He is definately an easier philosophy teacher than Dutra.
Dude is kind of crazy - but I have learned a lot
He was a very interesting guy and he made class fun. A bit of a nutty professor but in a good way. Very liberal on topics for writing.
He is a decent teacher. Kind of boring, and a little on the odd side, but overall a nice guy.
very nice guy. i'd recommend taking him for any philosophy class.
Lots of discussion. He is very nice, kinda nutty
My favorite professor of all time. He totally kept me interested and he was so cute in a loveable sort of way!
He is amazingly smart! I learned a lot and it was not a hard class.
Spademan was a great teacher for the Religion class. He was very interested, knew his stuff, and encouraged group discussion. This is one of the best classes I've ever had.
Very much enjoyed this professor - kinda a difficult class for me but he made it possible to get an A. Would definately recommend.
Philsophy is a tough sell, but Spademan does it best. He is a great speaker, and you will learn from his lectures. Be sure to take the Spade, stay away from the Dultra.
had him for 2 classes. phil ethics, phil of death. great guy. super nice. reminds me a trekie, but that s not a bad thing, really wierd but really helpful and knows his topic.by far the best phil teacher at mott from what ive seen/heard
Great class. I had fun I enjoyed the papers we had to write. However some of the reading was boring but the discussions were awesome!! I would take a class of his again!!!!
I like having him for a teacher. He is interesting and seems to love to teach.
EASY EASY EASY...and kinda fun too (if you like thinking alot) dont do the readings, show up for class half the time, just write the papers and you should get at least a 3.0 easily
Intelligent, humble, funny professor. I have mixed feelings about class. He's enthusiastic about the subject (religion), but didn't go to school for it. I learned a lot, but would've liked "professional" insight at times. Overall, good class. Ea
Really nice teacher. I had problems in the class from it all being boring, but it was in no way his fault. Very enthusiastic about the subject at hand. Enjoyed his teachings even if the class was boring. Would take him for another subject if possible.
Awsome prof. if you want an easy A, you need to take this class. 3 papers that you cna redo untill you get the grade you want. That is alll the work!!! if you like Phil, you will love the inclass discussions, I did. if not, just ignor it.
super competant, uber-knowledgable, and accesible teaching style. quality prof who should be writing books and making mad cash.
Great guy, great teacher. Very passionate about his subject. Will help if you don't understand. Reading material hard to understand, but he explains & loves to debate. Fun if you participate. Would love to take him again.
Odd, simple, uninteresting, I did not agree with most of his thoughts, but easy.
Spademan is by far one of the best teachers. He does not push any time limits, he doesn't like to test. And he is a very good natured man, who cares about his students. By far I will say he is one of the most passionate teachers. So take his class..He uses his sons drawings on his text books.
What can I say about Spademan, One of the best teachers Mott has, he is passionate about his field, allows for great class room discussion, I real enjoyed the class. Take his World Religion Class. It was awesome
he is a fellow musician and is very nice and knowledgeable And he is an optimist!
the class would have been interesting if he would have told the guys to put away the phones, the 2 in the front to shut up and the big guy in the back to stop making noise or get out. the class was constantly being disrupted he's got no guts to tell anyone to shut up or get the hell out!
Spademan is a really nice teacher but the material is so boring good luck staying awake. No test just three papers to write and you can redo them if you mess up. But like I said good luck staying awake very dull and dry material
very easy and lerned a lot
Wonderful class! Spademan has great ideas and is very involved with the class. He is very informative and sticks to the religions orginal text- he's not bad to look at either ;). Loved it and would love to take a class with him again.
Boring.. but Mr. Spademan is very cool =)
very interesting and fun makes class easy to understand
Mr. Spademan is an exellent teacher. He incorporates humor in his lectures and is very good at answering questions (as opposed to dodging the bullet). His only flaw is that he gets so excited with his lecture that he gets carried away, So it makes it kinda hard to take notes. Best of all no test! He does give lenthy HW assignments thought.
Very nice instructor, and very helpful. Made class fun!
Yom Spademan is the best teacher I've had at Mott. That's saying a lot since I've been attending over a period of 25 years!
