Very informative. She looks at more than just one interpretation of texts.
wonderful, brilliant, inspiring, fun professor
Very fun, open, and insightful. Very open, democratic style of running class. I will not forget this teacher.
Awesome teacher, makes learning fun, great lectures, easy tests, 2 papers and journal responses, funny and interesting, wants your opinion more than she wants to tell you her, take her if you can!!!
She is so real with her students and treats us as indiviual's with powerful opinions, and she never tries to discount an interpretation if there's a good cause for it. She puts a lot of effort into the class' overall comprehension-she's funny as hell too.
very funny. for english lit you could get WAY worse than her.
Her class is definately not boring, but it is also a bit difficult to get an A. Reading all of the assigned reading doesn't guarentee an A, you have to be super good at interpreting texts in a unique way, if you are, this is a good class.
Cummings choose the best books to teach. She loves new and crazy interpretations of the text. Take her!!
interesting lady but a great teacher. You have to go to class but it is interesting. It is hard to get an A because she expects a lot of effort out of her students but I would recommend taking her because class is never boring...lots of discussion groups!
Sarcastic and funny but tough.
professor cummings is hilarious. she doesn't hold back and has very interesting views on literature and life in general. very clever and witty. my favorite professor so far!
She really enjoys what she teaches. Discussion groups can get boring, but she gives really good insight. She is very easy to talk to. Funny and interesting also. It's also cool that she has lived all over the world.
Always wore black to class. Endulges way too much into her private life. Not sure if her jokes are seriosu or not. Lots of reading for so far, no reason. Has a passion for literature which is good but critical if you don't. Could do worse than her.
She's kinda nutty, but really fun. If you're into literature it's a great class. If not you'll probably be bored. A few papers but nothing to really sweat about. I'd recommend her.
Second time I've worked with professor cummings. Best professor ever and would recommend to anyone who has a passion for literature
prof. cummings is the best teacher at SDSU. period. her sensitivity combined with her stunning intellect make for a class that you will simply never forget. her role in the english dept. is WOEFULLY small. if they have half the brain they claim to they'll remedy this situation very soon.
great. very engaging and leads class in interesting and meaningful discussions. expects a lot of input and insight. She was very inspiring to me. Challenging, but inspiring!
Nice teacher...fairly easy class
Do not take... Or take for credit no credit.... Lectures are so boring she reads the whole thing from a paper that she wrote....jokes included... stay away
Horrible teacher! Eng 220 is a GE and she teaches it like a grad. level class, reads lecture from a paper and is the most boring class i've ever taken
unorganized, unclear, tshe NEVER has an introduction, and is NOT funny. possibly the worst class i've ever taken at sdsu. she should be a daycare worker instead of a professor. i think she writes fate ratings for herself on ratemyprofessor. PS she is definitley not hot, so disregard any chili peppers
Worst teacher ever. I used to like English, she made english exausting. Do not take her its the hardest class I have ever taken for English.

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE teacher. Lectures are read off as fast as possible, not considerate of whether shes going to fast. DO NOT be fooled by the previouse good ratings shes got, i found out the hard way. She should not be teaching at all!!!! Your better of lacking 3 units than taking her class no joke.I didnt exagerate anything i said about her.
lets just say, if she was a gym teacher, everyone would be obese and dying at the end of the course. she really is that bad, no joke. and she has disgusting ankles
worst professor in sdsu history. must have done someone to have been hired
This class was desinged as a big lecture with break-out sessions with different T.A.s. Tracy speaks way too fast, you have to look in the dictionary to understand the essay prompts, and exams are difficult. T.A.s weren't helpful either, you. It was an unfair class because some people had really easy T.A.s and other didn't. Overall take this class w
Does she even know that in her job she is supposed to teach something? highly doubtful. Everything said in the lecture makes no sense, its almost as if she just makes stuff up. Horrible, horrible professor, but dont just take my word for it.
Professor Cummings is an excellent teacher. She really knows her subject and can clearly explain the readings in a way you can understand. Her tests aren't that easy but they are passable. She does sometimes start cursing in the middle of lecture or go off on a tangent. Otherwise a very good professor.
Her midterm and final are horrible: four pages, on each page is one quote from a text we read in class (we read about 25 different poems, books, and short stories). Identify the author, who said it, the reason behind it, its significance, where it falls in the text, and what does it mean. One of the quotes I got: "But why." I got a B+ in the class.
I am pretty sure she is crazy. Talks so much about absolutely nothing. She taught me nothing. Midterm and final are HARD and the papers are difficult and unclear. Don't take it.
