Good sense of humor. He doesn't like you slacking off, but really, if you don't make an effort in cardio class why take it in the first place?
Great teacher. But not easy to jot notes though........
Good teacher overall. Just be on time and take notes. The tests are fairly easy.

bad teacher, surprised hes not fired by now.

kinda crabby, get a scene of humor
I thought he was really nice. The class itself was really easy. Just make it look like you're working the whole time and you can still chit chat.
this guy is weird, not helpful

Kind of a mean person. Doesn't really seem to care much for his students.
I took him for advanced jogging too because I liked the class so much. I thought he was very friendly and nice, I dont know why other students experienced something so different. From what I saw he was very nice to the people that put effort into the class and tried their best. I would recommend this class if you like jogging and having an easy 4.0
I'm shocked to see such a bad rating, from what I saw he just didnt like slackers. Maybe those people didnt do anything in class. He didnt like make you work that hard either, he just wanted you participating. It was ok to chit chat

if you like to jog, take this class. you can walk if you want, but if you're gonna do that.. uhh take walking? anyway jackson is nicer than you people say, i thought he was cool. easy 4.0 if you can score over 80% on the tests--which is not difficult at all. easy class, lots of fun running on the trails especially if it rains!
I got bad GPA from his class 2 times. I don't like him at all!!!!!!
Not a class for slackers. He expects you to run every day no matter what. Easy grader on the essays though.
Overall very easy class. He's a nice guy as long as you stay on task and aren't gone more than 2 days. As long as you talk to him, he will like you. I hate PE but he liked me. If you need a PE credit, I would suggest this class.
Come to class, be serious about the workouts and there are no problems. He lets you know exactly what he expects and what will be on the quizzes. It's up to you to follow through.
You pretty much need to go to class, or you'll fail. You'll run your butt off too. However, he's clear from the beginning that running is exactly what is expected of you, and exactly what you'll do.
He was a pretty cool teacher. His class is easy as long as you show up in class everyday. You can even get an A in that class if you only got 85% on your quizzes and go to class all the time.
I took his First Aid/CPR class, and I thought he did a good job. The class is very interactive with the other students, which made it a little uncomfortable- but how else can you learn CPR/First Aid without practice? As long as you show up to class & on time, and read the text- you will do good:) Don't slack off- it won't go over well:)
Extremely intelligent teacher. He's accessible, he communicates well, and has a genuine interest in the class. Would take again.
Tom Jackson does not respond to emails, voicemails or questions. You are taking a course with no feedback and virtually no assistance. He is not prepared to teach an online course at this time.
Meh, he was ok. I sometimes feel as though he looked down on me. He didn't seem to pick favorites, though, so that was nice.
no me gusta
He's a pretty laid back teacher for cardio conditioning. Just show up to class and workout and you're good to go.
I loved this guy. I was in his weight training class and he is such a hoot. If you get to class daily and work out, youll be fine. The tests are every other friday and as long as you study, you'd get an A. Its a great class!
this guy is a hard ass and very strict on attendance.the test is hard becuz he dont put material the he assign to study. bad PE! do take this class Oh!did I forget too say BAD teacher? BAd bad bad! teacher
Took Jackson for HL Ed 190 (First Aid and CPR) Awesome teacher! He's really funny and I got a great grade in the class. Just show up, take notes and read the chapters and you're golden. No homework besides reading.
I completely agree with the poster about him not responding to email, correspondence, calls, etc. He might be "a hoot" but I'd never know since I never heard back from him. It's just a PE class, but common decency is to respond to emails, phone calls, etc. Not impressed with this guy at all.
Anyone who takes 6 months to get you an override code isn't worth your time or your cash.
I never had a problem with Mr Jackson responding to my phone calls or questions. 3 tests to take. Hard tests especially if you dont read the chapter. He's fine if you run which is what you signed up for, right? :)He just doesnt want you slacking off walking around to your car and such. READ THE BOOK if you expect to pass!!!
if you show up at class and read the book you will get an awesome grade. He gives off the appearance of being tough and mean at first but hes just joking around, superrr funny and nice.
pretty good teacher, tests were alright. just read the book, you'll do ok. know the correct steps(in order) and you're good. got a 3.5
I took PE 103 online which only requires a pre and post assessment for body fat and ability. Only 4 tests the entire quarter, but you have to log your weekly workouts and turn them in at the very end. Extremely easy class except tests are kind of lame, with not enough time allotted.
