great teacher, take his class
Fun prof, but has difficulty remembering individual students
Attendance is a big deal but classes are really fun and interesting
great professor, makes things interesting
Very very helpful, tests straight from lectures
Good Guy. Class notes important. Don't miss scheduled meetings!

gets tests and papers back super fast
good prof. Watch his finals, there not the same as taught in class
Good prof, but less weighty term paper might be nice.
Had him for Marketing too...great guy. Very helpful just ask.Go to class!!
Lively classes, goes out of his way to help ESL students, will fix unfair marks
Very clear, funny and .
excellent teacher. Take his course!!
a really cool guy - take his course for fun
Great personality& class is fun! If you want to take marketing, take his class!
Got him for marketing too. OB is suppose to be slack. Not anymore.
Take marketing with this guy!!! I looked forward to going to class.
Awesome guy. Easy class, interesting and fun!
Awesome prof. Funny, helpful... all around, Grainger is awesome!
he's so awesome....class time flies by and he makes classes enjoyable!
He is a great prof and makes lectures exciting and interesting!
Teaches productions also, not a bad choice doesn't focus too much on the numbers
Do Not take Productions with Grainger. He is much better with Marketing.
By far the worst professor, I have ever had! He is whats wrong with Corp america
Pretty strange guy but definitely interesting. Can be offensive and shocking.
Very arrogant and narrow minded, don't take his class!
peeps, he's only good for marketing and nothing else. AVOID in productions.
I have never had such an easy course waste so much of my time. Thinks his class is more important than it actually is!
great prof, keeps it enjoyable.

Great prof has alot of lame jokes but well worth your time. if you go to all the classes it is an easy a. exams based on class not book. skip and fail as he says
Very offensive and in-your face! I LOVE IT! VERY VERY FUNNY! His one-liners are great and he keeps your attention. Just show up to every class and you will do fine. Skip and Fail, just like he says!
Very funny, very interesting, very enjoyable and cute in a weird way. He also thinks he's sooo funny!!
very clear, and entertaining
Great Prof. If you have the chance to take a course taught by prof. Grainger go for then chance. He's awsome.
Prof is intersting but uses to much slang a, sometimes hard to understnad b/c he goes to much off topic
He is sucks! He has a strong stereotype!Do not glad to answer students' questions! He got really mass note! No clear explaniation for the concept!Terrible prof I have ever seen!
He never explain things clearly!I don't want to waste my money on his personal experience! He has narrow veiw of the world, and focus local event only!So Bad!
He is the funniest, most entertaining prof I've had yet, uses realistic examples, and aviods being stuffy, boring, or overly politically-correct. If you're so easily offended, maybe you should reconsider being in University in the first place.
Great Prof, It was a fun and informative year, even though he didnt give me and A, I'll give him one.

By far the worst professor I have ever had. Overall Tom Grainger is very biased towards specific students, and once again cofirms the problems with the I.H. Asper School of Business

