Professor Miller is not a professor I would recommend. Although the grading for this class was the fairest possible, other aspects of the class left you feeling uncomfortable.
Horrible professor. Does not like to help students. If you have a question or don't understand something he will make you research it instead of helping you. Very hard! Quiz every class and Final is totally different than quizzes
Tom Miller is by far the worst professor I have come in contact with at Kennesaw. This is the first time I have ever left a comment and it was because he was so bad. We all wanted to go to the dean about him. Everything he teaches you will not be on the test. How do you study for it then. U ask for help he tell you to look in your book!
if i had known how terrible mr miller is i would have stayed away from his class, i feel like he is more interesting in seeing you fail than succeed, because he emphasises on the quizzes more than helping you understand the material. one good thing if you forget your calculator he will let you use his, also give you time to finish your exam.
Test everday over the material you cover that day. Be there everyday and take every test.Get a 100 on twenty tests and count them all. This will help you because the final is ridiculous because you dont retain any information because once you take a test on it you basically do not revisit the information.I barely got a C but very possible to getA
Does not care about his students.Very lazy, disrespectful towards his students. Gives quizzes everyday. Stay away!!!
I think he is actually very lineant because out of the 14 quizzes you count at least 5 and at most 10. Plus, he ALWAYS curves his tests. For 3100 I got an A, now I took him again. He pulls out most of the tests from a database so if you study the book you are fine. I don't see why so many complain...
I would not take Miller. You have a test every week in the class and the material is covered 45 minutes prior to taking the test. You have no time to study. Also he doesn't answer your questions. The final was not at all related to the previous tests over the semester and he doesn't give a review for the final either.
HORRIBLE....Need I say more! He doesn't answer questions, acts like he doesn't care if you pass or not. Test every week and none of it is on the final, which is impossible as well.
Has a quiz every week. Do the assigned problems before class, and you should do well on the quiz. Buy the study guide!
I would recommend this prof. Has a quiz every week covering the chapter that you have just studied. It's easy because everything is still fresh in your mind. He gives a chance to accumulate your grades during the entire semestr, so you can easily get an A. He always lets you finish your exam. I don't understand why so many complains...
Prof. Miller is a straight to the point, no-nonsense kind of guy. He acts more like your boss than your professor. I believe he does this on purpose. Finance is not a profession for softies, and he's giving you a taste of the real world. If you like a "baptism under fire" method of learning, you'll find his class rewarding.
I liked Mr. Millers teaching style. There are 12 weekly tests that are usually 10 multiple choice questions. You learn the material and then you immediately get a test. This helps keep everything fresh.
I can see how a lot of the negative comments come from the 3100 classes. If you are not interested in Finance I would steer clear. Though if ya like the stuff, and show interest, he's a great professor. A little dry at times but never boring. Financial Derivatives is not exactly strait forward, and he does a great job of interpreting the book 4 us!
took corporate in the summer. test every class period - total of 15 tests. you got to pick how many of those to count toward your grade (between 6 and 12) great teacher! loves finance! would definitely recommend him. rarely had to use the book. easy A or B.
The hardest class I have ever taken. Rudest teacher I have ever taken. Worst situation to be in. It will frustrate you wtut a doubt.
I honestly have no Idea why people don't like Professor Miler. I am a Finance Major and, while I am particularly good at Finance, his class seemed enjoyable to a majority of the people I talked to. COLLEGE IS NOT EASY, if you expect it to be, go home. Its not for you. FINANCE IS A HARD MAJOR. Its probably not for you either. Profs won't baby you.
Miller is a knowledgeable teacher but his teaching style is a bit odd. Corporate Finance is tough already but he makes it a little more than necessary. Tests sometimes are a bit above the stuff in the books, so you need to go to class every day and pay close attention as well as read the material before.
This guy really knows and cares about FIN. A very wise man. Like stressed previously, you must read the material prior to learning it and do well on the chptr tests from the get go. FIN is not for the lazy but if you apply yourself this is definitely the guy to take.
Worst math teacher ever!!! He refuses to teach/help his students: before class, during class, after class, & during office hours. I'm an A student in ECON & CAL. I think I need to drop this class. I wish I could have saved my money, time, and fustration by taking it with another teacher!!!
Give professor Miller a chance. He gives out notes at the beginning of each chapter and covers it in class. This is your best study guide, know what you do in class, the same stuff will appear on tests. A is easy if you work for it and stay on top it.
