lots of fun, interesting material, enjoyed the class
Hilarious man, but sometimes kind of spacey. I enjoyed both classes though.
What a nut job but hysterical! I love this guy, take him it's an experience!

awesome teacher
My God, Tom is a hell of a guy, an experience in the making from the moment you sign up for his class, he helped me a lot and I've never been more glad to see a teacher everyday.
One of the greatest professors ever. He really cares about his students and about teaching in general. If you leave Elon without taking a class with this guy you really have missed out.
Great professor. His class was easily one of the best classes I've had at Elon. Rather than just rattling off what you need to know, he makes you do off the wall assignments which are always a challenge, but are fun. Really a great professor.
"Tommy Boy" A great teacher. He makes class fun and, it almost seems as though your learning. Wierd right?
AMAZING! If you ever have the opportunity to take his study abroad, DO IT! By far the best experience I've had at Elon. I learned more than I ever thought I could in a month and actually enjoyed it!
Freakin' awesome prof., very entertaining, and the subject matter is very interesting especially if you like Germany. I admit that he's a bit strange, but his classes rock!!
I love Thomas Nelson! What else can I say? He is so amusing and makes the material interesting. Cares about the success of his students and is just a great guy over all.
tom is so enthusiastic that you cant help but enjoy being in his presence. he made winter term amazing
Everyone should take Tom for Global! He's a madman, and the course rules!
I LOVE TOM! He is the most amazing teacher, and he calls his students "lieblings" (German for "darlings"). If you never want to be bored in class, take ANYTHING taught by him. The fun never ends when Tom is around.
I have only had Tom on the World War I/Great War Winter Term course, but I must say he was fantastic. He is energetic and knows what he is talking about. He has a genuine interest in his students.
Honestly the best teacher I have ever had. Not like any other global class at Elon, fun class, but it does involve a good amount of writing. I found myself reciting things from his class even over the summer. Don't leave w/o taking a class with him!
awesome guy, ive never even had a class with him but he knows my name and is always glad to see you. Hes always running around doing something and is just a nice man.
Nicest guy you wil meet. There is never any homework, no tests, no textbook. Basically gives you a project to fil each week, alot of class time to do it, and even though they are always due in a week, you can turn it in weeks later with no penalty.
Tom is one of my favorite professors! I would take more classes with him if I could. He is very clear about what he wants in the papers, and is understanding when they are not on time. He wants you to understand what he is teaching, very helpful. No model UN! Take his class!!
Greatest teacher ever. Extremely understanding and reasonable. Short papers, no tests. Don't have to deal with Model UN. Overall a fun class. Cultures Cross-Pollinate for Better or for Worse. Memorize that phrase!!
BEST PROFESSOR AT ELON. Take him any opportunity you get.... nicest guy in the world, a real realist.
Best professor. Hands down. I wish I was his kid because he's funny, he's old school and awesome all at the same time. Take him before you leave this school
Tom's the best! He's very concerned about his freshmen, and makes the material easy and interesting. Definately take a course of his. He's humorous, intelligent, and realistic about assignments and deadlines. Cultures cross-pollinate for better or for worse!
Tom is truly an amazing person. He is very passionate about the subject and wants you to be educated in all areas of life. His class is very interesting and fun. He likes to swear! I never dreaded his class.. i heart tom alot.. YAY TOM NELSON
tom is the man....fun class, real laid back, you can pass in assingments months late and its no sweat, you still get full credit. he gives you every possible chance to do well....easy B class at worst
Tom Nelson- Easy teacher - very clear - funny - easy with the workload - nice - Take his Class!!!
took three classes with tom. had him first semester at elon. best guy i've ever met. amazing teacher. really wants you to learn. class is always fun even if its an 8 am i would take him over any other teacher. you will never forget a class you take with tom nelson. really down to earth!!!
He's great, lotsa essays, 2 page, no big, very nice and understanding, has attendance policy- but u can still miss three classes.
Tom is possibly the coolest professor ever. I absolutely loved him!
Amazing teacher. Always keeps you interested. Best professor Ive had so far at Elon.
