Great at explaining things. Also very helpful, and makes class interesting.

He was totally enthusiastic about the subject, International Political Poetry. So enthusiastic, in fact, that he tried to do a bit much in the class. What I got the most out of was the terrific required poetry reading. Lots of reading, but easy grader.
Horible Teacher! I had a B average and he gave me a no pass, go figure!
LOVED this prof. Fun and fascinating class.
Very good teacher. Huminiski is eager to help whenever you give him the chance. Explains papers well. Just make sure that you show up for class- a lot of his grading is based on attendance. Recommend this teacher- a good choice for writing classes.
Mr. Huminski was an ok teacher. But his opinions, comments and personality were sometimes uncomforting. His grading style is also a little bit hard to follow, so you sometimes can't tell where you stand in his class.
Friendly guy, w/ helpful brainstorming conferences when you can't pick a topic, and is a decent grader if you show up to class and do the work. However, he can be confusing about assignments. The subject matter is boring *it is an analytical writing class* and the first two assingments are absolutely uninspired, but once past them, it is fine.
Very nice man, really wants his students to learn! I don't think that this subject is his favorite, he seemed a little uninspired...but overall pretty helpful when you needed to conference and focus topic.
I liked this class alot because he pushed his students to better ourselves. If you do your work as assigned, show up to class and really give effort, you will get a good grade. He is always willing to help you if you ask.
Had fun the first term but for the 205 class things got pretty boring. He's really into literature but his style just didn't suit me. He let's students for the most part do the talking and he just kind of sits there listening then comments a little. Good teacher but I need someone more dynamic.
great teacher he's cool and the subject matter was good
He is a very frustrating teacher. All of his assignments are based on food issues, which can be very boring to someone who isnt as passionate about this issue. The majority of the class hates his assignments and want better topics for his papers. Very bland teaching style. Not recommended.
Nice guy but a tad boring at times. Lots of group discussion which bugged the heck out of me because of the know it all's. They tended to confuse me. Not a lot of assignments and not a lot of grades. Some of it was boring, some interesting. If you love literature, take the class. If you only need the credit, it's a toss up.
Very friendly, enthusiastic, and helpful. My only problem is that the class is based on group discussion and he allows the same pretentious jerks to monopolize the discussion every time. He's surprisingly tough on grading papers, much harder than you'd think. I like that though, it made me try harder.
I just don't like his teaching.
He assumes everyone knows what he is talking about and chooses not to go over in detail what exactly he is looking for. Over and over we heard the term narrow it down. He wasn't helpful when rewriting papers, he say one thing and then the next visit something else. Unless you're hardcore about politics, then I suggest not to take him.
class isn't always easy, but he will always be fair with you if you've put in the effort.
This writing teacher was the most approachable and understanding despite the impossible high standards that all writing teachers have. He's a complete stickler on being on time (so if you are late more than once he will say something) but he will go the extra mile if the student does the same thing.
If you enjoy working in groups EVERY SINGLE CLASS instead of actually learning something, a professor with an inability to understand what you mean no matter how crystal clear you make it and "learning" at the pace of a slug, Huminski is for you.
I like Tom, but he is very safe. He never lets discussions get "out of hand", meaning they never become interactive or particuarly interesting, but are okay. The class is easy enough, but he has done only an okay job of helping to interpret the text. I keep waiting for this course to pick up- please break out of your shell Mr. Huminski!
Great teacher! If you put in the effort, he will do his part to advance your writing skills and take you to the next level.
Complete waste of time and money. He offers nothing concerning the text that you didn't gather by just reading it. I learned more reading sparknote commentary. Mostly had us do boring small group discussions. I lost interest in this class and got my first "non-A" in 4 terms. If you enjoy literature, stay away. Thanks for nothing Tom!
Two years later, he's still my favorite professor. Even during finals week, he has time to just sit back and talk, even if it's not about the final, or even if you're in his class. Excessively easy to understand, and delightfully engaging. (I took ENG 204-206 with him.)
such a hater. dont take his classes.
The classes were boring and seemed longer than two hours. Isn't understanding that sometimes things happen. Like car accidents.
Political nut who lacks personality, practices favoritism, and discourages opinion.

The previous comments are bunk. Tom is not an egotist/politicrit at all, hes actually one of the most open minded, honest profs I've had. My writing improved leaps and bounds in his class. He really knows how to bring out the best in you. Hes passionate about what he does and it shows. He's not an easy professor, but you will learn SO MUCH.
Only the politically apathetic would perceive Tom's euthusiasm about domestic and international issues as being fanaticism. Tom is fair with grading, accessible when students need help with course material, and makes an effort to make classes interesting. Participate, give others a chance to voice their views, and do your assignments. It's simple.
I had him for both English 204 and 205. He is not an egotistical individual but will reject your ideas and method of writing even though they are correct for his classes. If you write a paper and know how to read between the lines when reading a poem, then he'll still grade you down despite your previous training. One's views must match his own.
