Be prepared to put in the time and effort. If you do it will pay off. Ace the vocab, understand the material, and beware of the take home portion. ---Toughest part.
Okay, so Professo Linton is a good professor. Can't talk badly about a professor because of the work they give. He has you do the homework online, but he also gives paper homework which is very tough. The tests are also tough, but this class is one everyone should pass if they take. If you'd like to learn the subject fully, take the class.
HANDS DOWN THE WORST TEACHER EVER! HE BASICALLY TELLS YOU THAT YOU'RE GOING TO FAIL. IF YOU DON'T REMEMBER THE DEFINITION WORD FOR WORD, YOU GET THE WHOLE THING WRONG. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
An amazing professor. He loves math and is passionate about education. Ppl who have a hard time with him, do because they are not willing to put in the work it takes to be successful. In other words the only ppl who don't do well are lazy people. If you put in the work you will do well. He is tough but he is the best math professor I've had. Fair
Not only is there an outrageous amount of homework, but the quizzes and tests are half memorizing math vocabulary WORD FOR WORD. This is not a proper teaching method. Wastes class time messing up his own examples. If you must take this class, good luck! The semester you have class with this professor will be one of the worst.
Took this class in the summer, and it was by far the hardest thing I've ever done. However I don't regret doing it. Comprehension and understanding are important to this teacher, and I appreciate that. Prepare for many hours doing take home exams (and redoing them when you realize you've done it wrong) and memorizing definitions.
took this class in the summer, insanely hard! yes there is vocab, but its easy if you put the time in. tests/grading is VERY FAIR. difficult take home problems. took him once, now i am in calc 3 and am pumped to be in his class again. would rather a passionate teacher who is hard then a lazy teacher who is easy. if your serious, take this teacher.
Doesn't teach what needs to be taught, would rather lecture about how lazy people always fail and quite honestly put you down for not understanding what he says
If you have struggled with math before save yourself a stressful semester and pick another professor. Although he gives extra credit you will feel like you're not gonna pass all semester long. Extremely tough grader and treats the class like a english/math course. Don't do it.
Prof Linton is great, he has a different style which not a lot of people are used to. It was a tough class for me cos I was taking 4 other classes; but he's super passionate about his craft which is admirable. Yes, you have to learn WORD for WORD definitions from his handouts, but if you put in the time. You'll get the outcome you want. Be prepared
Please don't take him. The whole semester is presentation. you will get the bad grad or fail.
Please don't take him. The whole semester is presentation. you will get the bad grad or fail. please don't register to him.
Professor Linton is the best professor I've ever had. His class was challenging in terms of the work load but I learned more from doing it than I have ever learned in any class. He is always happy to help & makes himself available to students whenever needed! He is truly passionate about what he does! Take his courses if you are a serious student!
One of those professors that takes himself way too seriously. He constantly will rant about how everyone is going to fail the class. If you're two minutes late get ready to get ripped a new one. I took him for Calc 2 which is pretty hard but he made it virtually impossible. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR.
Had him for Calc 3. Worse decision I have ever made. This guy does not teach. He expected the students to do all the work and present lectures. DO NOT take calc 3 with him. You will thank me later. Students might say they passed his class but they didn't learn anything. they just memorized a bunch of definitions they will forget by next term.
Professor Linton tries hard however his style is not a good fit for all students. He fails to stay on topic and is rather degrading. His teaching style relies heavily on learning on your own. While knowledgeable, his teaching capacity is mediocre at best. With so many incredible professors at CCRI, I would refrain to recommend Professor Linton.
I took Professor Linton for Statistics -big mistake. Forget 2hrs of HW per 1hr in class, I averaged about 4hrs of HW (ie 16hrs per week). His grading options for in class quizzes are F, C, A - no scale. Take home exams of 15+ pages writing about stats. Very critical, condescending towards students. Worst class I've ever taken.
Professor Todd Linton was the rudest most difficult professor i've ever had. His take home exams were ridiculous. It was almost impossible to do all of his work to your full potential while attempting to finish other course work for other classes. If possible, do not take his classes ever, you will regret it.
Do not take any Math Classes with him. He is the worst professor at CCRI. He does not respect to anyone. Please and Please Do Not Take with Him.
His goal isn't to teach the subject matter but to make the learning process as difficult painful and terrible as possible. Avoid at all costs.
This guy is your wake up call. Do all the Online Homework/Vocab/Take-Home Exams. All the in class exams are questions from book homework. Don't take this class if you're winging your way through college or have a large work load already. This class will take most of your time. I would suggest it for students who want to further their math career.
if you want to stress day in and day out, do not take him! sure he teaches a lot of stuff that'll help you but he wants to cover so much in such little time that its overwhelming. seriously, dooo not take this professor for any math!
