best speech teacher I've ever had. this class was great.

A class with Dr. Tom is like going to the fair, its always a blast.

Tom is great. Really a good man. AR's speech dept is one in a million. He relates to students and gives you every chance to succeed. Wonderful!

Makes going to class really interesting. You're never bored in his classroom.

Tom is so hilarious! There wasnt one day where I didnt laugh in his class. He makes the day so much more fun.

Dr. McCarthy was a fun teacher. He helps you to feel at ease in the classroom so you don't freak out about giving a speech. He helped me to relax a lot and really just enjoy it and not stress. I would definitely recommend him for a speech course

He always made me feel fine about being a retard and i hope someone shows him this because i know how hard it is to feel like youre impacting others. He has deffinately made a profound impact in my life and for that i am extreamly grateful. I'd recommend taking his class...even if you dont like to go up and give presentations. He'll get you to the point where you feel comfortable.

Funnest class I have taken in college thus far. His sense of humor always keeps you listening to his lectures. The class i took seemed like alot of work but then again it was condensed into half a semester.

His longwinded speeches can overwhelm you. They're actually borderline idle chitchat/gossip. His little quizzes are somewhat guessable. Don't buy the book, you won't need it. I made a B without reading a single thing. Do well in all the speeches though!

An awesome teacher. Every day was a new joke, and a new set of silly stories. Within the hilarity and fun filled activities, he made the lesson quite clear.

Incredible teacher and he is hilarious. You will laugh hard every day in his class and learn a lot but it's easy too. Don't buy the book because the quizzes are common sense. Highest recomendations. One of the best I've ever had!

Before the class I was nervous about making speeches, but he is very helpful about you making you feel more comfortable. I was sad that it was a 8 week course because this is a class I could take al year long. Take Dr. Tom's class, you won't regret it!

Dr. Tom is FANTASTIC! Go to class, it's worth it. Skim the chapters for the quizzes and you'll do fine. He's a great instructor with a great sense of humor and he's VERY approachable about everything. HIGHLY recommend Dr Tom!!!

Mr. McCarthy was such an awesome teacher! Seriously, he's hilarious; like stand-up comic. Class is always really entertaining and he kept me rolling throughout the whole period! Great Class. Much Advise you to take him. :)

Made class a blast! Was so funny! Weekly quiz,but if you read you would ace it. He taught in a way that you would remember it and enjoy it. Got the class involved so you got to know classmates. I took him last year and he still remembers me in the halls! Highly recommend him!

Professor McCarthy is a great speaker and a good instructor. He grades fair, and airs on the easy side. His quizzes are pretty easy and his class is always interesting. He is a funny guy, and allows a break half way through class which is awesome.

I've never met a person with a greater sense of humor that this guy! He's awesome, gotta study for quizzes, but the class is fun. Never left a class without smiling at least once. Laughing (almost the entire class time) SO hard I cry lol. I hate speeches with passion but I enjoyed it [can't believe I said that]. Thank you Dr. Tom :) btw, he's hot!

I loved this class! McCarthy may be the best professor that I've ever had. The only teaching he does out of the textbook is for daily quizzes. Classes were always enjoyable, he has a great sense of humor! Three speeches may sound a bit intimidating, but it's SO WORTH IT to have the skills! I learned so much! Take SOME TYPE of class with McCarthy!

You have to be willing to put in the work for this class, but overall a very fun class. I took my first college class with him at 16 and he made it a really nice experience for me.

Dr. Tom is a great teacher. Despite over 20 years as a professor, he is still passionate about teaching students. A super-enthusiastic guy, Tom will have you chuckling with laughter despite yourself, while getting you much more at ease with public speaking. Gives you some of the whats and whys, but also the hows. Good prof!

Class was ridiculously easy and a funny guy. Tests can be passed with common sense answers. Speeches are not hard.

Dr. Tom was absolutely hilarious in class. He was always willing to help out with our speech outlines if we asked and also was willing to go over our tests with us after they were handed back. If you need to take a speech class, TAKE IT FROM HIM!!!!!!