WARNING: "THERE'S NO CELLPHONE IN THIS CLASS" OR ELSE...
He's a fairly straightforward teacher and if you follow his syllabus, you should have little trouble. Read the assigned chapter, participate in the class discussion, demonstrate the skills learned, do the tests (mostly Scantron with some write-in).
Fair, clear, easy. Good teacher.
The main thing that will bring your grade down are the written tests. You can be the best runner in the world, show up on time everyday and still get a poor grade because of the tests. To get a 4.0 you must get at least an 85% average on all tests. Plus the only possible grades are 0, 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, or 4.0, nothing in between. Not a fair assessment
I had him for cpr and he's very tough to figure out. He could be funny and joking one minute and serious and mad the next. But overall, hes chill and easy class as long as you read your book and take notes. Study more from your book notes than your class notes. If you do that, its an easy A.
People hate on Jackson but hes such a cool teacher! In his jogging class, he expects you to jog which is perfectly understandable. He is very knowledgeable and his lectures are going to stick with me for a very long time. great teacher!
He harps on kids as if giving a militant structure. It can make anyone not being yelled at feel uneasy. He expects you to listen and follow the rules and if you don't the whole world will know. Find a common ground with him and do the work expected and you will do just fine.
Easy class, just show up dressed down and work out, and the tests are cake. Pretty cool guy although somewhat strict, only thing I didn't like is he would make me take off my hood all the time, what is this high school?
If you learn orally you will do ok in this class. If you learn visually-good luck-not one note or procedure ever written down. I fall into the latter catagory so it was hard to remember information before I had a chance to write it down.
Very insightful class with a lot to walk away with. The instructor takes the subject seriously, and this is reflected in the quality of teaching. If you read the book and come to class (without pulling out your cellphone), you'll be in good shape. I feel confident in demonstrating the skills I learned in case of a life-threatening scenario.
Show up on time. Do not pull out your cell phone. Read the textbook and take notes from his lectures. You will be fine. Very passionate, very nice guy if you do everything you are supposed to. He also has some really cool stories.
Really strict. Expects you to show up every single time, if late he doesn't take your excuses even if they are valid. Lectures go off topic often. Has issues with cellphones, BIG ISSUES. Has anger issues. Made me not look forward to going to gym anymore :/
Come up to class every single time and you will be fine. Be ready for the three quizzes , especially the first one since , this quarter , covered 2 chapters(sth like 70 pages to read). Do not come late (no more than 5 min).No accept excuses and will send you home , also follow the rules .
Mr. Jackson is one of my favorite teachers! You will do fine if you do everything that is expected of you. Make sure you actually read the book, that is what the tests are based on.
I don't recommend taking this class personally. Tests are 35 Q with 25 mins. Majority of grade is based of tests. Doesn't respond to messages or emails. Grades on a 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0 scale, nothing in between. Gave me a zero on 1 assignment that I did exactly as required, emailed him many times and he never responded. Not the best teacher.
I don't understand why the school actually hired this obtuse individual, He's obviously very cunning to implement 3 tests in which he scores based on the final grade, interesting Tom, you happen grade solely on the tests and give no credit for physical activity that students participate in, take it from me don't waste your time in this class
This a class that you have to study very hard for the test part of the class. But his test was really hard and though I study the things he wanted me to read in the book and what he went over in class, he always threw curve balls of subjects in the test that was never explain in neither subject matter. Also he big on attendance so show up ready.
Grading is not clear. Sets logs as 0 points then you get 1 point and then all the sudden you have 150% in the class. I don't receive e-mails back from him and when I do they do not answer the questions I needed to know. Don't take his 3 credit class online. It's not worth it just stay and work from home.
Mr. Jackson takes this topic very seriously and it shows in his lectures. The class is anything but an "easy A," but if you put the work in and treat it like any other class, you should be fine. The guy also has lots of cool stories.
Grading isn't clear, tests are almost straight from the book.
Took subject very important (saving a life is). Pay attention and don't goof of and you'll be fine
Took PE 103 (online) from him. He didn't give his contact information until halfway through the fourth week (it was not on his syllabus). The few emails that I sent to him were either never replied to, or replied to after lengthy periods (7+ days). Many of the questions used for the chapter tests were logically flawed and rife with misspellings.
