A rare & passionate teacher who really values his students. He provides you with a lot of info, so go to class & you'll come out w/at least a B. I'm a non-bus major, but Todd is one of the most effective teachers you'll ever meet. No curve, 3 quizzes (1 dropped), 2 exams, 1 project, & 1 final. Easy tests cuz he preps you very well for them.
He tells it like it is.
The best professor I have had at SJSU. Knows the material, makes it interesting, keeps you on your toes. The material isn't the easiest, but he knows that and teaches accordingly. Go to class and listen to his lectures and the class will be fun and interesting. And always remember... DEBIT DEBIT CREDIT CREDIT.
Great professor. Truly cares about his students and their knowledge of the material. Very funny too. My favorite saying of his is, "That's violently wrong."
Double Baby Maker X-2000. Learn it, know it, live it. If you don't, you're violently wrong. I'll miss Todd, great teacher.
THIS GUY IS THE MAN! he is the greatest professor of all SJSU professors. i wish all of them were like him! he genuinely cares about each and every one of his students, VERY helpful, easy, kind, grades fairly, intelligent, and humorous. wish i could take his class again. learned so much. and don't forget, debit to the window, credit to the waaall
BEST TEACHER EVER! He cares about you learning and will help you if you ask. You can even go to his office down town and he will help you! TAKE HIM!!!
Do not take this teacher if you are student with disabilities...he docked me for not being able to take the exams on time bc the testing ctr wasnt open on the dates of the exam...he continued to teach the class when not everyone understood the concepts
He tells you at the beginning, half of you will understand it right away, the other half it will be a foreign language. This is true. I was the half that did not get it, so I had to work hard. Do lots of studying. He is willing to help if you need it. If you don't do well on the test, you can redeem yourself on the big project. Great Teacher!
Greatest teacher ever. He was one of my last instructors at SJSU b4 graduating. He is an interesting and motivational guy. Debit on the Left, Credit on the Right... Stand up sit down... FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!!!
One of my favorite professors ever!! He was funny and really cared about his students learning the material. Actually made a boring subject like accounting INTERESTING! You have to work very hard in this class, though. So do all of the assignments!
He teaches not only about accounting but about how to achieve in life too! The class can be challenging, but if you go to class and listen you will do just fine. Do what he tells you regarding assignments and always go to class because he provides so much information. He is a former world champion powerlifter, very motivating and entertaining!
Absolutely the best teacher I've had in my college career. Teaches in a way to keep you interested throughout class and class attendance is crucial. He teaches because he wants to, not because it's his job and anyone who takes his class can tell. He had me thinking I chose the wrong major.
He really is the best professor I have ever had. Not only does teach accounting extremely well, he actually enjoys teaching it. He wants everyone in his class to succeed and he tries his very best to make sure we do. I never thought I would enjoy accounting but I really liked going to class every time.
Best teacher ever. Most humble , interesting and caring professor I've had! Makes accounting enjoyable ! Gives you all the tools you need to understand and pass the class!
I enjoyed this class very much even though I am not an accounting major. He teaches you so much, and he wants you to attend class each time, and it really helps if you do because he gives you so much information. I have never had a professor like him, and his approach is unique and very enlightening. Best class I have had in business.
He is a kind, gentile, loving man and a great teacher. But you must work in the class.
Professor Robinson is honestly one of the coolest teachers at SJSU. He makes you work and is quite challenging but he helps you. take advantage of his office hours because he will make time for you and he honestly does care for his students to pass and get a good grade. He is truly a gentle kind loving kind of teacher! GO TO CLASS ITS A MUST!
Professor Robinson really cares about his students and their success. He always uses his work experience and real-world examples to help students better understand the abstract concepts and their applications. He also teaches great accounting skills that are very useful in life such as taxation, investment, and reading/preparing financial reports.
Cares a lot about his students but doesn't take into consideration that this class is for a MINOR and can't be my top priority. Gives a month to do the big project because it TAKES A LOT OF TIME TO DO, like 4 other projects that I had to turn in at the same time. Don't take this class if you have a hard semester ahead of you.
