Most of homework is online, it is very annoying because you have to type in all of the algebraic expressions. Lots of homework. Tests are hard but doable if you study well. Pop quizzes on random days; attendance necessary. Textbook is completely unnecessary.
TEACHER IS HORRIBLE. His homework online is very annoying. Homework and notes do not match up. Very sarcastic and not funny. Full of himself wears tight shirts is very lazy. My advice do not take this teacher.
i HATE math. he made this class super easy. if you have a question he makes sure to explain everything to you until you completely understand it. his tests are a little trickier than his homework & notes, but if you show 100% effort on-line, he will round your grade to help you out in the end. best teacher i've ever had!
I took statistics AP back in high school and got a C. Retook statistics with this professor. His degree is not in statistics and this was his first time teaching it. His homework is online and gave extra credit on all exams. Very understanding and open to questions.
I loooved Mr. Ogimachi, his enthusiasm for the subject truly shows when he is teaching. His homework is online and and can be turned in for extra credit if written down. His tests were perfectly fair if you pay attention in class and do the homework. Would highly recommend him and would take him again for calculus if i could.
I really liked the way Tom taught. He is very thorough during lectures. I was in his first class he ever fully taught Stats in and he did a fantastic job for his first time. He uses MyMathLab, but gives extra credit for exams if homework and quizzes are written down. If you pay attention in class and do homework the exams are pretty fair.
I love Tom! I have taken a whole year with him and plan on taking M07 and stats with him! His personality is very blunt and he teaches the same way. What he tells you is what he expects. The math homework online can be annoying but it really helps you learn the material. I suggest him to anyone who is going to take math at Moorpark
Best Statistics professor at Moorpark College. His notes and examples are very easy to understand. He uses an online homework system, that you do your quizzes and homework. If you write down your homework and quizzes on paper, you can turn in in for extra credit on test days. His tests are based off his examples from his notes and homework.
This class said some homework will be online but ALL the homework, including quizzes were online. I am not good at math and I needed a classroom structure that is what I didn't take an online class but I felt like this mine as well be online. He did not answer ANY of my emails and was not too helpful. He's a nice guy but a horrible teacher.
Tom is awesome. All homework and quizzes are done through MyMathLab. He allows 5 xcredit points the day of each test if you turn in all of the online homework written up on paper which ends up helping a lot! He comes off as kind of an ass, but he really wants his students to learn everything right the first time. Teaches right from his notes.
He is a bit uptight...strict grader...but he knows his stuff and teaches well
For all of these people who are saying that Tom is a bad teacher, they are wrong and lazy; is his class hard? Yeah it is. Its 5 units expect the work, he gives 5 extra credit points per test, drops 1 quiz, final replaces lowest test grade. All hw and quizzes can be done as many times as you want, . He gives a notecard for tests, 1 full page 4 final
Great professor! I took statistic with him over the summer and he was excellent. He is very fair in grading and makes everything crystal clear. However, he isn't a easy teacher. He makes sure you do your work to get the grade you really deserve. I got a B in his class and I 100% agree with my final grade. If you're lazy, dont take him
This teacher is amazing! All homework and quizzes are done online and can be turned in for each test for extra credit! He wants people to learn which makes him such a great teacher! Printing the notes out really helps when you can follow along. Not the easiest teacher but it's a 5-unit class so don't expect an easy workload.
Great teacher, and a great class. An A is definitely doable if you do the homework (it's required anyway). You can re-take quizzes and there are lots of extra credit opportunities. He wants his students to succeed ,but you have to put in the work!
This teacher knows stats very well, but he should not be a teacher. He doesn't know how explain concepts clearly. My opinion, don't take him.
Professor Ogimachi, or "TomTom" is an awesome teacher. His notes and lectures were clear, and 99.9% of the material you see in class will relate to the exams. The mymathlab homework is really annoying though. I definitely recommend this teacher. If you do the homework and have a learn the material you should be fine.
do your work, study.. pass the class... he is waaaaaaaaaay more than generous on his grading. if you get anything lower than C in ANY of his classes, don't blame anyone but yourself. Ready to work? take his class.
I took him last semester and he was beyond difficult. He does not explain anything properly. His exams, are 3 chapters at once! Basically you need to cover over 150 pages. Gives NO STUDY Guide on what will be on the test, just notes. I am taking Stats at LAVC and am passing with an A right now. Do not take him, find another professor. Not EASY!
