Professor Judge is an AWESOME math teacher, he explains everything very well and if you still don't understand he will help you until you get it. He emails you final reviews before tests that are identical to the actual final, all hw is online. He tries to keep things interesting and he's honestly pretty funny. Highly recommend this class!!
His lectures are well planned and extremely clear. One of Ohlone's best math instructor. Judge goes the extra mile for his students. He is very approachable, helpful, and wants his students to do well. Make sure you take advantage of all the help he offers!!!
He showed up to every class excited to teach his students. His lesson plans were on point all the time, and was always willing to backtrack/clarify things if someone needed more help. Super smart guy with a great sense of humor. I wish he'd taught all my math classes!
Take the class! Easy and he will adjust the tests based on how everyone is doing. Tests are easy. Just have to ask for study guide and it is very similar to the test!
This was my first time in 20+ years returning to *any* type of mathematics since highschool and let me just say - Professor Judge was out...STANDING! I was never afraid I wouldn't pass with an A (an A+ was the actual case) because from the start, his "you are a mathematical being" speech set the tone for the term. You will learn well with him.
If you’re not good at math, you definitely don’t want to take his summer class. The course moves very quickly and there are many pop quizzes, though he does hint when there will be one.Prof Judge is honestly a really great math teacher. He knows his material and his teaching style is amazing. His tests r hard only if you do not study. Recommend him!
Best math guru ever. Hated math before. Love math now. Very clear in his lectures.. makes you participate with a dry erase board... [practice makes perfect] Homework is LOADED, but if you don't get any part of it, he is at your disposal almost 24/7. Awesome professor. Cant wait to take him again!
Amazing professor. His lectures are very clear. He goes out of his way to help the students. The tests are easy too. If you study his notes and do the practice questions before the test, you'll get an A. Great guy. homework is online.
Prof. Tom is the best teacher I have ever had. He explains each and everything unless you get that thing. He gives practice test before exams and that are very helpful. This teacher is always there for u whenever you need help. Wish he teaches stats too. Hats off to Prof. Tom.
Do not take this professor if you and math don't get along. I took him because of all the great reviews he got, but I regret choosing him. His study guides are easier than his tests. On the most recent test, he had given us a word problem that he hadn't even taught us. If math has made you cry before, don't take him. Lol.
Professional Judge is that rare kind of instructor who will do whatever it takes to get you to pass the class. He is there for anyone who needed help. He is ALWAYS available, beforeafter class, via phone, text, email whenever you need him!I am a Dsps student with a severe learning disability. I completed the class with an 84%. Hard workwinner.
One of the best Professors Ive had. Took him for the summer semester so the course was impacted but he really wants students to try. His lectures are very important but keeps the class fun. He gives a review and tests questions are very similar to them. He replies very fast and even wants students to call him if they need help. Amazing Professor.
Best teacher ever
Very good experience
AMAZING TEACHER. By far the best math teacher I have ever had! Excellent in his field. CLEARLY, knows his stuff and LOVES to teach it! He wants you to master it and won't stop until the whole class has! I so glad I took him and don't regret a single minute. I actually liked going to his class! TAKE HIM! He is great!
I took Professor Judge 2 times a week for 2.5 hours and the class just went by so fast. It's a usually math class where you take notes and it teaches you methods, but he gives you time to do some problems along the way, and answers anything confusing. HW is recommended, not required but it really helps with the exams. He is very accessible by email
Mr. Judge grades very tediously. But don't be scared to ask questions because he is very willing to help. Has his own way of explaining math problems compared to other teachers, but gets good results. If you don't do hw, you probably won't pass.
It has been an amazing privilege for me to learn Differential Equations from Tom! One of the best math professors I ever had at Ohlone. His lectures are very entertaining and the tests are very straight forward. He doesn't collect homework, but you need to do them to definitely pass the tests. Overall, I recommend him. Take him!
Professor Judge is an amazing teacher who really explains concepts for students to understand and not simply memorize. He got me to enjoy math again. I highly recommend taking his classes.
Summer was pretty intensive but put in the study hours and you should pass. He's always willing to answer questions, and sometimes falls behind because so. First test was hardest I've ever taken. Sometimes grades on curve. Says he doesn't offer exc but gave us some. Show up to take pop quizzes. I expect a normal semester would be much easier.
His lectures aren't very clear and I had a really hard time paying attention most of the time. However, he is super helpful and very good at explaining things one on one. He is always willing to help before or after class and even gives you his phone number to call for help whenever. Overall a good teacher I just wish his lectures were clearer.