He is a "Kind, gentle-loving man" and honesty really enjoys teaching. Not only does he teach the basics of accounting well, he also gives you life advice that is actual useful. His lectures are very engaging and do not really require you read the book in conjunction. For tests he gives you a study guide each time.
Really knowledgeable teacher he understands the content and is able to explain it clearly. But there is a lot of material to go over in the semester. Feels a bit overwhelming during some times in this class. You have to read the book to get more practice problems as he doesn't give many examples in class. Good teacher, lots of work.
The nicest and kindest teacher I have ever had. He genuinely cares so much about his students. He also tries to make the lectures interesting. The grading criteria and the assignments are also very clear and the class is not too much work. I am so happy I had him for managerial accounting and would not take anyone else!
Clear grading criteria, Professor Robinson showed a lot of care for his students to learn and pass his class. He was very clear about what you needed to do in order to pass the requirements. He was nice and approachable. Gave a lot of extra credit opportunities!! He checked up on us a lot during the pandemic. One of the best!
An actual gem of a professor. Genuinely wants students to succeed but doesn't give out free passes. Lectures were a bit old school but he went over a lot of problems together so u know how to do them. Content is difficult for non acct majors; 2 midterms and a cumulative final. 1 big financial analysis assignment (>10 pages single spaced).
Professor Robinson is actually really great. He is kind and welcoming to all his students. The material is hard and you will have to study but he does a good job at making the lessons easy to understand. The exams are not as hard as long as you study well but personally for me the analysis project was hard and time consuming. Attendance grade
He really cares about his students, Is available for office hours and gives EC. Goes over things in class thoroughly so you really understand it. Great professor!!!
A kind, loving, gentleman. He sometimes goes off on a rant during class but that is part of the class. it helps to break up the constant accounting. As a professional in the industry he will teach you the easier way to do it and truly puts his heart and soul into caring for this students. 2 exams 50 points each, 100 Points Part. 200 Point Final. GL.
BEST PROFESSOR AT SJSU! CANT RECOMMEND PROFESSOR ROBINSON ENOUGH!
Awesome professor. Keep in mind my feedback is based on fall 2020 during distance learning - few hw assignments, two midterms, cumulative final, and a financial analysis project (very tedious). Attending class is a must, he grades you on participation (for zoom, must have camera on). Random opportunities EC. Material is a bit hard, study.
I had to take this for a major which sucks. The professor makes it mandatory to attend class and have cameras on. Majority of the grade is midterms and the final. Occasional homework worth 1 point. He's not used to zoom yet so it is just lecture. Also tends to go on tangents.
He was amazing! Really helpful. His study guides help with the exam! He is sarcastic, but he cares about his students and wants them to pass. The class is not hard if you show up to class and participate. If you participate and don't skip class, he rewards you at the end of the semester!
This proffesor thinks life is a movie. He talks a lot and thinks he's the best. The exams are take home. Gave grade boost to those who attended all his lectures SO MAKE SURE YOU DO THAT cause he REALLY cares bout that section. Your grade depends on your relation with him, make sure you are in his good books and he'll give you an A. Trust me on this
The accounting courses are hard in general, so you have to study. The prof goes off on random tangents and loses focus at times. He gives real-world scenarios and makes them a little easy to understand. There are 2 midterms and the final is cumulative. Class is mainly based on exams, a few hw assignments. You have to put in the effort in this class
He grades on attendance and you having your cameras on... If you have an issue with that, sucks for you, and there goes your grade... He often is off-topic in his lectures and gives take-home tests that take hours upon hours... I can tell he is a nice guy, but he is very cocky, and has a whatever he says, goes attitude.
Like most say, he goes off on tangents a lot. You are going to have to work hard and study in order to pass. Requires camera to be on or you lose participation. Couple of homework assignments (worth little) and some extra credit here and there. Two midterms and one final exam that are worth most of your grade.
Professor was extremely arrogant and tends to go off topic talking about sports. If you do not frequently show up to class avoid this class at all cost. He grades attendance and homework together. Some homework assignment seems to be busy work and has no correlation to the chapter. He is condescending and that's very off-putting.
