Read the book.
I had a bad impression of her for the first few days, but she's hilarious, and not too formal. She goes on short but fairly frequent tangents, and she brought her son to class one day. She also explains the concepts verrrry clearly. She writes everything on the chalkboard instead of using powerpoints so you can follow along.
Weiss is THE professor to get for Intro Microeconomics. She is a lot of fun and makes the subject matter both interesting and comprehensible. The course isn't necessarily easy, but an A is very attainable with a little bit of effort. Professor Weiss makes herself available for help and just does a superb job overall.
Great teacher, very intelligent and helpful. However, her class is hard and she does not want you to get an A. The class average grade is a C so beware. Do not take her class if you want to go to grad school!
Go to class, read the book, and use the study guide for practice problems. An A is achievable if you work hard. She's pretty clear and straight-forward, just beware of trick questions on the tests. If you piss her off (by talking or texting in class) she'll call you out on it in front of everyone. Otherwise, she's nice and gives good explanations.
she is a complete ****. she grades on extremely biased standpoint on how much she does or doesn't like you. she gets annoyed when you go in for help during office hours.
Weiss is a really good professor but she's very demanding. Her tests are very difficult but she usually scales them. She is very fair and understanding. Everything is very straight forward but still very difficult. An A is possible but only with a lot of work. She's funny and her tangents are always interesting.
Weiss is an extremely intelligent (albeit peculiar) professor who usually finds a way to keep her lectures interesting and relevant. The tests are extremely difficult (but sometimes scaled) and a good grade can only be attained with hard work and dedication. Infrequent homework but she grades them harshly. Overall I recommend her.
Weiss is a very good instructor. She explains everything very clearly and keeps her lectures interesting. If you pay attention in lecture and use the study guide you can get an A. The class isn't easy, but it's not close to as hard as everyone has made it out to be.
Very nice lady, makes the material really easy to understand. Almost never uses the book, but it is a good reference for formulas and definitions. Tests are somewhat easy and homework is easy.
the class isn't that easy. i did okay on the first two tests and on the final, but failed the third midterm. she helped me out in the end by weighing my exam more than the third midterm so that i ended up with a C+ if you do well on the homework and go to class it will help your grade
Weiss is a very good lecturer. She makes class interesting and engaging. Tests are not hard if you pay attention in class and understand the material. Doesn't really follow the book but she asks one or two questions from the book on each test.
Weiss is a likable professor, but don't let her casual demeanor fool you - tests are tough. A couple of HW assignments over the semester, which isn't fun either. Attendance is 10%. It is absolutely imperative to know the econ jargon forwards and back for the tests.
She teachers the material clearly, but it is clearly on you, the student, to put in the work in order to get a good grade.
Weiss is an amazing teacher but her tests are an absolute ****. If you study a lot and use the workbook you can get an A but it will require a significant amount of work. Still Weiss more than makes up for it. I learned more from her than any other professor at Tulane.
Pretty much the same deal as the rest of the comments. She's a good teacher, but the tests are a killer, and she expects you to know things inside out and backwards. She'll help you if you need it, but that won't guarantee that you'll do much better.
Easy class, smart professor. Go to class and use the study guide and you will do fine.
Amazing teacher. Knows how we learn and teaches accordingly. takes attendance but its to your benefit to attend anyway. classes aren't boring, tests are straightforward. hated micro in high school but she really made it fun and easy. TAKE HER CLASS!
I wish Toni Weiss would teach every class at Tulane. Her lectures are brilliant, though her tests can be back-breaking. Study up for her midterms and final--you'll need to, trust me--and you'll enjoy by far the best Econ class to be found. :)
Very helpful, it's impossible not to like her.
Professor Weiss is probably one of the best professors I've had at Tulane. I had no interest in taking econ, but ended up loving her class. She explains everything very well, and sincerely cares about her students. Always willing to help, go to her office hours
Weiss is one of my favorite professors. She has a very dry wit and it is really funny. She could probably make any subject interesting. As for the class, just follow the study guides and you're good to go.
Best professor at Tulane. You MUST take her class! Extremely helpful, intelligent, and funny.
She is a really great professor - will answer any question.
Weiss is amazing. She expects a lot from her students, but she is always available to help them out. She brings Economics to the students' level by giving examples they would understand. She gives out treats a lot, and she is very entertaining. I don't really love the subject, but I enjoy her class!
I enjoyed the class. Subject matter can be a bit dull if your not into econ, but I did enjoy it. As a professor I thought she was pretty good. Not the best I've ever had, but very nice and helpful.
She is heaven's gift to students. She is SO clear and truly makes herself so available to help students out. And while we do have weekly online homework, it really helps your grade out! And she gives food out in class during "class experiments!"
She is an amazing professor! She definitely expects you to put in effort but she is always extremely understanding of whatever circumstances may arise. She is very approachable and I highly suggest you take her class.
One of the best because she's great in the classroom - uses fun examples to keep the class interested on a boring topic. The work can be challenging, and you learn most of the material during her lectures. Do the readings and don't overlook anything while studying.
My favorite teacher so far at tulane. She makes class almost fun, and have no interest in econ. ALso, if you go to class ( she lets you skip up to 4 classes) you will understand the material. She is just a great teacher. Her tests are fair, and you should not blow off the APlia program she uses because it could easily help or hurt your grade.
Highly recommended! Do the textbook reading and do the Aplia assignments right after and it is not a hard class. Weiss does a great job of making things clear and engaging students who have no interest in economics
She is a really good Macro teacher, but extremely difficult. You think you understand stuff in class, then the textbook throws you off. She references her Mirco class EVERY SINGLE DAY and I did not have her-really frustrating. If you want to take her class, I suggest taking her Micro class before the Macro one.
you do not need to take her or any mirco class before her macro. her lectures are fine but all the critical information comes form the text book. she is very liberal and frequently will say things that are more opinionated than factual as if they are clear as day facts. she also assigns reading from the NY times. test are hard, book VERY important
Class attendance is mandatory, you can only miss 5 classes. Lectures are helpful but you really need to read the chapters. Aplia assignments are complicated. Test are way to long for 50min class and really hard. you must pass the final to pass the class. she doesn't have much patience, but can be funny at times.
The best econ professor ever! nice and funny. her class is really interesting. you will get a great reult if you work hard enough. the class is not hard at all if you go through the text book and pay attention in the class.
Great Professor. Interesting and tries to make class fun. If you go to class and do the Aplia assignments, you'll do fine.
READ AND USE THE TEXTBOOK! -- especially if it is "Macroeconomics" by Hall. This amazing economics book is the class's true instructor. Ms. Weiss does an adequate job of directing the course. If you read the book before each lecture, the Aplia assignments and exams should be fine. In general, those interested in economics should do fine.
Very nice with that whole jewish mother vibe. Attendance is mandatory. She dropped me from an A to an A- in micro because i had six absences. Going to office hours is very important because she will know and like you and essentially complete assignments for you. I am going to miss her.
She is awesome. She got me really interested in Macroeconomics and she explains things very well and breaks them down for you. Long tests- she prepares you well, but you still have to study. She is quirky and funny too.
great teacher, keeps you engaged and always answers questions both in and out of class. weekly homeworks are a little tedious but relatively easy and definitely help you learn in the long run. tests are definitely challenging if you're not an econ person but if you study/do the homework they aren't bad either. overall great class.
Love her! She is one of the few professors I have found that genuinely cares about her students and wants you to succeed. Don't get me wrong, her tests are hard, but study your butt off for the first one and you'll be fine. do the practice test she gives you. it's the same format. great teacher!
She is not that great of a teacher and her class is way to hard for a 101. Plus she tells bad stories
Great teacher for micro but warning: DO NOT TAKE HER FOR MACRO. she messes up in her notes, does not explain the concepts well, and even says she likes micro WAY more than macro. also tests are extremely difficult. do not take her for macro!!
