Passionate about what he teaches, and is always willing to help students. He challenges his students, so his classes aren't easy. Great professor.
great teacher! wants students to suceed, he often tells his thought process behind the solution to better explain any math problem. know your trig. for this class!
I enjoy his teaching style and his explation of theorems. His homework packets can be tricky and most always require the aid of another student for answer checking but his daily homework is useful to keep me on track with his teachings
I truely enjoyed Tony's class...he is always willing to help when it was needed. Very approachable, easy to talk to. Very tough class, but I couldnt have gotten through it without his help.
Tony is an oddball (in a good way) that makes Calculus II enjoyable. He's easy to understand, presents ideas well, and always encourages questions and office visits.
Awesome teacher, and his homework helps a lot too A+++
I agree completely: Professor Dunlop is an oddball, but a good one. He has fun with his teaching but explains everything well and is willing to help when you get stuck. Highly recommended.
He is a great teacher, very helpful. He is awesome especially knows what he is talking about, explains well. I recommend him to everyone.
Great teacher, really cares about students, and he's funny, which is a plus. Highly recommended.
Nice guy, explains everything very clearly and thoroughly. Can be a little picky about answers, but overall I would recommend him if you need to take calculus and actually want to understand it.
He is tough, but he explains well and clearly. He is picky in grading test, but it is fair. I would recommend him to anyone who is willing to work hard. He is a great teacher!!!!
Great guy, definately knows his stuff. His notes/lecture is excellent, filled with good examples. Can move kind of fast and sometimes 'go off on a tangent'. I dont know how his test usually go. My professor got sick, Dunlop took over teaching the class using book problems for test questions. He flat out said it's not how he usually does things.
The best math class I've ever taken was his Calc 1 course. You've got to love a teacher who can actually make Calculus FUN! He is alway willing to help during his office hours and he is just a cool guy to talk to.
He rocks. Is hillarious and very passionate about what he is teaching.Focuses on communicating the concepts rather than just the technique. loved his class.gained a lot out of it. His animated gestures and movements keep one awake and entertained. No matter how sleepy or tired you are he wil never fail to catch your attention. very helpful and clear
Very Good, Very Clear. Great Enthusiasm for subject.
He's a good teacher. he's fun and he makes the class entertaining. For me though this math was a little abstract. Very little math, its more about the thought process for him. He grades strictly. He does make the class at least somewhat interesting though.
On the homework, just doing the correct question isn't enough, you'd have to be able to explain your answers to a 12 year old. Loves to play the interrupting game when students ask questions. Extremely sloppy handwriting doesnt help. Don't take this class expecting to get a good grade.
I'm not good at math but he managed to explain it to me in a way that I could understand. I had a B before the final but a scheduling conflict with anatomy made me forfeit part of the final, dropping my grade to a C. He was willing to hear me out and change my grade to a pass which didn't ding my GPA. Great prof all around.
Missing a day of class is suicidal! Everyday is so important and you cover so much! This is the only class during fall semester that I didn't miss a day of!
he is very good teacher
If your expecting structure, dont take this class. He is a very nice prof, but very disorganized. Homework is very important and make sure you get do it.
I had great teachers before him, but his class was one of the best classes I enjoyed ever. He is so passionate and willing to show us the theory behind the subject. There are some catches for his greatness. His home work or exam questions are require some type of thinking not just remembering formulas; in fact all the formulas you need for the exa
Very enthusiastic about math. There is a major downside to him though. Grades are not curved even in a Calculus 4 class. The way he grades your homework and test is very strict, for some reason showing work and getting the right answer isn't enough. Every little detail is needed.
Tony is a great prof. He knows his stuff and is amazing at getting people to understand difficult and confusing topics in math. I've heard Calc 2 is one of the hardest of the four and he sure made it a lot easier! However, he does grade really hard, and is a stickler for little errors so watch out for those on homework and exams. Highly recommended
Great teacher. One of the hardest graders I have ever had. He gave me the first b I have had in math since 9th grade. If you normally show a lot of work thou you will do well in his class.