In a faculty filled with "text reading profs", Toms approach is a welcomed change which facilitates learning with real life examples. Anyone not recognizing that should study via distance education. Much can be learned from this man.
fun professor to listen to for lectures. the fact that he skips all the useless information from the textbook, and only focuses on "the meat" is a welcome change from other classes that nitpick at small details. only beef i have is the marking s
i know that single data is called datum! wow, i learned all i need to know now! this guy is offensive, and i remember my ob class with him had an utterly stupid group project that he thought simulated a real org... yeah, we're the next xerox corp.
Probably one of the most knowlegdeable and influential professors at the university. Tom is a student's prof, he cares about the students a lot more than his research. He is very empathic towards a university student and cares a great deal for them.
A professor that simulates the real-life organization experience for students to learn from. By far one of the most practical courses, taught by a very knowledgable professor. Also, he is very accessible outside of class for additional help.
Very good prof! Takes an interest in students and recognizes those that work hard and particpate. Does not penalize for "passing" on a question he asks. Has a fair grading system if you know your stuff. Tests mostly from the lectures; attend cla
U can learn lotta things from his lectures. Always try to make the lectures more interesting.
INTERESTING PROF. KEEPS THINGS ENTERTAINING.
keeps class entertaining. highly recommended.
International students beware!! Tom hates to repeat himself and has little patience for thick accents.
Tom is definitely one of the best lecturers in this faculty - he is very enthusiastic, he makes sense, and he passes on useful knowledge he has acquired through the years in his own work. If he's teaching a class, make sure you get into Tom's section.
A faculty GEM! Inspirational content based on relevant experiences accumulated from years herding the cattle - so to speak :) The second time around was great, Tom. ;)
not a good teacher
not good
Tom is the best lecturer I have had in the faculty. Don't pass up an opportunity to take a course with him... he explains stuff well and has lots of experience to offer. I don't understand why others say his personality is difficult, he is honest and fair
Very entertaining to listen to but often goes off topic; relatively easy but definitely fair; tends to acknowledge the more 'intelligent' students only
He's the most interesting prof i've ever had. True that you can't always read his mind but if you take notes from his lectures that's exactly what is on the tests.
Best Prof I've ever had...
one great guy... very understanding and keeps your attention... he's BIG on you attending his class... i'd take more of his courses for sure
Entertaining, and gets his message across

BEST PROF EVER!!! I love this guy, he is so entertaining in class and really explains things from a Business propective since worked in Business. Most of the examples he uses is from business experiance not strictly from the book. I want to takeallhisclas
Wonderful Prof., provides excellent and interesting examples. Very fair and helpful. Both Marketing and OB are great classes to take from him.
You'll learn a lot from this man but you probably shouldn't expect a great mark. His classes can seem a bit disorganized. It's hard to follow the structure. His tests are very specific which can be good or bad. A good memory is essential to ace this course. He's a good guy though and entertaining.
Very entertaining
Excellent prof! His rumuor is not for everyone but it made me laugh until i cried!
excellent prof. ease of material is largely due to his crystal clear explanations. very knowlegeable and gives real world value to take with you after grad. keeps things interesting and is very fair. show up and pay attention otherwise don't complain. does he have opinions? yeah, but who doesn't?
Tom's an extremely interesting and entertaining guy. However his classes do not seem to have much structure (sometimes hard to take notes). Very little textbook coverage on his tests. Beware, since he can test you on any of his rambling! Good class with value added, just not to your GPA... :|
An unbelievably empathetic, realistic and reasonable professor. He takes genuine interest in students inside and outside of classes. He teaches concicely and to the point, with clear expectattions as to what will be examined. He also makes classes very interesting with humor and honesty.
Excellent prof! His lectures are extremely interesting and entertaining. He is always available for help after classes. His course material is interesting and his testing methods are fair. I would definitely recommend taking Fundamentals of Marketing or OB with him!!
Not an easy course if you're not his favourite students. His marking depends on who it is. The course is not structured or organized.
Grainger is not only a excellent prof but an amazing, interesting individual. I looked forward to his class each day. The class time seemed to fly by. His marking methods are very fair. It is essential you attend class. He is extremely welcoming for questions during his office hours. I learned a ton.
Entertaining guy that is easy to listen to. He is the most opinionated prof I have ever had though, so if you dont agree with his views then you might end up hating him.
Loved the class. I disagree with students who say you have to agree with his opinions. You are welcomed to express your persepctive. However, just know what you are talking about because he is a well educated man who has read a lot about the things he talks about and will be able to debate with you
Great courses taught by a very competent professor! His courses are filled with useful life lessons and interesting anecdotes. He's also an extremely funny guy. Probably the most useful courses I've taken in my entire degree and that says volumes since I'm a comp sci grad and these are mgmt courses!
Awful hard course. IF your in commerce take a course with a prof who is not egotistical and knows how to teach!

