A very good teacher, cares a lot about what he teaches. Class is very easy just don't miss any classes as tests are based on lecture. One of the best teachers at saddleback.

He is supereasy. Read the book though. He lets you use your notes on all the exams and your book on the final. Plus he drops one of your test scores at the end. As an added bonus: No homework besides reading!

I took him in all three area's and he is the best history teacher at Saddleback. You can not fall asleep in his lectures. People "Wake Up!" and learn something new because he is it. I wish he would teach politcal science. Republicans beware!

Great Professor. He does want his students to do well and and to learn something. He's is very laid back and not anal. He is interesting and he has open note tests. I recommend him--one of best professors at Saddleback.

Very knowledgable and has a lot of class discussion. Although he has very advanced vocabulary and I was having a hard time keeping up with him and his lectures since he wasn't going to be there one day during the 2 day schedule. I dont know he may of gone a little fast but I dont think it is his fault he has to cover 2 days worth of lecture in 1.

Great professor. Just go to class (every class) and you'll get a "B" for sure. The paper at the end may screw you up just a bit if you're not ready for it. The key is to not miss a single class. The lectures are so enjoyable that you almost don't want to go to class. He is really amazing. So much information. Open book open note tests. The best!

He's fabulous. Great lecturer, he made a subject I thought I'd learned to death interesting again. His focus is on concepts and looking at multiple perspectives, rather than tons of facts. He's very approachable and his open-note tests are fair. I would definitely recommend him!

He is an awesome teacher. This is my second semester with him and it is so much fun in his class. He has open book and open note tests. I know I didn't believe it at first either. His lectures are a lot of fun. Take his classes, you'll love them.

This man is a trip. He is very animated and makes his lectures interesting. Open book, open notes but the tests are a bit of a challenge so just do the reading or at least take good notes and you will ace it for sure. Also one small book report but it's no big deal. Attendance counts

This is one the the worst teachers at saddleback. All the positive ratings on here are most likely fake. Hes such a crapy teacher he makes tests open book cause he doesnt know how to teach. Open book doesnt help when material is over 100 pages. Try to go off word of mouth for hist teacher selection, cause positive ratings on here are riged.

Very animated, very interesting. I disliked history until his class. He gives wonderful lectures, and I look forward to HIST 5. Hands out packets every class which contain general information to take notes on, very helpful and convenient. Reading is expected. Open book tests, easy grade if you pay attention to lectures and do your reading.

This is a great teacher, who ever complains does so because they don't want to hear the truth. Exams were open book, open note. I learned a lot from this teacher, very thought provoking. I know those who don't like him as a teacher, either refuse to take personal responsibility or are so stuck in their fundementalists viewpoints.

Todd is the BEST history teacher ever! Very passionate, animated, and downright honest about the subject. Todd teaches the cold-hard truth on history, the way it should be taught. It's a breath of fresh air! Tests are all OPEN book, OPEN note. You just need to take notes in lecture, he goes quite fast. Easy A or B.

A cool cat who speaks very well. Lectures like he's telling exciting stories that keeps you interested. Leniant on grades: 3 tests open note/book (not easy), 1 paper, + attendance. Kind of socialist w/ views but students think for themselves. He just puts it out there very well. Can you dig it?!!!

He was probably one of the best professors i've had at Saddleback, I recommend everyone to him. He not only used genuine energy in his lectures, they made you want to come back to the next class. Everything he said has stuck with me, and that is a rarity. His exams are open note/open book .. take GOOD notes, you won't regret taking this class.

What a great teacher! He's very passionate about history and you can tell in his voice during his lectures. He provides a very different perspective on history that's interesting yet questionable. Most will think he's crazy initially but they will soon discover that he's a cool "cat". I hope "you can dig it" if you know what I mean...lol

Awesome teacher who is passionate to teach history & sometimes fills you in with stuff thats not in the textbook. He has a lot of energy to keep you awake in class & interesting topics to talk about. Open book tests, but still need to read & follow lectures & take good notes. He wants to help, but students need to also follow along to pass.

