Get him for 291!!!!!! hard class in itself but makes tests easy
No Comments
If you go to class and pay attention it is not hard.
Should have stuck with his English major...
Don't take this man for 191, withdrew from it. I hear his 291 was ok though
Borring, real hard quizes, do not take him for 191!
Really nice prof. U'll do well if u listen in class, go to test review sessions
CANNOT explain things well at all. Nice guy, but teaching skills are lacking.
no good teaching skills, not very clear with material, very hard tests/ quizzes
Very gentle and helpful, but BORING! Read chapt. before class
Very dry and boring....CANNOT teach. Wanted to take a knife and stab myself!
If I had a Nice Guy Award, it'd go to him. My Great Teacher Award wouldn't.
Real nice guy, real bad teacher
This guy is awesome, interested in helping his students, great teacher
Real nice guy, real bad teaching.
Good guy but is an upper level teacher that can teach lower level classes to well
Nice guy, bad bad bad teacher. Class is boring. His quizzes are impossible.
Do the assignments and go to class. It pays off nicely. His teaching is a good pace...I recommend him! He is very concerned about his students...very nice!
As has been said, really nice guy, terrible, horrible teacher. Never take this guy.
SOOO boring, nice guy, but have trouble sitting through class. tests are ok, but HAVe to study fine detail or else youll make stupid mistakes and do poorly. only take as a last resort.
I'm not sure how the other teachers for COB 191 are, but he is extremely boring. Check your pulse, because you may die of boredom in class. He is a very nice guy, but maybe you want to check out other teachers first.
Nice guy, Work is pretty easy...tests are a little tough ...not difficult to get an 'A'...booooring as hell though
It's easy and he doesn't grade hard at all. It's boring as hell though.
Really nice guy, most boring class ever. If you take this guy make sure you have a friend in the class, you can't understand this guy by yourself, not a very good teacher. Fairly easy if you study the book.
I took STATs in HS and we did the exact material. However, he had the ability to confuse the crap out of me. He is an ok teacher, think he has material memorized but doesnt know how to do it himself.
He's a nice guy, but this is the most boring class I've ever taken. He doesn't explain anything and the book is not much help. Definitely have a friend in the class or you will fall asleep. The tests are confusing. Wouldn't recommend this teacher:(
DO NOT TAKE THIS GUY!! He is boring as hell, and he can't answer questions. He does a million homework problems in class and then has no problems on the tests. This is the worst class I have taken in college so far, and I wouldn't wish this man on anyone!
Very nice prof. Rough tests, final is standardized so anything on that was nothing like his tests. go to class,do the homework(that's easy) but try your hardest to not take this class w/ him,he was corrected by students when he did problems on the board!
Fairly easy - if you study the book! you said it! (what are books supposed to be for anyway?)
Really nice guy, kinda shaky. Hard tests. But do well on Excel assignments and quizzes. MAKE GOOD NOTE CARDS, they help
He is a nice guy and does a good job if you need help in the class.
He is a nice guy but cannot teach well. I didn't learn anything about statistics in his class but was able to walk away with a B, thanks to friends and being lucky when it came to tests.
the dude's nice and all but he doesn't know how to teach and his tests have nothing to do with the problems
he is a nice guy but he is too scatterbrained to teach you the material. If you need a linear format to learn then he is the wrong teacher. If you like chaos then I recommend him.
class is very hard. not clear at all. very confusing. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS !!!! OR YOU WILL DIE
he is by far my favorite teacher at jmu so far. he is the nicest man...and ALWAYS willing to help!! do the excel problems he goes over in class on your own, and you will understand EVERYTHING...
I had to take ina markham for both 191 and 291, had to drop 291 b/c of how difficult she made it. This guy is Jesus compared to her, a real humanitarian, earned a B+ with him as the teach.
its a tough class no doubt but he is a laid back teacher. teaches excel stuff real well but book questions are up to you. i think one of the best 291 teachers you can get.
Awesome teacher. Real laid back. Covers the material well.
Really nice guy, very laid back. But his test are HARD.
Great professor, especially for 291.
He's probably one of my favorate teachers. He's real laid back and is always willing to help. If you go to the study sessions you should do good in this class. I think he is the best 291 teachers.
This guy is one of the greatest prof. that I've ever met.Friendly, approachable, and caring are the 3 words that come to my mind.He teaches the material well, but 291 is still a hard class;so make sure to keep up with the book work!P.S-Don't take Christian!
