British lit was great with him. He wasn't as inspired in Englilsh basics
Nice and helpful...
Great Teacher, You'll work hard, but have fun
Awesome instructtor, nice English accent, funny and cute.
Very good instructor. Very informative includes British history to help us understand the culture the writer was in. Always available - even outside office hours. Very helpful with papers and clarifing requirements. One of my favorite instructors!
A major helped in class, helped prepared students
BEST TEACHER I'VE EVER HAD! HE MAKES SURE EVERYONE KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING AND RELATES EVERYTHING TO WRITTING SO IT IS EASIER TO UNDERSTAND.
This class is really easy. You work at your own pace to get your work done and he gets you involoved. He is one of my favorite professors.
I took this teacher for both English 101 and English 106. He is good teacher, helpful, understanding, and is clear on what he wants.
Mr. Ding is so cool. He has an english accent, but he is very clear with his words. Fun class and you can learn a lot from him.
Mr Ding has an English accent but has very clear English. He makes coming to his class very fun. He does not grade harsh and he works with you if you are having trouble in his class (which i did)I totally recommend this teacher.
very considerate and understanding
A silly Brit with a easy class and he isnt too worried about perfection
Mr. Ding is a great Prof. He is very informative, and makes sure every class member understands what is req. You'll enjoy this class for the lectures, as well as the wide variety of music he plays before each class.
Mr. Ding is a great teacher. he helps every student polish up on the basics of writing and is very considerate. highly recommended.
best teacher ever
He ok but it is hard not to fall asleep in his class
an english guy who teaches english what more could you ask for.
Ding is a teacher that helps you with your work..if you don't understand, he could help you..he gives a lot of essays though..like once or twice a week but you get to learn a lot from them..he's pretty cool and you could understand his english accent..
He's awesome, very helpful and understanding like everyone said. His class lectures are very informative and helpful, he jokes constantly with the class and the music he plays is awesome. Highly Recommended Teacher!!!
very nice teacher. He also plays some great music in the class, and has good assignmnets. Highly recomended!
he's considerate, though understanding and u learn alot.. i recommend him
He's always on time and prepared for class. His lectures, and syllabus help keeps you on track with the course material. The essay prompts are always given way ahead of time so you can prepare in advance. I think his classes can do a lot for you if you work hard and show up regularly. BEST TEACHER EVER!!!
Mr Ding is just the sweetest ever . I loved his class . I took it because I had been out of School for so many years I wanted a refresher . It was very easy because I am sure I didn't belong there . But anyone who does need that extra help Mr Ding is just the the greatest ! Perfect for those just entering back into School also . What I learned from him ...A LOT is 2 seperate words :)
Mr ding is a great techer. he makes his class seem easy and the way he teaches is understandable. u actually learn in his class. He is great with giving extra help. i really recommend Mr. Ding for anyone.
Mr. Ding is very sweet and really cares about his students. He has a completely laid out syllabus so that it is easy to know what's coming up. Most of his quizzes were take home and he gave good essay prompts ahead of time. There are three essays of your choice that are a little deeper, but as long as you know MLA and grammar, you should be fine.
LOVE HIM! I learned something new every class. Sometimes I skipped all my other classes except went to his. Reading not neccessary outside of class short of take home quizzes. Pay attention in class and take good notes and tests will be easy. He is strict on grammer in the 3 essays which are assigned the first week of class and due the last day.
Mr. Ding is a great teacher. He really cares about his students and takes the extra time to help with any problems you may have. I would recommend anyone to take his class. He is a wonderful teacher and a great person. You will learn a lot and have a fun time.
Mr. Ding is a wonderful teacher, he's funny and very understanding. I love his British accent and he often has amusing stories to tell. His class is the only class I pay attention to. Take good notes, do the take home quiz and you'll do great on the final. I wish he taught more classes aside from the Brit Lits!