She is awesome! One of my favorite professors at Tulane. Very clear and helpful.
DO NOT TAKE FOR MACRO! I'm an incredibly good student who liked economics and took it in high school and her teaching in class did not prepare you for her tests. She tends to be hard to comprehend and prides herself with her availability while what she's teaching appears trickily worded in multiple choice form and no partialcredit. DO NOT TAKE HER!
Very nice teacher but lectures can be very boring and your entire grade is based on tests that have trick questions that even if you know the material if you dont understand a few of the concepts you can still end up failing.
This class is amazing! I hated economics prior to her class but she has brought me into a new light. Her lectures keep me interested and the material she covers in class adequatly reinforces what we are learning. Test are hard, but DUH! this is a college course! You'll do fine as long as you honestly understand the material. Definitely recommend
She's a pretty good professor. She definitely knows what she is talking about so the classes are interesting. However, the tests are really hard! MAKE SURE YOU TAKE MICRO BEFORE TAKING THIS CLASS.
Dr. Weiss tends to want to stick to the syllabus strictly, and ignores if students do not understand the material. So much so that she actually had our class teach an entire chapter to ourselves to stay on schedule. Also, she has been teaching this stuff so long, she has her own names for some of the concepts that are different.
You need to study a lot to do well on the tests, but if you study they aren't bad. Professor Weiss tries to make sure you understand everything and is there to help if you don't. Challenging but rewarding!
She come across as nice and friendly and seems willing to help students. I personally found the class tests difficult but found the lectures engaging. Not my favorite but worth taking.
I love her as a teacher! Her tests are very challenging but I learn a lot have have becomed much more interested in Economics because I had her. Taking her macro class next semester!
Professor Weiss is a very nice lady... her tests, however, are not. Often times she will not cover all the information in class and reading and understanding the book is critical. She is available during office hours, but her tests are very trick and full of trick questions and are too long for a 50 minute period. Too difficult for a 1010 class.
Be prepared for an extremely tough (although I'm not very numbers/graph oriented.) I studied so hard for every test and ended up with a not so great grade. Dr. Weiss is really nice/funny/understanding, but do not take this class if you want an easy A. You def have to have the textbook.
Toni is very nice, but not very understanding or easy! The tests are very hard with no curves and she is very strict on attendance which sucks for a 9am class.....
Professor Weiss is a really good professor. If you pay attention in class, especially to her slide questions, they will show up on midterms. Does require a lot of studying to get solid midterm grades, but well worth the effort. I recommend her class.
Toni, while having good intentions, tends to lack clarity in her teaching of this class. I personally found the class to be hard because she was not very understanding of the not unusual fact that I had trouble with the material. Must have a mind for economics for her to like you and office hours only reiterate what she's already taught in class.
Professor Weiss is a good teacher but her tests are pretty difficult and it is easy to get lost during her lectures. Definitely not an easy A, but she cares about her students and wants you to do well.
Not a clear teacher. Never available to meet with students. Spent a lot of the lecture time drawing graphs, writing definitions, and doing multiple choice questions that students had to explain to each other. The homework was tedious and related to the textbook, yet lectures and tests did not correlate at all with the textbook. Would not recommend.
Prof. Weiss seems like she knows what she's teaching, but doesn't teach the information very well. Not efficient in lessons, takes way too much time in handwriting all notes on board. Tests are ridiculous - all multiple choice, all trick questions no matter how much you study. Essays are explaining answers to M/C questions, ridiculous format.
unless you have prior knowledge of Econ do not take her. Tests are extremely difficult and you get double the points taken off if you have to explain multiple choice in the short answer section
Toni is a fantastic teacher. Her class structure is organized and engaging, although she sometimes can go on a tangent it always ties back in. Her tests are easy if you just study - the material is all straightforward.
She was always engaging in class and gave real life examples. She included the class in her lectures to keep us attentive. Her tests are very hard so study A LOT. However, if you do study a lot and actually learn the material you will earn a good grade.
Professor Weiss was one of my favorite professors. Her passion for Econ shines through. I went to her office countless times during the semester, and she was always eager to help. I would definitely recommend taking a class with her before you graduate!
There's no secret to doing well in her class: pay attention, do the homework and relate whatever you're learning to real life. Toni may give some interesting examples using her kids or experiences but they're all pretty applicable and not just random tangents as some people suggested. I'll be taking Macro with her this spring
One of the best professors I've had so far at Tulane. Class is always engaging and she is very clear in her lectures. Tests may seem difficult at first, but if you go to office hours and study the practice midterms, it's not difficult to do well. After two semesters with her, I am now an Econ major! Take her!
She is a really poor professor. All you need to do is the practice midterms and complete the online homework assignments and you are guaranteed an A. Her class lectures are single handedly the most boring class periods I have ever had in my life, and she spends more than 30 minutes explaining one answer to a multiple choice question. AVOID HER.
Took her two semesters. Found her class really engaging. There for you when you needed help. Homework wasn't very helpful and the textbook wasn't really necessary but overall really good class.
She's a great professor, always clarifying tricky subjects and always willing to help boost your grade if you need it. That being said, tests are hard. If you put in work you'll do fine.
I think Dr. Weiss is one of the best most engaging professors at Tulane. That being said, she's really really hard. Her tests are very difficult no matter how much you study. However, if you want to understand Micro, take her. She is willing to help and slow down, which is great.
Prof. Weiss is a fantastic Micro teacher. She really genuinely knows what she is talking about and does a fantastic job explaining it. Yes, you'll have to study hard, and sometimes her tests will be a function of which version you get of it, but you will, for sure, understand Micro if you put the work in
Toni Weiss is a fantastic professor. The material is tough but she makes it easy to understand by using real-life examples. Ms. Weiss takes it one step at a time and is very helpful if you need to go to her office hours. The practice midterms are insanely helpful and despite having 400 students she is still kind and available for you. Great teacher
Toni Weiss has been the best teacher I've had at Tulane. She is hard. You will have to earn a good grade. If you walk away with a B, you should pat yourself on the back. With that all being said, however, she teaches the material very well. It was a big class (190 students) but you still feel like she is teaching directly to you.
Phenomenal professor. Breaks down concepts, engages the entire class, explains many practice problems, and laughs while doing it. Attendance is mandatory, but she doesn't waste your time. Three midterms and a final. Challenging, but no surprises. If you put in the time you will get good results. Aplia serves to provide additional practice.
Professor Weiss was my favorite teacher I've had at Tulane so far. She is funny, understanding, and truly looks out for her students. You will learn, so it's not going to be the biggest joke, but it's certainly not overly challenging. Take her class, you won't regret it
She tries really hard to be a good teacher- and succeeds! I was in a class with 190 students, but she still took the time to answer everyone's questions. She does take attendance and she uses clickers to have everyone answer questions in class, but I found that going to class is super helpful because some of the material can be confusing.
Great professor and very knowledgeable. However, her tests are extremely hard and confusing.
Prof. Weiss is a very good teacher who makes sure that everyone understands the material, not just so they can pass a test, but truly understand the material. The class was not too difficult once you got the hang of her tests. I would recommend taking Weiss, as long as you are ok with pretty large class sizes. my Intro to Micro class was 190.
I took professor Weiss' class my freshman year at Tulane. At first I did poorly on her first exams but as I prepared myself as she suggested when we met, I went from getting a D to an A. She's so enthusiastic and makes me want to get out of bed just to go to her class. I love how she relates the class to her life in fun ways. I admire her so much.
Prof Weiss is very clear when teaching. I found that I learned a lot but the tests were difficult. One thing that I was not happy about was she said attendance was 5% of our grade and then didn't even bother counting it. I was disappointed and thought that it is not fair that she didn't go by what the syllabus said.
