Lectures are online videos, You don't go to "friday" lectures- thats just for exams. Dr. Kanan is awesome and really good at explaining the material. Just a heads up - There are A LOT of videos every week. If you keep up with the lecture videos and study you'll do great. He even lets you call or text his personal phone with questions!
No curve...
Not gonna lie, this class has a lot of material in it, the lab exams are a lot more difficult and are made by a different professor. He is an amazing teacher, relays the information he teaches to real life experiences and that they are relatable. Watch the videos, study the lectures, and don't miss any homework assignments and you should be good!
The structure of the course isn't great. Since lectures by him are online and posted as videos, you may struggle. It's A LOT of material. He's great with communication. Very passionate about material. NO CURVE. To put this class into perspective, I had a 4.0 in college until this. Received my first EVER C.
Watch the videos, and don't cram everything last minute. Do all the homework& visible body, take advantage of extra credit, and do well on quizzes because every point matters in the end. Overall, Dr. Kanan is very generous with his students, and provides great examples.
Kanan is a great professor that is very dedicated to seeing his students succeed. Always available by a phone call or text if you have any questions. If you are willing to put in the work to understand the material rather than memorize then you can do in his class. No curve, but gave a fair amount of EC that would count as one.
Don't cram the videos, too many to watch so much material for each exam. Go to review labs everyday when possible. Nothing is cumulative. Lectures and the videos are actually interesting!
Dr. K is amazing, anytime I had questions I went to his office and he explained the topic so well. The videos are a must watch. You learn a lot, but you can really tell he genuinely loves teaching.
A wonderful teacher who makes learning interesting. He relates to outside information so you can take a different approach. One of my favorite teachers wish I can have him teach i all my classes.
I went from a 4.0 student to straight C's in both KN251 and KN252 because of him. Information overload. Avoid if possible. Consider a community college instead. He made the class overly hard and doesn't round you even if you're 0.01 away! Accessible for sure, but won't help much. Made my chance of getting into grad school quite slim. Please avoid!!
KN 251 is a hybrid class so lectures are online which sucks. Its a lot of lecture material to go through as well so dont take this class is you are taking other heavy loaded classes which was my mistake. professor Kansan knows his stuff and explains things super clear. Class itself is difficult due to the work load. Final grade is mainly exams
the best class I've taken at UIC. dr Kanan is amazing at teaching. you can just tell he is so passionate about the content and really cares that you actually understand whats going on. he relates content to real life for students to understand better. he's SO funny so go to discussion! lab is great too. I love this class so much.
Dr. Kanan was a good lecturer. This class is extremely test heavy and there is A LOT OF MATERIAL. Lectures are prerecorded and can be watched at any time. You have to manage your time well. Dr. Kanan is very accessible; ask him questions whenever you'd like- he says he has no life. Class is rough because there is a lot of material.
Dr. Kanan is very helpful and accessible. However, it is the structure of this course that makes it difficult. Including the finals, there are 10 exams total. That's on top of quizzes and weekly homework. However, if you keep up with lectures you can definitely get an A.
It is an overload of information and there are hours of lecture videos to watch per week. He said this class is easier at community colleges, so I would suggest taking them there instead. If you don't go to review labs or have outside help, it is difficult to pass.
The class structure is not the best as exams make up over 90% of the grade. There is a huge amount information for each weeks lecture. Lab is hard in 251 as tagging is not too clear and there is only 1 minute per station then you switch. Sometimes 1 minute is not enough time although he claims it is if you truly know the material. Dr.K is accessibl
Med student here who had Dr. Kanan. If you're premed I will say this class is the closest thing I've seen in undergrad that gives a glimpse of what med school is like (a semester of Kanan is crammed into about three weeks in med school). So grateful for Dr. Kanan's class.
This class is definitely difficult, but Professor Kanan is easily the nicest, most caring Professor I have had thus far. Im taking his course online due to COVID-19, and he literally has review sessions from 7pm to 3am, saying he wont leave the zoom until every persons questions are answered. He also holds 4-12am review sessions during finals.
