Awesome. He is very methodical and presents complicated material in a very understandable way. Has extensive website with loads of material for the class. Wrote a Battleship simulator for project and each student implemented a Player class. Great fun!
I thought Prof. Dedonno was very knowledgeble in his field. If I wasn't sure about something, all I had to do was ask, and he would make sure that I understood. I suggest him for anyone who wants to extend their knowledge in computer languages.
Knows subject. Keeps class interest high. Grading criteria and expectations very well documented. Enjoyed class.
He knows exactly what he is talking about. Keeps up with the latest trends in the game industry. Very good teacher, great guy!!!
At the moment, prof DeDonno is easily the best CIM Instructor at the college. Everything you will ever need for the class is on his website. None of that stupid "attendance is 20% of your grade" stuff some other instructors use to get you to come to class. Prof DeDonno gets you to come to class by making the material interesting !Take his classes !

Very good teacher, keeps up to date in subject matter, all assignments and tests were well documented on class web-site, highly recommend this instructor.
Great guy. Really knows his stuff. Very helpful if you think something is unclear. Fairly easy tests every other week. Can be done online and e-mailed to him. Online quizzes with extra credit. Get points just for signing up for the class. Oh he has an amusing accent too. hehe.
Great guy. Has very good skillset of current IT technologies and makes extra effort to keep up with them as they evolve. He should get extra credit for being creative and "hands-on" during lectures. I learned a lot about the subject and found myself looking forward to his classes every week.
really good, up to date, VERY interesting, funny, and helpful, flexable with deadlines and extra credit and very knowledgeable on his topic.
Great teacher understanding and very open to suggestions. Highly Recommended. He is always willing to learn new stuff which is great cause he likes to make sure the students are up to date with the latest trends going on. Willing to go over things from the last class if you missed or forget something.
Beginning&Advanced Flash class was fun. Learned a lot and Dedonno knows what he's talking about. You can easily get him off track. Book is mandatory to do assignments. Good class.
This teacher is really easy, but the class is not organized very well. You can tell he does not like teaching it. By all means take the class if you want an easy A. Put in minimal effort, and pay attention in class you'll do fine.
Great Guy, Great Teacher, responds to email questions 24-7, class was well organized with a good set of homework assignments that complemented all the PHP basics. Does a good job of merging Web technologies.
You won't go wrong with Professor DeDonno. He knows the material and is an excellent teacher. I took two Dreamweaver classes 100% online and had a great experience. The viewgraphs are outstanding. The class website has everything. You will need the book. He responds to emails 24/7 timely. I give him my unequivocal highest rating posible.
i took Flash A-D, Dreamweaver A-B, and Capstone Portfolio classes.... i found his classes to be really relaxing and he went through the material at a good steady level... the workload isn't bad, in fact we were talking among our class to make you (the future student) load even more.... haha... but yeah, fun classes..
The best computer science professor at both Saddleback and IVC. Funny guy, nice too. He knows his stuff. Do the work so you will learn. He will do anything to help you, just ask.
I took the Beginning and Advanced Dreamweaver class with Tom online and it was fantastic! The first couple of weeks were tough trying to get up to speed with hooking up to the Saddleback server and I liked how each concept was demonstrated at least 3 times - once in the video and then twice on your own doing the textbook homework. Great class!!
cim264a/cim264b class site was well organized clearly listed all requirements, Videos were well done, found him to articulate well, plan to take several other of his classes.
he is the best,
I've taken six classes from Tom DeDonno. He a great instructor --- always willing to extend himself. His knowledge is vast and he's up-to-date with the latest developments in the field. His grading is more than fair and he gives lots of oportunities for extra credit. He encourages students to incorporate their own creativity into the assignments.
He is not afraid of code! He will hand write it, work through it on the projector, and talk about it. Easy to ask questions, and he really cares about his work, so he's happy to hear feedback. If you don't do the homework you're not going to test well, but he gives extra credit.
he is able to make you want to learn even more
He encourages you to ask questions, to admit if you don't know the answer and he goes out of his way to explain code so that even a novice will understand it. Great material coverage, online videos and view graphs, and fun to be in class and listen to his lecture. Available by email 24/7.
