Fake harvard accent. Lectures on one thing and tests on something completely different. Total jerk if you ask a question. RUN, DO NOT WALK TO ANOTHER PROFESSOR!
quite possible the worst teacher I've ever had!!! (if you can even call him a teacher...he didn't really teach me anything)
worst teacher in three years.. very confusing and uninterested in really making the class interesting. boring oh did i already say boring. class was full but increasingly getting slimmer by the mooment
He definately knows the subject matter but will give anyone a death stare if you ask a question- because he thinks everyone in his class is stupid. He expects you to already be an expert on the subject on the first day and I have never had harder study guide questions. The tests are impossibly difficult. This intro to Bio class was sink or swim.
The material is tough, and the tests make you think. His labs are VERY organized and he gives you study guides for the tests and labs. He is also very straightforward about what he wants and is helpful. No question is dumb. Attendence is not mandatory, but if you want to pass the class you better make the effort to show up and take good notes.
Frison makes you feel stupid if you ask him a question and his tests are beyond hard. If at all possible, get another teacher.
By far the worst teacher I've ever had in my whole college career. He makes you feel so stupid when asking a question, contradicts himself time and time again, and his tests are absolutely impossible to pass. Your better off teaching yourself by reading the book. Oh yeah, did I mention he help write the book. His class is a joke. Beware!!
Decent Prof. Will ask questions in class and treat you like an idiot if you answer incorrectly, just don't say anything. The class started pretty hard but got increasingly easier, and he gave a bunch of extra credit, however by the time the class got easier half the class already dropped.
Talks above students heads. Difficult to deal with at times.
He is VERY GOOD PROFESSOR!The subject is hard!a lot of terms! This class is like a gateway to A&P.If you good at his class keep going! It's true that by the end of the semester half of the students dropped.Take notes, attend classes, ask questions!Professor remembers good students!don't forget on-line tests!don't take his answers personally! He's joking
Loves his subject, but difficulty imparting that knowledge to students. Lectures on material not covered in book, and gives you the stare of stupidity when you ask for clarity. before taking this class, I loved science, now I don't. I would not recommend this professor to anyone!
Frison is a tough prof. Wants to teach students who are good students. Ask qustions, but think before you ask. Don't ask silly questions. He cares about students who care about the subject. If you work, you'll see the subject is not hard and he is a good prof.
This professor is difficult, but worth taking his class. If your looking for an easy credit, don't bother. He will make you work for your grade! An A is possible, I got one!
He talks instead of teaching. This is a comm college not graduate school. He answers your questions with a question. And explains it in the same way he previously did.
he would be better if he was considerate of single parents who work...oh..and those who try!!!
He's hard but he's fair!He just loves Biology.
good teacher he knows well a bout biology. be ready to learn when you attend his class. the class is hard but you can get an A if you attend the class, make good notes, and read the book.if you wanna take A and P i recommend you take his class
Complete and total jerk who is unwilling to accomodate! If you have a disability, he makes you feel like an inconvenience. Complete jack-a**. Fake "educated" accent.
Complete and total jerk who is unwilling to accomodate! If you have a disability, he makes you feel like an inconvenience. Complete jack. Fake "educated" accent.
I took this teacher years ago when I was a 28 yr old returning student and 8 months pregnant with my first child. There was a test scheduled for my due date and he refused to let me take it early or make it up. I ended up having to drop, after I had just gotten an A in AnP 1. Completely infelxible arrogant jerk.
i like his class. you have to keep up - but he knows biology. likes to talk. and yes, his attitude shows he doesn't like students who are not serious. if you want to LEARN biology, he's the guy.he provides a lot of "things to do" - do them and passing should be easy.
I took this class as an accelerated summer course. The class was literally 14 days long. This man should NOT be teaching an accelerated class. I think he was nice enough, he just knows his topic so well that it seems to be hard for him to teach it at an introductory level.
He's a tough teacher... but not because he cares about you and your success in the class, but because he enjoys being arrogant and demeaning his students. I would never recommend him to ANYONE. There is no quality in his method of teaching.
