She loves to teach and has a passion for writing. Make sure you have a stapler to bring in class because she does not take essays that are not stapled.

I wish I could put into words her teaching style...It's like you're mesmerized by her knowledge and stories, as well as the animated style in which she tells them. Professor Gourdine is such a great motivational teacher, her class was awesome..i was a little intimidated about writing all these papers and such, but she makes you feel at ease, just keep up with the work. I HIGHLY recommend her. after 300 i just HAD to take 301 with her..i enjoyed her reading selection for that class as well.

Professor Gourdine is an awesome teacher! I used to hate English before I had her class, but she really makes you enjoy what english is all about. I now read on a daily basis because of her class. Everyone that wants a grade based on effort and true understanding, take her. If you just want to skate by, take another class!

Follow the syllabus throughout the entire semester. Lectures are well done. Always turn in work on time. Plan ahead of time to doing the writing assignments. Listen to any kind of tips and advice she gives to you on writing. Journal entries matter in class and short papers are too. Do everything assigned always.(common sense)

Tracy is wonderful! Her lectures are mostly always intersting and on target. She is very helpful if you don't understand something-ASK! She makes you work for your grade but getting an A isn't hard IF you do the work. I didn't like the dramatic lit quiz but I got through the poetry unit and I don't care for poetry at all. I absolutely recommend her

The best teacher in English department! It was my third class with her and I love the way she teach. I didn't like the poetry part that we had to do, but the rest was great.Tracy has very good personality. Very fair and easy on grading. Take her if you have a chance.

She wants all students to do well and sets high standards which can easily be reached as long as you come to class and keep up with the reading and work. A excellent teacher. I really learned to write good essays. It was a interesting class, which says a lot since I have no interest at all in writing. This would be a good class for reentry students. I would definitly take more classes if she taught them.

Okay guys I listened to the people on here for teacher help and everyone on here is right! She is amazing. I hate writing, and taking her class made me realize how fun and how good I really am with writing. WAC also is a GREAT program to help those like myself, who have extreme troubles with writing. Her topics she discuss in class are always good!

I hate English and I loved her! She doesn't care if you're a good writer, you just have to follow the structure. She's very cool, and kick back as long as your not disrespectful. I would highly recommend her!

She keeps class interesting and is good at what she does. We did a paragraph writing assignment, four paper, two tests and a final. I got mostly As with and exception of a B on one paper and a B on one test. Still waiting for my last paper and written exam back, but I'm pretty sure I did well. Great teacher!!

Great professor she really cares about you. Just show up to class everyday, read the materials and participate. If you need help on a paper, ask her. She loves the students that want to be there for an education.

She keeps it real and never sugar coats. Shes extremely cool and can relate to her students. Shes so deep, she talks in metaphors. She reminds me of Bob Marley, haha. She is an angel because she is so sweet, so easy, and so helpful. I took also ENGWR 51,and 102 with her. 3 essays only for her ENGWR 301. As long as you care for your essays, you will get the good rate. Note that English is my second language (I came here 5 years ago), and I got all A in her classes. I believe that you can do it, too.

Professor Gourdine is very good teacher! As long as show up to class and do the work you will pass. Throughout the semester we had interesting topics discussions. There are about four essays and a research paper.

Very friendly teacher! lectures are fun and interesting. She was always helpful. Every time I asked her to check my essay she did a great job. During the semester she let class go early about 5 times and canceled class 2-3 times. tests are super easy. Does a good job of preparing students for tests and quiz's and essays. No pop quizzes.

Big mistiake. Professor Gourdine is compeletely different in 301, she would grade our papers horribly. She would change our sentences, and really she wanted you to be a novel writer. Professor Gourdine is the best of the best professor among many professors. I'd like to recommend her to you if english is your second language. she'd understand the feeling of international students who realize that english is too foreign to them. Keep reading books and understanding the materials that she provides in the class, you'll get an A.

I took Professor Gourdine for English Writing 101 and 300, as a part of the Umoja Sakhu Community. This fall I am taking her again for English Writing 301. She is the most amazing professor. She is very informative and inspirational. If you follow the syllabus and stay on top of your assignments you will do great.

