Chemistry sounds boring and hard, but not with Guffrey! It is SO VERY EASY! You don't even have to take the final if you already have enough points to get an A with exams, extra credit, assignments, etc. He gives a lot of points for nothing! Take him!

PAY ATTENTION IN THIS CLASS! It's easy to get lost if you've never taken Chem because of all the "fun stuff" because you may think you can zone out. Pay attention and it's easy, he offers enough extra credit to raise your grade by two letters, but make sure you have a clue about the material.

I came into this class with little interest in science, yet Tom has showed me a whole new side of it. There just aren't teachers like him anymore, and he genuinely wants to get to know every student. I feel like people take advantage of Tom's kindness, but he's incredibly sweet.All you need is 550 points to get an A and I got 610 and I don't fair too well with science..shows how understanding and great his grading scale is.Go to office hours and do news reviews(the points build up)& always go to lab so you have a strong foundation for a grade.

Tom Guffrey is the best Chem 100 professor here at CSULB. You have to take his class he do demos at the end of class and it's so entertaining plus he is extremely genrous and funny. Offers 100+ bonus points. Test are very easy. TAKE HIM RECOMMEND.

Tom is EXTREMELY helpful, easy A if you go to lecture (4 pts each time) & participate. I hate science, especially CHEM and I passed w/flying colors. He loves his job,life& FIRE (he's a pyro!). Definatley take this class 4 an easy GPA booster& break from ur core classes. if u get @ least a B on the 3 tests, final is optional. Labs only take an hr.

Never thought I'd get an A in a science class til I took Gufrey's class. I actually learned, not just memorized facts. He's very approachable if you ever have any doubts. BTW, he makes it rain with extra credit points so there's no way you can get anything lower than a B in his class.

I have only had Professor Gufrey for a week and i already love the guy. Professor Gufrey is very clear on what he expects out of the class and does a great job at teacher Chemistry. Honestly, Professor Gufrey is going to be one of the best professors you will ever have at CSULB (if you can even get into his class). He is such a wonderful professor that makes a rather difficult subject to comprehend for normal people, enjoyable and ballistic fun. He makes it worth showing up to this otherwise typical GE class in the afternoon.

Tom is great! He goes by a point system that seems scary at first, but he gives tons of extra credit and really wants to make sure that his students pass. He has 3 exams and an optional final. How much work you have to do really depends on your lab instructor, since they check all the "homework." Other than that, super easy class.

Even though I took CHEM before (because I was in pre-nursing major), his lecture was really interesting. He is so cute! I love him :) There are only 3 exams. Lab instructor checks up the binder (it should have all worksheets, homework, etc), but if you have a nice cool instructor, there is only one check up at the end of semester.

TAKE HIM! JUST SHOW UP, GO TO LAB AND PASS FIRST 3 EXAMS AND YOU WILL GET AN A! BEST PROFESSOR EVER! HE IS THERE FOR YOU WHEN YOU NEED IT!

He's a sweet old guy who tries to make this class as easy and as fun as possible, but sometimes veers a little too much into uncomfortable humor and political statements that have nothing to do with the class. Also, everything is done through handouts and packets which are a chore to deal with and amount to a lot of busywork. Otherwise very easy.

He offers SO much extra credit so it is almost impossible to fail the class. He also has practice tests and review sessions before every exam, which are extremely helpful!!

Tom is such a great instructor, and honestly, this class was one of the classes I looked forward to attended during the semester. He makes lecture very fun and informative. He provides a multitude of study guides, practice exams and a bunch of EC opportunities it's really difficult for someone not to get an A. Highly recommend, you won't regret it!

Easiest A. Show up, pay attention, do the assignments, and pass! Tons of extra credit and practice tests. SUPER EASY!!! If you get anything lower than an A its not because of the professor or point system. It's your fault, because he makes it possible for you to do horrible on exams and still get an A. Take him!!!!

