Do not take him!
good accountant, but lousy teacher. A lot of his students fail!
One of the worst two professors I ever had. DO NOT take him! If he wasn't tenured, I'd try to get him fired. He doesn't care about his students at all. His exams are old CPA exams...
He is the worse professor ever. Dont take him. He still thinks he belongs in the 60's.
Difficult, but NO DOUBT you will actually LEARN from him.Put forth required effort for a PASSING grade(he's VERY CLEAR about what those are on the first day)and SEEK OUT his help, and he will do all he can to help.Effectively includes REAL WORLD concepts.
If you do the reading and work the exercises, you should pass the class. His tests are on the tough side. He wants you to apply the concepts and think. You have to study. He likes students to ask questions. A bit too political in his off-handed comments.
I thought he'd be very hard and impossible. No doubt he's hard but you WILL learn. He's funny too. No need to use the book, he's got his own set of hand outs and problems. You can get a second chance on one of the tests. Class is out of 300 points only!!
forces you to really learn the basics
Very offensive comments made by this professor, particularly to female students. Very rough personality. Handwriting during lectures completely illegible. Very irritable if asked questions during lecture.
HE IS THE DEVIL!
He is tough and mean and terrible. No one wants to take him because he discourages asking questions. He discriminates Asian students. Not reccommended.
The class is hard, the teacher is mean. Bad combination. He is irratated all the time. Tests are hard and unfair grading.
The class looks hard at the begining but he is a great teacher. His demo problems are very well thaought through and if you know them well, you'll do well on the tests. He makes yu work hard on your own.
This professor is very good because he helps students to understand this class. It's easy to pass his class-- All you need to understand is the problems that he shows during the class, and then you will pass the class easily!! :)
Good lecture and clear concept but the exams are hard. Good demo problems and requires a lot of effort in this class
avoid him as much as possible
If you don't do homework you won't pass. Lectures are very fast pace and no time for comprehension. His lectures are designed to make you learn on your own. It's a good thing though, at this level you don't just want to sneak through.
Tough grading, but C starts at 50%, and other grades are lower percentage. Only tests count toward grade. Concentrating on his study problems are the key to doing well in the class. Don't take his attitude personally. Good Luck.
Great Professor that really challenges your thinking/learning. He is preparing students for courses down the road, but very tough exams. If you know your stuff(study hard, do all the HW), you should get like at least a B in his class.
Amazing teacher! At first he seemed scary and hard, but he's not. Do the homework problems, and you'll do fine on the test. I learned a lot from him.
This is THE BEST prof at SJSU for accounting. He is very consistent with this demo problems and his tests. You WILL learn aLOT from him. He's awsome and I recommend him to everyone.
Likes to emphasize white collar crime is great if you can get away with it. What does that have to do with teaching accounting?
one of the BEST.... really good teacher for accounting. Prepares you for the real world. NO need for the book in this class. He has his own worksheets and hand outs. Do the practice test and KNOW his worksheets then you're all set. :)
Very Hard, but easy person
He is knowledgeable, but he brings in personal issues that are unprofessional and not classroom appropriate. He tends to have a superiority complex and seems to enjoy when students are intimidated by him. I learned a lot, especially about hippy behavior
if you do homework, you will get an A. Exam is almost copied from HW. He is not a tough grader. at the scond exam, 65% of our class got 90+. Much easier than another teacher, Tureesky.
I've heard a lot of bad comments about this teacher but I took his class anyways. Good thing I did! I am learning a lot from this class. I am learning more than i've expected to. He's a good teacher. His lectures and class problems are challenging, but it helps a lot in understanding concepts.
to get succeed you must spend LOTS of time on this class. you also must teach yourself, since black only writes answers on the board without really teaching you anything. he also thinks everyone in the business world is a crook. i did not enjoy this class at all - i would avoid black at all costs.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. The final was so hard. He only give 75 mins for the long exams. You will never be able to get A even you study very very... hard. You wont have time to do the exams, even though you know how to it. It's frustrating.
Don't listen to all the hype. He isn't easy but he's not hard either. His exams are very similiar to the worksheets he gives out in class. Understand them inside out and you will do fine. Reading the book is pointless except for answering the homework questions which are also on the exam.