This class was my only option. FIND ANOTHER OPTION. I work hard and get good grades but the book is so vague in contrast to his black and white answers on the tests. Unnecessarily hard. I passed my anatomy classes with a 3.8 just fine and I couldn't pass this class. Never answers questions.
Some people say he is tough. However, this teacher is not for people who do not study the subject properly and expect PE to be easy. I got a 4.0 in his class and all i did was reading the book carefully.
I have seen a lot and this teacher is not a good teacher, and not a good person in general. plz, take my word, or your going to have a bad quarter. nothing more to say, hes just really bad at what he does and has no respect for students.
Signed up for this class for PE, not to read the book. I had more important classes to focus on and his lectures hardly cover anything that is on the test. Read the book if you take this class.
Half of the things he taught us in the lecture room weren't even on the tests. Don't take his class. You'll regret it
Be prepared to take this class more than once if you are not ready to digest the book and take notes and ask questions - he won't volunteer information. This instructor is not helpful at all. Need to know your grade? Just ask yourself, because he won't tell you.
Worst Teacher Ever!!!!!! he was never clear on what was going to be on the test. Loves to go off Topic and his lectures very unnecessary. The test are hard and I would study so much for his class and still get around a 70% for each test. AVOID IF POSSIBLE
Took his online class. Had to go in for a fitness assessment at the beginning and end of the quarter. He was very nice to me both times, was conversational and friendly, and made sure I was clear on instructions for the course. Tests were multiple choice and easy if you read the book.
Jackson is a very bad PE teacher would not recommend!! Take any other PE class but his!! There are 4 tests throughout the quarter and you need to get an average of 85% for a 4.0 . This may seem good but don't be fooled it is hard to even get above an 80% on each test. His lectures are mainly off topic. Textbook is needed. You can only miss 3 days.
He is one of the worst professor ever. Class is so hard and only test scores are going to determine your total grade. Np extra credit, and never reply students email. try to avoid this one if you are looking for a short cut and wanna keep your grade.
Mr. Jackson is a really good teacher. He was always willing to help out in any way like if I was doing an exercise wrong or if I had a specific question on what to do if I wanted to work out a targeted area. He may come off as rude at times but that's his sense of humor. Tests aren't hard as long as you study the book and take notes during lectures
He does have the old school method of teaching, so do not be tardy. Even 5 minutes late it isn't good news. But Mr. Jackson could've been one of my favorite teachers because not only did i learn about first aid and CPR but he made this topic interesting by telling the class about his personal stories and i found that really cool.
Come on time dressed to workout, no tank tops, very little to no help from the prof, the first test is based on book only, not his very poor lectures. Read carefully between the lines, test barely asks for any useful definitions. Test is not fair. Questions are not based on what you think you need to remember and apply in your own weigh-training.
I had Jackson for HLED 190 and all I can say is good luck. He will get angry at you if you don't pay attention during lecture, look at him wrong or come in late and will argue with you if you ask him questions. He is also unclear about test dates and information. For my class the tests were relatively easy but his PE classes are astronomically hard
Jackson is old school, which is a good thing. I will agree he should return emails, not his strong suit as I can see. Also doesn't seem to have any makeup or unexcused absence policy, which does suck. That being said, I went to class, read the damn book, and worked hard in the weight room, and voila!!! I got a 4.0. I like his no nonsense approach.
Jackson is great. He is actually a very nice person, but he is strict. His lectures are interesting. As long as you work hard you will be able to do well.
Great teacher! I received a 4.0, he tells us specifically what will be on the quizzes.
This guy treated me like a child. I'm 25 and a college sophomore, have had more than 5 jobs in my life, with few bosses as unreasonable as him. I've made a really tough effort to do well in this class and no encouragement from him, just a bunch of bullying and harassment. Currently dropping out(at the end of quarter!) Wish I could use profanity.
Worst professor in my whole life. If I do my best preparing his test, I could not get good score. In his lecture, he never use white board. He just said something by reading textbook though his test is based on his useless lecture.
BE SURE TO READ THE TEXTBOOK OR ELSE YOU FAIL
I do not agree with Mr. Jacksons grading and test policy. He is a great person but he is far too impractical. I was in his PE 101 class, it was a three day a week course at 7am with three tests. I showed up to class every day, but am not a good test taker esp with not enough lecture. I failed the class because I got below 60% on the the tests. V
The tests don't relate to the book and you're not given enough time to complete them. He seriously messed up my grade. There are no "in-between" GPAs - it's basically 4, 3, 2, 1, 0. He doesn't respond quickly and has bad communication skills. Avoid this online PE course at all costs. You'd think it'd be easy, but no. Run far away little bunnies.
