BORING! You spend the whole class learning how to write the perfect research paper. Don't take her.
total ****, boring and makes class a nightmare. entire grade is based on 1 paper... dont take
I really felt like i was climbing a mountain without a peak. Nothing I turned in was sufficient. If you're a good writer in your own mind...you're NOT in her's. I love writing and consider myself decent, and I hated it in her class
ughhh, stay away from this lady...her papers are a freaking nightmare. never hated writing soooo much in my life!
The class was interesting but the papers were hell. She constantly is telling you to revise it. It's her way or the high way.
revising revising!!!...papers can't be perfect for her..always had errors in your paper......
made the class go by fast even as a double period, but to do well in her class u have to spend a lot of time on your papers. However, she did help improved my writing though.
Interesting topic, I was very interested in it, but she kind of made it a little bland.
the class was interesting and hte books were good..she expects a lot from the papers, but you're not really sure what she wants. ive always gotten 4.0s in writing classes and i got a 3.0 in hers
Really interesting professor makes class extremely easy if you do assignments as they come. Don't put off research for the last minute, that's just poor planning. I got a 3.7 in this class, and a 2.7 in Exp 101, so clearly it isn't that difficult
Great teacher, very helpful, however a lot of work. tons of readings assigned...helpful to read or at least look at them, they take up a lot of class. tons of revisions. too much work for just a 3.0
not a hard class, but there are alot of papers due, and 3 books in this class. fair grader but gets tougher as course goes on
She is interesting, and I loved her class
makes class very interesting. She is very helpful and all the major essays have a 1st, 2nd, and then final draft so it is really easy to do well.
If you do your work, participate in class and go to her when you need help you'll do fine in her class. It actually is an interesting class, and is challenging but I wouldn't say hard. Good teacher! recommended.
Great class. Leaned a lot.
Amazing professor! Definitely recomment. A lot of reading (6 books) but she covers them all excellently and clearly. Very interesting woman too!
Class is centered around gender role and gender identity (didnt know that going into it). A lot of reading but dont really have to do it all. Write 4, 1-2 page essays, 2, 3-5 pagers and a final 5-7. You do 3 drafts for each of the longer papers where she types up her comments for you and tells you exactly how to get an A. Class participation a must
I absolutely loved this class. It focuses on gender roles, media, and popular culture.. so the class itself is really interesting. There are 4 "informal" short essays and 3 "formal" longer essays that she gives you tons of feedback on, so getting an A is really easy but you'll definitely learn something too. MUST TAKE!!
loved her... makes class interesting and really wants her students to learn
Undoubtedly my favorite teacher, and second favorite class to date. Don't be fooled by Traci's indifferent demeanor the first couples classes- she's only trying to get your respect. It's tough being an English prof, nevermind a Gender Studies prof, at Bentley. She teaches a great course and gives you trememndous feedback. Effort= 3.7/4.0 guaranteed
exp 101 was my favorite class so far at bentley. she makes this class so interesting, you want to go to class. and she helps you so much with your papers, especially the long ones which count for the most points. overall best teacher i have had.
Great teacher. Comes of ****y first few classes, but after that you can really tell she cares about her students. Always there for help, and actually improved my writing.
Professor Abbott is by far the best instructor I have had at Bentley. She engages every student and challenges them to think, and can spark interest in even the most obscure topics. If you show a willingness to work hard, she will do everything in her power to help you. I would take her again in a heartbeat.
Dr. Abbott is by far one of the best professors at Bentley. She will help you with anything and drastically improve your writing skills as long as you put in the time. I've taken her classes multiple times and will probably take more. There's definitely work, but it's nothing you can't handle and she is so helpful.
She's a little rough around the edges, but is very willing to work with you to help improve your grades and well as your writing. She uses all of the textbooks and her workload tends to grow as the semester goes on, but it's nothing monumental or difficult.
great teacher. if you are not willing to work hard she may not be for you, she rewards for effort and hard work. you will learn a lot from her and she will make you a better writer. I loved her and she is always willig to help out, for every essay you do she grades your rough draft and makes a ton of corrections follow them and u get an A. love her
She's very good at what she teaches. Let's you make as many drafts as you want, but only grades one with a lot of corrections, if you make them you do well. But apparently when you write a rough draft and you cite incorrectly she will write you up...on a DRAFT so be very careful she has a lot of time on her hands clearly...