I cant believe I left his summer class and forgot to review the course. I am so glad I got to take trigonometry over the summer with Professor Tom. I took it before and was terrified to ever take trig again but Tom made it such a breeze. All tests were fair except the final. I want to take him for calc! hes awesome.
He is very helpful. Will reply anytime you mail. You need to do your work regularly.
Tom is wonderful. He sincerely cares about his students and will help them really in whatever way he can whenever he can. He's funny and nice and he really helps. His lecture is straight from the textbook (all examples and what not) so you could learn everything on your own, but he gives great feedback and helps you understand if you need it.
His lecture is straight from the textbook (all examples and what not) so you could learn everything on your own, but he gives great feedback and helps you understand if you need it.
Mr. Jugde is a very good professor. You just have to make an effort to see him if you have any questions after class. He would also be very considerate with you if you show your hard work from the beginning of the semester. Of course, there are a lot of homework, but trust me it is essential to pass the test.
Very clear, concise lectures. Gives practice tests that are identical to the real ones, with just the numbers changed. Available 24/7 if you need any help; responds very quickly. If you do the work, and ask for help when you need it, you will pass.
Very nice as a person, cares about every student. But tests are too difficult, he will tell you himself that the test are nothing like the problems in the book. He says the books to easy. I had a 4.0 until I met him. Has us study one thing and tests us on a whole different thing. Very bad teacher. Take him if you have been a AP student .
A 4.4 rating does not represent him at all! His tests are EXTREMELY difficult, if you're weak at math, DO NOT TAKE HIM. His exams/pop quizzes do not match up to what we learn, he goes beyond his way to make it even harder. His lectures and examples are from the book. Take him only if you're strong in math, or else, beware.
You could say he's a very strict professor , but fair. He makes himself available practically all the time and if you have any problem with the class or material then he will help you as long as you go to him or ask. If you put in the effort there is no way you'll fail. Has you understand all of the concepts and not just parrot it.
Professor Judge and I did not get off to a great start, but in time, he became the best teacher I've ever had. You have to work hard, but he rewards you if you work hard. He wants you to succeed, not all teachers are like that, but they should be. I can't speak highly enough of the experience in this class, and how it's made math fun.
He's the best math teacher I had until now, textbook is not mandatory. He really cares and is really great one-on-one! You should go to his office hours even if you don't have a math-related question! He's fun to talk to. I took his class in the summer, we didn't finish the last two chapters. He goes by fast in the summer.
Good person but not a good teacher, I garantee everyone who liked him are smart students, if you are anything but a very smart studied you will struggle significantly, he ended up killing my GPA and a chance to a good a UC. Take him if you are not transferring to a UC or don't care about your grades because it is super hard to achieve a B or better
He is awesome in one word. He is available 24/7. I have never seen an instructor who allows students to call him on his cellphone on weekend or at night time!!! He never makes students feel stupid because of their questions even they are silly questions, he still answer them patiently. His exams are very hard; you need to study for them.
Fantastic professor. Being engaged in class and doing the homework will get you a good grade. If you have trouble understanding a problem or anything in the course, you can literally call him! He offers all the help a professor could give, especially to those who do the homework so if you don't pass, it's really on you.
Not a good teacher at all(worst ever)after taking him I really believe he writes his own reviews in hopes of students taking him, look at the dates the positive reviews were submitted, all right when registration opened and weeks before the semester ended... what student gives a review 5 weeks before a final, don't believe me then good luck guys!!
Great person, but a hard tester, his test are literally material from a class ahead, for example I took cal 101a and looking back at his final and tests. I can compare them to a 101b book. he spends too much time chit chatting, guarantee you that he will not finish his syllabus so either you fail the class or suffer in the next class ahead
Tom is willing to help anytime even at midnight. Rarely quizzes, a lot of hw which is assigned probably 3 weeks before due day (he just picks some to grade). He is an easy professor, who can delay the exam date if you ask for and answers everything you dont understand in exam and hw. He gives detail feedback in your hw and exams. So nice and funny.
Professor Judge hands down is an amazing professor. Math is HARD. He made it easy to understand and did everything in his ability to make it easier. He even gives you his own personal number to call him and ask questions if you are stuck. I do not know any other professor who does that. Anyone saying he's hard did NOT try. Try, you will do good.
Tom is really a great professor. He really cares for his students and their success (he gives out his personal number in case you have questions). He expects you to know the material (obviously), but he is a very liberal grader. He is a wonderful person and teacher. I highly recommend him!