Menzing is a powerful lecturer. His passion and energy is unique and mesmerizing at times. Beyond the open note/book tests, he gives outlines for the lectures. He teaches real American history, which to the dismay of many patriotic young kids is really not anything to be proud of. Capitalism comes at a horrible price. Enlightening class overall

Menzing is a great professor! His passion shines through his teaching like a bright star. It's incredible how little I knew before I took this class & how much I have learned. There is 1 paper & 3 open book/note tests (online) they are NOT easy even though he does give good study guides. Take good notes & come to class & you should be fine.

It's fun to go to his classes. He tells the truth about history and what really happened. He is more a liberal and very opinionated. You might not agree with him, but he still makes you think and encourages you to do something about todays issues. He is very passionate and emotional about history.

menzing is a great professor that will keep you interested and on the edge of your seat. He teaches REAL history and has socialist ideals. He is very concerned with the working man in America and sticking it to the man. There are 3 exams and a paper. Take this class if you want to learn. "Can you dig it?"

If you are conservative he will seem a little exteme to you you, but not so much that you will storm out of the class. His tests are all open book. Just one paper on a some stupid historical novel, but you get to chose what topic. All-in-all, not a bad teacher.

i took his class 8 weeks (not online). he was nice, i thought it was kind of hard... but not impossible. the text book had long long chapters but skim and then go over the review at the end of each chapter. he gives you hand outs to fill in for the notes, you have to kind of be able to write quick. very passionate teacher. oh, only 1 essay (easy b)

This was the worst class I have ever had. I would not recommend him to anyone. He teaches his opinion, which doesn't help for the exams because the exams come straight from the books. If he wants to lecture on his opinions then he should test on that. I did ok in this class, but I would never take his class again. He is not a good teacher.

This is by far the best history class I have ever taken. Dr. Menzing is truly inspirational. He challenges students to think independently. I am transferring as a history major thanks to him! Menzing rules!

I am definitely conservative in my political thinking (of those "Orange County" people), and Menzing is very liberal (socialist?). I must admit, however, that he is one of the best teachers I've ever had. He encourages people, as citizens, to THINK for themselves (truly rare!). If you can "dig it" --- take this dude.

I do not recommend taking him on-line. He definitely puts down students effort. He believes anyone should be at his (high) education level and that we are idiots. Do not take him you will regret it.

This is my 5th online class & it's by far the worst (all A's so far, but a C in this one). May be ok in a classroom, but NOT online! He is confusing on what you are supposed to know, the study guides are too long & vauge, he forgets to tell you stuff, & the disscusion board homework post aren't on the tests. 3+ books & no direction.

Professor Menzing is very helpful and gets back to you quickly. His class is not easy, but you learn a lot. I'm in his online class and, although there is a lot of work, it's not impossible. If you're lazy then don't take his class. If you want to learn and work hard then you should take it.

Too much homework!!! Plan on 20+ hours a week. Very unclear, needs to update syallabus, gives wrong material to study for tests, he has a very hard time admitting when he is wrong. Maybe he was just having a bad semester but I would NEVER take him again!!

He is a great teacher. I have taken him online and in lecture and it is so worth taking his lecture classes. He is really smart and tells you about all the secrets the textbook leaves out. He is also really helpful and wants to help his students. His online classes have a lot of work, but his lecture classes are easy, 3 easy exams and one essay.

Terrible teacher! Do not waste your time! He does not answer your questions appropriately, giving nonrelated responses and leaves some unanswered. Provides wrong information regarding tests and quizes. Very large amount of general information for very specific questions. I will NEVER waste my time on taking one of his classes ever again! Horrible!

HORRIBLE ONLINE CLASS! DON'T TAKE. maybe okay in class, BUT NOT ONLINE. I worked my butt off all summer only to get a B. Ruined my GPA, and stressed me out. Endless reading and discussion, tests were wack, he was unhelpful most of the time, and I barely learned anything. Please, do not take his online history class. JUST DON'T! i regret it so much.

Took online 8 week course. I admit it was one of the more difficult online classes i've taken but still got an A. Tests are timed and based on study guides. Print them out and read topics in depth and you'll get an A. Hardest part is the discussion board posts which require a two paragraph post and two responses.

