BEST...PROFESSOR...EVER!!!....Bases.grades.solely.on.tests(3.of.them)......Does.a.really.good.job.of.teaching.the.material.....
I thought cost accouting was supposed to be hard??? This professor made it really easy. He took attendance, but your grade is determined by how well you do on the 3 tests (2 midterms and a final). He gives a lot of optional practice problems that he goes over in class. He makes it really easy to learn the material. Best Cost professor.
The best prof. I 've ever had
teaches very well, u may feel hastened in the beginning, but u'll catch up, do his homeworks, attend all classes for 10% of the grade, there is no curve nor extra credit in his class, not an easy A
No Comments
One of the hardest professors in the school. Prof Mason gave a 12 point curve on everyone, but he didn't curve anything and their class average was higher than us. This is completely unfair. I am definetely appealing my grade.
Great professor who had often attracted students from other class to attend his lectures secretly. Right before the 2nd midterm, over 20 students from Prof. Mason's class went to his class without his knowing it. A very nice person indeed. Smiling and kind. People say that he covers the material in great depth, in an easy to understand way.
took him during the last summer..he's very clear, teaches well...the exams were challenging(all departmental), but as long as u pay attention to what he says, and do homeworks, u will be fine..I got an A..not-so-hard A. strongly recommend him.
Great professor in the world. Number 1 in Baruch.
All the Cost Accounting Prof. are puppets for the accounting dept. So in my mind it is impossible to rate any of them over the others. The key to passing cost is, read the text book do all the difficult problems. The online quiz is also helpful.
Great Professor! His lectures are very logical, from one conclusion to another, explains material really well. The course is not easy in itself so the right professor is the key to understanding it. His the one! Hwrks not mandatory but do them anyway, without it you're bound to fail. I wish I could have this professor for all my accounting classes!
he is really a great professor, but be aware of the final exam.
Simply the best! unstoppable in his efford to reach out to the students and explain the material. Got an A, the trick is to do lots of practice, and pay attetion to his solutions.
simply the worse professor at baruch esp for cost. all he does is basically repeat what the textbooks say and does the same examples already given in the text.. cost is not easy and should def not be taken by this "professor"
im going to take him this comming summer 09 and im wondering if he is an easy grader? does he curve? please elaborate him more plz!
took him last summer because i had work and he was the only one teaching the nite session.. doesnt curve and no partial credit.. lectures arnt clear and basically a repeat of the book.most he'll do for u is let u show up for the final so u can see it and said that if u dont write anything down he'll give u a F so u can retake it.
This guy really doesn't know how to teach. He always doesn't know what the true answer is. If some students said they think what the answer was, he would say that he agreed. He really DONT had his own opinion about the quesions. Don't take it. this is the worst professor in my studying life EVER.
he is ok..but the tests are very very hard...people always drop the class after first or second class. he only goes over the simple question in the class, but the tests are totoally another story. so..becareful!!
He doesn't really follow the textbook. He goes way too fast in the materials. he'll keep you awake but don't expect an A unless you already know the material coming into the class. His exams are extremely hard and tricky plus he takes off more points if you don?t follow format rather you make a mistake. Good luck ppl~
Tom gives no curve no partial credit. if u work a 9-5 than he is ur only choice. u just need to come to class and sit there to fullfill ur attendance requirement. the downside is that other prof gave partial points and graded above 100. Tom doesnt do that.
Tom is the best professor on this subject, and perhaps the best in the department. He has accent but is minor and more on pleasant side. He make a difficult subject easy to understand. Exams are hard. For this course exams are departmental - they are the same regardless who you take.
Overall, a great professor. Exams are way too hard.
Awesome professor even if I'm not getting an A. He teaches really well and tries hard to make you understand. He reviews all problems in detail that is very helpful to me.
His class was too big with 120 students when I took the course. Difficult to concentrate. Overall he did a great job. Recommend him if class is not too big.
I agree with the other guy about size of class. Choose a small class for this course. You need to understand the professor without being disrupted by everything else. Tom did a great job but I will choose small class over him.
