Will spend extra time outside of class until you understand. His office door is always open. He is very dedicated to his profession.
This guy is one of the coolest teachers that I've ever had. He speaks clearly and teaches very well. He will cover and recover a topic until everyone completely understands it.
This is the best teacher I've ever had. Going back to PS in summer just to get him again. Explains everything well, will spend every minute devoted to getting everyone to understand, and much overtime. Office hours before every class, and sometimes weekends. Posts notes online for every lecture.
One of the if not the BEST teachers I have ever had. Take any and all classes you can from him.
An awesome teacher. Very exicted about teaching.
This is the best teacher i have ever had. He took extra time to help me and make sure i understood the material. He teaching quickly but doesnt let anyone who wants to keep up fall behind.
I had him for Precal. Great teacher and has a great attitude that makes it a good learning environment. Hope to get him again during my long math series.
These ratings overlook what's important to a -real- student (ie one that isn't simlpy seeking the degree). Crossland's style is clear and concise but far too easy (yes, too easy). With something like mathematics, you need a challenge to learn the material and Crossland doesn't offer it. He's incredibly friendly and energetic. I really rate 4.5/5
Had him for Calc I. And he's still helping me even though I'm not in his class anymore
He is extremely helpful and enthusiastic through out his lectures. Also he uses examples to help explain problems, which really helped me remember how to do the problems when it was time for the test.
HE is a great teacher wish i could get him again.
learned a lot more than math from this gorgeous professor...
Tony is alot of fun and even a bit of a dweeb which is pretty cool. Very easy going and will clarify if the math is getting difficult.
Everything was fine. His notes are thorough and helpful.
My favoite teacher of all-time!
Math clicked for me when I was in his class. A great teacher and a nice person to talk to. Make sure to ask him for extra help if you need it!
Tony Crossland is awesome. He is so much fun and nerds it up sometimes in class. I will request him again and again. He also makes me sweat sometimes when we make eye contact.
He is the best teacher you will ever get. His ability to explain and relate math is unparalleled by any teacher I have encountered at Pell or UTK. If you need extra help, he will go far beyond what is required of him just to see you succeed. I wish he taught other teachers how to teach.
Mr. Crossland is a knowledgeable teacher who is fairly approachable. He does not use classtime as efficiently as some professors though. Too many tests and quizzes detract from actual learning time.
Tony Crossland is a magnificent teacher! He is extremely knowledgeable in his subject and loves to help students succeed. His teaching methods are easy to understand and he encourages questions. Also his teaching style makes it really easy to take notes. If you decide to take this professor you will learn a lot and have a great time doing it.
He is by far one of the best professors I have ever had. He completely knows his material, he's energetic, his notes are so clean & well-organized, & he is always more than willing to help in any way that he can. I wish he could teach all of my math classes.
He was not very thorough w/examples. We get baby examples in class and the quizzes and tests are a lot more difficult.
Fantastic teacher, fervent about what he does and related the material well to me. Coming from a kid that is not so gifted at math, this guy was a godsend. Extremely highly recommended.
Tony is an amazing teacher that has a Chrystal clear teaching style. He is always willing to answer questions and clarify anything that doesn't make sense. I've had him for three semesters and I would recommend him to anyone in a heartbeat. It's your loss if you don't sign up for this guy!
incredibly smart man, a wizard with numbers. I would highly recommend him getting him for pre-calc
Tony is the best math teacher I have come across. Can answer and explain anything you ask. He made the material as easy as possible.
Best Math teacher I have ever met. Quizes are medium difficulty and his test are pretty hard. If you ever need his help he's there and wont quit till you understand. Great teacher!
Amazing teacher!!!!
Excellent teacher; conveyed confusing concepts in an easy to understand way. Judicious use of real-world applications of seemingly useless topics. Tests were reasonably challenging, without being too hard. Extra credit available, which gave me my A in the class.