Knowledgeable and engaging, Huminski is a good instructor. Class will mostly consist of him opening with a introductory/housekeeping monologue about assignments due and upcoming works, maybe some background or light analysis of what we're studying, followed by an hour and a half of group discussion. Format great, wished he lectured bit more though.
OMG i hate going to this class.its the rock in my shoe every monday wed. he is obsessed with his freakin card deck. put down the cards tom and let us make out own groups. i promis discussions would go SOO much better if you did. this class has killed my love of writing....EAT MY LEEKS!!!
NO. NO NO NO NO. Don't take Huminski. NO. His class just wasn't for me. The same people talk everyday and hes a very hard grader. Hes a little radical in his views, and arrogant too. I want to burn his cards. NO.
he worked well with me but people around me kept saying "this guy sucks, ill never take him again". i didn't have any of the saem experiences,i guess he is for some people and not others. take him yourself and see.
Tom makes the effort to meet with every student one on one at least twice a term to make sure we're on the right track with our papers. He's easy to understand and I learned a lot from his class. However he does put up with a lot of crap from idiots talking/goofing off while he is talking.
Despite his letting idiots goof off and talk while he's talking, I thought Tom was an excellent teacher. My writing improved a lot. He was clear and to the point. His expectations on assignments was clear. I don't know what these other people are talking about. If you showed up, tried your best, and listened you'd got a good grade.
I love this guy! He's a pretty easy grader, his lectures are as interesting as possible for technical writing which is a snoozefest, and he's hot. He allows one re-do of a paper if you didn't do as well as you wanted to, and his quizzes are nothing to be afraid of.
He was so helpful. He really cared about you getting a good grade and would work with you until you felt comfortable in your ability. He gave an assignment sheet for every paper so you knew exactly what was expected of you and if you followed it you could pretty much expect an A. I would definitely recommend him to anyone! He's awesome!
I loved having Tom as my teacher. He is very engaging and is willing to help you out. Easy assignments but a lot of reading. Great class
Excellent teacher! He made what could have been a super boring class enjoyable. Each assignment came with clear, concise instructions so you knew exactly what was expected.
Very engaging and fun. Literature is something to be digested and discussed, not forcefed like I think some of the raters here are used to. If you don't like group discussions don't take his class, as you will do them a lot. Getting an A is easy, just do your readings and write your papers. He asks that you engage your brain.
This guy is awesome! He made World Chinese Lit very interesting! We went on a field trip, he brought in a caligrapher, and the texts that he uses are awesome! The midterm and final are very easy. If you come to class everyday and you do bad on the tests then may god have mercy on your soul lol. Tom makes class enjoyable and will captivate you!
A VERY nice, helpful, and clear instructor. Instructions for assignments are clear and he goes out of his way to outline the schedule. My only complaint would be that he structured the class around what seems to be a personal passion of his, but I would certainly recommend him.
I have had Tom for a writing and english class while at PCC. He is an amazing, smart instructor and obviously enjoys students and teaching!
Extremely helpful when it comes to writing. I saw vast improvements in my writing just because of how he explained things. A very good teacher!
I thought that he was very helpful. He took the time to clarify what I needed help with. IF YOU DON'T TALK TO HIM he doesn't know that you may need help.
Go to class. Participate in discussions. Do the homework. Get an A. Huminski is a good lecturer, leads interesting discussions, has reasonable expectations, and is pleasantly engaging.
I hate one kind of professor who only giving good grade to some students he likes.
Very harsh, with high expectations teacher.Honestly! Most people felt that way in the class and i mean the one that were focused on the material, not those that were goofing around. He is very picky. If you don't feel strong about your english skills you will be strugling. I can't promise that he is helpful even that he is trying to navigate you.
If you're not the student who he likes in the class, you won't get a good grade in his class. He might be helpful for some students that who already love writing a lot, but he isn't helpful for some students who are wanting to learn about writing.
I love tom's class. He is fun, understandable, reasonable, and spends time with every student individually to help them be on the right track. I learned a lot from his class. If your looking for an easy teacher don't take his class but know that he will help you a lot and you will come out of his class knowledgeable
Really laid back, friendly teacher. He's very personable and grades quite fairly.
Technical Writing was a great class in learning how to write more concisely, using less flowery language. There were two big writing projects: one research-based with an assigned topic, and one sans research that was graded on conciseness and organization. The only annoying part of the class was listening to CS majors try to outnerd one another.
Appears easy going but is actually isn't. READ course syllabus and assignments CAREFULLY! Do not go by what he says the requirements are in class, follow written requirements! Note: he doesn't tell you what to get an A - gives you minimums. Learned a lot in the class. This is not a business communication class - this is Tech Report Writing.
Amazing teacher.
He is VERY confusing and cannot answer questions most of the time. I do not recommend taking his WR 227 class EVER. Just save yourself the stress and don't ever take this teacher. EVER
He was not perfect at giving clear instructions in his assignments, but he often tries to repeat it in several different ways for everyone to understand. He provides very good feedbacks on your rough draft essays IF you speak with him and ask for help one-on-one. He grades based on improvements from the first assignment to the very last assignment.
