The guy is hilarious. but does not prepare you for his hardcore exams.
Very helpful. Ask questions, he knows his stuff.
Good guy, awesome sense of humor, sometimes explains things kind of backwards so it's confusing on the test, but if he screws up he's quick to remedy the problem.
Funny but doesn't teach all that well-better to learn on your own for the tests and stagecheck's-take it from someone else if you want to learn something!
Good teacher, but you cant sleep in this class. Read everything you can on the topic because he moves fast. Smart and easy to talk to.
Yeah he is a nice and funny professor until you ask him for any flexablity.
i took his class in the summer of 02', and I agree that he is a funny guy. Also know class material fairly. But seems like he doesn't go extra miles like other good professors would do. When it comes down to it, I would not go and seek a help from this guy cause i just can't expect much from him.
Is a funny guy but is not able to explain things well and his tests are very confusing and doesnt provide any help. Also be littles students in class, yet doesnt do anything to help.
Nice and funny guy, but he doesn't spend much time teaching the material. Sometimes class would be let out after 15 minutes and his tests are written poorly. If you want a great experience take 323 from Trapnell.
is a great teacher. i highly recommed tom. explains things very well. makes the class easy and fun.
Knows stuff, tests don't always follow teachings.
Good guy and does make class interesting with his drug and beer jokes. When it comes to test, be prepared, one of the hardest teachers in Aviation! If you think you’re up for a challenge, go for it!
Zeidlik rocks.
Funny guy that keeps the class interesting while he is interested (which last for 20 minutes). Tests are fairly easy. Any help with anything outside of class you're better off going elsewhere. Zeidlik is very arrogant!
what an winner! funny for about the first 3 classes, then his whopping five jokes get old. real old. cannot teach, treats students like numbers, tests confusing, inconsistent. makes classes harder than they should be. still trying to figure out if he holds grudges or hates everyone.
Absolutely. Last year he let us use his workshop at home to build our class project. No other teach ever did that.
Keeps MATH interesting.
He definitely knows his stuff, but I would agree with the person that said he can be arrogant. He does explain things very well but sometimes focuses too much on things that won't be on the test. A good teacher, but not much help outside of the classroom.
Brilliant guy who doesnt always have a desire to teach. I believe him when he says he has never taken a teaching class.
I've learned a great deal of information from this class. Tom Zeidlik has great potential and is very helpful outside and inside of class. I would highly recommend this course to future students.
pay attention and get your A, template points are so easy with only 18 flight lessons, not to bad of a class at all.
Awful teacher. Tests are more trivial in nature and don't get the main points across. The class project is time-consuming and doesn't teach you anything.
Yes Zeidlik is a funny guy with tons of one-liners. However, as a professor he pretty much is the worst you can get. He doesn't know a whole lot about the topic. You can never get a hold of the guy when you need help and if you can he is too busy to help or just doesn't want too. Also, he does not really care about the students.
Hilarious guy, easy to pay attention to, very knowledgeable- definitely recommended.
He is a great teacher. I wish he taught every class I am taking because he makes everything so easy to understand. His 2 hour class went by so quickly. It felt like it was a half an hour long.
he was awesome!!!
Probably one of the worst aerospace teachers. He clearly does not care about any of the students in his class. I worked incredibly hard on a project, and still only managed to pull away with a C. Apparently effort on the project doesn't count, he only wants to see what he likes. He has favorites, make sure you're on that list.
Worst teacher ever. I have had avit 323 before so i know the stuff, and this guy, this guy doesn't know anything. I can't believe he is teaching. Unfair grading (your project grade is based on other groups performance.) He doesn't use full time allowed and doesn't teach the full curriculum. Doesn't care bout students either.
The project is hard, no doubt about it. Start early and don't whine about it. The rest of the class was easy enough. Take good notes. He yells at you if you're online or texting.
Professor Zeidlik is very difficult to work. If you have a problem, it is very hard to track him down, and when you do, he is very hard to communicate with. He displays little interest in his students and his test are inconsistent with his lectures. The final exam is very difficult considering you need to score a 76 or better to pass the class.
