He's a nice guy, but gets a little sidetracked while teaching. Aplia was used for tests and homework, and I found the system really helpful. Attendance not mandatory. Tests are not too difficult. Be sure to memorize concepts he reviews because some test questions come straight from the review sheet.
I went into the class just wanting to quickly finish my Econ requirement over summer. Thanks to Tom I'm now on my way to pursuing my Ph.D in Econ. He's a great guy and very helpful. Read, go to class, do Aplia, and ask questions. Should be able to make a B or A!
Imagine John Mulaney in teacher form. That's him. He's a really nice and funny guy, but I can never understand what he teaches. He is pretty scatter-brained during lectures, throwing as many as ten new topics at you at once without explaining any of them and speaking as if you've known them your whole life. I rarely go to class because of it tbh
Great professor all around. Put in effort and you will be fine. His lectures come straight from the book so going to class is not mandatory. Understanding the homework is really important for doing well on the tests.
Dr. McGahee is one of my favorite professors despite my hatred of econ. He made the info interesting, funny and did everything in his power to help students succeed. Go to office hours and ask questions in class and you will do great.
Great professor and knows what he is talking about. Attendance is not mandatory but I recommend coming if you want an A. If you get lost in class, the textbook is great at explaining the concepts and Prof. McGahee is very helpful outside of class. Tests are not difficult if you do the HW and pay attention in class.
Awesome professor who covers materials very well. Sets the foundation for concepts in lectures and uses MyEconLab to supplement and ensure that you know what you're doing. Gives three tests and a final but the final is made of questions from the three tests. Also posts all the slides on his MyEconLab page
He is a goofy guy that enjoys teaching economics to his students! As long as you're respectful, he won't mind if you skip or show up. There are three tests and around 17 homework assignments. Pro Tip: DO THE HOMEWORK AND TAKE THE PRACTICE EXAM BEFORE EACH TEST!!!
McGahee is an amazing econ professor! He is so passionate in a geeky, cute way. He puts all the powerpoints online, so really you don't need to go to class but I went and took notes from my computer and listened to him in the background. Online HW helps. Gives practice exams. Exams are very simple and similar to practice tests and HW.
He is a very funny and extremely intelligent man. His class is very easy and everything can be learned online through Pearson, though I highly recommend attending his lectures. They are funny and he covers the material very well.
The class can be pretty boring as he usually just reads straight off of his slides. Not the most interesting class but he's not a horrible teacher
Prof McGahee is awesome. Highly recommend his class. Super funny, friendly, witty. Do the homework and take the practice exam and you'll have no problem!
Goat. 90 A, just homework and practice tests that are the SAME as the actual test, class is not mandatory and all he does Is read through the slides he posts so really it could be an online class lol, just read notes, do hw, and practice test and you can get an A easily
The lectures were difficult to follow in my opinion and the powerpoints were directly taken from the textbook resource which was also confusing to me. The practice tests and homework are super helpful though. Did better on the test when I wrote my notes instead of typing because it is very graph heavy. The prof is funny and nice though
Best econ teacher I could have asked for. All of his lectures are online and the online textbook/ homework help you learn tremendously. Nice guy who really wants you to do well.
I had to take this class for pharmacy school and lucked out. Mcgahee is hilarious and the tests were easy. As long as you go over the homework and the practice test you will do well on the tests.
If you do all the homework and are semi-decent at Econ, this is an super easy A. If you don't do the homework or pay attention, you won't do well at all. Pretty much all you need to do is do the homework thoroughly and study it, and you don't really need to show up to class. Super nice guy who genuinely wants you to be interested in the subject.
makes the class feasible even if you do not go every day. Has such a great attitude and realizes most people aren't Econ majors, very accessible. Study guides are VERY similar to the test. Attempts to make micro easy and fun for all, would definitely take again. Do HW, do well on tests, and you will get an A. Prepares you so much for final.