Hardest PE class I've ever taken, hated the class so much, we had to READ A BOOK FOR PE. Would not recommend the class to a friend.
The worst professor i've had at green river so far. He tests out of the book instead of his own lectures so even if you show up to the lecture you won't learn anything useful. The tests were super difficult and you pretty much had to memorize the book to pass them.
I cried over this class several times throughout the quarter. At the beginning of the quarter after a long chain of emails he refused to clearly lay out how i would be graded. He simply said that if he thought i was cheating he would lower my score. It was an online class and he would take weeks to reply to emails. Worst. Class. Ever.
Jackson is quite frankly archaic in his teaching methods while demands respect. He spends too much time complaining and getting personal. Lectures are too long and easily get off topic which overall makes it difficult to get work done. Jackson is irritated with debate; as his arrogance makes it difficult to learn any factual truth about fitness.
I am warning you!! Do not take his class for God's sake!! I had to take noncredit for his class because I do not want PE class to affect my GPA. I studied in the book, took note and listen to his long and nonrelative lecture. But I could not pass either. If you want to have a good GPA, Do not take his class!!
Just dont take his class if you want to have easy pe class.
Most people I find don't like this prof because they are lazy. This guy seriously expects you to work. If you don't study you will fail. Don't miss any days. He can be irritating and hard to communicate with, but if you push for it you can get answers and help and be successful in this class.
In lectures, on major topics he says certain information, while the book states different info. In class, a student told him this and his response was he "knows what the textbook says, I'm giving the real answers". On exams, they are more in depth than my intro biology and chemistry courses... Whatever you do avoid taking this class.
I had never taken a 3 credit class with so much reading. I highly recommend this class to those who does not want ANY physical work! Also, 25 min test for 35 questions? That seems a bit above average for a PE class. Mr. Jackson can be nice, but he really needs to focus more on availability and communication with his students and what they need.
Instructors like this completely undermine the goal of learning in the education system. Most of the work in course involves putting in 40 workout session but you aren't graded on these. The book is the only learning tool and most of your grade comes down to how well you do on a few timed quizzes. Other minor assignments are worth only 1 point.
Jackson has been one of the most difficult professors I've ever taken, and in the worst possible way. I'd easily have a 4.0 in this class if he tested on his own life, he never gives a straight answer on how we'll be graded, when we will be graded, and how we are doing in the class. He should be a high school teacher, not a college professor.
How the actual class experience is fine. You aren't pressured really to work out hard in class. If you do slack off, he won't take points away because really your grade hinges on those tests. DO READ THE BOOK because the multiple choice tests do take straight facts from there and can be pretty stat heavy. Participation is showing up to class
He wants you to memorize specific number instead of focusing on your overall understanding of the book. His exam is very sloppy, some of the answers do not match his lecture or the online exercise that came with the book. My best advice is dont listen to his lecture an dont believe the answer in the online exercise without verifying with the book.
Participation in his class has no impact on your grade. Be prepared for your entire grade to be decided by three tests, so don't slack off when it comes to studying the health book. The actual material isn't difficult, but there's a lot of small, seemingly insignificant definitions that might hurt your grade if you miss the test questions.
I took this class thinking it'd be easy. It wasn't ! I studied a TON ! Took super thorough notes, and barely managed to pass with a 3.0. READ THE ENTIRE BOOK! Do not skip ANY little part ! I had done decent to well on the first two tests, but the last test had 1 lecture and I failed it. study in advance ! Do NOT show up late/ wrong attire !
Rudest teacher. Three tests are your only grade for the class and if you dont memorize word for word of the chapter youll fail. No amount of studying will get you a 3.0+ Not in shape? He will yell at you while you workout! Show up 1 min late? He will tell you to leave. Death in the family & cant come to class? He doesnt care, F for the day.
Your grade for the class is mostly based on incredibly difficult exams. You need to memorize every single detail of the chapters, because the test questions are on incredibly specific numbers and stats, not on an actual understanding of the material. He's also very strict about being on-time and attending class, you have to leave if 1 min late.