Hes the best. Helped us all outside of class hours.
amazing
Professor Kanan is easily one of the best professors at UIC. His lectures were prerecorded but was always willing to take questions and help his students. He really cares about his students and even stayed up till 4 am twice hosting a review session on zoom! Make sure to do your part and you'll get an A
He is probably one of the best professors you will ever meet. He cares for his students and is super nice. He actually wants you to succeed which is hard to find in a professor. I took his class online due to Covid-19 and he did everything in his power to help us learn. He gets along with the students and even stayed up til 3am for a review session
Dr. Kanan is truly a gem of our university. The sheer volume of hours that he dedicates towards not only creating the material for the class but reviewing it with students is remarkable. This class is extremely dense in material and lecture videos can reach several hours per week, but only Dr. Kanan could somehow make it an awesome experience! <3
Dr. Kanan is absolutely amazing! He is caring, inspiring, kind and very intelligent person. This class is tough but I promise you that youll fall in love with anatomy if you take it with him. His review sessions helped so much on the finals. 10 exams total, some of them are very tough but its doable to get A if you work for it.
Dr. K out ranks all professors: most wholesome guy who cares about his students success. His life motto is I dont sleep and will stay up until 4 am helping his students study for finals. KN251 is a LOT of information and easily overwhelming; make a study plan, use VB and PAL cadavers. Cumulative finals so all info remains relevant!
He was unbelievable. The best professor Ive ever had and one of the best people out there.
Just take him. He is the best professor at UIC, who genuinely cares about his students. Read the textbook, watch lectures, go over pal and vb. 10 exams including final. 1 exam is dropped.
Lemme tell you this man will fight for you. He gives amazing review sessions and will stay up night and day until you understand the material. It's a hard class, but with the amount of resources given it will be nearly impossible to fail. I will miss him going forward!
Dr. Kanan is an amazing professor. He really cares about what hes teaching you and it shows in the way hes taken the time out to organize himself. This class is a lot of work and lecture heavy but if you put in the time and effort, show up to review sessions theres no reason you cant get an A in this course.
Dr. Kanan is the BEST professor I have ever had at UIC. He is understanding, inspirational, smart- ALL OF THE ABOVE. Lectures are heavy because of course our anatomy is super complex but he makes sure to explain everything the best way possible so it's easy to understand. I can't imagine another professor teaching this class as amazingly as he has.
Had a terrible experience with him.
Prof Kanan is hands down the BEST teacher I've had at UIC and I've had a lot of teachers. He cares about us passing and will help us understand the lesson no matter the time. He once stayed on zoom lecture with us until 2 am. If you ever have to chance to have Prof Kanan I highly recommend taking him!!
By far one the greatest professors at UIC. He truly cares about his students and their success. A lot of material is covered and 10 exams (5 labs and 5 lecture) throughout the semester. But if you read the textbook, do the homework, watch the lecture videos, and attend study sessions then you got this in the bag.
Best professor by far. It's a test heavy class so make sure to pay attention to lectures. Take good notes. Read the textbook and the slides. Make sure to attend the mandatory lab sessions because multiple absences results in failing the class. Use the recourses provided to prepare for the lab exams & be sure to study cadaver images. Great class.
The best professor I've had since coming to UIC.
He is one of the best Professor at UIC. He explained all the material really great! I have learned so much from him. Definitely recommend to take his course.
He's a good professor, he sucks at replying to emails. I was very busy this semester which was unfortunate, tanked my grade by a HUGE Margin. I had school loans to worry/work about and I missed an exam, asking for a make up, he never responded to my emails at all, even when it came to attendance. Dr. Kanan, if you are reading this, your car is slow
Dr. K is amazing! He went above and beyond to help me during the semester. If you want to take a class and have a teacher that cares about your success, take his class.
If you want to be ready for nursing school, take Dr. K. Attend labs and ask question, review sessions were great.
Yall Dr. Kanan is seriously the best professor I have ever had. I took anatomy and it was a lotttt of material, but he would go out of his way to make sure we were set up for success. He would even give his personal number and allow students to text or call at any time with questions. HIGHLYYY recommend
Dr. K is by far one of the best professors at UIC for pre-health students! His lectures are so detailed I barely needed to reference the textbook. He also held review sessions to prepare for each exam, devoting hours to ensure students understood the material (one review session even went till 1am) Overall great class even though it was online
Fall 2022: Dr. K is amazing! He's very passionate about his job and really cares about his students. The material is a bit heavy so putting in lots of effort for this course is required. Lectures are not in person but his lecture videos are still great! For exams, he hosts review sessions which are extremely helpful! Overall, great course and prof!
Dr. Kanan is a great professor. You can tell that he really loves his job by the way he teaches. Truly passionate about the course. I will say that the material and content is a LOT. There is so much information to learn for each exam and the cumulative exam is pretty hard. I'd say go to every review session and seriously pay attention to lectures.