Tom's classes are low-pressure and fun. He's probably the coolest prof I had at Elon. He's funny as hell and he loves to bust on his students, just to make sure no one's taking themselves too seriously. Take him if you like learning between laughs!

I went with Tom to Paris, Germany and Belgium to learn about WWI, he took us to where he courted his wife and some of his favorite bars in Heidleberg (spelling) Germany. He is a great teacher that helps you learn but makes it fun at the same time.
Tom Nelson is the man! I had him for Global and the class is not hard at all. You do have to write a paper almost every week (only 2pgs...and double spaced) but there not hard at all and he doesnt really care if there a little shorter than 2pgs. He has a good teaching style and makes the topic interesting..even at 8am. I definitely recommend him!
If you're an Elon com major, you have to take Tom. The class isn't easy with a a video each week, but he knows it. Very flexible, no late penelties, and recognizes when you work hard and will call you out when your video is just a ****en party scene. He doesn't know the technology, so you're on your own with that.
what a great teacher, makes class interesting and really knows his stuff
Tom is the best teacher I have had at Elon. He cares about his students and teaches the material in ways that you can relate to. He's an all around great guy.
Tom is the best teacher I have had at Elon. His classes are interesting and so much fun. Tom tells it like it is and treats all of his students as friends. You HAVE to take one of his classes before you graduate!!!
Tom is a really fun guy. He'll make Global interesting right from the get-go. I have him for an 8 AM and am always there ready to learn. You can arrive as late as you want, as long as you learn the information. You need to really pay attention for your weekly papers. Overall, my best teacher at Elon thus far.
Tom was my favorite professor while at Elon. If you get to go over to his house, go. It's full of junk he's collected while working in the business all over the world. The only thing is, he doens't know the technology so you have to do that by yourself. But he's clear on what kinds of projects he wants. Great guy!
Tom is the most fun teacher I had while at Elon. He was always there for guidence with anything, not just classwork. I always felt I could go to him with questions about class, career, or life in general. I took every class Tom offered while at Elon and learned new things about journalism and life each time.
GREAT global teacher. would recommend him to anyone even for an 8 am. He is so interesting and even though it's nearly impossible to get an A in the class, you can easily get a B. No tests, quizzes, final, or model UN- just 2 page double-spaced papers which are pretty easy. Favorite professor at Elon- he is AWESOME.
I'd definitely recommend him for Global. He's kind of crazy and it takes a while to get used to him, but he takes an interesting approach to the class. There are no exams of any sort, just a 2 page paper each week.
I love Tom, he's my FAVORITE. he is such a good professor-always makes the material interesting. Never talks down to his students or treats us like inferiors. He tells you what he wants from you&doesn't sugarcoat anything, but he is always nice and respectful about it. Very very friendly, and just an all around GREAT teacher.
THE BEST PROFESSOR I'VE HAD! Great guy, loves his students and his subject. Perfect 8am because he is very aware of how tough it is to be studious at that time and tries to make class as interesting and compelling as possible. Expect one manageable paper a week. Really Great!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Down to earth, understanding, humorous. Not the easiest class you will take, but it's good to get a taste of the variety of professors you will come in contact with. One thing to look out for: He's way liberal, so his opinons are definitely skewed. Otherwise, GREAT GUY!! LOVE HIM!
There aren't many professors who can give as much work as he does and still have the class love him. We had a video per week to do, but you'll learn quickly that it isn't as bad as it sounds. I can't wait to take another class with him.
Nelson was wild and crazy but kept you entertained. He was honest with how your speech went, but understood If you had a bad day, and would hold back. He really does want you to learn. He cannot brainstorm a clear speech topic, but is generally straightforward with what to include. Never gives A's though.
GET TOM FOR GLOBAL! he is really interesting, and the stuff is interesting, even though i thought that this class would be horrible. You can be as late as you need, and papers can be late. Only a paper every 2 or 3 weeks. Energetic for an 8AM to keep students awake
Tom Nelson is the man. Period. Global was the best class I've taken at Elon and it was an 8 AM. If you are able to take his class, do it. No questions asked.