Great Professor! Made class fun to attend. Smart. Funny. Glad I chose him for a professor!! Highly recommend. SHOW YOUR WORK and you will do fine.
Mr. Dunlop is great!! He was very helpful and I took pre-calc from him. Basically if you do the homework that is assigned, you should do well. In addition to that, he is always helpful during his offie hours.
Probably the best math teacher at Normandale. Be prepared to work though.
Sadly I had to take Math 0600 but was lucky enough to have Tony as my Math lab professor. Great personality and he is very understanding of other life commitments. Gives great feedback on lesson tests which helps with the final. I would highly recomend him.
Dunlop is one of the most helpful teachers I've ever had. I went into his office a couple time to get help and he was more than happy to help me understand the material. He is incredibly smart and a very nice guy. I would suggest him to anyone taking any math class.
kinda a weirdobut nice enough basically you do all your own work
fun teacher, doesn't actually teach though. he does examples but constantly makes mistakes, and no notes. have to mainly teach yourself the material
He is a very stuck up teacher with high expectations. He does not teach so class time is useless. Take this class if you want to teach yourself calc from the book. He rarely gives partial credit on exams. One mistake expect to get 1/9 points.
Avoid this guy if you can. He should not be "teaching". He goes over abt 3 problems in class, and then expects u to teach urself everything else with little to no questions. Save urself the 600ish bucks, and sign up for Alexs program independantly. For abt 60 bucks an online program can teach you much better than he can.
I have never been so dicouraged by a teacher. Doesn't teach. Just does examples and talks at you. Inconsistant grading. Double check your tests grades. Will count wrong if doesn't like your work even if have right answer. Don't show too much work or you get that wrong too. save yourself some time and dignity and take an online class.
I took his Cal2 before this Cal4 class. Great professor overall. He has a lot of sense of humor in class. Although, he constantly makes small mistake in class, his method of approach is crystal clear. Definitely recommended.
He is a very poor teacher. He does not explain things very well. If you are looking for a poor grade, he is the man for you.
He only care what he throw out at class, he don't care what students learn from his class at all. He allow himself make any mistake when teaching, he only apologise to us and then keep make mistake again and again. If we have any small mistake at assignment or test, he will take lots of points away.
Not prepare before class at all, but he expect you learn everything from his class, even something he didn't mention!! Office hour not fit for students, and he doesn't care.
A PhD professor doesn't mean he know how to teach others. At least his way to teach won't fit for me. He never post the assignment solution but just tell you you did wrong. He expect student have study group to answer questions each other. If so, why we have to pay him for class?!
He is absolutely mean under his nice smiling face. If you want to see how a professor can make 1/4 of students withdrawal from his class, sign up with Professor Dunlop!!
Loved this teacher. Very helpful outside of class and he cares very much about your understanding of the material. He might go a little fast during class, but if you have any questions you can also go in and ask him. He is very percise in his method of teaching.
Has extremely high standards. Should move the grade breakdown at least 10% for it to be even slightly reasonable. I would never take a class with this professor again.
It's my last semester in Normandale to finish my AA & AS degree, and get my first ever D grade from his class to break my 4.0 GPA. He try all his best to subtract your points. He will conside you don't understand the whole material just by forgetting a minor sign. If you ask around in school, you'll definitely withdraw his class right away.
I have always hated math! I returned to college after 20+ years so, yeah my math was bad! Tony has us learn on our computer using ALEKS online. If you have a question, he will run to answer and will help you understand it! I know he has gotten bad reviews in the past, but believe me and work with him! He will be your best friend in math!
Super hard grader, will take whole problem points away with only a minor mistake. Skip this professor if you can!!
Professor Dunlop is by far the most confusing person ever. This class was very difficult, I had to work my hardest and I barely got a B. He doesn't take attendance, but if you consistently miss class there is no way you will pass.
Took his math for liberal arts class... very interesting to say the least haha. Funny teacher with no homework ever. Super easy class if you complete all the class work (you will). Same kind of work everyday so if you don't like a routine take another math class.