Dr. Kanan is by far the best professor I've ever had at UIC. His lectures were extremely interesting and he made learning Anatomy enjoyable for me. I could tell he really cares for his students and wants them all to succeed. I applaud the hard work and dedication he puts forward to make this class run. I'm grateful to have met and learned from him.
Kanan is awesome. There is a lot of material to learn for the course, but he makes it enjoyable and easy to understand. His lectures are great, and he responds quickly to emails and texts. He is extremely caring about the students and class.
Amazing professor. Course is difficult but he makes himself very available and is very helpful. Definitely utilize all the resources he offers or it will be difficult to succeed
Dr. K is one of the best professors I've ever had. Make sure you stay on top of the material and use the office hours for extra help if you need it.
He truly cares for students, his teaching style is clear and remains the same throughout the entire semester, and his exam review sessions are amazing. overall he is a great instructor and I highly recommend him.
Amazing lectures, very thorough but there's a lot of them. Time consuming but worth it. Reading book important but not necessary. Tests can be hard but he gives his phone number in a syllabus for questions at any hour of the day and provides review for every test. Caring guy, understanding but requires documentation to retake 1 exam.
One of the, if not THE BEST PROFESSOR AT UIC. This class is very difficult if you do not prioritize it. I recommend not taking this class with other hard classes as it will take up most of your time. I loved going to office hours and his review sessions are amazing as he explains things so well. This guy made me love A&P
This is a really difficult class but Professor Kanan makes it so much more manageable. His way of explaining the material in lectures is so clear. His office hours are great and he shows he truly cares about his students. The best professor I had at UIC.
Dr. K is amazing! He spend so much time during office hours going over content. If you need help go to office hours
Dr. K is amazing! Truly the best professor at UIC. I went to his office hours and open labs and they helped a lot. If you need help in the class reach out.
Dr. Kanan is always willing to work with you (though you may need documentation). He is always accessible and clearly cares about his students. Went to his office hours and after we finished material he checked in with me. He wants people to succeed and he wants them to enjoy doing it. Class was super interesting as a premed. 10/10 class and human.
While the course can be difficult at times, Dr. Kanan and his team were great and really did care about each and every student. You just need to take the initiative and tell them if you don't understand something and they will immediately help you no matter how much time it takes. Use the textbook! Actually reading it will help you so much
Be ready to study bc this class really tests your limits. If you want an A you HAVE to read the book and work for it (spent 15-25 hrs per week on this class). Dr. Kanan is an amazing professor, but he is not lenient and will not accept excuses (if you miss lab twice, he will fail you). He has review sessions, open labs, and practice exams to help
Good prof. offers a lot of resources; However, he makes students lives unnecessarily difficult by refusing to curve (even if you are 0.01% away) Not very understanding when it comes to personal life issues and refuses to hear the student out. 2 lab absences is Failure. He's the only one that teaches KN at UIC so you don't really have much of choice
Dr. K is one of the best teachers at UIC. I attended his office hours multiple times fo extra help and he spent time explaining topics for me.
Make sure to attend open and lab ask questions if you need help. Dr. K was awesome! He went above and beyond to help me understand anatomy.
Professors at UIC need lessons from him on how to teach. These classes are content heavy classe but only Dr Kanan can simplify them such that they are understood. His enthusiasm and the resources he provides can motivate even the laziest student to study. The exams are hard but I love that this class is about teaching rather than examining.
One of the best classes at UIC. Dr. K was amazing. I would recommend him to anyone. Use the office hours if you have questions.
Dr. K is amazing. Come to his office hours if you need help. Lectures are online, but labs are on campus. I loved the labs for review.
Make sure you attend labs because they take attendance and ask lots of questions. We studied as a group and it was great for review
The lecture portion was all online recorded lectures, and I found it difficult since we were essentially teaching ourselves the lectures. The labs were all in-person, so it was easier since we were able to ask questions to the instructors, however Dr. Kanan doesn't teach the labs.
This class was challenging but I had a good understanding of the material in the end. If you wanna take anatomy, Dr. is amazing. Attend the review sessions.
He is very passionate, caring, attentive, and intelligent.
Dr. Kanan is easily one of the best profs. I've ever had at an academic institution. He's attentive to his students, genuinely passionate, and excited about what he teaches. His energy is infectious. I wish he could be the professor for all of the classes I take. If you ever have to take KN, do not hesitate to take it with Dr. Kanan.