Tom is a wonderful teacher. His quizzes are very easy and you have to recite a speech a week in his public speaking class. Also, he tells you exactly what you need to do in order to pass with a decent grade. If your looking for an A you really have to show him your improving. B+ is what he gives everyone if you put the work in. He's really funny!!!!

It was a blast having Tom Nelson as a teacher. He made create speeches on random, yet interesting topics. He edited students speeches on the fly, and would call you out when you did something wrong but he never made it personal and was humorous about it whenever he did poke fun.
Tom is the man!! If you don't mind writing 8-12 papers of two page length restating his notes you'll breeze thru it. Best teacher I've had at Elon. Very passionate about his material. Highly suggest!!
What to say about Tom. He sees his students as individuals, and for the most part grades on improvement from project to project. He critiques everyone in front of the class so all learn from each others mistakes and successes. He can ramble, but he knows what he's talking about. Hardly any reading and lenient with attendance.
tom is the best teacher ive had at elon if you have the chance to take him, you should! no tests just a two page paper every other week
Tom Nelson rocks my socks. You will learn so much about both shooting video and life in general. He will make you laugh for the entire hour and ten minutes you have his class. I have him for Writing for Broadcast. Take this class!
Tom is the best! Hands down. When he lays it out for you the first day, you'll flip, but you'll quickly learn that this is the best class ever! I laugh the whole hour and ten minutes, and he just wants to see you improve. Genuinely cares about every one of his students.
Tom is the man! Greatest teacher I have ever had so laid back always talks about stuff other than the class and always making jokes. Light work 1 essay per week but you can hand them in as late as you want, flexible on attendance...GREATEST TEACHER EVER! Take him you'll be happy
Tom is the greatest!! He makes class SO fun. He teaches us things that actually matter in the world and he doesn't give busy work. One short essay a week and no tests. He is lenient about attendance/lateness and is hilarious. If you get him you really lucked out- he's an amazing professor.
Nelson is the fregin man!!. I dreaded taking this class because I technically wasn't suppose to, but I'm so gad I did. He is hysterical, very engaging, and makes classes ridiculously fun and conversational. I have learned SO much from this guy. TAKE HIM for any classes you can. He is easily one of my favorite teachers/ professors of all time
Tom is one of the best professors I've had here at Elon. Probably my favorite one. Take him for Global and any other class you can! He is hysterical and his class never gets boring. I can't say enough good things about him.
Tom is one of the greatest teachers I've ever had. He is extremely, extremely entertaining and he knows how to relate all of this scholarly information to young people. I look forward to his class. He is hilarious and very personable. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Everything that's already been said is spot on.He's extremely engaging and funny, understands and teaches the class FOR the students. He's lenient with deadlines, but wants you to learn, and spells out exactly what he wants. Makes you question the world, and is making me question my major, but in a good way. Doing everything i can to have him again!
Tom Nelson is nice. He's very lenient when it comes to attendance, tardies, and deadlines. He is an easy grader and doesn't give much work. However if you're a straight A student, don't take him. He only gives like 2 or 3 A-'s each semester. If you're okay with a B or below, take him. His class is easy
if you want an A in global, don't take his class. If you're okay with a B, take his class, it's easy but he starts out the semester saying it is very rare for him to give A's so no matter how hard you work you can at most get a B.
Tom is an excellent teacher who cares about his students. His global class is not difficult, averaging a two page paper a week (based on class notes), but getting an A in the class is. He seldom gives them, so don't expect one going into it. Tom will go to any lengths to make sure you understand the material. Great, genuine guy (and hilarious)!
Tom is my advisor and he has been like a second father to me. He has a heart made of gold and will always make time for students. His class is a bit tricky but it is worth it to experience Tom Nelson. Seriously one of the best people I have ever met in my life.
He was an awesome teacher, and an entertaining one at that. He is always available for his students, and is also reasonable person when it comes to deadlines.
You can tell that he truly cares about the students. He takes time to talk with certain people when they are falling behind and doesnt like to see us fail. He is also really into german cross-pollination and that comes out through his teaching. overall great class, great professor. just show up and do your work!