Spademan is very passionate about what he teaches and therefor makes it easy to understand and entertaining as well...he has a very cool, kind of goofy sense of humor, def my fave teacher by far
In my many years of college this is the best prof. i have had.He makes you like the subject even if you do not want to.He has a genuine concern for your doing well.I can not say enough good statements regarding him. THE BEST!!!!
He is nice to students and very knowledgeable about philosophy. His class was really enjoyable and he is easy to talk to.
I dropped the class after 3 weeks because he had absolutely no control over his classroom. I don't think I'd ever take another class he was teaching.
excellent professor. imo, better than dutra
Tom is an energetic and classy guy. He plays a mean solo and doesn't just depend on rote scales. Philosophically I would have to say he partakes too much of the existentialist theories. Does existentialism still exist?
Tom is awesome. All you have to do is participate in the disscussion and youll get a 4.0
He is always energetic and practically gives answers away if you are stumped. The class is based on mechanical thinking and is very simple once you learn the process. Great teacher, everybody should have him!
Spademan is a great professor! I didn't want to take the class, but he makes it fun. He's so energetic and easy going. Anyone can ace the class if you do your assignments (there arn't many!) If you have to take a philosophy class, take Spademan.
Cool teacher. Very laid back. I didn't really get the course material, but I tried to make sense of it, and he was always very fair with grading papers. Plus I like his impressions and mannerisms; it makes the class fun. He likes to stomp his penny loafers and it made me giggle. If you have to take Philosophy, take Spademan.
GREAT PROFESSOR!
Great professor. We had 5 take home exams and he said you only had a week to do them but then gave us two. even seen people take 3 + 4 and still got full credit. I took them all to the tutor center and had Josh do them with me and got a 4.0 We started out haveing in class quizes but Tom said too many people were doing bad so he stoped them. AAA+++
Professor Spademan is with out a doubt the best instructor at this school. If your goal is to learn as much as you can in the are of Philosophy, he would be the person to learn from. He is one of the most intelligent and informed instructors that I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Awesome AWESOME guy!
Spademan is Awesome! Definitely take this class is you need to take Philosophy...He is an amazing teacher with a passion in what he does...Very easy-going and laid back =) HE PRETTY MUCH ROCKS! As for assignments there are only 2-3 papers that u do throughout the semester and you can redo them as many times as u need to get that A! No hw or tests!
Amazing professor, very interested in the subject and in the students. Explains things completely and expects questions. Very few assignments, grading was easy.
great class! One of the few professors I can respect. He is not impressed by his own intellegence and relates to students on a level anyone with half a brain can understand. It may not be your cup of tea and it can be difficult, but he is fair. He encorages discussion and treats all opinions respectfully. Altogether a wonderful experience.
Great teacher! Highly intelligent but does not flaunt it or belittle students. Trusts his students to do the reading and the work.
He is a very helpful teacher. I thought the material was sort of hard, but I went to the tutors and got a 4.0 in this class. It still consists of 5 take home exams, and he gives normally 1-2 weeks for you to do them. If you come to class, you should do fine. If you get lost, ask him for help, he is always trying to get the A for his students!
spademan is very decent! he is the most laid back and relaxed professor i have ever had at mott. he actually wants his students to do well in his class, and he is not demanding.he is awsome!!!!
Dr. Spademan is probably one of the best teachers at Mott.
The good-Easy A, write three papers and your in. The bad- hard time getting him to class or in his office-skips a lot and not always motivated. Doesn't always interpret the topic correctly even though he has a vast intellect of philosophy knowledge. However, he does make you think and that's worth taking the class.
Dr. Spademan is a great teacher! By far my favorite teacher. Very wise. Wants to see his students do well and is more than willing to help if anyone needs it.
Only a mid term, final and a paper. He really tries to make things interesting and encourages group discussion. Great prof if you're going to take a philosophy class.
He is the teacher that you always wanted! He knows what hes talking about and loves teaching! By far the best teacher at MOTT. I take his classes just because he is teaching them. I'm glad I have him as a teacher!
