best math teacher i've had in a while. very easy grader, awsome teaching methods, low workload, tho if u fall alseep in his class, expect to see camera's in ur face when u wake up
Awesome professor! Very helpful. Knows what he's talking about, teaches clearly and writes neatly. If you do all his homeworks and workshops, the tests will look very similar. He's lax on attendance and gives you a week grace period for homeworks and workshops. This guy's an A+ and a MUST-TAKE!
Really fun teacher. He's a good break from the other math professors. Gives a week grace period for homework and workshops. Homework is out of the book and every other week. If you fall asleep in class, he'll take your picture. so stay awake!
Easily the best teacher I've ever had. Unlike most of the math department, he doesn't take attendance, so if you know the material already, you don't have to show up every day to sit through boring review sessions. He also gives a week grace period on homeworks, which is good.
Excellent teacher and a great guy. If you can you should pick this teacher. You get homework once a week.
Prevendoski is awesome!
Excellent professor. I would take him again if I could. Do your work, show your work, and you'll be fine. Teaches well, doesn't try to trick you on tests or quizzed. Overall - GREAT!!
Awesome guy, very helpful. Interesting teaching style. Workshops definitely help with comprehension of new topics.
awsome guy. wickit helpful. if you go to his classes and show you care he will do everthing he can to help you out. wish i could have him as a teacher forever class
Very good teacher, keeps class light and entertaining while still getting everything. I would highly recommend him for any class.
Awesome guy and a great professor. He makes class fun and intersting with his humor. More importantly, he explains everything crystal-clear and is willing to do whatever it takes to get you to understand the material. Very fair grader. Only tests you on concepts that you need to know
Great professor. Very student-oriented, keeps class interesting and explains the material well. Less strict on attendance/assignments than other teachers, but still concerned for students' progress and always willing to help out.
Excellent professor. Extremely willing to help if you need it. I also like that we do workshops in class so you can test what you've learned before you get to the homework and realize you don't know a thing. Easily one of the best math instructors I have ever had.
Very good teacher, very good at explaining the material, very funny... Will pick on you for "dumb moves" but in a not mean way. Does not use WebAssaign =. Everything is written out on the board
Must have if you want to learn math with minimal studying needed. He explains everything in class, and the in class workshops clear anything you missed. He is flat out on what he expects and is a generous grader. He will help until you get it and approaches in multiple angles if needed. The class is fun and if you dont show up you are stupid.
he was awesome, very easily approachable, talks to you like an equal, and he is a really great teacher
This man is a walking God amongst math professors. He knows his material and can actually answer questions. His workshops are related to the work and the weekly Quizzes give us easy grades. Very fair and his sense of humor keeps the class from getting boring. A must take!
Had him for Calc A, B, and C. Kept the class interesting, lively, and was always available to help. Absolutely the best teacher I've ever had.
Hands down the best teacher around...all around great dude highly recommend.
A simply fantastic professor. If you are having trouble, taking him will fix it. If you aren't, its a fairly easy class. Homework is mandatory but relevant and light, and attendance is flexible. He's fun, friendly, and easily approachable. Don't fall asleep though! He WILL take your picture.
Fantastic professor, explains everything very well and he is very helpful if you have any questions. Doesn't care if you come to class as long as you get the work done that you miss and don't fail the tests. All around great guy too. Highly recommend you take his class if you're taking calc
Prof. Prevendoski is an awesome professor. He knows what he's doing and is fun and lively while teaching the class. He grades fairly and will pick fun if you make stupid mistakes. Over all, he's amazing and I plan on taking as many classes with him as I can!
The best math teacher I've ever had. He is very laid back and relaxed, which makes learning easier, and he talks in a way that's very easy to understand. He cares about his students and how they are doing, and will spend as much time as he needs to make sure everyone understands. Definitely take this professor.
really great teacher
Professor Prevendoski is amazing. He is funny and makes class so much fun. He will make sure the entire class understands the material before moving on. Attendance is not mandatory, but you must get all of your work done. He treats his students like equals and is very fair. If you can, TAKE HIM. You won't regret it.