Great Micro professor-- makes everything very clear cut, however she struggled to present the material in the same and clear and concise manner for Macro. Would often ask clicker questions before going over the material covered in the question in her lectures
Took her for Micro and Macro, she was tough. I studied so much and got an A in micro and haven't taken the final yet for Macro. I understand the way she teaches well. Its lecture based and she writes notes on the board. I didn't find her boring at all. The aplia homework is a pain but boosts grades. You shouldn't skip because attendance is 15%
Professor Weiss is a very good teacher, albeit a tough one. Her lectures were extremely helpful for understanding the material, and if you have any questions she is always free outside of class. You do need to study a lot for her tests though, but if you study enough and truly understand the material you will be fine. My suggestion would be to read
toni weiss is a New Orleans economic consultant who cares about her students and is extremely willing to help. her class is a great Micro 101 class that adequately prepares you to be an economics major. her tests are not hard and require a lot of studying
She is really approachable and will give you opportunities to argue your test grades, but her tests are extremely difficult. I would recommend going in for office hours if you want help from her because she really makes you think during the tests so it is hard to get good grades.
She's an amazing professor just be aware that the tests blind side everyone! Everyone i knew that took her(myself included) did very well on the homework and group assignments and were not prepared for her tests. Practice exams are very black and white, but her exams ask a lot of theoreticals. Just be ready!!
Took both 1010 and 1020. Class broken up into three trimester exams. homework is relatively easy, teaches you a lot and helps your grade. the exams can be tough, but if you study the material they are definitely doable. I enjoyed Prof. Weiss' lectures. they were detailed and really helped me understand the material. take good notes and study them.
She has really interesting and detailed lectures that helped me to pass the class. If you take good notes, you should do fine on the tests. The tests are pretty difficult, but at least there are a few so the grades all balance out. She is not very helpful during office hours, but at least her lectures are great! Very nice person as well.
Professor Weiss is a fantastic teacher. Her lectures are interesting, and the tests are really ok if you studied for them and did the practice tests online. You should probably go to class, because attendance is graded. The pro is that if you go to class reading the book is pretty much optional.
does a great job at making large lecture halls feel smaller. If the class is confused on a topic she will know and keep explaining until the majority gets it.
Toni Weiss is a very nice woman, but she is not a great teacher. She does not teach information clearly and if you don't understand something expect to have to learn it from a friend. Although she tries to relate the class to everyday life she does not explain things well at all. Tests are very difficult and she barely prepares you for them.
Toni Weiss is really cool, she's straight up but will help you if you need it. The tests are really hard, you have to work for a good grade. An A is not too attainable. But she's really organized and if you put in the work you can do well.
T Weiss is a solid teacher. Lectures are boring but you have to go to class. Always available and willing to help. Tests are impossible though. Studied for hours and would never perform. Also, when you ask a question in class, she makes the class try to explain it rather than telling you or helping you out.
Toni Weiss is a nice person and her lectures are clear if you pay attention, especially since she asks clicker questions every day. Many people struggle with her tests because you have to know how to apply the lessons that you learn to actual problems. She has multiple office hours and is willing to help you at any point.
Toni Weiss has great lectures and really keeps a class of 180 people interested. Some people say her tests are tough, but if you pay attention in class and read the book, the tests really aren't too bad. They aren't easy. But they're very possible. I would recommend this professor and I'm taking her again next semester.
She is a nice person and good lecturer, but her test are incredibly hard. Also the book is useless for tests, just use the practice tests to study
Toni makes you work for an A. The homework is long and attendance is mandatory because she has you answer clicker questions in class. There are definitely easier teachers in the econ department, but she is always available for help and doesn't make you feel stupid for asking questions. Her lectures kept my attention but the tests are impossible.
Her teaching style was incredibly scattered and did not prepare you for her exams, which are multiple choice with a short-answer section requiring you to justify certain MC answers. She's not particularly nice or likeable, and comes off as a little rude and demanding. Outright tells you her class average falls between a C+ and B-.
I have taken Weiss for intro microeconomics, and took her again for intermediate. I liked her a lot more in intermediate. She learns everyone's names, and will move at an appropriate pace. Definitely a hard class, but you will definitely learn the material.
I really like her teaching styles; she tries to explain everything fully and gives good examples. She wants to make sure everyone gets it before moving on, sometimes takes even too much time explaining something. You definitely have to study well for the tests, but once you study, they are not that hard. If you skip class you miss clicker points.
Did not enjoy Toni Weiss. She gets angry when the class does not know the answers to questions even though she rushes through lessons like she has a plane to catch. Also, she is so sarcastic and rude. Take someone else.
Professor Weiss is not for someone looking to get an easy A. If you want to learn a lot about economics (which everybody should) or are looking into potentially making econ a major I would HIGHLY recommend taking Weiss. I worked harder in this class than any other as a freshman at Tulane, but it also made me realize that econ was the major for me.
I loved her enthusiasm and the way she taught her class. I really felt like I learned something and enjoyed going to her class. When it came to her tests, they were the hardest tests I've ever taken. Is it impossible? No, but its super hard. But, she cares about her students and makes sure to help in any way possible.
Solid for Micro, but much much worse for macro. Her tests are pretty hard, but I studied very hard for both classes and pulled out A's in both. There was a decent curve so that saved me. Clicker questions are annoying, hence you have to show up for class. My econ labs are also annoying and can be difficult at times.
Each class starts with clicker questions (so if you skip class, you lose points) and then she lectures and draws graphs. Lectures are fairly engaging, but it is very easy to fall behind. She is a good teacher but a hard grader. The midterms are really difficult, and the online homework often doesn't correspond to class. I don't use the textbook.
She is very knowledgeable, and she conveys her knowledge well. My only complaint is that she is a very tough grader.
Weiss' midterms are impossible. Clicker points are also hard even though they should help your grade. My Econ Lab assignments are completely irrelevant to what we learn in class and what we are tested on. Our class questions and discussions are at a much lower level of difficulty than the test questions.
Professor Weiss really knows her stuff and can explain concepts very well. She manages to keep a class of about 180 engaged. The clicker questions and MyEconlab can be a bit annoying, but they do serve a purpose. Do the practice problems she gives you and you'll do fine. She does make you really work for that A though.
Attendance isn't "mandatory," so to speak, but the clicker questions she does every class add up and make it mandatory in reality. She's good at explaining concepts in class, but stiff in her grading for the tests.
While Professor Weiss is a relatively good lecturer and is good at teaching the material, she inherently sets up students for failure. The 2-3 finals are almost impossible to prepare for as they are meant to trick you. Also, in final grades, she does not round up even fractions of a percentage and will not error in your favor.
She is horrible at responding to e-mails if you have a question. Her Tests are very hard, and you MUST go to class.
Material can get difficult and her tests can be tricky, but if you really want to learn econ I'd suggest her. Her lectures are interesting and she tries to make sure everyone understands what she's talking about.
Hardest course I've taken at Tulane.
This is my second semester taking Prof. Weiss and I still love her. True, her tests are difficult, but nothing unreasonable. The way her class is structured (with the midterms, in-class projects, and lectures) she wants you to really understand economics. She is probably one of the most difficult professors for intro macro, but you will learn a lot
If you really want to learn econ, take Weiss. Her tests are definitely hard, but she does really want you to learn the subject and she's a really good professor. You'll learn a lot if you pay attention and go to class. Definitely take her class for micro, I didn't like her macro class as much though. But that might just be that I didn't like macro.
Unfairly critisized because everyone wants an easy A. She is tough and rigid but certainly fair. At the end of the semester she rewarded you for having do what you are supposed to do as each text was not a huge portion of her grading.
Tough professor. Attendance mandatory. Really good teacher, but had really hard tests to go with it. Definitely best econ teacher in department but certainly not an easy A. You need the book for the online homework, a lot of which is not explained in the class setting, so you self teach for the homework problems. Put in work.