Professor Gourdine has expanded my knowledge in areas of literature. She seems passionate about English as it reflects through her teaching. She is straight to the point & has very interesting lectures. She makes you want to push harder.

Professor gourdine is awesome, I just had her last semester and I am so excited to have her again this semester. She is very passionate about english and writing, which makes for amazing class discussions and a ton of wisdom when it comes to writing. She can be a little hard at times but she is also sarcastic and funny. Her class is worth it.

Prof. Gourdine is a passionate novel and poetry reader. The class was easy, yet we did put in time and effort into it. She gaves us a interesting novel to read, followed by in class discussions that were very engaging. She made us write 2 essays, 3rd one is critical review of poetry reading event. I enjoyed that class even though I hate writing.

She will get you ready for ARC and beyond. Do yourself a favor and take her. I took her for all three of my required English classes and I will take her for an additional class.

Professor Gourdine is one of the best WR professors I have taken here at ARC! I had a hard time getting into her class (waitlisted), but I don't regret taking her for 301! I LOVED her WR class! She explains everything well & keeps the class engaged. Her essays are straight-forward! Try hard &ask for help, she's kind and helpful! WOULD take again!

She's pretty sarcastic, but I loved her. You have to do the work to pass the class and she does offer extra credit. Writing is not my strongest quality but I passed with an A. I would take her again!

Very funny, sarcastic, and blunt which keeps lectures interesting. 5 short reading responses with 3 essays, very doable. Come on, its an English class! Pay attention to the syllabus! Not always crystal clear about exactly what she wants, but you can always ask. Takes attendance everyday. I don't like English but she made it fun!

She is amazing and is willing to break writing down to ones' level of comprehension. I felt more confident after her class. I'm taking her again for ENGWR300. The previous class was ENGWR102 if I'm not mistaken.

Professor Gourdine is amazing! She thoroughly explains essay prompts, gives lots of sources to use and is a big help if you need it. I took her class ENGWR 300 in the summer for 4 weeks, but it was not hard at all. The class was manageable, and if you work hard in class there was like nothing to take home to do. I recommend this professor.

I love professor Gourdine. She takes her time to make sure you understand her lectures, down to earth, and she cares for us as her students. However, she doesn't take any crap and I love her for it. I must say Ms. Gourdine is the best teacher I've had thus far. ������

Shes super funny and is a writer so she can come up with creative examples whenever needed. Doesn't care about word count which makes essays less stressful. Always acknowledges questions. Essay topics based on a book you read throughout the semester. The pop quizzes from the book are extra credit. Fair grader and will definitely take again!!

This is a great class to take. It was my first english class in college. Ive always gotten a C or lower in highschool english but I got an A in this class. The only homework is the essays, we did about 4-5 so one essay every two weeks. Also towards the end of the semester there is a book that has to be read and thats what the essays are about.

Professor Gourdine is amazing. She cares a lot about her students and wants them to become great writers. Her assignments are clear. She gives great feedback. If you want to become a good writer take her class. She will prepare you for ENGWR 302. If you show up and do the work you will get a good grade.

Traci Gourdine is an awesome professor for students with a outside life. her grading are tough but extra credit makes up for everything. if you participate in class session passing is nothing more than a breeze. she makes class fun with her entertaining life stories. i will definitely finish English with this east coast women.

She is amazing! I was skeptical when she introduced the 2 books we'd read for the semester but it has been a great learning experience. Lots of writing but that's expected. Class participation is extremely important to have a fun semester so please don't be silent students! I have always enjoyed writing and she has only reinforced my love for it.

Professor Gourdine is my favorite English teacher! She is such a sweetheart and really cares for her students (she really strives to help her students get better in writing). I highhhhhllyyy recommend her class! Especially for Umoja students.

If you feel your not strong in English and intimidated do yourself a favor and take gourdine she actually cares and is reasonable and makes you a stronger writer there's not too many teachers like her.