He was such a harsh grader, I would get the answers right but since I wasn't specific enough with my answers like putting x amount of 'years' or 'days', he would mark it as 100% wrong, no partial credit at all. I ended up failing, and he even said some people didn't even turn in the final... That says a lot about the class...
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! Likes to go off topic and talk about things he relates to like sports or army. His class is mandatory attendance but his lectures is just him talking in the camera. No powerpoint or anything and likes to cold call. Exams are take home but he docks points for the simplest thing. Harder than upper division courses.
Terrible lectures that go off-topic every class. EXTREMELY difficult exams and Pop Quizzes in class, he will not tell you how to prepare for quizzes or when they are. When he leaves feedback on your graded work it is all illegible cursive. He's a nice guy but this class is insanely hard unless you're very comfortable with finance before starting
If you have noticed the sudden spikes of 1s then this is your chance to turn around and take a different teacher. That is all I am going to say.
Love this man
If you like pop quizes and study guides that don't help for the test then this class is for you. The prof is a great guy but misses the ball park with his teaching. Also crazy fact it took some students upwards of 3 hours to take the final !!!
Professor Robinson is a great teacher who genuinely cares about students doing well in his class. He was very lenient when grading by giving us partial credit, providing extra credit (review sessions), and grading using 2 systems to give us a better score. The class is only hard bc of the concepts, you have to put in the extra effort to practice.
Professor Robinson is knowledgable but expects students to know a lot about the subject although this is an introductory course. He is also sarcastic & unhelpful when students ask questions. There were a lot of pop quizzes that impacted your grade pretty severely & he grades tough. He's strict but it's not impossible to pass if you put in the work.
He is a great professor and knows accounting really well. He gives two midterms and adjusts his teachings based on how the class is doing overall. There are pop quizzes but its based on information he teaches in class. Its important to read the textbook and listen to his in class lectures. Overall, I highly recommend to learn basics of accounting
Todd Robinson has been my favorite Professor so far, if you have the opportunity to take him; do so. He gives amazing, natural lectures and believe it or not, made me understand the basic theory of accounting information systems. If you want to pass you will have come to every class, punctuality is part of his course obligation and it’s valid
This professor clearly shows his enthusiasm for teaching during lectures yet can be often problematic. He has made several remarks towards women that have been uncomfortable as well as sarcastic remarks that conflict the interests of his students.
Be prepared to study for his midterms. closed- book exams.
Gives a good amount of extra credit so DO NOT MISS CLASS, make sure you study for both midterms as they are closed book, majority of my section failed midterm two
Professor Robinson is good at what he does. Accounting is not an easy subject in general, and he tries his best to help us learn it. However, he doesn't believe in open-note exams, so prepare to study a lot, but he provides study guides. Also, a great tip is that perhaps the second midterm will be similar to first midterm.
My undergrad was electrical engineering so this class was not difficult theoretically. The professor has a lot of life experience and likes to tell stories related to the topic. As someone who has been working in industry for 6 years, it's refreshing to hear how things are done in the "real world" for accounting. He's also in the Army.
He's not an easy professor by any means, but still rather reasonable and the class is definitely worth it. Attendance isn't mandatory but it may as well be because it impacts comprehension so much. Lots of extra credit, generally interesting lectures, really interesting dude, and he really cares about each of his students which is cool to see.
He is a great professor - all lectures are very engaging, gives lots of extra credit. Attendance is not mandatory but highly encouraged.
super engaging and funny lectures. you actually learn more than accounting as he teaches life lessons too. also hands out extra credit, so be sure you do those because you'll need it. he's a tough grader, the exams makeup most of your grade, so you have to read the textbook and study because he doesn't curve or allow cheat-sheets for tests.
Professor Robinson is an amazing teacher! Really funny and inspirational. He will bump your grade up a letter if you earned a C- or higher and didn't miss more than two classes. He cuts down the midterms from 2 to 1. There will be a final project about doing a financial statement and a final exam.
Hilarious lecturer. Would take again. The 10k project is a tough one. All his exams are in person on paper. Do the homework and you should do fine.
Really an interesting man. Lectures are great. He is so funny! He says he is more of a practitioner than a professor and has wonderful insights and experiences of what public accounting is really like. If you want to pursue public accounting, or business in general, this is your guy. Take him.