A really good teacher. Pay attention in class, do the homework, put the work into it and there's no reason why you shouldn't do well.
Don't really care for his personality– he's kind of puts students down and thinks he's the bee's knees- But really he's a great teacher! I learned a ton in this class and his lectures are crystal clear. He brings in his own methods for making things easier and they really help! Despite the fact that he can be annoying, I'd take him again.
He is a helpful teacher. He will explain materials again and again until you get it.
I took this class last semester, He is a very hard teacher be prepared to work. His quizes and homework were online which I personally did not like. He expects you to know parts of the chapter that were never taught in class. I would not reccomend
Ogimachi may be good for other math classes, but he is NOT for calc. only his second semester teaching it. he is hard and his tests are ridic. other teachers allow calculators so you don't have to do fractions by hand in CALC but he doesnt. he's hard. don't take him for calc. your gpa will be screwed over if you do. i dropped.
Tom is by far the best math teacher i have ever had. His lectures are very clear and interesting. One of the nicest guys ever and is extremely helpful in office hours. Extremely hard teacher though. If you think you're going to pass his class without doing all the hw assignments, you're wrong. His tests are brutal and has frequent quizzes. Be ready
This class was hard for me; but math is not my strongest subject. I had to get lots of tutoring and study really hard on my own. It seemed like Tom didn't really care about anyone in the class, or if they were understanding the material or not. Tests are hard. It is important to do tons of practice problems and study the lecture notes.
Don't take his online class, most difficult class ever. Had 1 day of lecture and the rest online he maybe lectured 40 min out of 2 hour class and turned it over to group work and didn't answer any questions or give any help. Hardest class I've taken so far and I just finished Calc. Don't be fooled by the online class you get punished!
Tom makes this class way more difficult than it needs to be. The workload was so intense and we had to come to class with our notes prepared.. he didn't do class notes and it was the blind leading the blind during group work. The final was ridiculously hard. This class made me have no life this semester. Take this class with a different professor!!
Tom is a fantastic math teacher. He has a bit of a sassy attitude and thinks he's hot stuff, but he is always willing to help students out and really enjoys learning new/easier methods to solve problems. Tons of hw on my math lab. 100 problems per chapter at least and it's worth a decent amount of your grade. You better work.
Tom is a really great teacher that explains everything clearly and doesnt try and throw you off on tests. If you understand the material (and do all the hw) there is no reason you cannot get an A. He even puts all the notes and class work solutions online! If youre unsure about taking calc, take it with him.
Tom is a good professor, he explains things thoroughly. If you don't understand the material it's important to attend class, but since i already knew this material, i was often bored in class. If you do all the homework assignments and ask him all your questions, you'll do well in his class. He's really cool teacher! I recommend him!
Took his half online/half lecture class for statistics. He was a very good teacher and explained everything very well, but he has a horrible attitude and can come off as very rude at times. But if you do your homework and quizzes, and pay attention, you will be fine. Enjoyed his teaching.
I just took this teacher's Int. Algebra class for the summer of 2013. His teaching temperament is VERY poor. He is brilliant at knowing the material, if you want to deal with a ball of tension, take this instructor. GOOD LUCK
Took his hybrid. He has office hours, VERY helpful. Stats is a hard class and if you're good at math, you may be good. I'm terrible so this was a struggle. Lots of work. Re-do your quizzes until they're perfect, do all homework, and get help when doing quizzes. Pay a lot of attention to memorizing formulas. Nice guy if you try hard.
I took him over a year ago or so. He was very difficult, math is not my strongest sub so I had to drop. Took it with another Profe, and passed with an A. I put my time, I studied hard and did not pass either of his 2 tests. I hold a 3.8 GPA and I struggled with him. Find another Profe.
I was literally too afraid to ask questions in class. If you ask a question youre asking to get picked on. Whenever i ask a question he goes "you clearly werent paying attention" when i was i just didnt understan. dont buy the textbook you dont use it all. He does all this online stuff
Took him for Pre-calculus, very hard teacher. Said that more than half the class will fail, and always picks on people. He thinks he is a comedian and will call you out. Most Importantly his HW does not match the test what so ever!
Took his stats class over the summer awhile back. He's a good teacher and a nice guy. You obviously need to put the work in. Pay attention, review your notes, do the homework, and you can get a good grade in the class.
Don't take his online/ in class lecture course whatever you do. This class has caused me to have extreme anxiety and stress. His tests are hard, and he is is extremely rude.