He's a little confusing in class sometimes, but if you go to his office hours, he's really clear and he gives a lot of different examples and works all the angles for you! He will go over a question a bunch if you don't understand the concept!
nice guy, sometimes can confuse himself
such an awesome prof!! Take Him!! he makes sure everyone knows the material, tests arn't that bad, offers extra review sessions...so sweet & helpful!posts all powerpoints. I don't see how any1 could fail.
A really nice guy, and a really good professor. His tests are kind of hard, but not painful. He's always willing to help, answer any and all questions. I would definitely recommend him for this class.
Compared to other 291 teachers this guy by far and away the best. He is less demading but still teaches the information well.
Great professor. I had him for both 191 and 291, and I definitely recommend him. He's always willing to help, and is just a really nice guy. Take him!
He is very laid back and is always willing to help you out when he can. His tests and assignments aren't too bad as long as you go to class and keep up with the work. Take Wood for 291 if at all possible.
Really sweet professor. Class material is difficult and boring but he is willing to help. Assigments are challenging, as are tests, but he offers extra credit. Wood is a good person!
Knows what he is talking about. Takes a lot of time to teach sections, makes sure everyone understands the topics. As long as you pay attention and take notes, you will be prepared for tests/quizes. Easy A/B
if u must take the evil 291 class then take it with Wood. He is such a sweet professor and willing to help. He goes slow so that you understand the material. He is a fair grader, offering curves where necessary. CLASS is difficult, but he is the BEST of the 291 teachers.
Let's get one thing clear: 291 isn't easy no matter who you have. However, Wood makes it understandable and thats key. If you go to class then there should not be a single thing you don't expect on tests. Also offers a lot of help during office hours. If you can get him, definately get him.
such a sweet guy. can definitely be unclear at times but will help you in class and during office hours. offers in class extra credit which makes an A very attainable.
Prof wood is a sweet guy. Class seems easy but tests are HARD!! Out of the book and lots more theory than problems which is all you do in class. SOmewhat unclear and unhelpful--wouldnt do a review session. Not much work required. A few pain in the ass hwork assignments/group project. Boring class
Professor Wood is such a nice guy. He will go over a problem as many times as you need until you understand. Tests are difficult. The information taught in class is much different than the information required for the tests. 1 group project and 4 assignments are a grade booster.
Great professor....such a nice guy. The material isn't the most exciting of all classes, but it's do-able. Please take my advice and go with this professor. (Presenting Problems = LOTS of Extra credit)
good professor. very nice guy, very approachable. take him.
Sweetest professor ever! Tests are not that bad and he is approachable and so willing to help his students understand the material. I definitely suggest getting Professor Wood for 291 - he makes it doable.
Really helpful and always willing to help. Class is boring and mandatory. Got a B and didnt do any homework or didnt take any class notes.
I love Tom Wood! Very basic and easy material. Tests are exactly what you would expect. Gives unlimited extra credit if you present problems in class. He is a very sweet man and really cares about his students. He will never give you anything you cant handle. Awesome professor, take him if you can!
He's the man, always starts off class with questions from students and answers them. There's plenty of EC opportunities (2 test points for one problem solved on the board). Read the chapters in the textbook, do the EC, and take advantage of notecards for tests. Good class
wood's a really nice person. but as a teacher, he's not so great. boring class. final is hard. no way to study for the tests
Tests aren't entirely based off of class work, but he is a really good guy and definitely tries to make the class succeed.
Tom Wood is one of the best teachers I've had here. He's really nice and there's lots of extra credit opportunities. Tests aren't hard either.
Wood is the man, i don't know how anyone can have a problem with this guy. He's so chill and really tries to help students if they want help.
Don't take him. Not only is he a bad teacher, but he is also mad boring. It is extremely painful to go to class and when you go you learn nothing. Not lenient at all with grades either.
Class in extremely boring...but if enough people don't go to class you get extra credit on tests...Easy A
A little monotone, but Wood is the man. Very helpful if you make an effort in his class.
Good teacher, explains problems really well. Takes extra time to go over tougher material. Is always accessible and willing to help. Gives a lot of extra credit and curves tests when class does bad. Homework is not required. One of the best stats teacher in the COB. I highly recommend him over anyone else. Real nice guy - you cant go wrong.
VERY nice professor, calm and helpful. He gives 5 points per test for showing up to class every day, and he also curves and gives extra credit. *Do homework = lots of extra credit on the board* b/c his tests are a little challenging. Class gets a bit boring at times, but what math course doesn't?
he seriously is the sweetest man ever. he greets each individual who walks into class and occasionally on surprise will make a batch of brownies for everyone. it is true, he is boring but is very sweet and loves to help make sure everyone understands everything. tests are hard but make sure do a problem on the board for extra credit
Obviously stats is boring, but Wood is overall a nice guy. His tests are very random and you never really know what stuff the test is going to be on. He says folks a lot and randomly will make a corny joke, but for some reason it is hilarious. I'd say an easy B if you try.