I hate math, but this class was easy, well-taught, and probably the first math class I've ever actually enjoyed. Perfect for someone who isn't planning on going into something that needs a more advanced math class, but still needs the credit to graduate. The teacher is kind of awkward, but he's funny that way. No textbook required.
This class is all assignments. The lectures are too short/he is too unorganized to give you the basis for them, so you're left to learn the material from the textbook on your own for the homework. Too much material for one semester maybe? And then the grading seems to be sort of arbitrary and draconian; unforgiving when he hasn't taught us well.
You're supposed to do prep work before class, ok understandable, but in class, all you do is practice problems, if you need help, he'll help you. Wouldn't it be easier to just lecture the whole class, because he's going to have to be at my desk 100% of the time then. Very confusing, and seems like I'm just self teaching myself.
He structures calc like it is an online class. We go to class not to be taught by him, but so that he can take attendance, and then push you off to do online assignments. Then if you have questions he'll go around to each person with their hand up to teach them individually. Sucks at clarifying. Everything is basically self taught. Tests are hard.
He really doesn't teach like a normal class, he gives you problems to work on during class for a majority of the time so he teaches like an online class. All you really do is work on problems and you have to learn by yourself and it's really frustrating at times.
He does not teach the class as a normal lecture,so get ready to learn by yourself if you can. Exams problems are above the problem that you work in class. And The H.W assignment (not the online ones) is so difficult as well. For me I never learn math from reading textbooks, if so do you, avoid taking any class with him. It'll be so frustrating.
All due respect to him personally, a guy like him should not be allowed to teach. He absolutely sucks at teaching and gives hard exams while does not give the proper teaching.
Doesn't teach well rather will let you do problem on WEBASSIGN that are not even close to what he offers in exams. Avoid him if possible
The long class period does not prepare you for the exams whosoever. The pre-lecture assignment is arguably stupid. Avoid him if possible.
Let's put it this way. If you want to save yourself a lot of frustration, avoid taking a class with him. You may go to every lecture and do all of the webassign problems and yet fail the exams since everything you do in class is nothing comparing to what he assigns.
He's a pretty thorough teacher, but he's an extremely tough grader. You can show get the problem right, show your work, but still not get 100% credit because you didn't explain it well enough. Comes off as pretentious. He's very smart and knows his stuff, but you need to work really hard for an A.
I don't know what the definition of hard work after I took this course. You go to class and do the problem and study for the exam and ends up failing exams. It's confusing with mr Dunlop
I took his summer trig class and it almost killed me. He will do one problem on the board and youre tested on it two days later. Prepare to teach yourself and lose points on questions you got right because you "didnt explain it well enough". Do yourself a favor and avoid him if you can.
Really good professor but if you don't show up don't expect to do well. Grades homework harder than tests, he gives you a week, so be thorough. He really does want you to learn what's under the hood of linear algebra and diff eq so just doing calculations isn't enough. If you think he's tough, wait until upper division math at a 4 year college...
He is very knowledge, but beware of his really tough grading. Make sure you are actually getting to a point that agrees with his standards. I do better on online homework than the turn in on paper homeworks. You can skip class and simply study from the book though, DO ALL ODD-NUMBERED EXERCISES! He gives you a list to practice.
He is fun, but very tough as a grader. Tests were easier than homework. I like the book better than his notes personally. Do all ODD-NUMBERED EXERCISES as he assigns from the book and you can go the easy way for preparing for his tests.
Activites due everyday, lets you redo 3, open book exams, takes attendance, pretty easy course but can be hard if you skip dosnt give good feedback. and no textbook
Whoa, do I know calculus 1 now! Tony makes sure you understand the material. Due to the level of depth to which Tony taught the topic, I had to literally tutor the tutors in the tutoring center, so use his office hours. Point is, if you value LEARNING the the material and you're not just checking the box, take Tony's class! He is a caring guy.
Most of the class is work done by yourself online and feels like your on your own most of the time.
he is the worst instructor ever
he is not good. avoid him if you can.
Tony is a great teacher, would highly recommend him. Hes quite a funny guy. The kids in my class that didnt like him are the ones that didnt feel like doing any of the work and blamed it on him.