This class was alright. You definitely have to work hard and put in all effort to pass this class. He is very picky about how you show your work on tests/quizzes. Quiz at the beginning of each class. Do not take this class if you are looking for an easy A.
Save your GPA or prepare to have a W. I studied, A LOT, went to the math lab, did the HW, showed up to class, and I could not pass his first 2 exams. I had to drop, and I devoted a ton of time to his course. Rude, smug, not helpful. Took Stats this semester with a new prof, and guess what? Got an A. I saved my 3.85GPA but took a W.
Ever wonder why there is always space in his class? No, it is not because it is a internet class. The reason is, he is a poor teacher. His tests are difficult, do not match with the HW. If he is your last option, do not, i repeat, do not take him. Wait a semester, and save your money. He tells the class most will fail or drop. Great motivator, NOT!
He is mean in the beginning, but mellows out after the slackers drop. Just hang in there, because he is a great teacher! I learned so much in his class and I'm glad I stuck it out.
It's true, he can be an ass...but he explains things well. He will make fun of you if you're being a lazy student but at that point you kind of deserve it. He makes class interesting and enjoyable. I suck at math and with Tom I finally understand
This professor is a joke. I am an A student and I did not pass. His expectations for homework were unreasonable. No notes on exams. Had to memorize formulas. Exams did not reflect the material covered in class. I figured even though the reviews said not to take him, being the student that I am, that I would pass. Guess what, I didn't.
I really enjoyed this class. Yea he can come off as self obsessed, but you get used to it. He tries to scare off slackers but once he does he is pretty chill. Picked on me a couple of times, but in the end was very kind one on one. BEWARE!!!! KEEP YOUR PHONES OFF!!!!!!I LEARNED THE HARD WAY, TWICE!!!!!!!!!DO ALL THE HOMEWORK, STUDY, not an easy A.
Makes simple topics unccesarily hard. My class currently has a d average and on tests we average a high F. Absolutly unreasonable. Avoid at all costs!
He's a decent teacher but is really tough on his students. His tests are extremely hard and I struggled to even catch on to his trickery. We never used the book, but we did all homework online. Oh and quizzes happen on the daily at least twice a day. So be ready for a million quizzes. He's super loud too (yells a lot), but will definitely help you.
This man is rude, condescending, and thinks he's funny. I got a 40% on the 1st test(which was better than three people around me). i did all the homework and never missed a class. I also felt confident going into the test. I dropped after getting a 20% on the second test. should've dropped sooner when i found out he does cross fit, teehee.
If you are looking for an easy A stop and find a new teacher. Tom is brilliant, goes over every single step, crystal clear explanations on how to do the problems, BUT the material is hard and if you do not put in the time to do the homework and study for the tests you will not pass. He is kind of intimidating but he's a great teacher.
Pretty rude. Not interested in teaching. Prefers to spend his time bashing students. Hope you never get 10yr. Don't take this class, wait till next semester if u have too. I love school and hate him.
The absolute worst professor I've had. Constant yelling, makes students feel horrible and belittles them constantly. I highly recommend passing on this prof.
Tom is a great professor who makes learning math simple. He breaks things down in a way that makes it easier to understand. Yes, he is loud and his vocabulary is that of a sailor, but he IS a great teacher. His tests are hard, and if you do not study for them you will fail. I have taken him before and plan on taking him again.
DONT TAKE!!!!!! I am an A student. I understand in most classes you need to work hard to get good grades. BUT This is one of the worst professors I have ever had. If the class misbehaves he will assign a pop quiz immediately and give you less than two minutes to complete it. On material you JUST learned. SAVE YOUR GPA and run away far far away
Tom is a great teacher. You will not pass if you don't try to, basically how school goes right? Pay attention and come to class and you will pass and actually learn the material. He constantly gets you ready for the next step in the mathematical latter. If you see bad rating its because they expect good grades for no effort. Earned an A both times.
Do not take his class!!!! He is the worst professor in whole Moorpark college. He likes to fail people. He shows that he gives fare tests but it's all lie. He misses topics and picks only the hardest question possible. He teaches with his dumb iPad. Never reply to emails on time and don't expect any help from him in his office hours or in class.
Tom has a gift for explaining difficult material, but his personality greatly outweighs his skills as a professor. It's not the homework or the exams that are difficult, it's him. He seems to ENJOY watching his students fail. He missed 3 consecutive office hour appointments before the hardest test of the semester- and beware the final! It's bad!!!
