You are great!!! thank you for being such a wonderful teacher!
You were such a great teacher! You made the class a lot of fun. Thank you for everything!
Rote teaching from notes, unwilling to deviate, tests are scantron, not particularly educational but very amused with himself
No Comments
Just grades on test nothing fancy, he curves the test and there's a lot of extra credit.
He's kinda boring but if you read the text book and study the vocab, the tests will be fine.
He is a very easy teacher. He does grade hard, but is willing to help you anytime. He always shows up to class with a diet mt. dew.
pretty easy, just study notes and textbook and you'll do fine. doesn't test you on things you didn't go over. he's also pretty helpful, if you have a good reason for needing it.
sucks
Dr. Todd as I call him, hard bc we had to actually conduct an experiment and we had to write a big paper on it as well as a few others, but if you want a fun environment with lots of spongebob squarepants, this is definately it!

He is so dam boring. Does not go over everything on the study guide because according to him you should know it. Test are very challenging, most of the students drop the class or get F's. he does give extra credit, write a 10 page essay/ experiments
Diet mountain dew, the nectar of the Gods!
Not the best teacher I've had. But it's not hard to get an A. If you didn't go over something in class (or if it's not in the book), he doesn't test you on it. I got away with studying the day before tests and just doing the extra credit experiments presented in class.
He's very laid back and lectures in a very casual manner. If you have any questions during class, just ask. If you see something in your notes you don't understand, e-mail him or get him during office hours. Show up and keep up with the textbook reading and you'll do fine.
I thought the class would be hard, but it isn't. Its pretty easy, all you have to do is study for quizes and design really easy experiemnts and write a short paper about it. Thats all the class consists of experiments and quizes. Plus he drops the lowest quiz and gives you to remedial quizes.
he tries to hard to be funny but its an ok class...i heard he was better than the other teachers
He was supposedly the harder of the profs that teach this class. His tests were average, not too hard, but surely not easy. You had to go to class, take good notes, read the book to be able to get an A but, if you just want to pass then it’s not that bad, just take good notes. Having a recorder helps bc he talks pretty fast.
His tests were mildly hard. You really have to study and read the chapters and study guides that he gives but his lectures are interesting. Even if you do not like psychology, it is an interesting class to take and you learn a lot. He doesn't care for attendence but if you miss his lectures, you will be screwed. Good Luck!

Difficult...not interested in getting you a passing grade. Unclear, but humorous at times. Pay attention, and maybe you'll pass--I failed.

Extremely stuck up. He thinks he is so great, and he only gives good grades to the brittney spears look alikes. If you dont believe me, look at his TA's
i wasnt the hottest thing in the room and didnt flirt shamlessly so i didnt get a good grade. maybe if he stopped downing the moutian dew and quit acting like a jack ass people would have shown up and paid more attention. too much of a pompus ass for his o

Definitely not my favorite. Try to get into someone else's class.
This class was alright. He was pretty interesting and if you just take good notes and read the book a little bit you'll do just fine. There's no homework! Just a couple tests that arn't that hard.
People complain about Nelson, but if you actually study for a test (gasp) you might pass it! He is not interested in being your friend and holding your hand so you pass, but he's always there to help if you put forth the effort.
Loves to here himself talk, takes a weeks worth of class just to say "Your research paper needs the folowing:" He will say it the class day BEFORE THE FRIGGIN PAPER IS DUE! Chapter readings and lectures only covers a fraction of what your paper is all about Its a INTRO CLASS! INTRODUCE US to the field, not to your egocentric SELF. Avoid him
Ego minded gives too much homework for a 3 unit class. the hurs estimated is 9hrs a week for tha clas is more like 19hrs.he loves to blab on about his mediocre life stories. gives review sheets the class before the TEST. tests are fair, but he expects you to remember all the expererments in one chapter and all of the little minute detaabout them,.
the book and lectures are not always on line. arrogant-yes, funny-in a dorky way, he didnt clarify experiment project paper well enough. had to ask him in class what the hell he wanted to us to turn in. the whole class got ready to write it down! this was the friday before the following mothe paper was due.
He is funny, fair, challenging, and always available to help any student. Very accessible and friendly. He is the best prof I have ever had!
His class is very boring. You have to work extra hard to pass. He does not seem to care if you dont understand a concept. However he gives makeup exams that are very good to increase your grade. If you have an F and take both makeups you can get almost an A if you do good. But try not to take it with him!
I dont know what you people are talking about. I get good grades in his class and i looking nothing like brit. His TA's arent even that pretty either. This cockyness you people talk about... its called scarcasm, and its just his sense of humor. Get over it and stop blaming your bad grade on him when in fact you probably just didnt study.
