Todd was a great teacher and full of energy. it was the only class i never miss

This was a hard class, I dropped it.
if you're a hot girl, or fluent in spanish you should do great.

i love todd! i thought he was great and funny. I wish i could have taken him for all of my spanish classes.

One of my favorite teachers!
This guy really takes things personally. He was energetic but to the point it was annoying. Hes not very nice to people that move faster than others. Be prepared to stay the whole time everyday.
If you have a strong spanish back ground, you should do well in this class. Otherwise, avoid Tod, because he expects you to be fluent in spanish and his teaching slyl is very frantic and hard to comprehend.
great teacher. very helpful and encouraging. Great teaching method. He goes fast and makes you work but it is worth it. He is also very clear and wants you to do well.
I'm indifferent about him.
great professor! he's really nice and cool. i took him for spanish I and i had a blast! He's funny and i love his teaching method. i learned so much from him and i would highly recommend him! i am going to take him again for spanish II:D
I had Todd for Spanish 3 and Conversational spanish and I have to say I wish I had taken him for spanish 1 and 2. I would know so much more than I do now. He makes class interesting and engaging and if your looking to actually learn then he's your man. he gives you everything you need. he has a way to help you with whatever is keeping you back.
I had Todd for Spanish 2. He is a good teacher and you learn a lot of information. My only complaint is that he is very FAST! It always seems like he is in a rush! He expects a lot from his students but if you are willing to put the time into STUDYING AND READING and STUDYING some more you will be fine in his class! I agree with earlier comments
He moves really fast and the class is pretty boring but you'll learn a lot. he loves teaching so expect to stay for the entire class everytime and not to have any cancelled classes. he tries to make things fun but he treats his students like they're in middle school. It's a pretty easy class though.
C'est un bon prof! Il est serieux mais pas trop. Les examens ne sont pas trop dur. English speakers must exhibit critcal thinking on one section of each test and this gave some 'A' student fits dragging them into the dreaded 'B' land. His accent is rather good for an American and you should listen carefully to his lesson on pronunciation.
Awesome teacher. He's entertaining and get's the whole class involved. Very easy class, you need to go and learn the vocab, if you don't just drop it. I learned a lot of Spanish and passed the class with a low 'A'.
he is soooo awesome! take his class for sure!
Todd Phillips is legit. He's on of the best in the game, and has been known to ball on occasion
Had to drop class because this would have consumed so much time. I have other classes to consider and it would have been near impossible to do all he asked. He's nice & energetic, but if you're full time, it may be very difficult to keep up with the amount of time he requires.
He is an amazing teacher, works with his students well and makes the class enjoyable. He is highly prepared with his material. He is cool, nice, and really funny.
Todd is indeed legit when it comes to learning. The quality of teachings are great; however, the only thing that I didn't like was the fact that it was difficult to get an A. Yes, he's a great teacher if you want to learn spanish fully, but it will take you a lot of time and effort just get an A. Overall, great class, hard but you can learn a lot.
Todd is an extremely motivated and passionate teacher. Expect to spend a lot of time outside of class studying. This class requires it. I took 3 years of French in high school and took the first sem. at another school in the fall. It was still difficult for me. Don't miss classes, and expect to never have a cancelled class.
He is a great professor! Always helpful, and you get a lot of review and practice time in class. Would take him again for Spanish 2!
Great teacher. Very thorough, extra credit is offered and is never in a bad mood, NEVER.
If you already have a background in Spanish, you will have zero problems. The new kids seem to struggle, and he moves fast... ask questions if you don't get it, or utilize the tutor sessions and office hours. He sets you up for success. Great guy, too.
If you have hours and hours to spend doing RIDICULOUS book based online homework this is is the class for you. If you prefer hands on learning and clarity, Id look elsewhere, Prof. Todd is a very nice guy be he DOES NOT stray from the book!
So I have taken other Spanish courses and so far Todd has been the best I have had. One thing you should know is that you will have to work for your grade. I suggest making a group friends in class to practice outside of class. This helped me a lot on top of which I made some cool friends. You will enjoy the class I promise, its never a dull class.