I caution you all, he's a very tough grader!!! He's very thorough and his notes are pretty clear on the plus side. His teaching and grading just didn't work well for me.
Possibly best math instructor i have had.
dont spoil your GPA by taking him. He is a disaster and plus no help at all. I managed to get a B because of the material in knew before his class. And his test were not from this planet. If you want to save your math life don't take him.
If you do not do well in math, do not take his class. It's just awful, he's awful.
TOM is a great teacher! Expect to work hard! I walked away feeling like i really learned the subject! You can redo online quizzes/HW until you have your desired grade, which helps you learn. He gives you extra credit for turning in your homework on test days. the final was cumulative but he gives a good study guide. DO NOT TAKE IF YOUR LAZY!
By far the worst teacher I have had in college. He does not explain, he makes you go home and learn yourself then come to class and tell him what you learned. Stats is hard as it is and he barely helped. When you ask questions he responds with a question and barely helps explain whats going on. I would not take him ever again!
People over exaggerate about him. Ya he can be a bit sarcastic at times and a little condescending but a lot of the students just ask a bunch of really dumb questions. Just listen, take notes, do the homework. As long as you participate during class and answer questions, he shouldn't bother you.
Do not take. I'm a math minor & great at math, just wanted to retake Calc to review before transferring. Did all homework & went to class, but tests are unreal. Gives same tests to MC as he does his UC students w/o any prep for that level of difficulty. What's sad is a learned a lot, but only got a D from the tests. Do not ruin your GPA, avoid him.
Statistics with Tom was the hardest class ever. I'm not terrible at math, but he just doesn't explain properly. He makes you feel guilty and stupid for asking a question He'll make you read a book called Naked Statistics, but its not difficult. His tests and worksheets are nothing like the examples you'll do in class. DON'T TAKE HIS STATS CLASS!
Tom is a tough teacher. He expects you to do the homework and not go over it. He encourages office hours. He also expects you to just get the information given.
don't take him. I am a good student, with solid grades. Not the best at math, but not bad. Tom will completely break your spirit. He is condescending, and rude. Not a good leader, or teacher. best of luck to you should you decide to take his class.
Very very hard grader, and does not care about students. In my opinion that doesn't matter because his lectures are so extremely straight forward and clear that i passed. Math is really hard for me but with the MyMathLab he uses it helps me get practice in before tests so i didn't really study whatsoever.
Very tough teacher and grader. I learned a little in his lectures, but you learn the most from MyMathLab where you do homework and quizzes. He gives a quiz at the beginning of each class based on the chapter you will be learning that week, but you can use your notes so make sure you take good notes!!
I can't imagine any prof being worse than Tom. Tests don't feel like they accurately reflect the material taught in class and almost feel like they're set up to be near impossible. His philosophy seems to just assume you're a complete idiot until you can prove otherwise. Save your GPA and avoid like the plague.
Very good teacher. He is strict on grading so make sure notation is right. He teachers the content great, you do have to work for your grade. He is amazing if you are going higher in math.
Cool guy but the way the class is ran is ridiculous
this is my second time writing a review, my first one didn't get approved. please do not take this professor if you care about your GPA or sanity. I am a straight A student and had to drop his class this semester to save my GPA. he is rude, arrogant, literally does not care at all about his students, and the amount of homework he gives is insane
Tom isnt as hard or bad as everyone seems to make him out to be. He tells you what is going to be on the exam. He holds you accountable. Most of my class didnt do the homework and did blamed him for them not knowing how to do problems. He tells you how he is going to grade. He explains the material extremely well.
I do NOT recommend this class!!!! It's not so much the material but the way the class is run. The hybrid classes require INSANE amount of homework. You CANNOT have a job and be taking other difficult (or even mediocre) classes and succeed in this class as well. I kid you not, the homework would take me 10 hours to do & i still wasn't learning much!
Very tough grader, even with correct answers he'll take off points for notation. no calculators allowed either. Nice and helpful one on one when asking questions but the tests will eat your class grade alive if you're not careful. If you already don't like math, avoid, this class will make you hate it more.
Difficult course, but he makes it as easy as possible. I hardly used the textbook. He's really funny and a nice guy, just very specific on what he wants from you.