Knows his stuff. Has good videos available on blackboard. The website is well organized but out of date and confusing in some places. Spelling is atrocious. But overall a good, enthusiastic and helpful teacher.
Nice guy and will respond relatively quickly to questions via email, but responses are extremely short and often don't address your question. Course documentation and instructions are often poorly organized, ambiguous and out of date. I took 2 courses from him, same scenario in both classes. You are better off getting a book and teaching yourself.
Great teacher. Encourages you and he knows his stuff.
I was a student in quite a few of Mr. DeDonno's classes. He was an excellent, enthusiastic instructor who gave a great overall view of the technologies being used in the class, in addition to helping all the different levels of students with what could be very technical material. A+ for you, man.
Best Teacher Ever!
Extremely unorganized!!! You have to deal with too many websites: blackboard, his personal website, submit assignment website, and more... This was extremely confusing for me. Specially the fact that the design of the website changed every single time i visited the pages... I'm a dude and I got Hello Kitty after I signed in!!!
no problem at all with the three sites, did have to have basic logic to handle the three, but sites were straight forward, class site public information (you could lock design try set design), blackboard private video and quiz access. Separate server for auto grading. Class cover all bases on cim205a and was straight forward.
Very very difficult to understand. He has 3 assignment pages to tell us what to do... they're all different.
I dont wear my seatbelt on my way to class because I hope I die before I get there. This professor ruined my interest in computers.
Excellent professor, all students had access to own Web Site/ Web server.
Took him for multiple classes, you cannot go wrong with this teacher.
teacher stays up to date, for cim2225 he added new content, class has on PHP but also hit on XML, image galerries and CMS. he was interesting, funny, flexible on deadlines, schedule, assignment and quizzes. All classes have extra credit. You can work at your own pace, most assignments have corresponding online videos.
This Java programming class was great - thoroughly enjoyed it. Instructions were clear. Text was good. Professor was very quick to respond to emails. Would totally recommend this class to others.
By far best cim and computer science professor around. He will not babysit you through the class but his main interest is teaching you the subject. Also he has office hours to assist those who need help. Have had multiple classes with him and he stives to make you understand the subject. He also makes sure he is up to date on all subjects.
Great class, took him for intro to Dreamweaver
I tried taking two classes with him, both being the same. He's extremely unorganized which makes the easy subject he's teaching impossible to work with. He's very hard to understand due to a speech problem he has. I highly recommend that you don't take him ever. I'm avoiding all of his classes like the plague.
Took cim225 this summer, class assignments were guide to the course, only had to follow class assignments to complete the course.
Class was very straight forward, just follow assignment checklist. Class did allow the student to choose from multiple assignments, which could cause confusion for some students. But the trick was just to complete core assignments first, then decide on what you want to do next. The multiple assignment allowed you to pick your grade
Game Design and Development, class was a very good overview of Video Games, great class, great teacher.
Class was of very high quality, a C grade was trivia, class covered basic of SQL, using MySQL. Only assignments and quizzes, just follow assignments.
Found videos very helpful when used in conjunction with the book, plan to take cim278b advance dreamweaver and quite a few other courses from this instructor in the future. He is a popular insructor and most of his class typically fill up, but all you need to do is ask for an APC add code.
I have had this teacher for 4 classes so far. I cant begin to tell you how much I hate him. There is no "teaching" from him. He basically posts an assignment and you are on your own. Just you and Google. Very little help even after multiple emails. I hate that he is the only teacher in many of these classes.
well done course, follow the assignment page, course had something for everyone experience programmer had a programming path, less experience could work with word Press assignments.
I legitimately spent more time learning his hacked-up online compiler than I did learning Java. As a career programmer, I found this class extremely cluttered and useless. It was easy for me (10+ years coding), except that silly compiler.
Took him for full set of Web Design classes, Professor really knows his stuff. Would highly recommend him. In terms of class structure, all classes are highly organize you just need to follow the assignment page.
The Java classes, is definitely not for the faint of heart. The book was very detailed and the class site and instructor website was also very detailed. The submit command allows you to turn in assignments anytime. If fact you can complete school work quizzes, assignments and tests anytime - anyplace. You do have to understand I/O specifications.