Tom's class is super easy, it was worth it to come to class for all the explosions. He's pretty corny with the jokes and the songs, but you can really tell he loves his job and is very passionate in making sure everyone understands the material. It is chemistry, and if you're like me, it can get boring. But Tom does his best to make it fun and understandable. Go to the office hours that do test prep. If you go to class everytime, go to lab everytime, and pass the tests, you'll do fine. Also, he rents the textbook out so don't buy it. The lab and ABC ones you have to buy though

This is an easy class even if you dislike chemistry, Tom makes it worth taking. He has one of the best sense of humor and his homework and lab reports are pretty easy and he gives lots of extra credit.

Tom's lectures are great, although class is fun/funny it is still informative. If you don't do too well on exams you can make up the points with extra credit. Must take for a 4 unit A--it helps your GPA!

Dr. Gufrey is by far my favorite teacher I have ever had out of my four years at CSULB. He is so passionate about Chemistry and it truly shows, which I really appreciate since it's rare to find teachers like that now-a-days. Show up to office hours in the BEGINNING of the semester for the easier points, get 60% or higher on all exams, show up to lab and do the homework and you'll do great! Missed class 5 times, missed lab once, I got 60 on all exams, but the points from office hours help a lot.

Tom is a silly guy, encourages students to stop by office hours, and he loves to end class with a fire. He provides demos for the class and applies the lesson of the day to explain what is happening. He also sells the chemistry book for $20! Make sure to study, chemistry is not learned the day before the exam plus you have a practice exam to study.

Class is mandatory, but he does demos to make it fun and you get bonuses for showing up. Doesn't post anything online (he's not young so he's old school)

Tom is by far the best professors I've had at csulb. He really wants everyone to pass the class. if you get better than 60% on all tests and show up to class you get an A. tests are a bit hard because i don't really get chemistry but i still received the A. if you can take Tom do yourself a favor and do, you will get an easy A!

Tom is a great professor, he really loves what he does and he makes class as entertaining as possible. I wish all professors were like him.

Absolutely hands down my favorite teacher here at CSULB! I always struggled with Chemistry, but Tom allowed me to find an appreciation for the subject and it's so easy to get an A! If you go to his office hours, you get soo much extra credit for the easiest assignments and he will clarify any questions you have! I love coming to class every Tu/Th!

One of the best professors I've had while attending here! He made chemistry so much fun and understandable. I'm not really much of a science person, especially chemistry, but it was pretty do able. I was able to move my grade from a B to an A because he gave me chance and gave me that one extra point I needed! Always show up to class and do the HW!

Tom is indeed a real gem! I was never really a chemistry person, but Tom made chem SO enjoyable and his motto of 'kindness matters' really shines through him. Such a caring, funny, and understanding professor and it's also really easy to get an A with all the extra credit he offers - HE'S AN ABSOLUTE MUST TAKE AT CSULB!

Hands down best professor I've ever had. He loves what he does, and he loves his students. He wants to make chemistry easy and enjoyable for everyone. Every day he does whatever he can to make it funny and exciting. Amazing class. Textbook only used for hw questions (he will rent you textbook). A LOT of extra credit easy A

So so so KIND! do yourself a favor, and take him! lab wasn't the best but if you get above a 60% on all three midterms you can drop the final which is nice. Also, make sure you go to office hours because the bonus points will make or break your grade. Lectures were always so fun to watch! only issue is he gives you way tooooo many handouts

Great professor if you have to take chem100. 3 midterms and you dont have to take the final if you get above 60% on all of them. I knew chem prior and found myself SO bored b/c attendance is mandatory. Expect a fire in every class (seriously)

tom is actually the best professor ever. he puts so much effort into his lectures to make them entertaining . even though his class is a large lecture, he still learns everyones name. the class is soo easy to pass, so many bonus points are offered. tom is a really funny guy and always made me laugh every class.

Tom is amazing! He so so dedicated to Chemistry in which you will see through his demos. He preaches Kindness Matters. Offers A LOT of extra credit but attendance is mandatory if you want to pass. Make sure to go to his office hours for bonus points! Easy A. HIGHLY RECOMMEND even if you dont like Chemistry.

I just wanted to share that Professor Tom Gufrey just CALLED ME (three years after I graduated) to thank me for singing his self-written Chemistry National Anthem for the class. He wished me luck in my career and reminded me that "kindness matters". He truly remembers and cares about every single one of his students! Still in shock.
