Funny, funny man. Makes class interesting and has great slides. Makes astronomy amusing.

He really is one of the best teachers at UK. HE has the ablity to make boring crap fun.

He is a great teacher. His class is fun, and he gets off onto wild, funny tangents. His tests are hard if you don't go to class or study. I wouldn't take any other teacher for astronomy.

Troland is one outstanding prof. He knows his astronomy, knows how to teach it, knows how to get it across to his students, and knows how to make it an enjoyable experience!

This man is great! If you go to class and read then it is an easy A (and most importantly to me - got one of my science credits out of the way). Highly recommended. He is a very funny man. Take his class!

Very energetic

Not exactly an easy A, but a relatively easy class. Troland makes the class fun, and is always very energetic. I'd suggest him if you're looking to get some science credits out of the way, because it's possible to get an A, and he's a great guy. He also puts notes online.

don't take his class if you're looking for an easy A, but if you're willing to study, sign up! he's an awesome teacher; you can tell he loves his job. he's great.

In four years of college this is the easiest class i have ever taken. there are about 1.5 chapters on each test and all multiple choice a must take!

I really like this proffessor. He is crazy and I don't mind going to class. His tests are pretty hard, but he puts several "Questions for the previous class" that he goes over every day on his tests.

Probably the best professor at UK. Very enthusiastic and dedicated. If you don't like him, there's something very wrong with you.

I highly recommend him. He makes the subject very interesting and knows how to please his audience. Very funny guy. Extremely easy tests and in-class writing prompts (you can use notes for the prompts and it only takes five minutes to answer them). His notes are very helpful.

Amazing teacher, and hilarious. There's even been a Facebook group devoted to him; "Professor Troland is the****!" Take him for Astronomy if you ever get the honor.

I've never been in a large lecture classroom that, on a normal day, was more the 60% full. I think it's saying something that this classroom is ALWAYS full, that everyone manages to drag themselves in to attend this class. Immensely enjoyable class, funny, enthusiastic professor. Obviously loves his field and makes you want to love it too.

If he was any more badass he'd be chuck norris. BWAHAHA.

Prof. Troland is soo funny. He keeps you very entertained, very enthusiastic about teaching and encourages questions. But his tests catch you off gaurd, takes time to know the material.

Troland makes learning about astronomy so easy adn fun. If you go to class (which there are in class assignments) he teaches right off power points (which he does not put online) but he just reads them and if you take notes and are there for the in class review questions from the last class you barely have to study for the tests.

He has the most personality out of all professors I have had at UK and he makes every class interesting.

Hands down one of my favorite teachers. I took both AST 191 and 192. Very easy class if you go to class and take notes. All questions on the test are on practice tests. He makes class so fun and interesting that it is hard to miss!

I was an allright class. He is a great guy and really funny, but the class lulls towards the end. Tests are kind of hard, you have to know all the stupid little facts and numbers. Overall a fun class and I learned alot!

He was a great teacher! He is very funny and that helps keep the class entertaining. His tests are pretty tricky and they were not what I expected. Overall, he was great and I am taking AST 192 next semester.

Excellent teacher. The notes given during class are very clear, and he is very clear with what he expects from his students. His tests aren't hard if you go to class and you study a little bit for them. I am taking AST 192 next semester only because he will be teaching the course.

The penultimate goofy Physics professor you've always wanted to have. He mentions at the beginning that his teaching is so efficient that you don't need the book, and he's right. He pauses lectures to go on with a joke all the time, but still manages to cover all the material very clearly. Don't hesitate one second to take this class.

Best teacher at UK. The only complaint I can think of is his tests. They cover a lot of material.

I took Bad A** Tommy T for both 191 and 192. He is my favorite professor on this campus. He is funny and interesting and really loves teaching. His tests can be tricky, but he gives out 5% bonus on your overall grade...can't beat that.

Great professor. Definitely in my top 3 as far as interesting personal stories and current events. I think the boring class topic is the overall weakness. Even though he manages to be a really great guy, he sucker punches you with hard exams. Be prepared for those.

Most fun professor ive ever had. He is a twisted genius and is a suave older guy. Easy class, subject is mildly interesting but you should not go to UK and never experience a Tom Troland class

LOVE this class. LOVE this professor. I'm actually shocked that people are saying his exams are hard or tricky-I don't think so at all. Go to class (it's fun!) and take a bit of time to study and you will do great. As many have said-don't pass up the chance to take a class with Troland. One of UK's best!

