Wouldn't take again

I'm in the Yoga class. Prof Toni has not adapted well to online classes. Instead of demonstrating the poses, she verbally tells us what to do and I can't understand and always have to look at what other students are doing. This once led to me horribly spraining my neck muscle since she wasn't clear. She also does not start on time and ends late.

Toni is knowledgeable about yoga and puts a lot of thought and effort into her class. She is attentive and always willing to give feedback. The fact that her class always starts and ends late does stress me out a bit as a student with a back to back schedule.

Through Toni's yoga classes, I have learned a lot about mental and physical resilience. Her no-nonsense attitude & words of wisdom are always motivating. Love the start of class mantras, & appreciate the mix of yogic philosophy and physical rigor. You will sweat, but your mind & body feel great afterwards.

This is my 7th semester with Toni Mar and she continues to teach one of the best yoga classes I've ever taken. Moving into remote learning has been difficult, but she has excelled in engaging with the students and providing a class that teaches you physical and mental strength, as well as prepares you for life ahead.

I really enjoy Toni's class! I like the way that she pushes us beyond our limits and allows us to be resilient. I feel very at peace when I'm in class due to the mantras, and words of wisdom which she shares. The only thing that I'm not a big fan of is that Toni explains things verbally & it's hard hearing it and not seeing it.

Toni is fantastic! I've taken General Conditioning twice and I'm currently on my second round taking Core 3 and my first in Vinyasa yoga 1. Workouts are simple but effective at improving physicality while getting you into the training (or meditative) mindset. Toni is knowledgeable and respected, and she's great at guiding people of all skill levels

I'm taking beginning Vinyasa Yoga. I think the course is doing fine, however, her teaching style over zoom is hard to follow for a beginner. She gives verbal direction with little to no visual demonstration and she often starts later than the course start time (and ends late).

The professor gives everything clear and nice instructions and it's easy to follow. You won't feel lost at any point and it's a great way to relax during this pandemic. And there's not hard work has to be "forced" to do during this class.

Toni is an amazing teacher! Her core class has definitely challenged me, and pushed me to do my best. Her different routines are detailed and challenging, and she is so great at motivating us all to keep going. She takes time to both explain the routine and answer any questions. I will definitely be taking more of her classes!

Really like this class it makes me workout in the morning while working on my form. I recommend this class if you are looking to learn more about the fundamentals. The only issue is that the class runs over. I would also suggest to warm up before starting the class (we do not do cat/cow we just jump into sun sal.). great way to start the day!

I appreciate how Toni guides her beginning yoga students through various yoga fundamentals, empowering us to continue our practice outside of class / with minimal instruction as well. I also enjoy learning to "flow" in line with the breath. I also believe that Toni genuinely cares for her students, and is very receptive to any concerns I've had!

The professor provides specific and clear instructions making it easy to follow. She always tells us the best way to get the most out of our workout. She is very knowledgeable and passionate about the workouts she makes us perform. Her class ends a little late but it understandable if you need to leave a little early.

She connects the spiritual, mental and physical practice of Yoga together which I have found to be extremely rewarding. She starts of class with an inspirational quotes and relates the challenges of poses with the challenges of everyday life and in courses. I am able to deeper in poses through combination of my growing physical and mental strength.

Toni is amazing! She is very knowledgeable and cares a great deal about her students and what she teaches. Her classes are a holistic experience and she'll work out your body as well as your mind. Toni is great at what she does period! She really know how you to make sure you not only get a great workout, but she makes sure that you understand how your body works. She teaches you drills that you can use forever (even after you graduate) and she teaches you health and nutrition tips that you can use for rest of your life. Overall great class!

Professor Mar is an excellent professor. She is extremely helpful even when class is through zoom. She is descriptive with each pose to the point where you can typically get a good depiction of what the pose is like based on her word choices and if we are unsure about a pose, she is more than happy to help. She provides great guidance and support.

Toni Mar is one of the first names I think of when people ask me for class recommendations. I have been active my whole life and have always loved working out on my own, but Toni was able to teach us to practice our exercise with an intention and confidence that has totally transformed my approach to exercise :)

Professor Mar's beginner Vinyasa class has been great! I really had no formal exposure to yoga and I was worried that I would quickly get lost, but that hasn't been the case. She is really great and keeping the class on a good pace for a newbie, and gives helpful critiques that make a lot of sense. I really enjoyed this class!

