I loved professor Cowan. He does grade hard on his speeches. I had a lot of experience in public speaking and I got an A-. If it hard to get i front of an audience then i wouldn't take him, but that doesn't really matter to him, but he is fun entertaining, and funny

Great teacher: witty, good-hearted, knowledgable, lively, human and caring. Course was a pleasure: workload fine, expectations and instructions clear, very helpful, sample speech sheets user friendly. Usually bit tardy, but not hypocritical about student tardiness. Write yours just like his and U can't go wrong. Loves extemp-seeming speeches.

He makes Com class so fun and exciting with group works, weird studies. and and A is so easy because he gives u study sheets with given answer. so all u need to do is remember them, cause they all are in the test.

It's an easy class as long as you do the work. Tom is an excellent teacher and he's very passionate about the subject. He's tough on grading, it's not a class you can slack off in. As long as you don't wait until the last minute to do your speeches then you'll do fine in his class. If you're going to take com 101 then take his class.

This was a great class. If you come to class, listen to what he says, and read what he gives you, you will have no problem. He gives you everything you need to succeed.

Great teacher! Class is tough, but he gives you everything you need to succeed. Summer course is short and super hard to organize all your speeches in, but if your up for a challenge it was a blast!

Funny, intelligent, and friendly. His voice is calming and frequenlty puts me to sleep, so don't sit in the front. He gives you packets, use them and all will go easy.

This was a fun class. All your grades are based on the speeches you do yet if you stick to his quidelines of how to write and give them then you will be fine. You give 4 speeches throughout the semester. As long as you do your work you will be fine and he is a very funny nice professor, I enjoyed taking his course

Show up for class! The majority of material on the three tests he gives is straight from class discussions. Funny and engaging in class, and seems to genuinely enjoy teaching.

Today was the last day of class! I do have to say, Tom Cowan is a very dedicated and fun teacher. Never a boring moment. I really learned alot and am more comfortable taking Eng 101. I highly recommend this teacher.

He's a really nice professor, very understanding. I was barely there during class, due to my work schedule and I still managed to get a decent grade. Most of the material on the test is during class discussion, every now and then he'd give a statistic from the book. READ over what he gives you!

i took this subject last summer,i didn't like it actually since i have a great fear of public speaking. He was a nice teacher though,he explains clearly what we need to do and i agree with the other comments,he is understanding. But man,does he drink a lot of diet sodas! hehehe.

Very good teacher he tells you exactly what to do during class with step by step handouts! SOOO easy, You cant fail unless you tried. Hes always willing to help and loves his pepsi! Definetly worth while to take the class.

EASY teacher, very helpful is very clear in what he expects the hardest part of his class is learning to be comfy in speaking to others & keeping it short. NO TESTS, NO BOOK!! he requires an outline of your speech & for you to speak thats all. he gives good feedback he knows his material well. he does repeat himself often and is sometimes tardy.

He is a great teacher, he makes things easy and intersting for his students, he loves to help and take time to expalin things.

Great Class! Thought is was a breeze and Mr.Cowan was very helpful. The best part is he gives his students permission to be human, you can give your speech the same as if you were having a conversation.

Easy Class because gave enough time to do required assignments and gave tools to complete but did not like that he would ask a question and cut you off before you could finish answering. No class input or contribution allowed.Hard on grading.

He is the sweetest professor I've ever taken. Extremely witty and funny, and loves to teach. Only 4 speeches due for the entire class. Extremely helpful and will go above and beyond to help you with your speeches.No homework or book. Take him!!!

Please be warned: Tom is a great man, but this class wasn't. He was constantly late (sometimes didn't show up at all), but we are graded down for missing classes. It is a fairly easy class, but he is VERY picky about the structure of your outline. Don't think about not bringing that with you, you won't be presenting. I regret taking the class.

Nice guy, entertaining and helpful. He is kind of picky about grading, so don't expect to just show up and pass. You have to work for it. Take him over the summer if possible. It is boring as a 4 week class. I would need my eyelids surgically attached to my my forehead to take this as a 16 week class.

Great teacher! Sweet old guy that loves his job and his dogs. Easy class if you pay attention and do the work (which isn't much, 4 speeches.) He is very easy to work with. Take summer class if you can.

Mr. Cowan aka "FERNANDO" is a really good teacher who doesnt make you buy a book of 90 dollars, hes funny and hes always drinking pepsi. TOTALLY RECOMENDED!