He uses My Math Lab (google it), he'll make you feel stupid for asking a question, he'll find some way to take points off your exam answers, his exams don't even follow the HW assigned in My Math Lab. I swear, he takes joy in the misery of his students. I knew he was trouble on day 1, but I stuck through and now I have a W for it. Better than an F.
Tom outlines everything very clearly and sticks to his set rules. Some people may find him sarcastic a bit, but I think it is hilarious how butt hurt people get. He explains concepts extremely well and grades fairly (partial credit). Toward the end, he was able to offer one on one help as the class got smaller. I would take a class with him again.
AVOID THIS PROFESSOR BY ALL MEANS!! i chose to ignore all the bad reviews and took this class with him as the instructor. nope, bad idea. Im typically a good student who does a good job handling the work load but this class/ professor changed all of that. i never want to see this mans face again and its only the 7th week of the semester.
I showed up to class, studied, got a tutor, took notes, and got a C in the class. Never again.
His tests are so hard and nothing like the practice exams/handouts. He takes off points on the test for the smallest things it's impossible to know what he expects from you for each problem. If you're even 1 minute late to class, he gives half an absence. He's very strict about how he wants things done and moves on so quickly it's hard to keep up..
He's great and super sassy. I enjoyed this class a lot. You will have to do the work, and you may need to *gasp* meet with the professor to get a good grade in this class, but this course is designed for success and he is very accessible. His candor - awesome. If I ever had to take another math course, he would be my first choice.
He's a great guy and is extremely friendly once you get to know him but his class was a nightmare. About 40 students signed up for the class and all but 7 dropped. The exams are tricky and tedious and he'll take off points for what seems to be no reason. Expect pop-up quizzes and about 300 modules on pearsonmathlabandmastering. Please do not take!
Typical crossfitter, thinks he's totally cool but really he's super MEAN!! He takes too much pride in crushing my soul Save us all
Just very scary
he's a good teacher but theres a lot of homework and group work and you can't miss a class or else you'll be far behind but he does care about everyone's grade and how well you do so if you complete all the homework, show up to class to do the group work, and study really hard for tests then it should be fine
Please do not take this class. He is one of the worst profs ive ever had. Insanely hard, no help.
taught wrong material
Tom clearly very intelligent & knows his material to a T, but he is downright exhausting. His attitude is rude, belittling, & condescending in class. It is clear he was only there for the paycheck. I can't understand why he chose to teach as a profession, he's not there to help anyone. He LITERALLY just wants to be the smartest guy in the room.
Worst teacher ever. Tough grader. Always changes assignments and won't tell you. Hard class the was its ran is awful and confusing. I dont suggest taking his class.
I took Tom for Trig/PreCalc which was a hybrid course with part online part in class. He definitely knows his stuff but he is a hard grader! So if you're looking for an easy A, then he's definitely not the right professor for you. But if you're looking to learn and put 100% of your effort into the class, then you will get a lot out of him.
This guy is something else. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DONT TAKE HIM. He is such a stress case, if you dont follow every single little detail its the end of the world. He LOVES to yell and ridicule students. Good luck passing this class, not many do.
I took it for the summer for 6 weeks. Material was covered quickly with one test every week. First time he taught this class. Was wrong about stuff sometimes. Just copied SGs and tests from Prof Nyugen. HW? "Just do all of them". Not the nicest guy. Grade scale more lenient at the end, but A's still 90%. Tests very hard, most nothing like the SGs.
Literally could care less about you. His way of teaching is terrible. Doesnt answer your questions. Is very quick and vague in his lectures. He relies on another teacher to do all the work(gives the same tests and project, makes you watch the other teachers lectures).
Awful teaching style. Does not care about the students. Seems like his style relies on unaddressed childhood issues, almost like he failed at something and wants to take it out on the class. Honestly first math class I ever got a B in, do not take it you will regret. Final is worth 35% tests 50% and quiz 15%.
I wouldn't take him. Honestly, he isn't much of a teacher, he just proctors classes. He has a general disdain for students and isn't very responsive. He makes it very clear that he isn't going to help you out of the start which is nice. Our class quickly dropped students and is almost below ten.
Just a horrible professor. I do not recommend one bit. You dont believe me ? Ok take him youll see. But I warned u.
Took him for online M07. It is a decent amount of work but that isn't surprising considering it is a 6 unit class. The other remarks about the M07 class are incorrect. Those students don't seem to understand what goes into an online class. Each week is outlined clearly and there are multiple versions of practices exams which are like the exams.