Killer tests. Unbelievably hard. He expects you to remember stuff from the physics class.
Zeidlik is one of the most expr profs at UND with industry experience. His tests are legendary but he prepares you well. He is fair. He is brilliant and pushes his students to understand how/what they are doing and how it applies to flying more than just how to get an A. Project is tough, but explains it on the first day, it's on you to do well.
One of the worst teachers I have ever had. Doesn't seem to care about his students, and could care less if you fail his class. Not very personable one on one, although has a few good jokes in class. Stay away from his classes!!!!
Horrible professor. The FAA should get involved. He grades his FAA certified classes subjectivly (which is illegal.) All FAA courses are suppose to be objectively graded. He doesnt care about his students and he teaches teh material all wrong. If you want to learn the material correctly dont take his classes.
Very funny guy and fun to listen to. This guy really knows his stuff. He has alot of expierence and it shows. This class is for a good pilot to become an expert pilot. His tests are hard but so is life. He is preparing you for the real world
Friendly and helpful. Look for his class.
Very challenging and definitely prepares you for the real world. However, he is extremely terrible at communication and very unprofessional in all aspects when working one-on-one. Other faculty have expressed much worse views then my own. Avoid at all costs.
Here's the skinny on Tom. He's hard get over it. But he is fair, people who complain about his grading are people who are ill prepared to do the work, and don't make solid efforts to get clarity (use resources outside him) It's on you to do well. He gets a bad rap but doesn't deserve it. He's a real genuine guy if you get try to know him.
Zeidlik deserves his bad rap, not for what he does in the class room, but his flight lesson policy. If you're not done by the end of finals week, you fail the class, no amount of bad weather or maintenance can change this. The classwork isn't difficult, and he can be funny, but he's an absolute ass when it comes to deadlines.
I don't understand how this guy has been a teacher at this "world class" institution as long as he has.Tests are unecessarily vague and despite is pride in bragging about his hospitality in regard to explaining trouble students may have.He is never available, and when he is, you you'd wish he wasn't. Doesn't take his job seriously.Avoid this man!
Terrible!! The class itself isn't too bad, he does teach it well but that is about it. Unwilling to help students. The second class is done he's shut down the computer and already walked out of class before you can get your backpack and go ask him a question. His deadlines are complete bs too. AVOID!!
Tom isn't that bad. Having sat through two of his classes, most of the grading policy people complain about is a UND/FAA mandate (323 flight deadline). Project for 323 is tough, but he explains it clearly and it's doable if you don't wait. He's brilliant, tough to get a hold of, but a great teacher and fair, if you can DO THE WORK out of class.
the guy is a complete ****, do not take a class with him if you have a choice. he belittles his students, singles people out, very full of himself.
Rude and unprofessional. You will be sorry.
AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE..
More interested in getting to his job at the hospital than helping swtudents out. Do not take his class especially if you have your pilot's license already. No resprct for students. A know it all.
Here is the deal. I have had multiple classes with this professor and I feel the truth is skewed in a lot of these reviews. He is very interesting, knows his stuff, and lays out very specific rules. However, this would not be a good professor for a beginning student (not very helpful) or one who is looking to slack off. Overall-hard but interesting
Avit 100 is an easy class but he as an instructor is just awful. I'm pretty sure I've learned more about EMS than flying. We had one good speaker just because one of the students got his dad to come in. He loves to make fun of students. Stay away if at all possible. Especially for Avit 102
Better suited for teaching upper level courses cause he does not teach he "reviews" as he puts it. No help at all with struggling students cause he can never be reached. He says that each test is the hardest then lies about whats on it.
Come on, people, he's really not that bad. He teaches the content well and fairly throughly, with the expectation that you'll study on your own. AVIT102 is the foundation for your future as a pilot. If you aren't willing to put forth any effort you shouldn't be in the industry. Zeidlik is actually pretty funny and informative. Not a bad prof.
