Very nice fella. and also Very engaging. I loved his class and would definitely take him agian.
Very relaxed... Interesting discussions. He'll talk the whole time if no one in class participates. All the work is a midterm (take home if the class wants), term paper that's 6-8 pgs, and an inclass final essay (3 topics). When you go to class take good notes
Great professor but some lectures just wouldn't end. He spent two weeks talking about his tree perspective concept. I didn't read any of the books and I got a B in the class. Honestly, just go to class, take notes and you should do fine. You will need the texts for references on your term paper.
sorry, but very boring teacher. the worst class i have had in college as far as excitement. only about half the class ever attended the sessions. basically just goes over the books that you have to read and that's it for the whole lecture. just some essays and you're done with this class. easy.
BORING LECTURES...be warned. Can easily get a C, but don't hope for too much more unless you are really into Kafka and his imaginary trial...I hated lectures. I would take less then a half a page of notes.
Easiest critical thinking class you can take. The lectures can get boring, but he goes over everything, so you never have to read. Great class if you're looking for an easy A.
attendence is not mandantory, don't have to do any of the reading or even buy the books, just listen to what he says in class. and if you just come once in awhile you'll still know what's going on since he repeats the same thing every class.
very repetitive. you dont learn anything. grades weirdlly
rambles on and on .....

Very easy - just go to lecture and pay attention and you'll be fine. Nice guy - can be a bit boring sometimes, but then everyone would also complain if he made you do too much, so think about what you'd rather have
Really nice guy. He knows his stuff. Books are interesting but you don't really have to read them. He goes over everything in class. Easy points thru out the year. He gives take home tests all the time. He is sometimes a bit redundant and can be easily taken off the subject but I recommend this class. Gives great analogies.
Prof. Haeussler may seem boring to some but he really is a great teacher! if you ever have any probs. just go and talk to him. you can be sure he'll help you out. 2 of our 3 exams were take-home and the final was very predictable. Easy and interesting class for anyone who has ever picked up a book before in their life.
Before taking this class i expected it would be more about comedy. But after taking it, it was more about philosophy. Its a easy class, I did very little reading and got a B. Theres about 6 small philosophy novels which the material is based off of. Overall there is a 8pg paper, midterm and final. Highly recommend taking class with this instructor.
haeussler's rad. he's so smart. and he's funny too, if it's not 8am and evreybody's pissed and tired. he's reasonable too. always tells you what he wants from you and he'll always help you if you ask, i loved him and i'd take him again for sure.
Didnt have to read the books at all, his lectures are really informative. Take really good notes, listen up, and you'll do fine
He is really cool! Just go to class and you will ace the tests. He outlines all the stories for you and then you discuss.
Very good and easy teacher. Tells you everything you need to know for the tests and essays in class. Gives you plenty of time with each assignment. If you don't read you can still go to class and learn everything you need to know to pass.
He's a really intelligent man and this is by far the easiest GE I've taken. We had 2 quizzes, a midterm, a term paper, and a final. We thoroughly analyzed every paper or exam in class. Plus, the literature reviewed is simple enough to analyze on your own. Doesn't take attendance but it's an easy A if you go. You're braindead if you don't pass...
He's a really smart guy and he makes you laugh too! I recommend taking him!
pretty easy class, dont need to really read if you go to class, good lectures, he makes class interesting, and he is a really nice guy
He is a really awesome teacher! Yeah, sure, you have to buy a lot of books for this class, but his lectures make it all worth it! He is extremely insightful, and his friendly personality makes it a fun class. Basically, as long as you attend class, understanding the material shouldn't be a problem. He is also very lenient on due dates. :)
Can you say AWESOME, AWESOME, AND AWESOME! He is the greatest teacher ever. He analyzes all the material during his lectures. If your a good note taker you will pass all the exams and papers with flying colors.
i absolutely loved him! he reads to you in class, so if you go to class and listen youll do fine! all the tests are take home essays and he almost always extends the deadline. hes a really cool guy and knows what hes talking about! such a great class!!