Awsome teacher fun no homework all you have to do is write 3 papers in the semester all do at the end of the semester.
great instructor very amusing' very interested what you have to say . its sort of an easy class. i try my best to wrap my thinking process about socrates
If you have to take philosophy I would seriously recommend taking him. Now if you don't have to for god's sake DON'T DO IT! But in all seriousness the class is pretty much a cake walk. If you need an easy class, this is definitely one of your best bets and some stuff really is interesting. It helps a lot if you have a talkative class.
The class is very easy! Three take home quiz, two four page papers. I liked the class, but it can be very boring at times. He is a great professor and a nice guy!
Fantastic, helpful & interesting. I wasn't terribly interested in PHIL courses but needed to round out my classes. He's interesting, VERY smart, easy going & really just wants the students to learn the material. No 'got ya' tests and lets you re-write your paper for a better grade. None Better, I'm hooked & taking him again!
Wicked smart. Easy going and really just wants the students to learn. Totally into class participation and respects all opinions. This is what a good teacher should be. A+ You won't regret taking any course he teaches!
this guy is the greatest phil professor at mott, take him!
Took for Phil 101, and Ethics 5 years ago. Still one of the best professors ever! No book, handed out what you were supposed to read, didn't have to, he explained everything in lamens terms. 4 Papers = A+! Extremely knowledgable! Very engaging class. Would LOVE to take again.
I am not a fan of philosophy. So this class about bored me to tears. It was an easy class, work wise though. Just the take home quizzes and two papers. Be passionate about your papers and your topics and its an easy 4.0, even if he does not agree with your point of view. After all, there is no wrong philosophy...right?
I love him. I would take him again in a heart beat. He supplied the text book to the students and asked for a small donation (not mandatory to pay). He is really funny and an easy going professor. Dr. Spademan rules!
Intelligent, easygoing, practical: it's honestly stupid not to take him if given opportunity.
He's an awesome teacher, the class content was a little confusing but there were no tests, just take home assignments that were kind of hard. I thoroughly enjoyed the class though!
He is honestly THE BEST professor Ive ever had. He is hilarious and keeps your attention all while teaching a philosophy class, which you forget you are in most of the time.
This was a fairly easy class. Reading about some philosophers was interesting, but some were very boring. Mr. S made this class interesting.
Dr. Spademan is one of the best professors I've ever had! He is a perfect example of what a teacher should be! He is super goofy, at first I was like, "what is up with this guy?" But he is always cracking me up!! Seriously the best PHIL teacher!! I'm SO glad he is my first teacher in the morning : ) (and I don't like school or the morning)
Easiest teacher at Mott. Yet he is also the most lazy. Horrible when it comes to grading and getting your paper back. Do not take any of his classes unless you are looking for a blow off class. Keep all your papers because he'll just throw you a random grade at the end of the semester. He can't give everyone a 4.0 even if they deserve it.
Spademan is a good professor. He seemed down to earth in an 'I'm imperfect just like everybody else' type of way, and he had a good sense of humor and passion for teaching philosophy. Unfortunately, you don't learn much in his class due to his annoying tendency to play the role of maestro during meaningless, ongoing class discussions.
I have professor Spademan for Existentialism. This class turned out to be different than I excepted (it's a hard philosophy to grasp & all the people in the class are VERY anti-religion, to where they are degrading EXCEPT the professor. He is always respectful) He only grades on 3 papers. He has notes ready for each class that are so helpful. :)
Professor Spademan is extremely laid-back and nice. He's funny, but doesn't let that take over his lectures. He's a really smart man and its great to be in his class. He only grades on 3 papers and attendance isnt mandatory (although it is for financial aid). Take Spademan if you have a chance :)
Great teacher his lectors are worth the price of admission. He is a very intellect person, but is very down to earth.
GREAT!!!
Smartest man at Mott.
I enjoy the class, the topics covered, and the way he teaches. The only problem with the class is that it's filled with people that think they know more than he does.
Ethics is just plain boring! If you don't have to take it don't!!! Yes, he cracks jokes, but if you don't understand stuff that happened 1,000 years ago or if it doesn't interest you then you are going to be lost in the class the whole time.
