This Jesus look alike does what he can with what he has. You have to read each chapter as he explains them or else you will not understand it. He gives out hw 3 times with three weeks to do it. The material is hard in general.
If you go to Todd and talk to him about any trouble you're having, he'll listen and understand. He's clear in class yet he does absolutely nothing to prepare you for the exams. He says it himself that he's lazy. Also, he's very unhelpful when you ask him to help you with a problem you don't understand.
He's a pretty good professor, compared to the other math teachers in john jay. Explains all his work great. Gives three exams which you must study for, and a final. If you want to do really good in a math class, take him, hes worth it...
i don't think he looks like jesus, more like russell brand...aside from his looks and oddities, saying he's sarcastic is an understatement, but his classes are fun and he covers it with ease, but if you're struggling with class-beware, he lacks patience, overall great teacher
Very goo professor, very sarcastic ! LOVED his class. Just attend class and do your work ! If he sees that your really trying, he will pass you
He's a pretty cool guy, slightly sarcastic but you get used to it. His class is relatively easy as long as you pay attention, he knows what he is talking about.
Stambaugh is awesome. If you pay attention and study you WILL pass his class he runs through everything you will pass. He gives alot of homework but it helps you learn the material. He has a dry sense of humor which I find hilarious.
Professor Stambaugh is amazing I loved his class and didn't miss a day of it. His exams are a little easy. I think he should make it more chanlenging since everyone is complaining so much. I think he does his best to make the exam so everyone can pass. I hope he teaches Calc 3 ....
Professor T. Stambaugh gives his furthest effort to help his students achieve their potential in math. Do not complaint if you don't show up for class or if you don't do the assigned homework. If math is not your strength, too bad, choose pathways. Over all, T. Stambaugh is a great asset to John Jay College!!!!!!
Todd is a good teacher, he knows his stuff. If you come to class & do the homework you will pass. I am not good at Math and I got a B.
He is really boring. This professor just continues to talk and talk and he has no expression. His face is just so bland and he doesn't show joy in his work. It's like he doesn't enjoy coming to class to teach. Almost as if he's forced.
YOU DONT FEEL HAPPY TAKING THIS CLASS, LECTURE IS BORING AND THIS PROFESSOR JUST KEPT TALKING AND TALKING, NOT GOOD AT EXPLAINING THINGS. HIS TESTS ARE HARD THO, I MEAN COMPARE TO HIS LECTURE, YOU BETTER BE A GOOD SELF-LEARNER TO TAKE HIM. I USED TO THINK I AM GOOD AT MATH AS AN ASIAN STUDENT, BUT THIS PROF BUILT UP MY SHADOW.....
Professor Stombaugh is not bad, Calculus II did get a little bit intense but I managed to pull A's and B's on every exam! If you do end up taking Calculus with Stombaugh you must buy the text book and and practice, everything will be directly from the text book! The Homework is webassign based :( No re-extensions on HW make sure you do it!
HE was awesome for Calculus 2! What I like about Stombaugh is the fact that he does not hand out passing grades! You get what you get, he cruves a little bit but its all on you! The amout you study and how motivated you are to pass.
Wanna take this professor? THINK AGAIN! Probably the worst professor in John Jay. DO NOT take this professor. He cannot teach properly, has the worst expression on his face, doesn't care about his students, doesn't give reviews for tests, finals. He doesn't like to answer the questions you have for him. REALLY BLAND! Do yourself a favor, skip him.
NOPE! Don't take this professor. He looks like a cool guy but is not at all. He looks like he hates working. Tough grader, can't teach at all. Comes into class and slaps on a question, says "so how do we do this?", does it and then when you have a question, he gets frustrated. What kind of professor does that? DOESN'T REMIND YOU ABOUT HOMEWORK!!!
do yourself a favor and choose another professor. Although i passed his class, forget about it. never again! never taking him again. so many student complained about him how he can't teach at all. he doesn't remind us about homework and he hates his job. do not take him. do NOT!!!!!!!!
Prof. Stambaugh is one of the best math professors I have had as a math minor. His grading criteria is clear, he does assign a lot of hw which can be overwhelming but looking at the bigger picture, it's very useful. His exams are not as hard as the hw on Webassign and he does drop the lowest grade. WARNING: he counts the final twice. Amazing prof!
Do no take him!!! He knows his stuff but is bad at teaching. He barely explains anything and gets upset when people have questions. Always looks bored and uninterested in actually being there! The class is really boring. Definitely would not take it again
Personally, I like math and I found prof. Stambaugh to be very good. He does give a lot of hw but the exams are easier. He is always willing to help and wants people to participate. In my class no one would talk, nor participate at all which made the class boring. He is very knowledgeable.