She is an incredible prof. with an interactive teaching style that is great! Her tests are difficult.
A lot of work outside class to understand all the notions, but she really makes sure everyone understands the material.
She is the hardest teacher i've had all year. Sure people say that she "makes you learn the material" but that means you have to teach it all to yourself. She makes her tests impossible and always makes her midterms the day before breaks. DO NOT TAKE HER. She will be such a stressful teacher and not worth it. Everyone fails her midterms !!!
This class has literally made my first semester of college miserable. She constantly makes mistakes and does not explain things well at all. I have worked incredibly hard for each exam but her grading is so difficult and exams are so hard that I have not been able to succeed. Even my PHD tutor cant solve questions on her test. She is a gpa killer.
Although Professor Weiss is incredibly kind her class is incredibly difficult. Many of her lectures are inaccessible and her tests are not very reflective of the homework assigned or material reviewed in class. It is really hard to know how you're doing throughout the semester and won't really know till after the final. Incredible person though
Tests are so hard and she is annoying about providing material to prepare for her tests. Really makes you learn the material but grades do not reflect hard work. Do not take her if you are taking the class just for credit. She is rude.
Professor Weiss is the strongest professor I have had at Tulane. She uses multiple medias to make sure everyone in the class learns the material and takes the time to meet with you if you need extra help. While the class is certainly challenging, learning the material and succeeding is very rewarding. Highly Recommend if you want to actually learn
Overall Good Class. Hard Tests, but gives you a good curve and a lot of other assignments to offset it. Barely spent an hour on the class on non test weeks. Take if you actually want to learn econ.
Gives clear explanations and is very aware of when the class falls behind and needs extra help to understand something. I didn't find her class very difficult except when I missed classes. Practice completing the clicker questions and in-class problem sheets before tests. Took three different classes with her and would choose her again if I could.
Professor Weiss has a knack for distilling complex issues down to their essential components, and relating them clearly and carefully so that everyone is able to get a handle on them. She is kind, funny, and enthusiastic, and is capable of making even the driest subjects accessible.
Grades are mostly based on exams, but there is a slight curve. Lectures move really slowly, but only because Weiss likes to make sure that the entire class understands the content before moving on. If you read the textbook and take notes, it's a fairly easy A. Test questions are somewhat tricky though.
Definitely should take her if you're planning on majoring in economics. She explains everything extremely well, and you will actually have an in depth understanding of all the material after taking her class. She also puts in grade boosters so that it is not all dependent on tests. If you show up to class and work hard an A is very doable
One of the best professors at Tulane. She lets you choose how much percent each assignment is (within reason). Go to class, study, and get extra help when needed. She makes a 200 person lecture feel like a small class. There are plenty of assignments that help increase your grade. TESTS ARE BRUTAL. You get what you put in.
If you took Weiss for 1010 and liked her, take her again. It's the same exact format at 1010.
Weiss consistently asks her students to take on the theories and apply them to new situations. This is great for people who think they might major in Economics because they will be well-prepared to take on harder classes. Students who aren't interested in participating fully in class will struggle when the test comes. Overall, best teacher here.
Professor Weiss's class was challenging. All exams are multiple choice so they can be tough if you don't read them thoroughly. She is extremely helpful in office hours, and is willing to help anyone if they put in the effort. Class attendance is not mandatory, but you do have to answer clicker questions for a grade.
She is really passionate about what she teaches and seems to genuinely care if you are understanding or not. The tests are pretty hard but if you study your notes and read the textbook as the class goes on (not just the night before) you should be fine.
The structure for intermediate is pretty similar to that of her intro classes, except the tests are very different and much more difficult. There was never enough time to finish them and they were so. hard. Its also pretty hard to get a good grade on the APLIA hw. She doesn't do a great job of teaching the material but the book is great. 6/10
Toni Weiss' class is really hard especially if you haven't taken Econ or are not good at Econ. Wouldn't recommend, other professors are much easier and you will learn more and get a better grade.
Professor Weiss is a really great teacher. If you put in the work, and go to class it's definitely possible to get an A. If you want to leave the class feeling like you actually learned, i recommend her.
Prof. Weiss is incredibly intelligent and caring, but her class is difficult and you will definitely have to work hard. However, you will also learn a lot and she keeps the class interesting with in-class problems.
The hardest thing about Prof. Weisss class is her focus on making sure students have a deep understanding of whats happening when concepts are discussed, ad very little plug and chug work is done, like in an intro class. This deep understanding therefore leads to tough tests, but she is a great teacher so most kids do pretty well on tests.
Professor Weiss' lectures are great and really gets you to understand the topic. The only reason I would not take her class again is because exams are so hard. Showed my other friends that were taken Micro with other professors and they said they were impossible compared to the ones they took. Basically, the only way to raise your grade is doing HW
The tests are hard. Like really hard. But they are fair, and she is a great teacher. Attendance is not mandatory, but you can choose to make it a part of your grade, which essentially means free points if you can get out of bed. The homework is usually pretty easy, and you come out learning more than from any other teacher. Hard class, but worth it
Dont take this professor if you want an easy A in Econ. She is very passionate about what shes teaching but the tests are just so dam hard! Attend class for clicker points, do the my econlab(Stupid) and journal entries. They will help you breath above water if you screw up on her tests.
I have also taken ECON1010 with Professor Weiss. I can't tell how much I enjoy her lecture. She is very clear about her topics and she can explained it detailed enough to make everyone understand it. If she is not sure how many people really get her point. She will work it out and help every single student.
I took Weiss for Micro and got an A. Macro was so much harder. Tests were nearly impossible. The HWs, clicker points and journal entries can pull up your grade. She's better at micro than macro
makes the class harder than it should be. her teaching style is very weird and when you like back at your notes you don't understand what they mean. going to class is pointless except for getting clicker question points. if you don't think the way Weiss does the class will be hard
She's one of the best teachers I've ever had - very friendly and a genuinely kind person, does a great job with lectures and makes sure that everyone understands everything, lets you pick the weighting of everything in the class, and is very upfront/honest with everyone. The only downside is the MyEconLab, which is really hard and not very helpful
Toni Weiss is the best professor I have had so far at Tulane. She always uses examples that students find relatable, and she is extremely passionate about what she is teaching. She makes difficult topics easy to understand, and she gives good practice tests. 100% recommend!
Weiss was a fine professor. Her lectures were too long and she grades very hard. To anyone who just wants to take econ for the credit, DO NOT TAKE TONI WEISS. Her tests are hard and her lectures are confusing.
If you are a first semester freshman, do not take this class. Plain and simple. Incredibly difficult class due to the fact that she is not a great teacher and the tests are incredibly hard. You have to understand the material 90% to get a C on the exam. Very unnecessary class and any professor but her is better.
Prof Weiss is a caring professor. She teaches a lot through examples, and she gives free points by doing clicker questions during class. Sometimes the ways she explains concepts can be confusing, but her office hours are extremely accessible. Her tests are incredibly difficult though, especially the wording of questions and answers.
Engaging, accommodating, flexible, clearly cared about our success as students. Went beyond lecture to connect us with the material. There was such a sense of community that she fostered by pushing us all to participate, discuss with each other, and identify and work on our weaknesses. Brought out the best student in us, great environment and prof!
Tries her best to ensure students understand the concepts, but its hard to grasp her explanations for difficult concepts. Tests will be difficult, quite different from problems done in class and I highly recommend getting a tutor.
Her tests feel like a series of trick questions that test your ability to read a question more than the actual content. She is very stubborn and does not take criticism very well. Her class is very based around fairness, but few of her tests ever have a passing mean before the curve and she has weird and unless parts of her grade. Avoid if possible
Professor Weiss is a very average professor. If you understand Econ and have a solid foundation in it you will do fine, but if it's your first time in an economics class you will have difficulty. Her teaching is fine but the tests are extremely difficult and designed to trick you. Best thing is you choose how much tests are weighted + she curves.