Come on ! I just took his Avit 102 last fall, this guy is a good teacher, he offer the review before each test,it was helpful. I got my first A at UND from his class. This guy is a good teacher.
I had him for Aviation 102 my first semester at UND. He will challenge you, but as long as you study and put the work into it, you will easily get a good grade. 102 is not an easy class no matter who teaches it. Zeidlik made it do-able with study guides and most of all he made it fun. Great teacher, I highly recommend him.
He is very fast and makes it harder than it needs to be. If your a slower learner go take this class with someone else.
I've heard the horror stories about Mr. Zeidlik, and I was honestly afraid when I added his class to my schedule. He's changed. Seriously. I took his 323 class, and he made it fun and interesting. He goes out of his way to help you. All you have to do is study the material and finish your flying --PRO TIP: Fly three times a week. You'll thank me.--
Mr. Zeidlik was a good teacher who cared about his students. Do not miss his class and fly as much as you can. If you need help he will help you but after class. If you put forth your full effort you will get a good grade. Not a good teacher to slack off with.
Had a good time but very hard to keep up with his teaching speed
I had heard stories of how hard Zeidlik was but I found the class to be pretty easy and so did a lot of fellow students in the class. He is one of the smartest guys at UND and he's probably the funniest teacher I've had in the Aerospace program. Great teacher great/guy.
Awesome teacher. He is probably one of the best teacher that I've ever had all through grade school, high school, and now College. He will do what he can to help you but he will not put up with Bull Crap. If you don't put in the effort then expect to fall behind. 102 is a weed out course. If you can't pass I don't want you to fly. Get over it!
This guy is hard to understand, disorganized and often contradicts what the textbook says. Had to drop out and ace the class with Mr. Foltz instead. Kind of a weird jerk who needs to humble himself, tone down his ego a bit and stop awkwardly crying in class. Disrespectful to some students and even criticized a student on how they walked into class.
Zeilik helps his students. He treats us like adults, thats why the last guy probably dropped - still a little baby. If you want a kiddie class take someone else.
Tests are very hard! I recommend taking time to go over test stuff with him before class on test days.
Zeidlik is a very good professor with a great sense of humor. He really goes in depth with material. This set me up great and made 414 much easier. As long as you put forth a little effort the class is an easy A.
Favorite teacher ever! Extremely funny and knowledgeable. Very clear on what you need to study for the tests.
This professor is a great teacher. The reviews are not correct for him. If you put in the effort it will pay off. He doesn't tolerate laziness or inability to pay attention. Listen to him, STUDY, STUDY, STUDY and you will make an A! If your looking to barely slide by take another class, if you want to better yourself take 102 with Zeidlik!
Easy class, came in with PPL already and this class was a joke. Review for tests with him and do study guides if there are any. However, Zeidlik has a huge ego and if he happens to decide you're someone he wants to pick on, the class will suck. He has some good stories but overall he's rude and has little respect for his students.
Yes his class is hard, but it's not impossible to get an A in Zeidlik's class. You need to listen to his lectures and use the materials he gives you to succeed. He's a great teacher but the greatest teacher can't help students that don't take the time to actually study. So STUDY, and again listen to his lectures, he tells you whats on the tests!
Zeidlik is an awesome professor. His classes can be tough, but if you actively participate the content is easy. His lectures tend to be very short and the test are easy as long as you understand the equations he provides. I definitely would take any class from him!
Great Professor if you pay attention in class. He literally gives away the answers if you listen to his verbal Hints. Seriously I've had 2 classes with him and so long as you listen to his verbal hints in class and only take notes on those you will cut down your study materials and have every answerquestion on the test.
He's the kind of teacher who picks on people, but if you have tough skin you'll realize he doesn't mean it in a pompous way. He's a great teacher, very knowledgable and good at keeping lectures interesting. The teacher review from "UND sucks" is a very poor misrepresentation of his character. Would take his class again.
