Great teacher. Up to date topics
very cool guy and I really enjoy his lectures
Great up to date lectures. Always uses new info. Very helpful and understanding.
really nice and also helpful... a good and patient prof (even when people are being dumb). his lectures are very clear, but be prepared to talk during them. participation is very important to him.
the most boring class i've ever taken. very relevant info, but he can't keep my attention because he is boring.
Schroer thinks he is smarter than everyone else b/c he has a Ph.D. He can be nice, but he can also be very condescending. He is extremely anal when it comes to writing papers.
Great teacher, very helpful, obviously knows his stuff. Covers a huge amount of material, only real problem is he talks MUCH MUCH to fast to keep up with most of the time.
good, but talks to fast to even understand at times...
very interesting teacher. Has great taste in music and beer.
he does talk kind of fast, but he is a good teacher who tells some funny stores that ties to the subjects. nots are a little vague, but he elaborates on them to help out a lot. not a bad teacher at all.
I think he is a great teacher!! Interesting lectures! Patient and willing to help! However, be prepared to read the assigned text and take notes..tests are a little hard. You couldn't have a better teacher though!
He is an awesome professor. He has an interesting personality and very funny comments. The tests aren't too hard if you study your notes and read everything assigned. He's a great guy and he's very helpful. Take him if you can!
He may talk too fast but at least I can understand what he is trying to teach. His experiences are also very interesting. Sorry about the glasses prof.
HORRIBLE!!! Avoid!
Has his own grading style for papers, no one has a clue what he wants , he fails about half the class, pretty mean and arrogant too. Not someone I would reccomend, if you can avoid him, DO IT!!! He will kill your GPA.
Not an har hard class. Study and read for his test and you will do fine. His grading on the research paper was to strict.
HORRIBLE!!! He wants u to fail! He talks way to fast, does not care if you don't understand, and his tests are HARD!! No extra credit, he doesn't even take attendance. AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!
I have had this man for NUMEROUS classes and I regret every single one. He is arrogant, misleading, and judgemental. He over generalizes people and topics. The worst is, he "knows everything" about parenting...yet has NO CHILDREN! Plus, no matter how hard you study...the tests will kill you.
Demanding, yes, but not impossible.
Class was interesting for the first half of the semester, the second half sucked and I was bored out of my mind. This prof. is a nice enough guy but he tends to always be right, and so long as you just don't argue with him and just let him be right, you'll be fine. You must keep up with the reading!!! Participation grade is stupid as hell.
talks fast, can not really answer questions a lot of the time, he gets red in the face and just kinda quits explaining...thinks he is always right, i would avoid him if possible
He talks very fast, but if you ask him to slow down he will. He seems very willing to answer any questions. His tests are not easy. Studying is required.
liked the class but he was a little dry.
Don't get on his bad side. If he decides he does not like you, no matter how hard you try he will make that class and future ones you have to take with him hell for you.
hard, arrogant, nerdy, stuck up, bratty, and eager to fail you!! avoid!! he isn't very nice either!!
This guy is way boring and he plays favorites. However it was a pretty easy class if you studied at all you could get good grades on the tests.

this guy is sooooo boring and talks too fast and doesnt really explain things and he uses such big words... do not take this class. he wants u to fail
No Comments
I thought his class was easy if you put the time into doing the papers and studying for the test. The powerpoint presentation was very straight forward. He can easily be interrupted with a question you may have and answers it appropriately.
Incredibly dry and boring. To be fair it could be the subject
WOW!! i am shocked at the neg. comments! I love this professor. Took him 2 semesters in a row! HE IS HARD, BUT GOOD!!! Just study a decent amount of time for the test and you will do great. I recommend him if you don't mind studing a little bit!
You definately need to study for this class or else you'll do bad on the tests. He is more than willing to help if you ask. This class is hard if your not willing to study.
I absolutely love this professor. His class can be hard, so you can't be lazy, but if you have any questions he is very willing to help. He explains things very well. Study for tests.
His tests are extremely difficult. He is nice, but almost seemed disappointed that people did well on the first test, and the 2nd test was nightmarishly hard. i wouldn't take him unless you have tons of free time to study every intimate detail of the textbook and class notes.
