Really awesome professor. He is very passionate with giving his students a good experience in learning about business.
Look there's a lot of reading. But the stuff is not hard. It's straight forward and gets repetitive at times. This professor is THE man. The first class was enough for me to see what an inspirational character he is. He's open to questions - any time at all. His tests are only what he covers in class, so show up, pay attention and you'll pass.
I love this man! He was my favorite professor this past semester. The class is a good mixture of lecture and class discussion. You need to participate (and it's really not hard so long as you read the case studies from the required reading chapters). Very funny and nice guy with lots of real-world business experience.
BEST PROFESSOR AT KOGOD! You have to read, you have to participate, but professor kohn does an amazing job at keeping the class interesting.. he is my favorite professor here I'm looking for any class to take with him
Professor Kohn is a great professor with a lot of experiences. His entrepreneurial background adds value to the lectures and makes them a lot more practical and interesting. His tests are tough, but if you attended class, participated, and kept up with the readings, you should be fine. This is a very interesting class that I would recommend!
Kohn is hands down my favorite professor. Not only does he have an incredible background in business (making this course much more interesting), he is also an overall really cool guy. He's very supportive of all his students and is a great mentor. If you show up to class, do the reading, and actively participate, an A is very attainable.
Professor Kohn creates a unique atmosphere in class, building on the reading with class discussions and insights based on his impressive real-world experience where he held C-level roles with companies like AOL, Viacom and USAToday, as well as extensive experience in the entrepreneurial world. Reading and attendance is a must, but you'll enjoy it!
Kohn's class is the place to be for MGMT201 in Kogod. Brings an enormous amount of experience to the table from previous work, and knows how to run a class lecture and keep things lively. Content of the class isn't anything to write home about, but TK keeps everything moving along and knows from experience which concepts from the book to stick to.
Professor Kohn was my favorite teacher at American University. He was always willing to go the extra mile for his students and has a wealth of knowledge due to his experiences as an entrepreneur. I recommend reading the book, paying attention and attending class in order to get the most out of his class.
I took MGMT-201 (Global Corporate Citizenship) in the Fall 2014 semester during my sophomore year at American University with Professor Kohn. This was by far my most favorite class to date, and it is all because of Professor Kohn. He was a knowledgeable, inspirational and cool teacher to work with. He is by far my favorite professor at AU.
Professor Kohn is a great professor. He truly gets the most out of his students and leaves you feeling that you have learned something. I took him for MGMT 201 this past semester and will use things I learned from his class for a lifetime. If you don't read you wont pass. There are 3 pop quizzes (if you read ,no problem) , and be ready to write!
Professor Kohn probably has the most real world business experience out of anyone I have had at Kogod. The course work is time consuming, but extremely applicable to real business situations. I am extremely confident that what I learned from Professor Kohn has made me a better professional.
Great class, great teacher. It's not going to be a walk in the park, but it is the capstone class; it's not supposed to be. He picks genuinely interesting cases from HBR and uses the book as a jumping off point to talk about his extensive work history. He's also not gonna BS you and neither will I; One of the best professors I had in college.
Professor Kohn is a gratis teacher and very nice. He helped me feel welcome during my first semester and made his class ver interesting.
Professor Kohn teaches a great class. He is able to make lectures interesting and provide examples of his own experiences. The class is very well organized and effective at teaching useful, interesting information.
Prof. Kohn is a great professor and one of the best in Kogod. His lectures are entertaining and fun, because he uses his knowledge gained in real personal experience and the experiences of his friends. If you want to learn about entrepreneurship and CSR I would definitely recommend him.
Professor Kohn is one of the best professors in Kogod. He really knows what he talking about and makes the lectures very interesting and interactive! He's also one of the few professors that I've met that cares about you as a student. Really great professor and I highly recommend taking his class!
There's no denying it, Kohn is an outstanding professor. Very knowledgeable and with a lot of real world experience, class functions as a forum for students to debate material. My only regret is that the class was first thing in the morning and that I didn't always feel fully awake for it! Definitely take the course with him if you have the chance.
Honestly one of the most knowledgeable professors not only in Kogod but also at AU. Whether you are a business major or not, I would highly recommend his class.
Professor Kohn is one of the best professors in Kogod. He cuts through some of the more academically constipated concepts in the textbook and discusses the material that is applicable. He is a successful entrepreneur and a great guy! Its obvious he cares about his students. Just make sure you do the readings and show up to class!
One of the best teachers I had at American U, took mgmt 458 with him, highly suggest it. basically if you read and contribute in class you'll pass. lenient with grading, overall great guy and great class.