It is difficult course. You need a great professor.
I am currently taking Tom's class. This was the only class left open when I register so I did not choose Tom. After one month in the class I do not regret. Tom is clear and well organized. That is all what I need from a professor. The class path is a little too fast for me. I told Tom that he needs to slow down a little. More after exam ...
He really tries to explain. Sometimes he spends too much time on easy stuff and never gets to the complicated problems. He fears that he can't do them himself. While on exam you get the hardest problems! You can ask him to go over the problem you found difficult, but he will refuse to do it, because he didn't take a look at it prior to class!
Tom is well organized and clear. Very patient with students. Does a great job explaining homework and exam problems. One of the best at Baruch.
The best professor in Baruch College. Trust me, he has a little bit accent, But you will understand his lecture very well. He explains everything you need to know for the test. I do not even have to spend that much time for cost accounting and get 100 for midterm and A for overall. The final was Hard, but if you study, you will be fine. I got 91 fo
he is really a good professor. There is no confusion left after his explaning. However, the department make the exams extremely hard. The only way, to get a good grade in this couse,is praticing all assigned exercises(that is a lot), pratice, pratice...
The class is boring, imagine yourself sitting for 4 hours in class with a proffesor who is afraid to go over the hard problems. Stay away!
That professor can not teach!!! He is trying , but I think that he do not understand this subject by himself. The exams are totally different then HW or quizes. Think twice abt him.
This is a unreasonablly hard course. This professor did a great job explaining the subject. He reviewed all problems and was very helpful (unlike many other professors in this school). The exams are very hard.
Very good teacher. He has a style of teaching that really works. Give very easy examples that really helps you understand the concepts. Just follow his lecture and practice assigned problems you will do well. I did not even have to read the book to receive an A.
Great professor to take for this course. He explains well and is willing to help you. Exams are very hard but not impossible to get an A. You need do a lot of practice.
Great professor, very helpful! He's clear on what he teaches and tries to help you understand as much as possible. The class itself is very hard and time consuming. I never got bored in his class.
Tom is one of the best for this course. I took him in spring and received a good grade.
the dept. makes cost accting a tough class, but this professor is very experienced in teaching the subject, as long as you follow his instructions and his lectures are so clear and understandable, you will get a grade you deserve. Attendance is mandatory. Overall, RECOMMENDED!
Best professor for the course. I got a A- without even read the book. Follow the lecture and do homework and quizzes and you will do well. Good luck!
I don't understand his accent and he writes with light colors (can't see anything and you get lost 2 minutes later)
I think the comment below is bu...t. Nothing sounds like we are in the same class. The minute i come to his class i fall asleep. Useless professor, doesn't prepare you for te departamental tests at all.Heavy accent, can't understand
cost acc is not the most exiting class but Tom manages to make it even more uninteresting with his style of teaching. that would be alright if he was actually helping students to prepare for the exams, which are extremely hard. instead he wastes most of the time by doing pointless review of homework. take another professor who gives curve
I like accounting but this guy makes it boring. In general, don't take cost accounting during summer (this advice has nothing to do with prof.)
Tom explains well and makes a difficult subject easy to understand. Reviewing homework and quizzes are extremely helpful to me, although it does not seem to help others. Strongly recommended.
Compared to other accounting professors this guy is way better. If you don't understand him, he will stay after and explain. His slides are very organized and really useful. For ACC3200, he might be your best choice.
he is very clear and orginized. h/w problems +quizes+exams from previous semesters=the only way to get a good grade. I got an A;)
Exams are departmental and he has not power to curve. He does his best to prepare his students for the exams - and he does a GREAT job. Pay attention to his lectures and his reviews of quizzes and hw - if you do, reading the book is wont be necessary.
midterm 50%, final 45%, class participation 5%. Exams are departmentalized and are extremely comprehensive. Just knowing in-class examples and end-of-chapter questions is not enough. Must have a full grasp of the material to apply to exam questions. Around 20-25 questions per exam.
I hate coming to useless class just for attendance.
