Wow! What an awesome professor! I thought Professor Mowry could be hard at times, but he taught me a lot and I actually developed an appreciation for Statistics by the end of the term.. I definitely recommend him.
Definitely a hard class, but he's an excellent teacher with an easy going sense of humor.
Mowry is definately a top notch mathematics instructor here. What I remember about him is that he is very linear in the sense that he will take you from point A to point B and beyond. Just apply yourself and your in!
An outstanding statistics teacher.

This class was easy for me but i had already taken calculus in high school. hes good teacher, actually proves theorems and cares about his job, never misses a day of class. take him hes good, but the class was kinda boring for me because i knew the material
my math teacher was so bad i had to get tutoring from Tom. In one or two meetings at the math lab he helped my grade jump 20 points. The man is a thorough explainer of tough issues. NO DOUBT take his Statistics class. I wish I had
An amazing teacher! I've never learned so much math before in my life. 5 exams, 20 mandatory homeworks (usually only 10 problems). He drops 1 of each. Doesn't make you memorize formulas. Amazing clarity and explanations. I hate math but loved his class! I hear he studied with Sir Isaac Newton. Highly recommended for anyone.
Great guy, very clear explanations. Very few homework assignments. Great class. If you want Statistics to be painless take this class.
Mr. Mowry is the greatest math teacher I've ever had. His explanations are very clear and thorough, and he's very helpful and encouraging. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM for Statistics! Like the other reviewer said, Mr. Mowry makes stats as painless as possible. He also wears platforms,an earring, and has bleached tips. Need I say more!?! Take his class!!!
Stat is not for everyone but if you have to take it Mowry is is good teacher to teach it. 20 hw, 5 tests(drops lowest), a project and a cumulative final he gives study guides out and makes himself available for students needing help the tests can be hard and he will take points for little BS things good teacher all and all. doesnt curve tests
This professor really knows and loves what he teaches. Calculus II is a hard material so it does not matter how good the professor is if you don't put effort for this course you won't get a good grade. He will answer all your questions and also even attendance is not mandatory try to go to his lectures since it is very useful.
Mowry is a terrific teacher, extremely helpful and genuinely cares about his students well-being. If you need to take a math course, jump on his if he has room - his classes fill quickly for a good reason
He definitely explains things well. He shows you "magic buttons" on your calc. so you don't have to memorize formulas. He made stats seem easier than it was. Downfall: he is very particular about his grading. He wants everything a certain way. He is not very helpful after class, one on one. He almost laughs if he thinks your question is stupid
I have always been terrible at math, and I took Stat in High School and did terrible. With Tom he explains everything super well, and the tests are super straight forward. You learn everything that is on the test, he doesn't make the test harder! Homework is due once a week, and is super easy! I learned so much, and it's actually interesting!
Mowry is crystal clear on explaining stuff, however the tests are freaking inhumanly hard. He picks the most obscure questions he can and puts it on the exam. He is a good teacher, but he doesn't teach you how to do those problems. So when you take the test, you're pretty much crap outta luck. (unless you're a math prodigy)
He is a wonderful instructor, and very helpful. You know from the moment you step in that you're in the right place. He is very organized and has wonderful lectures. Unfortunately sometimes it is not enough because the tests are very hard.
Mr. Mowry is an excellent teacher. He goes over everything very well, and makes problems look easy. He often works in math lab, and is very helpful during that time as well as office hours. However, his tests and grading was the hardest I've ever personally dealt with.
I would go as far as to say that Mr. Mowry is the best teacher at DVC. I had NO interest in stats, only taking it as a required class, but he makes statistics enjoyable with his sense of humor and enthusiasm for math. Plus one of few teachers that utilizes calculator functions which save your behind on tests.
AMAZING teacher! Goes out of his way to help students, works in the math lab a lot, office ours, and sometimes more. Is every easy going and knows a lot about what he is teaching. Missing class can be very bad because there is a new topic every day. Plan to take more classes with him if i need more math. Made me like Stats!
