He the funniest, best, most helpfull, wonderfull teacher I ever had. But his tests are hard a little bit, I mean u have to study a lot for them ;).

He is a cool guy and makes class fun but his test are kind of hard, but if you show up everyday and study should be easy.

Very easygoing, whitty, and funny guy. He makes chem interesting, but his tests are VERY hard. They require a lot of studying and understanding.

Tests are extrordinarily hard!!! Try and sit 6 hours for a final exam, you may just need to for his course (he gives you that much time because tests are so long and so difficult). Good professor, just be prepared!

Dr. whitaker is a very good teacher he is very easy in 241 if you study the notes on ucompass i didn't even buy the book (can get an easy A)but he gets harder in 242, you need to seriously use your brain and this suck. :-)

Dr. Whitaker is a very great instructor. He devotes his time to teach the student the material compeletly from A to Z. I'm glad that I took him for both Organic 1 and 2. Very knowledgable, and smart. If you want a good Organic chemistry background for a life time, dr. Whitaker is the name HFCC.

He is a very good teacher...but the tests are very hard...also the labs are unneccessary!! He only counts the the midterm and final!!

Perfect is the best word to describe this genius. He's cool, sweet and very dynamic. He made me love chemistry. He's very cute and easy going. If you take this class somewhere else you'll miss a lot of knowledge.

He is the best Chemistry teacher I have ever had. He is not an easy A. However you will earn the A if you work hard. He does a GREAT job at explaining the material his tests are long and hard BUT alot of extra credit. He prepares you very well for Medical and Pharmacy schools. Dr. Whitaker should teach at Harvard, he's a very rare genius!!!!!!

He is the best teacher i had in y life i was going to the dental school but when i took his classes , ........'';;.. and now am going to the chemistry major. I suggest for every one going to pharmacy medical dental take all the orgo classes with him , work hard u be in your goal.

he's a nice professor, but he rushes thro the lessons. his tests are soooooo long and require so much studying, need lots and lots of memorizations. If u work and go to school then u definitly shouldnt take his class it requires a lot of time of studying for u to pass because he rushes thro all his lessons.

Do not slack on the studying for this one. The concepts are not terribly difficult, but it is a lot of material and you must study hard from the very beginning. Dr. Whittaker is a good teacher, but is not trying to help anyone get an A. He has an unusual grading system and his test cover EVERYTHING! Study hard and good luck.

Dr.Whitaker is by far the greatest teacher in the history of teaching. He knows how to teach this stuff, and knows how to keep it interesting. He is a rare genius. He knows this stuff like the back of his hand. Tests are hard, so study hard, and trust me you will develop into a better overall student after learning this material.

The tests are very hard which goes along with the subject. There is on-line homework which is abreeze. Lecture is a must if you want a good grade. Overall a good professor.

I took all 3 chm classes with him and got all A's, he is the best,a genius, a great teacher, so nice and helpful,but his exams are hard and long, he does that to prepare you for anything u may go into and not to get back at students so study very hard for his exams i recomend from the 1st day and dont miss any classes and do the hm then ur great.

This teacher is amazing!! I absolutely love him. At first I was scared for orgo because of the crazy horror stories, but he made learning orgo a breeze. I actually understood the material. And if you dont he is there to ask questions. I would definitely recommend him as a teacher. He is the best. I am taking Orgo 2 with him next semester!

Very nice and very helpful, his class requires a lot of studing so make sure you attend his office hours if you don't understand something. take notes in lecture and make sure to follow the online materials in the class. The man really knows the subject and if you are a medical major make sure you take this class with this professor

I've been through all this guy's classes, and i can say that he is the nicest guy in the world to kick you right in the face. I swear, his test are of epic proportions and nothing about any of whitaker's classes is easy. He's one tough customer, but at least you'll leave the class knowing orgo like you know your name.

I took him over the spring, and it was fast paced. It would have been easier to do over the fall or winter. I know he's a really tough teacher, BUT If you put int he time to get an A or B in his class, you aren't going to forget orgo anytime soon. I'm taking the PCAT next semester, and I'm way ahead of everyone in orgo. The reason: I took Whitaker!

