Metaphysics is a tough class no matter who teaches it, so don't be turned off by some of my ratings. Tony was a big sweetheart who knows A LOT about his field. He always helped me and I think he's just dreamy.
very sweet and knowledgeable man. he's clear, intelligent, funny, slightly timid and made class an all around joy. pay attention, try to take just a bit of interest in the class and you'll do fine, if not very well.
He's just great - the poor guy gave us notes for EVERY single lecture. He is amazing at explaining the reasoning behind court decisions and that's probably why I got a great grade in philosophy. Kinda cute in a professor kinda way :)
Shame he doesn't teach more courses--brilliant!
Prof. Kostroman is a good professor; he takes a great interest in his subject, although sometimes a few things aren't clear. Asking after class usually clears things up It's a bit difficult to get in touch with him outside of class, since you have to make an appointment - he types really slowly! It's a miracle he gives us lecture notes each week
Tony is very approachable and easy to study with. He always comes to class prepared and ready to engage in a great lecture and class discussion. Not only is he a very respectable prof, he is amazing as a person in his way of relating to students. His style is unique and successful. His passion for his topic of lecture shines through in every class.
awesome i love him...hes my favorite teacher of all time
Fanstatic prof!! He teaches tough material that makes you wan to think and want to cometo class every week. He will try and help you in the bes t way he can. I highly recomend taking one of his classes.
Such a sweet man, he is also pretty clear during his lectures and wants everyone to do well. So nice! And has a Ben Gibbard vibe going on.
VERY nice professor, his tests are quite easy, i definately reccomend taking this modes, especially if you took math in high school, it's a joke, i went to class once a month and got an A. He gives lecture notes and the textbook is extremely useful. He's a great guy if you ever need help he's extremely understanding and really tries to be funny :)
Not a hard course. Nice professor. He was interested in our feedback in how we found his lessons, tests, etc. Very approachable.
Great prof!! He's so nice and is actually funny at times. Very personable and approachable. He made some pretty confusing stuff...less confusing. Really cleared up some difficult concepts for me. I absolutely recommend taking this modes. If you're gona do hypothetical syllogisms anyway, you might as well do them with him!
Subject was like math with no math involved. As long as you did your homework and made sure you understood, you could get an A no problem. Prof was always making sure we understood, answering the repetitive or stupid questions, and asking us how we were finding the topics covered.
This is the best professor in the world! He was so nice and sweet. He was always going out of his way to help students understand and he was even willing to come to the campus on his day off for extra help sessions. It is truly a shame that he doesn't teach anymore courses cause if every professor was like him, students wouldn't be as stressed out!
Everything your highschool teachers warn you a professor will not be: extremely friendly, willing to go out of his way to help you, crystal clear in his lecture style, incredibly witty, hardworking...the list goes on an on! What I admire most about him is that he never lets a student get left behind. He is determined to reach EVERY student.
Absolutely amazing... enough said!
I could not believe how incredible this prof is, he goes out of his way to ensure that students understand the content and makes the class interesting and easy to understand. Its a shame there aren't more professors like him!
Great Prof. He is so nice, helpful and interesting. He loves philosophy. He is so passionate. Terrific Prof, He will do anything to help his students learn. He could talk about philosophy forever.
Amaaaazing professor! Truly, he is the best prof I have EVER had in any course and I'm about to graduate! You have to take a genEd at York, and one of them is MODR, if you take it and you get him as a prof...half the battle is already done, trust me, stick to the course, you won't regret it with a professor like him always there to help you!!!
Prof. Kostroman works hard to make sure everyone's on board; he takes however long is needed to make sure everyone understands. Also he wears fantastic sweaters.
Amazing Prof. Hands down the most approachable and helpful teacher I have ever had. You can tell he genuinely loves what he is teaching, and he genuinely cares for his students. The exact model of what you hope a prof will be! And yes, his sweaters are by far the most fun I've seen.
Incredible Prof. Passionate and helpful. Also extremely patient
one of the best profs at york. geeky joker, passionate, genius, genuine, helpful. none of that intellectual snobbery BS. gives you the lecture notes through moodle so you can just sit back and get your mind blown. no exams, alleluia! lots of sci/psych and would highly recommend if you need a challenge.