Just read the reviews. I got an A because I worked my butt off. I already have a BS degree and returning for an RN degree. He teaches like he's at a real university. All the comments make it sound like community college should be easier????? You come to all his classes and study from the text....don't skip class and take the test...you're fine
Genuinely invested in his students understanding of the material
He is one of the best. If you really come to school to learn , he is the one. You have to study prior to his class, he spend as much as time to explain for you in his office hours. he is fair, he wants to open students mind. He teach how to study, he is a great human.all bad things about him is because I think student don't want to study and just w
I just wanted to note that I took his Bio 111 class back in Spring of 2009. I still hear of those complaining about him.He teaches on a University level because he used to teach at a university, Hello we are in college now. I thank him for being strict and challenging because now I am in even more diffiult classes and his stratagies payed off
He teaches far beyond the scope of an intro class.i'm not saying that comm college should be easy! This man goes off on unrelated topics, spouting useless info from his pedastal. YES, he knows biology very well but as far as his teaching skills, they are poor. He is proud that 1/2 his students fail every semester! = more $ for the school, fyi
Good Prof but you must adapt. He is honest and straight forward from day 1, READ his instructions and obeyed by them.LAST NAME ALWAYS IS FIRST to him. He is very punctual and you must also be by his clock.Must make effort to see him during HIS office hours and show interest in his class. He gives plenty of opportunity to earn extra points.
FRISON, TOMMIE...is by far the WORST teacher ive had. he makes people feel like crap if they ask a question. his test are hard, and not part of the material he talks about in class. i attended everyday and ended up dropping on the last day i could. i wanted to stick with it, but it was just BS. b
I think Mr Frison is a very nice person, but a difficult instructor. I believe he isnt approachable at all. You must stick with the facts with a science class, and provide the student with the source of info if its outside of the text. He goes into every minute detail which makes test preparation almost impossible.Very arrogant at times
frison is cool..but very hard!!! im retaking the class this fall but with a different teacher... i should pass with a A+ after taking his class :)
We started out with 72 people this sem. and we are ending with 19. I am not a genius and this course does not require one to pass with an A. You do have to commit some time. If you can't put school above work and everything else, then dont bother. He gives so many supplemental points, i need 55% on the final to get an A.
Lots of people don't like Prof. Frison, but that's just because he expects you to LEARN instead of simply memorizing facts for tests. I studied harder for his class than my other 3 classes combined, but it was worth it. He is VERY particular, but in a way that's trying to prepare you for a career in science. And he's always available to help.
Frison makes this class impossible. As silly as it sounds studying will not help pass his tests. And he doesnt care if you unserstand the material. Dont waste your time and money simply get a different teacher.
Really, I don't understand or agree with all the negative comments concerning Professor Frison. His ability to convey the basics of biology was phenominal. His knowledge and overall interest and interaction with students was professional and always made available for anyone interested in learning these concepts.
U shouldn't have to drop everything else just to pass this INTRO class. Knowledgeable but extremely arrogant and spiteful man. Revels in making you feel small. Seriously, do yourself a favor, save yourself the aggravation, money and time and take it with a different teacher. Or better yet, take it at Meramec.
Sure, he has office hours, but when he looks at and treats you like you are dumb, who wants that? Unprofessional. Boring and poor lecturer. If your class starts out w/ 72 & ends w/ 19 (this happens every semester), maybe the prof needs to change some things. Knowledgeable yes, but a prick. Do not take his class. Ever. Thank me later.
It has absolutely nothing to do with people being lazy and not wanting to study it has everything to do with the teaching style. I don't have a problem with putting effort into a class. But efforts are usless in this class unless you are naturally good at science. I'm used to having tough teachers but not impossible ones. Don't take this teacher
You do not get in what you put in with this professor. I am a very bright student and it has nothing to do with lazyiness at all. I read the book and do the study guides and every thing else that he recomends. His test are impossible to pass. He is arrogant and speaks to you like and idiot if you have any questions. I do not recomment him at all!!!
I would also like to add that he claims he is from mississipi, but he likes to sound like he is from england I guess to sound more intelligent...everyone basically failed or got a d on his very first test so that should tell you everything you need to know. I know alot of the stuff but his test are designed for students to fail...do not take him!!!
I didn't really care for thid professor....seemed like he was too good to teach the class. He can make you feel dumb for asking questions and his test seemed to be made for you to fail. He teaches like you should already have a grasp on evrything. I dropped him ans most students do! BEWARE!!
He is very hard and covers topics above Bio 101 but if you plan on taking microbiology or other more advanced courses you will have a great start. You must do all extra credit but he will set you up for success.
Putting in hard work will not get you far in this class it may get you a D if you're lucky. His lectures are long and incomprehensible. He acts bothered or as if he's wasting his time if you dare ask him, the teacher a question. His teaching method is more of review as if biology is common knowledge and everyone should already know the subject.
I use to love Biology until I met this man. You're not allowed to ask questions during class. You have to stand in line outside of his office. Material covered in class is not what's on the test. I got a 0/100 because I failed to put a test number on my scantron. Really! I took good notes and read the book 2x, all for not. Impossible to pass
The absolute worst teacher I've ever had in my life. He is more interested in sounding intelligent than helping his students succeed and learn the material. He puts materials on tests that are not in the book, or taught in his class. He makes you feel dumb and inferior. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS
He a cool teacher!