This class has a bad reputation, but it really isn't that bad. Zeidlik is really funny, and tries to make aerodynamics interesting. The math you have to do is really simple, and you get an equations sheet on every test. He also basically tells you what will be on the tests, so make sure to go and take notes.
Zeidlik has been one of my favorite professors so far. He introduces a side to aviation that not many instructors can explain as well as he does. The math is very simple so long as you can plug and chug numbers into the equations from the equation sheet he gives you. You cannot fully explain aerodynamics without a little math.
The class is clearly laid out in the syllabus and the gradebook was kept up to date. There is a 30 minute presentation you will have to dress up in a suit for, and there are also 2 exams and a final exam along with outlines that are due. This is not a class you can skip, and Tom does not accept late work. The class and teacher are tough I won't lie
For future students: This is the class that you do your senior presentation for. On the first day of class, he passes around a sheet of paper to all the students with the topics for you to sign up for. I recommend sitting in the front of the class for day 1 so you can get your first topic choice before everyone else gets it
One of my most enjoyable professors so far. He is one of the funniest teachers I have ever had and as long as you study a little for the tests it will be easy.
Literally got 100% on 3 of 4 block exams and 100% on the 14 question final exam. This class is not meant to be hard. He has a good sense of humor and wants everyone to get 100%. Achieving that is very doable. Easiest A at UND besides AVIT 100.
Zeidlik is a hard professor. Study hard and work hard or you won't pass. Expects graduate level work from undergraduate students.
Zeidlik is not a teacher I'd want to have again. His ego is through the roof, he has an unwillingness to help students in specific situations, and he has many demands on students that he doesn't hold to himself. Get ready for passive-agressive comments when you talk 1 on 1. The slides helped a lot in learning the material though... so study those.
I had Zeidlik for 323 and 324 over the summer. That's about 4 hours of classes with him a day. I also had him for 309. And I'll tell you now, that I really like him! He practically tells you exactly what's on each test if you pay attention. He's really funny and down to earth. Plus, he works in an ER room, which equals good stories.
Rude to students, enjoys insulting students in front of their peers.
Zeidlik has tons of experience and stories from working in the industry. He provides you with all the power point slides, making it easy to take good notes. The tests are fairly easy and similar to the study guides that he gives you. Pay attention and stay ahead of the flight template as best you can and you will do just fine.
I feel like they're still trying to figure out how to teach this class after Doc Jensen left. Still having trouble writing good tests and stuff. But, knowing zeidlik, he has began to make the tests easy and straight forward. Should be better for people taking it in Spring.
hmm Zeidlik where do I start.. He knows his stuff. However he can be pretty rude about it. However, for 323 he's the best person to take it from. He is way too qualified to teach it. He also has a crazy amount of hobbies which I think is pretty funny. Talk to him, he truly is the most interesting man in the world...
This man has a gift for making any concept super simple. Has lots of experience to back up his knowledge, and he always seems to be really excited about teaching his quick and hilarious lectures. Got out of class 20 minutes early at least 70% of days. Has a great sense of humor, though he will offend those who don't know how to take a joke. RTFQ
Tom is an amazing teacher and as long as you spend time to actually study you'll do great. If you choose to not study or actually try then things wont go your way.
Professor Zeidlik has a lot of experience. His lectures are amazing but you have to pay attention in class to do well. He gives a lot of hints for the exams. He was very helpful even outside class. One of my favorite professors!
Mr. Zeidlik is an amazing and funny professor. However, you must put in the time and effort to get the grade you wish to desire on exams. It is just simply not a review and take a test kind of class, you must learn the material well. Which becoming a pilot, is a good trait to have. He is hilarious during lectures and gives details on exam Qs.
Really knows his stuff. Funny, nice, strict but fair. For 323 what he says is more important than whats on the slide, and he gave us paper copies of every powerpoint he had for the semester. Take good notes and know how to study and youll be fine.