The course material is interesting and he teaches the course really well. There's a good amount of group work. You will do well if you participate, read the text and attend class. One of the best professors at kogod.
Professor Kohn is honestly one of the best professors at AU. He cares about your success and is really passionate about his teachings. He expects you to work hard for your grades and is a great lecturer. He provides real life applications to all the subjects he expects you to know. You should definitely take his class.
Professor Kohn is easily my favorite professor at American University. Always gives helpful feedback and really knows his stuff regarding the course topic. You must do the reading due to a few pop quizzes throughout the semester. Tests are fair and require you to understand the main concepts of the course. Overall loved this class! Highly recommend
He is an amazingly knowledgeable professor with years of experience in the business world. The class is easy enough, but the pop quizzes can keep you from getting an A if you don't study for them. The group project is the most important part, so be sure you don't slack off cause your teammates will review you. He is also great for internships
Tom is a great professor. He is very knowledgeable about the business world. Tom was an adviser for my global consulting project while working for a client in Israel for two weeks. He was very resourceful and always provided help when my team needed it.
I had TK for MGMT-201 and MGMT-458 as well as for a summer program to Israel. He really cares about his students and wants the best for them. He does not want you to fail. If you do the readings (seriously, do the readings) and participate, it will be an enjoyable experience!
Amazing teacher who helps you in and out of the classroom. He's a no BS guy who teaches you what's going to matter and does his best to leave out the questionable academic pieces that you may never use. Take any class he teaches!
He's alright. You'll learn a lot in class, but he does lean on the textbook material some so it's important to read that. Really important that for all written assignments, you don't use any fancy language. He really emphasizes "Business-Style Writing" and will hound you on it. Definitely one you'll want to kiss up to a bit.
Definitely take him if you get a chance!! He teaches in a way that is applicable to the real world. His pop quizzes suck but other than that the course is great and you really learn a lot. By far one of the best professor at AU.
Great teacher and an even better guy. Class is interesting and engaging and he is a very easy teacher to talk to.
Great professor who gives real-world experience and provides great guest speakers. Creates a community within the classroom and challenges you to dream big.
Professor Kohn's class was something I always looked forward to. He made class interesting, while also helping his students learn. He wasn't too hard of a grader and was always available for extra help when needed.
Prof Kohn is an awesome dude and you'll pass his class if you can take 30 mins to do the readings. His pop quizzes involved actual thinking, so you may not want to come to class baked. He knows his stuff! Critics 10/10 recommend.
I had a truly great time and learned a lot in Prof Kohn's Capstone class. He made sure to challenge us and make us work, but did a great job balancing that with a good environment in the classroom and being a genuinely nice guy.
While you will hate Kohn's challenges presented by aggressive deliverables; the experience and confidence gained is invaluable. His tough methodical approach forces you to delivery the best work you never know you could achieve. He is 100% authentic. You must value hard-work and honest feedback to appreciate what he has to offer. Good Luck!
Professor Kohn is hands down the best teacher I have ever had. His class is intriguing and challenges you to think about problems through different perspectives. I looked forward to coming to class even with mandatory attendance. You are required to read the textbook chapter before class and he will most likely cold call on you but is a great guy.
Kohn is a nice man who seems to mean well. The amount of work for the nonprofit class is lunacy. Pop quizzes, reflection papers for every class, 4 presentations, and cold call participation and other homework. He is also the harshest grader with a 94 being the highest grade that he gives. Do not take his class unless u want a bad grade and work.
Prof Kohn offers great insight into the professional world of business. He has years of experience that he brings into the classroom to add to the curriculum at hand. I felt challenged and treated like a member of a start-up team in this course. You will learn new skills for the business world and become a better entrepreneur. Overall great prof
Over the semester Kohn had us create our own social venture plus we analyzed the professor's own nonprofit. There was a lot of work but -- if you form a good group -- you can learn a lot with the dual projects, plus there were pretty good case studies and the two textbooks weren't bad. Half the class received A or A minus so that didn't suck.
Kohn is by far the best professor at AU. He has lots of real-world experience and uses anecdotes to make lectures relatable. He provides valuable feedback on all assignments and wants all his students to succeed. Kohns classes are challenging, but I learned more from him than all my other professors combined. I highly recommend taking his class!
This class challenged me, encouraged me, and I gained some critical life skills. I also learned that it's important to know when to pivot and let go of things that don't work. I have a clearer understanding of what being an entrepreneur means.