Tom Nelson is seriously the man! He's my adviser now and is really the best professor at Elon. He takes the time to get to know you. If you're having trouble, he's really understanding and will do whatever he can to help you do well. I honestly can say I am so lucky to have him. His class is a lot of work. Its tough, but totally worth it.
Tom is the greatest teacher I've had at Elon. You'll spend a lot of time on projects, but find that it's the most fun you've had doing homework in your life, and it's really rewarding work. He cares deeply for his students and their improvement. Classes are super fun, all the work is outside of class and there is no reading whatsoever. Awesome guy
Loved Tom. Super easy to get good grades on his papers. Also, he is a funny guy and keeps you entertained in class.
Great professor with awesome advice and insight to the communications field!
Awesome professor! The class is easy and fun. The only assignments are a short paper every couple of weeks that are very easy to write because his lectures inform you really well. He keeps the class alive, but knows his stuff. The guy is a goof and everyone I know loves him. From what I've heard he's the best teacher for Cor 110.
He was a really great guy, very relatable but his lectures had a tendency to ramble.
Hard to get an A, but almost anyone can get a B. All assignments are papers.
By the end of your college career, you will have taken classes taught by many different professors. Some will be good, others will be bad. Professor Nelson is neither good nor bad - He is fantastic. He truly cares about students outside of the classroom, and understands how to teach within it. Take a class with Tom Nelson. You won't regret it.
Amazing human being. I have had him for two classes and he has always been there to help me every step of the way. I am a senior on my way out of Elon and the one professor who will stand out as being the best is Tom. He has become a friend and an inspiration on how one should conduct themselves in order to gain respect while still being revered
Very Easy Grader as long as you put effort and show that you care somewhat. Cares about his students and them succeeding, not just in his specific class, but in general. Hilarious man, easy to talk to. Highly recommend taking ANY class with him. If you need structure and super clear step by step explanations, he may frustrate you...
Very casual teacher with hilarious commentary. Understands what it is like to be a student, very helpful and will work with you as long as you don't take advantage of him.
Assigns two page papers (about 10 throughout the semester). They are pretty easy and he gives you lots of freedom on the topics. Lectures can be long sometimes, but he tries to make them interesting by including lots of stories to connect with the topic. Usually doesnt let you out of class early, but he does on occasion.
One of the nicest professors I've met at Elon. The only assignments are 2 page papers throughout the semester. He told our class that he gives out A- and not A, but I know a handful of students who got A's. Show up, pay attention, and be respectful and you should be fine.
I had Tom for COR110 and his class was easily one of my favorites last semester. It isn't easy to get a high grade from him, but I left that class having learned a lot of information that is applicable to everyday life. He is funny and I looked forward to attending his class every week.
One of my favorite teachers here at Elon. Unfortunately the course i took was a freshman foundation and he teaches outside my major, otherwise i would take another class taught by him in a second. Would definitely recommend not just for COR110 but for any course taught by him.
Amazing teacher! Teaches you stuff that will make you a more well rounded academic person. Lectures are extremely interesting. Only graded work are papers that are once a week. Take him for global if given the opportunity!!
Nelson is one of the best Global teachers at Elon. His class isn't difficult as long as you do the assigned 2 page papers every week. If you take good notes, the work is a breeze and you'll pass with flying colors. He understands that his class is not top priority for most students. The only down side is he doesn't give out A's.
He makes class entertaining. He gets off topic a lot, but makes it very clear when he is talking about important things. He also will not require you to know things he didn't go over in class.
He's my homie, I love this guy. One class, he walked in after a long day of teaching and had half of a sandwich his wife made him. He offered it to the class, I took it, and now I always take any sandwich he offers. He's also super down to earth, knows the mindset of a college and wants you to not only learn, but to enjoy learning too. 'Sup Tom.
Really chill dude. Was definitely a really interesting guy that I would sit at lunch with and talk forever with. However with all that was fun with this class, he does not give an A on any paper. If you are looking for GPA booster in a way this class is supper easy a paper every other week. Just dont expect an A in this class, B+ if you do work.