Was brand new when I attended and appeared to have a "God Complex". Since he is still there, I assume he has improved in that area.
horrible, he gives out too much work, and expects too much out of full time students, never test off what he says he is.
I was really interested in psychology as a major until I took his class. He tends to breeze through the information without really explaining anything. I've stopped going to lecture because I get the same grade in or out of class.
THIS TEACHER SUCKS!!! DONT TAKE HIM. HE CONFUSES YOU MORE WHEN HE "TRIES" TO HELP YOU. LETS JUST SAY THERE WAS 30 STUDENTS IN THE BEGINNING AND ONLY 10 WERE LEFT AT THE END OF THE SEMESTER
Anyone who says Dr. Nelson's classes are difficult is not putting in the work needed. He is very clear, helpful, funny, and fair in his grading. If you study, and follow the study guide, you will do very well. Dr. Nelson is an AWESOME professor!
This is the professor who inspired my love for the subject and made me switch majors to psych. Those who dont appreciate what an awesome professor he is need to shut the #@?! up and work harder! Take advantage of the make-up tests and listen to the lectures! He is a great lecturer and a funny professor. By far one of my favorite teachers ever!!!!!!
this guy should've stuck to stand up comedy cuz he is more funny than helpful...he gives out little information and then expects us to do well on his tests...he doesnt go through notes thoroughly at all and gets caught up in his own personal experiences...overall not a good teacher.
He would always say things differently from the book and, on the tests, sometimes he was "correct" and sometimes the book was "correct". Very frustrating. You pretty much have to argue with him after each test to get a decent grade.
oh my god i never thought i would ever face a teacher like him. he doesn't lecture the class and gives us quiz every other week. and the quiz is not from the book. My whole class is mad thinking what should they study then. Best advice never take this class with him even if your willing to take the challenge. it won't be a fair challenge.
choose another prof.
I think that everyone who is complaining just didn't do the work. All you have to do is read the chapters assigned for the test, make some flash cards or whatever helps you learn the vocabulary. He only lectured 5 times the entire semester, so not a lot of stuff to study outside of the book. If you need help, he responds to email quickly.
class wasnt too difficult. a lot of memorization. You have to pretty much teach it to yourself.
This guy is an embarrasment to the university. How he ever got tenure is a mystery. It makes me sad for the other, hard- working faculty who actually deserve their raises. He is totally lazy, self-centered and useless.
be prepared to teach it to yourself
What a waste of time. This prof never lectures. Gives tests without one word about the material. Always late. Changed the syllabus I don't even know how many times. I agree with previous posts. Be prepared to teach yourself, but if possible, take another prof!
that guy is wierd but the class is easy
This guy is by far the worst professor I have ever taken. He has no interest in how his students do in the class, he takes forever to grade the tests. And most importantly wastes time by talking about his wife, geez get over your divorce already. No one cares.
You have to memorize everything, the tests are all essay form give as much detail as possible. I GOT AN A, so it isnt that bad. Just keep up on the lecture notes and you'll be fine
Everyone complains, but if you read the book and learn vocabulary you'll do fine. Those who rate him as a bad teacher just didn't do the work. Whatever. He's incredibly smart and has a great sense of humor.
Do not take him. His tests are extremely hard.
He is the worst teacher in the psychology department. His lectures are just an attempt to try and impress you. He has such a big ego with nothing to back it up. Why don't they fire him??
Let me put it this way: I got an A and learned absolutely NOTHING. I was really looking forward to a psyc class, but this guy completely turned me off. Completely different guy from classroom to office hours, funny in class, but not personable AT ALL when you ask for help :(
Boring is the key word here. And I love psychology.
This guy is the worst! Do not take him! He does not care about his students, or about himself. He wore the same thing to class everyday, it was weird. His tests were hard even if you study, and they are so unorganized! DO NOT TAKE HIM!!
6 exams (all short answer and essay). Gives study guides with 60-70 concepts/terms/studies, must memorize details about studies (method, results, discussion) including specific percentages. Very helpful during office hours. Intriguing lectures, but goes very fast (be prepared to write entire class period). One >8 page paper and offers extra credit.
You will NEVER know your grade in the class. He's a funny and approachable guy, but when it comes to classroom organization, forget it. If you take a seminar from him - prepare for a lot of work. It will help you in the long run, but it is definitely demanding!
Boring. Long. Study sooo hard, just to do average on the test. 5 exams, one extra credit. If your the type of person that needs someone to elaborate then do not take this class. he can be very all over the place
Really listen to these comments because we're not lying! He was extremely vague and made stuff up as he went! Made vulger jokes and was never helpful. His tests were insane to answer and I got more out of my book then I did him!
A cool guy outside of the classroom but as a teacher, lazy & extremely unhelpful.