This is my fourth semester with the horrible teacher! I have even considered switching colleges just so I could actually learn a subject. HiS online computer system is a joke. He has a horrible lack of the subject. Most of all all of his millions of site for one course are extremely outdated and utterly unorigionized. Run away fast!!
great teacher, great classes, does use a lot of sites but everything is well linked, and it is web Design, which is based on hyperlinks, anyone with a background in Web development should have no problem navigating the Web or gaining a lot in his classes which are very detailed and comprehensive, other teachers do offer beginning classes
Great Classes, teacher is very organized, has detailed class sites, very up to date, covered advance and current aspects in all courses I've taken. Also stresses the basics. Work in industry and and professionally recommend this instructor.
Well organized course, everything was upfront and easy to follow. Class had ample online videos. Would highly recommend class and instructor.
Excellent leading edge class, covered all the new and evolving topics in Java, Instructor does a very good job staying up to date and bringing the most important concepts into the class.
Teacher does an excellent job of standing up to date. One time in class, he was able to on the spot rank demand for all job technologies. He asked students what they thought were hot technologies, he accurately ranked all technologies using a Job site trend line. Highly recommend instructor.
Teacher is very detailed and meticulous. Class does cover a lot of material, but offers numerous options for achieving the desired grade. Class site, and assignments are very detailed. Highly recommend the instructor and the class, but it is definitely not for the faint of heart. Don't take this as a first class in Web development.
Teacher puts together a great class. Like previous he is very organized and detailed. Has full set of videos. Quick on responding to emails. Very up to date, added Creative Cloud videos right after Adobe released the new software.
Well organized course, teacher is very responsive to e-mails, does a good job of keeping all material current. Added recent PHPMyAdmin material
Professor is very up to date, can answer almost any questions related to computers, programming or about the Web. All course material is very detailed and precise.
After taking several courses with Tom, I can honestly say he is awesome.I found that A)You need to read your assigned book. B) Do the work C) Communicate with him by attending his lectures online (CC Confer) or by watching his posted videos and emailing him. If you do A,B, and C, you will pass the class with flying colors. He is knowledgeable.
Excellent teacher, very detailed, used his outlines at another college I was teaching at and it was very well received.
Professor Tom is A-Okay.
He explains everything very well. His lectures are very direct and to the point. He answers all questions, even the dumb ones. Provides you everything you need to succeed in his class and in future computer science classes. Tom does more than just teach you to code in java, he encourages you to think outside the box. Will take again for next class
Tom is simply a great professor. The lectures are informative, and he goes to great lengths to make sure each student is up-to-date and informed. The bulk of the class grade comes from assignmentslabs. There are weekly quizzes via Blackboard, one midterm and final. Professor DeDonno likes to update the class on advancements in the CS field.
Unorganized, unclear on what needs to be done, most material covered in class hardly pertains to what we were learning, does not actually bother engaging with the students, instructions are unclear, and his class structure is a complete mess. Our midterm and final were near back to back due to delays. One of the worst teachers I've ever had.
This is a great class to learn how to use dreamweaver to design your websites.
He might be okay for the CIM classes, I wouldn't know. However, the java classes he teaches were extremely unorganized and were probably two of the worse classes I've ever taken. You go through material so quickly and most of it's so convoluted and dense that none of it really sinks in. Would not recommend.
His class is completely disorienting and confusing. The system he uses, between his class website, the saddleback blackboard website, and the "submit" website he uses to grade work, is confusing, and I am very tech savvy. I am able to do everything with some deep reading(probably an hour). He writing is horrendous, which adds to the confusion. gl.
Tom is likely the worst teacher I have ever had. His website is extremely confusing and nothing between his personal website and blackboard align. It takes hours of reading through his horrendous instructions to understand what the homework is. His quiz questions are worded poorly and ask for opinion not fact. Get your degree somewhere else.
Took several courses from instructor, he is well organized and responds promptly to email. Would recommend him for both Web development and also Java. Blackboard quizzes are not easy, therefore for some it would seem they are incorrect, but I tested most of the questions and got the correct answers. You can also repeat quizzes.
This summer completed cimp7a Java, class was very advance in terms of online content, had full set of blackboard quizzes, blackboard webcasts and online interactive assignment grading system. Can recommend both class and professor.
Great class, and teacher, teacher was very responsive to all emails, class had lots of extra credit, he also has a accent and a sense of humor.