Ethics oh wow how I did not want to take the class. Nothing about the title even begins to fasinate me. But required to take it I decided to take this class. I took it as a three hour lecture to. I managed to stay awake the whole time. It was fasinating after all class discussions and his sense of humor were totally worth it. Find out for yourself.
Very easy class. After having multiple attempts to get a 2.5 or higher in humanities I wasn't looking forward to this class. Turns out your whole grade consists of two essays and 4 quizzes ALL WHICH YOU CAN TAKE HOME so overall easy class
Great Professor, by far the most intelligent man at Mott. Through 3 weeks, I'm impressed, he is very humorous, and keeps you awake with this during class!, although, he tends to get off track all the time from what's supposed to be discussed in class. Probably wont miss much if you miss a day or two either. Overall, great professor!
Spademan is the reason I changed my degree to Philosophy from Poli.Sci. He is an incredible teacher. He was the best professor hands down at MCC.
Best professor I've ever had. If you show up pay attention you will learn. He keeps students involved by being interesting and knowing how to keep the classes attention, not a boring class. I did midd 3 classes. Instead of paying 180$ for text he printed out packets for each chapter. Hr should have a class to teach professors @ Mott. Not in it 4$
He's a very fun and interesting teacher. Often goes off on a tangent. He is very unorganized. Cancels class a lot.
Very knowledgeable. He can get "off topic", but he does a great job of relating it back to the subject. He gives the students every bit of interesting information to help them learn. Very impressed with this professor. You can tell he loves the subject
I tried my best in the class, came everyday and participated. Hes not 2 great on helping people, always seems rushed & not interested in helping u only the ppl who where getting it. When asking for help he would say, "you got this". I would think to myself ummm no I dont or I wouldnt be here looking for help before and after class!
Spademan was a great professor. He was the first professor at Mott that I felt like I learned from. He does get off topic in his discussions but usually relates it back and is interesting. He is passionate about what he teaches. Work isn't hard if you listen. If you explain why you missed class (and don't do it often) he will mark you as present.
One of my favorite professors, very easy going. Homework is 80% of your grade and 20% is the mid term and final but as long as you pay attention in class the homework should be easy. It was a weird class but nevertheless interesting for sure. I would highly recommend this teacher for any philosophy class you need to take.
Mr. Spademan is very nice and helpful. His class is an easy A. However he's very unorganized and takes forever to get stuff back. I don't feel I learned very much but I also wasn't all that intrested in the subject. He's very easy going and down to earth. He also tells funny stories.
Worst class ever!! He is not ready to listen, the most stubborn person with fixed notions, doesn't show up for classes half the time. The stuff he talks about is boring. Didn't learn anything from him
Truth: Tom Spaceman is the smartest man I think I have ever met. He is highly educated, but down to earth and so kind. I was so out of my league with logic, but he got me through it, somehow! Loved by faculty and students for a reason. He is a professor I will remember for a lifetime for his compassion for people and desire to educate others.
Tom Spademan is an awesome professor, he really opens your mind up to think differently. Make sure you attend class, his lectures give you alot of information you will need to understand the readings, quizzes, and papers you will have to write.
I highly recommend Tom Spademan for any class, he is awesome! Make sure you attend class though, his lectures give you alot of information you will need to understand the readings, quizzes, and papers you will have to write.
The most easiest teacher ever! For sure take this class in the summer 5 take home quizes and 2 essays! Find someone in class to work together with BOOM! 4.0. Summer is fast so he dosen't really care. Skip class you still pass just make sure you turn in all the work. Very unorganized tho may loose your paper but he will find it and grade it on spot!
I took him for intro to logic. He was an amazing teacher! However, he does go off topic a lot because of the students. Our grade was entirely weekly take home tests. Easiest class ever. Hes also willing to help and replies back to emails rather quickly!
This class is harder than what one would expect at a community college but worth it if you're not there just to get credit. Expect to have to pay attention in class in order to understand the topics given for papers and answers for tests. He'll go over tests (which are take-home) and his lecture notes are included in the back of the book.