Best professor I've had in my time at PSCC! Even semesters I haven't been able to have him, I've still gone to his office for help. He presents even the most complicated subjects with excellent clarity. Homework supports lectures and prepares you for tests. Tests are fair. Absolutely an amazing professor and I highly recommend him to anyone!
Had him a four semesters ago and still remember what he taught me. Have used him to help me with other classes such as Statics. Nice work, Crossland!
Five stars all the way. Crossland will bend over backward to help you understand math. His test are fair and reflect the homework. I would highly recomend Crossland to everyone!!!!!!!!!!
Rate the professor, not the class. Calc 2 is a ridiculous class even in a normal semester. During the summer and with other classes it is insane. Tony is a FANTASTIC math professor, the material is just hard, he can't help that. I really do not believe anyone could have taught the material better than him. He's Awesome!
great wonderfull helpful teacher, know the stuff really good, i enjoyed his class. he has pretty good reputation in pscc, take him, u won't regret
Calc 2 is extremely hard, but Tony is a great teacher and gives you every opportunity to pass the class. He is very straightforward, he wants you to learn the material and if you don't, you won't do well on the test. Do the homework he gives you and make sure you actually understand it, and you will pass. Does not bend much on grading though.
Great Teacher, class is hard but Tony will go out of his way to make sure you understand the material
Great professor! Explains everything with clarity and is very helpful when you don't understand something. The material is fast paced, however, do your homework! It will help you understand the material better.
Tony is a good professor and always willing to help and he has good attitude and is energetic. He talks very fast tho, and at 8:30 in the morning a little too fast to understand the majority of the material. Another thing I don't like is that he doesn't grade homework. The entire grade is based on tests, which sucks. He drops the lowest test score.
Tony is a real nice guy and occasionally really funny. He does a good job teaching the material and also does a good job on giving good notes. However, his class is still pretty challenging and (at times) stressful. I highly recommend using the MyMathLab software that comes with the textbook for better understanding and more practice (if needed).
I am a former student of Professor Crossland and a graduate of Pellissippi. Even after all the professors I've had since then, I still think Tony is unparalleled in teaching excellence and in his ability to impart his knowledge of mathematics to students. If you take no one else, sign up for his classes. You won't regret it!!!
Mr.Crossland is amazing. He prooves almost every new equation and will go out of his way to be positive you UNDERSTAND the math not just remember it. His notes are detailed and well polished. He posts them on the web which helps alot with homework. He allowed me to truly respect math. If you are at college to learn, not just get a degree, take him.
He was an excellent professor that truly cares about each student's grasp of the subject. If you actually want to learn math in depth(The why and how) Take Prof. Crossland.
He is a great guy who is willing to help with just about any problems you may encounter. (and he is humorous at times)
He is a great teacher. He is funny. He explains everything in simple ways. I took his MATH 1710 and now taking his MATH 1720.
Great teacher. Most of the time teaches the class like he is one on one tutoring. You will have to study hard to do good on the test. He is passionate about math. The class is actually fun. If you hate math he still is best one to follow. If you want to learn he will help you.
Best math professor ever! Don't pass up the opportunity to be in his class! Tests are of moderate difficulty. He meets regularly with his students in the learning center outside of class-time to help those who need additional instruction, which is an INVALUABLE resource! Use it, do the homework, and do the test reviews, and you will do well.
I hate math but loved having him as a teacher! He legitimately cares about his students and wants them to succeed. He was funny and always available to help. One of the best professors I have ever had.
His tests were rough, mostly because he does easy problems for examples and then throws more intricatetougher problems on the test. So the book is essential because it contains a variety of problems do all of them.
I am not sure what the hype is about. He goes over 2 or so problems then sends you on your way. you basically have to teach yourself because the test questions and even the daily quiz questions are way harder. If you want to actually learn what you need to know for a higher math class, please consider other options.
