She's a great teacher. The class is not easy so don't take it if your a slacker. My writing has improved so much because of her. She has an excellent grasp on the english language and you will learn a lot from her if your willing to put in some effort into the class.

she is an extremely hard teacher. at least an hour of hw a night. if you dont like doing a lot of work dont take her class. she is very demanding and an exceptionally hard grader. theres just so much work she wants you to do for her. she also kicks a lot of people out for not attending class

I hate english but this class keeps me interested and its quite easy.

WOW, I must say I'm shocked with all the bad comments left for Prof. Payne. I'm in her English 101 class now and she's great! I don't find her to be a hard grader at all, but she does expect you to work. I think that's logical and that the people who complain about the work didn't make a good transition from HS to college yet.

This class will probably be one of the hardest at NCC. But for those who are diligent and driven, Prof. Payne will inspire you in more ways than you thought. Its a challenging experience but very enlightening. Great Teacher.

i understand the complaints left about professor payne but her lcass most deffintely taught me a lot about writting. she expects you to work and is harsh but you will benefit from her class forever. she also can be very understanding and kind SPEAK UP ... plus on the bright side any class you take after will be so easy

If you are a dedicated student this class will benefit you amazingly. However, if you think English is a subject to be taken lightly you may find yourself scratching your head. Professor Payne is tough (but fair) for a reason, she is a teacher with a mission: she wants her students to learn--and they do. _Anyone_ could pass this class and enjoy it!

not easy, but she is a nice person. gives A LOT of work, about a paper due every two weeks, but if ask for help - she will do all she can to help you.

I LOVED HER! Eventhough she is very strick with grading you learn A LOT from it! It you are a common NCC Student that just dont care to learn just want an easy A dont take this class. But if you want something beyond your grade take this class!

very nice teacher, i think some people on here exaggerated, she is a tough grader but if you try your best she is fair, overall i enjoyed the class even if it was very time consuming when your a full time student who works

very nice professor. alittle weird at first with her envriomentalism but eventually students get into it.

she's a very nice person. but u have to work alot in her class. she cares alot for her students, but doesnt always cut slack. do work at least a week before handing it in, check it like 5 times :) very harsh grader so either work hard or drop the class

I enjoyed english going into this class she has kinda ruined that 4 me. THERE IS AN EXTREME AMOUNT OF WORK and there are not long stories to write your papers on you cant write 5 pages on a 10 page story it is very difficult keep that in mind i am very overwhelmed and have plotted to kill her (lol jk) i do recommend taking eng 102 with a dif prof

where do i start? Well professor payne is a nice lady but she gives too much work. you have to write long essays 5-7 pages and the topics are almost always very boring. I am strugling in her class at the very moment. Very tough. Only take it if u r very good at literature if not, then dont. But she is a nice lady

Professor Payne is a very nice lady and she is always willing to help. ONLY take this class if you are willing to work hard because she gives a lot of work and 3 papers to write with revisions. I got an A in this class but it was a lot of work.

You will learn a lot but you have to do a lot of work. You work like a dog, but if you can get through it then you come out a better student. Like a challenge? Take her class. She is very helpful and a great lady. She prepares you for hardcore classes. I wouldn't recommend her for the people who want an easy class, keep looking.

Well, at first I thought she may be a horrible professor, because she looked tough. And she is, but she is definitely one of the greatest professor's you can have if you want to learn. She requires attendance and textbooks and has a no nonsense attitude. But I was surprised, she forces people to get to know each other and doesn't forget your face.

