Very cool guy. Take his classes.
Great teacher, greater guy! Classes are laid back and easy going, lectures very conversational, yet the material is absorbed. Tests are challenging but defiantly do-able. Outside of class help is always available from teacher.
I found the class hard, but I really enjoyed going. He's really nice, really cute, and obviously likes what he does. Awsome guy.
Great teacher, made lectures fun and informative at the same time. I dont believe the class was too difficult, only had 2 group projects, a 1 page newsworthy report, 4 homeworks, 3 quizzes, and 3 tests. Class was very straight-forward, no surprises, and plenty of extra credit opportunities.
i loved todd, he's awsome... and cute

I can't add much to what everyone else has written about Todd. He's great! One of the best profs I've ever had. I highly reccomend taking his classes.
Kind of hard if you don't understand what he's talking about. Good teacher though, and a really cool one too.
Coolest prof at CCSF, in my opinion. Totally amusing and easy to understand. He reminds me of a young Ben Stein.
what can i say besides whats already been said- the man is awesome!! easy going and knowledgable- he gives intresting lectures and never has a bad attitude towards students, the information he says will be on quizs Will be on the quiz- no surprises and no trick questions-hes sexy as hell- I <3 T.R!!!
Todd is a savage teacher...his tests can be hard sometimes if youre not good a t math but he teaches that**** really well in tutoring...if you have the chance...get todd as a prof...
Definitely my favorite teacher so far. Funny, fun, intelligence, without a trace of superiority. Would come to class in jeans and a t-shirt, sit on his desk, crack the occasional joke, and blow your mind. Highly recommended.
Really clear and fun teacher. Great abilties teaching to all the learners, auditory, visual and kinesthtic.
Students who hate science LOVE Todd Rigg. He makes the densest subjects understandable. Ever had an "ah-ha!" moment? That's what Todd's teaching does. Suddenly things are clear. His tests are difficult but just take notes in class, and you'll do fine. Great teacher, I just hope City College knows what a gem they have.
nice, cool, kinda weird but in a good way. knowledgable, clear, not super hard. an all around GOOD teacher.
Todd was an amazing professor, just the kind you hope for in your developing years. He spends most of class time answering any questions you may have, often times straying from the subject, but in an informative and interesting way. Plenty of math, but nothing too tough, this class was just the kind of thing you hope for in college.
Good at teaching the concepts except for the math. Math part of the class was really hard.
This professor is totally inspirational, not just his teaching but his fairness, upfrontness and just everything bout his class is awesome. This is one of the few classes I looked forward to going to!!! He makes it really fun, though, i'm still not very interested in Astronomy!...
I had a massive crush on him.... so did all the other girls in his class. He is totally cool. However, I'm an English Lit major so science isn't exactly my forte, so I struggled with the math a bit, yet managed to crank out a solid B.
i wasnt really expecting much from this class but todd made it interesting and actually kind of fun. its not vert hard if you try, the online quizzes are pretty much the only homework you have on a regular basis.
Everyone I know at City is taking at least one of Todd's classes--that's all I have to say.
You will never forget Todd. He is passionate, knowledgeable and helpful, not to mention hilarious. Science and math kept me from pursuing college for the longest time, but if only I'd known there were teachers like Todd out there, I might not have been so scared/hesitant. If you study, show up, and ask questions and you will succeed!
He's a great teacher. He knows what he's talking about. He also got a lot of words of wisdom.
Todd Rigg, what can i say? his class was really hard for me, the math was very difficult even though u just need math 835 for the class. i don't suggest him if it is for GE purposes but if it is you're major, take him, he knows his stuff

Todd is a great great professor. He'll help you even years after you graduated. He has helped me win a many scholarships thanks to his detailed recommendation letter. He really teaches with his heart and is willing to go extra miles to help you out if you ever needed him. I'll never forget Todd. His lectures are interesting. Excellent teacher
todd is great prof! yeah he's hard, but he makes it that way so you walk away from his class learning a lot. he's always available to help, and he's down to earth attitude makes him very approachable. if you're not doing well, he'll work with you to try and bring you grade up. he's awesome!
he is GREAT!!!!! lot of fun in his class, although it may be a little hard to get A in ASTR, but take him!!!! it is really great!!!!