309 was tough but worth it, a real dive into the nitty-gritty. Honestly an amazing experience with an amazing teacher. The Class is graded solely off of 3 exams that are tough so don't sleep on it or you wont pass. He likes to crack jokes and have fun but takes his class seriously. Lastly I have heard that in other classes he's a lot rougher tho
I am not a fan of Tom Zeidlik. He certainly has a big ego and is the stereotypical old pilot who thinks he is bigger and better than you because of his years of experience. The content covered in this course was interesting, however, not "life-changing" like he claimed it would be. Advice: Read the book (wink wink nudge nudge)
Tom definitely knows what he is talking about but lectures can be brutal. One day I was taking notes and he asked "If I could take time out of my precious day to listen to what he was saying". He thought I was watching a movie. Felt very disrespected. Study hard for tests and you should do fine.
Tom is very knowledgeable but often comes off with a very large ego. Block exams and attendance are the only things which will be entered into the gradebook. He provides study guides but dont expect to see much of the study guide on the exams. Study every lecture inside and out for the final, it is insanely difficult. I dont recommend him at all.
If you are the kind of person where memorizing concepts is easy for you, this class will be easy. He does reccomend a textbook, I got it but only used it for the first two blocks. I will say it was helpful for understanding stuff. Only "tricky" test is the final which is an application of the class info not just a memory test like the other tests
Overall, he was a very bad professor with poorly written exams. The only grades that go into the grade book are two exams and the final. The exams are very memory heavy, along with having to apply that knowledge to the twisted questions that he asks.
Show up and take notes, do a study guide for the exam, and you'll get A or B. I was worried about bad reviews but ended up having no issues and enjoyed the class.
I loved this class. You do have to commit some time into it (read the textbook and review the questions/answers at the end of each section). Otherwise the professor was great and very knowledgeable on the field. He has very open office hours and is overall very helpful.
I would recommend taking AVIT 323 with Zeidlik. He does a good job of teaching the information in class and if you pay attention and study off the study guide, you will do well on the exams. I really enjoyed his class and learned a lot about aerodynamics.
This class is required for aviation majors, so you have to take it. Tom and the other professors do an excellent job of teaching this class. Either buy the book or find it free online, because the test questions are identical to the end of chapter questions in the book. That was all I studied and did really well on the exams. Overall a great class
Tom is one of my favorite professors I've had at UND. I have learned so much and that has carried into my stage checks and being and overall better pilot. Make sure you take good notes in class because he goes over everything that is on the tests in class. Study guides are very helpful in his tests as well.
Tom's exams are hard, and in order to do well in this class you are going to have to apply yourself and study hard (You get study guides - use them). His lectures are very interesting, and so is he. Lots of funny story's and experience to be shared. Ask him questions, he's one of the most knowledgeable professors here at UND. Good luck :)
Zeidlik's class is not a breeze, but if you put in the work, you'll learn a ton. His lectures are engaging and he has a great sense of humor. For study prep, I found Unstuck study really helpful alongside the free textbook.
Had him for 309, currently taking his 276. His lectures are very funny and engaging, and he is great at storytelling, having many years of experience and expertise in many trades. Quiz and exam questions for 309 come directly from the book and lectures, so make sure you are reading the book and paying attention in class.
Tom was an incredible instructor for my AVIT 309 class. I had missed a couple quizzes because I missed some instructions (my own fault) and I was below a C in the class. Tom gave extra credit opportunities and I studied extremely hard for the final and passed the class with a B.
Avit 309 is taught by a handful of instructors throughout the semester. However, when Zeidlik is lecturing his lectures are very engaging. He obviously has tons of experience.
Lectures for AVIT 309 were shared across all of the staff in the physiology department. Make sure to take good notes and study for the tests. All of the lecturers were great, Zeidlik was the funniest. Had some good jokes and often got sidetracked talking about interesting but irrelevant stuff. Overall enjoyed the class.
I enjoyed 323 w Zeidlik. There's a lot of bad reviews on him, but it seems like he's calmed down over the years. Tests are not bad but only if you study. NOTHING on the test is on his slides. I heavily recommend you record his lectures and re listen to them and make a quizlet w those before the test, after I did that I got an A on every test.