Dr.Whitaker class make you feel professional, and put you on the right track to the medical school. I had him for Orgo1 and know for orgo2..He is the best teacher ever!!!!!!!!!

I was worried about taking this class but i ended up getting an A. If you attend class and pay attention you will get a good grade. I dont consider myself even close to a Genius and I got all A's of every exam, but you have to study He is clear and helpful. Great teacher, I recommmend him.

Yes, his tests were long but if you knew your stuff and studied you would do just fine. I didn't use the book for his class I just studied from the notes and the online homework also helped me. this is the hardest professor in the world. he teaches like its a graduate course. extremely difficult, and only take him if you are highly motivated for chemistry or you will fail. its not just a matter of being smart and studying, you NEED to be motivated to PASS his class. exams are about 3 hrs, and you need to study every single day.

This is probably the best Organic Chem teacher you can ever have. He explains things clearly, hands out practice tests. Dr.Whitaker is the smartest chem prof..if you're looking 4 an easy A in org take it somewhere else.if you've taken chem 141@hfcc and did not get an A easily then don't take him bcs you'll drop the class..A is attainable,A+ is impossible.overall he's a great teacher and a lenient grader bcs his tests are long and not easy.he's funny you'll like him.

All the kids tht want to go to med school should take Dr. Whitaker. His class shows how to study massive amounts of material, and thats what med school is like. Even his tests are like standardized. He is one tough cookie, but you will be ready for medical school after taking him. He provides enough resources to get atleast a B if you put in time.

The most brilliant professor I have met up to date. Keeps the lecture very interesting, and puts you in the right position to study. Exams are not impossible if you study daily. And for the students who like to whine about how hard the class is. 411: If you take this class somewhere else, you have to put in atleast as much time as with him, because Dr. W atleast organizes the material, so you know what to study. If you take this class somewhere else, you will be stuck with ur nose in the textbook with just as much studying

THE BEST professor I have ever had the chance to take (and I took MANY classes in my college career). Extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and dedicated. I would recommend him for any student that is serious about school and is looking to go beyond a community college. This class is hard but it is definitely worth the effort.

honest to god this is the most fun and unique class i ever took in my life. you don't need much knowledge about genchem to do good in this class. just pay attention and study 2 hours daily, and you will do good. requires ALOTTTTTT of practice in order to get an A or B. i got an A in this class even though I got a B in 141 and 142. awesome teacher

I took this class as a guest student from a 4 year university. Completely changed my outlook on OChem. By far the best prof. I've encountered in my academic career. Provides all the necessary tools and material to do very well. The class is difficult, but he makes it enjoyable and breaks the material down perfectly. Thanks DTW!

this guy was hardest professor I have taken in my life but you learn a lot of things in his class. I have taken 241,242,243,244 with him very nice guy and fair. the only thing I can tell you is if you decide to take this class study hard. THIS CLASS IS NOT A BLOW OFF CLASS.

he is the best teacher in the world. he makes the class hard so when you get to med school or pharmacy school you are prepared to manage the high volume of studying. his class is 100% doable because he gives you tons of examples. he tests on everything though. even if you get a B or C in his class its still worth it in the long run.

Alot of controversy over this professor. He teaches the class in a way that anyone can understand. Really catches your attention. I took ochem before and let me tell you this, having a professor not teach ochem properly makes the course harder to learn than to have a well taught lecture accompanied with hard exams. whitaker is the BEST professor

really straight forward professor. go to lecture, do the online handouts, read the book, and you will definitely get an A in the class. i fail to see how some people can just expect to go to class, study a day before the test, and expect an A. do that for any class beyond the 100-level, and you are screwed.

i like this guy. he gives ton of practice material which is required to master organic chemistry. i took the same class at wsu, but failed...NOT because I didn't know the material, but because I wasn't provided with proper practice material. Other ochem profs should learn from him.