Really tough class with a lot of homework but professor was pretty funny and always willing to help if need be.
really makes you understand the material
Professor Linton is an outstanding professional. He has no time for those who can't handle work. If you are there to learn, not just pass, then he can teach you so much more than math. See all those people saying he's terrible? That's code for "I'm lazy and don't respect myself". If you work hard, and I mean really hard, you'll win in this class.
he showed me a new way to look at math. he is a great professor to take if you want to get a good foundation to build your mathematics skills up. he may give heavy work which seems impossible but its all to get you to start thinking in a different way . if you just want to pass a math class hes not your professor but if you want to truly learn math
I had prof. Linton for Statistics and this was clearly one of his favorite classes to teach. He incorporates outside real world topics to further explain statistics and is very approachable outside of class. A lot of students hate him because they don't want to put the effort in to prepare for his exams. You will learn so much more than stats.
Whenever i went to his office hours for help he gave me vague answers and never helped me. His take home quizzes are on average 30 hours a week. Great if your a math major, but i don't have time for that crap. My chemistry physics and engineering class is that much studying combined all together. By the last month of his course everyone drops it.
I enjoyed his life experience and the influence of real world data in our math class.
The first impression you get from this guy is that hes a hardass. I was enrolled in his summer statistics class up until about an hour ago when I thankfully dropped it. I just got home from day two of the summer semester and hes already assigned SO much homework, an unreasonable amount. For class TWO. Couldnt do it, will take the class at RIC
I had prof Linton for both college algebra and stats and he ran both classes pretty much the same. He will assign various homework problems throughout the week, and also a take home exam due every few weeks. The take home exams are very demanding. The only way to succeed in his classes are by prioritizing your time & utilizing his office hours.
listen guys this is the night before the final for me and I am still doing his work. I know the annoying people that are self righteous will say I'm lazy but I assure you that for the past month I've been doing 30 hours a week for this class and this past week well over 50. Don't take this class unless you are a math major, I warned you.
This is probably the most time consuming class I have ever taken in my life. I go home and spend about 4 hours of my life on just his homework not even including all the work I receive from other classes. Another thing is you can put your all into one homework and at the end of the day youll receive a D because you werent detailed enough.
Avoid this guy at ALL COSTS. Took his Stats 1 class & sadly had to withdraw bc I couldn't keep up with the amount of work. 30 hours of HW per week & you still get a poor grade. Will literally give a 0 on work even if you do everything correctly. Has rediculous standards. I feel as if he owes me the cost of the summer class I will now have to take.
Impossible amount of homework. Horrible teaching methods.
Exams are based on 3 things: book problems, take home exams that belong 2 grade level higher, and math vocab. Basically have to choose between the ungraded book problems for the exam, or do the graded (online) homework and take homes but be very under prepared for the actual exam. Hope you can teach yourself math. Too old school for his own good.
Hes the best professor ever. If you really want to learn and be ready for whats next take him. Be ready and focused, dont procrastinate.
Great teacher had a ton of fun in his class. Do all the work on time and show up to class everyday and you will pass the class. I would recommend clearing your schedule if you want to pass any of his classes. I would also recommend finding a friend in the class to help understand material. If I could give him a 10 I would.
You want to succeed you will have to work hard, but at the same time you will learn a ton.
Inspired teacher with special teaching method, he not only wants you to pass but more additionally trying to teach you a way of mathematical thinking in math. An abundant amount of homework and some of them are hard. If you want to pass that takes a lot of effort. BTW, get some friends in class that definitely relieve your stress in his course.
Easy class to pass if you do the work had him twice would take a class with him again. Genuinely cares if you pass.
This is the only calc teacher that will act like he doesnt know how to do the derive an equation. Ask him. Worst teacher Ive ever had, hardly a professor, professors do more than stand in a room with 5 year old take home exam printouts, and assign homework that does not come paired with correction later.. Pick any one else cc needs a substitute
His classes are almost incomprehensive. Extremely difficult. Seems like he does enjoy teaching, but he is very abusive toward students at times. He rushes through explaining and gives tons of homework. In fact, 3/4 of the class dropped before midterm. His classes usually become very small towards the end of the semester with max 6-7 students left.