Hard class, but not unfair. Recipe for successread the textbook, go to class, take good notes/participate, and study old midterms. She lets you choose the weighting scheme, and if you go to class and do online homework, you're golden. Her tests are multchoice and very difficult, but with preparation, you can make A's. A top-tier Tulane professor.
Dr. Weiss is a very nice person OUTSIDE of grading. She is not lenient or understanding when it comes to getting help for the class. Theres lots of hw & she is not very good at teaching the info. Clicker points used for attendance & if you get them all wrong you will get a 0 & if u get some right (eg 2/4) it is still bad, 7% off my grade for it.
Great professor, cares about her students and their well-being. Focus in class and do the work on the practice problems. My strategy: answer the question. Turn to your neighbor and explain why its the answer. Then explain why all the wrong answers are incorrect. Then explain what the question would have to be in order for each answer to be right.
Attendance is non mandatory but missed clicker points will add up. Dr. Weiss is very caring, but she will not make it easy on you. That being said, if you do all of the work w/ a bit of effort you are likely to get a good grade. You can choose what to focus on, as she lets you choose a grading scale.
Top tier TU prof. Wouldn't recommend if only fulfilling requirements-tough intro class. Annotate textbook before, participate, take notes, office hours, and practice tests. Her exams are all MC and require a deep visual understanding of the concepts. Choose your owngrading scheme. An A is very doable if you prep. Very respected and very impressive.
Toni Weiss gives good lectures but about as much positive I can say about her class. She gives tests that are mainly based on logic and your ability to understand and read the test more than the content of the class. In Macroeconomics she also assigns a lot of useless homework. She assigns literally hundreds of questions with ABC before every test.
If you put in the work you can do well in this class. Do not take if not.
had her for intro macro and micro. she is a very solid choice! gives lots of opportunities for points which will help your grade if you don't do as well on the exams. clicker points are easy grade boosters if you go to class.
1. Very useful material 2. Makes the class collaborative through group assignments 3. Brings in a ton of impactful guest speakers Pro tip: Insert all deadlines from the syllabus into your calendar. (Reminders for journal entry submissions are not given).
Prof. Weiss is fantastic. She's really approachable and is super passionate about economics which translates into her teaching. The class is very open in terms of grading, and she allows you to pick and choose what you want to be graded on.
She's an amazing lecturer, but you need to come to class having read the material. She lets you pick your own grading scheme, but most of your points have to come from the tests, which are insanely hard and have very few questions. Don't take her if you're not planning on majoring in something related to Econ. You won't pass if you slack.
You will fail if you don't read the textbook. She isn't going to teach any information, you will learn it through the textbook and use the entire class as like a practice applying what you know.
Some people may be annoyed by this professor but I would seriously not listen to anyone that doesn't appreciate this professor. She lets you change the weight of portions of class, so much so that you could actually never show to class and pass. Gives a lot of extra credit and so many aspects of points that you should not worry about ever failing.
I took Weiss for Micro and at first I liked her, but that changed quickly after a couple of classes. The way she teaches the curriculum does not align with the homeworks or the textbook, she rants about having stains on your soul, and she scheduled our second midterm exam this year on the day of the election. Would not recommend.
She's a great lecturer, though at times she's confusing. Reading the textbook before class, taking diligent notes, and taking advantage of all available resources is necessary. The tests can be tricky because she words her questions in a very specific way; concept-oriented questions mostly. She lets you choose your own weighting which is a godsend.
Great economist and has the teaching down to a science but if you aren't already good at Econ/math, don't bother. Cares that you have every detail down and isn't all that nice during office hours which make getting help suck. Her lectures are engaging but don't prepare you for clicker Qs or test so be prepared to study like mad to pass.
I'm surprised by the other ratings--this class is super easy and she lets you choose your grading scheme so you don't have to do the HW. She's a good lecturer--I didn't even buy the textbook and I got As on all the tests. Biggest downside is hoards of B School freshmen.
You get to make your grading scheme but if you don't want to pay for access to the homework, your grade is essentially 60% determined by 3 exams. Exams are really hard and the clicker points in class can be kind of tedious. Attendance and a lot of studying are definitely necessary if you aren't already familiar with economics. Wouldn't take again.
Prof Weiss' Microeconomics class was by far the most engaging large lecture class I had this semester, although I still could be quite bored/confused at times. Her class wasn't easy by any means, but I do feel like I've learned a lot. Definitely a solid choice of professor if you want a challenge but good education.
Intermediate micro is a challenging course. Professor Weiss tries to make it as easy as possible and is always there for her students. If you put in the work, she will help you. Anyone rating her badly most likely is just lazy and did not want to put in work because she's amazing. If you have to take this class, take her.
It was hard to stay focused in online lectures. My biggest issue with the class is that there's so much work. We had weekly discussion sessions, discussion assignments, asynchronous work, and online homework. It helps to balance out your exam grades though.
v knowledgable, but comes across as condescending/passive aggressive at times. there's a lot of assigned work and lectures are boring. if you aren't already good at econ, you'll have a difficult time understanding topics as quickly as others. sitting in this very class i realized i didn't want to major in business anymore, if that says anything.
Weiss really cares that you learn the minutia of econ so if thats not something you are interested in, take another prof. Tests are tough and very specific. Weiss is accessible outside class but can be condescending and rude in and outside of the classroom. Not a terribly hard class but very conceptual and a lot of work for an intro level class.
Her lectures are so confusing and are not taught well. I went to every single class, read the book, did well on the clicker questions, and still was completely lost on the tests. Unless you are good at econ, good luck.
Dr Weiss has a great style of teaching. Must put in the work and take notes from the tb before the lecture but you learn a lot. Normally not a lot of reading but lectures dont cover the tb material but instead build off of it. Really helpful practice tests for the midterms. HW clicker questions and discussion sessions are grade boosters. Take her!
Professor Weiss's class is a typical welcome to college class. The class is super individualized - you get to choose your own grading scheme. Both micro and macro are a lot of information, so if you put in the time and effort the class should be an easy A. That being said, its also easy to get behind. Toni can be kinda condescending sometimes too.
Professor Weiss is an amazing economics professor. I did very well in this class because I did the readings before class. Her lectures are mostly clicker questions and then discussing the answers afterward. This style of lecturing really only helps if you do the readings before. I am taking her again for macro econ because of her micro class.
The tests are brutal. But you can choose how you weight your grade. Weight your grade with the test grades as the minimum and everything else as the maximum. Toni Weiss genuinely cares and is a pretty good teacher who genuinely cares. I had macro and micro with her, and while I'm not amazing at econ, she is the teacher you want. LOW IN HOMEWORK
She is hard but she is a great teacher who is always willing to help students. She gives lots of opportunities for other assignments besides tests to help improve your grade.
I liked prof Weiss when I learned how to take her class. Read the textbook to prepare yourself for in-class questions for credit. Her lectures help clarify the textbook and give you a sense of how she wants you to understand the concepts. Tests are difficult but similar to her in-class questions and the practice midterms she posts.
She is a very good professor who challenges students by asking questions in class for credit. You need to go to class in order to get a participation grade, but the course content isn't terrible and her lectures aren't too boring. Would recommend for intro to Macro and Micro.
Does not teach concepts in a way that helps students actually understand economic concepts. She mainly tries to just reiterate the textbook but does not elaborate or explain what was covered. Also the some of the questions on her tests are very poorly written. One plus is that she gives out several practice midterms that help with the real one.
Her tests were really hard. If you skip class you will not pass and she lets you change your grade weight but it doesn't change much.