If you do the HW and some study it is an easy A. All of the lectures are powerpoints that you can find online so you don't have to go to class. Tom is a caring guy who really wants his students to do well and be interested in Econ. I would HIGHLY recommend.
Dr. McGahee is the greatest human alive. He is so accommodating and his class is fairly straightforward! He tells you what to study for the final exam and never tricks you on other tests or homework assignments. Only downside to this class is that there are only 5 grades so you better make sure you do well on them all! Grading scale is helpful too!
Great and caring professor. 100% would take again.
Tests come straight from the homework and study modules - study those and you'll be fine. Homework is an easy hundred that goes in as a test grade. The final just repeats old test questions. He was the best professor, and lectures were helpful but not necessary. Take him if you can, he made me love econ!!
Professor McGahee was great. His tests were all multiple choice and came straight from his powerpoints and practice tests. The homework questions also came right out of the powerpoints. Everything you need for the course is posted on a user-friendly website, so you only have to show up for the tests. Study the graphs and vocab and youll get an A.
McGahee is easily one of the most caring and efficient teachers that I have ever had. He keeps the workload to a very reasonable amount and teaches the essentials for the test. He also provides plenty of non-mandatory work for those looking to prepare extra. Beyond that he is funny and clearly loves his students and his job.
Professor McGahee is one of the most easy going and caring professors. He makes economics fun and simple to understand class. He gives practice tests, and the tests are almost identical to the practice test. It is a class that you can study a couple hours the day before and still do well.
GREAT GREAT professor!!! So nice and fun in lectures. Cares so much about his students and is always positive. Attendance is not mandatory. For tests he gives a practice test that is basically the test but will need a little extra studying to make an A. Overall wasn't the worst ECON I have taken here.
Dr. McGahee is awesome. His class is super interesting. There are two options for taking this: 1) Show up and take notes or 2) Don't go and review his powerpoints. Both ways, you should get an easy A.
if you take any other teacher for econ, you're making a BIG mistake. tom is a great teacher and really knows econ and will try hard to help you understand it too. practice tests and hw are very similar to tests. very easy to make an A (which isa 90) if you actually try (and you dont really need to go to class if can work on own well)
McGahee is an amazing teacher! He's keeps giant lectures interesting, does a great job showing how complex topics are applicable to the real world, and is hilarious. He posts all the slides and HW is online. The HW and practices tests do a great job preparing you for the tests which are straight forward and fair.
He posts all of the power points online. He basically just reads the power point during lecture. He gives a practice test before each test that is pretty helpful and reviews with us the class day before the test.
There is a lot of homework but they are averaged together at the end. Only three tests and one cumulative final. Tests are only 22 questions so every question counts. Class is not mandatory but it is important to go if you want to do well in the class. Professor is nice, but overall the class is not an easy A. You must study a lot to do well.
The BEST. Not only does he make his lectures ridiculously easy to understand, he is incredibly accessible outside class. I missed an extended amount of class b/c medical reasons and he sat down with me for hours and taught me the entire chapter. Tests will not trick you, he provides great practice tests, and homework is helpful. 10/10.
Definitely take econ 2100 over 2200. First and second tests are easy As but the third one is hard. 90-100 A and his test questions are basically the homeworks and practice tests
I might be the only person on here who gives prof mcgahee a less than perfect review but honestly he's just OK. You have to work a lot on WAY too much homework and bear through lectures that are mindnumbingly boring. If you can, I recommend taking someone else. I worked way too hard and endured countless lectures for a C.
Your standard easy lecture class. After the first day of class, two-thirds of the class suddenly disappears until test days. It is a bit hard to stay engaged, but it can be entertaining to watch McGahee try and be relatable to college students through economics. If you do your homework and understand every bit, you'll get an automatic A.
McGahee made me want to become an econ major. He is always available to answer questions about class, and he tries his hardest to keep you engaged in the material. He is realistic about his class and tries to schedule things so that you can do well. The tests are easy if you come to class and pay attention. Definitely try to get in to his class.