I felt I learned what I needed for his course. However he gets an F in organization.Luckily I checked when he finally put all of his grades. Then I found I had a D in the class.I emailed him and he said I had an A and that he would take care of it the next day.I did not receive my A for 3 months and only after I had repeatedly e-mailed him about it.
Impossible tests. You need to be a mind reader to pass his tests. Be ready to fight him for your points on your tests and be told your wrong even when you know the material. If you don't answer it in his words, he will mark you wrong.
For all that say if you do the work then you will be fine, you are FULL OF CRAP! I have studied harder for this class than any other and keep getting F$%#* over buy this guy. He shows up late, and does not keep his word, and does not take fault for anything he does. You will likely feel helpless in his class and want to rip out your hair. I have lo
He does not know what he is doing. As if he makes what he is teaching up. Vague. DO NOT TAKE HIM! The tests are extremely hard. Studied for hours before and still with a D or C. Plus, wears the same thing everyday.
He consistently will show up late. He lies about the curves he gives in class after tests. He gives out statistics that are wrong making studying impossible. He grades depending on how he feels and not what is in the text book. Good luck if you take his class.
Nelson is the only one that teaches this course. If you do not need this class, DO NOT take it. The subject itself is interesting but Nelson makes it VERY hard to enjoy. The tests are impossible unless one is able to memorize a large amount of material word-for-word. There were about 6 tests, he doesn't show half the time, he is smug and difficult.
Everyone has so many negative comments, but the class was fairly easy for me. I never once used my text book. He gives out study guides that tells you exactly what will be tested on. I just showed up to class, took notes on lecture and got a good grade!
NOT A GOOD TEACHER. Find a better one!
All class assignments and quizzes for this online class are due right smack in the middle of the week at 5:00 pm. Also a 1 page paper is required every single week, along with a 15 question quiz. Not to mention the discussion postings. LOTS of work for one class!
I took this class online and the tests were extremely difficult. I studied for every single test and never received better than a C on any of them. Good luck if you're taking this class. You'll need it.
I am still taking this class online, there are 3 weeks left of school, we have had a paper due every monday and he has graded NONE of them. Each week we turn in another paper and each week he does not grade them so I have no clue where I stand in the class. I recommend finding a different teacher.
If ur gonna take him, Dont!!!
He's not a bad guy, but if you're seriously looking to learn something about Social Psychology, DON'T take him. His grading for tests I'd say is a bit much (e.g " ONLY his answers"). Be prepared to study the experiments he talks about, lecture vocab, and the book. He offers EC if you do experiments. (I easily get an A by doing so). Meh 3/5.
I really enjoy Nelson's class! Study your notes, read the book, and pay attention in class! If your having trouble just e-mail him and he does not seem to mind helping. He offers extra credit and he makes class fun with his interresting jokes!
Hes a good teacher but hes super lazy, when u take tests, expect to wait up to a week and a half for ur results sometimes. If you take good notes you'll do fine, his tests are curved so that helps a little
He is really funny and entertaining but when it comes to tests he slacks. You have to read the book like mad on your on time. The study guides are always posted late with missing items. He posts test scores sometimes weeks after we took them. Overall, not terrible, but not my favorite either.
if you do the study guides and actaully study it, the class is a breeze. try not to miss days though because missinig one day is missining alot.
textbook was useless. his lectures didnt cover what was on the tests, but there are extra credit opportunities.
This is the most unhelpful teacher I have ever had. I took his class online and regreted every minute of it. He does not respond to emails or even let you know where you stand in the class. A paper is due every week and his weekly tests are super hard. This is the first C I have ever gotten in my life. Avoid this teacher AT ALL COSTS!!!!
I rarely came to class and got an A, although I would recommend going. All you have to do is use the study guides he posts online. I never even opened my textbook. His extra credit is easy points. His grading was easy, he allows a makeup exam every 3 tests. There is 6 tests all together. He cancelled class a few times which was cool.
Nelson is not a horrible professor, but it is hard to fully understand the lectors. Notes are the only thing needed for tests. Test questions are hard! Even if you feel you grasp the concept, the questions are confusing. How he discusses the topics do not explain what the questions will be. At least he provides an outline and study guide!
Dr. Nelson is entertaining, but it's annoying when he's late to class, which was nearly every class. You need to work for your grade. YOU NEED TO MEMORIZE DEFINITIONS & EXPERIMENTS! Plus charts! It is HARD! You will be FRUSTRATED! But when you get an A on one of the 7-8 tests, you'll feel wonderful. Write every word he says!!!
I learned a LOT, this class was super easy as long as you write down WORD FOR WORD on what he says in his lectures. Study guides are exactly whats on the tests. Make sure to be DETAILED. My 15 page research paper wasn't the best paper I have written and my work cited was all messed up and I still ended up with an A!!