This was the toughest class I have ever taken, it was through PACE, so it was a ton of homework, and quizzes, two chapters weekly, and on top of it he made us read a book. He offered office hours, but that's isn't helpful if you work, since office hours are in the morning. Must be good at math bcz you pretty much teach yourself. Don't take!!!!
Tom explains math better than any math teacher I've ever had. He explains concepts multiple ways and uses graphs to help visualize ideas. Provides practice problems and old exams to help prepare for exams. Calculus is difficult but Tom helps make it easier.
I just started Professor Ogimachi's Summer online Math M07 class. I am very impressed in the level of organization that the course has. The entire semester is outlined. He has videos posted to help with the homework and multiple practice exams for every exam including the final.
Unfortunately, I had to take my math class with him last semester but to be honest, he is a nightmare, if you care about your health and GPA, don't go around him
Took this class and let me just tell you, just don't. for the sake of yourself, do not take his class. Worst grader, if it is not perfect you are wrong. Does not respond to emails at all. You use a certain software and it is fine, until you get and 80% on the test, and because your work was not absolutely perfect to his standard, you got a 50%
He does not care about his students understanding material especially with online learning. Uploads lectures, has two office hours thats it. Takes forever to respond to emails, replies sarcastically, and will take points off of tests for not being perfect also does not tell you what you did wrong just takes pts no extra credit no curve stay away!!!
If you have the choice between his online class and state-sponsored torture; I would choose the CIA any day. I took his online class, so to be fair he may be different in person. No zoom meetings. No responses. 5% of your grade is dedicated to a pre-calculus exam designed to weed you out in the first week. Your grade is weighted; Canvas is not!!!!
Hard work will get you no where in this class. Its the professors way or no way. Please spare yourself the agony of the scrutinized grading and dont take the course.
Surprised Moorpark administration hasn't done anything about him. His grading system is a complete mystery. Fails people if the work wasn't exactly how he envisioned it in his head even if answers are correct. He makes fun of students and does everything he can to ensure the students fail. The average scores on all the exams are 45% or lower.
HE is thee worst Math teacher HE IS A 9-5 TEACHER, he doesnt care if hes good or bad hes just there collecting a check. If youre one where math comes easy to you then ya take the class because youll be able to teach yourself. If math doesnt come easy to you then get ready to sign up for these online websites that can help you.
Professor Ogimachi runs his class like it's a university course, when in reality he's educating community college students who are juggling part time jobs and taking care of family at home. His tests are ridiculously weighted (40%) and lack any reminiscence of the homework assignments. His class will make you look bad on your college app. Dont take
I would never want to take his class again. Your class work and homework arent worth nothing. And I tried to email him and he doesnt get back. He doesnt even teach, he just post videos from YouTube. I am surprised moorpark hasnt gotten rid of him. There were no zoom meeting or nothing we had to teach are selfs. I couldnt even get ahold of him
The tests were very difficult, the mean grade for them was about 50. There is not a single curve in the entire course. I don't know anything about the professor's personality since it was an online class. If you cannot learn by yourself well I would not recommend taking his online classes. More than half of the class dropped out by the end.
Professor Ogimachi was one of the worst instructors that I have ever had. This was my first semester at Moorpark College and I surely will not forget it due to my experience with this class. He is extremely test heavy and never mentioned the required software for the test (costs money) in the syllabus. Relies on YouTube to teach his students.
Homework amount is a lot but doable, you learn a lot from Webassign. The tests are a totally different nightmare. My biggest issue with Tom is that I studied the practice problems for hours (30+ hours per avg week for 1 class!) then took an exam with harder/different questions, and tough grading. My advice, study hard + put aside lots of time!
Would not recommend ever taking this teacher poor communicator poorly outlined class.
Take heed: He is the worst prof I have ever had. I'm not some angry student who hates math and is biased. I usually do well in math. Tom is the hardest and most unfair grader. Math is right or wrong. My accuracy deserved a B but he didn't like my work and I didn't pass. He hid our grades from us and much of the class dropped. Please stay away.
Very frustrating online class. Expected to spend 20-30 hours a week on this class which is not practical given most students have four other classes. Test are worth 40% of your grade... Also not practical the the whole class fails the first one! Wouldn't take this class. Good luck if you do!