He goes in-depth on the analysis in all his lectures so just make sure you regurgitate the stuff he tells you in the take-home papers. You can half pay attention and still do fine.
Such a rewarding class... Prof Haeussler is very knowledgeable on the subject and is extremely passionate! He uses famous stand-up comics to get his point across and it works!! No BS! He lectures, always on time, explains the assignments well & exams are take home. Final is in class! AWESOME!!!!
Interesting stories. He is extremely boring, but has some funny jokes @ times. He LOVES to talk.Attendance not mandatory. He is ONLY easy if u can WRITE essays. His tests are all essay tests.Midterm=take home.Final in class.Don't need ANY books if u show up to class & take good notes.Use these notes in essay and you'll do well. He's a great guy.
TAKE THIS TEACHER!!!!! it will be the best decision you make...there's NO WAY you'll regret it. interesting/funny/easy. Although attendance is "optional" i found myself looking 4ward to going to his class. YOU WILL ACTUALLY LEARN!!!
he is great and very funny. in a way, he reminds me of george from seinfield. his lectures were boring but the books were quite interesting. hes pretty lenient. he lets you come and go as you please. there are 2 papers to write and one extra credit. i did not find it too difficult.
Lectures were sometimes hard to get through, but overall an easy A if you attend class and read the material. He is pretty lenient when it comes to grading (only 3 papers in total for the entire course). Attendance is also optional, but it definitely benefits you to attend.
He's a great teacher and really gets you to think... this class is easy if you can write a good essay. Take this teacher!!
Folklore and Mythology is a really interesting class. You have to buy a couple books and read them all but they are good books. Attendance not mandatory but the only way to get a good grade is to go and listen to lectures because he'll give you the answers in class. Two essays for the exams, 1 paper, and 1 supplemental paper. Easy and fun class
course material- BORING! 3 papers- easy if you take notes on everything he says and put that in your paper. In class essay final- take good lecture notes! OVERALL CLASS IS BORING, MATERIAL OUTDATED, PROF. FUNNY, BUT CLASS MATERIAL IS NOT. NOT WHAT I EXPECTED IT TO BE. OH AND THE PROF REALLY DOES LOOK LIKE GEORGE CASTANZA!! HAHAHA
Nice guy, but class is very dull. He repeats himself a lot and I think it's just because he likes to hear himself talk. I thought it was because people skip class a lot, but I talked to him in his office and he was the same way. Nevertheless, the class is an easy A and the works are relatively amusing. I got to do an essay on Arrested Development!
Class is boring. He tries to be funny but he really isn't. Pretty easy course as long as you can write and know what he is looking for. one short test take home midterm, term paper (take home) and a possible take home final.
he is funny and very nice, BUT HIS TA ISN'T. his TA does all the grading... and she's a tough grader for cwl 100. what the prof. tells us and what he wants on our paper... i made sure to include it.. but she knocks out points for the things he explicity wanted in our papers. when you confront her, she said she didn't knock out pts for that... BS!!
dude his T.A. sucks. she can't grade at all. he says one thing and she goes the opposite. that can really hurt you on your papers/ exams. he needs to stop being so LAZY nd do some grading himself!
Easy and awesome teacher. He lectures on very interesting stuff and I thoroughly enjoy actually going to class. He will push back tests, exams if needed and is a really nice guy.
prof is awesome. lots of readings. pushes papers back. you only do well if you read and know how to write good papers. WATCH OUT FOR THE AIDE. she's a hard grader. your grade will be in HER hands because the prof. doesn't grade at all!!!! BEWARE!
I really think he's a good teacher, because he knows when to cut college students some slack. We were supposed to have an in-class midterm essay, but he let us take it home and some people even turned it in late! His TA does all the grading. Although staying on top of reading is necessary, analyzing and discussion skills are bound to improve!
I saw a lot of people complain about the AIDE. She does not know how to grade a paper, as a result you will get a failing grade because of her stupid grading. The professor does not care at all.