He actually makes me understand economics which is saying enough. His lectures are great with his dorky demeanor and actually makes sense. He is accessible outside of class and will help you if you have a problem with the homework or anything. Class is not easy and is not suppose to be, but he helps it become easier.
nice guy who is always willing to answer questions. his tests are just hard enough to make sure you did the homework and understood the basics. lots of test questions are from the homework and the graph questions are similar to the practice tests by replacing numbers or switching concepts. memorize the homework questions and u will get the MC part!
McGahee is a great professor who clearly loves econ. With that being said, his tests are hard and you have to study to get the grade you want. Beyond that, his expectations are clear and he's a really nice professor. He's VERY accessible and loves his students. Take if you are a good test taker and like econ already.
Great professor . Makes it very possible to pass and succeed without going to class
Really caring and good professor. There is homework for every unit, three tests, and a final. Tests are very similar to practice tests, and homework is easy. Attendance is not mandatory, and this is a really easy class.
Really cool guy, tests are 25 MC and gives practice tests for every test that are a good hint to what is going to be on the actual test.
If you aren't good at econ don't take this class. He is really nice, but also very smart, so it can be hard to keep up with the fast paced info. The homework is an easy 100 and helps with the tests. He doesn't drop anything or give extra credit, and the final is cumulative. As someone just trying to get credit for Grady, it messed up my GPA bad.
He really cares about his students and about the material. He does his best to make it interesting, but the material is so dry and its SO difficult to pay attention in class (most dont even go). If you can study on your own then you will do well. Theres only three MC tests + homework and a final so it is CRUCIAL to do well on the exams.
awesome guy. u really can't complain about the prof bc he is always willing to help. Econ can be a tough subject for people, but he makes it as easy as it's gonna get. homework isn't easy, but u get 2 attempts and 2 lowest are dropped and it doesn't take long! 3 tests aren't too bad. final was the concepts from the 3 tests rephrased. can't beat him
It's easy to skip class, but if you want to do well I would not recommend it. He tries to make lectures interesting and usually ends class early. The tests are a large part of your grade and the final is mandatory so you can't really slip on anything. But he makes himself accessible through email and office hours so it's easy to ask questions.
Call me crazy, but MacGehee makes his class too easy. It's like a community college class. You memorize the practice test and get a 100% knowing absolutely nothing. He's a nice guy but his class is an embarrassment to UGA.
Protect McGahee at all costs! This man is a saint, and the class was a breeze. Online homeworks each week, but they are super short and become test questions. 3 tests, and the answers are all on the study guides and ELC. Make sure to prepare for like an hour the night before and you'll be fine. Class isn't mandatry, but do the homework.
I. Love. Tom. He's so passionate about econ and this class is so easy. He posts all the power points that so you definitely don't have to go to class, but I always did because I genuinely enjoyed hearing the stories and epithets he had to add to the information. He's smart and caring and I have signed up to take econ 2100 with him next semester.
I may be the only person who has any criticism here. Mcgahee is nice and you can tell he cares for his students. However, the exams are worth an insane amount of your overall grade. We have not been given extra material or lectures to help study since we have been out due to COVID 19. I am disappointed bc I really hoped to like this class.
The class is really easy but your grade is 87% exams. If you're the type to prefer exams over side work, then this class is definitely for you. McGahee tries his best but his lectures may be boring simply because it's intro econ. You can get by with just looking at the slides he posts but if you need help, he's very open.
Dr. Mcgahee is fine for ECON 2106 but, tests make up the vast majority of your grade and there is very little room for error, he doesn't pull punches on the exams either so be well prepared.
This is my first review here. Just DON'T take him, got my first C thanks to him. I don't know if things would have been different had it not been for COVID-19. He just posted the notes online and was largely inaccessible. Econ needs to be taught which he didn't do after the Spring break. He told us on the day of the test that we have a test.