Professor Abbott is a really nice professor is who willing to help out a ton. She does espect a lot from you which is a good thing. If you read her comments on your essays and do exactly what she says you will do fine. This class improved my writing and helped by GPA.
Professor Abbott is a definitely a must have for EXP 101. Her class topic is based on gender and sexual identity in pop culture. There are 5 informal essays that she grades very easyy on and 3 formal essays, but don't be scared. She gives you a sheet of requirements and if you follow it, you will be guaranteed an easy A. Take her! I got an easy 3.7
One of the best non business professors at Bentley.
Has very strong opinions about gender roles in the US. The entire class revolved around them. She is very helpful during office hours and learns all of her students names. During class she focuses on helping the "problem" students, so if you are not one of them do not expect alot of attention. She assigns three major papers.
There is a lot of information to take in and a lot of work that must be done in order to do well, however, if you do everything the correct way (as she explains) you will be rewarded with good grades. She is also very helpful during office appointments
There is a lot of work in this class and Professor Abbott does not sugar coat it, but if you keep up with the work and make the changes that she recommends on your paper, you can do well. If you go to her office hours, she helps you out a lot too.
Professor Abbott is a great teacher but gives a lot work. If you follow her instructions on everything and meet with her, you can definitely get a good grade in her class. It's just alot of effort but definitely an interesting class
Professor Abbott really wants you to get a good grade. Although the class can be tough as business students trying to write she really makes it easy to get a good grade. As long as you put in any effort in revising your one page into a real essay she's going to give you a decent grade. Take her.
Abbott is an amazing professor, she expects a lot from you but helps you all the way through. TAKE HERRR!!!!
Definitely wayyyyyyyy too difficult of a class for what it is. Professor Abbott assigned too much work for an expos class at a business school. She's a cool professor, but this amount of time I had to put into this class to receive a poor grade was ridiculous!
Class is all reading. Classes consist of discussion about the previous nights reading. Write 2 papers, have a midterm and final and then 2 short papers. Class is easy, just requires a lot of reading. Recommend meeting with her prior to all your papers, she is very helpful and nice
An amazing professor, if you post on your blog regularly and do the homework as she says you can get a 4.0. Yes, there is a lot of work but you can manage it and always go to her office hours, they are a great help!
Lots of reading and the whole class is discussion. She gets very in depth but you can tell she really enjoys the topic. Super interesting class that I would recommend to anyone.
I loved Dr. Abbott she is such a great teacher. She gives homework, a lot, but she grades fairly and she tries really hard to get you engaged in the class and if do you get a good grade. Bring her your essays before the final correction and she'll tell you exactly what you need to do to get an A. She also gives interesting reading materials.
She can come off as a little annoying in class but she's actually very approachable and seems like a completely different person when you talk to her individually. If you do everything she says and are polite and respectful and make it seem as though you are putting in effort, it should be an easy 4.o.
Love professor Abbott so much! she's so nice and does anything to help you get a 4.0, just make sure you take the time to go to her office hours and actually do your work. If she she's that you're trying she definitely will not fail you...i don think she fails anyone tbh.
Prof Abbott seems a little rough and even mean during class, but she really cares about your grade and about teaching you something important. You can especially see how much she cares when you see her one on one. Participation is graded and is required, and make sure to go to her outside of class for paper advice. Do that and you'll get a 4.0
Professor Abbott comes off as annoying at times in class, but overall really cares about each of her students. If you draft an essay early and go to her for extra help, she'll tell you exactly what you need to do to get an A.
Not the hardest grader, but assigns a ton of work. I struggled to do well her in class initially, but then I started to frequently meet with her outside of class and she was extremely helpful. Definitely meet with her outside of class at least once, she'll notice the effort and she'll help you out a lot. Also, grades participation and attendance.