I took Mr. Kohn in my first semester of grad school and he really set the bar on what to expect throughout my 2-yr program. He is a great professor and I thoroughly enjoyed his class. Participation and preparation is key for his classes. He likes to "cold call" so students need to be ready to answer or explain. Highly recommend.
Kogod should have him as this course's sole professor. His assignments encourage critical thinking. I was a horrible student. I didn't pass the class with another professor(my first time failing a class) b4 taking it with Kohn. I'm glad I failed now. I now create startups while working in an investment bank & thank him, looking back, for his class.
I took professor Kohn for my capstone. Not going to lie it wasn't the easiest, however he actually brought the best out of me. He truly does care about his student and will push you a little bit because knows his students have the potential to succeed.
Professor Kohn is a dedicated individual who is passionate about what he teaches. You need to work hard to earn a good grade. However, you truly learn from the class lectures and quizzes. He is always available to help you, if you ask for it! I would retake the class because it has helped me develop my involvement in the business world!
Tom is a great professor, perhaps one of the best I've had, he truly has a personality of an entrepreneur, he is one of those people who lives what he preaches. If you want to be an entrepreneur then take his class. His class might be the only class you will ever need to take for entrepreneurship.
He is a very responsible teacher. He always uses his own experience to teach you some business knowledge. While this will help you deeply understand these ideals. The project on this course could let practice your professional knowledge, which learns in class. If you select this course, you just like finish an internship.
I had Professor Kohn for my first ever college business class. His class was interesting and informative, and he makes the material easier to understand with real world examples and anecdotes. I would definitely recommend Prof Kohn, as you can tell he is very passionate about the business world and it definitely translates to the classroom setting.
Professor Kohn is a very good teacher but he makes you work hard to get a good grade. You will have to do weekly quizzes that are 4 minutes each about each chapter in the textbook. Be ready to read and do multiple assignments at once. His lectures are super interesting and he knows how to explain very well.
Professor Khon is one of best professor I ever had. Class was engaging. It felt like conversation where we discuss we discuss the class's course material and how they are applicable to the normal world. It's important because at the end of every class it felt like I actually learned something new which is the case for every class.
Tbh I do not hate Kohn but he is just irrational with his teaching. The project requires you to do analysis over and over the same thing. The final is cumulative with both multiple choices and an ESSAY which you have to write about a case study in an hour. An Hour?! And when students ask about it, he just gonna responds vaguely. Avoid if possible!
Definitely take his class, you will learn so much about business strategy. He will guide you into the business world, and he is helpful with all your concerns. He will CURVE UP! Additionally, his lecture is not boring at all, you will get engaged.
I took Professor Kohn's last semester and it was just not a good experience. Although he does structure his classes in a way that promotes class participation, he is not very receptive to the class's thoughts and struggles. I would not recommend him as a Professor for this class! He is unfortunately a highly egotistical and arrogant professor.
Professor Kohn is very knowledgeable and provides meaningful insight to the course. He does a great job at blending text book concepts with real world application. I enjoyed all the guest speakers he brought in and how interactive his lectures were. It was clear that Professor Kohn was very dedicated to teaching and wanted his students to do well.
Professor Kohn changed my life. He knew exactly what to put to the test in group projects and what to use for quizzing and testing. What I learned in his class was the group projects and the challenges that come from them are most useful in the business world. We have stayed in contact 5 years after graduating. Best professor of my life. Thank you.
Although I received a "B" in Prof. Kohn`s class, I strongly recommend that you take his class. His passion for business is clear during his engaging lectures; he teaches to prepare you for the real world. The directions for all assignments are clear. Detailed feedback is always provided. He Curves UP and wants you to succeed -- he really cares!
Professor Kohn is very knowledgable about entrepreneurship and he is very passionate. However, he lectures a Lot and can be a bit boring, especially if you are not a KSB major or interested in entrepreneurship. He also does not respect students' time (one time he made my group stay an hour after our 3 hour block class)
Professor Kohn is a second-to-none professor to develop your building blocks towards entrepreneurship. The professor was very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject matter. I would highly recommend this professor and their entrepreneurship courses.
Professor Kohn is a very talented professor. He teaches based on real world experience, he keeps the class engaged and provides good feedback. He recognizes when a student is putting in, and is overall a wholesome person. He is one of the best professors offered for this course, I highly recommend taking him.
Very heavily based in groupwork, however feedback was often arbitrary and unhelpful. Grading was often put in wrong so grades would fluctuate wildly. He was open to help students, but kind of assumes you already know what he's talking about.