Your whole grade is based on three 35 question exams, each covering a different chapter in a book. So just really read the book. He gives lectures which are a little helpful, but there is no other information he provides to help you learn outside of that. if there is any way for you to take another professor I recommend you do so.
my entire grade based off 4 bs test. thats it
Extremely rude and arrogant, especially to international students Lectures are off topic and irrelevant Skip more than 6 classes, you are dropped out Only 4 tests (never covered in lectures) to determine your grade Worst instructor I have ever had in GRC
Tom is the worst professor I have had. His tests are extremely hard, and there are no study guides. He is very uncaring and unprofessional. His lectures are nothing like what is in the book. Avoid him if you can!
IF UR LOOKING FOR A SIGN HERE IT IS! At first yes, i would say i didn't like his class so much but he is not bad, not at all. The only thing negative about this is the test/exam are heavy but is easily passable AS LONG AS YOU STUDY. Attendance aint mandatory but if u want to to what the exam/tests is gonna be on, SHOW UP!
Mr. Jackson should find a new profession. He obviously doesnt care for his job. His online tests are ridiculous. 35 questions in 25 minutes; impossible. He is the worst professor at communicating. Never responds to student questions & concerns. Also, dont forget your workout totals. If you dont add them up, he wont either, Then youll fail
WORST PROFESSOR EVER. I emailed him about a quiz that i missed by ONE DAY and did not respond until I emailed him AGAIN 2 weeks later where the blame was placed on my shoulders for missing one assignment. Never take this class unless you want to deal with arrogance and rudeness
Professor Jackson was overall a good teacher. When emailing him my questions and concerns most of the time he would never email back. He has assignments every week, they are pretty easy just make sure you have the assigned book for this course or else you won't pass!
easiest class ever, easy 4.0
Prof. Jackson's health ed. 150 class was very easy. I took him online and you have weekly assignments and quizzes (very easy just read the book!). Throughout the quarter I emailed him like 6 times! and he only responded to one of those emails. I suggest you just email one of your classmates they will probably respond way better than prof. Jackson.
He clearly doesn't care about his job. His tests are unbelievable, 35 questions in 25 mins. His syllabus is very unclear and does not communicate AT ALL! Especially during covid, ugh no consideration for students and their grades. Steer clear of this class unless you want to be in the dark for the quarter and barely pass a PE class.
This class isn't even about PE, the entirety of the class is based on a couple quizzes and a few assignments. You have to submit 1 PE LOG about what you did every week and that doesn't even count as any grade. But what does count is how well you can memorize. You have to read a 30 page chapter and answer 35 questions in 25 minutes! Try not to take.
Only heard from Jackson through emails reminding us of that week's work. The assignments in the course were pretty straightforward for the most part, just make sure to find some way to access the textbook. If you turn in the assignments and finish the discussions on time, you should be fine. Not the worst, not the most memorable.
The total grade based on 4 tests and a few graded assignments. 10 exercise logs that took a lot of time, not part of the grade. No lectures or any instruction. I read the chapters, took notes, but the questions on the tests were out of nowhere. 25 minutes to answer 35 ambiguous questions. Awful class and will tank your GPA. Waste of time.
The book was required but even with pages of notes I still failed one of his tests. At the end of it all he gave the entire class the wrong grade and made it very difficult to contact him and get it fixed. I had to email the dean of students in order to get the correct grade. It was an unnecessary amount of work for a 2 credit P.E class.
Tom jackson is my no. 1 opp. Made me cry multiple times and contemplate ending it all. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
Tom Jackson is just the worst teacher I have ever had. He doesn't seem to care about his job. He is using an outdated syllabus and doesn't even bother changing due dates from previous quarters, so you had a missing grade dragging down your grade. Also never responded to emails for an ONLINE class. Hardest 103 class ever, tests are near impossible.
This class was not hard at all. Everything is self explanatory. Basically just workout outside of sports or work and track it. There is also an assignment that you track what you eat for 3 days. I did not need to email this professor so I did not have any issues with that.
There are usually 1 to 2 assignment, a discussion post, and a quiz each week. All the content is from the textbook and is not too hard. The quizzes are open note (you can use the assignment from the week to help). He does not really interact with students in the course. Overall, this class is pretty easy, work is self-explanatory.
Be aware that if you take any of his classes, you will not pass. He does not care about students and there is no communication at all.His syllabus is inaccurate; he copies and pastes materials from other quarters without updating the dates. The grading is a joke all of the weight is placed on only a few assignments. He will not reply to you emails.