I would not recommend this professor to anyone. The only reason I passed with an A is due to my insane study skills and the fact he drops some low grades. He's a great person, but not a great teacher! This is coming from someone STRAIGHT out of HS and has taken HS biology AND AP biology...
Prof. Frison is EXCELLENT. He is tough but he knows his stuff and I enjoyed his class. I would go to his office hours EVERYDAY after class because he was always AVAILABLE. Just be sure to study. He knows his material. Don't miss nor be late for class. He offers extra credit almost every class period. No way to FAIL unless at your own hands. STUDY!
Many say that if you work hard in this class you should pass, I disagree. I didn't work hard and got an A only cause I am good at science. This isn't true for others. Many take his class, work 10x harder than me but still fail. It's because he is inflexible. He'll tell you that he knows that life happens but doesn't help u. don't take his class.
Just finished a 6 week summer course with Prof. Frison and I've got to tell you it is not an easy class. Prof Frison holds you accountable (rare now days) and expects you to think critically. If you are up for a challenge and happen to be majoring in the Science/Medical fields, I recommend you take this course for a solid foundation. Enjoy!!!
Horrible teacher! He Refuses to give homework on black board to students, then says "Oh well that's your fault" I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS TEACHER
There is no way he is a Doctor. He needs to take an English class. Be prepared to teach yourself everything from real professors from YouTube, or pass by being belittled in his office. Minorities who plan on going into the medical field, GO TO ANOTHER SCHOOL, then come back to Forest Park for your other classes. Over half of student always drop.
The Good: If you make it past midterms, he basically hands out extra credit. He's extremely organized and clear about the grading, schedule and what it takes to pass. Also, he is very helpful to anyone that seeks help during office hours. The Bad: His tests are hard bc he has "more than one of the above" on every question. it kinda throws you off.
He over teaches the subject. He is not helpful. He tests on material that isn't in the book. He does not like questions! Do not take his class!!!!!!
The most anal teacher I've ever had! If last name is not first then last name expect a 0 on testquiz. Everything is his way or NO way at all. Belittles all students no matter what age they are or background. He doesn't care one lick about "Life happening". I do not recommend him at all.
Dr. Frison is very particular in all the wrong areas. It comes off as he cares more to point out that you don' really "read" (his trick) instructions more than if you really understand biology. He has shown poor and awkward social skills. Even when he tries to be nice it comes off as an insult or rude. in a class that began as 29 we ended w 5.
Very long boring lectures. Large class with no student connection whatsoever.
I had him for for Bio and A &P. Bio absolutely was horrible. It was a full semester class in a lecture hall. Out of 80 students only 28 of us were left after Midterms. But for A&P it was the usual 20-25 student class and it went amazing. Be ready for small quizzes and be sure to do the reading in the book prior to the next class.
I had Frison for Bio 111. I can see why people have a problem with him, but I enjoyed the class. He lectures during lecture hours and if you have questions, he ALWAYS offers time after class and during his office hours. He has a very dry, condescending nature about him. Do your study guide, read the book and research biology and you can get an A.
I've recently finished this semester with Mr. Frison and I must say though challenging, I genuinely enjoyed every minute. Take advantage of his office hours. Study study study. The more you study and pay attention to detail the more likely you are at succeeding. Stay focused he moves but gives you all you need ahead of time. Good luck!
Unless you are a person who loves science, DONT take this class. It is really, really tough.
Teacher knows his stuff but this is a tough class. You must read and study but it is really hard in my opinion. To prepare for his test because there isn't really a study guide besides questions from end of chpter. He is very particular. This class is tough. If you are not going into a bio degree or truly do not like Science, don't take
The worst professor I've yet to experience. Cannot believe this man is allowed to teach. He talked down to us at all times and was very difficult to communicate with, if not impossible to communicate with. He refuses to work with the students and made fun of the questions we asked. He is an embarrassment to teachers around the world.
doesnt help
He honestly is one of the best professors I've ever had. He delves into the deep understanding of biology the beauty of it. He does come off military but you walk away with a deeper understanding and respect for the biological world. Thumbs way up!!!
Worst professor ever. Taking him now for Introductory Biology. Very hard and talks down to you whenever you asks for questions or help. Very tough course. Study guides do NOT reflect tests.
organized but doesn't make sure his learn smart links are set up properly, considers you "late" if you show up right on time, confusing lectures that don't follow slides, focuses more on time and rules than teaching biology. research ALL your prof's first! find one that wants to teach rather than show their power and play games!