Took this class online this summer and I honestly don't know why people have complained so much about this teacher. As long as you completed each test and actually attempted the one page papers that are due for every chapter you should have easily received an A. Definitely an easy A.
Honestly I was very intimidated because I read all the bad reviews. I even considered dropping the class, but couldn’t because of financial aid. I am so glad I did it ne-ways. Professor Nelson is an awesome instructor. I took his class online and it was pretty intense, but If you have the drive and determination to get an A you will! I got an A!!
Ive taken 3310 & 3320. Dont take 3310 w/ him unless you have to. His tests are really hard and there would be questions on the test that werent even on the study guide. Plus a 15 page essay. Guichard is also teaching it next semester so take her! 3320 was really easy. We had a weekly test (10-15 questions straight from the book) and a 1 page essay.
Horrible, not clear, tests on matters totally unrelated to lectures or book
He is not bad. If you listen t his lectures and take notes and study those notes you will pass. He gives study guides. use them.
He's alright. Tests every two weeks, there multiple choice, and pretty straight forward taken right from the study guides. He doesnt come to class a lot. and he sometimes goes off on tangents while teaching. I didnt use the book, just looked up terms from the study guides off of the internet and still got an A. Just study and youll do fine.
I am currently taking his class and I feel like it is a waste of time. His notes are illegible he goes off on tangents all the time. He also fails to show up to the study sessions which are scheduled the same day as class and is never there during the actual day of the test. He also mumbles making it even harder to understand what he says.
Do not take Nelson..his lectures are horrible and doesnt cover anything that are on tests. Doesnt show up to class on test days and study sessions and leaves it to his TA to do the work. Not clear on what he is doing. Tests every 2 weeks and doesnt cover chapters that are on the test. Just horrible
Dr. Nelson is an okay professor. He didn't respond to emails quickly, and sometimes he didn't even respond at all. There were 7 noncumulative exams, and 2 remedial exams. On some of the exams there would be questions that weren't even covered in the lectures or in the book. Take advantage of the remedial exams! Overall, okay class.
He doesnt stay focused. Dont miss class!! 15page paper! The test revovles around HIS answers and even whn you think youve got it youll prob miss something. His "revised" study guides tend to miss something or leaves a lot of guessing still. I walked away from an exam feeling 100% barely got over 70%. Youll fail first 2 tests. DO EXTRA CREDIT&VOCAB!
I don't know what the other Psych2010 people are complaining about. This class is very passable as long as you do his study guides. He can be a little long-winded, but he makes the tests easy for everyone to pass and grades on a curve.
His class really isn't bad if you do the study guides.. Going to class and taking good notes helps do better on the tests because some questions refer to the lectures. But overall it does require some time and effort but it's definitely not impossible it's just an average class
He is not the best psych professor, but he is not the worst professor!! as long as you do the study guides and go to class EVERYDAY you will do fine! in this class the textbook and the internet are going to be your next future BEST friends if you want to get an A. KEEP IT UP he is not that harsh, people often over-react!!
Overall an average professor. Stands and lectures the entire time. His slides are literally pulled from the pictures in the book. If you want to do well I suggest going to class and taking notes. Study guides posted on black board are very helpful. Sometimes he forgets to add things to his "revised" study guides.
VERY funny guy! thats the only good thing though! His lecture didnt cover much of whats on the test as the semester goes on, and the book was 130 to rent and became almost useless! Had to google EVERYTHING for study guide and I took GREAT notes! What he DOES explain makes SO MUCH SENSE but he doesnt cover much. Hard to prepare for tests,SLOW GRADER
This class is passable. Make sure you do the study guides. The test questions are challenging I have to admit, but if you have studied enough you will do fine. I didn't do the extra credit and still got an A in the class.
He was okay. First half did not teach anything important and just needed the book to fill out the study guide but second half none was in the book and the study guide was all from his lecture. As long as you do the study guides, the tests are pretty easy. Overall pretty easy.
Terrible teacher. He is rude and is not helpful. He is very strict on due dates but never grades the papers in a timely manner. He requires a special book that can only be purchased from the school library and it is very expensive! I will NEVER take another course from him!!!
I do not recommend taking his Social Psychology course, unless you really want to be tested on your knowledge. Many have failed due to his grading curve and difficult exams, where you either know it or you don't. I've never had a class like this, and I wouldn't want to go through it again. Take this class with another teacher if you can.
This class was easy overall but i would not recommend taking him as his free response questions are pretty hard to study for. As for an intro class i did not expect the 15 page research paper he expected people to write. Relies heavily on his lectures for his exams but does not provide them for you. I expect to get a B but i would avoid him.
He does not know how to teach intro to psyc. Expects you have prior knowledge about the course. But study guides are given a week ahead the test which mostly comes from the book and some from his lecture. The book is needed in order to learn but his tests are not difficult even though there are 6tests it is curved. Remedial test are helpful too.