Wood is the man!!! The material is not that difficult and from what i have picked up, he is by far the best 191 teacher. I felt he prepared well for all of his tests however the final was a department exam so that was somewhat difficult. Overall, a great professor-gives extra credit for attendance and board work. I never did any homework
Prof. Wood is a very nice man, but a horrible teacher. Almost half of his tests are based on things not covered in class. He doesn't give you any ideas on what to study and his review sessions are worthless. If you take him, don't expect a final grade above a "C".
This guy is great. Laidback, calm, boring, but he was the least stressful of all of the COB300 professors. He was the one who felt as though students had other work to do aside from his class. Bonus points are great too.
Prof. Wood is both my adviser and stat teacher, and I'm glad he is. He's the nicest professor I've had at JMU, and is always willing to help and has a lot of patience. He is kind of boring though...but then again, that's statistics for ya. I got an A and didn't work too hard. I would def recommend though, as long as you don't have it at 8 AM
I took this guy for operations and he is not a good teacher. He is extremely boring and very old fashioned. Hes a really nice guy and it seems that he wants his students to succeed. His tests are hard and on stuff he doesnt teach.
Easy class. Lectures are very boring. Puts me to sleep everytime. Very nice person and always willing to help with anything. Study for his tests. Need to read chapters because he takes detailed stuff from the chapters and puts them on the tests. Easy B.
Prof is a very nice man. He seems to care about his students. Has somewhat of a monotone voice that can put you asleep. It would help if he wore a mic, that way the back of the class could actually hear him. I like the professor as a person, but i have trouble sitting through class. Exams definitely aren't hard as long as you read the book
Wood really cares about the students and is always willing to help. If you read the book you can easily get a B or A. He is really quiet but you learn to adapt. Gives extra credit points for presenting problems in class.
A really nice man, but really quiet. If you can manage to stay awake during class, it isn't too hard to do well. Make sure to look at his powerpoints before tests because almost all of the information is on there. The textbook is as dry as the class and is very difficult to get through.
Power points can get boring but he is very nice. DO ALL the example problems at the end of the chapters and the homework problems to prepare for tests. Got an A- but studied a lot for it. Take this class seriously, he can be very specific on test questions.
Wood's a nice guy, but his lectures are unbelievably boring. Classes comprise of his reading PowerPoint slides verbatim.
Wood is a good guy study the powerpoints and put a little effort into it and a B-A is easily possible.
extremely nice guy. lectures, are a bit, eh, dry...but overall great class. very knowledgeable and extremely helpful. tests are not difficult at all, and you get two percentage points on your next test for every homework problem you work out in front of the class. easy B, if you study minimum amounts.
Not an extremely hard class if you read the Powerpoints and definitely the textbook! Tests are difficult but he curves them so it's not hard to get a B or an A if you study enough. He's such a nice man too so definitely go to office hours if you're having trouble, he's always there to help.
Prof. Wood is a good professor! He's really nice and helpful. Tests are not too bad and he doesn't check homework but it's good for the extra practice. Do the extra credit! If you go up to the projector and do a problem using excel he gives you 2 points on your next test and they can add up! Also, if you're hard of hearing sit in the front row!
Easiest 191 teacher by far. I have hardly studied for anything and have an A-. Tests are a breeze and give a lot of easy extra credit!
Wood is the best! His tests are much easier than I thought and gives E/Credit all the time which is an awesome grade booster!!
very nice guy, very approachable, talks veryyyy low so sometimes hard to hear and easy to fall asleep if your not in the front. tests are OK. would take the teacher again..lot of hw is given but does not check it and just goes over it the next class
Extremely helpful teacher, especially in office hours. Lectures aren't incredibly entertaining but he definitely goes over the information well. Tests tend to be fairly difficult but he does offer quizzes and assignments to help balance the grade. I'd take him if you could.
Very nice guy, especially if you participate in class. I took stats in high school so it was a breeze but from what I understand, if you´re having trouble he is very helpful in his office hours, which are plentiful. Class is pretty boring. Extra credit if you go to the board and work a problem. Take him!
So adorable! He really cares. Sit in the front of the room because he talks very quietly. Study previous quizzes, usually repeated questions are on the tests. The tests are NOT from the textbook they are all from notes so make sure you write everything down. He is very understanding and helpful. There is an attendance poilcy. Take him!
Professor Wood is such a sweet man and he really cares about his students and wants them to do well. Work hard, and do the extra credit. Bring in articles and do problems in front of the class, the points really add up. Go to office hours if you need help. Quizzes are more conceptual, tests are more math-oriented. Overall, not that hard, study!