WORST TEACHER EVER.please do not take his online class.the tests are difficult and unclear,you'll end up reading one paragraph in the text over and over in order to answer his confusing ass questions.extremely unhelpful, it seems like he doesn't want anyone to pass his class, or like he's punishing you for taking an online class. My 1st bad comment! What a prof!! He had a mistake on putting up the FINAL EXAM and wouldn't even extend the due date. Also he requires 2 books but one is only needed for his required final essay which has NO INSTRUCTION what so ever and expects all of his students to know what he is really expecting! Wouldn't even answer the questions directly.

HORRIBLE ONLINE CLASS, DO NOT TAKE! He offers no support, and expects you to know everything about history. His disscussion board posts are impossible to pass, he expects you to be at his level. He puts up the wrong syllabus, and thinks its our fault for not letting him know. He runied my GPA and stressed me out. SAVE YOURSELF AND DO NOT TAKE HIM.

I had a 20% spread above the average class grade, and a C is what I received. There is no extra credit! And when he says there is no break in grades, believe it. I would advise to take this on line course with another teacher. During the last two years, I was excited about going to school the and doing well, Oh well! His his way or the highway.

I thought the guy's class was great. Instructions were clear and discussions were thoughtful. Exams were straight forward (right out of the book really). Maybe it just comes easy to me but I can't see how anyone could do poorly in this class. I recommend with four and a half smiles out of five.

I don't agree that the professor is biased. His comments were fair and balanced. The discussions were interesting and the exams were fairly easy. The essay project was interesting. I recommend this course!

He is a hard grader. We have discussion every week and its pretty easy to do if you like history. I believed that my discussions are not perfect 100% but I at least deserve a low 90. But he gave me a low 80. Very difficult teacher to please.

This instructor is rough!! Unless you are a history fantatic with a strong background in the material - stay away from the online courses. You are going to be teaching yourself and at a very fast paste. It's clear that most of his instruction is simply cut and paste from previous classes taught. Good luck, but withdrawl if you have time!!

Tests are ridiculously hard especially if you take this online. He is not clear where context is to come from on exams and gives you too many places to study (2 books Zinn and Nash and BOP). Not clear and consistent. Average test scores were in the 55%. Textbooks were changed after we started and told us to read it online. Terrible class.

Took online class - very difficult. Its obvious this professor doesn't care. Syllabus isn't even rewritten for this semester (goes back to spring dates). Tests are very hard and he won't budge even though the average is very low for all the class. Thinks its his way or the highway but problem is he is losing people that dug history before.

This is one of the more difficult online courses I have taken only because there are many discussion boards and a few different sources (books and films). But overall I really have enjoyed this class. The instructor is clear and exams are fair and based on the readings. It's ok for people who don't like history much

I cannot understand why people complain about this class. It is very easy if you just read the books and follow instructions. Once I got the hang of it my discussion scores shot right up. The exams are based right on the readings and the professor practically gives away the answers in study guides. Takes effort but worth it

Don't waste your time taking his internet class. Hard grader and inflexible. Does not follow syllabus. Positive comments must come from him or people who knows him. Total waste of my time and money$$. Drop this before you even register. He can take the fun out of history big time.

I took the 8 week course so I cannot say that his class was easy. But I CAN say that he makes it very clear what is expected of you. If you keep up with the schedule and do the required work you will pass the class. Never tried to call him but he was very prompt responding to my emails. Good professor

Online class is not easy. A lot of textbook reading (including Nash, Zinn, online Biography of America, & novel called The Jungle by Upton Sinclair). Essay on "The Jungle" due at end of semester. 2 quizzes, 2 exams. Follow his STUDY GUIDE & Nash textbook, you'll pass the tests. Weekly DB threads MUST be thought-provoking & orig for decent grade.

Hard class. 10 Discussion Boards, 4 quizzes and 1 essay. Need to post about 6-7 times to get an A on DB's. Post your answer by Fri night + 5-6 responses by Sun should be fine. Keep up with the reading. Also don't neglect the other sources, video clips, etc. Don't procrastinate on the essay. Study alot for quizzes. Hard class but you will learn well

WOW his exams are impossible!!! I took the online class. There is SO much reading!!!! Too much information to cover in one week. I do not like history and this class made me like it even less. His average on the exams were a D!!!