Dr. McGahee is a wonderful, brilliant person who cares about his students and goes out of his way to ensure they are doing well. He is also extremely intelligent. A great deal of what he said simply went way over my head; I had to spend extra time with the material to dumb it down for myself. The class is 3 tests worth 87% and homework is the rest.
Dr. McGahee is a great econ professor. The tests are like the homework, but the conceptual stuff can be tricky. Do not slack and study the night before. Its an easy class, if your prepare well for the tests which are most of your grade.
By far the BEST economics professor at UGA! The way he explains concepts makes sense and he doesn't actively try to screw over his students. You have to study the practice exams and notes taken during class for the exams, but they're fair. If you actually want to learn economics concepts and have them stick in your brain after, take McGahee!
I would die for this man. I've had the opportunity to take him for two different econ classes and I would eat my boot to take another one. He's passionate about econ but also super understanding that, a) not everyone is and b) we're tired college kids. He approaches every lecture with enthusiasm and generally is a ray of sunshine. Super easy class!
TESTS ARE HARD AND NO SYMPATHY WONT DROP LOWEST TESTS OR GIVE XTRA CREDIT. ITS PASSABLE BUT U HAVE TO REALLY HAVE TO STUDY ALL WEEK AND REALLY HARD
Mcgahee seems like a good professor but his course was super streamlined by the transition online. he has prerecorded lectures which he breaks up into 5-20 minute videos each, then theres the homework and the tests. be prepared to put in a bit of time studying but it wont kill you!
Very nice man, but make sure you study for his tests. Just because they are online and open note, does not mean that you do not need to study.
Fall 2020- One of our tests fell on the day following a quite stressful election day. With this in mind, Professor McGahee allowed students the option to take the test the following week with no penalty. One of the most considerate professors I have ever had, and his class is interesting and organized too. 10/10 recommend
Awesome guy! Gives you every opportunity you need to get an A. So nice and you can tell he cares a lot!
He's a great professor that wants to see you succeed. He gives you a "study guide" with all the math problems that will be on the exam, so that there are no tricks. 3 tests, no final. Homework for each chapter that is helpful for tests. Has posted slides and short videos to let you study the way you do best.
I was borderline at a C and B minus and he gave me a b minus, and for that he is the GOAT, the class was tough but just study really hard and try to understand the graphs and concepts!
he was super nice and his lectures were very informative. i found the tests kinda hard but i never really studied and got B+'s on all of them. homework every week but its super easy and helps for the tests. no extra credit but he did round my grade at the end. if you have to take micro take him!!!!
Professor McGahee is really nice and understanding. He explains stuff well in his lectures and you can always ask him questions. His test are open note, but you still have to study to make sure you do well. There's only 3 tests and he doesn't replace, but if you study well & carefully it shouldn't be a problem!
He's so cool!
HE IS GREAT! He has many good qualities, and I would take his class for sure! Dr. McGahee Is so cool! So... yeah... !!! If you try it, you'll like it! 99% Guaranteed!
Dr. McGahee really is the goat. Homeworks are easy and tests are fair. If you go over his study guide and attend the study sessions no reason you wont get an A! He also makes himself really available to help outside of class and is a super nice person. Wish he taught courses in my major tbh! Take Econ 2100 for your Terry Econ requirement!
McGahee is incredible nice and open and you can always go to him with any and all questions. He made this class way to easy with open note tests. I would definitely take him again and recommend his class to a friend. I can tell that even if the class was more difficult, he would be just as nice and just as helpful to students. Great guy!
awsome
I would die for this man. He's super funny and is so passionate about what he teaches and he actually wants everyone to learn and understand the material rather than just memorize it. Took the class during COVID so everything was open note. As long as you do the homeworks and pay attention in class, there is no reason you shouldn't get an A.
McGahee is a great guy who was super accessible to students and loves his job. Easiest class I've ever taken too. I never had to study and got a pretty easy A. Every test was open note. There is literally no reason to not take McGahee. I don't care if its an 8 AM on MWF - you don't even have to bother going to class to get the A.