Funny, casual, patient, smart, and in LOVE with Astronomy. Any interest in the stars or the universe? Take Todd's class!
Entertaining and educational course. Funny guy. Math is baaasic algebra, just big or small numbers, easy. Stresses concepts over minutia, all pertinent notes/slides on his website, lots of extra points available, even with half a brain i got an A. I understand EVERYthing now..
Todd is one of the best teachers I ever had! He is very helpful and care about your learning experience. In addition, he also has a very fun personality. I wish all teachers were dedicated like him.
Todd is a great professor: clear, helpful, extra credit opportunities, interesting lecturer, encourages dialogue, casual teaching style... I hope to take another class with him in spring. That being said, the first few days of his class might be a little hairy! Then he calmed WAY down fast and ended up being awesome...
As long the text readings get done, this class isn't much of a struggle. Exams are far too easy. Math sections are free points since its only plugging into equations from cheat sheet. M/C is like 30/40 correct is A. He gives 10 M/C bonus questions which is the gap i needed to get my A. The hardest is the three free response questions. Awesome class
I took his class in the spring. He was cussing alot, but it was funny. He got really pissed when people started packing up 5 mins before the end of the class. He missed some classes. Otherwise i like the way he teaches pretty funny. I would take his class if my major was astronomy.
Really good teacher. Makes his calss really interesting. at times he can get off topic but he always tries to connect these rants to astronomy. The class isn't easy, but it is not hard as long as you do the homeworks and pay attention in class.
He is really hard. His class is just watching the videos and for homework we mostly read.
Took this class with high expectations, and he didn't disappoint. One of my favorite teachers, he keeps class interesting with "colorful" language and by being very direct. Rigg tells you exactly what you need to do and how you need to do it. Class is simple enough, he relies heavily on his slides and makes them available for everyone on his site.
Prof. Rigg-Carriero is a dynamic and effective teacher who really knows his stuff and is very accessible. I'd highly recommend him to anyone interested in astronomy. Note prospective students: be prepared to use algebra and learn some physics & chemistry. Hate math? Go w/geology instead.
Take his class. I'm an art student and I loved his class. If that doesn't say it all then I don't know what will.
I don't understand how people can think he's a good teacher. I took it him fall 08. Half of the class was asleep. he allows students to high jack the class, and he goes on wild tangents that to have to do with anything the class is about. He definitely knows his stuff and he would be a much better teacher if he stop cussing and focused on his job.
We had a page for our "cheat sheet" (both sides) and we could put anything on it. Really, that made this class extremely easy. You probably should read the book, but I passed the class with an A without reading most of the chapters (after the midterm, at least).
Professor Rigg is very funny and good at explaining the course material. He is very good at his job and makes a dull topic very interesting to learn.
okay so he is good looking kinda, and super funny! and very smart but he is HARD!!!
Todd is a funny teacher that makes this course interesting. The class is easy and you will understand it if you read the reading assignment before going in for the lecture. With his lecture, you will understand it a lot better
Personally, I don't think Astronomy is a very interesting subject.(sorry astronomers)But, Professor Rigg made it way more captivating than I thought it would ever be. I recommend this professor.
This was a very fun class for me. You can pass it easily if you visit tutors and read the book before the lecture. Todd is a very friendly guy and his explanations are clear.
the book sucked and was no help when it came time for the tests
I took Mr. Rigg for astronomy lab and I thought he was an interesting teacher. He is very knowledgeable, but because I was stubborn to ask for help, I ended up dropping his class. When I think about it again, he is a great teacher and I wish I took the class more seriously. I recommend Mr. Rigg if you're into astronomy.