Amazing professor. I never met someone so passionate and caring about a subject. He provides so much material to be able to succeed. My biggest tip is to look over lecture slides and the videos and then review using the book. Exams are hard as long as you understand the material. The biggest advice he gave me was to learn in my own words.
One of the best professors at UIC. Dr. Kanan is very passionate about what he teaches, and inspires his students to try their best and genuinely learn the material. he is also a very caring and understanding professor, and will accommodate you when needed. All lecture and lab videos are detailed, and everything corresponds to the exams. Easy HW too
Amazing professor and very clear, but as a person he's horrible. Rude enough to make some students cry when they try to meet with him in person since he never teaches his own courses.
I wish that the lectures were more informative. It was hard to distinguish what we needed to focus on and it seemed like he wanted us to use the lecture, readings, and slides to study but that is too overbearing. The exams are pretty straightforward.
Kanan is a very knowledgable about anatomy and it shows. The class is tough and takes a lot of effort to pass. Exams make up 75% of your grade. The homework is easy and helps bring your grade up. Highly recommend studying content from slides/videos/book for 2-3 hours daily because the class is so information packed.
This teacher looks like if you had a death in your family and you reported it to him for empathy he would not even bat an eye. That's how cold he is, doesn't even round BY THE SMALLEST POINTS. He's not real.
very rude person. does not have any compassion in his heart as a professor or regular person. I was so close to passing and refused to curve my grade while also being very rude. stay away from this professor if you have that option.
The course is quite hard as exams are like 70% of your overall grade. As a professor, there is no decent humanity aspect. Barely replies to emails, and if asked about any concern, his replies are very mean, and our opinion doesn't matter to him. Would not even curve grade by 1 point. Cold-hearted enough to make a person cry.
Dr. K is awesome!!! I reached out to him at the start of the semester because I was struggling and he was so nice and approachable. Definitely use office hours.
Great professor, make sure to watch the videos and reach out. And attend the review sessions, they were great.
One of the best professors at UIC, there are assignments almost every week but they were great for review. It was a challenging class but despite the challenge it was informative.
Anatomy isn't easy, but Dr. k made it understandable, he breaks down topics really well. Assignments are pretty straightforward and easy.
Dr. K was an amazing professor. He's outgoing and took the time to explain material. He genuinely knows what he's talking about and can break topics down so they're easy to understand and doesn't make you feel bad if you have questions.
Try to attend the review sessions, Dr. k does them live, they're great to review for exams. You can tell he wants you to succeed nd he will go over any questions. His lectures are engaging. Do the homework and review the practice exams. Overall, he made this class easier.
amazing, amazing lecturer who has a real talent for teaching. by far one of the best EDUCATORS i've ever had in terms of pure teaching abilities. definitely watch the videos btw. not the most accessible outside of class, but that's ok
This class will be dependent on the relationships you can make with others. Dr. Kanan is very difficult to reach out to with two of my emails not being responded too, and a few others complaining of this issue. The course is test heavy, so notes, reading, and videos will be needed to succeed. Beware of the hyper focused questions on exams as well.
Dr. K is awesome! He made this class easy. I went to office hours for extra review.
Kanan is a fantastic educator and clearly understands what he's teaching. He's super caring for his students and will do exam study groups for hours, up to 5 hours at a time. His class is very hard tho, so be prepared for extra time taken out of your day to study the material. Exams are very detail dense. Barely any homework or other work.
Hes a great professor but I wish he would have other things for a grade besides exams.
the exams are most of your grade and hard to study for bc he expects you to know 400+ slides. but his practice exams are pretty close to the real ones so actually use them! his exams lean more physio than anatomy so use smartbook and go to his reviews bc he is sooooo sweet and literally will explain everything 8 times if you need.
Dr. K was awesome! Super clear and cares about students - review sessions really helped. Easily one of my favorites.
Awesome teacher, he was great at responding and I loved the review sessions
Dr. K is hands down one of the best professors I've ever had! He's super kind, helpful, and genuinely cares about his students.
Dr K is amazing. He responds to emails fast and cares about your mental health. The class is very content heavy, which he understands, 4 exams total which are taken online on lockdown browser. He holds amazing review sessions that help a lot. I wish he taught more in person classes as he is one of the best professors I've had.
Make sure you watch the lecture videos-its a lot but you cannot do well in class without them. Very kind professor-wish this class was in person.