Probably the most difficult accounting professor at San Jose State. Be sure to take his recommendations on studying VERY seriously!!! Exams are very long, even for those who are prepared. Students must understand accounting principles inside out in order to do well on his exams. Be sure to attend EV
Black is very entertaining. He is challenging, but as long as you listen and go to class you will do fine. I never opened the book or did HW problems, but I still did very well. Not difficult, just need to use your brain instead of trying to memorize everything.
He is as good as nothing!!He doesnt teach but only resolve problems on the board without explaining s***t. When he is lecturing, it seems that he is lecturing to himself. You are basically on your own. Read the book many times since that's the only way you'll learn in this class. He doesn't explain.
DO NOT take this class if you are not an accounting major. All he does during class is copy a problem from his notes on the board, and keeps checking to see if he has copied it correctly. This guy is bald and hates everyone for it.
His class was the first and only class that I FAILED in my entire life! His exams were very difficult. I was afraid to ask some questions in class because the last time I asked him (in class), he put me on the spot and asked me the same question. I was horrified!
A good professor, very nice guy, but he can be a little scary at first. Make no mistake - his tests are HARD. You must know exactly what you are doing or don't bother showing up. The good news is, forget about reading the book. Just go to class and do the assigned homework, and you'll be fine.
Great teacher and a nice guy, but scary at first. His tests were hard, but if you study the notes and do the problems in the book you will get a good grade. I would highly recommend this teacher.
Avoid this teacher! i had to withdrawl him rite before the final because he was damn hard.his tests are very hard and tricky. His lectures is very fast, if you don't understand it too bad. He really sux!
If you can't pass his class, you should not be an accounting major.
He should leave the teaching position to another person who is really willing to teach, explain and clarify instead of his method of confusing and discouraging students. His classes are confusing and as a teacher he deserves F+
Black is an awesome teacher. You will be very intimadated the first couple weeks, but i think he's just trying to weed everyone out. His lectures are extremly relvant to the class, and he is the easiest grader ever, if you don't get the problem right he will always give partial credit. Just study hard for the tests and you'll pass easily
He is the best professor ever. His handbook makes classs, so much easier, and his knowlege is very broad. He is entretaining and gives you partial credit for problems on the exam. His class in challenging and you do have to study hard.
His lectures are very clear. He covers only the important parts from the book so we don't have to read a lot. Exams are difficult. You will definitely pass his class, but not easy to get high grade.

This was a very interesting class but very difficult. I took his class over the summer so it was even more accelerated. In order to succeed you should attend all the classes, purchase the course reader, and spend hours studying for the exams. He even gives
He is a pretty good teacher. Easy test and class if you study and repeatedly go over the reader. Need to uderstand the material.
4 exams, i got A's with lecture notes only. no need for book though it may help to do practice problems from it. just study from lecture notes and you should pass easily. Must go to class everyday or you will miss out on a lot of learning. Entertaining cynical manner at times. Talks fast but clear. Highly recommended
i thought he was very hard..but he is very very easy! he grades exam pretty easily as long as you know the concept..i thought i would get F on my 1st exam but I got an A after all..
Do not take him. His tests about "hardcore shops" are hard, he si not helpfull nor understanding He does not curve, nor even if you have a special surcumstances that you are not doing well in the class, he is very arrogant and rude
Do not take this professor, he is so rude, unhelpful and you won't learn from him at all.
This guy seems to just hate teaching hates dealing with students. Ask a question and he makes you feel stupid. He does know what he's talking about but he is so un-student friendly that his message is lost. Take him if you like to punish yourself, he is not a nice guy.
Interesting teacher. No need for the book, as long as you attend class EVERY DAY, just study from in class notes and you will pass. I thought he did a great job teaching the concepts
If you have a Nazi as a bestfriend, this dude is your guy. He is SO bitter and talks pessimistically about the government/politics WAY too much. He gets defensive when you ask questions and makes you feel like you belong in kindergarden. Seems like a very lonely man. Take Burak instead.
I was a bit worried taking this class after hearing all the hype, but if you study you can get an A. His tests are hard but he does grade fairly, so if you have to take this class just roll up your sleeves and forget about the whiners. It's not that bad, and he's a pretty nice guy!
Is he a professor? it is a shame for sjsu having this kind of teachers
Are you guys talking about the right teacher? I think he is very easy. Not a lot homework, no need for book. Just come to class everyday, pay attention. Thats all I did. On the exams, even you mess up, but you show him that you understand, you still get points.