He's funny and cynical, and the class is never boring despite the dry & complicated material. Sorry folks, you HAVE to keep up with the reading and practice the math if you're going to do well in his class. He's pretty helpful when you ask him questions and the tutor is pretty amazing. He cusses and jokes a lot, but he's just keepin' it real! A+
Todd is challenging, fun and has an original, creative teaching style. This is a tough class - heavy on reading and math - but worth the work! The book is not the best, but he works hard to explain concepts and focus on the math that is essential for astronomy. Highest rating - A++!
Nice guy. Extremely hard class. Wouldn't recommend if you have other options that may be less demanding and less stressful.
He's a great teacher, but you must keep up with the reading and study independently. You need to know algebra to succeed in this class! It's a math heavy course. Theres not much hw but if you dont keep up with the reading you will be confused in class and most probably fail.
Rigg totally kicks ass. I'm glad it's my first class of the morning, don't wanna miss him so I get my ass up!
Todd is a very funny guy. He mixes up the class with stories of his personal life so the class is never boring but this class is EXTREMELY hard! Lots of math and reading involved would not recommend if your looking for a easing passing grade
Super chill teacher with a very common sense, logical approach to teaching. The course itself is no walk in the park, and surprisingly involved a fair amount of math, but he gives you a good opportunity of passing. Awesome teacher, definitely feel fortunate for having him instruct the astronomy class I took.
Reminds me of Perry Cox from Scrubs- cynical and hyperactive. He dumbs down complex subjects very clearly which is nice, BUT he rarely lectures- relies on some middle school science video instead. Class is very static and is pretty hard if you dont read the book regularly. Don't expect an A if you cant comprehend the reading.
He is the best astronomy teacher on campus.I highly recommend him to everybody who is eager to expand own outlook on the world and not just get an easy A.
Todd is a great teacher. He never fails to keep the class amused and seems to genuinely enjoy teaching. Be sure to sit up front as it is a large class, and do all the reading before your first class meeting for the week. If you do not do the reading you WILL NOT pass the class. Don't underestimate the weekly quizzes and group activities - EZ points
I don't understand where all the fascination for this guy comes from. For some reason he chooses to teach the class at a graduate astrophysics level. Interesting stuff, but all I got from it was a lower GPA. He has a chip on his shoulder to students, this "ha ha I'm the teacher, now watch how over your head I can talk...."scheme..lame
He is fun and great guy,but his class is very, very hard! I wouldn't suggest this class if your major is not an astronomy.
very helpful. everything you need for the class is at your fingertips. the course just requires a lot of studying. not difficult, not hard, just lot of work on your own that is reinforced in class meetings.
Hes a very energetic teacher that loves to get the class involved into the material. He will crack a few jokes to get your attention to the class. I'm not going to lie, his class is not a walk in the park A, but you can earn a good grade if you go his class, though. He teaches you very well, and he has a lot of points to offer, so passing is easy.
He's a really good teacher but you must do your part as a student. Take notes and read ahead just so you'd be able to comprehend his lectures more. Dropped his class with a W but I'm planning on retaking it. I don't recommend this class for freshmen or students who are looking for an easy A 'cause this class isn't easy at ALL.
Todd is an awesome teacher his classes are interesting & he keeps you engaged however astronomy is a hard class and you work pretty hard. It isnt easy. every week there is a reading quiz(not graded) & group activity and/or Individual quiz those two are graded and he has the midterm and final and there is 50 points extra credit available.
I learned and laughed a lot in Todd's class. Going over the book before each "unit week" really helps for the assignments that follow. THE course the grade you get actually represents how much effort you put in! Simple math abilities are a plus. Half your grade is assignments; the other half is exams. The grade sheet helps you track your progress.
Todd is an awesome and funny guy and a good professor, but you MUST READ THE BOOK. It's the only way you can pass that class. It's a really interesting class, but it's very difficult if you don't read the book or pay attention.