I took this professor for Trig, which I know pretty well but I needed it for a prerequisite. The main homework was in ALEKS but there were also discussions (for math?) in canvas which I didn't like so much. The discussions themselves weren't so bad, but he was a really picky grader on them. ALEKS was more of the professor in that class.
If you're looking for an easy A then this professor is not for you. If you're looking for growth and willing to put in the time, then Tom is a great professor for you. Lectures are all recorded and you watch at your leisure. In my experience at office hours, Tom is very approachable and willing to help. Just meet him half way and you'll do fine.
Summer 2020 If you're okay being self-taught and not needing someone to hold your hand and you have 30+ hours during the week and weekends, then you will do fine. Other than that, don't waste your time thinking you will pass the class. This is a no lecture, self-taught course with very little instructor feedback.
DO NOT IGNORE THE RATINGS LIKE I DID. THIS CLASS IS THE WORST CLASS I HAVE EVER TAKEN. he is by far the worst grader I have ever met; takes off points left and right for not having "correct math diction." The grading scale is crap and there is so much homework. save your time and money. if I could give a zero star rating I would.
This class was a stress-filled nightmare. Doing the homework and studying for 30+ hours doesn't matter at all because of how difficult his exams are, not to mention his incredibly strict grading. If possible, find and choose a different professor.
He is one of the worst professors Ive ever had. His online tests didnt allow for you to come back if your internet went out. This happened to me twice in a row and i failed both of them because of it. In addition, He NEVER responded to any of my emails even though I followed his exact instructions on how to contact him.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR’s CLASS. I have never ever had a worse professor than him. He takes off so many points on exams for missing a single step. It is almost impossible to get good grades on exam because of his tough grading.
Professor Ogimachi was very unhelpful. He assigned a lot of homework and made us take the exams with little to no preparation. Please do not take his class! We reached out to the department chair, and they did nothing.
Read the reviews! Awful class! The professor doesn't respond to e-mails asking for help and you will spend at least 20 hours a week doing online homework and studying...and then the test comes, which is so far beyond what you had to teach yourself that most people dropped the course. On top of that, tests are done via Proctorio - eyes everywhere!
If math doesn't agree with you and you have a hard time understanding it, then be ready for a struggle. He won't call anyone out by name, but he will call out the class if participation takes too long. My advice: buckle down and stay. On. Top. Of. Your. Homework. Also, memorize the notation and symbols because you will be seeing a lot of it.
ONLY take this class if you have time and self discipline. There is A LOT of work and a total of 5 exams + the final (which in the end replaces your lowest scored exam.) There are specifically graded discussions and weekly assignments and quizzes. He is easy to communicate with and contact. Organized but fast paced.
Doesnt give partial credit on exams
Extremely difficult class. Even though the class was online it was super hard to communicate and sometimes left unanswered. Lots and lots of homework and tests are extremely hard.
Unclear and a very demanding professor. Do not take him if you are uncomfortable with math. He is also not easily accessible outside of class. Furthermore, whenever you ask for help- he is condescending.
Just don't bother taking this class, there are better and easier teachers and graders. I took his class online and there wasn't any actual sufficient lecture about the material, it was only a couple of youtube videos from some random people online doing 1-2 examples and a small breakdown. The materials are given to study are difficult to navigate.
Don't take this professor unless you can teach yourself just about everything. I took it online, and failed it because I had absolutely no help. He never responds to emails. No extra credit. Insane amount of homework with no help at all. Biggest waste of my time ever. Don't take it!
At the start of the semester it seemed as though it was gonna be a super difficult class to pass due to his previous rates, but the deeper we got into the semester the more he worked with us and threw us a lot of bones grade wise. He is a tough grader but he really does give you everything you will need to pass his exams.
This class was a journey for many of us. We were given many opportunities to chose our destiny throughout the course, and democratically decide what would be the best format for lectures, classwork, homework, and a grading system. He was very accommodating and extremely generous throughout. He inspired us to work together & create a fun environment
I've gone the entire year and have no idea what this professor looks or sounds like. Not a single lecture has been uploaded, you learn via a textbook copy and paste. If you like to learn alone, with only a textbook, this class is perfect for you! If you need ANY help (or even think you might a single time), this class is a hard pass!
doesn't give partial credit, if you miss one negative at the end of the problem the whole answer is zero. If you are 10 minutes late, that's a partial absense. will grade harsher if he doesn't like you. If you want to do well, kiss his a** and don't ask him anything. very condescending and belittling, especially on the girls in his class
Save yourself. Avoid this class at all costs. Completely self-taught from youtube videos he links to the questions which half of the time do not answer what the homework questions include. Additionally, I signed up for the remote class and we need to go in person 5 times for exams. The workload is the most intense class I have taken.