Had him for MAT141 and taking him again for calc2. Many people don't like his style of teaching but he makes things so easy to understand!! The only thing is to actually participate cause he hates it when no one asks questions. He doesn't just hand out answers and makes sure you understand what you are learning. Highly recommend!!!!
He gets annoyed if you don't participate, made our class work independently on the section outlines which nobody actually did. Online homework often has nothing to do with test and can easily be found on math websites. A study guide is given out before the test with a link to online videos watch and memorize the steps and you'll do great.
Stambaugh was a quiet interesting professor, he requires you to participate and ask questions, if you don't he becomes really upset. He prefers you to understand the material rather than memorizeing steps. His biggest flaw is his sacarcism. If you ask him a question with little explanation he will answer back sacarcitsly causing students to laugh.
The overall structure of the class is very straight forward. There are three tests given throughout the semester, and tons of extra credit offered. That is essentially the best part because as an overall professor, he is okay. His lectures aren't too bad but he offers no good examples to help you with homework. I dont reccomend him.
I like math but he is too much. a lot of homework for no reason. no reviews. he curves the final grade though
Dude, he is a cool teacher. And funny, lol. He likes the students who answer his or ask him questions. I am good at math, so the class is very easy for me. However, some other students are not. It looks like that they are so tired every day. What you need to do is taking more sleep, taking notes, doing homework carefully. He is a very nice teacher.
This professor is the best example of a professor who knows his math but can't teach. Not only that, but his class made me depressed because he doesn't seem to like teaching his students. If you take him be prepared to study on your own. GL:)
I'm his former student. He is still among the best of professors I have ever taken. His lecture is very stepwise. But for taking his course, you must have some math ability. He cannot teach you simple math on class. It really takes time and the schedule will lag behind. For those students not satisified, he even curve the grade. What do you want?
I took Calc II with Professor Stambaugh during the summer session so I knew it was going to be fast paced. I just dont know why people complain about him - hes really nice and want people to learn. Yes, he gives a lot of homework but its all good practice for his tests and final. Showing up for class, studying and taking notes are necessary.
Not all intelligent people should try to teach. He is very intelligent, but lacks the ability to relate material to students that are learning it for the first time. Extremely sarcastic and demeaning when you ask questions. It is extremely likely that you will not feel comfortable asking him questions. Get familiar with Kahn Academy or tutoring.
This is why people who are passionate about their subject SHOULD teach. Im not paying to watch live reenactments of Khan Academy. Stambaughs lectures balanced practical and interesting. He welcomed questions and explained things multiple times if asked. A lot HW, but he must get WebAssign notifications because hed help at any time, thankfully.
I loved taking MAT108 with another professor the prior semester. Unfortunately I enrolled in this course without checking rate my professor. He expects you to learn on your own by solely reading from the textbook outside class rather than explaining the concepts in class. If you ask a question he just responds with "What does the textbook say?"
i took him over the summer for 105 and now im taking him for 141 but i liked him better over the summer. his teaching style remained the same, lots of notes (which i like), but his test are now a different format and instead of using ALEKS were using a site called webwork which is so simple that its complicated. it doesnt help me learn like ALEKS
Hes knows the information but hes isnt good at teaching the course. Expects you to do the majority of the learning on your own. The website, WeBWorK, is abysmal. His explanations arent great. Hell answer your question sarcastically or just give you a non-beneficial answer. You really want to do well in 141? Take someone else. Trust me.
Provided a free online textbook for the course. Homework assignments online through webworks; they have due dates but he eventually re-opens them at the end of the semester so you can try to get a higher homework grade. Had three exams and one final. Drops the lowest grade. Ask questions if you get confused he will help you understand.
He is the WORST math Professor I ever had. the reviews for text exams are horrible. and he gets annoyed if you ask him certain questions that you don't understand. He knows the material but can't teach at all. He does not engage with his students and let them know where they are in his class or how to improve.
Not a good professor. Should have checked here before taking the course. He knows the material, but struggles to teach or make the information clear to his students. Tough grader, takes points off if it's not done his way.
DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASS WITH HIM!!! The class itself is extremely interesting but he is boring and not good at explaining the topic. I just learned it from textbook. It is extremely difficult to please him. He is very tough grader and you HAVE TO write as he wants! The class' average midterm grade was 48.5!!! DO NOT CHOOSE HIM!!!
He sucks, that's all I'm going to say. He barely teaches and compared to other math professors in John Jay he does not compare. He barely explains the course, he goes off his computer. He provides no extra credit and does not even give in class work to make sure you understand before you go home. Take another professor if you don't want to fail.