Shakespeare was so interesting. I was afraid of taking it, but Mr. Ding made it not only easy to understand, but lots of fun. We went to the Old Globe, watched movies of the plays and even acted a little. Great class, take it.
Professor Ding is well organized and really knows his Shakespeare. He is brillant and one can tell he loves to teach. He is always ready to help students at any time. I wish he taught more classes at the college; How about some American Lit?
Mr. Ding is one of the best teachers in Grossmont College. His beutiful English encouraged me to study English more intensively. He is always calm, patient and nice with all of his students (even with those who don't deserve it.) I think it's really hard not to pass his class. Take his course, and hopefully you'll never regret about it.
Great help all the way around, fun teacher.
honestly, this class is a bit dull, but i find professor ding to be a nice guy. maybe it's because i'm not the biggest fan of british literature but i really have to concentrate in order to pay attention; the class itself isn't that difficult, though.
Ding is from England and thus is very interested in the Historical background, but, it seemed at times (a lot of the time) I was in a History of England class instead of Literature. The material covered is dull, and the class is boring. Easy grading system makes it hard to not pass the class though.
he's a good teacher overall. It's an easy course and I reccomend that if you need to take Eng 98 then take it with mr. Ding.
This class is soooo boring. He is very nice but his voice does not fluctuate so it just adds to how boring the class is. Im an english major and this was my first B. It was very hard for me because i found the reading to be very boring and i could not pay attention in class. Do not take this class it is painful
It seemed so appropriate to take British Lit classes from a professor with a British accent! I love how he plays music (usually British artists) at the beginning of each class. The films he shows are hilarious as well. Classy and all-around great professor!
Very easy. You pretty much work at your own pace. Class is the same every week, but sometimes can be boring. 20 word vocab test once a week. Hardly any homework and the books we read in this class are short. He is very lenient when you miss class and not turn in work. You can always make up missed test and turn in late homework. Very nice person.
Mr. Ding's class was enjoyable for me. he is laid back and understanding. nice man, hes from england and his accent is cool!! vocab was easy and the book tests were hard if you didnt read! take him, hes good.
Great guy! Great teacher! Lots of Fun
I found Prof. Ding to be a great instructor. He really makes sure his students understand how to write. I learned a lot from his class. I recommend that if you need an English class that he is teaching, be sure to take him.He grades fairly and gives good essay prompts.
I found Professor Ding to be a great teacher, and human being. Pay attention in class and you will learn many useful grammar tips. Mr. Ding is a fair grader on essays. He allows you to rewrite/repair your mistakes in your essays. Not much homework, just a few essays, and a workbook on grammar. I enjoyed his class, and learned a lot.
350 words are far too few to describe this professor. I absolutely recommend his courses, as he is simply a joy to be around. He is understanding, encouraging, refreshingly humble, and is known to invite students for tea. I ask, "How can anyone be hostile toward a Briton who so appreciates the scores of Beethoven and the Sex Pistols?"
British Lit is not easy to grasp, especially the language, if you don't have an instructor patient enough to teach you. Tony is a wonderful man and a humble teacher. He makes the class relaxing & helps guide us through even the dullest readings. He's extremely understanding & always there to help you. You must read! Don't be afraid to talk to him.
Professor Ding runs a very relaxed class. There is a large amount of discussion as a class and within small groups. Coursework includes two papers and extensive reading. Professor Ding gives very in-depth lectures discussing not only the literature of Britian, but also the political and social history of the country.
Prof. Ding is a fantastic teacher, and person. He really cares about his students, and wants you to learn how to write well. I took his class a year ago. Due to his English 098 class, I was prepared for English 110 and 120. Thank you Prof. Ding!
He is the best for teaching Skakespeare! (Even comes with the accent) He was always doing little things to add to the class, like playing music or bringing snacks. I only wish I could take the class again as he teaches different plays each semester. As an English teacher myself, I really learned a lot in the class and loved to study Shakespeare.