Tom is a very nice man and very helpful! It helps A LOT if you go visit him during his office hours for help with your speeches! 4 speeches, none of them are very difficult, just follow the outlines he gives you and watch your time. Lectures are boring but useful information. Overall I enjoyed this class and I'm glad I took it with this professor!

The class itself is easy, but Professor Cowan is a hard grader when it comes to the outlines for the speeches. There are 4 speeches, no homework, no textbook, no midterm/final. He's extremely helpful if you visit him in his office. His class is boring, but easy. He rarely gives A's, so be aware of that. Majority of grades in my class were B's.

Generally easy class, only 4 speeches. He's extremely clear on what he wants and he's quite funny. I wouldn't say this class is an easy A though. If you try and meet him halfway, you'll definitely pass. Oh and only 4 absenses max.

Eeasy class, with only 4 speeches and an inexpensive book/syllabus (I remember it was only around 5 dollars). He's funny and affable so it's rather easy to listen to him give lectures. The speeches aren't too hard if you do some research and make your topic concise and sound. There's only 4 absences allowed, so that might be a con to this class.

Professor Cowan teaches a straightforward speech class. There's no book, and a small packet containing the syllabus and sample speeches. If you complete all of the speeches and follow his examples exactly, you will get an A. DO NOT DEVIATE FROM HIS EXAMPLES! Seriously, that's the difference between a C and an A.

Attendance is mandatory! He is only available by phonemessages, no email. Class is very straight forward, show up, listen to his anecdotes and lectures, do your speeches according to the $5 handout (no book), and do them on time. Simple. Lectures are long; stay after if unclear and he is more than willing to help. Great class and very to the point

In this class you only have 4 speeches and that's it. If you do those speeches like the guide says you should be fine. He gives good feedback, easy class. Recommend it.

Tough grader but he is very specific in what he wants. He does make everything very clear so you must do exactly what he wants in order to get a good grade.

He tells you exactly how he wants the outlines to be, if you really pay attention in his lecture, you will get at least an A-. Don't miss classes or be prepare to have a bad grade. He is always available to help you. Only 4 speeches, he grades the outlines and gives it back to you the next day. A lot of comments that helps to fix your mistakes.

I LOVED HIS CLASS! I can sit all day and hear him lecture very free spirited man. he is very helpful to answer any questions you have . he does require a text book .I do have to say don't miss class or come in late, He is un-pleasant when his class is interrupted once class starts. WARNING! he does lecture the hole class time. Stay awake.

Of all classes taken enjoyed this one least - found the prof helpful, but I would never take another class with him-isn't a class for divergent thinkers and there was no group work; it was authoritarian in nature, and did not benefit me in public speaking-its a course for conventions nothing more-was entertaining for the most part+the best part

His class is easy but really boring. 4 speeches and thats it. Follow the examples in the $4 manual and you'll get an A. Follow the outline format for the speeches and itll all be good. listen to the criticism he gives and follow them. dont take in the morning too unless you know you can deal, literally like only 10 people were left @ end of class.

Cowan is a good professor. He's funny, but his lectures can be super boring. He's very specific on what he wants. I don't know if he has changed this, but speeches are supposed to be 8-12 mins long if you don't make it to 8 you get knocked down a letter grade. It's only 4 speeches!

As other's stated, lectures can be a bit boring, but he tells you exactly what you need to include in your speeches to get a good grade on them. 4 speeches and due dates are fixed.

Overall he was a good professor. You really just have to show up and give your speeches on time and should get a solid grade. Professor Cowan is a quirk man, but it makes his class interesting.

I loved the way this course went for me, especially with this professor, he has taught me so much in writing great speeches, I first remember the time I stepped foot into this class very shy, not actually knowing this was a public speaking class, but later throughout the course with so many speeches written and presented I finally spoke my voice.

I had to take an online class with him due to Covid. I think the class wouldve been more interesting in person since there was some issues with the online class. He based the grade on 3 instead of 4 speeches. He gives a lot of time and help to prepare for each speech. He's an interesting kind professor.

Took online class this spring, three speeches the entire semester, schedules dates for each speech, just have to turn in an outline to him before speech, make sure speeches are 8-12 minutes. Easy A definitely take him if you don't like speaking in front of people in person.