His class was super fun! So funny, I laughed every class. His tests can be hard - super detail oriented and you need to be able to apply concepts. Don't miss too much class because you can miss (12) writing assignments that are random and part of your grade and tests are based on class notes. Do NOT buy the book you won't need it.

i have no interest in astronomy and he actually made the class interesting for me. he's very funny but its hard to study for tests because all you have is lecture notes. you have no homework. must go to class for random writing assignments.

He does not put the notes online, so you have to go to the class to get them, but as long as you study for the exams it's easy, test q's are straight from pp slides,he's a funny guy but likes to call on you if you have a laptop. take notes on paper.

Funny Guy, my favorite professor on UK's campus!

I rarely went to class and got an A. This is basic science stuff, pretty damn hard to fail. I skipped his class 5 times in a row and the 6th which landed on a Friday I got **** in class. The "Random" quizzes are pretty easy to predict. Find a good wall to cuddle with and take a nap. Or do like I did and pregrame for Friday night. BEERONOMY!!

The coolest prof I've had so far. In terms of content, the class can get pretty boring, but Troland always manages to keep you interested. A very funny and entertaining guy. Attendance isn't mandatory, but it's the only way you can get the notes. Tests are fairly easy as well; taken straight from questions in his powerpoints. I highly recommend him

Very good professor, very good class to take as an elective. He takes very complicated subject matter and brings it down to a learning level that you can understand for someone who has had no prior experience in this subject matter. If you attend class you are most likely guaranteed an A.

HILARIOUS. He's my favorite professor. Definitely take this class as an elective or to take care of a science pre-req. He gives short writing questions like once every two weeks which are extremely easy. Attendance isn't mandatory but no one ever wanted to miss! He makes it interesting and enjoyable. TAKE HIS AST 192 CLASS!

Awesome teacher. Made the class really funny. Tests aren't too hard just study your notes. And he will always answer a question you have. Great teacher, my favorite so far.

Coming from a student who attended every class this semester, Dr. Troland made EVERY class very fun & entertaining! He is consistent in his teaching habits, and is always willing to take as much time needed to fully answer a student's question(s). Your notes are your exams. If you understand that, then you will attend every class. Peace and Bourbon

What's not to like about Troland?

One of my favorite teachers ever! He's funny and keeps class informative and interesting. He really interacts with the students and makes the whole class seem more interested! He's great!!

Take this class. You will not regret it. Fantastic class with a fantastic teacher. I took it my first semester and it was by far my favorite class that semester. I really can't say enough about this class and Professor Troland. Absolutely fantastic class with a hysterical, helpful teacher.

I took both AST 192 and 191, and 192 was definitely easier. 192 is a little more boring, but he is still a funny guy and really really knows his stuff. Good to take if you need USP Nat Sci credits.

This guy is awesome! Makes class entertaining, while teaching information at the same time. Don't miss out on this guy. Tests can be a little tricky, but if you write down the "Questions of the Day", then it will be an easy class.

Be Professor ever!!! Makes class fun

Simply the best professor every. He's super funny and makes the class really interesting. Tests aren't that hard and are all multiple choice. His class is so fun, that I attend his class, even when I'm not enrolled. Please, please, please, please do yourself a favor and take this class.

Troland is funny, engaging and makes the subject interesting. A must take course for fulfilling Core reqs, but watch out for those exams!

A great teacher, though a relatively simple course. Still, this course is a great one to take for your core reqs. Professor Troland makes the subject matter immensely more interesting, and is an enjoyable teacher. The exams are easy so long as you pay attention, especially to the questions of the day.

He definitely knows what he is talking about and is very funny. He is a great professor and I would love to take another one of his classes!

Troland is an awesome guy who is super funny and tries to make lectures fun, but the lectures tend to get tiring. He does not take attendance but I found the tests were much easier since I went to class.

The class itself was so boring and I hated going to it; however, Troland was hilarious and was constantly telling jokes to keep people involved in the topic. Tests are extremely hard, so you need to study all semester long.

Professor Troland is hilarious and a great lecturer. That being said, 100% of this class is lecture. But, he shows you some cool pictures and doesn't make it all too boring. Tests are harder than you expect. Study!! He tells you the first day that you won't need the book so don't buy it. I would take Troland again, he's awesome.

I loved taking astronomy with this guy. He was absolutely hilarious! His class is pretty basic stuff, just pay attention and take notes in his class. Tests were usually more difficult than his lectures. Make sure you study and go to class!

