AWSOME instructor.
though it may be hard to take in...Dr Jackson by far is the best instructor/mentor that i have had in my life.take black psy 268....because once he gives you the key...all you have to do is open the door and enter into an atmosphere ot true knowledge
lectures are a little tough to understand, particularly for abnormal psych. interesting lecture because he is funny at times and has actual experience in the field unlike some other teachers. class is tough but he gives alot of extra credit so dont worry. i would recommend him, great professor
Would not recomend him. Wastes a lot of lecture time trying to incorporate technology into the class. Computers are good, but it is more important that we cover the material. I could not follow his lectures very well. Mostly self taught class. He was late often, or no show. Wasted a lot of our time

Teacher is nice guy, but teacher wan not focused on our class. I didn't like his teaching methods. Very hard to learn. Focused so much time on how to incorporate technology into the class, that he could have spent teaching us something. Numerous useless trips to the computer lab, that had nothing to do with how we were graded. Waste of time. No Fun

He is my all time fav. psych teacher. i took him for about 3 classes (abnormal, child dev., psych 100) n i got an a in all of them. he is really easy n totally approachable. if i need to take more psych classes i hope he's teaching them.

Dr. J is so nice and very approachable. It was a tough class for me, but being familiar with the material and studying makes a BIG difference. It's a relaxed atmosphere and I'm learning a lot. I'm definately taking him for my next psych class.
Late and disorganized. Arrives 20+ min. late even when there's a test. Easily distracted, constantly stepping out of class to talk to someone, even mid-lecture or while passing out tests. He's a great speaker but too scattered. Class feels like wasted time. Very frustrating & disappointing. Don't recommend this prof at all.
it is so easy to earn an A. 10 point quizzes about once a week, and as long as you read or pay attention, its a cakewalk. and if you dont study, there is SO much extra credit. good guy, okay teacher, lots of class participation. i reccommend him.
I took the online class thinking it would be fairly simple. WRONG. The textbook is utterly boring and impossible to deal with. There were numerous problems with the website (Thomson Now) and you have to either buy a book with the code ($100+) or buy the code ($54) just to access the site. Doesn't send reminders about when things are due.
dude terrible teacher!! took him online and it was the worst decision i ever made he makes everything due at a certain time not date TIME if you're a minute late he won't accept it. if you talk 2 him hell be nice but when it comes to your grade he really wouldn't give a rats ass

Unhelpful. The entire class is based off of group projects and group work, and I do not believe in group work for college students (schedules, jobs, ect.) Would not allow people to work alone and my grade suffered due to bad group.

If you have you are more than just a student with no life (meaning no work, family, or other responsibilities) to worry about, do not take this class! Your grade revolves heavily around group work. A lot of heavy reading. Zooms through lectures. Almost always late to class. Bad communication with class in terms of due dates & announcements.
abnormal psyc is such an interesting topic and this is not the guy to take it with. He is the most boring human alive. his tests are incredibly hard, i'm at UCSC and i have had nothing like it. He is retarded dont take him
Prof Jackson is a great asset to Skyline. It's shameful to want to waste your time at any college by taking easy classes where you don't learn anything. He's not an easy "A"...but I don't know one smart person who wants an easy "A". If you take his class and put the effort in, you will leave feeling accomplished...definitely not a waste of time.
He is a hard teacher, but a good one. If you want an easy (A) don't take him, he makes you work for your grade, and you get what you deserve. He may be a little absent minded, but if you pay attention and work hard you will get a good grade because he sees you try and will grade accordingly.Only students who are serious should take his class.
He is not a good professor. This class is kind of ridiculous. His tests are not based on his lectures and he doesnt lecture the book but still expects you to completely understand it. his class in unclear and unhelpful. i liked psychology before this but now i would rather not take another class. you would be smart to take a different professor.
Probably the worst teacher I have ever had. He does not respond to e-mails, ever. Not helpful at all. Does not give you due dates until an assignment is due, we're talking one day's notice. I took him online and sometimes wouldn't hear from him for a week. The material isn't tough, but dealing with him is a headache! WTF Dr. J, get it together!