Not an easy A at all...way too hard for a GE. She thinks that everyone is an english major. Grading all depends on your TA except they base everything off her and grade really harshly. I put a lot of effort into this class and got a B-. If you get stuck with her, make sure you e-mail her with lots of questins and then everything will make sense
very hard class. do not take this class with her!

This was one of the most boring classes ever!! Everyone would get up to leave in the middle of it. The tests are impossible: having to identify a quote when we've read like 25 different things. Do not take this class with her!
I got an A on the first test, I tried my friends first test and missed all of them...so depending on the test and what you study depends on how you do...its a crap shoot. Plus she's crazy, always talking about the metaphysically point of view...who gives a f&*%?

Don't take this class if you don't like to read. I love to read, so I did well. If you are interested in good lit, take the class. Lectures are boring, but you need the notes to write your papers and answer test questions. participate in your section and it helps. tests depend on which version you get.
you have to read 7 plays and write a 1 page paper on each of them. you can listen to the plays in the library if you dont like to read. she is way cool and approachable and is willing to organize class outings to see the plays you read in her class. she is a lot of fun and open minded. this has nothing to do with the class but she has great****.
read 7 plays and 7 articles, and respond to them (approx 1 pg. do it, it's 20% of grade) 1 creative project(20%), 1 short essay (3-5pg)(20%) and 1 long essay (5-8pg)(20%). takes attendance and particpation is 20% of grade. mostly lecture/discussion, she's pretty funny, and provides insight to shakespeare the man.
write a few essays, read a few short stories, a little class discussion, and then you get an A. shes awsome and is there for her students in any way possible and shes got great tatters.
This class was pretty easy. All you have to do is write journal entries and two essays. Not the most easy class, but pretty easy.
she's great!!! love her humor, cusses in class. coo chick!
Amazing prof. Great sense of humor, willing to go the extra mile for you. She really cares about her students and it shows. She really appreciates it when you work hard in her class. But it is not a hard class. One of my favorite professors. Just an adorable lady!!!!! Highly recommended.
Extremely helpful and passionate about the subject (Shakespeare). This is not a piece of cake class and there is a lot of writing. Great thing is, she enjoys unique essays, rather than 'what she wants to hear'. Keep your shiz unique and it's no problem. (Do all the journals)
If you can't handle reading a book maybe you should take an RWS class instead. BUT if you are up to reading a little Cummings is there to help you unlock the meaning of some very interesting and complex novels. She's not hard if you give it a try. I never liked a single English class before this one! She's forgiving, deep and a great prof.
This class is very unconventional and not structured. She lectures and we get into discussion groups somewhat about the books that we read. Very little points in the class. It is very easy but sometimes horribly boring because it is the same routine every class. If you like to read and don't mind the occasional writing response, you should be fine.
Maybe it's due to the way the course is structured, but the class just felt very rushed. She attempted to make us learn 10 styles of writing in one semester, culminating with a 20 page research paper, plus a presentation. I knew it was a lot of work from the start, but it just all happened so quickly that I didn't really feel I learned much.
She is very helpful and is willing to work with the student. But she mainly just goes over Shakespeare scholarly journals. The lectures and presentations were a real snooze feast. But she puts recordings of the play on reserve. That is the biggest plus. It was easy just boring. I don't feel I really learned much.
Really cool teacher. She funny and her lectures are really cool if you listen. Takes a different perspective on Shakespeare. 1 presentation, 2 journal summaries, 1 10 page paper and a few quizzes. No final. Takes attendance everyday. Very helpful if you just ask. I had a lot of fun and would take her again!!
What a great class! Professor Cummings is really great and you learn a lot in her classes. I wouldn't recommend her for anyone who doesn't like working or dumb people. Dumb people wlll definitely not like her at all.
Nice prof but the class itself could be incredibly boring at times. There was less attention paid to the plays themselves and more attention paid to scholarly journals about the plays. So we basically spent the semester learning about other people's opinions rather than learning the actual material. Papers never got actual grades just check marks.
She is a verynice lady and helpful if you just ask. The lectures were pretty dry; she just reads from her notes and there is little class discussion. She seems to try to fit in more material than possible to cover in each class, but as long as you do the work the way she wants you'll get a good grade.
Extremely helpful. Must go to class. Her lectures were sometimes a bit long winded and boring but overall it was a great learning experience.
Oh where to begin. This course was just silly in so many ways. Do all the assignments. SHOW UP (she takes attendance 2x each class). The in class essay midterms are pretty confusing. Her lectures will make you learn to sleep with your eyes open. However, she is somewhat entertaining and it is a somewhat easy grade as long as you do the busy work.