WORST TEACHER EVER! Goes too fast, but his lecture note packet is pretty good. You must go everyday because if you miss, you're screwed. Very sarcastic and bitter about the world in general. Test are tough unless you understand all the concepts perfectly, but he does give partial credit if you were on the right track.
so theres a lot of controversy n mixed reviews on this teacher. personally i think the complainers are ppl who are lazy n just forcing themselves thru school. just go to class everyday, go over his lecture notes (which are VERY clear) a couple times, and you should pass at least with a B quite easily. i got an A so its totally do-able.
I don't understand why teach if he hates helping and teaching? He makes u feel like he was dragged to class. Ask him a question and u will feel like u r the dumbest person on earth and he is the only smart guy. Not helpful or approachable at all. I would avoid him like avoiding plague. Hates students and SJSU and yet he still teaches there.

He is a very good teacher. He has his owned style of teaching. As long as you study from his note you will be safe. Try not to missed his lecture. He seem hard to approach, but don't be afraid to step up and ask him questions; he will be glad to help you.
Horrible teacher. He did not explain anything well, and I could not stand his teaching style. On his tests he would leave out portions of problems, and expect you to work your way backwards to figure out the answer. His political comments were great, though.
Not helpful at all. Not clear at all.
I dont know why people complain about him. His attitude is bad, but his exams are easy if you pay attention to his lecture and go over his reader. Doing the homework helps a lot too. He gives partial credit on the exam. Easy to pass the class, but difficult to get an A.
I loved this teacher. He is a very smart man, and his reader is extremly helpful. His tests are hard but he gives lots of credit even though the answer may be wrong. I recommend taking him only if you're an accounting major though. You have to be serious about his class.
Black is tough s.o.b. Nobody feels comfortable enough to ask questions during lecture and is the strictest teacher at SJSU when it comes to exam days. Absolutely no chance to cheat!
If you want a teacher that can teach and expects a lot out of their students, you should take him. I didn't pass because of my own fault, but I still think that he is one of the best teachers at SJSU. He makes the material easy to understand and teaches you how to apply it. I learned more from this class then classes that I have passed.
His attittude towards the students is like he doesnt care. He is just there to put in his time, get paid, and leave. Its hard to ask him question casue he will put you on blast in front of the whole class. The test are somewhat easy if you study the practice problems before.. Only good thing about the class is he has an overall curve.
I took this class in the fall with Jenkins and got an F. I took Black's class in the summer and got a B+, just a few points shy of an A-. He is funny and his workbook helps A LOT. STUDY the workbook and the homework and you will pass the class. His lectures are detailed so don't skip class! Easy to pass, hard to get an A.
Garbage...
Teaches nothing, just copy his notes on the board.avoid him and stay away this class.Otherwise, go and see yourself the nightmare!
I've had better teachers, and I've had worse. He, in his own way is somewhere in the middle. His tests are all on the math of accounting, so understand his 20$ notes from Maple Press and you will not need teh book. He IS a harsh grader however, taking off quite a few points for minor mistakes at times.
People are whiners, go to class, pay attention, if necessary do some homework and/or reading (I didn't) and you will pass his class. Lecture notes are helpful for following lectures. I had 121A and 122A at the same time with him, and have A's in both, just pay attention in class.
Guys stop complaining about Prof Black. He is a great teacher who teaches/explain the accounting concepts and you have to do your part to apply it. He does show how you apply the concepts. On your part, you must attend every single lesson and study his reader/do his assignment hw. He is very approachable to help you during his office hrs. I have a

I think Black is not that tough. In his class, 1) I don't do any homework. 2) I never read the textbook. 3) He gives lots partial credit in the exam even the answer is wrong. What you need to do is to spend a day to study his notes before the tests. He is very easy, so don't worry. My friends and I all got 95 and above grade for each exam.
Worst teacher! Not helpful at all. This is a very imprtnt class. DON'T take him if UR an ACCT major WON'T learn anything Req. 3 VERY $$$ books + a membership to Wiley Plus. Cost $70 for 6/mnths. This website is ONLY so we can turn in HW to him. We DON'T get credit on complete/correct HW but we get penalized if complete/inccorect.
Teacher is hard. He teaches as if you are a CPA already. If you get accounting basics REALLY well, you'll do fine. HEAVY workload though and don't expect an easy ride. Tests are easy though. HOWEVER, between him and McWilliams as teachers, I changed my major!!!