Great teacher!! Nerdy sense of humor but definitely dedicated to the world of math. DO NOT miss a day if you can help it. He goes over so much material in a day you will feel like you missed a week. Test were very complex, live by the study guide and make great use of the math lab. Certain amount of hours by the end of the semester = extra credit!
Mr. Mowry definitely is the best teach I've ever had!
The best teacher at DVC hands down. Probably one of best teachers anywhere. The world needs more people like him. Made a hard class seem easy.
Took him for 294. Initially I hated it because it's math but he made it so I enjoy math for the first time in my life. It is still surreal to think I enjoy math now.
Mr. Mowry is an AMAZING professor. I was so nervous about taking Statistics (Math 142), but his lectures are so helpful! He was clear, answered questions, and was always there to help if you needed it. TAKE HIM!
Half of the class dropped the class. It was hard.
he might be good for 142 or 292 and stuff but for 192... nope. he teaches very very very fast and there are a lot webassign homework so be ready to study really really hard.
Mr. Mowry is a phenomenal math teacher. I don't think i have ever had a teacher who is more passionate then him. His lectures are very clear, he offers help in the math lab, and will make sure that you get your moneys worth for the class. I don't recommend this class if you are looking for an easy A since he assigns a ridiculous amount of HW.
Great professor! His teaching is very clear. Good at teaching and very helpful. He's one of the best math professors in my life. I seldom speak in class but after or out of class, he's always there to help. Got pretty much everything I want in a prof. So glad to learn that he's going on with this 192 class. ie. 193 next semester and then 292 etc.
I ended up dropping this course with a W. I took stats with Mowry, and math just is not my thing. I found him to be a GREAT teacher, I just couldn't handle the course load this semester. This class is hard. He is a tough grader and there is a lot of work. Take him if you are a good test taker and don't miss class because you WILL fail.
very hard. can say no more
calc 1 is not easy. The pace of this class was very fast. mowry is a great teacheris surely there for you, however, if math isn't your best subject make sure you read the text before class, do all the problems, live in the math lab, ect. expect a lot of hw. the optional hw will appear on the tests so do that. he's a cool guy. DEF NOT an easy A.
Very good professor; warning, even if math isn't your toughest subject, expect statistics to be harder than you thought. I was able to get an A with a LOT of work. To succeed, you must go to class, keep up very well with online homework, and study hard for each test. Get extra credit if you go to math lab. Highly recommend him.
Lecturesteachinggreat. The hw&material was so dense that it will require A LOT of work, and a 100x more if you think math isn't your best subject. Hardest class Ive ever taken but he's a great teacher and very helpful. If you must, read the chapters before class, do ALL non-requiredrequired hw, office hrs, etc. very hard to keep up so b prepared
He is a really good teacher, there is no denying that. The issue is he is an awfully hard grader, and you really have to work really hard to pass this class. If you are not a hard worker or extremely dedicated, do not take this class.
Good lecture but super fast. A lot of homework. Just not a good idea to take him.
Great guy, he 's very passionate about his class but his exams are hard. If you have a learning disability do not take him, he goes too fast.
His class lectures makes the topics easy to understand, but when you go home and try to do the hw, it's really hard. The exams are alright, but you aren't allowed little cheat sheets like other classes are. He's also fast-paced. Lectures up to 2 days before the exam. Overall it's easy but you gotta work really hard to get an A.
He explains things very well!!! His lectures are easy to follow and makes it seem very simple. Then you take the test and he takes points off on every little mistake. Like rounding wrong or not giving a thorough enough answer.
He teaches the intro to the chapter from the textbook, the bit you could have read at home, and does it very well. However, he gives the most computationally intensive problems on tests, there are always tricks in them and they require elaborate knowledge of algebraic manipulation. He is a brutal grader and has no problem failing the whole class.