Dr. Tom's class was my favorite class so far! He is a super hilarious guy and makes class really fun with his jokes and funny stories. He is really good at his job and willing to help. Only 2 speeches and a group presentation. Come prepared for the quizzes and tests and you should do fine. I recommend making flashcards of the vocab for each chapter

Best CMST teacher ever! He makes class really enjoyable. Speeches are pretty easy and has really clear rubric. He jokes around to ease your nerves before your speech. Honestly my favorite teacher ever!

Fun lectures! He respects the students and is open-minded. Expect hard quizzes and READ the book. You will leave this class as a confident speaker if you do your work as a student.

Funniest teacher I have ever. He tells hilarious stories during his lectures that relate to the material he is teaching. You play silly games in class all the time to get know your classmates better. He makes giving a speech fun! Easy grader and makes you feel comfortable when giving a speech.

The best professor I've ever had. So hilarious, and he'll think you're hilarious too. By the end of the semester, the whole class got closer because he encourages that. Requirements were clear and feedback is good. If you need a speech class, DO NOT take from anyone else. Dr. Tom is the bomb, and he wears sweet cardigans too.

He's an absolutely hilarious instructor! I always looked forward going to class. However, sometimes he would get carried away with stories and his lectures may be a bit confusing. Don't be afraid to ask for clarification. Quizzes are based off chapters from the book, which are actually quite long. Prepare to endure reading each chapter!

Doctor Tom is hilarious! You get to know everyone in the class and he makes everyone feel very included. There are weekly quizzes on a chapter in the book. You need to read the chapter. Tests are fairly difficult but he gives you a study guide. Group Project and eight page paper as well. A lot of work for a 3 credit class. Overall highly recommend!

Dr Tom is great. Short chapter pre-quizzes most classes but easy if you scan the book. Lectures go fast and are mostly interesting. Only two speeches: an introduction speech and a final informative speech. No homework except studying for quizzes and tests. All in all a great and relatable teacher.

Tom was an awesome professor!. His class was more of a comedy club then an actual class because it was so fun. The only problem I had with him was being on time. He was late many times which sometimes conflicted with the schedule he had for us.

Tom was a great and enjoyable professor. He never failed to make me laugh and makes lectures very enjoyable. He does his best to make you feel comfortable in speaking in front of the class by being comedic which helps. Although the quizzes seemed difficult to me due to the broadness of the questions but the tests had questions that were more direct

One of my favorite professors at this campus and one of the best i've had at AR. Took him for public speaking and he makes the class laugh and not feel stressful about talking in front of other people. As long as you show up and do well on your speeches it will be a good time. He offers extra credit and is there for office hours

Amazing and understanding professor. I took him for public speaking and couldn't be happier with how he ran the class. Not only was he helpful, but he made the class environment comfortable. Attendance was part of the grade but you won't even want to miss the class in the first place. Wish he could teach all of my classes :)

There is a lot of reading, there is a quiz on that pre lecture reading. you can get by with just reading the summary at the end of the chapter, but not recommended. Dr. Tom makes a lot of jokes and tells funny stories which makes class more fun and you really get to know your class mates more in this class.

Dr. Tom picked the perfect subject to teach. A lot of people hate giving speeches, myself included. He makes the environment so inviting and makes the class feel like a little family. I met some awesome people! I still don't like giving speeches but I ended being much more comfortable with them than before. Make you read before lecture quizzes!

I'm not going to say anything that hasn't already been said, but even though my class was fairly early in the morning, I always wanted to go to class. He makes everyone in the class feel more comfortable about speaking publicly. I would highly recommend to everyone who needs a public speaking credit and even people who don't.

Dr Tom is the best! His lectures are hilarious, he gives helpful feedback, and the class environment is very inclusive. Make sure to read the chapters carefully. They aren't too bad, but you definitely can't skim over certain chapters. The quiz questions can be specific at times.

The class is not hard. Just try some. Try on your speeches. Put in some effort. McCarthy is an amazing prof, by far one of my favorites. He definitely gravitates towards the kids who try more.