Tom does not give tests but rather a paper due every week. He makes his lectures interesting but often goes off topic and rambles. If you are taking this class for your major I would not recommend him. I have friends in other sections that seemed to learn much more. He is a tough grader and does not give out A's.
Tom is a difficult grader, but it is 100% worth it. One of the best teachers I've ever had, very down-to-earth and understanding of college students. Cares a lot about his students and educating them the best he can. Don't hesitate to take his class if you get the chance, just don't expect an easy A.
He is one of my favorite professors in the communication school! He is funny and really cares about his students! I would highly recommend taking any class he is teaching no matter what time it is offered. HE IS THE BEST
Nelson is a really nice guy, and he truly cares about first-year students. I found him to be funny and enjoyable. Class is lecture based, and if you take notes you'll do well. Assignments are usually 2 page papers, with one longer paper for the final. If you rewrite the notes in paper format, you'll be fine. Rare to get above a B in his class.
Goes off on LOTS of tangents not related to class.
I Love Tom! He genuinely wants his students to do well and will work with you to make sure you are staying on track. The entire class is graded on a curve so if you do well throughout the semester you'll get a good grade and he really respects students who put in a lot of effort. Class is very relaxed but if you don't like tangents don't take Tom.
Favorite teacher ever! Such a great guy and really cares about his students. Will help you out with whatever you need; teaches as well as gives a lot of life lessons.
He doesnt teach anything! He will go off on tangents and expect papers every week, in which everyone gets the same grade (B). He doesnt leave feedback and says there is no way to improve your grade. Nice guy who has a lot of knowledge, but dont expect to learn in this class.
Great professor, kind of goes on tangents a lot, but otherwise it's just one paper a week based solely on the lectures. Lectures are based on textbook, but no one in our class used their textbook ever. Almost everyone gets a B+.
Prof Nelson is great. It is a paper-based class, so there wasn't a ton of work outside of class. However, he grades vaguely and usually gives everyone a B. But, if you put in a lot of effort and show improvement he will give you a higher grade. Pay attention during class, even during his (inspirational) tangents, because you will be rewarded.
I liked Nelson for one class, but probably wouldn't take again. Be prepared to get a B. If you're a C student definitely take because it will bump you up, if you're an A hungry student think twice. He kinda of rambles but you learn a lot of random info and the paper topics are intriguing. One of the better professors at the school, and he does care
Tom is a crazy guy no doubt. He likes to go off on tangents and talk about his life and make jokes during class. He says he follows the textbook but I didn't even buy it. He doesn't require you to learn anything thats not in class and gives papers on what you learned. The papers aren't hard at all, more so they're thought provoking. Got to love him
I will say he goes off tangent a lot, but this also means you don't have to attend all of his classes because he's aware of it. He assigns a lot of homework but they're simple - usually, everyone gets a B. If you put effort and show signs of improvement he'll bump up your grade! He's a super caring guy too, he will not let you fail the class.
Interesting guy who really likes teaching. Very nice and remembers all his students. Loves to stop and chat if he sees you around campus. Graded only by essays which he grades fairly tough. Does not like giving A's, but if you work hard enough it can be done.
Professor Nelson is absolutely amazing. I was constantly entertained in his class. He goes off of what we are talking about related to class and talks about random things but, that is what makes him the best. If you want a B, take his class. You will not get an A, but you will 100% not get below a B. This class is worth the B. Trust me!
Nelson's the best professor at Elon. He's engaging, caring, and incredibly wise. However, you won't get an A unless you absolutely kill it on every paper. I highly recommend Tom.
You can pour your heart and soul into every assignment and have perfect attendance, or you can skip almost every class and turn in all the assignments late, either way, you're gonna make a B in the course. He only gives B's. He can ramble and be a bit repetitive but he's really fun and you can tell he genuinely cares.
Tom Nelson has to be one of the best professors at Elon. Hes super funny and his lectures are absolutely amazing. He was my first class on Monday and made it a great start to the day. Being present is recommended, but hes lenient on attendance. He mostly gives Bs but if you play his game, an A is achievable. Overall, Tom is the best for COM100.