I took Weiss for micro and macro and it's the content that made the class hard, not her. If you pay attention in class and read the textbook you'll be fine. She is very available and great at explaining confusing concepts. You choose your grading scale which really helped. Low reviews are definitely students that don't put in work and expect an A.
Professor Weiss is wonderful. For this class, she teaches the content so well, but you still need to read the textbook! You will either love or hate clicker questions, but they are easy points if you read! She is super friendly, especially when you are asking her questions or needing help. If you want to stay on her good side, come to class!
She teaches well but is not understanding. IGNORED TWO of my emails the week before finals, resulting in lost attendance points for a mandatory commitment with school and did not upload class recordings for the days I missed for me to watch before the final. So I missed two days worth of material before the final and she did not care.
Very good at explaining complicated concepts in a way that makes sense, which made a challenging course so much less stressful. Does low-stakes clicker questions every class to quiz your knowledge. Lets you set your own grade weighting so it's not too hard to get a good grade if you put the work in.
Weiss is a good choice. I got Cs on the midterms so I thought I would end with a terrible grade, but she lets you control the weighting of each category, so I ended with an A-. Not great at teaching, just does quizzes in class so you have to go. She's a great person though, makes class fun. Gives old tests as practice. I am glad I had her.
Professor Weiss is such a great Professor, but this class is hard. She is always willing to work with you if you need help, and she only wants you to succeed. She teaches it from the conceptual point of view rather than calculation heavy. This can often be confusing, so be prepped to do work outside the class if you want to understand it fully.
Learned a lot in this class but the tests are really difficult and Weiss can be condescending, especially one on one. Take her if you want to learn econ and can put in the work on textbook readings, online homework, and going to class ( you actually have to pay attention to do well).
Professor Weiss is nice and explains complex material in a comprehensive way, but her tests are nothing like the clicker questions and will crush your spirit and dreams.
This class is difficult if you have no economics background but Professor Weiss is very knowledgeable about the subject. She lets you pick your weights for the course which is nice. Definitely go to class and answer the clicker questions. Make sure to go to office hours and listen to her advice when taking practice exams.
If you took Professor Weiss for ECON 1010 definitely take her for ECON 1020 it is so much easier and her grading criteria are the same for both courses. Make sure to go to all her lectures and to answer the clicker questions. Like micro, you get to pick your weights for this course which is nice. Listen to her advice for test-taking. Take Toni!
Professor Weiss was great! She allows you to choose your grading scale. Homeworks are for completion. Exams are difficult but she gives many practice tests and a lot of partial credit. Her lectures can be confusing if you have not yet read the chapter but she gives a lot of real world examples and practice problems. Highly recommend taking her.
You can tell she really cares about the success of her students. It seems like she tries to sell herself as the "cool professor", but then she'll fail half the class on a midterm. She's not as accessible as she says she is, her review sessions are mid at best. Not the worst professor I've ever had but the other Econ teachers seem much easier.
Lets be real, your here to see if you can kinda BS the course and get an A. As far as her intermediate classes go, not a shot. Her exams are soul crushing, if you do not study the right way for about a week you will most likely get a C or below. However my highest grade on an exam was a B- and I got a B in the class. If you show you care ur good.
Professor Weiss cares a lot about participation and attendance. She takes roll before every class and will call students out to participate. If you're comfortable with that, you'll learn a ton. She is an excellent lecturer and explains the material clearly. You can choose your own grading scheme to suit your learning style, too.
Professor Weiss managed to turn such a boring subject into a fun class. Rather than working with math equations, she uses graphs and explains them very well. Highly recommend taking a class with professor Weiss
Weiss is a super fair professor. Her lectures are important but also laid back. She lets you pick how your grade is weighted which makes the class fair for everyone. If you don't do well on tests like me, there are plenty of ways to raise your grade in other ways. One of the classes I've had to work hardest in by far but worth it.
Excellent micro teacher. Her lectures are a lot different than other classes, but in a good way. Everyday we do polling clicker questions through turning point. We'll do a question then she will talk about it in detail. This really helps sink in the concepts. This is what most of the class looks like. We also get to choose our own weightings.
Just watch the videos, go to class, and study. She's the sweetest person ever, and if you want an A, it's super feasible. Just put in the effort.
Take Toni Weiss, she's a GOAT. She definitely has a unique grading style, and uses clicker questions quite a lot, but if you can wrap your head around how helpful it is, you will learn so quickly. She's super kind, and my favorite part is that she lets you choose your own grade weight scale. Take notes by hand, and listen to what she's saying!
I love Toni so much. I learned a lot in this class because I had a good study group and I did the clicker questions. I wouldn't take this class if you aren't willing to put in a little effort, but Toni makes you realize the material is pretty simple once you put a little thought into it, which makes the class easier.
Weiss is meh but u have to work HARD in this class to do decently. Lecture halls can be hard to focus in esp. when ur w friends but if u focus in class and make sure u understand the concepts u should be fine. Tests were ridiculous so I won't take her again but if u have no other option ur fine. She lets u choose ur grade weighting which is nice.
She does not care about her students and has a condescending attitude. She is not flexible.
Do not take Prof. Weiss unless you are ready to cry over every test and have your soul crushed by her questions. Not only are her tests next to impossible, but she is also condescending when you finally muster the courage to approach her with a question. Tulane is lucky I'm not sending them my therapy bill after taking Prof. Weiss.
Professor Weiss is a super friendly and engaging teacher. She is a big fan of group work and tries her best to make lectures interesting and interactive. Her tests are a bit difficult, but she provides several resources to study for them. She also lets you choose your own grade weighting which is unique. 10/10 would recommend for Intermediate Micro
I took Toni Weiss for micro and her tests were hard but doable. Her MACRO class is completely different. She tests you on things she never taught or told you to study, so there is no way to do well on the tests. She also does not help in class when you ask questions and her teaching style is very messy and confusing. Do not recommend.
Professor Weiss is a really nice teacher and lets you choose your grade weighting. The only thing I would say is her tests can be a bit difficult and often have questions that have never been discussed in class.
Great teacher easy grader highly recommend for macro
Ability to weigh your own grade so tests can be worth 10% each. may sound amazing until the class averages are no higher than 70% and you have to get 100%s in everything else to save your grade. Feel confident going into every test just to get the biggest stomp on my ego every time
She is very caring, and wants her students to understand the material and succeed in the class. The thing though, is that she lets you choose your own course weighting. You are allowed to make exams only 10% of your grade which is amazing, but her exams are very difficult and the class average is always below a C, sometimes even an F.
She is a nice and caring teacher but does not do a good job at teaching her class. Her tests are impossible and majority of people fail them. You do get a choice to weight them less which is nice but it is still not worth taking her class. lots of homework as well.
Toni has the potential to be a good professor but fails with her attitude. She is condescending and claims she wants students to success when in reality, her tests are made to confuse you and you will leave the class more confused than when you came in.I'm forced to learn the bulk of the material on my own and I find her class style unproductive.
Have to work hard to get good grade, but professor really cares.
Toni Weiss is a nice and funny human being but not a good teacher. She is very passive when you ask her a question and not very helpful. Her tests did not reflect the work taught in class. Beware.
Super condescending, unhelpful professor. Lectures create more confusion amongst students and tests are purposefully made to trick you with material never covered in class. You can try to ask questions in person but she'll make you feel stupid and won't clearly answer your questions. Also so much busy work that doesn't help with any content.
never again.
An amazing teacher, but you won't succeed unless you put in the effort. Go to class, read the textbook, watch the videos. She will clarify the material for you during lectures. Her tests can be tricky; there wasn't proper test prep this semester, but each test teaches for the next. She is so caring, and really wants you to learn and succeed.
She is a great professor and she does want the best for you. Its overall a good class. I would just say that the tests are very hard and she does not always curve them (even when the average was a D). She lets you choose the weights for grading so sets the tests as low as possible.