Favorite teacher so far

I had professor Gourdine for spring 2019 class 300. She was such a great teacher and is straight up cool! She wants her students to do well so just really pay attention to her directions when it comes to assignments. Also she starts class on time everyday so don't be late. Take her, amazing teacher!

I absolutely loved this class!! She made it interesting to learn. She used writing to educate much more than learning the structure of writing, it was more about expressing yourself in your own words and how to convey your truth. She used fascinating texts to learn from. Id highly recommend her and I would take her again in a heartbeat!

Very easy class to pass but only if you keep up with the reading. She is a good professor and takes her time explaining the material. My only complain was that she would often be late to class and sometimes not show up at all, so check your email before going to class.

If you have the opportunity to take Prof. Gourdine consider yourself very lucky! Her classes were amazing! Ive taken her twice and loved the subjects she discusses. Shes unfiltered, honest, and has the biggest heart. Dont mess around in her class, show up, READ, highlight your book, and listen to her suggestions. Do this and its an easy A!

Professor Gourdine was so sweet! She gave good feedbacks on our essays too. We had to read one book for her 6 week summer class and 2/3 essays were based on that book. It was a easy class!

She is specific in what she asks, few assignments, and a very fair grader. She carefully goes through the writing process and makes it apparent how much she values the process over product. Also, I love her writing.

Shes a very nice professor and gives very few assignments. I took her course online and the entire class was lectures twice a week and weekly discussions on a book we were all reading together. There are 3 essays for the entire semester which isnt bad. A very easy A.

Amazing instructor! Very clear about how she wants essays and papers written (makes it easy as she provides the format her students to use). Two books (really good books) and weekly small papers about the chapter just read, 3-4 short papers, 2-3 essays. Super easy and gives good feedback. 100% would take again! (ENGWR 302).

Her class was super easy, weekly discussion posts, a few quizzes and 1 book to read. 4 essays in total during the semester and shes a really fair grader. Her expectations are clear. During the week the essays are due, she lets you drop in on zoom and go over the essays with her. 2 essays about the book, 1 narrative and 1 film analysis.

Gourdine is AMAZING- Book material is (about love).will keep your attention.. Suggestions: Highlight your book/make notes to ref. back to- sign up for WAC program for help w/writing & 50pts extra credit. The workload was not bad! Very Ez simple hw (wkly)/4short papers(1-2pg)/3Essays (3-4pgs)/1 Final essay on film(5-8pgrphs). HLY RECOMMEND FOR 302

Took 6 wk summer course. She is very lenient on grading and if you follow her rubric you will do fine. 2 essays on the book, and 1 film analysis essay all worth 100 pts. 8 discussions, 1 syllabus quiz, and 2 chapter quizzes. She is late on grading, but she is responsive to emails. Other than that, it's an easy class if you want to pass English.

Very simple! I took the 8 week course and it was my easiest class. The course was based on one book (I personally found it very interesting). Every week was a chapter you had to read and write a discussion post about on it. There's 2 chapter quizzes and 3 essays (1 was based on a film) which were all easy.

I had a great semester with Professor Gourdine. This was an online course and she made it very easy to navigate. Lots of writing but in smaller chunks which made it less overwhelming. I really enjoyed writing her Type 3's. I also liked reading the book for the semester so overall had a lot of fun with this class.

Class was conducted based on an American History book. 1 discussion per week based on a chapter in the book. Only 2 quizzes and 4 essays throughout the whole class. Responds to questions within the same day. Gave clear instructions and expectations for each easy. You must read the book to understand your essay prompts. Would take again.

Very good teacher! She takes a while to grade homework, but when she does she always leaves detailed comments. I love that.

Professor Gourdine's ENGWR300 class was a manageable and engaging experience. While the reading material could be challenging, her clear feedback and support during the writing process made it worthwhile. Using Unstuckstudy and other study tools was helpful for preparing essays.

Straightforward, we were only required to purchase one $20 book that we used all semester. The only participation required for the class was responding to a prompt every week based off the chapter assigned and some quizzes. The essay grading criteria was also very straight forward. She takes forever to grade work and her feedback is pretty generic.