I had this guy back in 1997 when he was just an adjunct professor. I dropped out of college in 1999 and came back last year. I'm pleased to see he's still at Grossmont and an assoc. prof. now. He was amazing at teaching rules of grammar! I probably learned more from him than all of my high school English teachers combined.
Professor Ding is a nice guy; however, his teaching style is very archaic. A majority of the class involves him standing in the front of the room lecturing. There are quizzes every other week. Two out-of-class essays, which you get little direction on. Don't take this class unless you're prepared to read a lot and take lots of notes in class.
Amazing teacher. Mr. Ding was interesting and I looked forward to attending his class. He really cares about hi students. Mr. Ding is very approachable.
Professor Ding is a great teacher. He really helps you and gives you a lot of time to do work, however; there is hardly any work to do. He gives you a few paragraphs to write and then two essays. HIGHLY recommended.
i dreaded this class every time i had to go to it. the students are not involved at all, he just stands at the front of the class for the entire semester and lectures while you take notes. seemed more to me like a history class then an english class. the only good thing is you dont really have to go, i went once a week and still passed.
Professor Ding is awesome in all regards. HIs class is interesting. He is cool, and he really helps you develep useful writing skills. He's great!
Enjoy enjoyed this class was very helpful to use as a stepping stone, after being out of school for a very long time.
I had the same class as the 1/25 dreader below. I liked the class BECAUSE the teacher made it a colorful history of Englnd. Tons of reading -- don't take another lit class in the same semester or you will be super stressed. You are tested as much on the historical personages as on the readings. Take full notes on everything even movies.
Tony Ding is the only man for this job.Never take Brit Lit from another instructor-I tried, and it was painful! For a pain-free, high quality education, get in Ding?s class. He?s solid and sharp, but not stiff and will never bite. He's the ideal teacher: a wise & humble man who understands fun.He will lead you right--a great brain and a good heart.
He is EXTREMELY AWESOME! he looks out for the students, he's not just their for a paycheck! Highly recommended!
Great prof! Took for Brit Lit 1 and 2. Class is 1/2 history so be prepared. Reading required. Multiple in-class essays, and take-home multiple/short answer quizzes. Tough grader, likes to give out high Bs instead of low As. Dedication, communication and office hours will bump you up to that A.
I disagree with one item in the comment below: I found him to be a generous grader. It's difficult to get less than a high B (even when an in-class essay is turned in unfinished!). Effort is rewarded. He truly wants you to aspire to create quality work & gives you the tools to do so. Students don't want to disappoint him--this is his secret;)
Professor Ding is a jewel. I thoroughly have enjoyed my English 221. He always comes prepared for class, I have never been confused as to what's expected of me. He is understanding and he wants each student to succeed and sets us up to do so. Very likeable and knowledgeable
Ding is a good teacher, but he can come off as painfully boring. He has a sense of humor, which is good, but they're a bit nerdy sometimes as they reference literature. It's best to read the sections as he does give random in-class journal assignments. He gives essay topics a day in advance for the tests. Take good notes to prepare for quizes.
Mr. Ding is an amazing teacher. There was never a time where I felt like I didn't know what was being taught. It is true that he is always prepared and his jokes were pretty funny. Overall, I enjoyed being one of his students.
Great teacher! Handouts are given for homework weekly, then gone over in class. Make sure you have the textbook because it is used almost daily. Overall I really enjoyed the class and learned a lot.
Not my favorite literature teacher. He's a very nice, very funny guy, and he grades super easy on all the essays (I got an A in his class no problem). But if you are looking for a lit. teacher that makes the reading thought-provoking (outside of what the intros & footnotes give you), I don't recommend his class.
Great sense of humor. Simple teaching style. British. Great personality. has a deep understanding of english, and because of his upbringing, can tell you things not available by any american. a B is easy to attain. His class is enjoyable, and I look forward to coming to class.
I hate English and can't stand it but he made it fun with silly games he has for certain projects. If you do his homework and handouts it is and A for sure. His test are supper easy and don't take long, maybe 20 to 30 minutes. Also, if you show up everyday you get to see how the test are going to be. The book is ESSENTIAL.