Funny teacher, pleasant, can be repetitive, but it overall willing to help students in need. He's understanding too (:
such a wonderful professor! i LOVED his class and hope to take another with him. his aide is nice, and does what she has to do. so everyone complaining, get over it! the class was so much fun.
liked the class except for one thing: his Aide sucks. hard grader, therefore your grade WILL SUFFER! be careful. prof. is nice though
He receives full pay for doing half of his job, since he did not even do the grading. The TA is not qualified to grade our papers because she only has a BA degree. Our fate depends on her hands. Very disappointed in this class.
He is a really cool professor. very layback. The subject matter is soo dry. We had to buy 7 books for this class. But the total was under $100. What sucks is his TA does the grading and she grades WAYYY TOOO HARD for a 100 level class. She really frustrated me and dont recommend this class.
Haeussler is more like a public speaker who is there to talk about life and motivation. He really likes to connect his literature with his life (goes super deep into his life experiences)! Get him to draw on the board about the literature!! Take the class, because you'll pass!
One of the best professors I have ever had at CSULB. There is a lot of reading though. But you don't really have to do all of the readings to pass his class, just go to class and pay attention to all his lectures. He will go over what was supposed to be read. You will learn a lot about the truths of life. It's a very, very interesting class.
The best professor I have ever had at CSULB. You will learn a lot of interesting things. Make sure to not stay behind in the reading because there is a lot of reading, but you don't really have to do all the reading. If you take good notes on his lectures and write down the page numbers, you should be able to pass the class with an "A."
Easy class. Tell you everything you need to know for the tests. His TA was a pushover and graded very easy, even though people complain, they must just be dumb, I showed up to about every other class or so and got an A
This class was super easy. Pretty much told you what was going to be on the tests. Do all of the assignments, show up for class, and you should pass. I did and got an A.
Easy A, but probably the worst class I have taken at CSULB thus far. I feel like the entire semester was him talking in circles about the readings (shallow) and sports that he could have summed up in one class period. Ugh. Do not take him especially if you are CompLit. I have no idea why he has such a high rating on here.
Great professor... Would apply the reading material to everyday life. Did the reading, showed up to class and got an A.
Other than the fact that I disliked the presentation and material in this class, it was alright. All of the assignments were written and if you attend class even half the time and pay attention, you will have enough to write on. Easy class, but boring, politically correct material and boring presentation - lots of talking and repetition.
i took comic spirit and it was super easy and fun! i am not a book person and have the hardest time writing papers (it's just not my thing) and i got a B in the class! whoot! the books he chose were fun/funny so i was able to read it without a problem.
Based on previous ratings here, I was sure this class would be an enjoyable, easy one. All to the contrary! The professor was 15 minutes late to mostly every class, had a heavy, muddled speech & voice (it was work to listen, write notes), and he assigns very boring, outdated books. His essays: equally boring. Avoid this professor. Zero to learn.
The amount of writing really made this class more difficult than I thought it would be. There's a midterm exam, supplemental review, term paper, and final exam. I probably did more reading and writing in this class than all my other classes combined for the semester. I didn't find the selection of books all that interesting, but..oops ran out space
Great teacher! A brilliant man, very interesting. A lot of writing but he is fair in grading. He gives benefit of the doubt which many other profs lack. You will get an A if you do the work. I got a low grade on a paper and was able to earn an A in the class. Talk with him outside of class if there are problems, very understanding.
You hear the same EXACT lecture every class for the first 4 weeks. "Everyone has a different perspective."He's a nice man, but the class was annoying and I dreaded attending it. He spends hours on a concept you understood in the first five minutes. I didn't even read half of the books we had to buy and came out with a B. annoying, but doable.
Took his class my freshman year, i thought it would be difficult but it was REALLY easy. Compared to previous literature classes. Dont need to buy/read the books because he goes over the plot and what you need to know in his lectures. Funny man, quite amusing and he kinda looks like Fred Flinstone
Great professor, has lots of witty comments. The material is not the most interesting unless you love that kind of literature. He makes the material less boring with his hilarious commentary. He is by far the best teacher to take for Comic Spirit. No homework, all term papers(2 + 1 final)throughout the semester.