Dr. Frison is one of the smartest men I've ever known, and he's proud of the knowledge he has that benefits hard working students. Depending on the type of student you are, and how you value your life, time and money this professor can be beneficial. Dr. Frison isn't operating a daycare so don't expect him to babysit you. It's your future value it
Dr. Frison makes you work for your grade but if you have questions and come to his office he will talk with you. You cannot skip class and pass. He expects you to come to College which is where he teaches.I have taken him before and would take him again. Good teacher but be ready to learn.
This class is NOT easy! Seems harder than an intro class should be. You can't miss any classes or you will be lost. Test are hard. He does have an abrasive personality, you'll get used to it. If you utilize his office hours (he will go over everything!), do all ex. credit! do all learn smarts! and you should pass. Just be ready to work for it.
Remember, this is college and any professor that passes a student who is not ready to move on is only failing that student in the long run. If you pass Professor Frison's class, which is very possible with the right amount of effort, you will be ready to advance in any proceeding science class.
I loveee Dr. Frison! His class was somewhat challenging, but I feel like that's a normal thing to expect for a college course. All you really have to do is read and show up prepared and you should be okay as long as you do your part because he sure will. One thing I will say is that he can be hard to talk to.
Professor Frison's study guides do not reflect his exams. Good luck figuring out what will be on the exam. He is super nice and wants his students to succeed. However, If you are like me and need to study for a few days to do well on exams I would not recommend his class. The lectures often don't stay on course with his power points also.
Throughout the class it became clear he is more interested in boosting his ego and showing how smart he thinks he is to the class. Questions in class are not welcomed. Either it's "the wrong time for that" or a response that discourages your participation. His end goal for the class is to intimidate instead of teach. I wish I could write more here.
Office hours are a joke. Study guides are a joke, not even relatively close to whats on the exams, questions arent acceptable during class, hes more about silly rules than teaching the class. Lectures are more about making you look uneducated. This is my third semester in college and the FIRST class Ive EVER had to withdraw for a low grade.
Study guid is a joke! The material youre studying isnt even on the test. We cant really ask questions or he looks at you like youre stupid. Horrible teacher who talks like hes from England but , hes from the south ! Tried my hardest and still failed so I dropped the class!
Not very accomodating and shows no compassion. Will make tests/quizzes wrong if you forget to write name, course number, etc.
He is very initimidating. As someone who is not good with science, I had a hard time in his class, I failed most of the semester. But, if you show up, follow his rules, and are respectful, he will make it worth it for you and will make sure you pass, even if you dont have the best grades. If you stick it out, even with a bad grade, you will pass.
Prof Frison's class is rigorous. His lectures are vibrant, his sense of humor is witty but fun, and he enforces disciplined, but clearly stated objectives. I would recommend his class, but only to those who understand YOU have to be responsible for your learning and put in the required effort in to do well in his course.
He is unique and awesome. If slacking, laziness, or excuses are part of your character, this class is not for you. You have to show up on time, be alert and actively ask questions if you don't understand. I had the opportunity to have him and I am so glad. I have a thorough understanding of Bio to the point I can tutor it for other college students
He is very disrespectful not helpful never answering questions in class if I have a question I have to wait and go to his office hours at 7am.
Never answers questions just looks at you and laughs. He doesnt care much about people in general. He is the most arrogant person I have ever met. He walked out of class just to laugh at us. I would recommended bio 111 but with a different teacher! I think he finds so much happiness in watching his students struggle!
His class was a very hard class. He is a very intimidating professor as well.
If you are a late person dont take this class if you dont like your professors being extra dont take this class. This man is extra down to a T. So be prepared
I took his Intro Biology class fall semester and he was absolutely terrible. He hardly explained anything in his lectures, wouldn't make any time for you; no questions, nothing, even after class was over, and was extremely rude. I studied HARD for quizzes, exams, everything and still failed the class. Highly disappointed.
He's definitely not your typical teacher. Probably one of the toughest professors I've taken but not impossible. I gave up on really tuning into his lectures and just used my book, online resources, and classmates. You will NOT pass if you don't do the online work. Make a habit of coming in EARLY, I've seen classmates come on time still late
I took bio111 online and it was super easy. He gives out virtual labs and then one test each week over a chapter and its pretty much set up for you to get a 100% on it.
Taking his online class and he is the absolute worst professor ever! The syllabus states he responds to emails within 24-48 hours and it's been almost a month with no response! Grade is currently being affected because he hasn't cared to help nor input grades and now I'm dealing with people above him to get this fixed! Doesn't care about students!
Really an easy class, and clear on what needs done.
Gets straight to the point, I chose hybrid and passed with an A.
I am a biotechnology major, and this course was one of the worst STEM courses I have ever taken, solely because of the professor. I did well in the class by tuning out lectures in favor of reading the textbook. This man threw our first pop quiz in the recycling if you did not write your last name first, rather than first name last. Steer clear.