Should be canonized immediately: Saint Kostroman. He is flexible, helpful, makes learning easy (tho the subject matter is intense), makes it fun and gives extensive, thoughtful comments on your papers. He is human -not a bureaucratic professor machine with deadlines- a truly rare gem.
I love him and he is the best professor I have ever had. He deserves a medal for being so awesome. There is nothing negative about kostroman and I strongly recommend everyone takes his course, even if you're not interested in philosophy. He makes class worth going to.
Tony is one of the best professors I think I will ever have. He genuinely cares about his students, and is extremely accomadating. He is always willing to help students outside of class, and is hilarious. He makes VERY dry material interesting, and makes taking this GenEd worth it. All notes are premade on moodle, too. AWESOME.
amazing prof, his class is very itneresting and makes you think differently. He is so sweet and understanding, nicest, and cutest prof at york! def recommend his class. >> ps. you still gotta work hard to gain the marks!
I love this class. Lecture notes are given out each week(100X better than the textbook) This prof is helpful and cares about people. His tests are a bit tricky, for a good reason: "To separate the A students from the Bs." He is upbeat and motivated; always prepared to give an exciting lecture. Intellectal by nature. His aura is incredible.
The prototype of what a professor ought to be like. One of the things that standout about Professor Kostroman is that he seems to sincerely care whether the students understand the concepts. Pretty funny as well.
He is a cool dude. I'm not gonna lie; Logic is not easy for everyone. But this prof gives amazing lectures and he is willing to go out of of his way to help his students. You will NEVER find another prof as amazing, intellectual and kind as him. ;)
Good prof, extremely approachable. He takes the time to know every students name. Class itself can be confusing and dry but he tries to make it interesting.
I'm still shocked that he remembers pretty much everyone's name in the class. He's amazing! I love that he's funny, helpful, approachable, understanding, and incredibly nice. I couldn't ask for a better logic prof. If it wasn't for him I'm sure I'd pretty much hate attending that class.
Best Prof
he's the best prof ever!! he presents all the materials very clearly
Best Prof Ever! Helpful. Approachable. Gives many practice sheets, all of which are taken up in class. Tries to memorize students names. "When it rains the streets are wet" lol. Fun logic class.
explained the readings, encouraged debate and discussion, which turned out to be very interesting and insightful and in turn helped to explain the themes and ideas in the readings and course.
Prof. Kostroman thought the second half of PHIL 2640. His crystal clear explanations made Predicate and Relational Predicate Logic so much enjoyable and understandable. Would love to take this course again. Attendance is mandatory. Doing homework is a must. Overall, a nice course and Prof. Definitely recommended for Philosophy majors and others.
He is an amazing teacher both in class and in extra help sessions. He was extremely clear and open to answering all questions. He offered extra help sessions multiple times, always staying for at least 3-4 hours even when he was sick. It is clear that he really cares about his students and their work. It was a hard course but he made it enjoyable.
Professor Kostroman is one of the nicest profs I've had so far. He also did an admirable job of making logic semi interesting. His lectures are clear and comprehensive and he will patiently answer any and all questions you may have. He also goes out of his way to help students on his own time. Truly one of the most caring professors out there.
He is simply THE BEST PROF out there! Kindest, understanding, intellectual, funny and always willing to go an extra mile to help his students. You won't find another prof like him!
Great Prof. if you are into philosophy or logic; the course is a bit hard if you are not though.
If you've never taken philosophy before, i would not recommend taking it with this teacher. He is hard to follow during lectures, he wants you to ask question but your question will be "Could you repeat the whole lecture?" The teacher is very respectable, has a great personality, always there for the student, but it can he can be hard to follow.
Tony was a great, friendly prof. He's kinda nerdy which is really cute and funny but he explains things well. Philosophy can be confusing sometimes and he makes it more palatable through analogies and examples as well as diagrams. He learns everyone's name in the class and is a fair marker.
Professor Kostroman is a machine. The quantity and quality of his notes and lectures respectively allow a student to grasp the topics at hand. However, one must attend class, the content is none the less weighty. If a student is lost, he is always willing to take the time to explain. I left his class enlightened and far less bias about the mind.
Four tests with basic materials that are all extensively covered in class. Fair marker and gives half marks when deserved. Really great guy and open to questions and extra help!