Easy class. Read the books, show up once in awhile. Go to class on quiz days and final. Turn in papers. Easy. Laid back professor, nothing to worry about type.
This class was one of my favorites. Even though it was just straight lectures, he presented the material in a very interesting way. So if you actually listen, its a class worth going to. Attendance isn't mandatory but it helps, read the books, show up for the EASY quizzes, and put some thought into the papers (not hard at all) and you're good.
Great class! I enjoyed learning about play and games that involve zany and crazy characters. I wished I paid more attention because he pretty much gives you the answers in class for the 2 essays in class (but this is indirectly, you must listen because he points out major points of the book). He's witty and funny. Take his class, you'll love it!
Hes a reasonable grader just make sure you are analyzing the novels or literature. When he grades its depth over breadth. As long as you can support at least 2 points really well then your fine. If your just looking for an easy GE class then avoid, too much reading is expected. If you like literature then take him, you will enjoy the class.
lots of reading involved but got pretty good grades on the essays though i didnt read much. can tell he's really into sports. 2 reading quizzes, two papers and a final essay. attendance not mandatory but take good notes if you dont want to read!!
I wanted to like this class as I'm very interested in medicine. I'm sorry, but felt like I was spoon-fed. In addition, he repeats himself over and over. Liked the books, but the lectures were boring.
You have to read, but the books he picked were interesting. He repeats himself sometimes, but that just pounds the stuff in your head - helps a lot for the essays.
Class is not mandatory but take notes if you do go. 2 easy quizzes (if you decide to show up), 2 4-6pg papers and in-class essay final. I didnt read the books and got good essay grade. Only really need to go to lectures on 3 books, 1 for each paper. Easy class, lectures are alright and this guy loves sports. Know about baseball and he'll love you.

Haeussler was an awesome teacher. He explained thing pretty well and went over it again and again so we get the point. Office hours helps also. Classes were made up of essays and reading little parts of books. Recommended teacher for critical thinking!!
While the class is an easy A, don't expect Haeussler to be lax. He is actually a very brilliant, well organized lecturer who is open to different kinds of analysis, which is surprisingly uncommon in the field of Literature. While the texts are difficult to read, as long as you show up to the lectures and listen, you understand everything perfectly.
Haeussler is really nice and actually quite brilliant. You can tell he has gotten used to working with college students over the years. The grade in this class was based on 5 assignments, 4 essays and a multiple choice quiz. The final is the only in class essay and you get to choose from 3 prompts. HIGHLY recommend.
GREAT GUY. crystal clear on what he expects. books and movies are odd but have real life philosophies. a basic understanding of the key points and plot is all you need for at least a B. go above and beyond for an A like i did which is not that hard just pay attention and do well on the quizzes and essays. You are lazy if you don't get at least a B.
I didn't read a single book and still got an A. Though attendance isn't mandatory, I highly recommend it! He summarizes everything in class and the info is always useful during exams. He's a fairly easy grader, and pretty straightforward. He was a nice guy and thorough in explanation. Occasionally the class gets boring, but it pays off in the end.
Lectures can be boring, his quizzes are pretty easy if you've read. We had 2 quiz and 2 written exams and 1 term paper, also had an extra credit assignment. Pretty laid back class.
Dude repeats himself WAY too much and just spoon-feeds you the information. This makes class incredibly repetitive. On the other hand, what little he has to say is actually fairly interesting and, given the repetition, the essays pretty much write themselves. You don't even have to read or attend class that often.
Overall I really enjoyed this class. Not necessary to get the books cause if you go to the lectures he talks about each book in extreme depth. He really knows his info. Class includes a in class quiz, than a term paper, a midterm which we got to take home as a essay, another quiz which was a take home essay, final essay, and 5% e.c!
Interesting and knowledgeable professor. He grades fairly, so don't expect an A if you're not a good writer. Not too much effort is needed, just attend the lectures.
Very kind person! If you read, you'll be totally fine. Definitely recommend!