Black is a skeptic. If your overly emotional don't take his class. He knows his stuff and is good at relaying information for everyone to understand. He doesn't always follow the book, so buy the lecture notes and make sure to know journal entries for exams.
Good professor that explains the practice problems during class time. The course reader was good b/c it helped me to study for Prof Black's exams.
He is a nice teacher. Do your homework and study his notes and you'll be fine. He gives so much partial credit its ridiculous. He returns exam grades in as quick as 24 hours. He explains things clearly. Just because his exams aren't multiple choice doesn't mean his class is hard.
I took his class last year but I never got a chance to write about him. He is great! Eveybody told me he is really hard but he was the easiest professor for me. If you do your hw and study the course reader, you will be fine. He is so cool and he makes fun of the whole world which is so funny.
Professor Black is the best accounting teacher at SJ State. He gives a lot of homework assignments but it really helps you understand the concepts. His test are more like his examples rather than the homework. Study his examples and you should do good.
Cost Accounting is a fun class to take, Black makes it understandable, go to his class, do all the problems in his own workbook and you should get at least a B in the class, 4 tests for the class, homework does not count for grade but if you dont do it he marks down your overall grade, show up and do your work and you will get a good grade
I took Intermediate A over the summer, it is way too hard of a class to fit into 6 weeks of summer, stupid mistake on my part, Black is hard for this class but he teaches you what you need to know, going into Intermediate B I felt prepared, study and do the work, and make sure you study since the material does need time to sink in
He blazes through the lectures and barely gives time for questions. Grades are based solely on tests, but he gives alot of partial credits for the test problems. Tests are computations/journal entries, no MC. Not too hard to pass if you put an effort into studying his course reader/notes.
Students just need to understand that this is a difficult course. Yes, we have to spend a lot of money on textbooks, but at least we can use it for 121B. Also, being about to use WebCt allowed the students to get help from one another. Just be careful when taking exams. It does get a little confusing when you're stressed out about doing well on it.
Very poor teacher. Continually goes on about the evils of corporations rather than taking the time to explain difficult concepts. Since he keeps on looking down when he talks, it's hard to pay attention. Rude to students. Does not sufficiently cover material he tests you on. I recommend avoiding him.
he is a good teacher he leaves you to study on your own and do the webct assignments so 90 percent if your own effort he gives you the foundation and then lets you free to struggle to find the right answers...good if you want to spend 10 hours a day studying...
grade only based on 4 exams. The exams are graded by letter A,B,C,D & F. If you recieve an 48% on an exam it's the same as recieving 0%, he just gives you an F for the exam. Hard class. Try to find another proffessor
This class was hard for me, but I like Professor Black. He is intimidating when you first meet him, but he's pretty cool. For those people who are complaining about him, they're just lazy people looking for an easy grade. If you're willing to put the effort into his class, you'll get a lot out of it. He gives a lot of resources that you can use.
The lecture is different than the textbook. However, reading the textbook before attending the class is helpful. Students expect to work together and spend hours to study and struggle on their on. However, the exams aren't that hard. The final grade is based on the average of 4 exams. So make sure you study hard from the beginning!
If you're deciding between Black or Turetsky. Go with Turetsky. You won't regret it.
121a hard class, but you only need 59% to pass. The book isnt that helpful but the notebook he has you buy is whats important. Study like hell. If you can answer the sample exams on your own, then you can pass.
Four computational exams based on his reader. Time wasting online HW. My advice, DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME. Study HIS READER and PRACTICE his sample exams. Class time is useless as he lets you try the problems and then quickly scribbles the solutions. Take Turetsky.
took this guy for 121A and 122 back to back and I gotta say it was the biggest mistake I've ever made!!!! when students asked him questions he made them feel stupid by putting them on the spot and give them looks like they should know the material. the e-books website U gotta pay is stupid and useless so dont waste ur 70 bucks, his tests are HARD!!
This guy is a real tard. There are much better accounting teachers out there. Unfortunately, none of them are at SJSU!
His class is a complete waste of time. The book, lecture and homework are all online. He does NOT lecture. In class, we just go over the answers to a workbook he wrote. He puts students on the spot and talks down on them. He makes you feel stupid if you get any answers wrong. He is extremely rude and insulting... don't bother with him.....
dont take this teacher for both 121a and 122a. it will be a mistake in your gpa and passing the class. honestly if u heard about him, stay away!
horrible.