Students LOVE him! If you do all your homework and readings you might find he spends too much time explaining concepts but if not he takes the time to thoroughly explain everything, ensure everyone understands and to answer questions. No question is honestly too stupid to him. He answers all questions in depth. Takes up all tests.
Amazing prof!!! So nice! Lectures can be long.. but he is aware of that and tries to make it as interesting as possible or make it go faster. Tough class but he always manages to help students get the best grade possible! He is always willing to go out of his way to help a student out. Definitely take a class with him! You won't regret it
This guy is probably in the top 5 best prof in all of Glendon. I really don't like philosophy but Tony made it really interesting and our in class discussions were some of the most fun I've had in any course. Excellent guy as well, very kind, funny, intelligent and a fair marker with specific criteria and is always there for aspiring students.
Amazing prof. Probably one of the best York has to offer. Makes difficult material palatable and interesting.
Fantastic professor, probably the best professor I've ever had or ever will have. Really thoughtful and open minded, he genuinely cares about you! Would definitely take a class with him again.
Tony is by far the best prof I ever had at Glendon. He makes his lectures very engaging even if the subject isn't. He's a fair grader and he's always available during his office hours, great sweaters. However, most of all, he was the single most caring and personally attentive prof I've ever had. The Glendon experience isn't complete without Tony.
one of the best profs I've had. He does a really good job of making sure everything is explained well, he is a very fair marker and will give marks just for showing that you tried. He offers extra class help, he has office hours, he even pushed back the test. The content is not easy, but if you do the homework and attend class you'll do fine.
Wonderful professor. Incredibly passionate about the material and caring towards his students. Everyone loves him, even if the course material was difficult for them, they still adore him. I don't think he realises how much everyone appreciates and loves him- as he's very smart & caring. But he puts himself down a lot. He deserves so much more.
Kostroman is a great prof who really really cares about his students. The course material isn't very easy but he does a good job at explaining it. He is very clear about what he expects from his students and I really appriciate the handout he gave in regards to the structure of the test that we had. It even include tips on how to do well.
Tony is a great prof and a great guy!!
His intro course is broad, but he shows an excellent handle on the material. He's willing to clarify and involve the class at any time. His lecture notes can help you a lot if you have trouble with the readings, and he gives generous grades on the papers as long as you show you can think and present an argument. Brilliant man.
Good prof. Clear lectures, helpful at explaining the formulas and such. Willing to slow down if needed. Participation helps because if you get it wrong you learn from it. Awesome person.
Consists of 4 tests 25% each. Attendance isn't factored into your grade so it doesn't matter if you show up. I came to every lecture and did the hw. He gives lots of it because it's not something you can memorize, it takes practice to develop the skill. Would never take again as this was very difficult for me but Tony is the ONLY reason I got an A!
Literally one of the best profs at Glendon, he is SO patient, funny, kind and caring and really wants the best for his students. Lectures are heavy but if you do your homework before class they are a lot more interesting. I've learnt so much in this course with him. Most of all I appreciate his authenticity and kindness, he always has good intentio
He is incredibly intelligent, humble, and comprehensive. Absolute privilege.
He was very understanding and the lectures were really good prep for the exam. The homework was also good practice and very manageable.
Professor Kostroman is one of the top professors I have had at York (I have taken a few classes with him up to now). He is very knowledgeable. His lectures are a gem in regards to material and delivery. As a person, he is kind and caring towards his students. Course difficulty is as it should be, not too hard and not too easy. In short, he is A+!
Prof Kostroman is a really kind dude, really easy on deadlines. If you need an extension he'll usually grant them. Idk if this is his first online class but he seems to be pretty good. Ive had him for 2 courses and both are reliant on 3-4 essays with no exams. He responds quick to emails
An absolute legend, nothing more to say.
Best professor ever!
MODR 1711 became my favourite course because of how easy-going and inclusive professor Kostroman is. He is passionate and enthusiastic which was what mainly made me like the course. He is accessible and understanding when it comets deadlines which I appreciate. Nothing but positive thoughts about him. Best prof truly!
Very knowledgeable. Amazing lectures, never a boring moment. You will enjoy his class.