He's a nice guy, however success in his class is contingent upon being a phenomenal test taker. He is also substantially more difficult than other Calc 3 professors.
His lectures are thorough, and if you have the notes (he uploads them onto d2l) you won't need to read the book. Homework is done on webassign and you get access to the ebook, so don't buy the book. His test are a combination of questions straight from the hw and questions from the optional hw --which can be solved even without doing the extra hw
He's ok, his lectures are really long but his notes are good. He color codes his notes and if you take nice notes he might give you extra credit. He does go over around 2 or 3 sections a day if you take him for 2 days only. His homework is online and usually put them up late, which is annoying. There is A LOT of work.
He's a cool teacher. Rushes a lot.
Professor Mowry is an excellent math teacher and if you really intend on trying to understand statistics, he can help you get there. He is also very good at explaining things, and never pulls numbers or concepts out of thin air. Weirdly enough, i never expected to luagh in a math class, but this guy is actually quite funny!
Most people said his class' hard, and I think he is, sometimes. However, for me his class is just so enjoyable, even though the material is hard itself. He teaches extremely clear and well, including schedule of that day! He's really nice and funny. The best math professor I've ever had. Highly recommended for those want to learn math well.
On the first day of the class, he said that he is going to give us some extra credit for note takers, so I did it like every single day. However what ended up happening is "He did not give me any credits at all". I got 89.3%, but there was no E.C for my notebook showing my freaking work. Ruined my life. Good bye Berkeley :)
want A? take him
He is such a good teacher. I understand all of what he says. He is always on time and always prepared.
I've taken 11 math classes at DVC and I can tell you that Mowry is the best teacher i've had, hands down. His lectures are excellent and his whiteboard skills are the best I've ever seen. Diff eq is a hard class but Mowry gives you all the tools you need to do well in the class. Hw (webassign) 15%, 5 tests for 60%, lowest test dropped, final 25%.
Great professor. Made Calculus understandable. Would definitely take again. (Go to the Math Lab for private 1 on 1 tutoring the days he's there!)
He's a tough grader, but is more than willing to help you out. You take 5 tests throughout the semester and he drops your lowest score. There is opportunity for EC both on tests and on other things. He explains everything very thoroughly and he knows what he is doing/talking about.
Took professor Mowry for Math 193. Solid choice. Veru experience and knowledgeable
Credible Review: Mowry is by far the best stats teacher at DVC, believe me I took stats with three different professors. I would even go as far as saying that Mowry is the best math teacher I've ever had. Although he is particular about certain rules, such as 3sigfig and showing work, he teaches you stats in a way that is easy to understand!
Well even though I am barely passing, I can't blame on him. He provides more to his students than any other math prof I have has. He's easy to understand but I have notice that he covers more than necessary for the course so he sets the bar high. Which is good cus' it prepares you for the next class but bad because its HARD!
Awesome professor and the subject was super easy. Never needed the book once. Homework was super easy and used MyStatLab which was better than WebAssign. Lecture was simple, cant really pass if you dont go.
I had Mowry for Math 292 and it was a good class. If you show up to class and take the time to do all the homework you will do fine in the class.
Mowry is the man! He teaches a tough class but teaches very well. Very informative professor.
This is an exceptional math teacher. He is passionate and very helpful. Calculus is a difficult subject for me, but he helped me get through it. He is available during office hours, but he often changes the times due to department meetings. We had four midterms, one final, and online homework. There is recommended homework that you should do.
if you ask him a question (esp. if its past lessons) he makes you feel dumb with his comments& doesn't answer them. I'm not the only one who feels this way. he's fast pace w/ lessons & someone like me needs extra time to understand the criteria. no cheat sheets allowed on any test btw, so you better have good memory
Mr. Mowry is the only calc teacher I've had, but I have no doubt he'll be my favorite math teacher throughout college. He's an amazing teacher, always tries to hep students understand the material. I'm definitely going to take him for all of my math classes that I can at dvc. 10/10 recommend that you take Mr. Mowry if your'e going to take calc.