Basically you just have to practice your way out. That is the only way you can get good grade. Exams are departmental with no curve.
The course is not that difficult as many have said. You just need to practice a lot the exercises. No need to read the books. I did not even buy the book.
This professor is a waste of your time. Horrible accent, goes over easy problems in the class, does not prepare you for the final.
sorry guys this class is damn hard no matter who you take it with. A lot of student love this prof. saying he his good. well I got to say he hisnt. his class examples are way too easy than what you get in the real exam. You can study yiour ass off from now till tomorrow but you just got to practice and give this class the attention.
Tom tries his best and is very good teaching this subject. Exams are really hard and long. Not impossible to get and A but you must focus all your time to the class. He reviews all homework, quizzes and sample tests which I find very helpful.
You need to practice all the way. That is the only way to get a good grade. Reading books won't be necessary if you understand his notes and lectures. Good luck!
I took the course twice and my second time was with Tom. Tom was more helpful than my previous professor but both were very hard. The bottomline is you need to spend a lot of time no matter who you have...
I highly recommend to take a class with prof. Tom. He's easy, you understand the concepts and very heplful.
Took him last semester and boy he is hard... exam is totally hard... rushes through things in class... AVOID HIM... take Prof. Ozbiligin...
I found Tom is very helpful. His formulars makes things easier than the book. I did not read the book at all. Just concentrate on the class lecture and note and do a lot of practice and you will be fine.
I liked his way of teaching. explains everything very good. prepare students for exams.would recommend him
He is hard to follow, confusing, rushes through material. I had to use notes from another professor (Ozbiligin), read the book and practice over and over and over....just to get B. If you can, take Ozbiligin, if not, at least try to get his notes. Good luck!
Cost accounting is horrible... I do not understand why the department has to make the tests so hard... So, be prepared for 20 loooong and hard questions on every test. Study practice tests in and out. The professor himself is pretty good. He is fast, yes, but he has to be because there is a lot to cover. He is probably one of the best you can get.
This prof need to stick to teaching undergrads. He is incmprehaensible, rushes the material and doesnt seem to have a good grasp of the material. His worst trait is his inflexibility. Baruch should be ashamed to have this guy as a prof. 1/3 of class dropped after 1st midterm whose fault was that!!!
Very good at breaking down the subject but is very hard on his tests. The questions seem to be easy but turn out to be tricky. Gives sample tests and does use similar problems on the exam. He'll throw however 2-3 complex problems to filter the As and Cs. Be wary if you care for the GPA. Study hard, and make sure if you grasp the concepts.
Terrible teacher. Goes over easy material from prior 2 weeks and wastes a lot of time. Can barely understand him and you struggle to stay awake. Tests (especially final) are extremely hard, poorly written (run a grammar check please). The guy is a joke of a professor and no wonder they are doing away with this class.
If you really have an interest in this topic don't take this guy. He is very hard to follow most of the time and doesn't seem to rehearse or practice his lessons at all. He just kinda shows up and wings it. Not helpful. Nice guy, but not helpful. The curve is the only way most students pass.
I think the negative reviews here are due to the difficult material, rather than the professor. This is a challenging course. However, I found professor Tom to be helpful, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable. He seems happy all the time. His demeanor helps make the course a little less unpleasant.
This is the best course I took so far and Tom is among the best professor at Baruch. I found his lecture was easy to follow. The exams were difficult but highly related to the cases and exercises. Tom was very help preparing us for the exam with sample tests and formular summaries.
The person who wrote that review on 08/3 must have been smoking some strong stuff in class or while writing the review or it was Tom himself writing it. Tom is best prof in MBA what a joke. Tom is just bad plain and simple. STAY AWAY FROM HIM.
I agree with comment left on 8/3. Tom is a help and knowledgeable professor.
With over 300 students in the class, inevitably some students will receive a low grade and voice their opinion on here. I found Tom to be a great teacher and very passionate. He is fair and stays after class to go over questions. He goes out of his way to type up formulas for students to use in exams. He is one of the best professors I've had.