Definitely one of the hardest classes I've ever taken. However, I don't regret his class at all. I got a c but felt like I learned an A's worth of material. I will never forget what I learned in his class, even though it was very challenging. Note taking was crazy but the rest of lectures were always good.
Tests are based off the textbook completely. His lectures are hard to understand and he doesn't really "teach". Try a different teacher if you want to really learn.
This teacher is ridiculous.He pretends to be smart and keeps his hierarchy of a proud professor.This teacher does not even fully understand material himself.He is a fail in teaching.His notes are completely worthless, dont bother taking them. There have been several corrections made on quiz by students and may still be imperfect.(Do not recommend )
horrible! ive never had such a horrible teacher at skyline. He assigns you one thing and then the day it is due asks for something totally different and expects you to figure assignments out on your own. And for his tests you can study all you want but it doesnt matter because the majority of the test is stuff he never went over
He's pretty chill. I like Dr. J. He offers a lot of extra credit. Our class is pretty... slow in the head. Ha Ha. He doesn't really teach =/ Majority of the class time he just throws his frustration at our class that we don't read the chapters that are assigned.. Thank god I have my old psych notes from H.S or I'd be F-ED.
He's a cool guy but his teaching skills could use some work. His lectures arent really helpful and his tests have questions that werent really talked about in class.
You can do well in this class if you read the chapters for quizzes and tests and commit key terms to memory. His lectures are scattered and won't be a huge help with test preparation. Do the readings; quizzes are only 10 points so they're always tough. A nice guy, but not the best class experience you'll have. Always late to class as well! :(
I WOULDNT SUGGEST THIS TEACHER FOR ANYBODY. HIS TESTS ARE THINGS THAT HE NEVER GOES OVER IN CLASS. A LOT OF HIS LECTURES ARE POINTLESS. MORE THAN HALF OF THE CLASS DROPPED BY THE END OF THE SEMESTER.

He is a good teacher. He helps me out when I didn't get a good grade. He made me do a very easy extra credit to pass his class.

Great guy but is very hard give a lot of extra credit and make up but its really hard i wouldn't recommend this teacher.
Professor Jackson is an easy A, I had too many absences to get it, but otherwise, awesome course. He has a lot of open office time. His class is Afrocentric, so perfect for anyone who wants to learn true US History, ugly and pretty. He made Psychology interesting, which is an impossible feat. He is my 2nd fave, period.
Dr. J is one of the best professors I have ever had. I went to NYU and paid thousand more but Dr. J shows up because he loves what he does and he loves his students. Sometimes his time is spread too thin and everyone wants to talk to him so you have to send him several emails or show up at his office if you need to talk to him or have him respond
Loved his personality right off the bat, but sadly he does not know how to teach. If you are willing to self teach yourself everything off the textbook then I guess you'll do fine. The class itself is pointless.
The semester starts seeming as if it will be an easy class. This is not the case as the semester progresses. He is continuously late to class.He doesn't clarify what chapter we are currently working on. He is inconsistent with due dates and assignments.He changes requirements the day before it is due. Wow... This professor is always late and seams to not have his crap together. He goes off on useless tangents that wastes time and puts us further away from the syllabus. The textbook is great when you know what chapter you're supposed to be on, but that's rare since he doesn't really teach. Horrible lectures... doens't know how to teach.

I like him personally,but as a professor, it's hard to say he is a 'good' professor. His classes are easy, but test is not easy, you need to STUDY. His class has lots of discussion, so you need to read a book and need to do 'self-studying' before the class if you want to get A and if you want to really LEARN something from his class.

I loved Early Chilhood education, but taking this class completely changed my mind. I DO NOT RECOMEND this teacher at all! So confusing, and unclear. You never know the homework, or what he is asking of you. Does not know how to teach and goes off topic about irrelevant things. BIG MISTAKE
I don't know what all these posts are talking about. Professor Jackson is a great teacher who uses examples from his clinical practice, current events, and other kinds of real-life examples of concepts from the reading. Class would be boring if I had to listen to material I already read. Expect tons of extra credit, chapter quizzes, and groups.
Gets off topic sometimes, but very fun class. Very interesting and he gave out A LOT of extra credit opportunities.
First day seems like it will be a fun class but soon after you realize it won't be. It's not clear which chapter you are on and he goes off topic and lectures on things that have nothing to do with the book. The highest midterm grade in all of his psych classes was 64%. Most of the material must be self taught and still it is hard to pass.
Glad I wasn't the only one who found this guy absolutely horrible. The guy just fakes his way through each lecture it seems. Classic example of someone pretending to be smart. Seems like a nice guy, but he's actually really defensive when asked simple questions (takes it as being challenged. Do not take this guy.
Don't take the class unless you wanna read lotta books, and make notes just to figure out that what he said in class has nothing to do with anything. Then he got some fast quiz that ends in 2 minutes, and you get some small clues to confuse it because he puts one word to match to another confusing word for 20 questions in 2 mins!!!
If you don't like reading this isn't the class for you. Even though we didn't have homework if you didn't do your reading he would spend half the class asking questions about the reading that usually no one did. I suggest you do all the extra-credit assignments because the tests are super hard.