Mowry is a great teacher! I often emailed him asking questions about homework, and he was always very clear and helpful. He genuinely cares about having his students understand the criteria. I would definitely recommend him to anyone who is taking calculus for the first time.
Good teacher, his tests are just way too hard, especially compared to other calc teachers. His tests just seemed to be the hardest version of every problem.
Mowry is a phenomenal teacher, he explains the material well by breaking down problems to the very basics. Although his tests can be challenging, studying for the tests thoroughly can make a world of difference. He honestly cares about everyone's well being and if you go to his office hours he will gladly help you, good teacher but tough in tests.
Professor Mowry is great, but don't expect his class to be easy. I truly respect him as a teacher. You would think at the community college level that the classes you take would be easier, but I have to disagree. Mowry makes you work hard for your grade. No notes used on any exam, so make sure to really understand the concepts. Overall caring :)
He's a good professor, teaches well and cares about students. Accessible outside of class. Do the supplementary problems! Study well because the tests are hard, he just makes you work for the A, but is more than willing to help you if you need it. There is extra credit. Show up to class and take the class seriously and you'll do fine.
He is very organized and very accessible. His lectures are on the fast side, so i use his office hours a lot. I've never had to work so hard before, but it's worth it. I'm pretty sure I will get an A and I definitely want to take Calc3 with Mowry if I can.
The material is difficult but his lectures are really good. If you go to class and use his office hours you will do okay.
Your graded on homework, exams and a statistics project. The exams are hard but doable if you study. His study guides are excellent.
The material is really hard. You have to work for your grade and Mowry helps. He gives review sheets for exams and his lectures are super clear.
you have to do a project but its not hard. he gives you programs on calculator to use which makes the exams easy.
His tests are hard. If you study you an do well. Material is difficult but his explanation are really clear. I couldn't get an A without his lectures.
The course was way easier than I thought it would be. mowry makes everything seem so straight forward and he's funny.
Hes amazing an amazing teacher. The only downside is that his tests are extremely hard, therefore you have to study a butt load before an exam. Theres 4 exams in total plus a final exam, drops the lowest one. Hes an extremely tough grader. The littlest mistake xould cost you a few points. But other than that, i suggest taking him. Amazing guy.
He's an amazing professor, without a doubt. His lectures are straightforward and really easy to understand. There's a good amount of hw, but they're all due a couple weeks after being assigned. The only thing that you should be wary of is his exams. They're SUPER hard. Yes, he gives you credit, but if you get the wrong answer, then its game over.
You have to do a project but it isn't hard. He passes out an attendance sheet. His explanations were the best i ever heard. This was my second time taking Statistics.
He is a hard professor, this is not an easy class, so be warned. Knows his stuff, very clear and comprehensive lectures, provides all the help you need, you just need to ask. His homework is easy if you pay attention and take notes from the textbook. Exams are nightmares though. Do the recommended and required hw if you want to pass.
Love professor Mowry. Solid, focused lectures that really help you get the material, lots of homework but its not that bad compared to others. Tests are extremely difficult, so I recommend doing the recommended homework. Hes smart, funny, caring, lots of office hours, solid choice. Only complaint is few practice problems in class, only examples.
His tests are difficult and kinda challenge, so you should be ready to practice most of the recommended homeworks. He knows how to teach students and gives them funny jokes during the lecture. Overall, he is a good professor in dvc.
I only took this course because I had to. Mowry made it interesting. I won't continue in the field but at least I learned alot. His tests are hard. His study guides are invaluable and he is a cool dude.
One of the best math professors at DVC. He is entertaining and organizes his lectures well. The exams are not easy or hard, but one small mistake from the beginning of the problem will collapse the rest, losing chunks of points. However, you will manage this class as long as you attend all his lectures and do the homework, so you will not struggle.