If you do not get an A in this class, you've failed in life.
Great professor. Passionate about the material and cares about her students. Workload includes a midterm, a final, 3~4 easy quizzes, and summaries. Takes attendance. Show up and do the work and you'll get a good grade. I got an A with little effort.
The subject matter is easy. HOWEVER, it is very time consuming. Do not take this class with this professor if you have a lot of other things going on that don't allow for two essays a week!!
I never take time to write these but after I took her class i feel compelled. NEVER in my entire college career have I come across a professor as and amazing as she is. I'm mad it took me this long to find her or else Id take all her classes. Shes amazing and opens up your writing a lot. shes hilarious and is very willing to help you. excelent
Tracey is a fab professor, but she structures her class so its incredibly boring and filled with lots of busy work. However, she's a pretty easy grader and really cares about her students. So: I like Tracey as a person, the class is easy but really boring.
Pretty easy class, I ended up with an A. Shes a really nice teacher, but since the class is so long the lectures can get kind of boring.. but the books she assigned were really interesting. You have to go because she gives clicker points
She's funny and entertaining. Love her!!
The first day of class, she gives you so much information that you want to quit. However, don't let this attack you. Ignore the whole instruction, just do the assignments as you go. Assignments are easy if you don't listen to her. She tends to confuse people. Also, you DONT need all the books for his class. She will assign you one (buy this only).
She doesn't put up her ppt slides so get ready to take notes in class. Lots of reading but they're interesting and bearable. 2nd half of the sem she puts you into groupslots of group discussionsoccasional presentations. CLICKER Qs EVERYDAYTAKES ROLL. 2 midterms that consists of clicker qs from the unit!
Her lectures are very vague rambling and are meaningless. The only reason you should go to lecture is to get your clicker points and play on your phone or laptop in the back and youll be fine. I failed my first essay but still got an A so dont sweat the first one. Only read sections of the book youll write about, no point otherwise.
I took this class Pass No Pass and I wish I didn't! This is a literature course so there is a ton of assigned reading but I read NONE of it and got a B (pass grade) without trying. All that is required to get an EASY A in this course is to show up to each class (Iclicker questions), do the assigned discussionreflections each week (blackboard).
There were discussion posts every Monday & Friday but it wasn't too hard. She assigns 4 books & I didn't read them when we wrote the posts. I would skim through it & do okay on the assignments. Going to class is essential since there are always clicker questionsquizzes. She gives extra credit & the midtermfinal are open notes. She's adorable!
This class was pretty straight forward. There's a lot of reading but just stick to the reading schedule and complete the discussions and you should be fine. You don't want to miss a day because she almost always has clicker quizzes and you never know how many questions there will be per day, 3 or 23. Can make the difference between an A and a B.
NEED TO BUY BOOKS AND READ THEM. class is made up of quizzes, journals and discussion. One paper and a group presentation. The midterm for clt270 B was 6 questions. The questions are tough and usually not so specific to readings. Honestly i didn't learn a whole lot or try but if you do the readings and do the online final as a group youll get a B
The class was okay, a lot of busy work. Had to show up because of clicker Q. Online journals and discussion boards based on reading and there were a lot of readings. Midterm and Final which were short and easy. You get into groups during the second half for presentations. Overall would not take again but there are worse options.
She could talk for DAYS, so many readings that you'll never need to know, bad directions on group presentation and final essay. you will dread this class. BUT you don't need to do a lot of work, no hw outside of class, quizzes and test are like 5 questions. YOU WILL PASS ,if you don't pass. college aint for u She uses a signin sheet 4 attendence
.Her lectures are generally usually boring because the subject in general is boring but she definitely tries to make it fun. She is very vague about what to do. She gives a lot of extra credit though and she always ensures that the extra credit is put into the category with the most weight so it helps a lot. Quizzes and tests are on the readings.
Professor Cummings is incredible. She is very knowledgeable and gives good feedback on your papers. She tells you exactly what she wants from your papers, and if you follow her advice, you'll get a good grade. Expect to read A LOT and keep up with the syllabus and class schedule!
This class was one of my favorites this semester. Professor Cummings is super funny and her lectures along with the readings guide you to think about your own fiction in a new way. She gives great feedback for everything you turn in and wants her students to succeed.
You'll find out later that she really cares about her class. She may love to talk for hours but sometimes it can be pretty thought-provoking stuff. Pop quizzes were only prominent in the beginning. Midterms are easy if you listen in class.