Best man teacher I have ever encountered!

One of the best profs I have ever had, and he is a really good guy. However, his exams feel like graduate level organic chem. There's no reason exams should take 3 hours (4+ for the final).

ok i just got accepted to msu com. the first thing they asked me during my interview was why i took ochem at a community college. next question, why did i get a C in it? if u think they take hfcc's classes seriously rethink ur best choice. his class is too hard and doesn't help prepare for anything unless u plan on becoming an organic chemist

if ur a pre-med, then please do urself a favor and wait to take this class at a 4-year university. CC credits don't hold much weight when it comes to graduate admissions. and when u get a bad grade at HFCC, which most likely you will in this class, you will shoot away your chance for acceptance. take it at UMD, wayyyyy easier.

This was probably one of the hardest and most challenging class I've ever taken. I have had straight A's in 11th and 12th grade, as well as 1st year in college, but this was my first B+. I would recommend taking it with least classes possible on schedule,as it need a lot of studying. Pay super attention in class and take as many notes as possible.

He is a very good teacher in terms of making difficult ideas easy to understand, but his tests are incredibly long and difficult. His labs aren't difficult but they are very time consuming. You cannot miss lectures and you have to study hard.

DR.W is the best of the best he's extremely brilliant and is passionate about chem. Test are hard you might be blindsided by the first exam I failed the first one but he drops one exam then I got all A after that great help in lab and just all around a good prof. If u study u will do great if not expect to fail. He posts all notes and is helpful.

Greatest teacher in the world. You go to class to learn from him. You go home and do all the handouts and homework. This class is all about practice. And if you practice, the exams are actually not that bad. The amount of practice material he provides is very good compared to the exams. And he doesn't let the subject get boring at all.

Orgo is not an easy class. If you're expected an easy A, don't take it, period. But I must say, Dr. Whitaker is wonderful! He's passionate, helpful & really cares about his students. His book is a must & really good. Go to class, study & practice from previous exams & you'll do very well. PRACTICE is key! He's not hard, not easy. Exceptional prof.

Dr. Whitaker is an AMAZING professor! Yes the subject is hard but it's Orgo, what do you expect? He is very passionate and makes class super intresting. The lectures are very helpful. He will definitely prepare for graduate school. What I found to be most helpful was to read the chapter before lecture. If you want to be successful take this class!

I liked him. Made the material easy to understand and cares about the subject. Quite funny. Most of the grade from exams, but have to work for your grade. Exams are long, but don't need to finish the entire thing to get an A, does have a lot of extra points available. Book is essentially everything from lecture, but helps in clarifying.

Dr. Whitaker is a very nice guy who knows a lot about what he's talking about, but it seems like he expects a lot out of you, possibly more than you can handle. His grading criteria is vague, but he usually ends up grading easily on essays. You must show up to class to understand the topic. If you want to do well you MUST study and study hard!

The people that are saying that he is a horrible instructor clearly never applied themselves in class. It is a hard class, yes, but you need to apply yourself and rework all the material. Easiest A in HFCC.

This teacher is amazing. He gives a lot of extra credit in his exams. I love the way he teaches. Get ready to practice a lot; otherwise you will have a hard time managing the class' criteria. Make sure you read carefully and understand ALL INFORMATION THAT IS GIVEN IN EVERY PAGE.

He has a lot of work that needs to be done in this class. If it was not mandatory to go full-time in the honors program, the amount of work would not be too much, but with all the other courses, it's a lot. But he's funny and very caring and truly wants his students to succeed. Overall a great guy and teacher!

Organic chemistry is no joke no matter where you go, but if I had to choose a teacher, I would definitely choose him. He really knows his stuff, he wrote the textbook! He truly wants all his students to pass and never makes you feel stupid when you're failing. He's a difficult choice, but the best choice if you're truly wanting to learn.