Crossland is a wonderful professor! 1730 is a hard class bc it's Trig and Precal combined, so it's fast paced. He gives out packet outlines that you fill out and follow along with during class. This gives you a very clear idea of what you're tested over. Always willing to help outside of class! Great sense of humor. Overall EXCELLENT Prof!
Awesome professor. I am taking him for every math class I possibly can.
I loved math before Crossland's class, but I love it even more thanks to this man. Seriously, he is a big nerd who is the greatest at making sure you understand. You can even bother him in his office. He has no problems with it. He welcomes it. Also, GRAB A STUDY GROUP. It will make your life so much easier and amazing.
If I could, I'd have this man teach me every subject. His lectures are clear and informative and he's always very helpful. Homework is optional, haven't opened my text book all semester. If you are lucky enough to get into his class, do stay. It takes work but it's fun
Great instructor, gives a good amount of homework, not to much to overwhelm, its like he knows we have other classes or something. Quick Feedback, and solid classroom time. Math is not my best subject but I would take him again.
ONE WORD FOR SUCCESS......(STUDY GROUP) Math is not my best subject. My life sure changed when I took his class. It was NOT an easy class !!! He is an incredible teacher who is truly passionate about the subject and will stop with what he is doing to help you fully understand. Take home quizzes. Homework(Not Graded). Medium Difficulty Tests.
Tests are not the easiest, but his lectures are very thorough. You can tell he genuinely enjoys teaching math.
Excellent professor and always willing to help!
Good, but not as good as Lamb. He gets caught up on the concepts too much and doesn't work many examples during class. Assigns only even #'s in the homework, so you can't check your answers. Sometimes doesn't even use our book, but one called "Stewart Calculus." Tests are hard & he seems to be a harsh grader. But is always there early for questions
First, Go to class. While he does scan in all of the notes that he writes in class, you need to be there to ask questions. I believe he genuinely tries his best to answer questions for every student who is genuinely trying. There are 5 total test, during my course, and there was daily homework that was taken up for a grade. Overall, pretty good.
After four years of terrible math teachers in high school, Tony was my saving grace. He has an innate ability to explain difficult concepts in ways that make the material very easy to understand. His lectures were very helpful and his tests were straight forward. If you participate, he will genuinely care about your performance in the class.
Be ready for some geekie culture. His lectures are good and referenced online later. Questions about homework and reviews get answered quickly (even on weekends). His ability to connect with the students really helps him take some difficult topics and make it a lot easier to grasp. By far one of the best math instructors I have ever had.
I took the advanced pre-cal class several years after my last math class (I am going back for a new major/career now). Because it had been so long since my last math class I was nervous about doing well. Mr. Crossland was very good with explaining and clarifying things when I or anyone else needed it. The note pages that he provides are great!
I love Tony Crossland. He's a wonderful teacher. At first he can seem kind of inflexible, but he genuinely wants you to succeed in his class and he will do whatever he can to help you learn!!! I'd take him for every single class if I could!
I'm gonna keep it simple. If you want to do well in calculus, here's your best option. This dude is a genius!
He's a little weird. Big comic book, super hero, nerd stuff in general guy. However he is a good teacher that explains the material well. He gives plenty of time to complete work. I see no problem with the guy.
He is very passionate, and is happy to help. He understands that the material he is teaching is hard.
Tony is the man. Calc 3 has been the hardest class I have ever taken but his help got me the A. Fantastic teacher. Put in the work and you will succeed.
Tony Crossland is a great teacher. His notes are really well organized and for the most part helpful. He is a lot of fun and cares about whether we are understanding the material. He has a great sense of humor and is very helpful if you come to him during his office hours for help.
Tony has been my favorite math instructor so far at Pellissippi. He gives good notes to use while in class and he uploads his notes, so it makes it very easy.