I took three classes with this angel. He is kind, funny, knowledgeable, and very flexible. I wish he were a little less self-deprecating because he was easily one of the best professors I had in undergrad. If there were more people like Tony K teaching in universities, they'd become cathedrals. Read, engage, question. Three essays, no exam.
Simply wonderful, take his course if you can
Tony is a very good professor who cares about his students. He explains concepts well and is a joy to learn from
love my man T.K
Tk is the best, undoubtedly. He's truly a phenomenal prof., super understanding, very passionate about the material, and is great at sharing well-founded knowledge in an effective way. His lectures are well crafted he isn't afraid to show personality. We need more profs like him. This guy deserves more than a raise &every uni student deserves a Tk
Love TK!! He was one of my favourite profs and he really made his lectures interesting
Tony is a great Prof, he is a very enthusiastic lecturer so I always felt excited in his classes. He goes out of his way to make notes for all the readings, which is incredibly helpful. He is not a particularly hard grader, it is incredibly easy to get a 70-79, but to get 80's and above is challenging, you will have to put in the work.
Just another 5/5 in the sea of 5s. Tony is one of a kind, not much more to say that others haven't said already.
This professor is great - he will go over a question/problem as many times as someone needs it and give you as many tools/methods as possible for working with the course material. However, it was just very hard for me, my mental health sucked, and I got lazy. Get ready to read and practice for hours. Ask questions - talk to him. He's there for you
What a sweetheart! Really cares about his students and does his best to make sure we succeed in the course. He really likes what he does and teaches in a fun and appealing way. You wont want to miss class when you take it with him. Also, he is very smart, I learned alot from him over the past year. Highly recommend you take it with him.
Amazing prof! Makes the time and efforts of students worthwhile. Stress-busting and refreshing lectures. Strongly recommended.
This prof is literally the best teacher I've had, from grade 1 elementary to 4th year university. Tonys the sweetest, nicest and kindest prof & is very understanding. He is an easy grader, he makes it a bit easier on you so you have the drive and motivation to ACTUALLY succeed. He will turn you into a real A+ student! Amazing interesting lectures!
Tony Kostroman is the best professor and teacher I have met in my entire life. He aims to make students understand rather than just giving out the information. Just be an active listener and also answer the questions he asked during lectures. BTW the nurse in the example is a He.
10/10 rating, best professor i've ever had. very nice, caring and understanding. REALLY good at teaching and making difficult things seem easy
I have never had a better professor than Tony, I took 3 of his courses during my BA and he is absolutely wonderful. Best human being + amazing professor. You'd be lucky to meet him and learn from him. I ADORE Tony. I even took a course after graduation just to continue learning more logic from him. He is truly the best.
I was considering dropping out. He sent me an email saying he missed me in class. I am no longer considering dropping out.
Dr. Kostroman has been incredibly helpful and accommodating. He is genuinely very caring and is there for you, as he wants you to succeed. He will go above and beyond to ensure that you understand the material as he is passionate about what he teaches. He responds to emails promptly in a very encouraging and motivating manner.
AMAZING PROF! He is so good and you can tell he really cares. I struggled a bit in this class and he always took extra time to help me outside of class and his office hours. He asks a lot of questions to the class to ensure we understand. He will gladly spend extra time on something even if only one person doesn't understand. He is also so funny!
Great prof but this class is a lot more homework than expected but the homework is practice for test. He's funny and a bit jittery at times, and is available outside of class. Sometimes he does talk for a bit too long but it's not too bad. His teaching style isn't really for me but he's a good prof in general.
TK is the best, super fun prof. His thought examples always helped me understand key concepts. Barely had to do any work in the class besides show up (you will understand the material way better compared to reading it.)
Tony Kostroman is genuinely one of the best professors I've had at Glendon. He is kind, funny, actually makes his lectures interesting, and prepares you well for tests. He's very smart and passionate about what he's teaching. I've never taken a logic class before, but his classes left me wanting to learn more and more. I would 100% recommended him.
my favourite prof at glendon! some of the philosophy of freedom of determinism and the mind is a bit more difficult to grasp but he is very accessible to his students to help out. very passionate about what he teaches and made me fall in love with the subject!
Most understanding professor I've met.
best teacher ever hes so sweet and genuinely cares.
sweet man, if u take notes in class you'll do well - good grader for essays, a bit less with in-person tests, but overall good experience