Worst profesor you could ever take at Ohlone for maths besides M. Zoubedi. He like to make things harder. Cannot survive by giving easy papers to students, not even a single test. I am gonna regret my whole life for taking this guy. I suggest you to take this prof if you are a straight A's student and like challenges.
Great prof who will work with you. I chilled in class and crammed before tests. He gives great handouts/homework with solutions: PURE GOLD.
Outstanding guy with a lot of patience for students who fail to grasp a concept the first time he explains it or does a problem.
Your presence/participation determine how likely he is to respond to a text at 2am. No lie, he will make himself available to those putting in the effort. Lectures are easy to follow for most and he will take time and questions to make sure everyone keeps up. Speak up if you're struggling. Tests are tough without a good foundation. Makes you think.
I choose Professor Judge as my own choice. Some clear lectures help us understand all Calculus concepts better, and some give us difficulty. Some tests are harder than they were a couple years ago; Professor Judge would just expect us to work for it. If you'd like, you may take him o the Spring Semester.
Tom is a great Professor provided you put in a good amount of effort into class. He helps his students when he can, but only to those who asks. Tests are killer if you do not study more than the given hw and are the biggest thing to worry about. If he likes your class he will let you guys choose when to take tests and will even delay them.
Mixed bag. Overall, he is a bad professor. He explains the material well, but is highly disorganized and lazy. Lots of time wasted on useless info. You will wait minimum of 3 weeks before getting a test back. By the drop date our class had only gotten the first exam back. Our final had material on it that we were never taught. Take at your own risk
Tom is a very patient teacher, mercy on grading, allow notes for some test. funny guy with good sense of humor.
I love the way he spends time on each section of a chapter to help you understand the basics before pre-calculus. He is a though grader and gives pop quizzes so get ready anytime for that. He gives the chance to know the chapters to work on for the tests.
His chapter tests are very forgiving and EASY. But he is not the perfect teacher. You need to get at least a 70% on his final. To add on more stress, his final was the hardest. He threw in problems deep in the book(we've never used) instead of cumulatively taking questions from previous tests. In my trig class, 55% was the average for the final...
He is a great lecturer! However, despite his teaching skills being great, his final will really BREAK your grade. He mentioned topics that would be on the final but only focused on three of those topics. On top of that, we did not review those examples in class clearly. Great lecturer, sucks that the final is complete BS.
Liked him a lot when I had him for trig, but for DE lecture style just didn't work with me. Not to say he's bad though, just not my style. Doing in class examples was helpful, and doing his suggested problems online are probably the best study tactic. Pretty hard exams, make sure you do all his suggested problems and keep practicing for an A.
From Day 1, I already knew he was going to be extreme on grading. The way he talks, the way he's always quiet always means it. The problems he gives on Chapter exams are VERY time consuming. I've studied so much for his exams, but the fact that he gives problems that make you go up to 35,000 on simplification took too much time. Pick someone easier
I do not recommend this teacher. His class is like a speech, and he needs to copy a lot of definitions. His examples and exams are completely two levels. This teacher has no extra points, no curve, you need to sign in class, you need to be ready to pop quiz.
The test and final make up most of your grade, in addition to a few pop quizzes. Lectures aren't to bad, just make sure you're in class on time. I won't lie, his test and final are pretty hard, but he does curve if the average is low and does offer extra credit questions on some test. Lastly email/talk to him about test details, prior to test day.
The worst professor that I have ever seen. You will end up with trying to understand his each individual questions in the test.
Mr. Judge was the best professor I've ever had. He really cares about his students and always says "You can call me at any time if you need help because if I see you're up at that time trying to figure it out I am willing to get up and help you try to figure it out" Amazing person and great teacher. Lectures are very clear
His exams are super hard and the examples he gives in lectures are just not enough to understand the test problems. If you remember everything of Calculus 1 stuff, it may be more doable. He makes his own little cheat sheet and you are also given a page of notes of whatever you want.
First test was really difficult, but the rest were really reasonable. Quizzes can be hard if you dont study material from the previous class. Super accessible outside of class, gives you his cell phone number and answers emails quickly. Gives a rundown of exactly what is going to be on the test, and a very fair grader.
DON'T skip his lectures; they are TOO good to miss! They're very clear; and when they aren't, he's more than willing to clarify/do whatever it takes to help you understand. He's also a night owl; if you ever need help, just shoot him an email or text message! (Remember that he's human too, though!) Don't be afraid to ask him for help -- seriously.