Todd is an amazing professor. I had the opportunity to take his Spanish 3 course over the summer with had a study abroad component. He is a tough grader yes, but he expected so much from me I preformed! Take his class if you are SERIOUS about learning Spanish. He has inventive and effective teaching habits so play along !Buena suerte amigos!
Mr. Phillips is tough but fun and a great teacher. Keep up from the beginning and you'll be fine. I would have gotten an A but i had surgery in the beginning of the semester and i was pretty loopy from meds until mid OCT. Lots of work, Lots of extra points, and he does work with you.
Todd Phillips is a great professor. His course is quite challenging, more so than any of the previous Spanish classes I've taken, but you will learn a lot. Be prepared to study like crazy though if you want an A.
Todd is a great professor. Be prepared to study quite a lot. If you have a background in Spanish you'll be fine - if you don't you may struggle a bit. My class went from 30 people to 10 because it's tough, but if you are serious about learning Spanish, take this class! He also calls on people randomly all the time so be prepared for class everyday.
Great professor, learned more this semester than in my seven collective years of prior Spanish classes. I would take Spanish III from him this semester if he was offering the class.
Great guy and awesome class but his test are extremely difficult and homework has little to do with the test
I had him for a study abroad class in Costa Rica and it was one of the best experiences of my life. He was extremely helpful in outlining what we were going to do in the class before we left, when we got there, and what we were doing when we got back. He gives out a lot of work but it will make you better in the long run. I miss this class a lot.
Very straight forward professor. Makes lectures extremely enjoyable and enjoys his job. Respect his syllabus and you'll do fine. Homework is due every Monday but doing the homework is crucial. Attendance matters, tests are pretty clear. Highly recommend!
IF you are a Spanish major or have LOTS of free time on your hands, I recommend this professor. IF you need to maintain a high GPA because you want to transfer to a university and need to knock out a foreign language credit, look elsewhere!! Seriously, this class was way more of a time investment than necessary as a full time science major.
As a person, there is no way you can't love him. He's hilarious, bright, and passionate. For a beginning Spanish student though, the workload is incredible. I spent minimum 6 hours every day studying and doing homework. It's the hardest I've ever worked, and it's my first time not getting an A in a class. Not recommended for beginners.
Guys, you're learning spanish. OF COURSE there's a lot of homework, it's college. Todd, is an amazing professor! He LOVES to teach! And you'll NEVER be bored in his class, as long as you're not the bummer! ALWAYS TAKE NOTES (from the book and online) it will save your butt in the end. If you are a spanish speaker don't go into it thinking it's cake
Very straight forward professor. Makes lectures extremely fun and enjoys his job. Respect his syllabus and you'll do fine. Homework is due every Monday at noon but doing the homework is crucial. Attendance matters, tests are pretty clear. Highly recommend! Do the extra credit!
This professor is seriously the best one I've had! He makes class so much fun and will do his absolute best to get you to understand anything you have trouble with. Yes his homework is a bit excessive but you're responsible to grasp the information just like any other class. Spanish is not an easy subject if you just started so ofcoarse it's a lot
Intense, strict, but kind professor. You will have a blast if you love Spanish or are studying language, but otherwise this class may be very difficult. You either go 100% or nearly fail, if not fail. If you are just looking for a credit or high GPA I sincerely suggest looking otherwise.
If you aren't serious in your studies don't even bother taking his class.
Prof. Phillips said to me, and I quote, "If you don't have a Spanish background, you won't pass the class." This is a BEGINNING Spanish class. For NON-Spanish speakers. I dropped all my other classes to be able to handle this one. He is really passionate, and really entertaining, but seems to have no clue that this is a beginner class.
I loved Prof. Phillips up until the point where I missed one class (I had the flu) and he tried to force me to drop the class. I stood my ground and continued the class. Please do not take him if you have no prior knowledge of Spanish. Textbook required as well as attendance. Gives extra credit if you make flashcards or your own study techniques.
He is a great teacher. He understands you and makes sure you understand the class. Always keeps you up to date on thins.