Hate seeing reviews saying there was too much work. This is a college course. Work was fitting, but very easy. If you get lost in class, everything you need is in text (which he created for the class that is only $10 vs $150+ you would pay with any other teacher). Had him for 2 classes and v happy. Be open to learn the content, not to prove wrong.
Dr. Spademan is a true gem. He lectures quite a bit, the work load is do-able and he truly cares and wants you to do well. If you're willing to put in the time and effort he's willing to help you. Would take him for ANY class he teaches Philosophy
Few assignments were given. Only two essays throughout the semester. Very nice and fair professor. Definitely recommend taking Dr. Spademan
Wonderful professor. Very detailed course. Ive learned a lot. Please buy the book, I didn't have enough for the lab book and ended up failing with an F. He's a fantastic teacher overall. You will need your lab book and textbook. Would recommend for all bio courses.
You guys, Professor Spademan is as good as they come. He is by far my favorite professor at Mott. He is so laid-back and is genuinely interested in teaching Philosophy. I took him for both PHIL-101 and Ethics and enjoyed both classes immensely. I wish I could bring him with me to UM-Flint. Take his classes; you WILL NOT regret it.
Dr. Spademan was such a laid-back, kind professor. His syllabus shows his grading criteria and mandatory attendance rules. He was always accessible after class, or over email. Your whole grade is based on homework (but if you miss more than 2 classes the syllabus states he will begin to drop your grade), so there are no quizzes, tests or projects.
Dr. Spademan is a very good professor. You can tell he actually is interested in the subject he is teaching and makes an effort to make the class as informative as it possibly could be. A couple of papers that you have to do but, his goal as a teacher is for everyone to get an A. Do the work and you should be good! Don't miss class though
Spademan is an awesome professor. I took his intro to Philosophy course. Follow his direction on his assignments and you'll do fine. Would definitely take one of his classes again.
I've been in college for a few years and professor spademan is one of my favorite professors. If you want a funny professor that is easy going and makes learning fun then take any class with him.
10+ years later & still one of the coolest people Ive ever met. Amazing, life changing lectures that you will remember forever. Humorous speaker. If you cant understand the philosophy you will at least be able to get in on the laughs. Spademan is a genuinely happy professor who is excited to teach and challenge students. Supportive mentor.
Great Professor, with an awesome personality. Philosophy is not an easy class, and Professor Spademan made it a lot of fun. You do have to read quite a bit, but he also gives you "Tom's Notes" on the readings, so you not only read the original, you read his notes, and then he follows it with a lecture, which is helpful in learning this material.
Gives extensions if you need them. Very understanding and Kind, Ive taken him for 2 different classes and he has been wonderful each time.
For Prof. Spademans class we did a zoom once/week and a quiz once/week that was related to what he lectured about that week. We also had a couple papers to do but he is willing to give extensions and willing to do zooms outside of class for extra help. He didnt require you to be in the zoom class each week but it makes the class a lot easier.
This teacher was amazing ! he made great youtube videos for you to watch about the course material, one of the best teachers I've ever had. Mostly quiz assignments and one paper, not to bad.
Mr. Spademan was amazing. He had weekly videos of the lecture with a transcript as well. Weekly quizzes and two essays. Super easy, super helpful, would definitely take a class by him again!
I've taken Professor Spademan for Into to Philosophy, Critical Thinking, and Ethics. All courses were online. His lecture videos are always interesting and engaging. He is not a super harsh grader with papers, and he gives you loads of thought-provoking feedback. He is so knowledgeable and always reachable. He is truly a great teacher.
He explains things very well and gives good examples. He is a nice guy and a great professor. I would take his class again for sure.
One of the best teachers I have had at Mott. For my class, we had a 40-60 minute lecture video to watch each week. These videos were always very entertaining and informative. Gives great feedback on assignments.
Spademan's classes are engaging and manageable. The textbook he created is super affordable and covers the material well. With a little effort and regularity, you can ace this course. Unstuck ai was a lifesaver for practice quizzes and essay prep.
He is a professor that is caring and wants his students to succeed. He also encourages us to write what we're passionate about and wants us to enjoy his class. I took his course online and he posted some great lecture videos. You can tell he's passionate about what he teaches.