He is a fantastic teacher, He really cares about his students and is always willing to do everything he can to help you get the material, He has even come in on his day off to help me a few times, thats says alot. I recommend him to anyone who wants to learn calc from the best professor on campus.
Prevodoski is a good prof, he presents the material very clearly and is always helpful with any question. Makes it clear what you will be tested on. Take him!
Calc Foundations I, really awesome teacher helpful and clear, weekly quizzes, homework and attendance are optional, but I highly suggest doing the homework just because if your new to that level of math it will help ALOT.
Prevendoski is a great teacher! He has a very good sense of humor and is never too serious about anything thus making a very relaxing atmosphere. His quizes are very easy and the homework are simple handouts that you can finish in class with the time he gives you.
He is by far the best math teacher I've ever had.... In my entire life. He has an awesome sense of humor and it's a really relaxing learning environment. Quizzes are easy. Our homework is done in class. Prof. Prevendoski, if you're reading this: you're downright awesome. TAKE THIS PROFESSOR.
Quite possibly the best Math teacher I have ever had. Made learning calculus a breeze. Highly recommend.
Great Teacher, Learned a lot and his off color humor adds to the class.
Best math teacher I've ever had in my life... His classes aren't mandatory, but if you don't go to class, good luck. He's really chill, EXTREMELY helpful, and makes learning calc a breeze... and fun!!! He makes his workshops hard on purpose, so that you do really well on his tests and quizzes. Take this professor!!!
Easily the best professor in the department. If somehow his class is not full, its an automatic add.
AWESOME professor. Easily my favorite professor thus far. He is very easy to understand, and workshops go over exactly what you know, no surprises. Tests/quizzes are possibly the easiest I have taken in my life. He is hilarious to boot, so take it you can!
Amazing professor. loves to joke with students and is really good at explaining techniques and concepts. he doesn't waste time doing proofs for the tecniques, just wants you to be able to use them. workshops are homework so if you finish in class you have no homework.
Amazing teacher. Keeps the class just serious enough to work, but not too serious, so it doesn't feel like you're being lectured at.
Awesome Professor, Really Easy, Easy to understand. Barely any HW, no textbook required and really funny. You will learn a lot
Best professor I've had, by far!!! I enjoyed going to class. He always made class fun and entertaining. Class work is easy and projects are too. I would take a class just because he was teaching even if I didn't need the class.
Great professor, lectures are understandable and he makes them really easy to comprehend. Classes are always interesting and as long as you try the class is easy.
Great professor. His lectures are simple and easy to understand. He assigns weekly workshop for a group to work on. Workshops are helpful for practicing for weekly quizzes that are given out at the last class of week. Quizzes are fair. There are no trick questions. He is the best math professor I ever had in my all classes in RIT.
Awesome Teacher, you will learn a lot. He explain the material very clearly, barely any homework, no attendance requirement. Must take for Calc.
Prof P is awesome! Really helpful, really lenient, will give up valuable personal time to help students in need. Really predictable quizzes and finals, really wonderful instructor. Just don't fall asleep in class - though attendance isn't optional, so if you already know the material you can just show up on test days. Highly recommended!
One of the overall best professors that I ever had. He did a good job of presenting the material and he was extremely available during his office hours. Very amusing and his class is more laid-back than any other math class that I've ever had. With this said, he doesn't do the best job of preparing you for the core and higher-level math courses
Tom is a great instructor for this course. He conveys the material in a very strong and understandable manner.
Nice guy. Good professor.
He a good teacher. The class is extremely laid back. He gives a workshop every class. Get it done during class and you have no homework. Attendance is optional.
Professor Prevendoski, in my opinion, is the best professor you can take calculus with. He really cares about your education, and does his best to make the class environment hilarious.
I've tried 4 RIT MATH profs & Tom is the best ever! Take-home WS, 1 mid-term, few quizzes (drops the lowest), 0 homework! No need to show up ALA U submit the on time. I enjoy lecture & no rush to finish WS with 1 hour, U have 2 DAYS to do! Even though there is no HW, U should practice some extra problems your own unless U R REALLY good in MATH.