Great guy, very understanding of students. Young at heart. Compassionate. Make an effort to pay attention and you'll do well.
A lot of people liked him because he is pretty laid back but if you want to get anything real/applicable out of class, this is the wrong class for you. He grades based on the other students in class instead of your own work and decides early on what kind of student you are (B, A-, C, etc.) You also will not get higher than an A-. No feedback either
Tom Nelson is a very fine professor.
So nice and funny. Grades are all based on papers due each week and I swear he doesn't read them just gives everyone a B+. The classes can be boring at times because they're all just lectures but he's literally the nicest guy ever and is so understanding about missing class and late assignments. He's also so funny and clearly cares so much.
Absolutely terrific!!!
He's such an amazing guy! If you have the opportunity to take his class, ABSOLUTELY do it! One of the best, most caring profs at Elon
This guy is a bumbling idiot but he's pretty funny. I didn't learn anything but it was fun I guess. Just a shame that it's a class that mattered for my major.
If you have a chance to have him for Comm 1000 TAKE HIM. I had an 8 am and he's the only prof i would show up for. Don't expect an A+ but dont let it scare you away, amazing guy amazing class.
Tom is my favorite teacher at Elon hands down. He is so understanding and funny. You have papers every week but they are only 2 pages and super simple. 100% take his class if you can
One of my best prof all of my freshman year. He is funny and tried to keep us rnggesd. Class is overall a good time
Although I wouldn't take him again, Tom is the GOAT. Great stories, but pretty lecture heavy. He is just a nice old guy who wants to see his kids succeed. Only assignment is a paper once a week, super easy, but you'll almost always get a B.
Tom is one of the best professors in the entire communications school. He gives great lectures and is always hilarious. He genuinely cares about his students and is very passionate about what he does. The only assignments are weekly two-page papers but the grading criteria is unclear. You MUST take at least one class with him before graduating.
He was the first professor I had in the first semester of my freshman year-- still a freshman. He is the type of professor that you look forward to going to his class. He'll keep you laughing throughout the whole class and keep you intrigued. You never know what he's going to say but in a good way. Definitely recommend!!!
Tom Nelson is one of the most entertaining professors I've had at Elon. He is incredibly passionate about what he teaches and will make you passionate about it too, regardless if you have any background in the subject. There was rarely a dull moment in his class, and even though class was very lecture-heavy, Tom kept class engaging and interesting!
One of the best profs I have had. Genuinely cares about students His lectures are all over the place but always fun to listen to. Very loud and blunt. no bullsh*t style. Focuses more on critical thinking rather than regurgitating information. The more you participate in class, the more fun the class gets. DOES NOT USE MOODLE Everything is on paper.
Tom Nelson is the most caring professor I've ever had. He does have a textbook for a rough guideline, but he teaches from his heart and in ways that keep the class interested. He grades fairly and genuinely cares about his student's wellbeing. I plan on finding another class of his that I can take.
Tom is the most amazing prof ever! Absolutely hilarious me and my friends would write down our favorite quotes of his. Keeps lectures entertaining with his humor. One 2 page paper a week as homework so writing heavy but he'll give you notes for it that whole week. You must take at least one of his classes before graduating Elon.
Tom has easily been my favorite professor I've had here. He is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet, and has an amazing sense of humor. He is super lenient with late work and absences. Just be prepared to receive a lot of B+ on papers, as he almost never gives out anything higher than that. I highly recommend you take Tom before you graduate
Tom is amazing. He is by far my favorite professor ever! He is extremally intelligent and lectures very well. All of the things he talks about are memorable. I learned so many things in his class and I can't wait to take his class again. Would 100% recommend. THE BEST prof at Elon.
Funny as hell
Professor Nelson is the best teacher that I have had in a long time. I had him at an 8 AM time slot but it felt like the middle of the day because of how much he engages the class in his stories. Very funny teacher and gives good feedback on papers. I would definitely recommend taking this class with Professor Nelson.