Tom is a very unorthodox teacher. He expects YOU to learn the information and tell him how to work problems. This can be helpful for people who put the work in to learn the information but harmful to those who don't have a good grasp on the material. Not an easy A but certainly attainable.
You have to work hard to learn the material outside of class. Once in class he will go over the material, and he has no problem going over things if you ask. I would take this proffesor again.
He is terrible and negative
Awesome professor who really knows finance! Class is challenging but an A is definitely achievable if you go to all the classes and study the material. Grade comes from tests only and the final will replace one or two of your lowest test grades. He's got a very dry sense of humor that will lighten the mood. Only take him if you love finance!
Took him this summer for an 8 week session. He is very intelligent and definitely knows his Finance. Class is fast paced. Lots of handouts every class. Attendance isn't mandatory, but it's near impossible to pass without going. There are 2 tests, and an extremely hard optional cumulative final to replace lowest test grade. Hardest class I've taken.
If you are not a math major you will have a very difficult time. He is very hard and doesn't explain things well at all. I am a straight A student and his class is killing my GPA. Do not take unless you are really good at math.. Avoid at all costs!
I thought Prof. Miller was awesome. He gets straight to the point. He helped me get a way better understanding of Finance. Taking him again next semester.
The material is not hard if you study it, he goes over just about everything you need to know for the tests. His tests are short 20 questions or so, but they are very tricky so do not rush through them. 4 tests with a final, final replaces lowest grade, and lastly he allows you to use a note sheet on tests which is VERY helpful.
He always tells you to read the book. He has power points and will not post them. He does go over problems in the class and he makes the class tell him the answers. He will tell you if the answer is wrong.
Professor Miller has an odd way of teaching. He won't give you the answers to the examples in class, and he responds to every question with "Well I'm not sure what you mean". Go to class, write down the formulas, you'll be okay on tests because he allows cheat sheets, but that's about all you can hope for. 4 tests. Just laugh at his bad jokes.
He does not dumb down the material at all, so be ready to teach yourself or get help from a tutor if you do not have a good grasp on statistics. 5 "midterms" with a cumulative final - he drops the lowest grade. Tests are hard, but he allows a cheat sheet. Optional homework problems. Overall, would not take him again.
Material covered in class is taught in a completed different way than presented on tests. No graded homework to prepare for tests. He is a dry lecturer - goes over all the formulas, but rarely gives practical application. 5 tests with a final. He drops the lowest test grade and lets you use a cheat sheet on every exam - my saving grace.
Was hesitant on taking Professor Miller due to hearing about his teaching methods and how difficult class could be. However after taking him for statistics last semester I was pleasantly surprised. Professor Miller doesn't hold your hand through materials but he is open and helpful just ask! Attend all classes, study, and make a nice formula sheet!
Professor Miller is THE teacher for the derivatives class. He clearly shows you everything you need to know with the in-class handouts that he follows. 4 tests plus an option final. Tests are all multiple choice and he will grade 20 question tests out of 14-18 questions. ie. 16/20 100 on the test. Blank sheet front and back for notes on tests.
Great teacher! Hands down. Very easy going for such a hard class. If you need to take BStat, I suggest you get into his class
Great professor. No homework/quizzes. 5 tests + 1 final. Each test covering about 2 chapters and final is cumulative. Study his handouts, read necessary chapters, and work problems in the end of each section/chapter. DO NOT IGNORE DEFINITIONS. He allows cheat sheet, which is great. Work hard on 5 tests and u don't have to worry about your final.
Professor miller is a smart guy. He knows what he's talking about ! However he doesn't provide any study guides . Doesn't let you see the tests and is rude if you ask him questions. Don't take him for derivatives , you really have to learn it on your own. He never explains anything out of class. 4 tests multiple choice and that's your grade!
If you love boring classes where the teacher doesn't explain anything, then this class is perfect for you. Six tests (lowest dropped) with no homework & tons of handouts every class. You get to take a cheat sheet into the test, but you have to teach yourself all the material because he doesn't.
Tom is a dry-humor, slow talking guy, and that doesn't go over well if you get in a 9pm class with him; however, he knows his stuff. Gives handouts in class and pretty much goes by those. You may get a video or 2 to watch to help explain a concept from the handout. 5 tests + optional final, sheet of printer paper for cheat-notes on each test.