I thought for sure i was going to pass considering there were only ten people left by the end of the semester. i did all the extra credit. Very unclear and you never know the exact details of homework or projects Lectures are winged and he reads directly off the powerpoint. No explanations of anything. HIGHLY don't recommend this class or teacher.
Jackson is the worst teacher you will ever have. DO NOT take this class I'm warning you now. I am a really good student and am not used to failing classes but passing this one was impossible. He expects you to read 4 chapters in 1 week and be prepared to test on them. Class never starts on time. He even walked out in the middle of a presentation.
Read the textbook, at least skim the summaries before the quiz and you'll probably pass. Instructions for assignments are unclear, even if you ask him for clarification. Extra credit is available. He has a tendency to pick on people. Inconsistent with taking attendance. Lectures are going through slides about the chapter. Would not take him again.

He made me hate the subject of psychology. That was my major and now I hate it so much idk what to do. His class is a disgrace to the subject of psychology. Do not take him I'm warning you now! Good Professor. Professor Jackson does give a lot of reading, but don't let it discourage you. Everything does tie together by the end of the semester. Professor Jackson teaches you how to think on your own.
If you can't read the book on your own, then you WILL NOT pass the testsquizzes (even if they are multiple choice). Lecturespowerpoints are clear, but definitely do not cover enough of the expected matter. Expect a lot of group work. Don't expect to understand instructions for projects, including due dates, guidelines and grading.

Grade is 100% based on Quizzes and Tests. I'm an A student but I found this class extremely tough. Even though there were extra credit opportunities, it doesn't help with the low scores everyone gets on his exams. Expect to read a lot in his class. If you get 6 absences he will drop you from his class.

I don't recommend you to take this class. He is not a considerate person and he doesn't really care about the students' situations. Also, he doesn't keep his words about the credits, very unorganized and even loses the students notes. I should have check ratemyprof first but now, I have completely lost interest in my favorite subject.
He goes through the slides really fast and you barely finish writing whats on it. The stuff he tests you on doesn't even seem like he went over it in class. He expects you to read every single chapter in the book. They're really long chapters too.
Do NOT take this Professor. He is unorganized!!! If you have any challenges he is not the professor for you. Group projects, expensive book. The lectures do not connect with the reading, and there is a lot of reading. Does not keep his word on grading, OVERALL BAD CLASS and BAD INSTRUCTOR.
Not that many tests or homework but THE QUIZZES!!!! OMG be ready for the quizzes! There are 10 questions each and are very confusing! but he does let you retake the quiz if you got a score 3 or above. He gives a lot of extra credit and I recommend doing ALL of it! YOU NEED THE EXTRA CREDIT! Also keep up with reading or you will be a lost soul!!!!!
I ABHOR IT! His lectures go by WAY TOO FAST. You don't have time to take notes. Stupid Group Projects. He does a great deal of favoritism and treats you like a stupid dog. But he does give away half of the Final exam questions a week before the Final to help you. But his Quizzes are almost irrelevant to the lectures. Go TO A SI IF YOU HAVE ONE!
Professor Jackson is an interesting character. He's very condescending toward students and will have no sympathy for you (not that you should expect any at this point). You have to write a psychological analysis of a child but you can do it in a group but let me tell you that will not help. They only thing that helped was the extra credit.
For the first week or two of class I'd sit all the way at the top in the corner and to avoid attention. Prof. Jackson let me get away with it for a little while and then he called me out on it. He's an excellent professor, class can be a bit all over the place but if you stick it out it pays off and you'll leave feeling better about yourself.
He makes it very clear that he is "not here to make any friends" (his own words). It is very apparent that he does not care at all whatsoever for his students. His teaching style is completely unorganized and this is coming from a non-biased point of view. Please do NOT consider this professor or you'll regret it completely...