Took Intro to Java, as an online class. In many online course, instructors are slow to respond. This instructor responding to all my programming email questions on the same day. At the latest the next morning. .
Enjoyed the SQL course, learned a lot. Everything was available and well organized right at the beginning of the course.
Covered both the intro to Java, and a few advance Java topics. You can submit homework assignments anytime and all tests and quizzes were online. Felt he was a very effective lecture, his Web-casts were informative and solved most of the assignments.
Tom had full set of very good videos on Dreamweaver. He also provided prompt email responses. Besides Dreamweaver course also touch on blogging, Word Press and cloud drive. Will take other course from him.
DISORGANIZED!!!
Found class to be very well organized, entire 8 week semester with due dates of all assignments and quizzes was released before class even started. Professor responded promptly to all my emails. Would have taken him again for other classes. PS You do have to read assignment page and also the announcement emails. Also focus in on whats due.
Have taken many online classes, his are awesome. Most online classes are strictly reading, long delays associated with emails, and some discussion board. This teacher has a full set of web-casts and access to grading tools 24/7.
SQL class was very detailed and comprehensive. It is important to follow the assignment list.
Funny guy, and he clearly knows his stuff, but the class is too disorganized. Lectures are just based on whatever he feels like covering that day. The worst part is the homework, it's not that bad but you have to submit it on his website, and if you do anything wrong, you get 0 points and its pretty much always impossible to tell what you did wrong
Professor DeDonno is the best CS teacher I've had not only because of his way of teaching, but the advices that he constantly share with his students in how to become better programmers!!
Teachers has a lot of online material, he provides testing sites, videos, web-casts and online quizzes. To some it may be overwhelming or confusing. But to a confident Web developer its the first online course I have taken that goes beyond just a basic blackboard interface.
He gives you everything up front so that you can get ahead and finish on time! His grading is fair and honest considering how tough it can be sometimes to learn new topics quickly. I always look forward to taking his classes!
He gives you a few chances for extra credit through a coding competition. They are really fun, practical problems. The tests are based off of what he talks about in class so take good notes. Assignments and quizzes are not too bad and he is clear about the due dates and sends multiple emails as reminders. Great professor and will always help you.
Has really good online videos where he walks you through how to do everything. As the semester goes on he holds your hand less and less which is great because you should not be taking the class for an easy A. Extra credit opportunities are not too hard. Really lenient as in if you miss something and email him, he will open it up for a couple days.
Great course, needs hard work, but you'll learn a lot !
Instructor offers students a wealth of online material, He is also very responsive to emails. Watch the initial videos carefully, you will have to watch them more than once, he does cram a lot of information into them. I enjoyed the class and felt the wealth of online material, which can be too complex was not a problem.
Gives terrible feedback, does not care about his students, a completely respectable human being, fostered no inspiration, very difficult to communicate with, not clear on what the assignments are, the worst professor in my 5 years on higher education throughout many schools. Totally waste of my time to have taken a class with this professor.
Found feedback and responses very effective. Teacher even called me at home. Make sure you read assignment they have all the details you need to complete the online grade. Instructor also has web-cast which solve many of the assignments.
Submit grader was difficult to get things exact, but Professor will help you and even called me. Found feedback very helpfull. Class was well organized all due dates were listed on class assignment and in the class schedule. Pay close attention to assignment examples, and you should have no problems.
Nothing good to say about this class. Worst class ever! Totally disorganized. Difficult only because teacher is awful. Hours of video lectures where he repeats himself & teaches nothing. LEARNED NOTHING! Gave up on watching the videos as they're useless. 8 hours & counting on vids for the final but still no clue what we're supposed to do.
Class has more online content, than any other online class I've had. Class was well organized, assignment page was all you needed to follow.
Excellent teacher, just follow the assignment it list due date
Class has a some logic programming which can be difficult. But most of the programming has been simplified but the class still covers all basic topics of JavaScript and jQuery. Looking forward to taking other online courses with professor.
Quizzes are difficult, but if you read the book and also tests the code inside of netbeans you can do well on quizzes. For the assignment, you just need to watch the corresponding video, prof does have a lot of web-casts so you have to make sure you watching the right web-casts. All web-casts all labeled well.