HE IS THE NICEST PROFESSOR EVER! He's very helpful. He wants you to pass. He reads the book to you so as long as you take notes, you're good. He even helped me with my sociology papers because it was linked with what he was teaching. He repeats himself so there's no excuse of saying you didn't hear it. Most everything is take home.
Warning: This class is very hard to stay awake in! But overall it's pretty interesting and prof.haeussler is extremely nice and willing to help you further understand the material in detail if neccessary. Taking good notes from lec and reading the books is essential to getting a good grade..fairly easy!
Although it is very hard to stay awake throughout class, he is a very nice professor who is willing to help you as much as he can. He repeats all the main points a lot, so make sure to take good notes. Easy class
Recommend for everyone.
All I can say is that this is one of the best classes, if not the best, that I've had. A little too early for me, but you learn more than you think.
I absolutely love this class. Before I was never much of a reader, but the insight that Haeussler provides in the lectures made me so interested in reading that I can't put the books down! I've managed to stay almost 2 books ahead of the class because I love reading now! So interesting, and he knows exactly what he's talking about.
He has a great sense of humor and is a great speaker. Very clear and super redundant. The class basically consisted of reading a few books, watching a few films, listening to lectures on the material and a couple easy quizzes and exams. One paper that's pretty straightforward. EASIEST CAPSTONE EVER.
He is really helpful and nice. His class is fun. We had 2 quizzes, 2 essays( one is a midterm essay) and a in class essay final. The books we had to read for this class were interesting.
Great at teaching and discussing literature. If you attend the classes you can get away without reading most of the novels (not all of them though). Very engaging and funny. would highly recommend.
Although attendance is not mandatory, coming to class is a must to get a good grade. Lectures are engaging and provide valuable insight to the reading. The books he chooses are great (you will actually WANT to read them). I didn't expect to be so interested even as the semester went on. I recommend this prof regardless of your interest level.
Cool professor. He knows his stuff on the books you read(There's like 10 books). I wish he graded our assignments this semester because his TA was a character.
Class is mandatory for a decent grade. Not very clear on what is expected. If you ask for help, he only restates what he says in class. He talks too much and repeats EVERYTHING. Class was boring and the novels weren't that interesting either. Try taking this class with a different professor.
Not a good teacher. Do not take him. He grades horribly and the books are awful. He lectures the whole time so be prepared to be bored. No visuals at all, just talks at the class the whole time. I truly do not recommend him. If you have him for summer class be prepared to stay THE WHOLE time!
Took his class over the summer, and it was bittersweet. The class was not that great, but boring. His grading on essays was unclear. I gotten one of the worst grades I saw on my paper since freshmen year. Barely anyone gotten A's. Darn, I really regret it as I got my second C of my college career. MY GPA dropped because of this.
No homework, just two essays, and two quizzes. Relatively easy. Make sure to keep up on reading and you should do fine.
Prof. Haeussler is a brilliant man. His class will challenge your mind and make you reflect on your own life. He gives 2 reading quizzes and 3 essays. Your only hw is to keep up with the reading. He gives you the info you need to know to write the essays, so just pay attention and take notes. He is very kind and helpful!
I disagree with his viewpoints but I really grew to like him. He really cares and wants you to succeed. The essays are hard tho and 2 easy quizzes. He's pretty funny so I enjoyed listening. It helped me to record lectures. He loves to talk forever and is pretty smart. He reminds me of George Costanza from Seinfeld lol. Take him. I got an A.
He is really nice and one of my favorite professors. I really enjoy his classes. Unfortunately he doesn't grade your work (if it's a big class) and the T.A. Grades a little hard. I still recommend this class! I wish he taught more classes!
LOVES to hear himself talk and will make a point clear until it hedges on beating a dead horse; unless there's a movie he will talk for 75 minutes straight and very rarely wraps up on time. 2 quizzes that you need to have read for (plot-point quizzes) and 3 medium-length essays. Not a bad class but hopelessly boring unless you care about literature
Professor Haeussler is one of my favorite professors so far. He dives deep into the books you read and provides good analysis. Essays require critical thinking, but they are pretty easy if you take notes in class. The class is a bit on the philosophical side with the books we read, but I really enjoy them. I would definitely take him again.