Good professor. Tries to be funny and seems like an overall good guy. YOU MUST READ the book in order to pass. Clear on expectations from the beginning and tries to give advice on studying. He does expect you to read and half if not most of the questions will come from the book. Gives a study guide though, no reason for anyone to not pass.
Great class! Just come, take notes, and study and you'll be fine. Gives study guides for every test so nothing is a surprise.
There was NO textbook, tests are based purely on lecture, speeds thru PowerPoint lectures and when you ask him to slow down he pause for 2 seconds and continues whether the class is read or not(but he has plenty of time to go off on a tangent to tell a joke or private story), no study guides given. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!
DO NOT TAKE, LECTURE ARE NOT CLEAR, YOU COULD MEMORIZE FROM HIS OWN WORDS, AND YOU WILL STILL GET THE ANSWER WRONG, AND YES MY LECTURE NOTES WERE THE SAME AS EVERYONE ELSE AND YET HE IS NOT CLEAR ON WHICH ANSWER YOU SHOULD MEMORIZE AND RUSHES THROUGH GOING OVER TEST AND YOU COULD ONLY CHALLENGE ON YOUR OWN TIME. WORST PROFESSOR EVER!!!
There is no book, all of it is based on lecture notes. This class in NOT impossible, currently have a B and I truly earned it. Take notes, make friends in case you miss a class. Tests are made up of exactly what he lectures on, so make sure you write every single thing down. If something is not clear, speak up and ask to have him clarify.
The only reason people don't like Nelson is because you actually have to work for your grade. There is no book, you have to attend the lectures and write very detailed notes. There are no study guides for this course's tests. Take notes, study, and you get an A. He gives curves and extra credit options. I have an A, so its not impossible to pass.
This class is very self sufficient, you have to do everything on your own. Only tests are counted in this class and you get long study guides but it is do-able. Just study a lot and read! His lectures are kind of all over the place but he does mean well.
Dr. Nelson NEEDS TONS OF IMPROVEMENT. Goes WAY TOO FAST during lecture (wont slow down even when you ask him to). Adds a lot of useless info in lecture that wont be on the exams. Doesn't explain concepts well, confusing. Overall, I am disappointed that I had to take him as a professor, I wish I had someone who actually knew how to teach psychology
Lectures get long and boring after a few weeks. Make sure to do study guides and you will do good on tests
Nelson is a great professor. It's very clear cut and as long as you attend the class, takes notes of the lecture you should pass the class. I would take him again for another course.
this class can be hard if you tend to skip class a lot or if you don't take good notes during his lectures. if your want to pass this class I suggest you go to every lecture, actually pay attention on what he says and study the study guides. he gives out extra credit throughout the semester so take advantage of that.
Here's the thing about Todd - his lectures are straight to the point and he explicitly tells you when you don't need to write something down. However, his tests are insanely hard. His tests are all memorization based and they all have to be WORD FOR WORD for you to get credit. Other psych professors test for proficiency, he tests for memorization.
Intro to Psych was not a hard class. If you do not pay attention during the lecture then you will fail, also the reading does help a lot. He gives you a study guide before the exam and it is really helpful. There is also a makeup exam after the first three and the last three exams in his class. I truely enjoyed this subject.
Please know this when walking into his Intro to Social Psych class: his exams are HARD. He expects you to know the material verbatim and recite them on the paper. Using your own words is NOT an option. No book and he doesn't post the lectures online so if you don't write something down oh well.
the very first week of starting the class, he assigned 3 chapters of homework hat was due the next week. you might not think that's a lot, except the 3 chapters added up to just shy of 200 pages and you need to write everything from off his lectures and it still wont help with the tests.....
Dr. Nelson is not an instructor you want to take if your looking for an easy A. Intro to Social Psych is an interesting course however, if you are not good at taking notes you will need a way to record the lecture and listen to it again because he expects you to remember just about everything he says and shows you on the slides.
Literally no reason to fail. He's nice and emails back quickly. Got an A:)
Todd is an awesome teacher!! He is so clear in his lectures and there aren't that many tests in the semester. He is really helpful so take him if you can!! His final is straight from the study guide. Super easy
At first, I thought this class would be tough because of all the comments below but it actually is my easiest and most interesting class this semester. Nelson is an approachable professor and gives extra credit (he really wants you to pass). I actually do better on the tests without the book, but sometimes you might need it.
I took his online course because i thought it would be easy since i have taken his class in person. He assigns papers that you think you're doing right the whole time, but wait... he does not let you know the grade until later on when you realize its the middle of the semester and you have been writing essays the wrong way. Don't take him online.
The class was pretty easy and he was pretty easy to talk to if you needed clarification.