Although my CC years are far behind me, I still remember Todd.Awesome Teacher all around. One of my best college experiences was his class. Relates to his students and he really loves to teach. Makes complex ideas easy to understand and the class is never boring. I still know what Blue Shift is!! I impress many at the bar, thanks todd..
This is BY FAR the best professor at SF city college, still teaching today. As well as being an overall amazing human being he is extremely knowledgable in his subject. Mr. Rigg-Carriero has a realistic view of the world which makes him extremely approachable and very funny. TAKE THIS CLASS!
Todd is an absolutely amazing teacher and a great, easy-going guy! he never fails to make his class incredibly fun. i look forward to attending each day of his class. even though i find astronomy hard, i am inspired by Todd's methods of teaching to try my hardest in his class. his ability to make class a reward instead of a chore is a true gift!!
Ok, todd is a cool guy and interesting to watch and listen, however he is not a good teacher! all he does is quiz us on the book and he never ever teaches the material. He has stated that he doesn't believe in lecturing, so he is basically a tudor who can answer your astronomy questions. Hard course that you will be teaching yourself! do not take!
Todd's teaching style isn't for everyone. The class is mainly self-taught & if you can't learn on your own, this isn't for you. We watched videos, took open-book quizzes, and had group wkshts. He's a fair grader and gave opp for extra credit w/ extra points built into the tests & allowed a cheat sheet for tests. I learned a lot & had fun overall.

He was a sub for one of my classes. His lecture on gravity was good/very polished. And he even Dj'd during breaks, which was an unexpected, but added bonus. But his personality is where my problem is with'em.He talks down to students and'll try to intimitate'em.I repeat:"try".He's more annoying than anything. But its uncalled for and very petty.
Great guy, bad teacher. I had a horrible time in his class and was LUCKY to pass with a D, as were most of my classmates. If you go in to this class knowing nothing about astronomy, you'll walk out unchanged. He's a really funny guy and super nice, but if astronomy isn't your thing, don't take this class.
Todd does NOT teach. He expects everyone to learn themselves by reading the book. SERIOUSLY. He is a cool person but that doesn't matter because you paid money to learn Astronomy, not to be entertained by a paid buddy. He posts everyone's grades online and the class average was a 43% F. There are around 80 students per class and to think, a 43% avg
not very helpful as a teacher , doesnt lecture at all, at least 50 percent of class is failing , that should tell you something about this teacher , right. every day , either reading quiz or reading test , or group activities ,or videos and thats pretty much it , if you don't understand the material , u have teach yourself , or else u dont pass
Todd doesn't lecture much because 50 minutes, 3 times a week is not enough time to cover the vast amount of material. It's not because he's lazy. He will pick out the more difficult or pertinent topics and explain them very clearly. Great passion for the subject, very funny and a nice guy too. NOT A HARD CLASS - just keep up with the material.
not very helpful , intorverted person , deosnt lecture , if 50 minutes a day doesnt let him lecture then why doesnt he do classes twice a week right now our class average is a D , and this is before our final is due.... this grade reflects not only on the students but more on the teacher himself...
Easy class in my honest opinion. He gives a very nice curve to every student. 85% is an A. 72.5% is a B. 60% is a C. Extra credit is offered that gives up to a 5% boost! I can tell that he really wants people to pass his class. Most of the people who dropped the class, knew they were failing, but did not make any effort to improve or get help.
This Professor actually has a personality that does not become faded over time. Furthermore, he really cares about what he does. The class is set up so students are able to learn and retain information for longer periods of time. Personally I am now all about astronomy because of this class.
Awesome teacher. Very helpful, very clear, gives an incredibly generous grading curve. If you can't keep up with the textbook, you'll have problems. It's not a ton of reading every week (10-20 pages) but it's consistent. He really wants people to pass his class.