Best online class yet. The test questions are written by Nash (UCLA) who is the author of the textbook. Seriously so easy. One of the test questions actually had Madonna as one of the choices. The course perspective is mindblowing. PPL scored low, but the posts read like a 3rd grade chalk board -- I mean really embarassing -- even for Saddleback

This professor will always answer your emails and is helpful. There is lots of reading and videos to watch weekly (online class)I always get A's on the discussion boards, but the tests are very hard. I study from the study guides and still did not pass one test. The questions and answers are reworded from the text, so its hard to find. Good class.

His class is online class is extremly hard, he will email you back right away. Nothing seems to like him and his way of grading is extremly hard. He doesn't give extra credit for any reason. I would not recommend this teacher to any one unless you want to get a bad grade.

Great professor, he is very smart and just expects the basics from his students. I've taken him online and in lecture. His exams are not difficult it is word for word the readings. People just need to do the assignments and they would be fine. Wait until you transfer and you read a book a week :-P Menzing is very fair.

Summer Online US History 22. Tuff class, but fair and good teacher. I would say I spent on average 2:30-3:30 hours a day studying.(keep in mind it was an 8 week class) Come exam time (every 2 weeks) I was able to score 89%-94% when the class average was 50-69%. STUDY HARD AND USE HIS STUDY GUIDES YOU WILL GET AN A! If your lazy you will fail.

Internet course. Tough but very fair. If you do the work you get a decent grade. If you slack you fail. Participation on the board is crucial. Use the study guides to get good exam grades. Interesting class.

Interesting online class but biased professor. The textbook is good. Prof. Menzing is not really open for discussions. He also seems to concentrate on dark, rather weird, negative facts. Not a pleasant experience his class. A depressing class. I was glad when it was over.

Yeah, the instructor was "biased" -- so what? People only charge "bias" when they disagree with a particular point of view. I thought the instructor was open to all viewpoints and encouraged thoughtful discussions. I loved loved loved this class! Was sorry when it ended.

Tests were inconsistent with reading material. Seemed like the instructor was using the older edition of the book and the chapters did not line up with the tests. Discussion boards entries were graded generously. Possible to get a good grade with no previous knowledge of the subject if your willing to put in the time and effort.

Make sure you have the book for day 1. Took the online class and a B was really easy to get. I had an 89 but he makes it very clear on the first day that he will not "round" grades and no extra credit. Tests questions were liberal and inconsistent. He offers very little help. Essay was very easy though. I have mixed feelings about him.

Online is easier. He was forgiving when it came to the discussion grades. Tests are hard to finish on time and little has to do with the reading. He doesn't answer questions, just refers to the syllabus (which usually doesn't answer your questions). Essay is easy, you probably don't even need to buy the reading book.

The discussions are relatively easy. He does not always respond to emails. He is very unorganized when it comes to taking tests. He scheduled 3 of the tests before he taught all of the sections that were going to be on it. He only changed the date of the test when students pointed it out to him.

It is easy to pass the class, but he gives you the wrong test to take. All of the tests had material from chapters that were being taught in the future. He changed three of them to the correct one. The last test had three chapters that were not taught. We discussed one chapter that was on the test, we had to learn 3/4 of the last test on our own.

Online course. Discussions are simple,straight forward. Does not follow his own syllabus. Tests are always ahead of schedule by at least 1 chp (1 chp per week), and the last one was 3 chps ahead with no extension and him saying "You'll have to research ahead." If you are not good at "researching ahead" I would avoid. Check test contents early.

One of the easier online classes. There are discussion boards, tests, and 1 paper. Very forgiving with the discussion boards, the tests are difficult cause it feels like the chapters don't line up but not impossible! Isn't very clear with the paper, wants outside sources but doesn't directly say so? Emails quickly and helpful. Easy B, hard A.

This instructor is not very computer savvy and has trouble with the online site management in general. (Online Class) He puts random comments without reading your posts & the exams are long, 200 questions without giving students proper review or preparation. I found this course to be very boring and very dry.

Took online course and will NEVER recommend his classes to anyone. Didn't follow syllabus, tests didn't line up with material covered (test on chapters 25-28 required completion on the week of chapter 25 - bad form!).

Online class was pretty easy. Just have to do the discussion board two days early to receive full credit. If you email him he emails back to you within a day. If you cant sit in a class for four hours I would recommend his history online class.