Social Construction of Drugs is an awesome class but be warned!!! If you only are taking this class because you think drugs are cool forget it! All the tests are 100% essay, there's an 8 page paper and you have to give a presentation at the end of the semester. I would suggest this class for any sociology majors though. Great and interesting class
I took every class this guy taught, and never got bleow a B+. he is very hard, and expects you to work, but you will get out of his classes whatever you put into them. "Hate Crimes" was one of his best, he is a real expert on **** groups, etc.,
classes are pretty hard and tests are even harder, but if you pay attention, read, and study you'll do fine. Checks REALLY well for plagerism in assignments and papers so be extremely careful. His classes are very informative and if you're a soc major, you'll probably end up taking at least one of his classes.
He is nuts. seemed to enjoy failing people. paper was final staw, he was failing people left and right for simple things. way to big of an ego...
he is the worst teacher. he has a big ego. you can make all a's and b's on your class work but when it comes to the paper if he dont like your paper he will fail you for the semester. he loves to make students cry. do not take his class.
I took Juv. Delinq., Social Construction of Drugs, and Criminology. Great classes and a great professor. Despite other postings, he is a very personable professor even though he has a tendency to grade rather hard on tests and papers. You learn what to say to get an A if you pay attention.
well, he is really hard, that is for sure. he grades papers rather unfairly and harshly compared to other profs. he seems like he wants to be helpful, but when you ask for help he really isn't helpful. unless you have to take him, i would try to get someone else.
if you can take someone else, do. He grades really hard and hes cocky bc hes really smart. He assigns like 40 short stories to read during the semester as well, dont read them, the test only have like 3 questions about them and he usually goes over them in class anyway.
worst teacher ever!!! If you dont have to DONT TAKE HIS CLASS. He sucks, isnt helpful and really doesnt care about you.
I love this professor. He is so helpful and really knows the material. Yes, you should study, but if you are in college & expect to just breeze through, then you should't be here. The papers & presentations aren't bad if you put forth a little effort. I recommend these classes, especially to SOC majors!!!!
He is so rude to students... has a smartass remark for everything... thinks everyone should be a perfect student and makes you feel stupid when you're wrong... oh, and don't try to "catch" him after class time cuz hes always in a hurry to leave exactly when we're supposed to... he just doesnt seem very interested in students...
This dude LOVES himself. He's so arrogant and tries to make things more intellectual than they need to be. For example, "aforethought malice." I have taken many classes dealing with criminology and we haven't ever used those terms. Wow, I could buy a thesaurus and be a jerk too if I wanted, I just prefer not to be that cantankerous.
This professor constantly reminds the class that at least 1/3 of us will fail. He also told us that many of us will do horrible on our essay assignment. He is VERY discouraging and makes a student feel stupid!
he constantly reminds us how bad we will fail
This guy is a jerk when it comes to grading assignments. I got As on the tests, (objective grading), but never made above a C on any assignments (subjective grading)! I apparently always did something wrong (?). Either way, he lets you know that he is difficult and tries to live up to that. Try to avoid him; there is much better at USI than him!
I think he sucks as a teacher and doesn't grade fairly. Even in a large class, he will still pick out the few he likes and give them special treatment. The rest of the class is screwed.
Tests are pretty easy. Assignments are garded harshly, but they don't effect your grade that much. He does talk about how 1/3 of the class will fail and how hard it is, but I found it pretty easy. But you must read and pay attention in class.
Love this professor's smart ass teaching style ! If you are taking his classes on drugs because you think drugs are cool, you WILL fail, but all the classes I have taken from him (4!) were the 4 most interesting classes I have ever taken on campus and I'm getting ready to graduate.
I am surprised by many of the comments. Yes, he's a hard prof, but this is college. Tests are short answer and if you study, not unreasonable at all. I think he's a great prof and makes class interesting. If you don't like to study or keep up with the readings, then find a different class.
He says you don't have to attend, but in order to get good grades you better. He's really smart and uses a varity of resources and materials.
This prof is full of himself. He likes to put students' ideas down to make himself sound better. Some things were interesting, but the professor made the class suck. He graded hard on assignments, but if there is a discrepancy, he will correct it. He was helpful when I talked to him before or after class. Other professors may be easier...good luck!
if you do the readings you should be fine
Dude is a hard teacher. Nice guy in real life but his teaching is terrible.
I enjoyed the seminar...yes, he's a little egotistical, but in his defense, he has a lot of knowledge to offer in his field. He'll grow on you. Overall, interesting and fair.