Instructor does have due dates, but can complete entire class ahead of schedule. Class has a several web-casts from multiple classes, you need to only follow web-casts from one class. Instructor has a full set of other online content that is well done. Will be taking other Java classes with instructor.
Online class, homework is written out before class even starts. Good teacher.
Assignment page, videos and textbook were clear and detailed, plan to take other classes with this professor.
Tom knows his stuff. First half of the semester is smooth and educational. After that the class become very unorganized as he tries to teach you many things at once. I did learn a lot about Java taking his class. Tom cares about his students, and is an imperfect but solid choice. Much better than many other CS professors at the school.
Finished CIMP 7A - Intro to Java programming over the summer. Great class. Learned how to write at least 12 java programs and professor was always available to help when I got stuck. Quizzes and tests come straight from his power point slides and text book so if you study them, you will ace them. Recommend class for students with no java exp.
CIMP 160 JavaScript jQuery AJAX - online summer course that goes by really quick (6 weeks). A lot of material is covered, wish we had more time. It was challenging compared to his other classes but definitely possible to get an A. There is a lot of extra credit and you can take the quizzes 3 times. He is really good at getting back to you by email.
He's not good. Super unorganized and hard to understand.
You won't get bored.
The good reviews are more than likely faked by him This dude is a complete mess He is unhelpful and asks extremely off topic questions in class that lead no where I am paying for online Java classes to try to pass Do yourself a favor google dedonno cs4a and it will take you to the site he forces you to use go to labs. basic instructions are wack
Very entertaining
Found class site to be very detailed and webcasts were well done.
This guy is so unorganized, his website is a total mess with multiple dated videos covering the same thing. And his email responses are so cryptic and confusing. You will have to rely on yourself for the most part. Read the book and avoid his videos. The quizzes are tough so beware. He also uses a auto-grader for the programs that is very strict.
Database class was easy. My complaint is that he has music blasting in the background of all his web cast videos.. like seriously dude? common.
Found class to be very well organized, just check out his assignment page. Does have extensive online content, have taken many online classes, his was one of the best, but you do need to be familiar with online classes.
took multiple courses with professor, found them all to be well organized, with clear due dates.
Was a fun class, lots of useful information, canvas had all material well laid out, quizzes were tough but not impossible. Plan to complete certificate with instructor.
Java was not an easy class, but all info was well structured. All due dates were listed up front. Prof did provide a lot of material, but only need to watch the most recent webcasts, do not have to search thru previous class webcast lists. Another strong point was all assignment were grade automatically with instant grade feedback.
Class has lots of extra credit, and ample online material. Instructor is accessible by both email and webcasts.
Automated system used to grade assignments; VERY specific on grading criteria, all or nothing (0 or 100%). Tests are difficult (allowed 3 attempts); use book and powerpoints to help. Weird grading: 92-100%A. Lectures show how to program assign. w/ specific numbers; leaves you to figure how to write program w/ input variables--much more complicated
I know quite a lot about the subject of his class, and there are multiple examples of wrong facts and invalid information across his graded quizzes and tests that even a newcomer wouldn't get wrong. His grammar is barely elementary level at times, his video lectures have no effort put into them and he apparently does not check his email at all.
All videos & assignment page were well done. Quizzes are repeatable and come from a large database, you have to understand the material to do well on quizzes. Found no mistakes in quizzes. In order to comprehend quizzes and advances videos you need to come to come to speed on terminology, but material is gradually built upon. Lots extra credit.
Awful grammar in emails/on canvas, course format is confusing, and in his webinars he doesnt even teach - just tells you what to do. Unless you already know everything there is about java, i wouldnt recommend.
Autograder for java program is overly strict- program must be perfect to down to the whitespace or it will fall. No white spaces allowed in code either. Due dates are unclear and confusing- he does not mention when each assignment is due, so you may think you have more time to complete an assignment than you actually due. Avoid him at all costs.
Literally the worst teacher i have had, this guy seriously writes 3 word emails to me, I called him out about being wrong about very simple things that shouldn't be wrong. Very common things that anybody would know. I missed the deadline and i think I will withdraw from this class. NEVER TAKE HIM AVOID AT ALL COSTS
A very fun class, instructors knows a lot about computers and game development . Quizzes had difficult questions, but we had extra credit.