I have enjoyed his class. Will McGahee.(hehe)
2 tests and a cumulative final. Homework for each chapter but easy to do with the slides. Overall, very simple class that doesn't require a ton of effort. McGahee is very caring for students as well.
Best professor I've had at UGA. Straight forward grading and lectures. If you show up and listen to lectures you'll get an A. Great guy and really passionate about what he teaches. HW is accepted late, he always finishes early, and tests are open book. Class content is interesting as well.
Literally the kindest and most caring professors I have ever had. He is so cool and has the best stories! Personality wise, thing adorable (genius) puppy. Class is fun and I seriously look forward to it. Its not hard but you learn so much and he makes learning econ so fun. This man deserves an award!! HE IS SO ADORABLE!! I LOVE MCGAHEE!!!!
Econ 2100 was one of the easiest classes I have ever taken at UGA. I stopped coming to class after the first test and still got A's on the next two tests. The homework was easy and prepares you for the test. Don't waste your money on the textbook, you don't need it. McGahee is also a super nice guy. I'd definitely recommend for an easy A.
This man is the best. Super easy class, do it for Terry Econ Requirement. Cannot stress enough how great this was. Just do the homeworks and study the homeworks and you will do very well on tests. McGahee is funny, nice, and he teaches concepts very well if you decide to go to class (which you dont have to). Take this class.
This man is an angel. He is so inspirational, so FUNNY, so genuine, so nice... I learned so much! He makes the class so fun and engaging. He honestly is such an inspiration. I love him. I am sooo sad the class is over tbh.
Really easy class, test were open note and a lot of the questions were based of the hw and study guides.
Top 3 best college professors to me. Made me want to go into Economic consulting and helped with a ton of questions I had about the industry. Sadly this is his last semester teaching but if he comes back you have to take a class with him. I had him for a 9am and classes were optional but I still went because I enjoyed his lectures. Easy grader too!
Take McGahee if you have the chance. He makes things easy and straightforward. You do not need the textbook and he is easily accessible outside of class. I think that this is his last semester at UGA but he was hands down my favorite ECON professor.
More like McGODhee! He brought life to an otherwise soul sucking subject. He was always excited to teach, in order to avoid boring lectures. If you stay on top of the homeworks, and study for the exams, you will do fine. For a Principles class, he did a great job of embedding concepts in to our heads. On a scale from 1-10, I rate him 5 stars.
the professor himself is awesome, he is super funny and really enjoys what he does. The class is incredibly test-heavy though. One mess up and you are basically done for. No extra credit and no test drops/curves either. Great guy but just a weird formatted class
Professor Mcgahee is amazing. You can learn a lot from him, and he is a genuinely nice person.
I thought he was very good at keeping me entertained and he teaches very well. The homework assignments do not take too long, but there are only 2 tests and a final so you have to do good on all of those to do good in the class. I thought he was a good professor and very funny so I was rarely bored in the class.
Your whole grade relies on the tests and final exam. He does not curve or give extra credit. If you like jokes and want to stress about your grade take him, but if you actually don't want a test heavy class then take someone else.
such a sweet and funny prof!! lectures were interesting and he tries to be entertaining! tests are open note and its p easy to do well imo
Really nice guy, but a very test-heavy class. You are graded almost entirely on tests, with no extra credit and slight possibility of a curve. Make sure you're prepared for the tests because you probably won't recover if you bomb. Homework is easy. Tests have a short time limit which is why they're hard. First test is hardest and final is easiest.
McGahee was a very nice guy and easy to communicate with but the class is pretty much only based on test grades. There is homework but you until the next test to complete it. All homework is due for the unit on the day of the test. Also, he posts the slides and you don't have to go to class but I would highly recommend going.
This class was really easy. The homework prepares you well for the tests(which are open note) and there are even practice tests to help prepare you. You do not have to go to class to do well, but if you do go to class he is a very good lecturer.
Tom McGahee was the best professor I had at UGA.