Don't take this guy--he's a terrible teacher. I got a B, better than most people in his class. Take this guy if you want to work your butt off and lower your gpa. I was a 4.0, but he fixed that for me. I have taken a lot of classes, and he was by far the worst teacher I have ever had. Steer clear people, this guy's an arrogant jerk!
Don't take this guy unless you're willing to spend 30 hous a week studying. Everything is powerpoint displayed on the projector, and you spend the entire class tryting to write it all down as fast as you can. If you miss a class....too bad! He needs to post the notes on line so students can listen to what he's teaching. And his tests suck, too!
really enjoyed the class. not too hard if you come to class and do the reading. went to his office once and he was extremely helpful. i would recommend him
Took him for Hate Crimes/Groups. Enjoyed the course. Very simple. Great professor.
Very opinionated. I found him to be irritating most of the time because of this. Otherwise, class wasn't too bad.
He is a very hard professor. For our first test I studied like crazy and received a D, then the second I studied even harder and got a C+. There is ALOT of reading and he won't remind you of it. It's a lot of material and he knows what he is talking about but he expects everyone else to know it too. try to avoid him but if you have to take him (lik
Yes, this class is difficult, but it's college. What do you expect? He was very knowledgeable, and many people think that's arrogance, when it's really not. Listen to the man, he knows his stuff.
I needed this class for my major, but I wasn't keen on the subject matter of Hate Crimes. It was a difficult class to get through due to this, but Dr. Schroer is very knowledgeable and if you ask for help he will give it. He may be hard, but college should be a challenge.
Don't understand negative comments. Good, dry sense of humor, not arrogant at all! All I can say is morons grow your ego; smart people grow your intellect. He definitely grows your intellect. Awesome professor, and extremely intelligent! Also, good at explaining and re-explaining if necessary. I'm trying to get more of his classes!!
Dr. Schroer is the worst teacher in the S.A.C. Dept I have had for a professor. His class is extremely boring, his power points do not flow well, and his teaching style is ineffective. He is polite and easy to approach, but I would definitely not recommend taking his classes. His class is not difficult, it is just that he is not a good professor.
He's a great guy. Super nice and pretty funny. He will reapeat and clean up any questions you have for him. He doesn't really keep my attention and that's where I have problems in the class. He is a pretty good teacher overall, but his tests are not anywhere near easy.
This guy is terrible! His power points are terrible, and don't flow. Very polite and easy to approach, still a bad teacher.
Dr. Schroer has very strict and specific guidelines within his courses. Individuals, who don't do well in his courses, generally fail to follow these guidelines. If you go to class, take GOOD notes, and study regularly you will be fine. You will not do as well if you study for his test and complete his papers the night before they're due.
I would have never taken this class if I knew what a terrible person he is. He is rude and could care less about his students. The semester started off with 20 students and at the end of the only had 9.
This class is a LOT of theory, didn't really get interesting until the end. Dr. Schroer speaks very fast but gets across the material he tests on. Tests come STRAIGHT from the study guide topics and were very easy if you knew the study guide well. The outside readings are covered by maybe one or two questions on the tests.
Difficult professor. He requires participation during class for points but usually makes you feel dumb for your answers. Not very encouraging. Powerpoints are messy and confusing. Tests are moderately easy if you follow the study guides. He wasn't too bad of a professor but not the best either.
Did not care for him AT ALL. He requires participation but then makes you feel stupid for your answers. His powerpoints are a mess and his tests are difficult to study for. Try to find another professor if possible.
By far the worst professor I have ever had in my 4 years!! Ignorrant to you when you ask questions and just makes you feel dumb... I wouldn't even recommend my worst enemy to take this class or any with him.. Just awful and terrible professor
As long as you put forth effort in reading and participating in class discussion you should do well. He takes time to help clarify material if you do not understand, but you must ask! Dr. Schroer is knowledgeable and does a good job of communicating subject matter
He is a great prof if your willing to put the time in for his class. You must ask question if you don't understand he will help and you will learn a lot. Do not take if you could care less about the subject he is not easy. Overall awesome
He is nice and is pretty enthusiastic. He says he doesn't have time to cover all of the important stuff in class so you have to learn a lot from the book. His PowerPoints aren't very helpful so you have to listen close to what he says. His assignments aren't long but he is a tough grader. This will be the second C I've gotten in my school career.