Presented the material well and had a fair grading system, not sure what more you can ask for for a 300 student lecture class. The material is hard, and Baruch should probably make these classes smaller, so that the professor could devote more time to helping students, but that's not his fault.
Cost accounting is not about teacher. don't rely on him! you just gotta do a lot of practices. the only drawback he has is that he has no mercy on you! no partial credit, no curve! If i had another chance, I would have taken this course with the other guy who gives curve.
Course is not that hard as many suggested. All you need to do is practice a lot. Every exam has 20 multiple choice questions. The department determines the grade.
He explains clearly but you have to study you midterms like your finals so don't worry if you screw your final. I think he makes the departmental final and its superb hard. Very tricky and too much detail to keep in mind/
First, all the exams are departmental so whether they are hard, tricky or unfair is not his decision. However, he DOES prepare you for them. He goes over the practice exam in class, and uploads the answer sheet on BB. Second, he really cares about his students doing well. He goes over the hw in class and makes sure everyone gets it. Great professor
He goes over the material very well and filters unnecessary items from the book. Bt exams are SUPER HARD. Doesnt matter which prof you take for this class. But he is lenient for HWs and will give students enough time to consult.Great Professor. Classes are always interesting which is a rare thing in COST ACCTNG.
Very good professor. I recommend him. Regardless of the professor you take, the material is very comprehensive and difficult, however, he does help you understand it. Hi class doesn't really get boring because he has a nice personality and knows how to deliver the material in an interesting way.
Great professor but the department is absolutely crazy to make the exams this hard. The homework helps a little but to really pass this class you need to find people who have practice midterms and finals, get them and study them all. I dropped this class. The midterm was the hardest exam I have ever taken. Will try again soon with this professor
I thought this course would be easy in summer section, but the midterm exam was so difficult to pass. Even though prof Tom is a nice and has clear lecture, I still have to drop the course. Next time really have to prepare well for the departmental exams.
It's accounting, so don't expect a breeze through this class. Put in the work yourself because the exams are always going to have questions that are completely different then homework or textbook problems. He goes over homework problems which is a big PLUS.Do your best because your grade is determined by how well you do compare to everyone else.
his class was so hard to sit through. he's very boring and be warned he has an accent. spends too much time going over the homework. i think that only reason people like this professor is because he teaches saturday so everyone knows what will be on the exam from people who already took it.
He spends a ton of time on homework. He will do whatever he can to help you, but don't forget this is a department final. Even with his help you have to do a TON of work on your own. Rough class, but nice guy. I wish Baruch would let professors have more influence over the exam problems. No attendance. You have to buy Connect
Tom is great professor. In the beginning of the class, he tells us don't worry about attendance and lateness. He is not gonna take it. He can't recognize me sometimes, even though I have participate a lot in class. However, his class is interesting. You will not regret if you take him.
This class is hard. Professor Tom doesn't take attendance and count lateness in class, so everybody get points from class participation. He is easy going, but the exam is GPA killer.
Tom gives clear lectures which really help me understand the subjects. Everything else is departmentally controlled. He is not unique for hard exam and grading for this course.
He's one of the best you can get for Cost Accounting. The subject itself is extremely hard and let's be real, I have never heard of any accounting being easy. He loves to take smart questions. This class is a SURE FAIL if you don't work 20-30 hours before any exam. If there are people in the class getting 95 to 100 in the midterms, that's something
Professor gives great lectures and takes care of students. Participate when professor does the homework in class. And practice a lot. Department exams are harder than homework.
Great professor, gives good lectures, takes care of students , and has strong responsibility. Participate and solve the problems when professor does homework problems. Department exams are harder than the homework.
Best Professor. Lectures are great. He teaches summer classes. Helps you prepare well for the department exams. I got 77 on midterm(40%) and 91 on final(35%). Attendance counts 5%, homework 20%. And I got A-.
Professor Tom is a great professor. Very very very good for any reasons. He cares about students, gives amazing lectures. Take him. He explained all the topics very clearly. He is such a good professor you cannot miss.
