Tony is one of the most impactful professors I have had at Western. His class was mind-bending and he makes you think in a completely different way than you are used to. The lectures had interesting discussions and fun/cool videos. If you are taking English 202 definitely take it with him.

I've taken 2 of Tony's classes. Awesome guy. You can tell that he teaches because he wants to enlighten young minds, more so than create hoops to jump through to get a degree. I walked away from his classes with a new perspective on life. Embrace the weird and be skeptical. You will do well in his class.

Honestly an amazing dude overall. He was hilarious, engaging and respectful. He understood that students are humans, too and was super lax about due dates and assignments. Yes, his assignments don't have great rubrics but I think the beauty of his English classes is just that - he grades on whether or not YOU are able to find the answer.

I took Writing About Lit with Tony my first quarter at Western and felt at first like all we were doing in class and in our papers was throwing "stuff" against the wall to see what would stick. In retrospect, his style really helped me see how words, ideas, and concepts in literature both reflect and influence society and culture. Good prof.

You dont need to buy the books- save for class discussion you literally dont need them for ANY assignments. Youre only graded on a midterm (essay) and a final project. If you try to be as weird and philosophical as possible, youll pass them. He has no structure, no real grading criteria. It was an easy A, which was the only saving factor.

I agree that the books aren't a necessity, especially if you're tight on cash. However, he's a good teacher. The class objectives will be obscure at times, but just go to his office hours and talk to him. His thing is that he wants you to think about how the project should be, and not him telling you what to do. Graded on midterm and final project.

This professor was amazing! He did an amazing job of making students feel comfortable when they would share their opinion or asking deep questions about a book or film we would read. He grades lightly which I found helpful because picking up the deeper meaning of a book or film came as a struggle to me. He pushes the student to thing more deep.

He literally does not teach you anything. You don't need the books except for a close reading assignment and a "provocation" but most of the texts are available online and if they are not you can find them in the library.