I want this message to be crystal clear as you (the reader) are reading this. PLEASE (!!!I wish I could put this in bold print!!!) PLEASE do not take Calculus 2 (math 2142) with Professor Linton. This man was the ABSOLUTE WORSE PROFESSOR I have ever taken while at CCRI. Take it from me, i have scaled the math ladder all the way from the bottom 0500
I have had him twice and he gives a lot of homework. He scans the internet to make sure you are not cheating and basically abuses students, all of them, even if it's just one person cheating. He is extremely hard--asks for more than what homework asks and makes you explain every step. Granted, you learn a lot, but at the cost of your mental health.
Listen to the reviews, DROP THE CLASS. I took Calc 2 in the summer w Linton and easily the worst professor I have ever had. He's abusive and degrading if you don't understand or make mistakes. Mistakes in your homework? You get a 0 AND accused of cheating. Exams are ridiculous and unrelated to the homework. 50 hours a week? You'll still get a D.
Arguably one of the worst professors I have ever had the displeasure of taking the course with. Apart from being a rude, callous, and outright awful professor, he creates an atmosphere where you WILL be persecuted and punished for doing well in his class. He WILL accuse you of cheating if you finish his class early and WILL try to fail you. BEWARE!
Prof Linton is a fantastic Professor. He surprises you by how well you understand the material after watching the lectures and doing the hw. DEFINITELY not an easy A; he makes you work REALLY hard for a good grade, but he is VERY accessible outside class and willing to work with you. If you are willing to work, I cannot recommend highly enough.
I’m convinced Todd is a genius, best professor ever. By the way Todd is extremely conscious do no try to trick him lol.
I say this as one of the better-performing students: This person doesn't think. He overloads you with homework & has this annoying arbitrary format you have to use (It's math class. We need to draw graphs. SOME LINES WOULD BE NICE.) Overall seems to forget that the people he's teaching have lives and responsibilities outside of class.
You cannot have 4 other classes alongside his If you struggled with math before, switch out or you will fail 75% of the class is exams and while you can make up one exam, bad scores on 2 means you need perfect scores on the other exams Many writing assignments with hours and hours of work Does not give credit on work, not done right means you fail
He's a great guy but he gives mad work I know people who withdrawal and dropped out of this class because of how difficult it is
This professor was by far, The most difficult and abrasive professor I have had to come across. All he did was berate the class over mistakes he would label as "scrap-work" and if you have a learning disability, it doesn't matter. I have had bad anxiety attacks because of this class environment. Math is important to learn, but DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS
I have NEVER had a class that stressed me out and no matter how hard you try it is never enough and get this on homework assignments let's say if you have 30 questions on and you get 5 questions wrong so subtract 30-5 that's 25 now divide 25/30 and that gives you 0.8333 or a 83% this man gave me a 4/10 like i'm no math genius but what
Very concise lectures that go more in-depth than just the steps required to get an answer. Emphasized that assignments were for the students' sake, not his, and most weren't actually graded. Tried to inspire an interest in the subject and history of mathematics beyond just calculus. Best math teacher I've had, even if it was a difficult class.
He talks too fast during lecture which makes it hard to learn anything. The homework uses a website called ALEKS which is extremely frustrating. Always thinks students are not paying attention when they are just trying to catch up. He has his moments, but they are strongly overshadowed by his teaching methods.
He moves very quickly through lectures, and he will assign homework after every class, but he will only collect a couple of them. He is also a very abrasive man, often accusing the whole class of thinking negatively. His way of explaining something is by repeating the question multiple times angrily until you give up or figure it out.
Prepare to study hard
I have come back after graduating with my Bachelors in Civil Engineering 5 years later to warn you all about this "Professor". CCRI should seriously consider letting this professor go. This man will berate you, belittle you, and have no said respect for you as a student. Don't be a hero and ignore the numerous warnings about Todd. Boycott him!
i decided to be a hero
Dont take Calc I! Passionate about the class, encourages investment, but he is abrasive and generalized his students as negative and complacent. I've never been more overwhelmed. His lectures move so quickly assignments are extensive, requiring more time than I've ever spent on a course. I barely had time left to focus on my other classes!
Great professor, lectures were very helpful but we basically used Aleks for 95% of the class, didn't learn anything from Aleks, but I did learn a lot from his lectures.
You may as well just do an online class, everything is taught through ALEKS. The topics that are gone over in class are covered too quickly to take notes and he gets frustrated/mad when we don't immediately understand something. You have to reach at least an 80% on ALEKS to qualify for a grade, which is about 200 topics, all of it is homework.
In class assignments graded for completion, lots of Aleks homework, he is very good at explaining and if you need help he is available often. His tone is kind of passive aggressive but he can be funny, just get your homework (Aleks) and in class assignments done and you can probably finish early.
The professor assigns a lot of homework, portfolio notes work, and tests.