Tom Miller is a GREAT professor. He has 7 grades, 6 tests, 1 participation grade that is worth a test so attendance is not mandatory but it can get you out of the final. Each test you get a full front and back cheat sheet and for the final, you can use all 5 sheets. Follow the handouts, don't buy the book unless you need the extra exercises.
I love him. He gives packets out for every chapter and if you take notes and listen to him you won't even need the book. He is slightly monotoned so it may be hard to completely pay attention, but if you're stuck he doesn't mind helping. Responds to emails quickly & only grades 4 tests. He honestly wants you to learn finance and not just math.
If you can avoid taking Professor Miller I would. His tests are difficult and he hates using any online resources (he never emails back and nothing is posted to D2L). He doesn't explain things very well and I and other students needed a lot of help outside of class.
Very poor professor. Nobody in my class understood much and was not accessible outside of class. Speaks in a monotone. Gives out packets for each chapter but they are very hard to follow. Textbook use isn't required but I understood it so much better than his lectures. Does let you make a cheat sheet for each test. Avoid if possible.
I read the reviews before I signed up for this class and assumed they were just exaggerating how terrible Tom Miller is. I worked so hard for nothing in this class and rarely get C's. He hands out packets like candy and they ARE NOT HELPFUL. He also allows a cheat sheet, but the tests are so hard it does not help. I am praying that I made a C.
The issue is his teaching style. He hands out packets to make it easier to follow but he flies through the material so fast its hard to even keep up with the packets. He allots an entire paper for each exam as a cheat sheet and thats the only reason I passed. I put down as much information as I could from the book and his examples on the packets
Avoid at all costs for Business Statistics. Allows a cheat sheet for every exam but it barely helps because he simply does not teach a thing during class. His lectures make no sense and he doesn't put any of his handouts online. There are only 5 tests that you are graded on.
The way he teaches is a different level of confusing, so you have to grind out the textbook if you want a good grade. The tests are hard but you get a cheat sheet. He does make some funny jokes but its not worth the risk. Avoid if u can!
Miller is a boring lecturer. His monotone voice and dry delivery makes me want to fall asleep. It's a struggle to pay attention in his class. If you have taken a basic stat class, you will do fine. he lets you have a cheat sheet every test and the final isn't cumulative. Easy if you try, but the will to try is so low.
His lectures were good, but when we did practice problems he doesn't just give you the answer. He waits for you to come up with one. He wants some class engagement. This is to push you to learn for yourself, which is not for everyone. He does go over the problems and shows you the right way. Write all that down, because its helpful for his tests.
This was the easiest class I had. He allows you a cheat sheet front and back which made this class simple. He gives you notes nearly every lecture and his questions come straight from the notes packet. I retyped his notes packets as my cheat sheet and got an A in the class. As long as you can do the math and memorize the vocab, you'll do well.
I took this class at 8pm and missed so many classes. He gives only five grades which is five tests. Each test you can earn tons of extra credit points with homework. I got three 100s with minimal studying and barely going to class. The teacher is pretty funny and hes super nice and informative. Easy A.
Professor does not give feedback for quizzes or exams. When asked to explain incorrectly answered questions, he does not explain. He will not release quizzes to see which ones are incorrect for you to prepare for the exams. The only positive thing about this course, there is not a group project.
I don't know how Tom Miller has bad reviews. I have taken him for two classes and they are extremely straight forward and passable. They are some of the easiest A's I have gotten in college because he does not make it harder than it needs to be. He teaches the material then tests you on the same stuff he taught. He also super sweet and pretty funny
I dont see why professor Miller has bad reviews. His classes are very straight forward and easy to pass. He responds to emails very fast and is always understanding to whatever issues you are having. I would definitely recommend taking his classes.
Professor Miller is a great professor. There are weekly quizzes, and you can make up to a 110 on them, and then there are 3 exams. He drops the lowest quiz and exam. The lectures and study guides are exactly like the quizzes and exams. I highly recommend taking him!!
I have taken Mr. Miller for multiple finance classes. His classes are extremely straightforward. On every single quiz and test, he gives extra questions so that even if you get a couple wrong, you still get a 100. As long as you do every quiz/test (4 non-cumulative tests & 1 quiz a week) you can get an A with little effort.
This class is an easy A. The work is super easy and tests were open notes.