He travels everywhere and shows us pictures. He makes everyone participate which is a good thing. He is very easy to communicate with. The textbook is very much needed for this class, we learned about different cultures, watched films on specific countries. It was a great class
He is the best professor I have had so far and honestly, it's very easy to pass the class with an A. He is VERY patient and knows how to connect and get along with his students unlike other professors. You just have to study a bit and you can get 90s on every assignment. He listens to his students and we learn a lot while having fun.
he's too good, very funny, VERY patient, fun, he rides a Prius. I LOVE TODD
Very funny, easy grader, caring. Class is based off textbook but he will show you pictures of all the places he's traveled. Very funny and patient. He's like a friend. Learned lots of new things.
He is an amazing professor, he knows what he is teaching. He's extremely funny and gets along well with students. He's like a friend but not really. An amazing teacher overall, I don't see why people would complain. Es un professor amazing.
He's a hilarious person, a bit childish and very patient with his students, but sometimes he's a bit hard to compromise with. Also, homework i a very big part of your grade. We love Todd.
He is great. I have learned a lot . He is hilarious. He is like a friend . We Love Him!!
Prof. Phillips is an overall great professor. He makes sure everyone gets down the grammar, he is big on accents. Make sure to do all the homework in time, he gives a lot but with reasonable timing. Make sure to have the textbook as he lives and goes by it. Gives great feedback on exams. Has lots of patience, and overall hilarious.
One of the best professors I've ever had. This language professor inspires students to speak whatever language he's teaching. His Spanish course was outstanding. He makes every minute of each class interesting, and inspires students to actually converse in a foreign language. Does a great job of mixing class partners to practice in class.
After participating in countless courses since 1994I was encouraged by T. Phillips' teaching style, happy with his patience, grateful for his grading generosity; inspired by his enthusiasm. My only hope for other students is that all ACC professors are equally demanding and knowledgeable as T. Phillips, J. Millstone, K. Angel, and M. Alfonso.
Professor Todd is really funny and helpful. I would recommend taking him for any language class. He gives out lots of extra credit which is awesome! Don't forget to do your homework though.
Hes actually super great. Call him Chip. Hell love it.
Great professor if you're really trying to learn Spanish. You will be well prepared for future Spanish classes, as he extremely thorough and pays attention to all the details. If you're just wanting credit without working too hard, this is not the professor for you!!
He effectively explains concepts, pronunciations and rules for speaking, reading and writing Spanish. There is online homework and quizzes in class, but overall it is a fun class. Showing up is important. It's how you practice speaking and learning correct pronunciation. The professor always reviews quizzes so you can see what you did wrong.
Take this class if you actually want to learn Spanish. You'll need a lot of study time and attendance is required, but Todd is engaging, makes the class fun, and cares about students succeeding.
Todd is a great and engaging professor. I learned so much Spanish this semester! This is not an easy A. I worked minimum an hour to 2 hrs a day, did the extensive homework, and participated. He made it fun . He has a clear grading system, offers brownie points; takes notes on the chapter before class. Wish I could get him for span 2.
Professor Phillips is one of the best here at ACC. Spanish is a tough subject, but he makes it fun and easier. Lots of homework means you will leave saying !Oy, se espanol! Puntitos help out with bad quizzes, tests, or missed classes. My only regret is that he won't be teaching Spanish II next semester.
I had Professor Phillips for both Spanish 1 and 2. If you actually want to learn the language, he's awesome. After taking his class I feel like I actually understand and can learn on my own. His class does have HW, but as long as you keep up it's not really that bad. Keeping up Spanish 2 was a little harder for me than in Spanish 1 (as expected).
One of my favorite things about our class is the culture of community that he creates. You speak a lot in class, maybe 2 or 3 times in each class, with different classmates. This gives you the opportunity to get to know everyone and work together. Very organized and relaxed. Don't slack on the homework and show up prepared.
Prof. Phillips was the absolute best! If more teachers were like him students would thrive! He really cares about his students learning the language and his lectures are full of fun facts, Italian culture and films to really immerse you. He gives out a lot of worksheets for practice which are truly helpful.
Profesor Phillips is the best I have had! I wish he taught Spanish 2 so I could take that class. He cares about his students and is so funny! I loved having him as a professor I recommend 100%. You will learn Spanish if you keep up with the homework and study your vocab!