By far one of the most understanding and supportive professors on campus. Seriously, take his class. 3 essays. 2 reading quizzes. Easy peezy.
Professor Haeussler is an awesome professor. A nice guy and also funny at times. His class is straightforward, 3 essays and 2 quizzes. You read the novels and discuss them in class. Class is not mandatory but if you want to do well you should go. Would easily take his class again.
An amazing class. Material was interesting and thought provoking. He is a no nonsense person and he is very direct. I thank him for being so inspirational.
I found this class boring and tough to stay awake in. Tom has you sit in class endlessly lecturing and going off topic. There are many books to read and to understand what Tom is talking about, you really gotta do some de-coding. The final was a reading quiz and the midterm was an essay. I just found it a was a waste of time.
Haeussler is a great professor. He really goes in depth to explain the reading material during his lectures. 3 essays, 2 quizzes. Attendance isn't mandatory but I highly suggest going to his lectures, because what he discusses in class is usually what the essay topics are about. I hope to take more of his classes!
Tom is an amazing professor! He definitely knows his literature and cares for his students. A lot of readings but they are not necessary if you go to class lectures because novels are discussed thoroughly in class. Only 3 papers which are very easy and you get to choose your own topics based on certain readings. 2 in class quizzes.
He is a tough grader when it comes to his papers and does not give clear directions in what he's looking for, he only restates what he says in class. No extra credit was given in this class. The lecture are long and boring, but it's important if you want to get the right notes for his quizzes and essays. 2 quizzes + 3 essays 100 points
Haeussler is funny, witty, & really knows his stuff. Papers (3) are a bit tough (really have to analyze) but not impossible. 2 Quizzes on readings. Talk to him if you're having trouble. Takes up all lecture time but not boring. PARTICIPATE-he likes to know you get it. Don't just read, but understand the significance as well.
The books were actually quite interesting and Prof. H actually did a great job explaining the text in depth. However the downside about his class is that lecture is boring so I would always fall asleep! I tried so hard to stay awake but it was impossible. His class was nonetheless interesting but hard to stay awake and he is a tough grader!
Only downside is strict attendance policy. Haeussler is a great guy who does a great job at explaining texts. Read the texts and you should be set. Very easy grader!
3 essays, topics are mostly pulled from in class discussion. 2 context based quizzes. Obviously have to read a lot. Haeussler is an amazing professor. His lectures can be long but he has a great sense of humor and explains the very texts well. Often watch movies. Very understanding, kind, overall great teacher. Really cares about students
3 essays, and he gives you a choice between 2-3 novels to write about, 2 reading quizzes. Literally did not read a single novel. All you had to do was go to class and pay attention. He doesn't care if you come in late or leave early as long as you sign into class. Tough grader on essays though.
3 essays and 2 quizzes. You have two options, 1 go to class and pay attention or 2 just read the books and you will pass. I didn't read any books but I payed attention. He summarizes them for you. Essay are easy because they are based off of your interpretations. Quizzes are based of books. Can get pretty boring to listen but, he helps you alot.
A very thought provoking class that gives you a good idea on philosophy and literature. Go to class and listen could really let you think differently
Professor Haeussler understands what you are going through in college. He has a few essays but explains and gives you as much information. He is very kind and demonstrates his care for the class. He gives out quizzes that he fairly makes them easy. The books he chooses are all somewhat related and makes them very interesting.
Haeussler is like a sweet grandpa. He very wise and educated professor who suitable for literature course. I would definitely take him again for literature course. For this class only 4 essays(2 short and 2 long) and 2 quizzes which serve as reward for kids who read the books and go to his lectures).
He spends most of class time analyzing and discussing the book, so if you show up to class you basically don't need to read the book. Grades leniently on papers as long as you're good at analysis. Doesn't really have class participation as he just lecture for most of the class.