I have had a really hard time with this subject matter. Even failed it a few semesters back. But Tony was awesome. He helps in any way he can think of to get you to understand the chapter and/or subject and when it came to homework and tests it was all up to you to use everything he gives you to pass them. He makes class interesting and fun as well
Not a lot of grades, but ask homework is worth extra credit points
One of my favorite professors. He really cares that you understand the material, and always makes sure to answer any questions you may have. I went to him many times during his office hours and he is great at giving that extra help. He's made me more confident going forward with math. I wish he'd teach all of them! If you can take his class!
Tony Crossland completely changed my mindset about math. I've always had so much anxiety about the subject. Maybe I was young and dumb, maybe I didn't apply myself when I was younger. Both are probably true. Taking this class with Professor Crossland as my instructor changed everything. If you have math anxiety, I implore you to attend his class.
This is an amazing professor and is willing to help any student. He made it very easy to understand the exams as well as the homework. Definitely take advantage of the extra credit he offers on review day.
Really nerdy about DC/Marvel and cares for his students. He puts up the notes done in the class once finished so you have access to them online, but I recommend coming to class to get practice with the material. Homework heavy but it's easy online stuff (about 20-25 problems per section, don't wait until the last second to finish these).
I'm confused by the positive responses, maybe because my class was online. There was no interaction besides videos teaching the content, but he doesn't teach everything on the homework and has you learn things yourself. Also, he made the final much, much harder than the review, and I don't know why, it feels like he doesn't want you to succeed.
Tony knows what he's doing and I would recommend him to any student who needs a friendly, expressive, and all-inclusive professor to succeed in a class. I really struggle in understanding math, but the way he teaches really helped me.
The professor can actually teach the subject in an easy and understandable manner. All homework assignments, quizzes, and tests are on MyMathLab (MML). There is HW every day and two-three quizzes per chapter/unit. All homework and quizzes are due on the day of the test. Overall, a funny and understanding professor. He loves Ninja Turtles...
I can't say enough good things about tony. He helped me become a better math student who is currently going through 1710, he helps you understand the material and is very caring if you come to him with a concern. I would highly recommend him he is hilarious and is a wonderful teacher.
Actually teaches you how to do math rather than giving you examples and having to self-teach yourself outside class.
Mr. Crossland is an amazing professor, he loves Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and he is quite easy to get along with. I would recommend him to all of my friends who attend Pellissippi.
I had Professor Crossland for MATH 1030, and his fast-paced teaching style definitely made the lectures difficult to comprehend with his fast pace lectures. Tutoring and help from peers was my lifesaver! Overall, I did well in the class, but I do not recommend it for students who need detailed step-by-step instruction.
I LOVED this class. He is a great and engaging teacher. He makes sure that you understand the material and explains it very well. He loves ninja turtles. Would 100% take this class again.
Professor Crossland is exceptional! He clearly explains calculus concepts and offers helpful practice tests. A good portion of your grade can come from homework, and he drops the lowest test score, allowing you a chance to recover if needed. I finished the course with a strong understanding of the material.
Given I had taken precal only 6 months before for high-school, I found that I was able to get by with minimal studying. Others were saying that they would do a lot more. I did enjoy his lectures, they definitely weren't boring.
DREADED precal because math isn't my strong suit. Blown away by how he took his time to explain things clearly. Open to all ideas to help students remember things better. Lots of xtra credit opportunities. Give him a chance & he'll raise your confidence in math! You'll surprise yourself! Fav professor & fav class of the semester! Wonderful human.
His teaching style is easy to understand, and I found him to be very helpful. Homework is optional, but counts as extra credit on tests.
Excellent instructor! I dread precalculus, but he is really good at breaking it down and turning it into something I can understand! Offers generous amounts of extra credit and answers any questions you may have. Definitely made precalculus look extremely easy. Can't wait to take him for Calculus!
I genuinely don't know how this man is employed. He announced that everyone was getting an F for our midterm grade and I should have dropped the class at the moment. The class average stayed failing the whole semester and at that point it's the teachers fault. He can not teach. Crossland is definitely rooting on your academic downfall.