A quirky guy, but overall a good professor. Statistics isn't for everybody; be prepared to study if it doesn't come easy. Tony is a really tough grader but is approachable and will respond to your inquiries. Class is 100% lectures w/ accompanying outlines which make for great study tools. You'll have to spend $110 for MyStatLab, which sucks.
I work very hard in school, but he was the worst teacher I have ever had. He never answers questions clearly and he leaves you very confused and definitely ill prepared for the BS tests he gives. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS! He is the worst teacher I have come across!!
Only taking his class because its the only one available this semester thats not online. Wants you to be very specific but yet will mark off a lot of points for missing a word in the explanation. Hard grader on test and worse on Hw , wants you to be brief but yet also wants you to give a detailed explanation? Thinks hes clear, really not.
The most unclear math professor on campus. Wants you to be brief and explain in full detail, but will cut major points being off a couple words or being "redundant". doesn't even tell how he grades and somehow wants you to be perfect in everything. avoid at all costs if possible, he's not worth the frustration at all. no clear grading criteria.
got a C due to his complicated grading system that is not clear and has no room for questioning. not worth it, avoid at all cost SOS. worst professor at normandale by far and comes off very condescending not worth the headache when there are better professors in the college.
Your grade is basically the luck of a straw. There was a homework assignment I got a few points off. I re-do it again copy paste the right answers and fix the wrong ones, somehow I got the right ones from before wrong and the corrected ones right. Grading is very contradicting and not clear. Frustrating and not helpful, testing was graded very bad.
I'll make it short and sweet: Do you want to understand the inner workings of the math you're learning, and are you willing to work hard to do so? If that's the case, take the course from nobody else. Tony is a hard grader with lots of homework, but he is an excellent teacher. If you're just taking a class to check a box, go with someone else.
I dont know why there are so many negative reviews. Mr. Dunlop is my favorite professor! Only took him for stats, though. Mr. D was very helpful, approachable, and patient answering questions, and his quirky personality made stats more interesting. I would take him again! Read text and be detailed in answers to cover bases. DO PRACTICE PROBLEMS!
Tony is a nice enough guy, but his teaching was extremely disappointing. His lectures made the reading even more unclear. If I asked for feedback/clarification, he would not explain the concept in a different way than he had before. The homework expectations and grading criteria were very frustrating. I passed the class by the grace of God alone.
Do not take this class! I asked him to check over my homework answers and when they were marked the wrong, he told me that he never read them over. He is supercritical and needs all explanations to be written his way or it is wrong. If you want to take a class where the professor is not helpful at all take him. I DO NOT recommend this professor.
Worst professor I have taken so far. He is supercritical on grading especially on homework assignments; if its not the way he explains it, which is very detailed, youll get a low grade. I tried explaining my answers as detailed as possible and he still gave me a low score. Definitely look for another math class unless if you like logic thinking.
By far the worst professor I have ever had. This is my first year of college and I almost failed out of his class. His grading scale is RIDICULOUS. You can get the question right, but oops, didn't explain it enough, so you get a zero. 0/10 do NOT take this class. This man made me want to cry myself to sleep.
This guy has zero clue what he is doing teaching online... he is the worst professor I have ever had, I am in my third year of college and would tell anyone who is going to take his class to take the semester off and take the class with another teacher. This guy is terrible and has no business being an online teacher. He should take the year off...
Terrible professor for online, had zero clue on what he was doing, very hard understanding things he is doing or saying. Go to class and have zero understanding. Grades Hw very rough and feedback on hw is terrible or can't understand what im doing wrong. Absolutely terrible professor, good person but not handy with school. Would rate 0 if I could.
You can get all the answers right for your homework assignment or exams, but that doesn't matter since his grading scale is outrageous. If you don't explain your answers the way he explains it, you will lose points. Very old fashioned, doesn't know how to use D2L drop-boxes. If you need Calc IV credits, Normandale is not the place to take it.
Tony is a good professor but has his quirks. Not perfect, but good enough for me (as someone who isn't good at math). As an online teacher, he could be much better with the technology. Lectures are dry, but if you do the assignments in his class, I guarantee that you will pass. Yes, he does grade tough, but is reasonable, so I still recommend him.