His teaching technique is very good; he explains everything clearly. He might be fast at times but still you'll be able to understand what he is trying to say. Exams are hard but if you really do your part and study hard for it, you'll pass.
As my friend told me, "Mowry is the embodiment of DVC." This man is kind-hearted and highly qualified. Although I dropped his class, I have without a doubt learned so much from this professor. He is very approachable and very patient. DO HIS RECOMMENDED HOMEWORK! DO THEM ALL AND GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS! Besides, he told me he doesn't bite.
Love professor Mowry. Wish I could take him for DiffEQ but oh well. Great lectures, derives everything fairly well, and can answer questions without needing to look at his sheets or anything. He clearly knows his stuff extremely well, and can teach it to anyone.
Make sure you go to class. You won't regret it. His lectures are super clear. His tests are hard but I still got an A. I recommend him.
He really knows his stuff. His lectures are so clear. I recommend him but you have to study for his exams.
The best part of the course is him. He gives great lectures and helps you outside of class.
Amazing. It's math so you should know what that means (No athlete is good by just WATCHING others play). Gives textbook problems on exams, so plug and chug, It's great. Understandable good lectures, he wears overalls, exams are literally what you actually learn in HW, & caring. Gives non-mandatory textbook HW and mandatory online HW (Web-assign).
One of the best Math prof. at DVC. The exam comes from what you have learned in HW questions. The lecture was amazing and he organized it very well. I learned a lot from his class.
He gives great lectures. I like his teaching style.
Great course. Straightforward lectures. Makes it seem easy.
Be prepared to study. The course is hard but Mowry will get you through it. I enjoyed it.
He gives very clear explanations. If you do the hw and keep up you'll do find on the exams. I recommend him.
The course is amazing. You really learn alot. I recommend Mowry for any calculus course.
He really knows his stuff and he teaches well.
If you're the average student that doesn't understand math the first time around and you don't have the time or the willpower to put in hours of work then don't take this class. He is a tough grader, his tests are incredibly difficult, he goes super fast in lecture, and assigns a lot of homework.
WARNING: He teaches you how to complete a problem, he does NOT teach you how to understand it. I cannot work with that style, and I know many others cannot either. He takes pride in being at DVC 30 years and is not looking to improve his teaching style. He's funny and is experienced, but note one student flunked an exam for poor handwriting. Beware
Hardest class ever in my life.
Professor Mowry is AWESOME! He gives great feedback when you ask him questions. He respects all of his students and is understanding of everyone's needs. What I like most about him is he is very generous on giving students extra time on tests. He would often give 20-25 extra min after the class period has ended. Overall, great guy highly recommend.
Again, rating this Prof. He is amazing, I would take him from calc 1 all the way up to Diff. e .Q's if i wasn't transferring. I think it's extremely important to get the concepts to pass the class, so read the book! (It's ok, i used to be a slacker; anyone can change). If you do that, or atleast a mix, then it helps. People drop though, so do good!
Awesome guy. He really prepares you.
His lectures are crystal clear and well organized. What more can you ask for a difficult subject?
I could have better but that's my fault. Do your homework and you'll be prepared. Mowry gives really good and interesting lectures. His homeworks are really organized.
it's ok but boring. His exams are from the textbook and if you study, no obstacle to get A.
Careful when taking, He doesnt allow notecards. He chooses the hardest questions for his tests and there is no exact way to study. He is a difficult grader and you most likely end up like the other 19 kids to drop before test 3.
Nice professor but hard class. If math is not your subject avoid taking him. he doesn't give practice tests and does not allow any kind of formula sheet during tests which makes the tests super hard to pass.
A lot of online homeworks. Critical grader. Easy to loose points
I dont understand how this teacher has such a high rating. If youre the kind of person who struggles in math, this teacher is not for you. He gives online homework and on top of that, text book homework which involves a lot of questions. He doesnt give any sort of study guide and leaves out material that he said would be on the exam.