I took his class for Business Statistics and the fact that he has a doctorate, he should have taught better or even at all. He just reads off the powerpoint slides. The only nice thing he does is allow the quizzes and exams to be opened note. The quizzes only have 5 questions so you basically fail is you get even one wrong. I do not recommend.
Easy A, A quiz every saturday and a test once a month or so. Would definitely take again, hes very sweet!
We have 10 easy quizzes, each 11 questions (10 and an extra credit). We have 3 total exams that have 32 questions (30 and 2 extra credit). Your lowest grade gets dropped. He is very kind and understanding!
I enjoyed this class. Easy A! Just take notes and study. The content of this class is very easy to understand versus other class.
He truly enjoys the subject he teaches and has a positive attitude. The lectures aren't the most interesting to a hyperactive teen, yet the content is easy and his assignments are open notes. Take the time to show up when you can, and do assignments on time.
I cant say I enjoyed this class. Zero ability to explain any missed questions. Refuses to release the questions you missed. Incredibly frustrating, lacking and just clueless about how to help students figure out what they missed.
Very sweet man but he's lectures were long and boring! Gives out packets mostly every week and uses them to teach class! Must purchase a finance calculator in order to pass his tests!!! A "cheat sheet" could be used during tests and they were mostly curved as well. Overall, he was an average professor but his lectures were boring.
Lectures were pretty boring and he just goes over a packet but the tests aren't too difficult. He mixes word problems (which we didn't go over) and math equations (easy) and you get a cheat sheet to write whatever you want down. He also curved every test by 25 points so it was very hard to make a bad grade in his class.
Professor miller's class consists of 4 test and that's it they're all equally weighted. 24 questions with 4 bonus. You will not pass if you don't attend his class. Does not give tests back to see mistakes, when asked about grades very short responses.
Miller has 4 multiple choice test, each have extra credit. His lectures follow paper hand outs that he gives in class. He's very monotoned and can be hard to listen to. If you're interested in finance he is a good professor who is really into the subject. If you are not interested, you'll probably be asleep 5 minutes in. He's a very nice guy.
Dr. Miller is a sweet man, and arguably a great teacher. If you struggle with math or this class, there are better professors for you. This class is based only on 8 test grades, 1 every 10 days. The course moves very quickly, if you miss one day, you're screwed. If you're not great at math or know you're not going to show up, don't take this class
There are 8 tests and a final, although you can get a maximum of 114-121% on each exam. He rambles on without explaining the material well, which left me feeling confused after class. His teaching style is reminiscent of listening to Joe Biden talk; he seems too old for the job and often appears confused.
He's probably the most straightforward professor I've had at KSU thus far. He teaches you the material and then tests you on the exact same stuff. He lets you use a sheet of paper for notes front and back on each exam, the lowest one is dropped.
I've taken him for both econ 2300 and fin 3100. You're only graded on exams but he lets you use a note sheet front and back and curves all of them by 3-5 questions making it hard to do badly on them.
Professor Miller is an amazing teacher. He cares about his students and he makes sure everyone in class understands what's going on. There are only three exams and one final so make sure you pay attention and do well. As long as you show up to class, participate, and do the practice problems, you'll be fine!
EASY CLASS. Literally just consists of weekly quizzes and 3 exams, the last of which is your final but is just a normal chapter test. We actually finished early, no work for the last month. EVERYTHING is open note, says right in the syllabus. You should still study though, because some questions are pretty specific. Lectures are all pre-recorded.
He does a quiz over each chapter and spends about 3-4 days on it and then tests. it is a hard class, but he tries to make sure you know what is going on, also allows you a cheat sheet for each test.
The class/material are pretty hard so make sure to show up to the lectures. He goes over the content and makes it easy to understand. He also allows a cheat sheet on every exam, has a curve for almost all the exams and drops the lowest one at the end of the course! Just make sure to actually study for the exams and understand the content.
If you struggle with statistics or are new to the material, I would find another professor. Lectures come straight from book. Graded by only 8 tests (best 7) and a final (non-cumulative). He allows you to use an 8x11 for formulas and a TI84 calculator. Otherwise, if you read the textbook thoroughly and are math savvy, this class is a breeze.
Professor Miller was alright, however, as I had already taken STAT1401, many of the concepts were repeated, and I just read the book instead of going to lecture. You are allowed to use an entire page of notes for the exam, which made them quite easy. I showed up for the last bit of class for the Excel instructions, and it was quite helpful.