Personally don't reckon taking classes with him if you're not gonna put in the amount of work & effort he expects out of students. His years of experience @ KPMG don't translate very well to his teaching style, keeps telling crazy stories that don't relate to lectures. Retaking this @ West Valley College w/ Laurie Hammond and doing much better.
Truly did not have a great experience in this class. It wasn't an insanely "hard" class. He talks more about being a veteran. Jokes around (full of himself) than showing us how to do the work. Hard to contact him, no answer to my emails. Get ready to teach yourself, study for a final worth 40%, and be there because he does roll call every class.
I'm taking the class right now and struggling. He is a difficult grader and he usually goes off topic during lectures. His exams are hard
Professor Robinson is hilarious, one of the realest professors at SJSU and wants you to succeed in life which is why he may be tough on his students. You have to really put in time to study for this class and the exams are tough, but he gives you so much extra credit and is there to help you if you need it. Just show up to class and pay attention.
Todd Robinson is extremely knowledgeable in the industry and it shows in his teaching. In terms of actual lecture material, he's great, but he goes off on random tangents to fill time and he's pretty loud sometimes. Final is like 40% of your grade but he's super clear on what goes on tests. One big project that can be group/solo. Would take again.
Talks about random stories for half the class time instead of teaching.
literally hated this class, only had a few mistakes on some homework. Final is literally the only thing that matters here.
Teaching is all over the place. Literally reads his lesson from a crumpled piece of paper from his dirty a55 briefcase. His writing on the board is very hard to read. Makes jokes abt women & abu5ing dogs. Get ready to teach urself accounting if u want to pass his class. The class average score for literal HOMEWORK assignments were always 70-75%.
Accounting is so incredibly boring and Prof. Robinson knows this, so he shouts a lot and tells random stories during lecture, which can be funny or intimidating depending on the topic. Homework isn't too bad, but check the exact time it's due. There is no late work, but he does give some easy extra credit to offset that. If you study you'll be fine
I love Papa Robinson. This class is heavy in the first 5 lectures and then gets significantly easier.
Save yourself! 80 percent of his class fails
Professor Robinson genuinely cares about his students and is a very caring professor. He is easy to reach and is very clear with what he expects. Do what he asks and go to class and you will definitely get a good grade. This class is hard but he makes the class fun and easy to understand because he's very knowledgeable. He's got some funny stories.
Professor Robinson is the best professor I have had during my past 2 years at SJSU! He genuinely cares about the success of his students and wants everyone to do well in his class. As long as you do what is asked of you and go to class you will be fine. He is a great professor and an even better story teller! I hope to have him again.
Honestly great professor. Has great lectures and great format where he covers a topic in class, does practice questions in class, gives homework that is similar to the stuff taught in class and then tests you on the same stuff on tests. He also offers a kicker if you have good attendance and tells really good stories sometimes in class.
Holy glaze, Mr. Robinson. Let's foot that baby up because the review below mine is fake. Must have been a fat finger error.
Best professor Ive had at SJSU, Go to class as well as his tutoring sessions and you will pass. Genuinely cares about his students and tells great stories while being a great professor! I had to retake BUS 120 and I am so happy I did it with him
He is the best professor for someone who wants to learn in class. He is a tough professor, but I totally believe that someone can easily get good grades.
The tests are like the main portion of the grade in the class including the project. You have to show up because of his attendance policy. If you don't read the textbook it will definitely be hard
Best professor I've ever had. Truly cares about his students and wants them to succeed. Took him for BUS20 and 21 and had a great time in both. He's inspirational and I can say he changed my life for the better. You work for the grade, but it's well worth it. He tells awesome stories and has real world experience. Take him if you get the chance.