Very cool guy. I hardly showed up to class due to some unforeseen circumstances and he was very understanding and didn't hold it against me. Easy quizzes if you read and the papers are very straightforward as well. Make sure you do the word count! I was about ten words shy of a 1000 word essay and he took points off.
He takes attendance every class but people show up late because he allows you to sign the roll sheet at the end. If you think this course is going to be funny you are in for disappointment. Most readings are satire from hundreds of years ago. Overall not a difficult class but crazy boring and redundant. If you can take a more interesting capstone.
He is a kind and understanding man right to point :) just do your work you will pass lecture heavy but its good for you to listen to others
He gives very little work, and I fell asleep through most of my lectures to be honest. When he gives work you should do well though because there aren't many assignments. You can either read the books or listen to his lectures. If you do one, you should get a good grade. He's a really laid back relaxed teacher that understands your struggles.
His classes are very lecture heavy, but he did show us a few movies that go along with the books. 2 essays, 2 multiple choice quizzes, and 2 analyses that are all pretty simple, and you can choose from different prompts to write on. You are only allowed to miss 3 classes but it's not a big deal if you do. He's a pretty good teacher, would reccomend
Lets you sign in the roll sheet at the end of class so you can show up late and still get to sign in. Whole class he discusses the story/book. Make sure to know what is going on in book to pass the quizzes. 2 analysis essays (400-500 words) 2 critical essays (1200 words) and 2 quizzes . Essays are due online. Gives you a week to do them.
The readings he assigns is something you need to get before the semester begins. He goes in depth for each reading you will do for his class. 2 textual analysis and 2 essays with variable word count for each respectively. However, due to the current situation in the world, the class was transitioned online. Regardless take this class.
The class consists of 2 short analyses, 2 long critical essays, and a midterm and final (reading quizzes). He is very considerate and humorous at times. Although the class is lecture heavy, what he discusses helps with the prompts/papers assigned, so listen and take notes. He won't ever put you on the spot about it but try to keep up with readings.
Prof Haeussler is the best professor I've had so far and I am not even an English major. This man has a great sense of humor and is very kind and respectful of students. 2 easy reading quizzes, two 1-page analyses, and 2 essays of which one is the final. If you have basic comprehension and the desire to try, you can get an A. Read the books though
This professor might be great in normal circumstances, but with COVID, he has adapted *VERY* poorly. All he does, every single lecture, is ramble. There's NO structure or any slides to help us grasp what he's trying to teach, so we're forced to just sit and stare at him while he rambles on and on and on... Just take another professor.
Prof. Haeussler is very nice and funny, but as others stated he has done horribly in adapting to online teaching. His lectures are pure rambling with nothing valuable you can use for papers or exams. He often kept us over class time. Grading was lenient but he had TAs grade so I really don't know what he did ... don't recommend for online.
This class is way easier than AP english in high school. Prof H gives us so much time to write essays & analysis. We had two easy T/F quizzes based on the books we read. Prof H goes into detail on the assigned reading during class. Tip: Take detailed notes as you read, and study them b4 the T/F quizzes. He will help you improve ur essays! Easy A.
His lectures give you analysis for the two essays. If you show up to office hours he'll help you out a lot and tell you how to boost your grade. Two quizzes EASY it's plot questions! Then you have two small analyses that you can use in your essay. Essay prompts have like 3 options so if you don't get one book you can write it on another! Loved him!
Very knowledgeable, has insights that most would often overlook. Communicates clearly. Really gives his best during an especially difficult time.
He's alright. There's only 2 textual analysis and 2 essays you'd have to do which is only 4 assignments that determines your grade, following with also 2 T/F quizzes that are pretty easy. I'm currently have his 8 am class and it is really hard to pay attention, like I'd really wanna fall asleep. Overall, the class is manageable, just depends on you
He's nice, his lectures show that he is very knowledgeable about the book, but its easy to lose focus as he talks about the book the whole time every class day. Take notes its easier to write the papers he assigns, I never finished an entire book from the 8 required. 2 textual analyses (450 each), 2 essays (1200 each), and 2 easy plot quizzes.