He is not a very good professor, I asked for help, and refused to provide it. He's confusing and not very well organized. The class is easy in general, but I wouldn't recommend him.
Overall extremely helpful teacher
I was getting ready to run for this hills after I read all these reviews on here, but I ended up keeping the class with no regrets! Easy class, although you must be present during lectures. They are essential to passing the class because pretty much everything talked about in class is on the test, and the SG is basically everything you need to know
Professor Nelson is overall a great guy, he just isn't the greatest teacher. He has the tendency to talk fast during lectures, which can make it quite difficult to keep up with what he's saying. I personally learned more from the textbook than I ever did in his lectures. However, an A is possible, you just have to really work for it.
You have to study to get A's. Extra credit is easy. Curves all the test. He gives remedial's to change your worst grade on a test.
Class was super easy! All you have to do is attend and take notes. He gives study guides before each test, and make sure to do them. They really help. The book isn't as important. He uses it the first 2 tests, but then doesn't. He cracks cheesy jokes. He has 6 tests in total, each roughly 2 weeks apart, and 2 make up tests. Really fun class to take
At first i was scared of this professor because of some reviews on here but i took a chance and took this professor. this class was GREAT, you will learn very easily SO MUCH Extra credit.
Nelson was one of the easiest professors I've had. He gives you a study guide 2 weeks before the test and his lectures are EXACTLY like the test. He also gives out tons of extra credit so unless you do absolutely nothing, you can get an easy A.
I am dyslexic and am not very good at reading or writing. Mr. Nelson was very clear cut with what he expected and when he expected it. He was accommodating and would answer any questions you had. If you do the work, readings, and show up for class you will get an easy A. The classes where intriguing and hilarious. He is open to everyone opinions.
Had him twice for online courses, he presents them in an easy format but adds new info at last min. He didn't respond to emails, unless its in two weeks or too late. Writing assignments and essays may appear easy but he is too critical and gives zero credits for even 1 mistake. He tests very hard and critically!
He is seriously the worst professor I have ever taken. He does not reply to emails, and he is horrible at communication when canceling skype, office, and telephone appointments. He has a "closed-off" personality. I would never take him again. His lectures are based off of his own personal book that he's written Biased much???
Dr. Nelson was really funny during the lectures, but remember to pay attention and take good notes! His tests are easy if you complete and study the study guides he provides. I mostly got B's on all my tests, but I took advantage of the extra credit and got an A in the class!
Half of the exams are from the textbook which he does not go over at all. Bad job teaching to the class as a whole; sounds like he's talking to someone next to him the whole time. Although he curves grades on tests 50% of the class failed everytime. Needless to say, made me uninterested in this major. Was even encouraged by counselor to drop course
Professor Nelson is very lecture oriented and rarely has much explanation on his slide shows. It is A LOT of information to process which would be fine if he would provide a better slideshow with definitions considering his exams are mostly based off of lecture and he demands students know material verbatim. My advice, find a better professor.
Its possible to get an A in this class but it will definitely be hard and most likely your hardest/most dense class of your semester. Get ready to write 10 page study guides just to study for one of the 6 exams given throughout the semester. He gives 30-60 term study guides, in which only 8-15 of them will be on the actual short answer test. /:
I thought this class was going to be interesting but it was very boring and long. Hard to stay awake and pay attention. Nelson is kinda nerdy and funny at times and also cracks jokes no one understands. All lectures are on his PowerPoints. Didn't even need the book. 6 exams based on definitions.
Pay attention to lecture, do all extra credit, and you will pass.
Never will take this professor again, I was all about psychology until I got into his class and the way he explains/doesn't explain things makes everything confusing and just boring. I changed my major after taking this class. He explains things but then doesn't say what it ties into, it's like a bunch of sentences in a textbook with no headings.
His lectures are just slides of notes. Test just about every Friday. Nothing spectacular just a big lecture class so no time for one on ones. Class itself can be hard if you dont show up or dont do the study guides.
Not an easy class. I recommend voice recording his lectures since he lectures verbally with ppt. Get to know people in the class so you can collaborate study guides. There will be content that he won't go over in class so you have to get it from the book. He revises the study guides. 6 tests. Offers E.C. + 2 remedials. No multiple choice tests.
Nelson is a cool guy, but I had a hard time getting all the info I needed from his lectures. Most of the lecture is verbal so you have to get small details down quickly. You HAVE to read the book. Utilize the study guides!!! Do not underestimate the amount of work you need to put into this class. It is NOT an easy A.
I took Nelson's class this spring semester. You're only graded on 6 exams, he also offers 2 remedial exams. Lectures are dense and are all powerpoints. You will take MANY notes! He offers a lot of extra credit. Make sure to pay attention. I rented the book but hardly used it. You can do the studying without the text.