Tom has the ability to introduce new ideas and originality into his class lectures. He is readily available to help students beyond classroom obligations. He also provides constructive & valuable feedback. Very pleased to have been in his class.
Grainger is a good guy. i appreciate his style, and his opinions sometimes rub people the wrong way but lighten up people! we need more professors who dont shy away from the truth. and its true that ESL students tend to do worse! keep up the good work Tom. Thanks!
True he is a little rough at times and does have a slip of the tongue sometimes, but he is a very smart man and teaches the way teachers should teach. People who don't like him, are students who make an effort not to like him, just accept who he is and you'll do fine
Very honest and direct approach! Brings practical experience to the classroom - very refreshing! Great prof!
Grainger Rocks! His assign/exams are fairly easy and straight forward. Fair marking practices. Heavy emphasis on lecture material!!! A bit disorganized when lecturing. His commentary on businesses is important to the class; it provides real life examples of the successes and failures of marketing. He is not malice or egotistical as some have said.
Once you get past the pretentious attitude, it's not that bad I guess.
I see three types of profs: Pure (published academics; Successuful professionals giving something back; and unsuccessful 'masters level' folks needing a job. Grainger is clearly in the third class, and hopefully, Asper will get better quality profs in the near future. Avoid him at all cost!

I took this course over the summer, and he made it go very quickly. He encorporated real business practices, and showed us real examples of what good marketing and bad marketing are. He encouraged us to speak up and share our ideas and experiences, and taught us to think in the marketing frame of mind.
He is absolutely a shame in UofM! totally not helpful, and he assumes every student is stupid, you must memorize everything he says in the lecture in order to prove he is wrong. He is the last good professor in the universe!
great prof wonderful to learn fun and very interactive

Very animated in class; kept my interest. Taught what was important and left out the fluff. Very compassionate and friendly. Great Prof!
An excellent Prof. I thought he was fair in marking and testing. The classes were interesting because of the content he presented as well as the discussions topics he introduced to the class. I recommend taking this class with Prof Grainger!
Lectures are animated and your attention will be held. His tests are fair, but not easy. You are expected to do readings outside of class which he tests on, but will not necessarily cover in class. Sometimes his comments could be taken as controversial (he has opinions on everything it would seem)
insensitive at times. Class can be fun yes but it wouldnt kill anyone to be a little more pc. because in the real world..he can get into big doo doo with his choice of words.
BEST PROF IN ASPER!!
He is very helpful and flexible
Strange teaching style. Looks the part by dressing nicely, but seems a little off at times. Some people like him, I just didn't hit it off, which turned out to hurt me in the end. Apparently, you gotta get on his good side quick, then things will go well. Wish I knew that in September :(
Excellent professor, very funny. A true business man; knows how to captivate his audience and hold them. Course may seem easy-it's not. Studying and logic yields a good mark. Over-the-top jokes are a welcome change from starchy, boring profs. Big group project shows you how much work some do, and how little others do. Great class-Highly recommended
The last rater seems appreciative of the show aspect in class. I am not. I go to school to learn from educated professors, not entertained by compensatory antics. Entertainment is present until marks start getting randomly handed out, then the show is over. Go to someone who doesn't need to compensate for a lack of qualifications.
One of, if not, the best prof at Asper. Pure lecture; dont read the textbook. Take a tape recorder, listen to lecture afterwards, and review frequently. The concepts are really straight forward. This is all I did and I got an A+ in both of his classes. Hardly writes any notes. Just listen and write down everything he says. You'll learn tons!!
good prof it's good to see someone who likes what they do!
Clear that he is into the subject. So much nicer to learn from someone who cares about what they do.
I like your class, is good to learn with somebody that is always happy.
Great Guy. Ask him a questions about stock tips. Very knowledgeable and interesting. I highly recomend him.
I took marketing with him and thought I was learning lots, but his seminar style of teaching limits your learning to his personal experiences. Discussions with other profs has opened my eyes to his limited approach.