This was an online class. It was very informative and a big eye opener. I received a "B" in the class. Tried very hard for an "A" but he said those are not given out lightly. Overall it was not a class that I worried about throughout the semester. Just do your work and you'll pass.

This teacher was great. I had a hard time with history classes and Menzing made history make sense. If you read the book and watch all the videos you will pass the class. I would highly recommend this teacher to other students.

I have taken a lot of online course and this one was not easy. There was a ton of reading. The organization needs to be improved. There is a test every other week and they were really long and hard. I would not recommend this class to anybody.

1 assignment a week so put some effort into it and you will get a good grade. Every 3 weeks an exam with multiple attempts to get a better grade. He tells you what he expects so if you post discussion questions by Wednesday will get full credit . If you do what is asked will get a good grade.

Mr. Menzing is an awesome teacher. Show up to class and take your own notes because he is all over the place with his lectures. Although he explains everything clearly don't expect the answers to the test to be given to you. Lets you use notes and textbook for tests. He's passionate about what he teaches. He's the real deal.

Took this class as my first online class would not recommend it to anybody. Test covered chapters that where not included in readings, only commented on two students discussions thought the whole course, did not give feed back on discussion grades. cannot say i did not learn anything i did but tests are not organized, not my kind of teacher

2 years, hardest classes I have ever taken. I received A's on the written portions, but I failed when it came to tests. Syllabus was unclear. Test went over obscure things/stuff not covered yet. Asked & found out that all tests are open book/can use notes. My last tests I used these & still got bad grades. Time-consuming-lots of studying /reading.

SO UNORGANIZED!! Did not receive 1st announcement/syllabus until day AFTER class was meant to begin. Got my text at the book store-despite the fact the book was listed under his name/course #, the $88 nonreturnable text was INCORRECT and he did not tell us it was the wrong text until the 2nd week, after I've spent 7 hours reading it.

Numerous sources, two to three chapters in three text books to read each week plus videos, usually half hour to hour. I took the 8 week course and it was not easy - lots to cover (1492-1876) in short time period. Some qs in the exams (4 total, plus the final) seem subjective, but you have 3 attempts. DB posts interesting and super rewarding too!

This is an online, 8 wk course I am taking with prof Menzing. Obviously going to be a lot of hw given that it is an 8wk course. There are resources like videos and the text to help you complete hw. He is definitely detail oriented. If you do not do your hw you will not pass. Overall, it's tough to keep up with with other classes but you can do it!

If youre looking for a challenge take Todd. Whole course is basically graded off discussion boards, but they arent easy He makes you write the initial post, then 2 responses the next day, then 2 more the day after that. Even though the entire DB is due Sunday, if you wait till the last minute he'll mark you down. Doesn't respond to emails.

the worst online class I have ever taken. The tests are too hard for a 3 unit, can't see wrong or correct answers, see only one question at a time and they are confusing. The average for all exams is 80%. The discussions: you have to site all sources multiple time, and your replies to others have to be 100 words, or you get a C. NOT TAKE AT ALL

The layout of the class was strange and many people did not like his guidelines for the discussions boards. Tests were easy but he graded the discussions very harshly. When he responds to your email or your discussion, he is very harsh and sarcastic.

8 week online class. Tests are every two weeks, you get 3 tries and get graded on the average score. One discussion board every week. About 300 words or so, with 4 other short responses. Its hard work because its an 8 week course, but if you read the material it is all there. Plus u get several tries on the tests.

Prof. Menzing was drier than sawdust, an unnecessarily tough grader, and never responded to emails. We had to write a lot of forum posts to even have a chance of getting an A. Also, the tests cover an insane amount of obscure material. If you already don't care for American history before taking this course, expect to hate it afterward.

This instructor has terrible response time to emails. Exams supposedly offer three tries but the tests were not set up to do so. Links to resource materials did not work. Tests have questions not in the text. This was an online course so there were no lectures. He might be a knowledgeable person but he lacks skills as an active instructor.

Honestly class was not badfor an 8 week history course. You kind of have to learn how he likes his discussion boards. I think the more paragraphs and information the better so always just do a little extra. Essay final but I only needed like a 65 on it to keep the A so its not super weighted. Just a discussion board every week. Quizzesnot proctored