This guy cannot grade for his life. I got answers right, yet he marked them wrong for not writing out exactly as he wanted.
Has a very strict grading criteria that he didn't explain until after our first test. Good videos that explained the material really well but the grading was really inconsistent sometimes
Horrible teacher. Even Worse Grader. Teaches way too fast and even when asked to slow down he keeps going quick. The grading scale is insane. No matter how well you do on the homework or test it's his way or the highway. Even if you get the answer right, you didn't get it right because he will pick every little thing out.
Mr. Dunlop is definitely one of the best professors Ive had. Hes really good at giving detailed feedback on every homework and test to help you avoid repeating mistakes. Just like in every math class, if you want to do well, then make sure to practice. Most of the content youll be getting through lectures, so dont worry about a lot of reading.
There are LONG lectures w/ note-taking, little homework, but LOTS of practice needed outside of class. Homework & tests are TOUGHLY graded w/ little feedback. Office hours are very helpful! The class seems simple, you wont pass if you dont STUDY A LOT. Having a study buddy is very helpful! I studied a lot weekly but got Cs & Ds on the exams.
This professor was the toughest grader on the exams. No matter how much I studied his recordings on the lessons, I always got low scores on the exams. He hand grades them and is very picky on your wording. If it is not exactly like how he phrases the answers, he will grade it wrong.
Get ready for doing a lot of homework that is not really on the test. No practice test. Toughest grader ever! Math has always been my favorite subject until taking this class. Don't even know how many times I cried over this class.
He was very picky on the grading and if you missed a class good luck catching up.
This class wasn't hard by any means and if you show up and do the assignments you should be able to pass. He also let us re-do assignments for better grades. My biggest issue is that he doesn't set clear expectations and his grading is unpredictable.
Nice guy, but he grades assignments and tests very harshly.
Not a bad teacher. Helps you when you don't understand something and will walk through the problem with you. Doesn't give you much review, you have to do it yourself through non-graded problems from the book. Explains material well with guided notes, but if you miss a class you have to get notes from someone else in the class.
Really weird class. He doesn't lecture, and class time is just used to do the "homework"/attendance (yeah idk either)So for 1.5 hours you are just sitting on a screen learning it by yourself. Not what I was looking for in a class. Though he was very expressive of his expectations. If you need a teacher who rambles, THIS CLASS IS NOT FOR YOU!
Tough class but if you pay attention he explains things very well and really cares about what he's teaching.
This class was extremely difficult, as a strong student I was always so confused when receiving my grades back and having them be so low even when I understood the content and would receive help. Not a class for hands on and visual learners.
So harsh with grading but was hard to comprehend his teaching
He doesn't care about his students at all. He sucks, don't take him, you will regret it. Trust. I stuck out till the second to last test and absolutely flunked it, all that hard work and stress for nothing. I tried to reach out for help- he wasn't helpful.
Dunlop's lectures tended to have A LOT of information within each topic. When coming back to the problems later on to study, it tended to be difficult understanding how we got the answers. However, he provides the service of Statcrunch which helps with the need of not memorizing a bunch of long formulas. Also, a funny guy who's also a bit quirky.
if you like to maintain a good GPA, not to pay for class and redo it again, stay away from this dude!!!. His teaching style is very bad. Never writes any thing on the board. always gives little to nothing info. and very hash on grading. so, my advise is if you're not the smartest then don't register his class!!.
really weird guy. Extremely tough grader that puts way too many points on assignments.
Do not take this guy. Very hard grader, classes are just boring lectures. Doesn't explain material very well. Homework is not explained at all.
Do not take him unless you already feel confident in the material before the class or you're ready to teach yourself. One of the harshest graders I have ever had and his lectures are long and without pause. Isn't very available to help either. By the end of the class 3/4 of the class had dropped.