Quizzes and Tests are a bit complicated. Read the book to do them well. DO HIS E.C. If your a math person, you can take this and easily get a B. If your not, you can try hard and get an A.
I hate to say anything bad about him because he is such a nice guy and definitely cares about his students but I found this class to be really difficult and I took honors stats in high school and did well. His tests are really hard and questions are unclear. What we do in class isn't relevant to what's on the tests.
Very sweet guy. really cares about his students. does review sessions before the tests. offers extra credit if you do a problem in front of the class. quizzes and tests are somewhat difficult but as long as you study your notes and textbook you'll be fine. recommend him!
Professor Wood is such a sweet guy, but he's just a so-so teacher. His quizes and tests are difficult and I never felt like they reflected what we learned in class very well. I don't think I'd recommend him exactly, not because he's bad, but just that there are probably better Stats teachers..
Professor Wood is fantastic in the field of operations. He has a lot of real-life example to offer during lectures. The downside is that he is soft-spoken and his tests are fairly difficult. Keep up with the optional homework in order to succeed.
Tom Wood is the best 191 teacher! He makes sure you understand the material, gives extra credit, and is extremely helpful in office hours. He really wants you to get what he is teaching and will go over things if you need him to. Quizzes are kind of difficult but the tests are straight forward. TAKE HIM!!!
Tom Wood is an awesome professor for 191. Coming into the class looking at some of the other rating it was nervous, but he's truly a nice guy who will help you out. Quizzes can be tough, but the tests are straight forward. Awesome guy hw is optional and we still learned a lot. He also gives a lot of extra credit for participating and doing problems
Class is not very fun but he's a really nice guy who wants his students to do well. I thought the tests and quizes were very straightforward and his study guides and example excel problems were really helpful.
Very clear, if you are able to keep your attention. He talks very slow and quietly, and often blank screens the projector for minutes at a time to pre-work out problems. Tests are clear, and always available in his office. It all depends on how good of an attention span you have!
Professor Wood was great! He really makes sure that his students understand the material! Definitely one of the best business stats professor in Showker. If he's still available during registeration take him!
Make sure you drink your coffee or red bull before class. He reads straight off the PP slides and talks softly. Operations is already boring enough. Make sure you take HW and Quizzes very seriously, there aren't that many of them and they are worth 20% of your grade. Follow the study guides for tests and you'll be alright. Read the textbook
Awesome guy! This is a boring subject so no matter who you take you will probably not be into it. But he definitely does he best to make sure you know the material and genuinely cares about his students. Take him!
Wood's class is horribly boring and material seems to repeat itself. Tests are essentially pointless to study for and are surprisingly difficult considering class material is seemingly straightforward. His thoughts seem to be scattered and he's hard to follow. Seems like a nice guy but not in his teaching prime.
Tom Wood is such a friendly guy, but he was not a good fit for the operations portion of COB300. 300 is a rigorous program and he moves SO SLOWLY that we were always behind the other sections. I think he is better fit for 191. He reads right off the slides and is so quiet and boring I can hardly hear/stay alive. Super cute old mister though!!
He means well, but his thoughts are scattered, shows up unprepared for classes, and has many health issues. The tests are difficult, because you don't learn anything in class. The poor man just needs to retire. We were behind all other sections due to his many health issues. You never know what your grade is in the class, because nothing is posted.
He's nice and caring, with good intentions. Unfortunately his health issues prevent him from being an effective teacher. He's quiet and we moved through the material very slowly. It was very hard to stay awake or keep any interest at all during class. His exams are somewhat difficult but not terrible. He's not great but it's not his fault.
He's such a nice guy. He's better suited for 191, rather than 300. Stats can be hard, but he's always willing to help out. He also adds points to your test for participating. Excel and homework assignments are really good grade boosters. Tests and quizzes aren't too hard either. His has a quiet voice so be sure to sit up front!
Professor Wood is a very sweet man and genuinely cares about his students. However, tests ended up being way harder than the super easy class meetings and homework load and that killed my grade. HW is not mandatory but DO THEM or you'll be totally lost like me. He is very helpful if you ask him questions and go to office hours
Professor Wood is one of the nicest people I've ever met. His class was sometimes interesting. If you study the study guides well and attend class, it's very easy to get a decent grade. Attendance is mandatory!
He is nice, but he does not present class material in a way that is very clear. If you ask for help, then he is more than willing. Tests are much much harder than anything you will do in the class and studying for countless hours does little you prepare you for them. I basically had to teach myself using the textbook.