He is a nightmare!! Don't ever take BUS122A with him. His clas is a waste of time. He makes you feel stupid when you ask him questions. His online assignment offer no solution, just answers. After taking his class, I lost all interest in Cost Accounting.
Easy to get lost in lectures (as I was most of the time). Grade based on only 2 tests (best score weighs 60%). I was very nervous/intimidated the first few weeks, but I got an A. Very fair in grading - major partial credit if you're on the right track. Don't have to worry about hw, quizzes, or papers. Just know the basic concepts in his reader.
He isn't so bad. He moves fast, yet organized. He uses a handbook that makes it easy to follow along. Dont miss class. Study the handbook like crazy, make sure you understand it. Listen to the narrated slides on the textbook website.
honestly, he wasn't that bad. he moves through the chapters very fast. only two exams for the class and he gives a lot of partial credits if you can show him that you know what you are doing. if you really dont have a choice then take him, and dont get scared by the way he talks to you. he tends to intimadate people at first.
I had him for two classes in a row, and he wasn't bad at all. I never felt intimidated from him.If you meet him for office hours he's really helpful. He uses a work book he made for the classroom. Book helps a lot! You just need to do all of the online homework and you should be able to pass the class
I just took Both BUS121A and/ BUS122A with Pro Black in one semester. He is not that bad. Just do the homeworks you will be fine. I got "A"s for both classes.
He provides a really good workbook which you have to study to understand basic concepts. Do the online homework - similar problems show up on his exams. He is a good teacher, but you need to pay attention. He gave an extra credit assignment and also extra credit questions on his exams. Bottom line - go to class!
Class had a midterm and a final both worth 200 pts. The course reader wasnt helpful. He creates a seating chart after the first 2 weeks. His lectures are just him going over the course reader. All the questions on the test are from the ONLINE HW!! He's a nice guy but not a great teacher. He loves bashing on corporations(gets annoying after a while)!
Black is an OK professor. He talks down on corporations a lot.Its funny in the beginning but gets old really fast!We want to be encouraged not discouraged!! His lectures are based off his useless course reader. He'll sometimes go down the row and ask for the answers to the assigned reader problems. There are 2 tests.Tests are all from the online hw!
Cool guy and willing to help you. This class, however, is hard. Didn't really use the book. The online homework is difficult and you have to buy it (even tho it's not graded). It supposedly helps you understand the concepts in this class. The class has two tests worth 40% and 60% of the grade. Do your best to learn the mat'l, good luck.
Nice, guy great sense of humor. Crystal clear lectures, there should be no need to even ask questions as he explains everything. Tests are straight forward and relate closely to the HW. I do not know why everyone is complaining. If you want to learn a lot about accounting, take this class.
His class is not easy, but I learned alot from him. He gives you lots of resources: his reader, online HW (you must do the HW to do well on the test), and an online practice test. Entire grade is from exams. He gives bonus points on at least one exam. I took him for both 121A and 122A, and I would take him again if I could.
If your not the greatest test taker, don't take. Everything is based on testing. Not much help either outside of the class room, explains exercises minimally and has an crude sense of humor. Not much to this guy, but the hard fact that is that the majority of his class fails every semester while a few pass. Not a great turnover at all.
Word of advice: DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER! There is a reason why he doesn't pass out teacher evaluations at the end of the semester. This class is difficult as is and he makes it even more difficult.
I hate him, I hate his lectures, I hate the home works, I hate his class, I hate the quizzes, he is useless, his lectures are useless, home works are even more useless, this class is useless!!!!
Super hard, hard to flow, a lot of homework, pointless quizzes
This guy is ridiculously difficult. WARNING: do not take him. Quizzes nearly every class (pointless). This class takes up all of my out of class studying. RIDICULOUS. do not take BLACK or you aint going BACK to accounting.
He does not teach much. You just copy the answers to the problems in his course reader without having time to understand them. Exams are HARD, and he does not limit the material like some other teachers. If there is no other class to take, just wait because you will withdraw anyway..
stupid quizzes every chapter, homework takes a lot of time to do, but it does help you to do exams which only have problems. he only does couple of problems in class, but very quick, numbers fly everywhere Lol, you get lost very easy. if not for the quizzes, I rather stay home and study because his lectures are not helpful.
very hard guy to understand. talks way to fast, assumes that you know way too much. when you come to class there is already a bunch of stuff on the board that he doesn't explain how he got. Very hard tests, no curves. he is rude, cocky, and will make you second guess your career path.