Great teacher with a fun personality. her "tree huger" persona can be dull to some. i got an 'A', for all those who say she never gives one. homework require minimal reading with an intelligent response. all in all she'll match how much you care. if you really care you'll do well if you don't care about her/the class, she wont care about your grade

I still believe to this day that Dr. Payne's class was the best class I have ever taken. Though she is a tough grader, I still managed an A with hard work and determination. Because of her class, writing papers are now a breeze for me. She is a wonderful person, both as a professor and as an individual. If you are looking to learn, take her class.

she is a great teacher but i would only recommend taking her class if you are planning on majoring in English or really really like a challenge, if you are looking for an easy class don't take hers because it's not easy and she is a very tough grader

FAVORITE. PROFESSOR. EVER. Wow, is that class a challenge. Be prepared to work A LOT but it is so rewarding. She is available to help and wants you to do well. But you MUST show up. I like the Bozo stamp; no one in college should be making those errors. This was my hardest class ever but it changed my life and those of my classmates.

I love having Professor Payne as an instructor. She is willing to help you along her class all you have to do is show you care. I think majority of the comments on here are dramatic. What did you expect from college? Easiness? She's a great professor

People who say Tonia is a bad professor are typical lazy Nassau Students. She is much also much less harsh with homework after the first month of classes. Just do the homework properly and the essays write themselves.This lady gave me a job recommendation. Do the work, and you'll later appreciate what she has done for you.

Dr. Payne is the best female English professor I have had at Nassau (and I've had a few). She has a genuine love for the subjects she teaches, and our class discussions in Mystery Fiction were awesome. She expects people to participate, but is understanding if you're not doing well and tries to help you do the best you can. Definitely recommend!

I felt like she didn't give me the type of grade I deserved. The way how she expects you to write an essay is a little harder than a regular essay, and she is not flexible as oppose to what she wants. Overall I enjoyed her class, and the reading selection she picks, and she will expect you to read all books she assigns, it may be like 6-7.

She's my favorite teacher this semester. She is extremely tough but it's only to prepare us. Students hate her because she doesn't settle for anything less than what she wants, which is understandable. She is very nice and helps us out however she can. She's a great teacher but the work is very difficult.

Nice lady who obviously loves her job & tries her best 4 students but her work load ruins the class. If u are a busy person/average reader, stay away. Her class is more for an enthusiast than a regular student. If you aren't used to reading 100+ pages a night, this class will get old super fast. Esp when you add in those annoying reading responses.

Prepare to do quite a bit of reading in Professor Payne's course. You're expected to read 80+ pages sometimes and write a response to what you've read. That being said it's an interesting class if you're trying to get a better idea of understanding what you're reading. Expect to do group discussions everyday also.

She is absolutely brilliant! Be prepared to work but you get back so much more. She is fair, passionate and knowledgeable.

Those who wrote bad comments about Payne is just mad because they didn't put the effort needed into her class. Yes her class is a lot of work but that's only because she is preparing us for bigger and better things. Anyone can take a professor who hands out A's like its their job, however she dedicates herself into the students put the effort.

Prof Payne is a great professor, but if you're taking more than 2 classes, do not, I repeat DO NOT take any of her classes. She gives you really good readings, but at one point the reading will become a burden because you will essays, revisions, and notes from those readings due. I'm usually on top of all my classes, but this was awful.

Dr Payne is an amazing teacher. I truly learned in her class and felt that i got a lot out of it. This class is no joke though, you must go to class and read all of the material to get a good grade. If you put the work in she will reward you with the grades you deserve. She has been one of the best teachers I've ever had at NCC.

One of the best professors. Tough for sure. Also a whole lot of reading, papers, and homework. BUT she wants to make you a better writer and you will become one at the end of her class. If your lazy or dont like doing work.. stay away. Im not a great writer and got a good grade while juggling this class with many others as well as work.

If you are looking to just get through ENG 102 for the credits, then she may not be the best choice. But if you really want to learn, she's more than proficient to teach you. She does require all students to be serious, that means making sure you have all your work in on time, and have your books with you for class. She's good. If you're serious.

She is a very talented professional and teacher, this translates into doing lots of reading, writing, and *rewriting*. If you're not an experienced writer of thesis papers, writing for her is a challenge. Whether its a good or bad one is if you have time to read and write in your schedule. She'll grill ya, but true, honest and supportive always