I absolutely LOVE Toni Mar's Core Conditioning 2 class! She always pushes students to give their all, and it has really paid off. I feel stronger than I ever have before. She also focuses on a more holistic view of physical health, so you will be able to get a sense of nutrition and recovery, as well as exercise.

Toni Mar is a great yoga instructor! She always takes the time to explain why we do poses a certain way / is very specific about form to keep you from injuring yourself. She has in-depth knowledge of the body that elevates your training! One note is that the pace, even in a beginner class, does move a little quickly (but manageable!!)

Toni is a tough instructor but an excellent one! She gives thorough instructions surrounding yoga poses and emphasizes fundamentals in terms of self awareness in poses, and actually being able to correct your own movements. I've taken yoga and core classes with Toni, and one thing is clear: she's committed to her students' personal growth. As someone with chronic pain, her classes have offered much relief. Toni Mar's core class is really a gem, quite a different experience from other PE that I've taken. She places a lot of emphasis on technique, which might seem unnecessary at first but is actually really important. I learned to tighten muscles I never really exercised before, and my core is feeling stronger every week.

I'm taking the Cross-Training Core and Yoga course with Toni. This semester it's virtual but that doesn't affect how much work each class is! Definitely happy I joined her class and will be taking another one with her next semester. Don't think that a level 1 PE class online is a breeze! You'll be tired each time but get stronger!

Taking beginner yoga with Toni Mar online has been a surprisingly smooth experience. I feel challenged in her class, she gives clear advice when she spots something incorrect over video, and has a great attitude each day. The practice is designed to expose you to the correct poses/breathing and makes you push yourself to the next level. I think that this class presents a wonderful opportunity to get in touch with yourself. It helps separate yourself from all the stress for an hour. Toni Mars class made me wish I could have taken PE every semester at Cal, and this is coming from someone who put exercise at the bottom of my priority list during the semester. Even over Zoom, she made sure to watch every student and coached them and made sure they knew how to do the exercise without hurting themselves. Super helpful!! And fun!

Many students at Cal aren't aware that they have access to practical health resources like this. All you have to do is show up, be intentional, and put in as much as you want to get out while Toni handles the rest. Toni breaks down how these exercises work in your body. In the beginning the workouts were really hard(was out of shape/no core training before)and I always got sore after them, but after a couple of weeks I could definitely feel a difference. After doing more and more workouts I stopped getting sore after them anymore and I started to feel more strength in my whole body.

She pushes you to do her best, so it's especially great if you feel like you slack or skip out on exercise without the structure of a class. By far one of the best teachers I've had! I'm taking Mindfulness and Stress Management with her and it has been an amazing experience! I took the Yoga Cross Training 2 class with Toni and it was great! She gives really helpful feedback and really cares for her students. The workouts are intense and I noticed I was getting so much stronger within only a couple weeks of taking this class. She also stresses the importance of nutrition and proper self care. Highly recommend!!

I was hesitant to take Yoga because I am a heavier set with very tense areas, but I still signed up for beginner yoga with Toni. This class has been anything but easy, but that's exactly where my growth has come from. Toni is awesome. I took Core Conditioning 1 with her, and not to flex or anything, but I'll be walking away from this class with more ab definition than I've ever had before. I genuinely loved all of the workouts she definitely makes you work but I feel 100% stronger. She teaches you exercise moves and body awareness and I 100/10 recommend.

Ive grown up to understand yoga through a western lens which only focuses on the physical practice. The way Toni teaches yoga - physical and philosophical - has changed my life. Toni is my favorite physical education instructor ever. I love the way she describes exercises step-by-step in order to help you get into the pose. She is very responsive by email and willing to answer questions for students. Although her classes are physically challenging, I think the results are worth the struggle.

She definitely challenged me (which is exactly what I want in a workout class), so if are prepared to work hard and improve your fitness and flexibility then this is a great class for you. There were times when her explanations or demonstrations weren't totally clear but I think a lot of time it was due to the difficulty to communicate over zoom

Toni is an amazing teacher! I took vinyasa yoga 1 with her, and it was the highlight of my semester. It was a great way to relieve stress from other classes. Toni is really great at teaching the fundamentals and different yoga poses step-by-step. Even over Zoom, I felt that her explanations were clear and easy to follow.

I just completed Yoga 1 with Toni. While it was definitely not easy, it was not impossible. To see & feel my body beginning to "wake up" was truly an accomplishment given my body size and inactivity. I really enjoyed taking her yoga class! I appreciate how she emphasizes that the journey of yoga is different for everyone and doing your best is all that matters. She was very accommodating for my injuries and told me how I could modify the poses. I learned a lot about myself and improved my ability to handle tough situations through her class.