This professor is very knowledgeable about the material! He is very easy to approach whenever a student needs help. Be sure to read the textbook and be in class for unannounced in-class assignments!
Dr. Schroer is one of my top professors at USI. You will notice his leftist tendencies as they are apparent in his lectures, but he is very intelligent and thorough in his field and notes. I didn't agree with most of his political philosophy, but he was very open and friendly to all students, and is a great professor to learn from.
He is by far the WORST professor I've ever had!! He tells you in the beginning of class that people have to take his class 2 or 3 times to pass. Also he tells you that on the second test (theory test) it's almost impossible to get an A or B on it. He gave me 35 out of 50 participation points when I talked almost every day in class. Not helpful.
I have never taken a terrible class like this one before. It's by far one of the hardest ones I've taken. Not because of the course work or load, but how he taught it. He is not good with keeping things interesting at all. Everything that comes out of his mouth is monotone. I would not retake this class with him again, Ivy tech is my best bet .
Honestly, if you put forth effort by reading the assigned work and doing the homework to the best of your ability, this class is not that hard. He can be sarcastic and blunt at times, but I think he's just really honest with his students. Overall, I enjoyed this class & the lectures were interesting minus the statistics day, but that was expected.
I really liked this class and this professor. He was accessible outside of office hours and enthusiastic about what he was teaching. He doesn't take attendance but you will miss important lectures if you're not there, as his Powerpoints aren't very useful. I didn't do the readings as much as I should have, but I still did well without it.
Dr. Schroer is very knowledgeable about his field but seems to sometimes forget that his students are not masters of the field. He's very accessible outside of class but will sometimes make you feel stupid for answering a question or asking. He makes it sound like reading the book is crucial to your grade but you'll be fine without all the reading.
Kissing my Honors Program goodbye to this guy. Drones on and on through slides, gives essay style test that can be graded to his liking so who knows if you're actually wrong. DO NOT TAKE.
Absolute worst professor I have ever taken. Dont even know how he is a professor at USI.
Lecture is crucial!! If you dont show up you will NOT pass. readings not a big deal you can skim and be fine. His exams are all essays so you MUST know your info. He lectures like we are as knowledgeable on the topic as he is which can make it a bit difficult to keep up. He is very blunt, throws shade, and can make you feel stupid. Overall: good
Dr. Schroer is a bit of a tough grader, but he is usually reasonable and fair. He does have great lectures, but he may speak too fast for some people. If this is the case, it may be helpful to watch the lectures more than once. He was not kidding when he said the chapters need to be read carefully on top of watching the lectures.
Grades things to his liking, which makes doing your work very difficult. As well as your test grades. Very sarcastic when you ask questions as if you are supposed to already know certain things. I would not recommend.
Dr. Schroer is not my favorite professor, to put it nicely. He is very strict on grading, especially on his essay exams, which is how all exams were structured. He also was very condescending. Just overall not a great professor and not a great person either.
awful professor
This is the second course I have had that has been taught by Dr. Schroer. The first was in person and like many others have said he is arrogant and makes students feel as if they should also have their PhD in the subject. I currently have him online (not by choice) and his grading style is simply whatever he wants it to be. Avoid taking him.
Very, very bad and difficult. Questions on tests were meant to trick you. Felt like he was trying to give out bad grades. Very nitpicky and more than willing to take off points for anything and everything.
I have taken Dr. Schroer twice, and despite the rating, I am taking him again. His classes take WORK. I managed to get an A both times I took him, but I had to make his classes the top priority to pass. He knows what he is talking about and has interesting lectures, but he can be rude and is a harsh grader at times.
If u are going to school to learn and not to just skate by and do nothing then u should have no issue. He can be rude but I think it's bc he thinks he is being funny and not to cut you down. He often will back down on what he was saying w a laugh. I had him for 2 classes and now a 3rd and I am happy, not all professors need to be ur best friend!
The class is quite challenging, but using unstuck ai along with the textbook can really help. Lectures are valuable, but speak fast, so rewatching them is a must.
This was the most difficult professor I have ever had. His tests are essay-based, and it is hard to tell what he was looking for. He was very condescending and made me feel stupid for asking questions. There were so many additional readings, videos, and websites to visit. His classes forced you to put your other priorities on the back burner.