The course itself is tough so you have to spend a good amount of time on your own studying you cant just rely on lecture. You must work for your grade it won't just be handed to you. He was a great teacher, considering how difficult this class was. Going to his lectures was pretty important, mainly because if you miss just one lecture, you feel very behind. He curves alot, and truly cares about every student there is in his class. His online work provides a chance to earn lots of EC and bring your grade up. One of the best @HFC

He is an excellent professor. He knows his materials very well, and he is the one who wrote the organic chemistry textbook. A very helpful teacher and offers a lot of extra credits.

Attending class is important. Explains things as if you already know, so you do have to teach yourself a lot. I never figured out the best way to study, but he does provide exam examples online that helped figure out the format and type of question he will ask. He does curve grades. Online homework took a while but he will give you more time, ask.

Heres how to get an A. Study the practice exams to study for the exams theyll help you the most. Do the hw at the end of each chapter before you start the practice exams. Read chapter before class. GO TO CLASS. Ask questions. Draw the mechanisms over and over again. Study everyday. Hes a great professor and likes to really push his students.

One of my favorite chemistry teachers, and teachers in general , EVER. He is good at lecturing first of all. No surprises on the tests, second of all. He is a very humble teacher, open to the most simplest of questions and always there to help. Effort, effort, EFFORT is all it takes in this class. He deserves a perfect score.

Dr. Whitaker is one of the best professors Ive had so far. The first time I took it, I failed the course because I didnt take it seriously. I wasnt paying attention in class and I was lost. But I took it the following semester, and I was one of his best students. You just need to read his book and show up. Hes my fav professor to date.

I took him a few years ago, and just finished my undergrad. He is hands down the best prof for Ochem. His exams are really tough, but manageable and slightly curved. I put in 15-20 hours per week outside of class, and was able to pull an A. Very helpful worksheets. Read EVERYTHING. You can't cram for this course, or you'll fail miserably.

One of the most intelligent teachers I have ever had. Organic Chemistry in general is hard if you don't put in 100% effort. He makes sure you do that. He is in it for everyone's best interest and he is the polar opposite of careless.

Dr. Whitaker was by far the hardest class I have ever taken. I took this class one year ago right before and during the Covid-19 pandemic. It was difficult, I spent countless nights without sleep studying for exams, it was tough. Even while taking his exams you feel like you are about to be tortured by the KGB, but was it worth it? Absolutely.

Dr. Whitaker is easily the best professor I've ever had. He is very knowledgable and encourages students to ask questions to improve their understanding of Orgo. Don't expect to come into his class not studying or reading and getting out with an A, though. I took Orgo online with him as a high school senior and couldn't have been happier!

Took online during COVID. Ochem is difficult, but DTW does a good job teaching and keeps class interesting. He gave shortened, easier tests because of COVID and grades on a curve (thank you!). Watch lectures, take notes, DO PRACTICE PROBLEMS, and ask questions to stay on top of everything.

Alright at teaching.. But does not welcome questions. If you ask him a question he will make you feel dumb.

Literally the best Orgo professor out there! He loves what he does and knows his stuff, if you don't understand a concept he will make sure you do! Amazing lectures, great personality and sense of humor that makes learning the material enjoyable. Lots of homework and exam prep that will take a lot of time but it helps you tremendously.

Dr. Whttaker is by far the best professor i have had in my life. His exams are just like the practice exam, infact just for showing up to class and participating you get 15% of you exam grade so that helps alot. He also curves and drops. He wants you to pass. dont listen to anyone saying hes bad, its a hard coruse and he helps alot. JUST STUDY HARD

If you barely passed chem 241 you will absolutly fail 242. His tests were hardddddd and very long. We had to come at 6:30 until 10:30 to have enough time to finish. Do not fall behind because this class will become a nightmare. BUT he is a good instructor and knows his stuff.

Ok let's be fair. Lectures are great for such a subject, and he relates everything to reality. His exams are tough, but he's pretty good at grading them with leniency/curve/extra credit. His class is a ton of ungraded yet necessary homework, so I don't recommend it with a homework heavy math class. Gives ample practice material. Know pKa values.