I took a 6 week Core Conditioning summer class with Prof Mar. I attended asynchronously, but that didn't hinder any of my progress! Prof Mar really knows her stuff and gave substantial feedback on each of my workouts. She's very easy to communicate with, and I felt very encouraged by her - she made me want to succeed! I took Toni's 6-weeks Core Conditioning class. I was taking another class and also interning at the same time. Her 1hr workouts were the highlight of the day. I started to do them during my lunch break and it gave me so much energy to go through the rest of the day. It's amazing how in just six weeks I could see changes both in strength & fitness

Her summer yoga course gave me a physical and mental health jump start. I attended synchronously and asynchronously. Both were extremely effective methods to learn yoga. The summer core session help me get more physically active. It is so nice to workout with someone telling you what to do. No need to think, just put forth effort. The lectures were live and we had the option to watch recordings at our convenience. To get to my health goals, I will be taking several of her courses next semester. Phenominal class!

Professor Mar first reviewed the alignment at the beginning of class. I found this useful because its helping me make it muscle memory (especially since I cant exercise right now). Then Professor Mar went over the double curl routine. The different varieties of extension are what can make this exercise less or more challenging.

Starting my freshman year, you learn about your body, how to train to get the most out of each activity, nutrient recovery (which is crucial!!!), and more in Toni's class. I took this class to have a way to wake up my body in the mornings and it definitely did work. It not only helped with easing the tension I have from stress and walking everywhere but also was challenging enough to even make it feel like a morning workout. I totally recommend the class. Professor Mar's class taught me the nadi shodhana which was the most important part of the class for me. I have never practiced breathing past the anxiety GIFs that my therapists give me. Doing this not only woke me up from feeling sluggish, but it made me feel clearer in the head. Her classes aren't hard, but they make you push yourself.

I loved Toni as a Coach of the cross-training class (core/yoga). She is so meticulous about posture and alignment and teaches you why it is so important (avoid injuries!). She pushed me to work hard physically, but was flexible with the limitations of my injury, allowing me to submit reflections if I couldn't perform. Extremely responsible and helpful PE instructor! I've been taking her classes four times during my college life. I took core conditioning with her and she teaches all the fundamentals about the body, muscle groups, and the rationale behind each movement of drills, so the students can really understand what they are doing and why they are doing so.

Incredible instructor! By the end of the semester you'll feel stronger, more flexible, and with a new ability to manage stress through movement. Toni explains thoroughly how each drill/yoga pose works your muscles and gives helpful feedback throughout class to improve your skill set. It's a tough class but very worth it!

I took this class completely asynchronously bc of a conflict, and I was still able to learn so much! Asynch requires you to send 3-5min videos of your workout + commentary, and Toni provides you with wonderful feedback for your videos. Great way to get started in Yoga! I have take a few of her yoga classes. The techniques are taught in a manner that is easy to comprehend. Attendance it key to a good grade. There are no expectaions on the ability to do poses. Core 3 is the only correct way to start your morning. There is no thinking involed. You listen to maticulous instructions and move your body accordingly. Dr Mar did a fantastic job of describing the workouts, so much so that I could close my eyes for an hour session and do every movement just based off the names and descriptions she gave of them. The workouts were also fantastic and helped me lose 15 pounds in the span of 2 months! Beginner/intermediate fitness level peoples should take this course!

I did Toni's class remotely and really got a lot out of it. She pushes students to test their limits and move beyond them, not just passively do the exercises -- I was amazed at what my body was able to do by the end of the course. I really learned a lot and grew from the class.

Toni was great! I took Core Cond 3 and saw ENORMOUS improvement in my strength. She explains workouts very clearly, varies the workouts between classes so they're fun and interesting while still clearly building on each other, and gives great feedback. Toni Mar is one of the nicest professors I've ever had. As long as you participate in class, or watch the asynchronous video later, you will pass the class. She truly cares about her students, and even has a pizza party at the end of the semester.

Toni is amazing at what she does. She knows yoga to the core and imparts that knowledge during the practices. I am really glad I took this course. It's at 7 am which is a stretch but knowing that I will spend a solid one hour with my body helps.

I have been taking classes with Toni for 3 semesters now and I couldn't be happier. Her classes always leave me feeling rejuvenated and ready to take on the day. Everyone comes into each class at differing levels and abilities and she gives a lot of space for growing and improvement. Will be taking her classes for the rest of my undergrad!