BY FAR THE EASIEST CLASS! Everything is provided for you and all you have to do is study, watch videos and take your quizzes. There's 3 exams and each module comes with a study guide question. At the end of the class your lowest quiz and exam grade gets dropped, so If you complete everything its an easy A.
Be prepared for the lectures and make sure you study the book, I end up using a tutor to help me since it was a online course, and with that additional understanding I was able to adjust to the class. Test are tough but very fair, the instructor is easy to communicate with and he is very understanding and quick to respond.
Great guy. Took him online and he worked well with understanding situations. His material is well covered and if you watch his lectures you won't even really have to read. Do take notes. You will have all lockdown browser quizzes but can use notes. Highly recommend.
Get prepared not to hear this man at all. He is unfortunately very old and VERY traditional. Writes everything on white board, hard to stay on track, 4 in-person tests on scantrons and that's IT. He drops the lowest test, but be prepared to have to use the textbook 24/7 to learn/study. I would prefer anyone else.
This is a very easy class. Weekly quizzes are the only things graded. However the quizzes are very easy especially is you use your resources. Beware it is lockdown browser with camera.
Tom Miller is a great professor, old school! However, if you do not go to class, you will get lost! Only grades are exams, and he drops the lowest. He allows a full 8.5x11, front and back on all exams. Exams are NOT cumulative. Very easy A!!! The only thing online is grades and the textbook, which I didn't use and got 100's on the first 2 exams.
Looking at the reviews, I felt confident about adding this class! Dont. He does not respond to any email, his tests are almost 3 hours long, if you dont come to class you will fail. Only 4 test grades for the entire gradebook so goodluck!
DONT TAKE HIM.
Miller mainly focuses on statistics concepts over math, since you can use the formulas for the calculations. 8 chapter tests + 1 non-cumulative 9th chapter exam as the final. Generous grading curve as a buffer. If you show up to class and pay attention, you will thrive. Miller is happy to go into conceptual questions, so curiosity is encouraged.
I never spoke to him, so I don't know how accurate my opinion of him is. I didn't think he was very helpful. I emailed him once about YouScience and he told me to email this other department that deals with that and they told me to go back to him... so yeah not super helpful. The lectures were videos of another professor teaching, which was fine.
Do not take this professor if you are someone who needs clarification. He does not respond to emails and you cannot see what you did wrong on past tests. His lectures are him (or AI) just reading word for word off of each slide and there is no further explanation. His test questions are different from the lectures as well as the book.
There are only 9 tests all semester, he replaces your lowest with your highest. He doesn't explain the material.
This professor does not respond to emails but he is probably the easiest to take out of all the other professors.
Emailing this professor was frustrating, if you sent more than one question in an email he would choose one to answer and ignore the rest. "Lectures" were him reading a PowerPoint and not explaining anything. Only saving grace was that each test was over a single chapter. Honestly don't recommend, had to teach myself the material from the book.
Online class was composed of 9 tests. Each over a single chapter. Emailing him with more than a single question will get you a response to exactly one of them. "Lectures" are reading word for word PowerPoints while explaining nothing. Had to teach myself the material from the book. Do not recommend if you don't want to teach yourself.
I took him in person, he was very old school white boards and packets. I saw a review about him before I took him saying it was easy to lose track during his lectures, they're very monotone but that's his style. Only graded by 4 tests and a final, and he'll replace your lowest test with your highest one instead. Overall ez class but boring lectures
This professor does not let you see what you missed on exams so figuring out where you are going wrong is extremely difficult. He sometimes will not respond to an email. This guy got paid to read a powerpoint this semester, and he probably recorded it semesters ago. Word for word on a powerpoint is not how math should be taught. Worst KSU Prof.
Don't take him. His lectures and assigned practice problems are completely different than what you are tested on. 8 tests is what you are graded on. Take anyone else
The professor's lectures can be a bit boring as he is basically reading from notes he puts on the overhead. There are four tests and the final. The final is not cumulative. One of the four tests can be dropped and the highest one counts double. There is 10% extra credit each test. He does not review prior to the test.
While attendance isn't mandatory he doesn't post the notes online so you have to show up. If you do miss any days you can collect the notes though so it's not too bad. You're only graded on tests but if you show up to class most of the time the tests are easy. He lets you use a full page of notes on the test and his lectures are very easy to follow