Really good professor. She really cares about her students and is always willing to help on papers, of which there are quite few (three counting your presentation). The class requires A LOT of reading, and the exams really require that you read it and understand it, so definitely be willing to put the time in to understand it. Would take again.
Love professor Abbott, easily the best professor I have ever had at Bentley! She wants you to succeed and she really likes to get to know her students if you put yourself out there. Absolutely the best teacher and only good things to say about her! She not an easy grader but I totally learned so much and wished she taught every course at Bentley.
If you go into Professor Abbott's class with an open mind and the ability to set aside a few hours a week to assigned readings/films, you're going to have an amazing time. If you take this class expecting it to be low commitment, you'll have a rude awakening. One of my favorite classes so far, with an extremely knowledgeable instructor.
Professor Abbott really cares about what she is teaching (and her students) and is incredibly knowledgeable about both the topics she speaks about as well as external resources both on and off campus. Readings for every class, but reasonable - and you will learn a lot, if you simply have an open mind. Clear grading criteria; get a 4.0 if you do it.
Do not take Traci Abbott. I have never had this much work in an elective class, with such little payoff. I went to every extra credit event, I went to office hours, I did every homework assignment, participated in every class, and put my all into each paper and exam, to receive my lowest grade ever at Bentley. She does not care about her students.
Do not take this class whatever you do. It is sooooo much work and reading. Both the midterm and final are so hard, regardless of whether you read or not. For how much work this class is, it is not worth taking. You have two homework blogs every week and two literary essays.
This class with professor Abbott definitely requires a lot of time to read the books and watch the films, but there is not a lot of writing required in the class. Professor Abbott is also so knowledgeable and you will learn a history and perspective that is incredibly important and yet missing from our gen ed. She is also super nice and helpful.
Although she assigns lots of readings/films she sends you a list of them during summer/winter break to allow you to get ahead, so the work is not overwhelming. She is more than willing to help review papers (gives great feedback), and she provides lots of extra credit opportunities. Overall it's an easy A, and the class was super interesting!
I wouldn't take Traci Abbott. She was never clear with instructions and with her grading the class felt impossible. It's a very heavy workload and even though she offers to meet with students she isn't friendly at all and doesn't help much. Is a very negative persona and took the joy out of writing.
She is the best LIT professor on campus! Take her if you get a chance! She has great knowledge about the subject that has a lot of importance in our generation especially. She is caring and accessible. She is always there for her students. Although, there might be a bit of reading and assignments; however, you will learn a lot.
A lot of people at Bentley would benefit from the topics covered in her course. However, a business student should not be reading 1 BOOK EVERY WEEK for her course plus extra essays assigned per class. If you want to spend hours of your life reading and annotating to prepare for her tests/essays GO AHEAD. Just remember there are easier Lit classes!
By far my favorite professor at Bentley. Even though her classes are LIT and not strictly business, she will teach you the most valuable and important content that I have learned at this school. You'll have to work for your grade, but she gives more feedback and is more available outside of class than any other professor at Bentley.
This course was a lot of work for an elective and took up a lot of time. We were expected to read a book a week, write two blogposts (graded), and participate in each class. The midterm and final were impossible. You were expected to know every little detail in each book. Abbott sucked the little enjoyment I had left for reading.
As an accounting major, this was one of the hardest classes I took. Professor Abbott is caring and willing to work with you but expects too much. This class was more difficult than some accounting courses and the course content was very disturbing at times. Unless you are interested in this specific course, take an easier LIT or elective class.
At Bentley, a business school, commonly elective classes tend to assign less work because the students are usually not as engaged, and are focused on the classes that matter. This was not the case in Abbott's passing in literature.
She is an understanding person but the content in this class is so hard to grasp and she does not have the best format for paying attention. Instead of providing understanding and answers she just asks questions on the material but does not give any advice on what is correct.
Not sure why people are surprised that you have to read to do well in a LIT class. Exams are open note and you can use hers that she posts. The homework questions aren't really hard. I guess if you don't like the topic you won't like the class but then maybe take photography instead?