DO NOT TAKE HIM! Mowry seemed great in the beginning. As the semester goes on, he starts to care less and less about teaching, and is more focused on writing material on the board, expecting us to know what's going on. He assigns an unreasonable amount of homework and the homework doesn't match his lecture. Also, his midterms are crazy difficult.
His exams are the same for every semester, the exact same. It's important for him to stick to his teaching plan, no matter what.
His midterms are extremely difficult. He offers extra credit on exams and he requires students to buy WebAssign codes for homework, which costs around $80. All he has been doing since quarantine is to upload pdfs of his notes. No live lectures. So don't take him if you aren't good at math and need live lectures.
I took Tom for both Math192 and 193, he is the best math professor I have ever had. He cares about his students and has been so supportive during the epidemic. Most of the exam questions are from homework or textbook. If you show up to class and do the homework, then you are guaranteed a good grade.
Extremely hard grader. Throughout quarantine all he did was upload PDFs of his notes and expected us to grasp everything. When I sent e-mails he failed to get back to me on several occasions. Ended up having to drop the class because of his lack of teaching. Do not take him!!
I was unbelievable lucky to have Mr. Mowry. If you can keep up with him you will gain incredible skill. His lectures are fast paced. He does the same thing everyday, every month, every year. his teaching is so methodical its insane. You have to do the work and you will be better off
Do not take Prof. Mowry's class. His lectures are not helpful, and goes on and on proving things that will never show up on the exams. His exams are absurdly difficult and do not at all resemble anything from class. The few students who got A's in his class never even showed up for lecture, they just taught themselves.
Prof. Mowry is one of the best math professor! He knows well about the materials. He explains everything clearly in class. He is super organized and kind. If you missed a class. Don't worry, he posts student's note after every lecture. Go to the lecture! His lecture is awesome! 4 midterms,1 final. All the questions are similar to in-class examples
Mr. Mowry is a nice and kind person. He is patient with every student and is willing to answer every single question of us. His lectures are very clear. He will go through everything with us before the test, and we have a clear study guide for every test.
Professor Mowry is super understanding and put together. He has all of the lessons and lessons posted for you, meaning that you always have the material to review. The only downside is that his grading system is quite harsh, which is alright. This was a hard class to be honest since it was just so much work and calculator work that you had to recal
While Prof. Mowry is not a bad person, he is not a very good prof. His lectures are impossible to follow, and his exams are exponentially more difficult than the homework. Most of the people who got A's in his class never even attended lecture.
Thomas is an amazing professor, he posts weekly handouts which makes learning easy. There is a total of 30 homeworks, 4 tests and 1 final exam throughout the semester. However, this class is recommended for someone who has some understanding about derivation as he goes through the materials pretty fast. In addition, he is also really supportive!
Professor Mowry teaches clearly and effectively. He is easily accessible outside of class. Grade was 60% 4 midterms, 25% final, 15% homework (a WebAssign assignment for each section). Tough-ish tests, about 80% average score. He told us quite clearly what sorts of questions we'd get. Great prof, Highly recommended!
Took Professor Mowry's class for Spring 2021. Coursework: 34 Webassign homeworks (15%), 4 tests (60%), 1 final exam (25%). The coursework is relatively light. The class requires webassign which costs some money. He also post notes which makes learning easy. Lastly, tests are on-par and sometimes easier than the homeworks given.
The entire SP'21 semester all he did was read & explain pre-written notes. He never worked problems by writing down ex's live on zoom. This made learning differential equations much harder. He gives 4 long midterms plus a final & provides 8 hours to do each one. I would recommend taking this class in person when it's available.
If you aren't some math genius prepare to spend 30 hours a week doing homework and studying for just this class, only to fail the exams anyway. BTW exams are 60% of your grade.