Very specific on how he wants his work done. Grow up its college, just do the work and read the syllabus for due dates and deadlines. Seems really passionate about what he is teaching. Very open minded teacher.
I agree with the last post, I Completed both cimp7a and cimw105, they both use the same grading engine. The grading engine gives detailed instant feedback if you follow instructions and read the assignment you will not have any problems. Professor is responsive to emails.
This opinion is only based on the online class that I took from this professor. For starters the online course I will say that he is terrible. He gives 5 different versions of a book to use for class which doesn't make sense. He uses very outdated recorded lecture videos that don't work or are vague! 80% of the class you need to figure out no help.
Agree with the last post. Teacher is terrible at his job! Best to learn on your own; use the book and learn to how the auto grader works. I passed but only because I didnt listen to him. His emails are cryptic and he is too lazy to correct his grammar or spelling. Go to IVC, the instructors there are much better.
God awful! Material is not hard; if you took the 100 HTML classes, it should be a 'cake'. He is just so unorganized and terrible at explaining. I relied solely on the book. He also does not grade and give feedback for each week; I can only guess my grade. Don't get me started on his emails - written like a 5-year-old who can't type!
To access different materials, you have to use both canvas and his website, the problem is that it's very hard to navigate. It took me three days just to figure out where to start. His Materials are also very outdated, and his lecture videos are no use. He is late to respond to emails too. Just study on your own, and you'll get an A.
Don't think he actually grades anything. Just turned in my work and got no feedback, then got an 'A' at the end. LOL
Have taken several classes, would disagree with previous student who has made several posts. He does use both a class website and canvas, but everything was available on canvas. He had weekly current weekly webcasts that anyone could attend.
The instructor has a funny accent, enjoyed the class, make sure you follow canvas modules and you will have no problems. Also good idea to attend the webcasts and will schedule private webcasts if required.
Mr. DeDonno is a very nice guy. I learned a lot in this class and I enjoyed his instructional videos. On the downside, he could be a little unorganized and some of his video content was kind of dense and convoluted. But for the most part, you will learn a lot of useful stuff. He responds to emails. I would take him again. Easy A if you do the work.
Great teacher. I'm enjoying his video game design class as a beginner, and there are no problems. Only reason he's a 4/5 for me is because of his vagueness at times. His emails and tests have some wrong grammar, but if you can get past that, you won't have problems. Just make sure to study, as he doesn't give study guides. Good luck!!
His lecture materials are outdated and the online tests are pulled from a database so test questions might have multiple answers, not make sense, or are from chapters ahead. His writing is atrocious and can be very difficult to understand. Stick to the book, watch the video lectures, and attend live seminars. He's easier to understand verbally.
Well organized canvas modules, sends out weekly updates, found videos to be very helpful, supplied full databases and interfaces to each student.
he wasnt clear on what you had to do for the final project
I am a high school student and this is the first time I took a community college class. Professor D is very nice and very attentive. I had a lot of questions and he always responded. His lectures are all video's and sometimes the audio was choppy but other than that the material is very straight forward. I enjoyed professor DeDonno a lot!
Best teacher and friend/ mentor listen watch and learn. He is the best instructor forJAVA and CS classes Saddleback is a great school and is debt of this professor. When I started I didn't even know What (#)meant Now I am a webmaster web designer graduate Thank you sir job well done!!
The websites are way out of date and unorganized. Grammatical, capitalization and punctuation errors make the lectures very hard to take notes on, as the professor talks very fast and the audio cuts out in the middle of his sentences. I emailed the professor a few times asking him questions but never got a response. Take a different professor
Class was well organized canvas, had weekly announcements on exactly what needed to be done. Had weekly webcasts, and responded to all my emails promptly. He also made personal calls when I had questions about certificates. One of the best I've had.
VERY unorganized. VERY unclear. VERY confusing. I dropped the class after a few weeks. I can't for the life of me understand the instructions to the homework. The website being used is super outdated( kinda ironic ). I just can't figure out what he wants me to do on the assignments. Quizzes are ok.
I don't recommend. I bet you will regret
Professor uses Canvas for all classes, don't even have to go to the websites. Took several classes with the professor, would take classes from him again. Canvas was well organized, each week we had Monday assignments due, which included videos, assignment and quiz. Just follow canvas structure and you will be pleased.