Very helpful in partial credits. Gives 6 easy quizzes and 1 relatively hard midterm. Doesn't require too much work. Attendance is optional as long as you understand and you have someone to submit the workshop for you.
The other reviews on here must be from other apologetically brash people, because this professor was exceedingly abrasive towards students who were shy or clearly uninterested in his singling out of students. Overall, his teaching methods were good, but the hostile learning environment made engaging very difficult.
Great teacher. Asks for anonymous ways to change the class and does something based on recommendations. Main concern is for you to pass the class which is great.
Super easy to understand, helpful and really funny. As long as you show up to class and do the work you're supposed to do, you're golden.
Prevendoski is by far the best math teacher I've ever had. He makes things so simple and if you don't understand something ask him to re-explain it and does a great job re-explaining the topic.
Tom honestly made statistics work for me. I went into the class just hoping for the best and praying I would understand some of it. Fortunately, he made me WANT to learn; this class was so much better than I thought it would be, because of him.
Tom is great professor for entire semester.. I had B average for whole semester. BUT on final exam, he made many questions that you haven't learned and makes you fail. He is dirty professor and pulls your grade down easily for final exam only. Final exam consumes your time easily. Pretty disappointed in him and terrible ending with him.
He is a great teacher, he goes over each section very well and is very funny during lectures! He makes sure that he is teaching well by letting students give him anonymous feedback halfway through the semester. He is very fair and the class requires effort!
I took this non credit course called MATH90, you watched videos for hmk, come in and do the classwork independently, or with others and left when you were finished. He would of course assign tests or quizzes so don't be a slacker, I loved the structure of this class and would do it again for any math course!
maybe I am just bad in chemistry and science
Tom is one of the best Professors I have ever had. He's not only great at teaching all the material you need, but he also does it in a fun way. Attendance is not really mandatory, but he does take it just to be able to show anyone would might ask why you aren't doing so well in his class. Very far with grading.
Tom is a really amazing teacher. He's into Doctor Who and all that sci-fi jazz, so if you're into that kind of thing then you've come to the right place. He's funny and very easy to talk to. All homework assignments are clearly laid out in the syllabus, no surprises. Usually they're decently short and there's never more than one a week.
Tom really knows how to make excellent jokes about math and other stuff to make lectures lively. He cares about students a lot, especially those who are weak in math, as he never wants anyone to hide confusion or trouble understanding. He shows many brilliant tips to solve complex problems. Overall, he devotes to teaching.
i just left math 211. we had integration review day to prepare us for what is coming up in that class. i had no idea how to integrate. thats cuz i had tom for the class before this. he was not preparing us for this class. or anything else. i thought he was a good teacher but i was wrong. avoid. try to take calc with someone else.
Prevendoski has to be my favorite math professor since I came to RIT. He somehow manages to be funny, relatable, and sarcastic, all while actually making Calculus understandable. It's the normal work load, but he gives you a lot of opportunities to make up any points you may lose, so it all rounds out in the end. TL;DR, 5/7 perfect score
Tom is the man, I took him for MATH171 and refused to take MATH172 with anyone else but him. His lecture style actually shows how formulas are derived. Instead of the typical "here just memorize this", he thoroughly goes through the formula and provides many examples of how to use them. There's never a dull moment, he makes math fun.
Tom is a really caring professor. He's dedicated to your success and you just need to ask for help if you don't understand something. He always pauses to make sure everyone understands something before moving on. He claims to be a big jerk but he's really the biggest softie. The topics can be a bit difficult, but no more than usual.
Tom is great. Tests are a big part of your grade and are all inclusive, so make sure you do his review packets he posts. His lectures aren't boring and usually end 10 minutes early, and he has office hours every day of the week. Isn't afraid to tell you exactly what you should know for the tests and help you learn it.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS HE IS TERRIBLE.