Not a bad professor, lectures are interesting but super hard to take notes from... you'll learn way more from the textbook... clarity is an issue with him and assignments...
His instructing of the course is very interesting and useful. You need to know how to take u-level notetaking for his class lectures, its usually made up of examples of each topic. Check twice and look carefully on each assignment,as you can make mistakes. But he sometimes uses wrds of the female dog too much. Bring a name card to class everytime.
Highfalutin and self absorbed, but entertaining.
Mr. Grainger was a very enthusiastic professor who kept class interesting and exciting. His teaching style was very hands on and his quizzes, mid-term, and final were all very fair. He had endless valuable application stories that helped provide clarity. He knew when to be serious and when to be funny and managed to provide a bit of both.Good Jb
Tom is very 'out there' and free minded. You either love him or hate his teaching style. The text book is useless, and if you don't attend every class there is no way you will pass this course. I found his notes very scattered, his marking somewhat difficult, and he's not as approachable as he believes he is. However, still a decent course
Just go to class, write down every word he says, and read it over a few times. His tests are super easy.
He is great. He is extremely approachable. He is fun loving with a good sense of humor. He will extend every opportunity you need. He is extremely flexible and his class is worth going to.

Very funny and keeps you interested. If english is your second language, it may be a little difficult. But all in all, the best prof I had in U of M
Great Prof! Intelligent and kept the class very interesting. Enjoyed attending his lectures maybe a little too much. Would definately recommend him!
Grainger is a fantastic prof! He has a great sense of humour, his classes are fun and I always looked forward to his lectures. It's easy to get an A+ (like I did) if you attend all his classes, listen and take good notes. It's almost impossible to pass if you skip most of his classes. The choice is up to you!
AWESOME prof!! i actually loved going to class, his lectures are so interesting, he uses current popular companies as examples for everything so it's actually info worth knowing and super interesting! Definitely recommend taking his class if you have the chance, he's the reason I decided to continue on with Marketing!
Completely egotistical and self righteous.