Horrible teacher. Questions make no sense. Beach of a grader
great prof
Weiss is an amazing teacher but be ready to study hard & put in a lot of work if you want to make a good grade in intermediate micro. She lets you choose your own weighting system which allows for a grade cushion for those willing to pay for homework access. Show up to class, take good notes, and go the the SI sessions and you'll be fine!
Professor Weiss is a good professor, but in the moment that the exam comes, you better be ready because the test is imposible.
She is sarcastic and rude. There are in class points so attendance is pretty much mandatory unless you can get someone to send you the answers. The one good thing is that there are a lot of busy work assignments which helped my grade and made up for how hard the tests were. She does not round, curve, or offer extra credit. DO NOT TAKE HER!!
She's honestly fine, lets you choose your grade distribution so you can weigh the first test lower than homework. The lectures are really helpful for understanding content and she's really thorough so I would go to class. Test questions reflect content learned in class except with an added layer of tricky wording which is annoying.
Professor Weiss is great! She is very thoughtful in her lectures and will answer any questions you have. She also lets you choose your grade weighting which helps you with the overall grade.
Do not take Toni Weiss. The only good thing about this class was that she lets you weight your tests and assignments on your own, but still, that didn't help too much. SHe has attendance questions that you can only answer if you're in class so if someone can't send you them you're screwed for that day. Such an annoying class, DONT TAKE.
Not the worst but not the best either. She's very frustrating because her tests can feel like they're designed to trick you with the wording and she assumes you're not trying when you ask for help. Very nice with grade weighting though--I was able to make the first test only 10%
She's not the worst, but definitely not the best. She isn't very receptive to student feedback, and has a pretty condescending attitude. The tests are usually harder than the in-class material. She does let you weight your own grade to a certain extent, which is nice. Not looking forward to having her next semester. Overall an okay teacher.
You can't take away the fact that Professor Weiss knows how to teach. She is incredibly smart. She also lets you weight your own grade which is life saving. Yet she is often in a really bad mood and can be extremely rude to students. She creates tests that try and make you fail. Tests are hard even with tons of studying. Try to avoid at all costs.
Depending on how well you do on the first of the three tests, which are unreasonably difficult, try not to do news analysis. They take forever and are annoying if you have other courses with busy work. Although I like that I can customize the course, she's mid mid mid mid mid, and pretty at times
A lot of flexibility in how your grade is calculated. Very approachable and wants you to succeed.
She is passive-aggressive. Her tests are designed to be VERY hard. I took her class and all my friends had a different professor they all had online tests with the option of a cheat sheet and had their tests curved. All of her exams are in person, no cheat sheet, and she does not curve or offer extra credit. Do anything to not take her.
Intermediate Micro is a very hard class, and Toni doesn't necessarily make it easier. She's a nice and very knowledgable professor, but be prepared for the tests to be harder than the in or out of class work. She allows you to weight the class. Graded on online homework, 3 exams, and attendance. She's not the worst option, but not the best.
Great Prof. if you want to learn economics. Not necessarily hard if you pay attention and understand the materials. Rarely assigns homework and there are no quizzes. Two mid-term, which are pretty similar to the practice tests she posts and you get to weight your own grades. Overall very interesting and straightforward lectures.
Weiss is awesome for IntMicro. It's a really hard class in general, but she gives you a lot of opportunities to earn a decent grade and makes the class so engaging and not dry at all. 2 exams + a cumulative final, but you can weight your grade pretty heavily on hw which is just completion. Definitely do the extra credit project for exam 2
Though the subject itself is difficult, Weiss's lectures are clear and well-paced. She expects you to have read the textbook lesson prior to class but I found that method really helpful. There are two pretty tough midterms but she provides a good amount of study material as well as hosting review sessions. She also lets you weigh your own grades.
Weiss was great! This was a hard class but her lectures and examples are so engaging and made things a lot easier to understand, and she answers questions really well. Because you can weight your own grade, getting an A or a good grade isn't too tough if you can put in the work. Would take the class with friends if you can, makes it easier to study
Weiss is a very good professor. The format of her class was readings and videos to be done before class, then lectures to reinforce what was learned in the readings and videos. This was a good way to help us learn. The tests are pretty consistent with what is taught. Little to no surprises on those. She's pretty engaging in lecture.
Only teaches concepts, not very clear guidance about how to answer test questions. Is not good at making tests, questions don't make sense, lots of unknowns. Seriously, our final test was formatted so oddly and the instructions/questions made NO SENSE
the nice thing is that you can make your tests worth the least which means you have to go to every class to get clicker points. Test, especially the final exam, are harder than class. You don't get a study guide for tests or learn anything in chapters. For homework, there are only readings that you have like lots of time to submit.
I've taken Professor Weiss for three classes while at Tulane, and Intermediate Micro is definitely her weakest. CONFUSING tests. Never what we learn/discuss in class. However, she's a wonderful professor, very understanding, and choosing your own grade weights is always a blessing. Just think twice about choosing her for an intermediate class.
If you really take the time to do the readings and pay attention during lectures this class will be quite straightforward. It is clear what you need to do to succeed. Tests require deep understanding of the content, so be ready to study and review beyond the textbook. Lectures are interesting and Dr. Weiss is funny, available, and understanding.
I was disappointed by professor Weiss. Many love her but I found her lectures extremely boring, and her tests very difficult. The inclusion of clicker points, and being able to change your grade weighting helps, but does not fully make up for her tricky tests. I also missed a B- by .02% and she refused to round up.
The GOAT. Deserves the world. If you don't like her you simply can't hang.
I do not like her teaching style. Makes us do problems for points that count as attendance and then talks about them for way too long. She walks around the room and yells and singles people out if they are not paying attention. We barely learn anything in class and her tests are very difficult. Lots of prep work for class as well
I don't like her. tests were impossible and lectures were mandatory and insanely boring. Did not really care about students and honestly was not even a good teacher for the amount of work she gave. I would stay away and take Park or anyone else who's teaching
do not take weiss, awful lectures and even harder tests.
Prof Weiss is my favorite prof at Tulane. Gives tough tests but is so clear and thoughtful with the course and the lectures that the course is easy to follow no matter the material. While the topic is difficult, she does her best to explain clearly. Lots of reading and homework but worth it because you really understand the material. Take Weiss!
After taking Toni Weiss for a semester I know that this is the worst TEACHER I have ever had in my life. I learned nothing from classes, because rather than teaching she flies through practice problems in class and hopes that her students are able to learn everything properly from a book. Also communicating with her was borderline impossible.
Very difficult grader. A lot of the questions posed on exams/quizzes are traps
you choose your own grading so it makes it pretty easy. her tests are basically the same as the practice tests. her lectures are boring and you honestly never have to go because you'll learn everything for her online resources.
Professor Weiss explains the concepts in the class well. Choosing your grading systems helps a lot in this course. But, the TA is much more helpful and answers mostly all of the emails directed towards the professor. Final exam grades were never posted even upon request. If you go to class and pay attention the exams should be easy.
Professor Weiss' class is no walk in the park, but if you put in the work, you'll learn a lot. Her tests are challenging but fair - just make sure to read the textbook and engage with the lectures. Using unstuckstudy ai and other study tools can really help you prepare.
Econ isn't really my thing but prof weiss is a nice person. She tries to help her students adjust to college academics and makes the concepts relatable. I probably could have gotten a better grade if I put a few more hours into studying.
The lectures are long and boring and if you miss one due to sickness or other things, it is hard to catch up. Also her tests are very hard and she makes us take notes on paper
Listen, this class involves reading and outside work. But if you do it, the material becomes super clear. She explains the concepts in depth in class, so once you understand them, it's easy to get an A. Get ready to put in work, but it will 100% pay off.