He is lecture heavy &what he talks about is interesting but doesn't end up relating to any of the tests/finals. I worked very hard to get a C. I sent emails, went to office hours, and took detailed notes to study. Very unorganized and vague with everything.
He lectures... constantly. And there is so much reading. So, so much reading. Also, the quizzes are difficult and what he tells you will be on them is not accurate. Not a bad guy, just a bad class. Do not take this class unless you want to spend all your time on it. Learned some but most of class withdrew or could not pass.

Most of my class dropped it. Gve practice quizzes, told us to study them, then had the regular quizzes be 10x harder. Do not take his class!
I have never withdrawn from a class before Dr. Jackson. Not only were his tests hard, he was also unhelpful and mean if you tried to contact him outside of class. Mots of my class dropped. Even though he is knowledgeable and has cool stories, would not recommend.
Throughout my whole academic carrier I have never experienced such a terrible professor. He was very heavy on group projects, after a while he would really lack on giving us a deadline for the projects. He also was terrible about posting assignments on web smart & thought putting review notes on web smart was "unnecessary". DON'T take his class!
Dr. Jackson is more of a rattler then an actual college professor. He keeps rambling on and going on random tangents and then expects the class to suddenly know what he is talking about. On our most recent midterm, i received the highest grade, which was a 66% with no curving. As a teacher, how can you justify a class average of 43%?
Personally, I hate group projects and he makes all projects group projects. It seems like he believes that his class is the only one we have. Feels like an independent study course. Rather take an online Psych class.

He is very clear with all of the work that needs to get done by the end of the semester, and he is a very easy grader. Since it is an online class, what he did was outline everything that was due by the end of the semester and its due dates. The only thing I do not like about him, is that he is not too nice with responding to emails but minor thing
It's possible to get an A but it requires effort and hard work. Reading the textbook and slides (from bvt lab) is a must. It's difficult to understand his own slides. Grades depend on 6 (really 4) group projects, 2 quizzes, midterm, and final (all multiple choice). He's open to extending due dates. Seize all the extra credit opportunities
the worst professor i have ever had. more than half the class dropped. i managed to get an A barely and i studied for that class more than any other. i thought the reviews of him were just exaggerated. nope. i only took him because i registered late, if possible dont take him listen to the reviews trust me.
This teacher likes to lecture. If you are not an auditory learner this isnt the class for you. He talks every single class, the entire class time. There is a lot to read and a lot of quizzes/tests. Study, hard! He grades really hard.
Great person. Can't be lazy in this class. Those who really worked and applied themselves were fine with A's. He's funny and has a good relationship with the kids who work hard.

Everyone withdrew. It was so bad. I only passed with an A because I devoted hours to studying and even then, the attendance is the reason it went up that high. All he does is lecture. I really recommend taking Porter instead, shes much more understanding and easier
This has to be the worst instructor Ive ever had. 1 out of 5 emails to him get replies. A group project in an online class worded sloppily and misleading. Massive content to learn w/ less than 40 seconds to answer questions on quiz and midterms. There was xtra credit in this class but w/out it expect to get a C at best. Completely unprofessional.
I only passed this class bc we were allowed to choose our groupmates at the end of the sem and bc most of his test Qs were found in quizlet. Hated it when he kept on telling us to read the book, then none of his lectures will be in the pop quiz nor the midterms. WASTE OF TIME REVIEWING. Good thing he gives extra credit or else I would've failed.
Avoid this professor at all costs!! His lectures are unclear and assigns lots of readings/videos. His deadlines are unclear and he'll often post something a day before it's due. Even if you do the readings his test questions are confusing. Do yourself a favor and look for a better professor at a different college!

I don't understand all of the bad reviews. I took this class online and while yes, the tests are difficult and you don't have much time to complete them, he is very understanding and obviously cares for his students. He is a serious person but once you get to know him he's actually very nice and actually even super funny. Hard class-great professor
Took his online Psyc220 class and though it was asynchronous, Dr. Jackson created detailed and lengthy lectures for each unit every week. His tests were simple if you went through the material and lectures. The class is nothing like people described it below, it was structured for success.