excellent teacher! always captures your attention and interest, i hate textbooks, and he's not a text book guy! excellent! he's a great prof and holds the passion for teaching, but the GROUP PROJ just killed me, my marks were ski high in his class, but the grp proj just didn't make it worth much in the end. SO DO WELL IN THE GRP PROJ! good day!
Tom is a fantastic prof. very easy going but fair. i recently graduated and he had no problem writing an excellent letter of reference for me. go to class and speak up, it'll help you.
Tries to make simple subjects much more difficult then they should be. Instructions are not clear at all. Very nice guy, but many of his stories dont seem that credible (mostly his personal opinion).
Explinations seem to go on and on with no conciveable end in sight, not to mention they are clear as mud. He rattles off stastics as if he is a stastician, but he's a marketing prof, statistics seem made up on th spot (just my opinion). And whats the point of making us buy a textbook if hes going test on the material covered in class?!?
He is a great prof. Very funny and keeps things interesting. In order to excel in this class you must go to every lecture because his notes do not translate well with the textbook. At times his notes may be hard to understand but for the most part they are good. I do agree sometimes that his stories sound fake or made up on the spot but who cares.
Um, Um, Um, Um, Um.... Definitely an amusing prof, but certain quirks are sometimes difficult to ignore. Teaching style is unorthodox but granted the subject material is boring. Going to his office and introducing yourself is apparently favored (although he won't mention that). He's doing the best he can I guess; I'd suggest to try someone else.
I took Grainger's OB section last year. He's a really good prof. His classes are funny, interesting and entertaining.I actually looked forward to his classes. I wanted to take some more courses with him this year but unfortunately the school only gave him 1 class! The U of M needs to let him teach more subjects !They should definitely use him more!
Tom was a great prof. I went to class everyday and made sure I had my name card. Likes to get to know students by name. Speak up and show some interest, tell him about your experiences and you will do well in the class. Highly suggest taking a class of his.
One of the best profs in Asper, hands down. His classes aren't 90 minute PowerPoint presentations like so many of the others. Tom actually makes class fun through discussions and exercises. Test material is heavily weighted towards material learned in class. If you don't get a good grade, you've only got yourself to blame ie. for not showing up.
Funny! Class was always fun, but exams and assignments were weirdly unorganized. Not sure if it was intended to stretch our minds, but I found the whole lack of organization distracting . Some profs get a power trip out of marking - I think this is one of them.
I took his MGMT Theory class last fall and came out disappointed. He has an engaging teaching style, however, he managed to alienate a portion of his class through his blatant political bias and other annoying quarks. Students would consistently roll their eyes at this kook. He's a very odd individual to say the least. If you can... avoid him
Great prof! He is fair, interesting, his exams are not a surprise. I've even found myself using a lot of the material outside of the class. I highly recommend showing up for class because because that is what is mostly tested. If you are going to take this course, take it with him!
overall i great prof. sometimes a bit scattered but at the end of the day cares a lot about his students and his work!
Easy "A"... If you can stand to sit through the lectures, that is. He thinks he's "edgy", but he's really... not. He drove me nuts with his relationship advice, dry jokes, and overall attitude. If you're going to take him, suck it up, suck up, and NEVER challenge him (even if you're right - he'll hate you for life). One of the worst profs ...
Tom provides lots of interesting material unrelated to the course which I actually find useful. He plays favorites all year which is highly annoying if you have any degree of critical thinking dont take it he frowns on opposing views to his own. you have to attend every class bc he tests on what he says even when what he says is just his opinion.
Just took it in intersession - every day of the week for two hours. I actually looked forward to each class as I found him engaging and entertaining. Worth showing up every day just to hear the outrageous things that come out of his mouth. Extremely easy class and enjoyable, pleasant prof. Recommended.
The biggest tip ever. Attend Class. Tests are 90% material from class. If you attend all classes, you will have no problem getting a B or an A. Know the big topics that he talks about in class, and the little stuff is not as important. He is also very fun to listen to. He has his favourites though, and always talks to them. Overall great prof.