Ok. In his defense, I barely went to class, but with that being said I passed with a solid C. I learned more from Crash Course than I did from him. His lectures were confusing and hard to understand. He had a lot of extra credit but your whole course grade is based on like 6 test. Yes, he allowed you to correct 2 of your worse scores.
DO NOT TAKE HIS ONLINE CLASS, did not even send a courtesy email before the course started to tell us that he wanted 5 chapters read by the 2nd day of class.... which was also the exam day
He is the type of person who has earned a doctorate and needs to be called doctor. I have taken two fo his classes online and both have homework, exams, and discussions every day. There are essays for each chapter and you can get half off every time for formatting issues. I emailed trying to ask for websites to reference and he never responded.
Nelson is an amazing professor and offers countless extra credit opportunities, such as online quizzes, a paper, and experiments. In other words, you have many opportunities to bring your grade up! Nelson has six 50 question exams, which are worth 50 points each. To ensure you ace these exams, I highly suggest that you take very detailed notes!
Easily one of the worst profs I have ever had. Graded on six WRITTEN exams only. Study guides are finalized the day before the exam. Lectures are hard to follow and only given verbally so if you miss something, then too bad. Goes off-topic way too often. Does not offer office hours and does not post grades. Gave me a bad impression of Stan State
I skipped a few of his classes and still passed with an A hes not all that bad as people make him seem, he expects you to get your own stuff done and be responsible for the grade you get. He gives a lot of extra credit for this class too.
6 exams and 2 remedial. Always accessible via email no matter how many questions you have. Makes class entertaining and gives lots of jokes. Exams are completely short answer/written but not that hard. He does not take attendance but if you skip class you wont get the material needed for exams. Great guy. Consistent grader. Would take again!
This class is purely lectures and exams. There are 6 exams throughout the semester. However, there are many extra credit opportunities. I found his lectures to be boring, and they lacked engagement. Lots of material as well. The exams are not cumulative. Class genuinely feels like an uncomfortable and awkward environment.
He's a funny professor and the class is a good start to psychology. He makes a lot of jokes so it's not an awkward atmosphere. The study guides help a lot, but sometimes there's things he never went over and he changes it the day before. Tests are really easy if you come to class/study, and there are 2 make up tests.
Professor Nelson does his best to make the lectures interesting. The lectures can seem long but he does tell stories or jokes sometimes to keep people engaged. Lectures are important to attend for exams. Overall I enjoyed his class.
This professor has many extra credits opportunities and tells us to email him whenever if we need more explaining with a topic.
This class is tricky. Your grade only consisted of 6 exams; that's it. You can retake 2 exams and they not hard, but you still have to do good on them because this class is on a curve. If you hate classes on a curve, don't take this professor. He does give you everything you need to know for every exam, but you have to know most terms on the list.
The class material was not hard but he would put things on the exams that we did not even go over. He claims he is accessible thru emailver got back to me when I would email him multiple times. He is not very good at giving you an idea of what your grade is. He didn't even give us our final grades ahead of time, they just went on the transcript.
The class is only graded on test, there is no homework assignments due weekly. You have a total of six test in the class. He provides readings and lecture videos to watch, if you have a hard time being a self starter this class won't be easy. He provides study guides for each test, which really do help. He also offers extra credit. Curved grading
Professor Nelson requests papers 1.5 pages long took him over summer class was not difficult, is very particular about formatting. Is not very approachable as he will just email you with small details and will ding you for those small details such as spacing on a title page. I did not know my grade looked it up on my transcript very disappointing.
I had taken a class with Nelson previously & enjoyed the class structure. In prior class he held lectures, assigned reading, quizzes & tests regularly, & provided great study materials. I was disappointed to see this course lacked lectures & was nothing but reading, discussions, & papers. Online shouldn't mean self-guided. Recorded lectures help.
His lessons are on YouTube because it is fully online, which is good because you can do the lessons at any time of the day. I find him to be funny, and is good at explaining the main points. You need to read a lot, but if you like psychology, there should be no problem. All you have to do is read the chapters, look at the lesson and study to pass.
Took it online. Not fun. Test are so hard. Its best to take it in person.
Awful. I dislike this class very much. There is stuff on the exam that we never even learned. He seems like a cool guy but, his way of not giving out reminder, not alerting people on what exactly will be on the exam, and the exams are just really difficult.
This class is just based on quizzes, discussion posts and papers. There is no reminders about quizzes, discussion posts or papers so keep that in mind. There is no recorded lectures which suck because those would be extremely helpful.
never before have i ever dropped a class until this one. has no due date reminders set whatsoever and does not do lectures at all. deadnamed me when i turned in my papers WITH my preferred name on both email and paper. would not recommend to anyone ever.
He will not respond to your emails, the grade you receive is not your actual grade, he grades you by comparing you to the rest of the class. You will never know your grade until he submits final grades.