Mowry is a really goos professor. He has a good way of explaining the topics so they are easier to understand. Attendance is not mandatory but it is necessary to pass because the concepts are difficult. If you find math difficult, the course will obviously be hard but Mowry is good at his job and has a lot of experience. Would definitely recommend.
Gives 1% extra credit for going to the Math lab for 40 hours in a semester. Really good teacher, helps a lot during class and will help during his office hours. You can miss a class, but if you are not great at math, you might want to go to his office hours for help. Posts the lectures for each day online incase you miss it. Long classes get breaks
Professor Mowry is there for you and wishes for you to succeed. He publishes lecture notes on Canvas so you could see what you may have missed or will be taught. He has "required" (Webassign) and "recommended" hw. If you have time, do the recommended hw because he picks those hw questions for exams. He also responds fairly quickly with emails.
I am not a math major, so I found this class incredibly difficult, but if you're willing to dedicate the time to studying and doing hw, you should be able to make it. A majority of the class dropped before the semester was over so be aware of that. There's a lot of work to do outside of class at the start of the semester, but it eases up later on.
Solid teacher with lectures that really teach you how to do Calculus from the ground up and explain everything he is doing in his lectures. HW consists of WebAssign that is due every couple of weeks. He is generous in giving out extensions to people who need a little extra time to finish their homework.
Mowry is a great teacher who gives great lectures and answers any of your questions. Very helpful and caring. WebAssign is used for homework and can take a while to complete. No quizzes, 4 exams, and 1 final exam. However, he rigs each test with problems not regularly practiced or only seen once, so you are basically screwed for 1/3 of each exam.
Professor Mowry is a good professor and is pretty good at teaching. However, he assigns a ton of homework and he makes very long exams. His statistics final exam took me 5 and a half hours to complete and it was more than 10 pages long. That seems really excessive for an Elementary Statistics final exam. Also, pretty nice guy, in general!
Prof Mowry is very passionate about the class and has a very good way of explaining things. Showing up to class is important for understanding the content but is not required. Lecture notes can be found online, and uses webassign, will need to purchase the access code for that. Homework is online, I found the exams on the harder side.
Great professor, enthusiastic, knows what he's teaching. The notes for each lecture is on canvas, so you can miss class and still see what we learned; actually attending class does make it a lot easier to understand the material tho. The class was a little difficult, but that was due to the material. Do the homework and study and you'll be fine.
If you're a STEM student, Prof Mowry's class is the only one to take. If you're planning on ever polishing your math skills or using those skills in the future, his class is perfect. However, if you're bad at math or are just simply uninterested, then take an easier professor because you will be left miles behind.
Tom Mowry test is way harder than his lecture and homework, in total he has 5 test where most professor only has 4 test. TEST HEAVY
amazing!
If you are strong in math take him since understanding him needs a few math skills. 4 midterms (60%), final (20%), and homework the week before the exam (15%). 1% extra credit for going to math lab for 20 hours. Needs a little bit of self-study and notes are available online.
He is a good choice for stem students, all exam questions come from hw, caring and skilled professor. I like his lecture.
Tests are very often and difficult but he is a good teacher. He explains things very well and posts all the notes on canvas! Not an easy class but definitely passable!
He's a cool guy, but if you're not a fan of math, try someone else. Notes were online which was nice, but it was the same as reading the book. Allows unlimited HW extensions. Most people in my section dropped the class. Didn't feel like examples/HW scaled up in difficulty, everything was just hard. I retook the class with another prof & got an A
Loved him so much that I took him again the next semester. So sad he retired, he really loved his students and helped a lot at office hours.
Professor Mowry is an engaging lecturer who makes challenging material accessible. The WebAssign homework is time-consuming, but the posted notes are helpful. For study prep, I found Unstuck AI and other resources like ChatGPT useful. Overall, a rewarding class if you're willing to put in the work.