Doesn't explain things at all. Lectures are homework videos and wastes the whole class on clicker questions and doesn't answer student questions clearly. Exam questions are significantly more confusing than all practice questions and gives no guidance about what material will be on the exams.
She is a really nice professor and easy to access. However, the way she lectures is quite confusing and is very different from what is on the tests. The practice exams she sends out are also nothing like the actual exam. Nice woman but not a great teacher.
Toni Weiss is such a nice lady and a really good teacher. Her classes and homework are very thoughtfully planned out and very informative. She assigns a lot of homework, but not impossible. However, her tests are THE HARDEST TESTS IVE EVER TAKEN IN MY ENTIRE LIFE!!!! Her tests actually where so upsetting and questions where unlike anything ever.
Horrible professor. Makes us stand at 9:30 in the morning and and yells at us. Does not let us sit down to "wake us up". Tests are incredibly hard and she provides no study material besides lectures that you can never understand. Will call you out in front of everyone, do not take will have a better time taking literally anyone else
Prof Weiss is.... nice but not a favorite. All work should be done before class, with assigned videos and readings. TESTS ARE SO HARD. Like very hard. Class is just lectures going over the information you are supposed to know from videos and textbooks. She lets you change how you are graded which is nice.
Super nice lady, and honestly seems to like her job and is passionate. However, you should believe people when they say her exams are not like the practice ones. I took that with a grain of salt, and regret it heavily to this day. Coming from someone that studies for exams weeks in advance, these tests were no joke. Doesnt touch, relies on vids.
Prof. Weiss is no joke. Hard exams but really effective teacher (MUST watch her preparing for class videos). She gives ~ 5 prac. midterms for each midterm (there are 2) which are super helpful. Reviews are mixed bc her class is tough, but she's so honestly worth taking. If you put in the time you will do great. Also lets you weight your own grade.
In order to do well in the class you do have to put in effort. But if you put in the effort, you will do well. She truly cares about the students learning the material and although it may seem like you have to try harder, it is because she wants us to genuinely learn the it.
Take this class if you want to learn. I learned so much. Lots of work outside class but review it in the next class. Approachable and cares for her students. Study by reviewing her previous tests and practice answering them on your own. HW is videos + textbook. The SI is helpful tool to learn.
She doesn't actually teach but just expects her students to know everything. Her practice midterms are nothing like the tests. The tests contain many topics that are not talked about in class. I studied very hard and could never get an A on one of her tests. Weighting your grade doesn't change much because there are minimums for every test.
Toughest Econ professors at Tulane, but she genuinely seems to care for her students. If you find Econ challenging, consider a different professor. I wouldn't recommend her if you're looking for an easy class and loves involving students in the lesson. I remember one time, she had us walk around the room because the class lacked energy lol
Nice lady clearly cares about her students. Did I do absolutely everything I can to succeed in this class, no. But I have studied for more in this class as a sophomore than any of the 3010s I am taking, this is my hardest class, which is a little ridiculous for a 1010. Maybe I am just bad at micro, but this is 100p not an easy class.
Extremely snarky and expects an excessive amount of participation and attention in an 120 person lecture.
she will make the whole class sit there & wait for someone to ask a question. tried to ask her for help & was completely unhelpful. only gives you about 10 seconds or less to answer clicker questions. everyone I talked to was completely confused. NO study guides or cheat sheets for tests. painful to hear her speak. take anyone else but her.
Take Toni if you really want to learn! She challenges her students while also remaining fair. Not an easy class by any means but not impossible like some people make it out to be. I got an A- in Macro and an A in Micro with her.
Professor Weiss makes it very easy to succeed in her class with her grading policy and her curves.
The class is a lot more involved than other lectures. If she doesn't feel people are participating she will wait for questions or even make a 100-person lecture hall stand up. Overall the class was easy and she cares a lot for the students, the tests were similar and different to the test, but being able to pick your grading % categories helps tons
rlly good teacher, you just have to watch the videos she assigns. If you dont watch the videos you wont do well. Just watch them lol
This teacher barely actually teaches her class and leaves all the learning for homework and SI sessions. Only goes through a few questions during a 75 minute class period, cold calls, and is regularly rude to students who are confused instead of helping. Take any other teacher for Econ1010.
helps you to learn content but tests very difficult and meant to trick you. she cares about what she is teaching but most work done outside class
This class was absolutely too hard for INTRO level. Averages were low C's and D's, which is a reflection of the tests, not the students. I could recite the whole chapter by heart and still not know some midterm questions. It's a good class, but the tests feel like they should be intermediate level. Take a different prof with REASONABLE tests.
just do not take toni weiss
This class is way too hard for an intro level micro course. It takes the SI like 15 minutes to do each question from past exams which is a reflection of the degree of difficulty the exams are. Professors style of "teaching" is doing top hat questions all class, cold calling people to ask questions and explain the answers. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!
This course is essentially self-taught. All learning is expected to be done through time consuming homework readings and videos, and she wastes class time on confusing clicker questions which she refuses to explain. She refuses to acknowledge when her teaching methods don't work and blames students for not knowing the material. Exams are impossible
go to office hours and SI sessions youll be fine
Her lectures are very bland, if you don't understand the reading from the night before you will not understand what is happening. Tests were extremely difficult, only good thing is you could choose how much each thing weighed in the class.
This teacher was horrible. She is a smart woman, but just refuses to teach in class. You basically need to teach yourself the entire curriculum and the exams were not easy. They were all multiple-choice trick questions. If you take her class, be prepared to cry!!!!!!!
Not necessarily a bad professor, but her attitude and overall snarkiness makes it very hard to enjoy her class.
Lectures are super engaging and she genuinely cares about the content/her students. Generous curve and lets you choose test/homework weighting, making it easy to do well. Good amount of homework but it isn't hard and genuinely teaches you the course material. I took AP Econ which helped but if you put in the work you will be fine in this class.
very hard grader but you can tell she loves her job and if u do the readings and videos it's not terrible
Chat gpt wont save you. Procrastinate? You will struggle. Tests are hard unless you put in the practice(lots of resources). 25% max on participation(easy A if you show up). Dont treat this as an easy class especially if youve never done econ. She challenges you to really learn.
Professor Weiss definitely cared a lot about students doing well, yet her tests were extremely difficult compared to other sections of micro. If you are not naturally super good at micro, be prepared to struggle in this class.
I LOVE HER. She is hard, but she is so smart and sweet. You must do the homework thoroughly and go to class to do well. Go to office hours, use SI sessions, and work hard. You can get an A if you put in the time and effort.
Prof. Weiss is a great teacher. You'll thoroughly understand what's going on with the course material by the time you've finished the course. Somehow, this doesn't mean her exams are easy. It's the opposite—I've never had a tougher time with an exam, including in STEM courses. She's very clearly passionate though.
Lectures long and sometimes will be confusing, graphs are tough, lots of hw(readings), tests are a big deal study; practice tests extremely helpful. Might not seem like it at first but she is a great teacher in my opinion. She goes very slow. Looking back I felt I was too negative at the beginning. Also very nice person. I recommend for micro.
So this class was actual hell. If you know you can get an easier professor do that. If you do have Professor Weiss get ready to STUDY. She is honestly an amazing teacher her classes are thorough and you'll learn so much but the test are hell. I would study for weeks and still get average grades so just beware. It's great if you like learning!
Class could be pretty confusing but she gave a lot of practice tests for the midterms. If you study a lot and understand the practice tests + hw she gave you'll probably do well. Also have the option to make attendence 1/4 of your grade which is nice, should definitely be going to class anyways.
Professor Weiss is an amazing teacher. Her lectures are clear and she is always happy to explain anything you are confused about. Even though this is a big class, she makes such an effort to make her lectures engaging. There is a decent amount of homework but if you actually do it and pay attention in class it is not hard to get an A.