Really caring professor who really looks out for his students. I received an A based off solely taking thorough notes from his lectures; quizzes are super easy- just plot-based questions catered to a grade-school level. Has a good sense of humor and doesn't take things too overly seriously. You are given tons of time for essays w/feeback beforehand
claims at the beginning of the semester he isn't like the tough grading teachers and his class is super easy. while we don't have a lot of assignments. you have to treat this as an English class or you get docked for run-on sentences. came into it thinking id be able to laugh, instead, I want to sleep. way too many readings 7-8. likes to talk......
There are 4 papers and 2 reading quizzes due and that's it, the reading quizzes are very easy and require nothing more than attending the class, but that is it you must attend the class or read the book on your own, one gives attendance credit the other does not but they both accomplish the same thing, if attendance was not a thing I would not go.
The class consists of 2 analyses, 2 critical essays, and 2 T/F plot reading quizzes. He summarizes and analyzes the readings for you, so it's best if you take notes. He's very helpful and kind, especially during office hours. Come to OF and he'll help you with your essay. Email him a sample (1 page) of your essay and he'll provide great feedback.
Fun! We read 4 books and had 2 short analyses papers (~1.5 pages each), 2 critical essays (~5 pages) & 2 reading comprehension quizzes that were multiple choice. Sometimes his feedback is all great but won't tell you why he deducted points. Course felt pretty easy and insightful. Take him in summer or winter to get your req over with quickly.
prof, H is awesome. I took this for as a GE and was so happy I did. He is very lenient, easy going and HELPFUL. However, since this is a literature class don't think you will have it all the way easy. You absolutely need to read the book to do the assignments. However if you do so its fairly easy. loved this class. amazing professor.
he's awesome. and very thoughtful. 2 essays, 2 analysis. 2 quizzes. u do have to READ since the assignments are based on the book. but they are fairly easy. the only con is that he spends the entire class talking. Take him if you can you won't regret it. wish there were more professors like him.
if you're looking for an easy C2 GE class. i made the poor choice to take an 8am but he is forgiving and caring. if you take his 8am, he doesn't mark tardys at all! you only have to get 5 different books to read but u can find them easily online for free and goes over notes too
He's chill. Very flexible with late assignments and was funny. He just talked a lot. I'd take him again.
His lectures can be dense and long, but he makes up for it in the easy nature of his grading. There are a couple reading quizzes (10 MCQs online), a couple essays, and a couple short "essays" (2 paragraphs w/ no intro or conclusion). Reading quizzes are curved, the essays are fairly easy to get done, and the short essays took me about an hour.
I'm sure he's a great guy, he can be pretty humorous, but personally the class seemed boring as it was just him talking about the 6 books we have, or something outside of the books. Felt like he went on tons of tangents. 2 text analysis, 2 essays, 2 easy quizzes. The work is very simple and easy even though. Not a lot of effort can be put.
He filled in as professor for our section seemingly last-minute, so I didn't think it was as fair to give a 3, because I did somewhat enjoy the course. You'll need to obtain and read through 7 different works and then write 2 textual analysis essays and 2 longer critical essays. There was also 2 quizzes and an extra credit assignment.
Lenient is the first word that comes to mind in describing Professor Haeussler. He grades pretty slowly, though is very forgiving. This class was not for me; it often felt more like a Philosophy 101 class than a literature class. Still, it is very possible to do well in this class if you do readings, pay attention somewhat, and are a decent writer.
If you are thinking about taking Imagination at play, then I would definitely recommend Haeussler's class. He is a kind and down to earth professor who gives great lectures. You read multiple books throughout the semester, discuss in class, and complete a few writing assignments. Not much more to it than that. A very easy course with minimal work.
Had 2 big essays that were 5 pages each and 2 small essays were about 2 pages. Only 2 quizzes. Very lenient with the deadlines and was a very nice person. Lectures consisted of him talking about the readings, takes attendance.