"Tom" refuses to lecture and instead links youtube videos and a free textbook for you to teach yourself before class. He grades the pre-class problems as a quiz and will give you a 0 if you don't do it the way he wanted (which also includes the book's methods). Homework has nothing to do with the exams and the smallest mistake is points off.
Hey Tom. Let me help you out buddy. Let me reinform you on what you are hired to do my boy. TEACH PEOPLE STATISTICS. How are you gonna be a condesending wank whenever someone tries and asks you a question about YOUR curriculum.
just dont take this class.... go in person... this class is VERY fast paced mixing in pre calc in 2 months and trig in 3. an exam or 2 every month which are REALLY hard even tho its 10 questions. he gives you practice problems like a week before. he gives u like 3-2 hw math assignments most of the time including a quiz and discussion.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!! THIS PROFESSOR IS SO BAD!!!! he posted practice problems before the quiz and one of them wasn't even done correctly. I called him out on it in a message and he responded 5 days after the exam was already over. just does not care about his students it seems.
awful experience never take this class
He teaches with a flipped schedule, so you should expect to spend a fair bit of time at home learning the material, and then you also have to worry about the homework that he assigned. Most of his tests were also difficult, and we had 5 regular exams and then our final. However, he does give a slight curve, and the final replaced the lowest exam.
Bad communication and lack of care for students.
HW difficult and there is always one ridiculously diffiicult question. CW solutions had errors and steps did not make sense. Does not teach at all, just uplaods vague solutions. for ex the factorials steps were al wrong. Takes points off for everything. If you thought clas was meant for learning, its not. hes just getting paid to grade harshly.
Only take this class if you have a solid foundation in calc. If you're like the rest of us who had bad Calc 1 professors/teachers and went into it hoping to do a little review before moving forward with the course, you'll be sorely disappointed. Difficult to talk to, won't respond to emails, grades harshly, and quick to be passive-aggressive.
Tough class with an unconventional teaching style. Lots of self-study through YouTube videos and a free textbook, but the exams are brutal. unstuck study was a lifesaver for practice problems and exam prep.
This class was very difficult and you basically have to learn the material on your own. Class consisted of mainly working out problems in groups, if you are late multiple times or have to miss class, Tom will drop you even if he's told why you are absent. If you are a freshman with no college experience this class and professor is very overwhelming
Incredibly difficult and unfun. If you are 1 minute late to class, he will consider you absent and after 4 or 5 lates he will drop you as soon as he can. His tests are awful, and he doesn't give you any resources to help you; I know other reviews say this already, but never never never take a class with him. He's also plain rude.
This is a very tough class, and a bad teacher makes it much worse. You will have to learn everything from Youtube or other outlets. His tests are extremely difficult and he doesn't give partial credit. Doesn't keep grades up to date and doesn't respond to emails. Avoid this professor at all costs.
He has a very smug and rude attitude when it comes to teaching and doesn't respond to emails no matter the case. I don't understand why the College doesn't drop him as a professor because he clearly cannot teach or be compassionate towards students which is literally the main role for a professor.
If you take this professor you will either look back with a laugh at how brutal he was or with slight trauma. He can be harsh, but as tough as it was, he got me to do math properly. I mean that as in with proper notation and “mathematical grammar”. Not the best at 1 on 1 teaching but if you are resourceful and have thick skin you'll be just fine.
This may be the worst teacher I have ever had, zero participation with his online class. You will learn nothing, be prepared to do a lot of homework which is all worth only 20% of your grade. He will not respond to emails, all around not a nice guy, Avoid this class like the plague, Please fire this teacher, he is a danger to our generations future
This professor is the worst I've ever had. He makes it impossible for students to succeed and belittles them when they ask questions. If you're absent 3 times he can drop you. I have a 4.0 gpa and had to drop because I didn't want to tank my gpa. Don't take this class unless you want all online lectures, zero teaching, and insanely strict grading.
I dropped him on the first day. The way he explained his teaching method for Calculus is giving practice problems in class and assigning Youtube math videos for the lecture and book problems for homework. I've also never seen a professor with such a bad attitude towards students. I heard many people drop him or fail.