I took him in the summer instead of at UT and he's awesome! I thought I butchered the oral interview but he was a very lenient grader! He calls on each person multiples times every class and will put you in small groups to collab. There are homework and two quizzes each day and an exam every week
LOVE Prof. Todd. It really helps to study every day, ask questions. Makes himself available for questions, understanding, generous, PATIENT. Great communication skills, I'm having a great time! It's tough learning a new language, I'm very grateful to be in his class.
Todd is an amazing teacher. He truly wants you to learn Italian and takes time to ensure you are successful at it. Of course, learning a language requires a huge investment of time, so don't sign up if you just want an easy 'A'. His syllabus is very clear, lectures solidify understanding, the book, quizzes, and HW all support learning Italian.
This semester has been insane. The freeze required us to learn a ton of grammar in a short amount of time. There's a lot about this semester that has made me regret picking italian as my language, it's been a pain and then some.
I took his Italian classes online and I was seriously impressed by his language skills, his kindness towards his students and the way he would always give us a little bit of Italian culture while teaching us the grammar and proper ways of speaking Italian. I would one hundred percent recommend this class. Todd Sei il migliore!
Profe Todd was amazing, he truly truly cares about his students and wants you to learn for the sake of knowing and not just testing memorization. He answers emails outside of office hours right away, if you pay attention in class and do the work as it's assigned you will get an A. Wish he was doing Span 2 next semester!!
You will start looking forward to class. We played tombola in Italian, we constantly have Italian memes and gifs, he has the world's greatest database of cheesy ad slogans in Italian. This is a class with personality. At same time, we go over and over material so much, you can't NOT learn Italian. You're going to hooked and end up doing Italian II.
You can tell he likes being there. He sometimes is late and has calls in class tho. Listen if you are trying to do well in this class with NO prior experience you need to attend class, practice with tutors and office hours. There is a TON of homework, takes forever, do it if you want to pass. LISTEN to the voice exercises they are on the test.
I took Professor Phillip's French II class last spring semester and really enjoyed it. He is very helpful and kind, and facilitates opportunities for the students to interact and practice speaking French. He gave out many handouts. The class is difficult, but he is very forgiving with grades and clearly wants the students to pass.
Hands down the best professor Ive had, Im actually genuinely sad that Im unable to register for a French II class with him. He cares a lot about the language and will tell you a lot of facts about French even if it isnt on the test, he cares a lot about his students. I love the way he teaches and Ill always think of him when practicing French
There is a lot of homework, and quizzes occur often, but they aren't tough as long as you study. Lectures are especially pertinent because they allow more opportunities to practice sentence structure and pronunciation. I found this class to be an excellent start to learning a new language. Highly recommend.
I took this class instead of @ UT for credit and it was great! I will say the textbook/homework is a little bit archaic and the program is just kinda bad. Also you HAVE to buy the $150 textbook in order to get access to the online hw. Overall, Phillips was super reachable over email and was eager to help. Great class.
Overall, this professor was great! This class was hard, but he always included jokes about Italian culture and fun exercises using tv shows and movies to make it more enjoyable. He is a great teacher that always answers any question and has helpful office hours. There is a lot of homework, tests, and quizzes, so be prepared to work.
He is the BEST teacher I have ever had. He made Italian so fun to learn. The class was difficult, but he made it very fun and enjoyable. He really does care about his students and will give you all the help you need to succeed. If you do what Professor Todd recommends and pay attention, you will end with a good grade! I would 100% take it again!
Prof Phillips is a sweet guy, and wants his students to succeed, but this class was extremely excessive. I spent HOURS every day trying to finish all of the assignments and quizzes and it was overwhelming and draining. Took it here instead of UT hoping it was easier but the amount of assignments is unbearable. Everything is proctored as well.
The instructor expects students to spend 2-3 hrs everynight working on this class.100% online, Overall, this class requires an unreasonable time commitment, offers minimal instructional support, and does not provide adequate feedback. I would not recommend taking this course unless it is the only 1,be prepared for an intense, self-taught experience