Very great style of teaching, makes sure whole class is engaged. Accessible ALL THE TIME. Text him and he WILL respond no matter the time. He will take as long as you need to explain a concept. Challenges you, but never unfair. Make sure you review the previous lecture before every class, he gives pop quizzes. Also provides EC questions on exams.
Honestly I did not like his class at all. He speaks super softly so if ur at the back of the class, you wont hear anything. His tests are reasonably hard but doable. The worst and stupidest policy of his is that if you get <70% on the final you automatically fail. Even though I had over 70% still failed the class, not a reasonable teacher at all.
Nice guys dont make nice teachers. Take his class if youre gifted, or in high school. Noisy classroom, he belittled people for asking questions for clarity. This was the worst experience with Calculus 3, he teaches in a matter of fact way, direct from the book, exams are the worst. Nothing from the book. Run. Away. From. His. Class. Seriously..
I found Tom to be a lot chiller than what I had heard, but that could be bc I took his class as an online format (thanks, COVID). Tests are on MyLab which is frustrating, but not that off from the homework. His lectures tend to be a little bit monotonous but he has a great dry sense of humor and wants you do to well. VERY accessible outside class.
Gave a respectable amount of homework, but the quizzes were just stress inducing and scary. He's also very available outside of class, but if you're somebody who gets stressed in high-pressure situations, or in social situations, I do not recommend any of his classes. He loves participation. As everyone else says, the final also REALLY matters.
i wanted to choose more topics to add in the tag section but tom judge was a great professor in my opinion, he explained concepts really well and helped me understand them much better. i had a couple doubts coming into the class bc of the reviews, but it's a note heavy and informational class. lecture heavy as well, but it's calculus, so expected.
THOMAS JUDGE is one of the hardest professors out there. His math classes are so difficult to pass as the homework is not consistent with what will be on the tests. Every problem will be a word problem on the test. Do not take his class, it's not possible to pass.
He is a good guy but his exams are insanely hard. they have almost nothing to do with the material taught in class. I really want to like the class better but his exams are impossible to do. Teaches well. Material is interesting but his exams are terrible
Although lectures were online (due to COVID), Tom managed to teach pretty well. His lectures can get a bit dry, but if you take notes and practice, you'll do well in his class. He cares about all his students and will answer any questions you have (in or outside of class). He was a really nice guy, and his pacing was perfect for our material.
Focuses on teaching how concepts work vs memorization (can use text, notes and calculator on exams) Encourages questions so feel free to ask for clarification. (for text, consider WebAssign to bookstore prices) Spend time to complete homework, study review word problems, and study how to apply concepts for exams (word problems).
Professor Tom was one of the nicest and friendliest professors that I've ever come across. His tests were slightly difficult and however, he is so readily available to help you. He wants you to pass the course and actually develop an understanding and passion for the subject. He is easily available outside class and texts back really fast to help.
Tom is one of the best professors I have ever come across. His lectures during the 2020 fall semester were very in-depth and he made sure that everyone understood what he was teaching. He makes sure that people understand what is happening by getting his students to talk during class. I really enjoyed his teaching methods and understood very well.
Don't be fooled by how strict and harsh he sounds in his syllabus - this guy is a real gem. He gave a huge curve on our first Midterm Exam and as long as you pay attention in class and do textbook problems you will do great.
PARTICIPATION IS VERY IMPORTANT! Not for faint of heart because he calls on people randomly! Do your homework ASAP so you can look for textbook practice problems because homework is only half of what you should do outside of class. His lectures are also great, and he answers every question with care! (Ask to use multi colors for EZ visualization!)
The guy teaches pretty well and he answers every question.
What I really love is that Tom grades based on the work you show. If you show him math that makes sense he will grade you accordingly so getting the answer correctly isn't everything. He has very strict boundaries but he is also available outside of class at almost any given time to help with any questions. He answers questions very thoroughly!
Skipped 30% of the syllabus. That time was spent on tedious algebra. The topics omitted---maxima, Lagrange multipliers, Jacobians, line & surface integrals, divergence theorem, Green's theorem, Stokes' theorem---are the meat of the course. If you are a science, engineering, or math major, you will pay later for his pleasing-everyone approach.
Bad experience.
Prof Judge is lenient and understanding. He allows a cheat sheet with example problems and formulas on every exam. Some exams were a bit hard but he curves them by a lot. He also published optional HW from skipped lessons, which gave me about 50 points (half an exam) worth of EC. My biggest tip would be to sit in the front and participate a lot!