This proff has no set reminders for his class. I was in the hospital during an exam and asked to be given an extra day, he said no. He relies on make up exams for EVERYTHING. I am guessing he doesn't want to do extra work. I sent a few emails during the semester and it was always the same thing "Redemial exam coming up."
Consider choosing a different professor if possible. The class has six exams, with your grade heavily dependent on them. Failing the exams means failing the entire class. There's a weekly discussion and he grades strictly. On the plus side, he curves grades and provides extra credit options to boost your grade.
Amazing professor! By far my favorite when it comes to psychology.
It is an online class but does not have modules set up at all. Papers are to be emailed to him. No due dates/reminders for discussions and quizzes. No responses to emails, no feedback on papers or discussions throughout the semester. Does not grade anything. I had to look at my grade on my transcript even after I sent multiple emails inquiring.
One of the worst classes I've ever had. The class consists of six exams. If you miss any of them, your grade will significantly drop. Avoid taking this class with him.
One of the worst classes I've ever taken. The first time I ever had to drop a class. The set up of the course is a joke. There are no modules and no reminders when things are due you basically have to go looking for it or else you will miss assignments. If you can, take another class!
I'm currently in his online class, psychology. Modules is a joke there's simply nothing there. To find what your assignment are you need to stick to the syllabus and those dates for ALL EXAMS. There's no makeups , no extra credit other then signing yourself up as a psych experiment. His pre recorded lectures are tangents and so long you disengage.
NO MODULES section like most professors provide for us students. Syllabus is just a long list with 2 books. DOES NOT respond to your emails. LONG, BORING lecture videos. LOTS of discussions, like 2-3 a week! Exams only ur grade. discussions are "graded" attached as a word document in a link not posted in canvas at all! DO NOT TAKE HIM!!
You really have to manage your time! Lectures are on provided on Youtube, course consists of 6 exams and weekly discussions which you will have to remember because he does not send out reminders or place assignments in the modules section. Its easy to disengage in the lectures since he pauses quite often with ums..but he does provide extra credit.
Professor Nelson's online class lacks structure, with no due date reminders or feedback. Though not overly difficult, the lack of guidance and communication makes it a frustrating experience. Unstuck study could be helpful for staying on top of assignments.
Unless you learn better by reading, go for it. Beware of pop quizzes as you're not going to be notified about it too. You're graded by the class average. So whatever grade you have on canvas, it won't matter at the end of the semester.
do not expect this professor to care about your grade. paper, quiz, and discussion posts are due every week. If you take him in the fall expect to do this 2x a week around the end of October. never posts announcements for schedule changes. be prepared to rarely get your emails answered. Do NOT procrastinate for this class, the material was cool tho
Psychology is already a pretty difficult course and I feel like having it online made it more difficult. The lectures are super long (1 hr+) and there are about 4-5 per test unit. There is a lot of reading and the reading is very time consuming. There are study guides which are helpful. The tests questions are pretty difficult and tricky.
AVOID AT ALL COST! You will be watching youtube videos from 8 years ago that are uninteresting and will not help you learn. There is no writing assignments and there are just 6-7 multiple choice exams for all credit in the class. The extra credit paper is ridiculous in nature and is not an acceptable ask for first year students. Do not take him.
There is no assignments in his class, only exams. There is about 6 exams based on lectures that he posts. The exams are curved based on the class average which is great! I would recommend you do the "psychological experiments" for extra credit, they're similar to surveys and you can receive up to 20 points of extra credit. Overall would take again.
absolutely irresponsible professor with no regard to anyone except himself. he withholds grades until the very end of the semester and refuses to give you even a hint of where you're at. emails inappropriate things out and takes zero heed of anyone's personal experiences.
Wont disclose your grade until the end of the semester. No lectures, no video aids, this professor solely relies on the textbook but won't actually teach the material. Choose a different course and avoid this one at all costs. Never had a problem with any of my psych professors until now. Hes irresponsible and professor etiquette is out the window.
Grade is based on 6 unit exams and nothing else. Extra credit opportunities are offered. Be prepared to read multiple chapters of the textbook and multiple 1+ hour long lectures. The material is interesting, but the lectures can be boring to sit down and watch. He emails out random things sometimes but he's cool.
Mostly just discussion posts which are graded very tough. Only 6 exams He expects you to memorize every due date and does not post canvas reminders on assignments Had to retake him after failing the first time He also wont change grade to pass/no pass after a certain deadline Make sure to write down all the dates something is due or you will forget
Grade is only based on exams so you have to pace yourself, he does provide a general schedule to follow however to stay on top of exams. Exams usually have around 50 multiple choice questions each but as long as you write notes they aren't too hard. Frequently emails random things, doesn't bother me too much but warning if anyone else minds that.