I took 2 of her classes: yoga and mindfulness and I enjoyed both. Her teaching style is very easy to understand. She is big on zen and her energy is so peaceful, even though I took both classes asynchronously, I still felt her amazing energy. Pe3 is no cakewalk class! You are really challenged and improve your strength and flexibility throughout the semester. She is also very understanding of the busyness of being a student at Cal. I was behind in the class a few weeks and we worked out a solution to get me caught up. I recommend every student at Cal take a PE course with Professor Mar!

Taking Core1 with Prof Toni Mar is the best decision I have ever made. She explains why we do each routine + no class is ever the same. My key takeaway from this class was to understand the importance of consistency. She has taught me to give priority to my health, and has made the act of PE FUN, which I didn't think was possible.

I learned life lessons from Toni. I take Vinyasa online course this semester to relieve my stress and the tightness in my shoulder. Throughout the pratices, I felt my chest opening up and body becoming more flexible. Toni guides us through the moves and will correct the wrong movements if spotted. Looking forward to building in more flexibility and stability within my body!

Currently taking core conditioning with Toni and really enjoyed the class! I took it so that I can get some regular exercises throughout the week and I think this class definitely helped me accomplish that goal. I do weight training for bodybuilding but my time in her yoga class was amazing! I was able to train in a way I normally don't and I learned so much about both yoga and my typical weightlifting work because of Professor's background in kinesiology. I definitely recommend her courses for anyone looking to try a new kind of fitness or mindfulness!

I took Professor Toni's core conditioning class and I truly enjoyed the challenge her workouts provided! It is a rigorous training program that is doable at all levels because the training is progressive week by week as we build on endurance and stamina. I took her core conditioning class, and as a male strength athlete, I finished each workout exhausted and drenched in sweat. She does not slack and makes you work to your limits. Her strict attendance policy keeps you in check, and in my case, after surviving the flu, and making up several classes, all the work culminated me in having more stamina

Toni is very encouraging and kind, and I'm glad to be in her class. The workouts are intense but I definitely feel more fit. Abt the yoga class- it is very good. My flexibility has improved and I can touch my toes for the first time in a long time. Also, yoga isn't just a “female sport” - men can definitely participate too (I say this as a male)!

Toni is extremely knowledgeable about yoga and human anatomy. She explains her knowledge well. I have a hard time with many of the poses due to my body type, but she is still understanding when I cannot do some poses. My strength has improved greatly since the start of the class, and I feel more confident in yoga after taking this class.

I took Toni's core conditioning class, and it was really worthwhile. I learned so much about the human body, and especially about my own body, through our exercises and Toni's explanations. I really appreciated how she would give reasons for why you should or shouldn't do an exercise a certain way, unlike typical instructors.

I've been taking Toni's 7am Vinyasa class for 3 years, and it's the best way to start the day. Toni pushes you to dig deep into poses, strengthening and healing your muscles. Waking up early can be tough, but I always leave feeling energized to take on the day. This has been one of my favorite classes at Berkeley!

The exercises are ones you likely would not choose to do own your own because they are difficult, but you get a solid workout. I really had such a great time in the Core&Yoga class and Core&Conditioning class. It is my last semester at Cal and I will say it is one of the best two classes I have ever taken at Cal and I am so grateful that I got to do this PE class. I took Toni's online, asynchronous Vinyasa course and it was awesome! She really helps you develop a solid understanding of basic and intermediate yoga poses and sequences, along with how to modify them for more challenging stretches. I feel so much more aware of how my body moves now and what my limits are. I would definitely recommend!

Unfortunately, I had to drop the class prior to its completion as I received a series of injuries that made participating difficult. However, Professor Mar was extremely accommodating and communicative with me during this time. Her workouts are phenomenal, and gradually build your endurance! She is awesome! She is very strict about attendance and making up classes. At some point my leg got pretty injured (not in class) and when I came in and showed her I could barely walk, I still had to do yoga and she wasn't sympathetic at all. I would have just gone home and not gone to class but then I would have missed too many and failed the course.

Ms. Mar is great. The convenience of being able to take the vinyasa yoga class online allowed me to take a class I likely would not have had time for. Toni is the best! The whole class was a great experience- Toni teaches you how to properly do yoga poses and emphasizes what body parts you should be focusing on. I took the online yoga class and it was a lot of fun. Attendance was important and every missed class needed to be made up with a discussion post or video. it wasn't until I took Toni's class that I truly learned how to do yoga properly. She walks you through every pose with great description and visualization.