He's awesome. His behavior is unique, a bit strict but upfront and clear about all the rules and policies of the class. He is disappointed when no students talk or raise their hands. I'd say hes a unique professor with a good sense of humor and sarcasm, I didn't do so well on the homework tho but he curved SLIGHTLY thanks man for passing me XD
He's a funny and good professor. Ask for help he's always willing to help. I'm terrible at math but he made things understandable. Show up, no extra credit.
All i gotta say is this man left me traumatized after dropping the course. Do not take him.
This guy is awful in discrete math. Even before the pandemic, he was terrible. He word for word said that "If you think you will pass the exam with only lecture notes you are wrong". He gives daily homework which isn't graded. For the departmental final, he will give the test only strictly on the blackboard. You have a test guideline to follow.
The most rate was right. He is terrible. It was almost painful to watch him when he shows his humor and try to be funny in the class. What makes him worst is that he is a VERY hard grader. He doesn't know that when the class average is that low, that is professor's fault, but he doesn't care and of course he doesn't even curve the grade. avoid him.
DO NOT TAKE. Worst Professor EVER.
IfYou dont follow his way of solving questions, then be ready to lose points. Start losing points even if you are a second late. 0 practical, only theory and writing definitions on the board. Will make you read chapters from the book, will make you do everything at home. Come to class, watch him writing the book on the board, and laugh at his jokes
makes you work for your grade. Throughout the semester, he was more than happy to help out if needed. It's true he's a tough grader & he doesn't curve, but he is good if you pay attention in class and do the daily homework that he does not collect. In the beginning, he asked the class how we wanted to class to run 2 small tests 1 midterm 1 final
Do not take him !!! The worst ever please do not take this guys, care only about his personality try to show up land make his point Save your time . Avoid him
No matter what trust me you can find better cause this professor is terrible do not know how to teach at all even during the pandemic that professor do not care like the world go around him self only too proud to realize his poor teaching skills . Please save your life because you have to teach yourself .
Do not trust his sense of time. He gives heavy exams.
Dr. Stambaugh was by far the most organized, communicative, and reasonable professor I had this semester. No lectures, just a weekly small group meeting, but he was always responsive to questions and clearly wants us to learn and succeed. Straightforward, easy tests that focus on the concepts. Thank you for restoring my self-confidence in math!
Worse professor I ever had. Avoid him like the plague. Tough grader even using the publisher answers he would still mark mine wrong. I asked for help instead he just mocked me and said I can start with grammar and spelling first.
If you are bad/mediocare at math be prepared to get an F.
There are way better professors and I highly suggest not taking him and spending your money elsewhere
If you are looking to fail a class, take this class, He will show you the true meaning of evilness. He brings joy at failing his students, especially with virtual assignments or interview. You will never pass his exams without explaining every single step you took. You won't even have credit if you get the answer right.
To begin learning a new topic for the first time, it should be explained as if you are teaching to a toddler. There really no examples in the book that breaks down the topics covered. The teacher means well but teaching is not his strong point. This class gave me emotional distress, I had to sign up for a tutor 3x/week and watch Youtube videos.
The professor did not grade my quality of work accordingly. Whoever took this class failed it or barely passed and simply did not care for his job. I had to take this class because it was one of the few that had little to no students and most classes at cuny were filled up by june. ( when I was accepted to John Jay) Take another prof! avoid him.
It feels like this professor has no idea what he is doing. He would want you to ask him questions about what you didn't understand but if you don't understand anything at all then what are you supposed to ask? My problem with him is that even if you asked him to understand and teach us he would refuse and say that wouldn't help. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!
This dude needs to take class on how to teach. Doesn't care about students, tests are extremly hard, gives tons of hw without explaining anything in class. Never showed his face and never gives feedback on work. Avoid him at all cost, he's probably the worst math professor in John Jay. Also, their quizzes in very class and they are extremly hard.
Prof throws the book at you and expects you to understand. And if you have questions then he answers them during class. Weekly quizzes, hws and group assignments. He grades harshly so put maximum effort. This is definitely a hard class with a lot of material so get ready to study. I don't like his teaching method but the dude isn't that bad
WORST PROFESSOR EVER! Does not teach; only tells you to read the textbook by yourself. Lab proponent is only taught for an hour requiring you to self teach for the next 3 hours. Gives you 2 group projects due every week, partners will switch up every month. Will not accept any excuses when asked for extensions even if its an emergency. No gr curve.
Too much work with group members who won't care. The professor is lowkey rude but can be alright sometimes. It's hard to tell the difference to be honest. Pick another when registering for class.
Expects students to do everything on their own. All he does is just put up weekly Modules and things he want you to read and post video links and tutorials and expect you to ace the weekly group projects based on weekly modules. Please choose another professor if you want your semester going smooth because this class will give you a lot of stress.