Best teacher I've had in college so far. By far the most genuine and entertaining guy. So thankful I wait listed for his class. I went into the class knowing nothing, but he makes it easy to succeed and keeps you interested. I recommend his class to anyone who wants a fair and helpful teacher!:)
I have really enjoyed Astronomy 1 this semester. It has not been an easy class necessarily but it has been an excellent one. I look forward to being in his Astronomy 17 class next semester.
Reading the Textbook is a MUST! You will fail otherwise! Super cool guy, but doesn't really 'teach' - instead he explains difficult topics in class, takes questions, and does weekly quizzes and worksheets. Great if you have the discipline for self-study, but not if you want to learn the material from class alone. Funny and passionate guy.
Great teacher! I have not had another quite like Todd...He gave us the ability to create our own course syllabus by choosing between several options such as taking mult choice online quizes, doing in class debates or teaching presenstations, website reviews etc. allows you to sign up for 15% extra credit. If you are thinking about taking him do it!
Did a choose-your-own adventure style thing where we chose our own assignments. This was cool, but most of the due dates were near the end of the semester which made me scramble. He says the book isn't necc but would def recommend it, his lectures are a little loose, albeit entertaining, but don't mistake his funny character for an easy class.
Even ONLINE learning becomes hands-on and fun with this professor. Professor Carriero turns something as technical as Astronomy 17 into an exciting exploration experience. The type of professor you'd find at a 4-year prestigious university, not in a community college.
Very inspiring teacher, you can tell he loves what he does. Takes what can be a difficult subject and brings it down to bite size pieces students can handle. LOTS of extra credit opportunities. Easy grading curve,85% is an A. Weekly online quizzes based on book. Take him if you want to learn a cool subject in a very interesting way!
This guy is terrible, don't take him.
Todd is a cool person, though I do not like how he teaches the class. The study guides leading up to the midterm does not really help you understand these difficult multiple choice questions.
I am taking his Astronomy 1. This is the entry level but is still quite difficult in both content and the grading. The quizes come from database, but they don't meet the edition of the textbook. Some problems are not easy as you cannot find accurate explanation from your book! He is lazy not updating the material and not helpful. Frustrating!
Todd is a very nice guy but his teaching style needs some work. He doesn't really lecture just answers questions or talks about one little thing. We had a lot of group work. You must read the book. His tests were very hard for me. I wouldn't recommend his class unless astronomy is your major.
I have no Idea why he makes his tests that hard. Thank you for messing up with my GPA because of your tough multiple questions. He is like, Hay, I know a lot about astronomy, and if you don't know that much i do? you are down.
Todd is a great guy. Super interesting lectures. HOWEVER be warned that if you don't have a strong math background, chances are this class will be a struggle. It's very math and physics heavy. He wants specifics. Upside is, quizzes are online so google is your best friend. Midterm and final are another story. GOOD LUCK. I would take Weil instead.
Class was great, blew my mind nearly every time. Must keep up with reading and be prepared however.
The online class was fun. His humor cracks me up. There are many tests, but that keeps u up to date.... but you gotta do it. It's college, right. Step up. Would love to take him face to face. Maybe next semester.
I gotta say, I'm a bit of a procrastinator, like most people i guess. He allow the student to choose a bunch of different things to do for a grade, which is cool but you have to remember to do them. A few that I chose i did not do and got penalized for it (just as he stated) so it wasn't a surprise, just kinda sucked. Asked for help tho & got it.
Professor Carriero is a very funny and intelligent guy. He gives a lot of quizzes and tests and they are hard. So, study hard and make sure you read your textbook prior to going to class to fully understand his lectures. He is an easy grader (85%+ A) but don't be fooled by it because it is a tough class. All in all, I enjoyed it
Mr. Carriero is hilarious! He is straight to the point, and very honest, which might offend some people. The best part is that he gives you the option to make up your own points for the class. You choose the projects you want to do and it is up to you to turn them in on time. TAKE HIM!