Wood is a great guy, and teaches the material pretty well in class, but sadly when it comes to the tests they are nearly impossible. I would go to review sessions, and study for hours and the highest grade I got on a test was an 80. He is also a tough homework assignment grader, which affected my grade considerably. Not the worst but not the best.
Professor Wood is a really nice guy but a little difficult to learn from at times. He breezes through his power points and spends most of class time going over book problems (which can be pretty dull). The book is great thought! and office hours are helpful
Professor Wood is a really nice guy but a little difficult to learn from at times. Not a great professor when it comes to learning from him. He breezes through his power points and spends most of class time going over book problems (which can be pretty dull). The book is great thought and his office hours are helpful. Overall he's okay.
Tom Wood is a nice guy, he wants you to succeed, and he helps when he can. That being said, his lecture based class is very boring and monotonous. He is not a great speaker and your ability to concentrate will suffer the consequences. Incredibly dry course material is made worse by his presentation. Passable, but almost impossible to stay awake for
Professor Wood is so nice and really wants students to succeed. That being said, his lectures can be learned straight from the textbook so it's annoying that attendance is mandatory. Very soft spoken, but if you ask for clarification, he will definitely give it. Would reccomend.
He is nice but a bad teacher. His lectures are dull, and he loses the class' attention quickly. He breezes through the ppt but does a bad job of explaining what was on it. His thoughts are scattered making it difficult to follow. Computers are not allowed but most of the work requires excel, so we just watch as he does the problem for us.
DON"T TAKE HIM! His lectures are unorganized making it hard to learn. His voice is soft and monotone, which will put you to sleep. When working out problems he makes a lot of mistakes, which makes it hard to learn. The class use excel a lot but students are not allowed to have laptops in class which makes no sense. HE SIMPLY CAN'T TEACH!
He's not a good speaker (very quiet and stutters) and he makes Operations even more boring than it already is, so if you get him for 300 good luck staying awake in class. Paying attention in class and going to office hours helps, but if I had the choice I definitely wouldn't take him again
He's very very boring and speaks very quietly. I sat towards the back and could never hear him. He also doesn't really teach, but rather gives examples and hopes you learn as he goes. He runs through the examples very quickly so it's hard to keep up. Also, he would show us examples that require a computer but wouldn't allow computer use in class.
Really nice guy, great in office hours, HW not required but helpful for tests. I would say biggest drawbacks are not being able to bring in laptops to practice Excel problems and SUPER boring lectures.
he's a really nice guy, but he can't teach. His lectures are so boring and he adds so many unnecessary fillers to get to the main point. You'll do better by just zoning him out and reading the textbook. But he requires you to attend these waste of time lectures by dropping your grade if you don't attend. He's an okay option, but Id keep searching
He's a very nice man, not the best teacher in the world. It may sound like everything you hear to be successful in college, but going to office hours, participating in class, asking questions, and studying a lot for this class is a must if you want to get a good grade. He's willing to help as much he can but you have to work for it.
This Professor is rude to his students, harshly grades every single assignment to the most detailed dot, and speaks at the volume of a mouse. Be prepared to teach yourself the entirety of the class. This isnt just one student complaining; my entire class besides a select few (wont even mention the favortism) has a horrible grade.
I dont approve. Super soft spoken it was really hard to understand him. I did not like him at. Save your time. He grades way to hard it is so awful. Makes no sense when you are talking to him. He clearly have favorites in the class too. Never knew my name all year and we had a small class.
He is so boring. I get so bored in his class. He is very soft spoken and monotone it is hard to pay attention. He is a sweet old man but he just very borning to listen to it is hard to engage.
Professor Wood is a nice and considerate guy but an awful teacher. Lectures are extremely boring while all he does is go through examples and expects you to know it. If attendance wasnt mandatory then I wouldnt show up because I taught my self all of the material through the textbook.
Talks very quiet so sit in the front! Get ready to read the textbook, but the lectures are just like the reading. Prof Wood is super considerate and is always accessible during office hours. Graded on many things so plenty of chances to boost grades. Kind man and great professor, definitely a solid choice for a hard class.
Prof Wood was truly awful. His lectures were extremely boring and it was clear that even he sometimes did not know what he was doing. VERY strict about honor code which is hard considering he barely teaches and expects us to do assignments on our own. The only reason I did okay in this class was because I took AP stats in high school.
Everybody did awful on the tests and he never curved, average on final was an F.
He is very caring, but he speaks softly. He didn't always do the best at explaining things in lecture, but he is very helpful in office hours. He does graded excel assignments so go into office hours and have him check your work. Don't cheat. Many students in my class failed because they shared homework answers. Overall nice guy.