I loved this class. I've always been obsessed with shakespeare but he showed me different ways to interpret the words. He never claimed to be an expert and was willing to accept someone else's idea. It didn't hurt that he had a wonderfully deep voice and when he read out loud it sounded amazing.
Great class! Awesome guy. He is professional, but cool. Great course content- its nice to be concise in writing for once. Assignments are fun. He has a really cool collection of playing cards that he uses to pair students into groups. Always a different deck. For some reason I enjoy his outfit selection as well. You won't regret this class!
Totally unforgiving if you miss any class time at all, once you fall behind you are left behind. Being in class feels like being a little kid again, grouping up, peer edits, and class participation. Feels more like the 5th grade rather than a college course. Do not take a class from him
Tom is a great guy with a very laid back personality. He tells his class what he wants for each stage of projects. Each project gets peer reviewed in class and this is when the final "grading criteria" is provided to the class for the final drafts. He looks for improvement from rough to final drafts as a sign of your improvements.
I've taken 3 classes from him and have been fully engaged every time. Fantastic lectures and extremely knowledgeable. If you communicate about an absense he'll make sure you have the work you need to catch up. If you try hard, he'll recognize it. Don't have fear, he's phenomenal.
This was a great teacher for me. I learned a lot, and had several absences - the fact that I e-mailed him ASAP helped a lot, I think. He's approachable, and the conferences are hugely beneficial. He's a tougher grader than I thought he'd be, but definitely not impossible to pass. The textbook is also surprisingly good.
He has a very monotone voice that will put you to sleep. I dreaded going to this class even though I had it every other day.
Tom is an awesome teacher! He is extremely helpful during the process of writing papers, and every paper you write during the term all connects to help you for the final paper. His class just makes sense.
Tom is a great professor for WR227. He keeps his lectures consistent and goes over material as many times needed to make sure everyone understands. There is a big project due at the end of the term that isn't very difficult and he guides you and prepares you for it.
I would take his class again. He is an amazing professor. Very detailed on everything. Highly recommended.
I love almost all ENG professors, but Tom's one of my favorites I've had by far. His classes are always fun and interesting, and he's also really helpful when it comes to feedback.
Tom is great. His criteria and grading are clear, and his comments when returning drafts are very helpful for revising. He's easily accessible outside of class, whether it's to plan a meeting or just an email- quick and meaningful responses. If I could take all my writing classes with Tom, I would!
AMAZING INSTRUCTOR who is willing to connect with you and work with you if you are having trouble. I have taken him 4 times, and each time ended up wit an A. He is phenomenal, and loves what he teaches. He is progressive, open minded and is willing to guide you in your career path. Don't be afraid to take him. EASY and FUN. A+++!!!!
Grades way to harshly. Would never take one of his classes again. Not a good teacher and likes to go off topic a lot. The book you read is unbearable and not fun to read at all. Almost all the papers you write are based around the book. Didn't teach anything I didn't already know.
Great teacher, although he talks really slowly. Hard grader but there are few assignments. You work in small groups pretty much everyday.
Half of our grade was this ridiculous assignment on us writing a how to guide on how to write a specific document of our profession. This would be easy only 80% of the class was science majors
I loved Huminski's class! It was pretty easy for me but I had already taken an AP class in high school that was the same level so that might be why. Only three essays, few discussions, and one peer review. He gives really good feedback and his expectations are very clear. He also has the option to review your essays with him over zoom if you want.
Tom is one of my favorite professors . He is always there to help , and wants you to do your best !I would 100% take his class again,I learned a lot .
Tom is a really nice guy and definitely knows what he's talking about when it comes to writing. He gives good feedback on papers, and also knows that real-world problems exist outside of school and is very understanding. My only issue with him was his grading criteria. He uses a non-traditional approach which makes grades confusing.
I like professor huminski. Hes a great teacher, and he does his best to help explain things in a way you understand. His grading method was confusing and I had no way to really know what my grade was until class ended. Other than that though hes a good teacher and the class wasnt terribly difficult. I felt like I learned a lot.
Tom Huminski is a great teacher! Although it may take a while for new students to get used to his way of teaching, or it may seem complicated for them, after a while, you will realize how professional and standardized he teaches! I felt significant progress in my writing skill when I took this class! I had two terms with him, and I got professional
Actually took ENG201 but not an option. This was one of the best online classes I've taken. I felt like I got to know fellow students. The teacher was very responsive and kind. Reading Shakespeare is hard but I feel more confident after taking this class. Only assignments were discussion posts on 4 plays, analysis papers on 4 plays, and a sonnet.
He was a good teacher overall I had to take his online course and all the feedback he gave was really helpful when writing my essays. I feel like I have improved in my educational writing by taking his course. As long as you read directions carefully and turn in your work on time I think it is going to be smooth sailing from there.
He is super awesome!
The instructor needs to find another job