Great Professor! Has a Unique Style of Teaching. If you want your accounting or finance degree, from SJSU to mean something. You Must take him! Crystal Clear Lectures!!!!!
black is a very clear professor. 13 conceptual quizzes, 4 exam, online hwk, and lean smart assignment(gravy points). This class has a a lot of extra credit during on the exam and bonus quizzes. Whatever he lecture in class is on the exam. Do not study from the online hwk. It is harder than the exam. Keep it simple in this class and pay attention.
Not an esay professor. I failed the first exam in his class but figured out that his style of teaching (at least for 121A) is for you to completely understand the homework and coach. LS is just points for grab and quizzes, well I failed a couple of those too. Make sure you understand the homework by heart and all should be okay.
The final grade comes from 2 exams and the final. Homework is not graded. He grades pretty strict. Lectures are unclear. He spends most of the lecture time talking about corporations and Wall Street (Stuff we're not tested on). Please do not take him. There is not opportunity of improving your grade since only exams account for the grade. Stay away
With the budget cuts it has become more difficult to have more teachers to choose from. This teacher does not care about his students and tries to fail them as much as he can. 2 exams and the final. That's all you get the whole semester. Hw is not graded. If you fail the exams then there's no chance to get points and improve. :(:(:(
Black's class is a lot of work. There are 13 chapters which he quizzes us on. Two midterms and 1 final. Homework on each each chapter which is very time consuming. You basically need to read the book and study the homework inorder to pass the class.
Great person, but tough teacher. Goes over material very quickly. Class is a lot of work, 3 tests and weekly quiz. Take advantage of the online points for hw and connect assignments, be aware these are very time consuming.
the class is not that hard nut it is not an easy class too. you have to understand the concept. 2 midterms ,1 final and online HW and Learn smart (easy point to earn). exams are easier than HW but you don't have to memorize the concept you have to understand to analyze.
Black is a funny guy, but he goes over the material very quickly. A lot of work in this class, I recommend taking another teacher if you are not prepared to learn some materials on your own and doing a load of homework
Professor Black is tough, but fair. The homework is virtually free points (use the "check work" option at the bottom of each problem!). His partial credit system is the most generous of any professor I've ever had, but the difficulty level of his exams makes it necessary. This class requires a firm understanding of the fundamentals. NOT an easy A.
Professor Black is hard, but fair grading! Attention! You have to study hard! If you work hard, you should be OK, otherwise, take another professor. Two midterms, 1 final (250 each), online homework and learn smart (350 pts total).I finally got an A in this class.
2 tests (250 points each), online homework (350 points), and 1 final (250 points). Go to class and know the material in his purple book and you will be fine. Black is great guy with real world experience who does not hold your hand but wants you to succeed. Everyone that has a problem with him is because they did not put the time in. Got a B.
You must understand the concepts in his purple reader. Tests are based on his reader and homework. Two midterm exams (250 points each - 11 problems - No multiple choices). One final 250 pts with 8 problems. All test must be done in 75 minutes and no notes & calc. allowed on test. He provided his calculators on test. Online HW=350 pts. Got an "A"
Black is a traditional gatekeeper for the accounting major. If you aren't an accounting major, I would not advise taking him. If you have a strong interest in learning accounting thoroughly, he is a tough but fair professor. Partial credit is generous.
Assigns a lot of homework which helps boost your grade and practice the concepts. Homework includes examples which makes it easy to learn. Exams are fair, practice exams on textbook website help. It is a lot of work, but all upper division accounting is. His reader makes it easier to study. Much more helpful than others profs I've had. Fast grader.
You better be ready to work your tail off and spend hours with your nose in the book and doing online homework. If not, you'll fail.
You know that scene in Saving Private Ryan when they hit Omaha Beach? The ramp on the landing craft came down and everyone was killed, that was the first test/midterm. Study a good 20-30 hours for that first test/midterm. The final...just watch We Were Soldiers, you'll understand.
Be prepared to work. He used to be easier but he no longer grades online hmwk so now your grade is pure exams. Has a tiny bit of extra credit. You cannot fall behind and don't even try to cram the few days before exams. Doesn't teach, only reviews. Needs to diversify the point system
An important advise: don't take his class. He does not teach and explain things to you. Hard exams and he does not curve.