One of my most disliked profressor as. She will give you over 200 pages of readings to do in 2 days while your in the middle of finals weeks. Very selfish when it comes to her students time and her expectations are ridiculous. Made me hate reading. DONT TAKE
Even though the readings are ridiculous, she is an amazing person that is so passionate and knows a lot about her course. One of the best inspirational teachers at Bentley!!
Yes, you have to read a lot but it is a LIT class after all! Meeting with her is so helpful, especially when it comes to improving on your literary essays and exams. Be honest with her and she'll be honest with you. She challenges her students because she wants them to develop critical thinking skills and to be more engaged members of society.
I take Professor Abbott every semester because of how knowledgeable and passionate she is. The courses she teaches are so important and I think everyone should be open to taking them regardless of the work. There are a lot of readings, but she is incredibly easy to talk to if you're ever struggling or get overwhelmed. She is such an amazing person
The BEST professor at Bentley. The classes she teaches are interesting. Very caring, passionate, knowledgeable, crystal clear with everything. The reading is a lot but definitely allows some slack if you're too busy. Accessible outside of class and extremely helpful. Her expectations are moderate, but it helps if you tell her that you struggle.
Traci Abbott is very knowledgeable in her field and makes the class interesting. She's tough and assigns a lot of reading and homework. Participation and attendance are important and she wants engagement with her students. Not an easy elective, as she gives both papers and exams. However, she is very available outside of class and willing to help.
Most unfair professor at Bentley. She requires too much for an elective class and her slides are packed with information. She gives test based on information that is not important for the overall class. She wants you to come to her office hours, but won't say it is mandortary. Avoid her classes!
Perhaps the clear cut worst elective course available at Bentley. Professor Abbott is extremely harsh grader, which is quite frankly ridiculous for an explorative elective course. In this course I regularly spent more time on readings and papers for a history elective, than I did for any of my major courses which is beyond me.
This class was a lot of work. Journal entries on the readings were due before every class, so you can't skip the readings. Exams were difficult and asked for the most specific, unimportant details from the readings, which you couldn't memorize if you tried. Class engagement is a big part of your grade, so you have to participate often.
took her fresh yr for hnrs 101. Ended with an A- which is a good grade but had to fight tooth and nail to get it - class was filled with favoritism and politics. Avoid her unless you're truly passionate about subjects such as racism, transgender rights, etc. She's also incredibly harsh and brash in class and will call people out.
Traci Abbott is a great prof. Shes tough and blunt but if you participate, she will love you and is great to talk to. She is very smart and class can get political so only take this if you like womens rights! Lots of reading (it is an ems class sooo) but the texts are engaging. Exams and papers are hard but she wants you to get an A so she helps u!
Very difficult grader. If you don't like to read do not take this class. Tests were extremely difficult and gave little to no information about how it would be. Expected to know irrelevant information about every reading and movie and they will show up of the test.
ID 260: Lots of readings for homework, 4 page essay due every other week. One presentation all on mostly controversial topics. Very passionate but tries to force her students to be passionate. Exams are very difficult but possible to do well if you study. Do not take if you aren't interested in gender studies or LGBTQ related.
Talk in class, do the papers they're not hard if u read the material and j send an email if you need an extension. If ur easily offended by intellectual conversation about race, gender, and politics dont take her then. Just study the slides and you'll do great on the midterm I only looked over the slides for an hour and got a 100.
Great professor, would definitely take her class again
Her grading was extremely tough, and no matter how many times you met with her, the instructions weren't clear. I met with her several times to ensure I was doing the assignment correctly, but it still wasn't good enough for her. Her midterm and final are harsh. open-response questions in a short period of time,& limited notes. DON'T RECOMMEND
Professor Abbott is high on my DO NOT recommend list as this class was absolutely brutal... do not take at any cost.
Honestly one of my favorite professors I have taken at Bentley, she is very willing to work with you to help you understand the content and she is very involved and passionate about the material. She isn't afraid to be tough and loves it when students have dialogue with her. It's a lot of reading but that's what English classes are. 10/10 Class! :)
Not my cup of tea, very knowledgeable about the subject but was the worst experience of my life