Tom Judge is a great professor if you do the work. Easy grade, but you have to put in the work. He interest in the process of learning informs a meaningful approach to mathematics. If you wish to gain a deep understanding and proficiency with the material take this course. His exams weren't difficult either, and he gave us a lot of extra credit.
Don't take him. He picks people randomly to answer the questions immediately after he writes down the problem, which is really frustrating, especially for those who do not want to be put on spot. He is notorious for giving word problems in exams and quiz with meaningless super long descriptions. Good thing is that he gives extra credit.
I had Prof. Judge last semester, and I had a great experience. He was willing to answer questions as late as 12 AM and was also open to calls to further explain problems. You get a 0 for quizzes you miss, but if you let him know ahead of time, you can take the quiz later. His exams are curved, and I would highly recommend taking the class.
Great lecturer but requires participation. Grade is weighted on 3-4 tests inlcuding final but gives in depth study guide and allows for cheat sheet on exam. Exams are hard but reasonable. He gives his number and is pretty much open for communication 24/7. If your struggling he is very willing to help. If you fail final you auto fail class.
This professor is kind and not hard at all, but skips a lot of material. You can get extra credit for doing the HW for the skipped material though. The professor oversimplifies the math a bit, but its because he wants you to do well in his class. He also claims to have pop quizzes, but I don't remember having a single unannounced quiz.
Professor Judge is an incredible professor. The exams are tedious, but not difficult. There is a lot of partial credit on them and they are all curved. There are pop quizzes, but he usually announces them. He is open to communication 24/7 and provides his phone number. He is very nice to talk to and I had a lot of fun in his class!
His lectures were amazing and very enjoyable. His test were slightly tedious but were graded by knocking off points for how many mistakes you made which gave you a lot of partial credit. Quizzes were not hard and only based on the previous days lecture. Lots of extra credit in Quiz and Homework categories. Last chapter(15) was skipped completely.
why.
He was a super chill guy, could text/call him whenever and he would respond. Says he has pop quizzes, but we didn't have many. Tests are easy if you study for them, pretty difficult if you don't. Questions are usually straight from the Stewart Calculus book. Gives hints to test questions in class. Amazing professor, highly reccomend.
Oh Thomas Judge, where do I even begin. Suzie Q helped me realize that your inability to give a proper lecture is first to none. I'll never forget how you manage to completely misdirect students from the main content of the course, but instead throw meaningless 2-page word problems that are incomprehensible and absolutely pointless. Nice going Tom.
He overcomplicates every topic! Class is copying downthe examples&theorems fromthe board, but he doesn't explain whyany of it is relevant unless asked. He alsodoesn't connect it to previoustopics, so it just seems like everytopic is brandnew&completely random. Also the pagelong wordproblems are so beyond unhelpful.Tests are awful.Lots of selfstudying.
He's super nice &tries his best to explain the material well, but tends to over explain the material to the point where its confusing. The grading is annoying, since the exams take up most of your grade, homework is easy 10%, exams are hard asf bc they're all conceptual questions. He let me retake an exam because I couldn't make it once.
Really nice teacher. ASK QUESTIONS. VERY DIFFICULT IF YOU DON'T SELF-STUDY. All exam questions (weighted 50%) are application or descriptive geometric problems. REQUIRES KNOWING HOW TO USE CONCEPTS INSTEAD OF MEMORIZING THEM. Early attendance mandatory if you don't want to miss quizzes & freebies, lots of extra credit (~12% grade increase total).
Thought I would fail this class because I suck at Calculus, yet I somehow got an A. Didn't even need the extra credit. He allows you to bring a page of notes for every exam if the majority wants, and he grades tests based on your work, not the correct answer. Thanks to this, I managed to get high scores on my exams even when I had the wrong answer.
Great professor, gives you plenty of feedback on tests, and plenty of ways to contact him at any time. Lots of extra credit, and willing to help you with anything. Lets you use a cheat sheet on tests. Tests and occasional pop quizzes are all taken directly from the book. Has tons of resources for students: worked answers, lecture support, etc.
Never had a better prof; first time I read his syllabus, I was full of apprehension since there were high expectations, but he takes the time to make sure everyone understands everything and doesn't rush any topics. Very lenient on grading, easy to talk to, always offers to help. Constantly available by phone and text! Not hard if you pay attention
Amazing professor. Explains concepts clearly and breaks everything down step by step. Posted lectures and test prep materials that were extremely helpful and made exams manageable. Also funny, approachable, and helpful during office hours. Just beware of some pop quizzes, which are pretty manageable if you study beforehand. Still highly recommend!