My favorite professor at UK. I'm excited to take 192, and I'm not even into astronomy, he truly makes this class. You'll have to study for exams, but overall this class is amazing. I actually enjoyed going to this class.

Mr. Troland is one of the best teachers that I have ever had. I feel privileged just to sit before him in lecture as he shares his intelligence with 150 others. He keeps a light atmosphere in the class and I respect him very heavily.

He's by far the easiest professor to take for anything Astronomy. As long as you get 80% or more in TopHat questions, you'll get 100% in that category. Same for attendance; 80% or more and you get full credit. Besides that, 2 exams and a final, plus one observation, which requires 1 page description. He's very kind, intelligent, and likable.

Course is test-heavy, but there are ample opportunities for extra credit and Mr. Troland is an amazing lecturer. Even when covering dry material his passion for the subject shines through and he always seeks to make it relatable and interesting.

Great teacher

Tom Troland is one of the funniest people you will ever meet. He truly cares about students and does his best to make the lectures interesting even though sometimes the material is hard to understand. He only gives three exams and they are pretty tough; the first one caught the whole class off guard so be prepared!!

Troland is cool, I hope everyone gets to have him at some point. I only signed up for this class because I needed an easy elective but ended up really enjoying learning about the solar system. Troland made learning easy and enjoyable. He is hilarious and genuinely cares about his students. He is very likely one of the best professors at UK.

Tom is a really nice guy and also enjoys what he teaches. Lectures can be boring at times but he adds some humor at times to grab students attention. He had the option to attend class online or in person. I would take good notes because his tests are difficult if you do not take good notes. Lecture slides are available for future access if needed.

Troland keeps the lectures entertaining and communicates with students frequently. Attendance is graded every day so go. Tests can be challenging but it isn't going to affect your grade a bunch if you study and try. Highly recommend this course and professor troland!

He really is passionate about what he is teaching and I love that I could contact him outside of class if I was confused about something. I was not the biggest fan of his TA, however and because of her I failed an assignment initially, because she did not grade it right. Make sure you take good notes, bc you can use them on the exams!

I love this guy. He's so entertaining I actually cried on the last day of class because I was gonna miss him. He gives the option to watch the lecture online, which is nice. Exams are open note! He is old-fashioned though, not many assignments and not much extra credit. Also his attendance grade system in the syllabus is confusing. But he's awesome

Good professor who was a lenient grader and made lectures interesting. Class only had 2 exams, 1 project and attendance as grades and it is unclear what your grade is right til the end but easy class nonetheless

HE IS WONDERFUL. troland is hilarious and makes astronomy super interesting! he is also extremely understanding and has a very soothing voice. there are not many assignments so tests are very very important, this class was super interesting and i got to learn a lot about the heavens! would 100% take again.

Dr. Troland is amazing! He truly cares about student success. Very approachable & easy to talk to. Provides clear directions for the major project & all tests are a breeze. Do the extra credit; worth 5% extra points! Easy-to-follow lectures, basic attendance quizzes (open notes). AST191 is a fun core class. Easy A, no complaints about Dr. Troland.

Excellent professor! I'm a math major (switched from engineering, so I've already taken physics) but i had to complete a credit so i took astronomy for non-stem majors - super enjoyable class! minimal math/calculations; much more history of astronomy and broad ideas. He provides opportunities for extra credit; exams are open note! def recommend!

Dr. Troland is such a sweetheart. I loved that you had the option to attend class through Echo360 if you wanted to. For an astronomy class it really wasn't too bad. Exams are tough and I didn't do that great on them but still ended up with an A. If you attend class and do well on the final project you're fine.

Sexy. That is the best way to describe Professor Troland. And he really cares about the class. But, mostly sexy.

Troland was an amazing teacher. You have to watch the lecture to do the participation questions. Tests are harder than you think but as long as you do the extra credit and do good on the final project you will get an A. I recommend this elective.

He gives you the option to zoom the class from home if you would like instead of attend. As long as you answer the questions on the zoom it's almost impossible to get a bad grade.

I love Professor Troland. This is the easiest class at UK. You can attend online, there's no regular assignments just participation questions and 3 non-cumulative exams. He's also the funniest man on Earth.

Troland is one of my favorite professors I've ever had! His lectures are fun and engaging and his sense of humor is awesome. Strict attendance policy but he allows you to attend remotely through echo 360.