He is useless: teach nothing, hard exams, only read the book and do homework. Does not curve on exam and you will not have enough time on exam. Avoid him if you want to pass Bus 122A class
NOT helpful at all! Stay away. I highly recommended you take Professor Caroll Buck
Nightmare!!!
Incredibly difficult professor - most difficult A in my college career! The online homework ensures you read the [long and dreary] chapters of the book but are not relatable to lecture or exam. His exams are impossible to finish - felt like they were intended for CPAs and not intermediate accounting students; however, he gives LOTS of bonus points.
there is no doubt that he is knows his stuff in regards to accounting, however that is the only good thing. This class is hard and requires a lot of time, so if you take his class make sure it is your only accounting class or hard class. His reader is like the bible for his class, so make sure you take good notes and study off of it for exams.
His class is very difficult but by far one of my fav professors for accounting! He has a bad rep but only because most students can't handle the work/material. Attend ALL classes, study study STUDY and you'll get a good grade. He's fast paced but has a huge buffer to still get an A. If you can't handle the workload don't take. Passed with an A
This class isn't easy, there's a lot of material you have to go over in order to get a good grade. Additionally, there's a variety of homework, quizzes, and tests so be ready to put in a lot of hours for work. However, I can honestly say that your grade will be dependent on how much work you put in. He gives partial credit on tests which is a plus.
There is a curve. A 60% is a C and there are lots of bonus points on exams. To get an A do all the hw and study his reader like it's your life. I got C's on all midterms but did all hw and pulled an A for the final = A- in the class. The class is very time consuming though.
His reader is really confusing and poorly designed and doesn't have an actual question assigned to examples instead he will come up with it during class. There is a lot of flipping between pages instead of it all being in one section. If you can understand how to use the reader the tests should be simple. He goes off on random tangents a lot.
Tests are worth 85% of your grade. 22.5% x 2 for midterms and 40% for final the 15% is learnsmart (easy hw) and actual accounting hw, which is hard. do LOTS of practice and read his reader over and over until you understand the material.
Prepare to work for it, read ahead for class. Exams are tough, mostly because of the alotted time. The grading on exams is more than fair and there is plenty of partial credit given. Homework is 15%, 2 exams 45%, and a 40% final.
In this class, tests were tough mainly because of the allotted time. However, the instructor is not so tough in grading them. He will give you credits for the complete steps you do right in the questions. I had to spend a lot of time (15-20 hrs) going over the textbook and the instructor's book (for instructions and exercises).
Took him for Bus 121A & 122A at the same time, got a C & B. I wouldn't recommend taking him unless you can devote lots of time to studying. He expects you to have covered the material in-depth outside of class - His tests WILL take you the entire time, including the final, but he gives partial credit. Take him for 122A over 121A, don't do both! GL.
Professor Black wants you to understand the material, which was surprisingly the most helpful way of learning. The hardest class I have taken, But the most I've taken out of any class. If you're looking for an easy pass, this is not it. Humorous guy. Really hard tests that take the entire testing period, including the final! overall: Great!
If you want an easy A go elsewhere. If you are not afraid of a lot of work and want to learn take Black. He gives you a lot of tools to learn but you have to work very hard. Do not take 2 classes with Black in the same semester, the work load will be too much. I took Black twice most people don't. He gives a lot of partial credit on tests.
One of the hardest class I have taken. Don't take him unless you really have to. Be ready, watch the online lecture beforehand because his lecture in class is fast, unorganized, and confusing. On the test, NEVER leave any question blank because he gives partial credits for things you write down(You will thank me later for this). Good luck!
2 tests and 1 final. Around 85% needed for an A and 60% for a C. Tests are not multiple choice so there is a lot of partial credit. There is time pressure during the exams because there is so much to do, but if you're prepared you should get through it all. You will definitely learn a lot and his lectures are essential to understanding the material
By far, the worst professor I've had at San Jose State. I was forced to take the online class as there were no more sections available. He takes forever to reply to emails and when he does, he says its on the syllabus. I literally had to teach myself. And he grades extremely harshly. I worked my butt off for my B+ that I taught myself. AVOID!
He is a great professor. Tests are tough mainly because of the allotted time. The test format look like CPA exam, so taking his class you can get used to with CPA exam. However, you only need 60% for passing his class. he grade easy, and he gave a lot of extra credit and partial credit. He is very generous in giving students bonus points.