Difficult class made much more difficult with the fact that we are pushed to do group work every week. Lots of homework to top it all off! The in-person lecture is just a recap of the reading. Half the people in the class dropped, as I did as well. Would look for a different professor that has no group work.
PowerPoint presentation due every week on bb, hw is due every sunday on webassign, 2 exams, 1 final, 3 labs, software used was R. It's a lot of work, didn't like his teaching style, hw does not align with exams and final. Makes you do all the work. You'll have to teach yourself ALL the material.
This guy is just a straight up terrible teacher. I never had to drop a class until I met Todd. He overwhelms you with work. If you work please don't take his class you won't survive. You can do everything correctly but in his eyes there is always something wrong. Stay away from this "teacher". Many of the students in his class we're overwhelmed.
Professor has a dry personality but means well. He believes that if you work hard and reach out for necessary help you are serious about his class, which he appreciates. GROUP PROJECTS ARE CONSTANT! We have the same group up until the unit test and each week you are working on two presentations at once. On top of that, there is homework. Work hard.
He's a good professor but is really demanding
This professor made sure to go through lectures very slowly. He is very understanding and pushed the exam dates twice. Exams are very easy if you utilize the study tools, make sure you write everything you know about the problem because he gives credit for work not just the right answer. Definitely recommend for MAT 105!
NUMBER ONE THING: DO THE ALEKS!!! There's homework and quizzes on there that will be a portion of graded work. We had an exam per packet. He taught clearly and never made you feel like you couldn't ask a question for clarification. I enjoyed his class. He'll say to work with someone on a set of questions and then go over them as a class (rare)
DO THE ALEKS. I got an A on almost every test and hw assignment, but ended with a B because I did not meet the time for Aleks. Pretty easy material and a good teacher, but it does sometimes feel like class goes too slow.
You can reach out to prof very easily outside of class on email or discussion board, but I would not recommend if you prefer having a prof who will teach the material in full depth or makes lessons memorable. His lectures are boring and he only gets into topics at the very last 5 minutes of class, get ready to learn everything on your own or on YT.
Uses ALEKS, need to meet 60 hours by the end of the course. Handful of exams, but are fairly easy. Easier than I thought going into the class. Lectures are boring, but you learn. I recommend watching youtube tutorials as practice if you're confused,
I saw a review on here that said he knows what he's talking about and he knows the material but he teaches it too fast or high level. He teaches without dumbing stuff down sort of, it's like he forgets we don't know the material like he does. But, pro is that he gives extra credit opportunities.
Prof Stambaugh is an amazing professor, he's very knowledgeable about his subject and super confident. He doesn't try to get to know the student and digs straight into the material. Do complete your Aleks and try increasing your pie, it helps a lot. 4 exams in total. It's not that hard, as long as you try your best, and contact him for help.
It is only the second week of class and I have a low grade because of the way he grades the weekly quizzes. Nothing is saving your grade if you don't ace those quizzes.
Teacher is awful where as he only cares about himself , never takes any regards on the students. During class his explanations and the way he teaches is extremely fast and I found myself lost half the time when he taught things. As for the quizzes, he has quizzes each day but they are based on future topics we have not learned yet.
He does not teach math in the class rather teaches literature. He starts talking in one point and finishes in another and by that time you are lost . He takes the quizzes in the class without talking about them and subtract number for words you have written . If anything is wrong he does not explain why. I really have not learnt anything from him.
This professor is very nice; he likes to engage in conversation with students and makes a lot of jokes.
Great pace, has many reviews, and loves participation. "No phone" policy. ALEKS is easy, just 5 hours a week. 3 quizzes, one final. We had no midterm. Posts a very detailed test practice on brightspace. Use it. Note that missing a class is a bad idea but you can catch up semi-easily. Do not stress this class because ALEKS will help you study.
Great Professor! He encourages everyone to understand their work and how they got there. Make sure you have your ALEKS completed every week! He's great at explaining some work. It's important to show that you are putting a lot of effort into your work. Participation is crucial!! Make sure you take advantage of the tutoring offered at MSRC.
He will do some talking from time to time at the start of the class but once you get into the swing of things after the mandatory quiz at the start of each class based on the reading from the text book. The class is very easy if you just pay attention, go home and apply yourself. He makes it very clear on how to pass and what to do to pass.
Good professor, learned a lot, clear, tough, and fair.
bad professor, wouldn't recommend
Insanely boring class if you take it in the afternoon. No phone policy, it felt like I was in an asylum by how quiet it was. Only thing that kept me sane was the sound of the air filter and fan. Tries his best but he's very monotone, jokes around sometimes. Do your Aleks. Would never take again.