Prof. Ding is an amaizing teacher, he helps you when you need it. if you go to his office hours and ask for his help he will be more than happy to help. His essays are pretty good and the way he teaches os fantastic. Participate! BOOK IS ESSENTIAL! He is understanding and if you request prior help on a quiz or test he will help! gives hints 4 tests
First off you'll love his accent. He is an amazing teacher and makes class enjoyable with his sense of humor. Book use is basically every class and he is adamant about attendance. Everyone should take this class with him; trust me you would not regret it.
Tony is one of the best professors I've ever taken. He knows the material backwards and forwards and does not hesitate to slow down and explain things in detail if necessary. The workload is average and the papers give students free reign over certain subject areas. His lecture style is thought provoking. You'll love him!
With his British accent, he is able to have fun and laugh while still managing to teach. There is a lot of reading and vocab, but i can say it definitely made me better at reading
Mr. Ding is a nice guy but his class is painfully boring. The class was not by any means easy. I worked very hard and only got a C. He had an older masters student from sdsu helping him grade so I think that was one problem I had with it. The essays require a lot of work and there is a ton of reading.
I loved professor Ding! I took his class three semesters ago, and I had to rate him! He is seriously so awesome, and very fair! His class is easy if you keep up with the homework and class work. I highly recommend him!
He told us toward the end of the class that everything on tests and essays were covered in class and yet one essay prompt specifically said to use things that were not. There were a lot of pop quizzes on things not covered in class as well. We spent more time following along as he read in class rather than reading at home and discussing in class.
I love professor Ding. Although it can sometimes be difficult to follow along, if you just ask the right questions, you should pass this class with no problems. He's easy to work with and he cares that students pass. Just be sure that you show up and follow along with lectures and participate in group discussions. These are all really helpful.
He is a nice teacher but I do not understand his British accent he doesn't explain very clear he turns the page with out letting you know and expects you to know what page he's on don't understand any thing he is trying to explain!
Mr. Ding is awesome but he is a tough grader the class I took he goes by points not by percentage! Good Luck.
He is a great guy, but can be a little confusing with the lecture. You have to really pay attention and do what hes asking. Kind of hard to understand his British accent, but overall he is a funny guy. Good luck!
I've taken this professor twice now and he's been awesome each time. Chill and hilarious and always available for helping students. He really wants you to succeed. If you do the homework, you shouldn't have any problem getting an A. I didn't do a ton of the homework and still got an A. Know how to write an essay.
He's nice and easy. Everything you do in that class, benefits you. The books you read from that class is relatable to now a day life. I love this class.
I LOVED THIS CLASS. sure, some days were a drag, but I was actually able to resonate with the stories/articles Professor Ding made us read. put in effort, do your work, & he'll be understanding & lenient when it comes to grading your papers.
Brit lit 2 was the worst class I have taken at Grossmont. The way Professor Ding has it set up makes it unbearable. Every single day you come to class, read through the poems, and that's it. I didn't go to class half the time and got an A. He is a nice guy and is pretty easy but this class was terrible.
Very unstructured, goes off on tangents during lecture, incredibly boring lectures, unsure of what to take notes on during lecture ensuring no way to confidently study for tests (lack of study guides doesn't help), and assumes you have uncommon knowledge on certain topics of English. Probably one of, if not the worst English teacher I've ever had.
He was hard, but good. I really enjoyed his class, he is witty and funny. You have to basically follow all basic rules and he will like you. Gives honest feedback.
He is the best professor I have ever had! Recommend you to take his class!! Great Professor!! You won't regret it!
Professor Ding's class is one of the hardest I've taken. It's lecture heavy, you have to take great notes, the reading is a must in order to pass any of his quizzes, and you have two write about a total of five essays (including 2 in class essays). Having said that, he's an amazing professor and you leave the class actually having learned a lot.