Tom is a great prof. He has clear explanations and uses humor to make it more interesting. His tests are fair and he is engaging. When doing his final, the longer the answer the more correct it usually is. And, he likes to do All of the above, two of the above stuff on multiple choice. GREAT PROF Take classes with him if you can. GO TO CLASS!!!!!!
I had him for OB and Marketing and let me give you one tip: GO TO CLASS! Alot of tested material is from lectures and the lectures aren't boring either. He makes class fun and enjoyable. He teaches alot of courses, so try to get him if you can!
great prof. i looked forward to going to class and it was at 8:30 in the morning. rarely uses the text.. dont really need it that much. he tells a lot of related and interesting life stories. yes he has favorites, but hes not rude to anyone. pretty easy class.. but you HAVE to attend every class. id recommend him to anyone!
he was a GREAT teacher... he was funny, told interesting stories and made the material very easy to understand...this course is not heavily based on the txt book its 90% notes so GO TO CLASS ...and he also likes a lot of class room contribution by students
He loves to tell his stories and rant about facts he claims to know, which tends to keep students attention. He however has a very abstract way of explaining things, and tends to mumble and fumble over his words at times. Theres instances where he completley sketches out and has to reset himself. its weird. but funny.really high strung it seem
Embarrasses students, believes only his opinions are correct, and rambles on in class about unrelated stories. I would never select him as a professor again.
worst prof i've ever taken at uofm. Uses ripped up looseleaf as his notes. Lectures are everywhere and note taking is hell. Talks about one thing and goes back and forth with other topics without any structure. Picks favourites. Midterm is all short/long answer, not hard but hard markers. Final had no connection to what we learned in class.
One of my favourite classes to go to. Awesome Prof, always interesting, and going to class and paying attention was the only real prerequisite for a good final grade. Was also extremely considerate and reasonable when I had an exam mix up. If you check this grainger, thanks. :)Would consider taking other courses just to have him as a prof again.
I learned a lot!!!! Honestly, I looked forward going to his classes. Make sure your attentive Grainger was always approachable and helpful. You can totally tell that he loves what he does..... He wants to see students do well.
Grainger is an enthusiastic professor who kept class interesting and moving. He likes to get his students involved in class discussions. Its worth going to class (tests reflect lectures). take his class!!!
Tom is a professor who is hard to come by. He captures your attention with his witty humor and interesting stories. He encourages you to use your brain, something not many profs do. Most importantly, he is the only professor I have had so far who has faith in his students; he wants you to succeed. Don't be afraid to talk to him!
Very interesting prof. Made great examples to learn from. Fairly easy tests and you get 5% pretty much for free for attending 3 subject pool classes. ;)
Prof talks a lot about his life. Talks every class about stocks, and goes off topic alot. He is humerous. Hard to learn from. Hard Marker, expects you to be very technical on exams. Gets way to into detail about examples. All over the place in lectures.
I don't know what the last guys problem was but this professor is quite good. Not only do you get the course info but you get real life experiences as well. This helps with comprehension of the subject. If you are like the last guy to rate this prof (have no common sense and can only memorize a textbook) then don't take this class with this prof.
I love this professer!! I find him hilarious, and his lessons are GREAT. What I learnt from him will definitly be an asset to me in the future when working in an organization. Very relevant lectures to apply to real world settings. If you learn better from memorizing a text book, this is not the prof to selcect.
Very interesting prof. Tells great examples in class that are very relevant. Fairly easy tests and you get 5% pretty much for free for attending 3 subject pool classes. ;)
Very fair and reasonable prof, really enjoyed his lectures and teaching style. I would definately recommend this prof for ob
Lots of great stories to tell. Very interesting man.
Incomprehensible notes (usually a few random scribbles on the board which DO NOT help you at all with future studying). Pointless tangents, inaccurate information, stupid ideas of his that he likes to work into the class ('ya-but birds' and 'a slog on the bog in the fog'), and unfair marking on the midterm. Everything makes for an awful prof.
Lectures are MANDATORY. 85% of what is tested comes from lectures. Lectures are interesting but at time difficult to determine what is important and what is just a silly story. Quite opinionated and can be inappropriate. Personally he isn't my style of professor but I can see how some people would like him.
He has a really different style of teaching than most profs and it was not the kind i like at all. His notes were just a disaster and very unorganized but most of the exam questions were from the lecture so you have to go to every class and study your notes a lot. I do not recommend him at all.
Do not take any of his classes. He has the worst teaching style. Does not stick to the class material, and goes on and on with pointless stories that has nothing to do with the class. Does not know where to draw the line with his "humor".
I don't like his teaching style. He could be really rude and it's extremely hard to take notes in his class. The midterm was hard so be prepared.
Content was interesting enough. Midterm was mostly all class stuff. Skip the rest of the classes since final is all textbook with the occasional class question. Wasted so much class time with random stories. The ones that weren't random were helpful though. Has clear favorites in class. Ignores everyone else. Still the best prof to take this with.
Very strange teaching style to get used to, but if you attend class and participate you will get a very good grade. I got an A and spent almost no time studying outside of class. His lectures are crucial to the exam (almost no textbook use) I really learned a lot from this prof and would definitely take a class with him again.
Just the worst prof in the world...
Very intelligent prof. Very unique teaching style,he does not rely on the text book. All his lectures are coming from his real life experience. One of the best lectures I've attended. Also very knowledgeable in many aspect of business, not just marketing. One of my favorite profs, you can learn a lot from him.
The negativity of many comments is incomprehensible to me. I lament his leaving as he was the most interesting/mentally challenging prof. at Asper. You never looked at the clock in his classes. Always tried to make points meaningful and personal for students with occasionally outrageous examples and stories. Edgy but I remembered them.