Lots of reading and writing to do, assignments overlap, can be really overwhelming but overall worth it. Her feedback is great, handwriting is just a bit hard to read sometimes. Unless you are really passionate about both reading AND writing (and writing a lot), I don't recommend taking her. But to me the class experience was great and valuable.
She really wants you to learn and get something out of the readings. There are a lot of readings so be ready to put in the time to read. Her tests/quizzes have few questions. She gives a generous amount of extra credit. Overall, if you participate, she'll know you better and that helps in class.
Cummings is a wonderful professor. She very honest about class and tells you that if you don't read you won't pass. You do have a lot of reading assignments but she goes over all of them in class. She's hilarious and knows her stuff. Quizzes are hard but participation helps your grade. If you work hard your grade will reflect that
P. Cummings is truly amazing. She grades everything within a week of turning it in.!Great feedback, bad handwriting. Tough grader, but is willing to help. Wants students to succeed. Daily read. Resp. as attendance for credit or no credit, 1 presentation, 3 page paper, & 6 page paper. NO QUIZZES, NO TESTS. You can find the plays online.
The difficulty of this class is the same as her 581W that I took last semester - there is just too much work for a lower-div class: read 100 pgs/week, daily 1-pg typed writeups, 1 presentation, & 1 essay. She tries to do so many things all at once so the class can get overwhelming. Also you really don't need the exact book editions.
Cummings was a very intensive professor; with all the readings, daily write-ups, and presentations, it can be hard to keep up with. However, she grades leniently and has a great sense of humor. It was hard at times but overall, I enjoyed it.
I lovveeee Professor Cummings!! She is very enthusiastic during her lectures and is a pretty easy grader. There is a lot of reading and it can get pretty dry but just pay attention in class and you should be fine. The hardest part of this class was the final paper but she gave me great feedback during office hours. Attendance is taken everyday.
Cummings was nice and had a funny sense of humor, but her lectures were boring and all over the place. She barely ever lectured as she had us do group projects that made us teach the material. Would not take again because of the un-organization in the class.
The workload can be pretty intense and overwhelming, but her inspiring lectures and sense of humor make up for it. Weekly writeups, one presentation, a couple of informal group presentations, a midterm, and a final. Only thing is you can't use electronics in her class and try not to be late/absent or she'll mark you down for those things.
infuriating. 1. She blames electronics for every problem the world has, no joke. 2. not to judge her, but her lectures are very unorganized and she says um literally every other word, which can make it very hard to focus. 3. she will automatically fail you if u turn in a 5 paragraph essay (i could write a 5 paragraph essay on why i hate this class)
Long lectures everyday. 3 Midterms 10 questions each, and they are very loaded. Pulled directly from her lectures and student presentations, so be sure to take notes. She is very nice and knowledgeable, her class style is just different. You're not graded on much Participation, 1 essay, 1 presentation, 3 exams.
To say the least, I HATE THIS PROFESSOR. She is weird, inappropriate with male students, she's a subjective grader, she doesn't care at all for her student , and she's very sassy in emails when "answering" questions. DO NOT TAKE HER. YOU WILL HATE HER TOO.
grades way too hard to a entry level English class and is all over the place with lesson plans. Would sit there a do nothing a lot of time.
Lots of reading, but genuinely interesting books. Prof. Cummings is really funny, and unfiltered, so I really like her. She seems really passionate about literature, so that kept me engaged in class. a few main projects, they're really easy. I would recommend this course with prof. Cummings if you're looking for something not too time consuming.
I WAS AFRAID OF a SHAKESPEARE CLASS and she made it so much fun! her side comments are too funny. She does curse a lot but that's the way she is and i love it. She makes the readings so impactful. It really changed the way I thought about Shakespeare. You will need to print a physical copy of papers and turn it in digitally on canvas. LOVE HER
Prof Cummings is such an amazing professor. She is HILARIOUS and cusses a lot! She makes Shakespeare such a fun matter to read. She is really inspiring! Her class consists of weekly quote reflections which are not difficult at all, midterm and a final project (or research paper). She is great, take her!
honestly showing up to class will give you an A. I didn't read any of the books lol so its not necessary to read all the text but she is SO funny and her class is actually entertaining and not a drag. I looked forward to it because she always made my day better and is a genuine person. im taking any class with her again that's how much fun It was!
The entire class was half asleep during each lecture, she only talked AT students and made jokes and comments that were interesting to say the least. There were a few group projects a couple you had to present in front of the class. Attendance is based off a sign in sheet. Her quizzes were all open note even the final, max 15 questions.