I feel like his lectures are good and they apply to the exams, but not the written assignments worth 20% of your grade. These assignments are time-consuming, and the questions often apply knowledge from other subjects such as economics. Honestly, lecture and exams aren't bad, just the at-home assignments. :)
Very boring 2hr lectures. Intro to stats is a very easy class that can be learned from textbook. Harsh grading. To get credit for an answer your wording had to be exact. You don't need to show up if you read from textbooks because he teaches straight from textbook. If you can't learn by yourself, don't take his class.
You mainly teach yourself in his class through ebooks. He is an incredibly tough grader and does not give extra credit or makeups.
I love Professor Dunlop's personality. Hilarious guy and does care about you doing well in the class. Approachable and WILL answer your questions. However, he is an extremely tough grader, so hard that I needed to drop this to save my GPA. It's not uncommon to get 10/18 or 20/35 on the homework. Find someone else if you take your GPA seriously.
if you need to keep your GPA and need a good grade simple just forget about this class.never take this class.
Trust me when I say STAY AWAY from this guy. Not only does he have a strange personality that honestly just makes me feel uncomfortable, he provided no help when I was struggling to get decent grades on his test EVEN THO I put an insane amount of time into his class and felt like I understood everything. Don't waste your time on this guy.
This guy was downright terrible. He second guesses himself every class; he said I was wrong on a homework I was actually right on. If you ask him for help, he will tell you to ask your classmate instead of helping you. Most of my classmates regularly got 50% on homework. If you value getting good grades, don't take this class.
don't take his classes if you care about your grades.
Anthony Dunlop was HORRIBLE. Minimum of 24 hours of work a week. All lectures pre-recorded. Class time is for homework ONLY. Not helpful/beats around the bush when asking a question. Marks homework and test answers incorrect, yet the info is from his lecture recordings and homework answers provided from the textbook. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!!
His teaching is unnecessarily complex. He explained the curriculum as if we were all majoring in stats. His tests are hard and stressful because of the way he explains things makes it difficult to understand, so the tests seem harder than they are. I would not recommend him for a professor.
Tony (full name Anthony) was a awful professor. EVERYTHING IS ONLINE BUT YOU MUST BE AT CLASS!! he starts of rambling for 20-30 mins everyday about the same stuff we learned on day 1. this class is entirely self driven!!!! you go on a website and then you solve problems yourself and he just sits at his desk. idk how he has a job, he doesnt teach.
Wouldn't recommend this professor - lectures are dry, grading is harsh, and material is hard to understand. However, tools like unstuck ai can help with study prep. Overall, be ready to teach yourself if taking this class.
Tony is a great guy. His class is pretty difficult because he expects a lot from you. He expects you to read the textbook out of class and do the class prep problems before class. Now, this could be pretty helpful for learning, but because of this, he does not teach the topics much in class. But he clearly explains it during his office hours.
Tony can't write to save himself. He reads off the textbook and grades horribly. I put 3.9 for an answer and he said wrong and said the answer was 3.999999999999 and put twenty 9's! People around me usually got an D or an F on every homework assignment. Don't take this guy if you want to pass!!
You WILL FAIL relying on his teaching. Lectures are confusing and hard to follow. He gives lots of homework before lecture. The class is almost entirely self-reliant on the textbook and yourself. Tough grader, having specific nuances for assignments and removing lots of points for small mistakes. No retakes, extra credit, or reduced credit either.
Mr. Dunlop is an amazing teacher with a super clear grading criteria. He challenges you with hard homework problems, but makes the tests reasonable and understandable if you've done the homework. Although my classes were only 90 minutes, he explains as much as possible in an entertaining and engaging way.
Mr. Dunlop was a great teacher, personable guy, and entertaining individual. Yes, he is old school, and has a somewhat strange personal vendetta against technology ("gadgetry", as he calls it). But if you are willing to be a decent student and put in the work that any good Calculus 2 class demands, you will truly excel & learn the material with him
First, I want to note that Professor Dunlop writes reviews about himself on here, look closely at a lot of the positive ones and you'll notice his signature style. Ignoring that, I took Differential Equations with him in Spring of 2022 and the grading criteria was incredibly unclear. Correct answer but wrong form? Zero points. Still salty about it