Take him, just do it. The only homework is a weekly 2 page paper that is assigned on Wednesday (for a M/W/F class) and due on Monday. It's okay if you're late as long as you show up (but don't abuse this). I had him for an 8 am and he brought a lot of energy every class. Lectures are very lively and not boring
Literally my favorite teacher i've ever had even compared to high school and before. If i could have professor Nelson for every class I would. He cares about his students and gives fantastic lectures. I had to hike from the opposite end of campus at 9am to attend and i was perfectly happy to do so, thats how great this professor is. take his class!
Not a bad thing to say. He is caring and respectful of all of his students. He's the type of father figure that makes you feel comfortable at Elon when scare as a new student. I have learned more from him than any teacher I have had in the past. Make sure to volunteer in class and get to know him. He is willing to help any issue, even non-academic!
The best teacher I've ever had, I could not say enough. Hilarious, knowledgeable, very clearly invested in what he's teaching. He does not want you to fail. All you have to do is write + turn in the papers. You can ask for extensions with no pushback. What a great introduction to the Comm School
Tom Nelson is one of the most entertaining professors I've had. He truly cares about his students and he wants them to do well. The work load is basically just writing a two page think paper (from a prompt) every week. I thoroughly enjoyed his class. He may not go into as much detail and be as thorough as other comm professors, but he's great.
Tom is the best professor I've ever had. He is so funny and down to earth. The only assignments are a 2-page paper every week (prompt given on Wednesday, due Monday). The papers are straight-forward and easy. He makes class fun and interesting and gives real-world examples that you'll actually use in life. If you have to take COM1000, take Tom!
One of my favorite teachers, I am a finance major and I still wanted to take his class. His lessons really resonate with you and in my experience you learn a lot in this class. You write a double spaced 2 page paper every week (its very light) and that's all you have to do in class. 100% recommend genuinely loved this guy
Professor Nelson makes this class super enjoyable. The weekly 2-page papers are manageable, and he's always willing to help. Definitely take advantage of study tools like Unstuck AI - they really help prep for this class.
Tom is one of the best professors I've had at Elon! While he doesn't use Moodle, he's easy to reach outside of class. He's funny, engaging, and clearly experienced in communications. Weekly one-minute video assignments were fun, with clear feedback to improve. He genuinely cares about his students and their success. I highly recommend him!
Tom is one of the nicest, funniest teachers I've had. His class is fun and there is a weekly assignment. He really cares for all of his students and wants them to be successful. I am so glad I got to take his class and if I could take another one with him I would.
Take Tom for COM1000! The only grades in his class were weekly videos based on his lectures, no midterm, final, or any exams. He's super engaging and hilarious. I used the textbook maybe two or three times to jog my memory for my assignments. He's lenient with late work and attendance, but he will reward those with good attendance and work ethic.
He is the most caring professor and goes easy on his students. There is little work in this class. You need to make a one-minute video weekly talking about what you learned. He gives you ample chances and opportunities to turn work in late. His lectures tend to get boring and off-topic, but he is a nice guy who wants his students to succeed.
Tom is a great professor and cares so much about his students. He gives many opportunities to turn in late work. The homework assigned is a one-minute video on what was learned in class that week, very easy to do. Great class to take and very interesting, although sometimes lectures get a little boring.
Last year my brother had him for the same class last year. I am a transfer student, so in the fall I was still finding my footing around Elon. I feel like Tom really cares about the kids he teaches. He is very funny and easy to talk to. He does not ask for much and the assignments are very self-explanatory. Tom has been an amazing teacher.
He was pretty easy each class. he doesn't care if you are on your computer he might ask what you are doing, he doesn't care if you are shopping. He will get off topic but its ok because he is interesting. He actually cares about his students and if you no call/no show to class more then twice in a row he will call campus PD to make sure ur ok.
I love Tom Nelson ! He is easily one of the best Professors in the School of Communications. Attendance is mandatory but he gives you a lot of leeway when it comes to absences. His lectures are very dynamic. I never know what will happen when I walk in the door for class but I always learn something from him. He really cares about his students.