Hands down one of the best professors in this entire school. Always had motivational talks and funny stories while teaching. Grading can be tough, but he does it so people could learn from mistakes. If you show up to class every day you get a 'kicker' which will boost your grade up from say B->A-. Take notes in class and you'll easily pass
Yells a lot trying to sound like some kind of motivational speaker. Says we shouldn't be afraid to ask questions but says things like "you're babbling" and "you don't make sense" to people who raise their hands. Tells too many stories unrelated to the class. Made fun of a girl who was using ASL. Very mean, makes you scan a pdf for HW.
best professor! has a way of simplifying concepts and genuinely cares for all his students. it really is tough love. he offers an extra credit opportunity to boost your grade! just show up, be resourceful, and motivated! you cannot fail this class.
One of the best professors I've ever had. Anyone that says he's a bad professor just cant handle real college coursework. His lectures are very engaging and he has lots of real world relevant experience. The class can be difficult at first but if you lock in you can gain lots of valuable knowledge. Couldn't recommend him enough.
Papa Rob is the GOAT. He is very knowledgable in accounting, among other subjects. Initially he can be seem very intimidating but he really just wants to teach. He has a big "tough love" kind of vibe but he is fair in grading and will give feedback on homework assignments. The class is super easy if you pay attention and read the chapters assigned.
This is the best professor I have had at San Jose State. People don't like him because he gives you a lot of work….its short 2-3 problems and thats what a great professor does. He wants you to learn and understand and all you have to do is go to class. He has no flaws in his teaching he teaches you with passion and is a funny and cool dude.
Papa Robby is the truth. A professor with real world experience in the field, and there aren't many professors that I've had at SJSU that care this much about his students. He WANTS you to succeed and cares about your effort and dedication to learn.
Foot this review up. Impossible to fail unless you genuinely don't try. tough grader, but only cuz he knows ur capable if you just apply yourself. Participation matters a lot; show up everyday and don't miss a single assignment and he rewards you as long as you pass with a 70. Gives chances for free points and good study guide so don't worry.
His split between Awesome and Awful is VERY understandable after taking the class. Take things to heart during his rants and stories(Most are funny), you'll write a negative review. Don't? It will be positive like this one. Great professor, and learned a ton in a subject I knew none about. Come to class, put some effort in, don't take if you won't.
Todd Robinson is the best professor I have ever had. Do NOT take the class if you want to breeze through. What you put into this class is exactly what you will get out of it. Ive never seen a guy who cares more about education than Todd Robinson. He should become the dean.
Very down to earth and caring. There's a type of family tough love from Professor Robinson. I think some areas of the grading feel very punishing early on. However, with consistent effort—showing up to class, completing the work, and keeping up with the readings—the class is manageable and engaging.
Professor Robinson is probably if not the only teacher I've had here at SJSU that actually makes you want to learn. He's very inspiring and has a tough love for his students. If you ever played sports you will notice almost immediately how he conducts the class like a head coach. Don't expect to coast in his class, you have to put the work in.
Professor Robinsion is honestly a GOAT. He gives you a kicker if you show up to every class, and he's really good at what he does. He tells real-life stories, wants you to succeed, and is genuinely a very nice man. Definitely take his class. It's not an easy class, but if you pay attention, you'll be fine. There's very little homework.
Professor Robinson is nothing but tough love. His work and his passion for accounting is off the charts, and he wants every student to succeed in life. The material is difficult, so make sure to attend class and also read the textbook. He gives out good amount of EC and he also tells stories in class about his life, accounting, or something else.
Papa Rob wants his students to be successful. He offers EC opportunities, kickers, and gives the students chances to boost their grades. He is very passionate about his work, and very experienced. He is more like a coach, and gives his students tough love coming from a good place. It's obvious he wants the best for his students, so don't skip class
Mr Robinson has a very unique way of teaching one of those teachers people that uses real life examples to back up what he's saying , he's not just teaching from a textbook , he's lived it and experienced it which is everything when it comes to learning from someone , he is a tough grader and is very militant in his ways but I respect it.
As other people said, lives by tough love. some people like that, but he definitely does make comments that would be seen as insulting or awkward in 99% of contexts. definitely cares, is knowledgeable and passionate, but his teaching style is very military "i'm going to be mean and tell you you're bad at this to make you want to do better"
Overall, great professor. Will say he is a tough grader he makes it a point that everything has to be done near to perfect in accounting. However, he has really good lectures and provides excellent resources to prepare you for exams.