Hes not a bad guy, just doesn't teach. Has you buy mymathlab access (which is pricey), and just go through that on your own for the whole course. Uses class zoom time just for questions. When students complained he didn't teach, he did not do anything with the criticism other than restate he's open for questions. Fine if you know your stuff already
Makes uncomfortable jokes and writes everything on the chalkboard in an outdated manner. If you go to get help he tries but does not succeed. I was left having to learn everything on my own while he ranted on about Weird Al and his favorite musicians.
Tom made math more enjoyable by making it a liberal-arts based math course. Participation and attendance not mandatory. We had about 6 easy quizzes throughout the semester along with short response essays or homework based on real life masthematical events every week. Super easy to pass.
Great Guy! Lot's of homework but it's super short. Explanations were very clear and easy to understand.
He is great! He really cares about his students and whether they succeed or not. He is very willing to take feedback from his students. Multiple times he adjusted his teaching method to make it less lecture and more practice problems to fit the needs of his students. He is very accommodating and understanding. I would absolutely take him again.
Tom was the best. I had him twice in the same year. He was very funny, a great teacher, and genuinely cared about how his students do. Would 10000000% recommend.
Tom is a great professor overall. He often goes on side tangents and loves to engage with his students. His assignments are pretty easy and he grades your homework based on how much effort you put into it. He drops the lowest quiz grade and homework grade. I would definitely take his class if you are looking for an easy A and a great professor.
Tom is very chill and lenient. If you do the homework and two reports, you will get an A. No final or midterm, just two (easy) 5 page reports for the semester. He is an easy grader but can be annoying when going off on tangents about video games. Other than that, super chill, not that great of a teacher, but super easy A to fill in a gen-ed.
He is a great professor and teaches with lots of notes and examples. The one thing that got me is he only had homework and exams as grades. If you are not a good test taker, the homework will not suffice to bring your grade up. If you are, you should be fine. I would have liked if he provided quizzes or worksheets to help with grades and knowledge.
the only thing i didn't like about tom's class is the fact that how much of the weight of the class was exams. the homework barely did anything and was only ever out of 5 or 10 points. but if you go to his office hours and engage in lectures, he'll make sure the material is coming clear to you in a way you can understand it. super nice guy.
I want more details of what assignments to do before turning them in. Instead of trying to figure out what the lessons are about or how to do them, especially when it comes to essays. I'd do better if I could see the instructions on what to do for the reports, answering questions, etc.
Great professor, has exactly what is needed for the job, builds a great learning environment in his classroom.
He is such a good professor. He does a great job teaching the material in a way that is easy to understand. He is very communicative about office hours, changes to the schedule, etc. He does assign longer homework assignments but if you pay attention in class it should be easy to do. Same case with quizzes too. Definitely recommend the professor.
Great professor! Tries to be funny and jokes with students. He builds good relationships in class. However, the overall grade was heavily based on exams so if you did bad on one it hurt you pretty bad. Exams were like 1/3 MC and 2/3 free response and he gave partial credit as much as he could. I hate math, but I got through it.
He needs to focus more on teaching the material rather than trying to be funny and relatable. He also makes fun of the students which can be seen as funny, but it does not help create a good class atmosphere. Other than that great.
He had COVID at one point and assumed most of us wanted him to show up. This left a bad taste in my mouth. While as a prof, he was good teacher and easy to follow. However, he picks on people and they can be offensive. It was uncomfortable, at least for me, in his class.
Attendance isnt mandatory in this class. Also there are 4 tests and like 30 hw assignments 5 lowest assignments get droped and lowest test score gets droped. There is also a final in this class. Overall I cant complain I showed up to his class only for tests and still passed.
As someone who is not a "math person", Tom made the concepts easy to understand, and had lots of out-of-class office hours to help if you didn't quite get it. His teaching style is fun and engaging, and connects with students really well.
I loved this professor. Very funny and taught math in a way that helped me understand it better. As someone who hates math and isn't good at it, he definitely helped me grasp concepts I never grasped before
great professor. I STRUGGLED with calculus a lot in highschool so I was terrified for calc. I would 100% take him again. Attendance is not mandatory, but it will be incredibly hard to pass the class if you don't go to lecture. Participation def matters but he WILL make sure u understand content if u ask questions. he also has good test prep options
Not a great professor.