Professor Tom literally guides you step by step in several videos. To be successful in the class, you need to be very organized. I unfortunately was unable to finish his course due to a health condition. My only regret is not communicating with him, and thanking him for all the opportunities he provided.
Little unclear at times on his lectures, easy to fall behind.
He's...okay. I learned a lot in his class enough to spark an interest but his quizzes are terrible. He offers extra credit. expectations are extremely high for his quizzes, coupled with the fact that grammatically sometimes they don't make sense and you literally have no idea what he's asking. Very convoluted and unorganized, I wouldn't recommend.
The quizzes are stupid sometimes, the grammar is unclear, and when using the submit platform for assignments sometimes, the instructions are unclear on what queries you need to do. Better if you just study SQL yourself.
Everything he uses is so old, and nothing is clear on where to find things.
Some of the tests are really hard and all the questions are old too. He uses outdated methods of SQL and does not teach more modern methods. Also, if you fall behind once, you are pretty much done for unless you save yourself.
Intro to Video Game Design course that doesn't teach much about game design. Very unorganized, most of the lectures talk about the history of gaming tied into the professor's favorite games. Tests are based on some facts but mostly biased opinions on gaming and software/hardware. Final project has vague guidelines and is worth 45% of grade.
Does not teach and the quizzes are on obscure topics that are not fully covered.
Really surprised this guy is still employed at Saddleback. He inserted far right conspiracies into his lectures, he taught outdated information, and his classes were extremely unorganized. An embarrassment to what I would consider a fantastic school. There's even news articles about him and his conspiracy theories he was teaching about in class.
Absolutely unprofessional & useless. The class consists of watching old, long videos from lectures w/ background noise. The course's very unorganized. It's difficult to find queries. The assignments and instructions aren't clear. He's not helping. I had a specific question about queries and instead of explaining he told me to watch a video.
The course itself is really unorganized, don't recommend, especially if not tech savvy. The videos are alright but long. 5+ websites you need to access in order to complete HW. The quizzes are really bad and poorly made. If you take, pay attn to his videos in detail and don't skimp out in the first few modules.
Cool class. Lectures are a bit long, but they will help you understand the class. I learned a lot in this class, there's quite a lot of stuff to go over, so if you get behind, you'll have issues. Nonetheless, he is an excellent professor, straight to the point, really cool guy, and always willing to help. Taking my second class w him.
I enjoyed the lectures and programming videos, and the teacher was very knowledgeable. However, the context of what to learn during lectures and programming assignments and what was tested had no direct correlation. In other words, you were better off reading the book and writing the notes down word for word.
Found class to very well organized, material did build on itself, so class can be difficult if you don't stay up with work. Professor had a simplified database, that allowed me to cover the entire book in an entire weekend.
A fun project-oriented class. You do have to come up with your project title, but the instructor is very flexible in what you can do, and you do review some of the best student projects before making your decision. I found quizzes to be straightforward but need to watch webcasts first.
Agree it was a fun and informative class. Weekly quizzes and tests, the quizzes and tests covering computers and game consoles were difficult, But you can pick up extra credit and projects/discussion boards have a high weight.
The class was very well organized despite using both Canvas and a separate site to hold student databases. It covered the entire SQL language, including advanced topics such as triggers, PLSQL, and constraints. The professor was available every Wednesday afternoon.
Canvas tests were difficult, but you could repeat them and the class also had extra credit quizzes. Overall the class was well organized, with detailed assignment descriptions and corresponding webcasts. If you have problems, just email the instructor, and he will respond promptly.
The class can be challenging, but engaging with the material and using tools like unstuckstudy for study prep can really help. The professor is straightforward and willing to assist.
Lectures are long with no way to speed up/fast forward. The tests contain a lot of biased information and you need a lot of general knowledge/trivia on video games to do well in this class. The project is worth a significant portion of the grade so make sure to spend time on it. Not too much work overall.
Can't say enough good things. Really enjoyed the lectures, you can watch at your own pace, had clear explanations and had good breakdowns of ambiguous coding concepts. Would take any class he teaches.
He's nice and replies to my emails quickly. He usually gives people chances to improve their grades.