Prof. Kohn has a lot of experience in business and teaches the content very well. He is a great lecturer, and he requires that you participate in classes. As long as you read the textbook and pay attention you'll do fine. Prof. Kohn is a tough grader on written assignments so be careful to follow instructions and take feedback when it's given.
This class assigned an insane amount of homework for learning so little- and Kohn graded tough to add on. Be warned the entire semester is basically a group project and while you do get graded individually it just takes up a lot of your time (and energy). Kohn was generally helpful & nice- just annoyed me for some reason I still can't identify.
Take this course if you want to get the tools to be an entrepreneur. Kohn pushes his students (& will throw pop quizzes your way to make sure you did the reading). He brought in decent speakers and a real investor to pitch to on the last day. Not a course to simply sit back. It's hands-on. You create an innovation to help solve a world problem.
I have really enjoyed this class and he makes the content engaging. I didn't need the textbook to participate but then I didn't do the best on the quizzes. He was still super nice about it and really loves class participation. He makes the class more than facts and uses real life to teach. He is also super honest which is great!
Took Summer online W/Prof.Kohn 4 great reputation amongAU/ DC community. CaseMethod used majority of HW/Lecture-where examples of RealWorld experiences are given(NOTABLY separates him from most Prof's ESP.considering unique career/success-which he humbly provides examples of mistakesMade) Couse WILL PREP you for Real World.Curves fairly!A=Effort.
Professor Kohn did a great job of explaining the course material and using real world examples to help students understand each of the concepts taught. However, most of the semester is dedicated to one group project that is very time consuming, and the feedback he gives is too general and is almost never helpful.
He responds to all of his emails very well thoughtfully and easy to understand.
Not a fan.
As a freshman at American University, Prof Kohn has been my best professor thus far. Not only is he incredibly engaging during class, but his real world success in business makes his content tangible and inspirational. He cares about his students on a person level and ensures that the feedback he gives is clear and his expectations attainable.
Want to discover what it takes to be an entrepreneur? Then you need to take Professor Kohn's class! Learn from guest-speaker entrepreneurs, master key concepts through engaging class lectures, and pitch your final group project solution to a real investor. Pay attention in class, complete the assignments, work with your team, and you'll succeed!
I was extremely depressed last semester& struggled to pass my classes but talking to prof.Kohn from time to time helped, I was anxious about getting a passing grade but getting the right feedback & comments from the professor helped as he is understanding. The class is a bit difficult imo but if you're not depressed it will not be AS difficult lol.
Go to class, participate, and ask questions. If you do these things, you will be perfectly fine. His class has a massive group project at the end of the semester that will take ~1.5 months, which is super fun and creative. If you have questions, send him an email; he is always very responsive.
Real practiced hand, lets you learn the real skills for success, very worthwhile.
Group project in this class was awful, but he was the best, super sympathetic to situations with bad group partners, and always wanted to help students as much as he could. But you definitely have to do the work.
The content is good, but the class structure is not ideal. The grading criteria are unclear. Make sure to take good notes since there are lots of quizzes.
Prof. Kohn is a really good Lecturer except, he gives lectures on the material after the quizzes are due. He talks about the book chapters not how the book actually reference them but only to the tea that he personally views them. One small section might be half of the quiz because he likes how it's written, besides that. Overall, loved the class.
Professor Kohn was one of the best professors I have had during my time at AU. Challenges his students to truly learn meaningful areas of business and is a well decorated entrepreneur. I recommend you take at least one of his classes and you will learn some sort of real world application of business. He also curves grades! has guest lectures too!
Awesome professor, and would absolutely take him again. As long as you do the work and participate you will do well!
Professor Kohn is incredibly inspiring and supportive. He pushes you to be your best and makes you think outside the box. His classes feel like real-world prep, not just lectures. He genuinely cares about students and creates a space for honest, human conversations. One of the best professors at Kogod!
This professor provides an informative and engaging environment to learn about corporate strategy on a global level. Had amazing alumni speak and the professor always made the content relatable and relevant to real world topics. Every time I got feedback, it was very detailed and insightful. I highly recommend this Prof. Kohn.
Professor Kohn was definitely passionate about his students and it's clear he wants everyone to succeed, however he relies heavily on the TA so pray yours is good. Too many group projects that tank your grade if you get a bad group. Half the classes are pointless lectures on topics you already taught yourself before class for the take home quizzes.
Prof Kohn helped me through everything and he truly cares about his students (even post grad students). He'll answer questions and give great feedback. He's dedicated to helping you grow. Put in the work and you will see it pay off tremendously. You will learn so much about how businesses execute. Once you learn this, people will want to hire you.
